Analysis Of The Novel Ethan Frome
The setting of a novel is typically only the frame in which a novel takes place; it makes no
grandiose overtures to become a larger part of the novel than it is. However, the setting of Starkfield
in Ethan Frome is different in that the depiction of Starkfield is integral to one s understanding of
the underlying motives and feelings of the characters in the novel. The accumulated cold of many
Starkfield winters (Wharton 5) tangibly affects the personalities and actions of Ethan, Zeena, and
Mattie, mostly negatively. The character of Ethan Fromeis first introduced to us via an unnamed
narrator, who is an engineer temporarily assigned to Starkfield for work, and Harmon Gow, a
former stagecoach driver. Ethan Frome is the most striking figure in Starkfield, though he was
but the ruin of a man (1), and looks as if he was dead and in hell now (2). His life was a series of
misfortunes, starting with the death of his father, the downward spiral of his mother s mental
health, and his irrational decision to marry his cousin, Zenobia Pierce, and her subsequent spiral
into sickliness. From the outset, Ethan Frome doomed himself the second he left his technical
college and returned home to Starkfield, never to leave again. Everything about Starkfield seems to
mock him, especially the cemetery that inters Ethan s family, the headstones seemingly mocking
him with their existence: we never got away how should you? (21). His refusal to make any lasting
decisions in his life

Political Corruption Essay
Political Corruption Political corruption is one of the biggest problems in the United States
government, but not just here in America, in other parts of the world as well. This global issue
is making big headlines and it is all over the internet, yet people still don t fully believe that U.S.
politicians are corrupt. The people that are making all of the under the table deals have got the
American people blinded with false promises. The national debt is growing and we, the people, are
blaming the President, illegal immigration, and big companies importing goods but the people that
are to blame are representing us right now. Corruption is defined as moral perversion or the
perversion of integrity. (Dictionary.com) This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It turns out the man had serious medical conditions and no health insurance. He robbed a bank
to get free health care in prison. ( Corruption In America ) Lies are becoming an everyday part of
the business world. JP Morgan marketed a CDO as a good investment when they knew it was
total garbage. The SEC announced that JP Morgan has agreed to pay out 153 million dollars in
settle charges related to the sale of a controversial collateralized debt obligation back in 2007. The
people that helped pick out the underlying assets for the CDO also bet heavily that it would fail. (
Corruption In America )
A poll in Time magazine stated that 29% of people do not believe in the American Dream
anymore. Maybe that is because we no longer have faith in the govt. This could be a cause of the
lies they feed to us. $38.5 billion in budget cuts are largely illusory. The Washington Post reported,
The Congressional Budget Office is saying that about $800 million in cuts are being made to
domestic programs and foreign aid. ( Corrupted! ) The U.S. government is spending over $2 million
a minute. With the National Debt rising, the unemployment line growing, and cuts to things like
health care and public housing, where is all this money going? Law enforcement agencies are
considered key agents in peace building and post conflict reconstruction efforts. For that reason,
massive resources from the international community have

Compare the Presentation of War in the poems Dulce et Decorum est , by Wilfred Owen and
Icarus Allsorts , by Roger McGough.
Dulce et Decorum est was written by Wilfred Owen and Icarus Allsorts was written by Roger
McGough. Dulce was written during WW1. Wilfred Owen wrote this poem while he was in a
military hospital. In the poem Owen reveals the chilling truth about what WW1 was really like.
Icarus was written in the tension of the Cold War. In the poem Roger McGough turns a very
serious (fake) event into a joke. Dulce was written in 1917 and published in 1920. It was written
to show that Jessie Pope s poem Who s for the Game was a whole pot of lies. Icarus Allsorts was
written in 1964. It was written to get residents of planet Earth ... Show more content on

The tone/mood in Dulce is sad and negative. In all my helpless dreams, before my helpless sight
he plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning. In this quotation Owen is referring to a dream
he has had. Also he is describing what is happening in the dream a man is drowning from gas.
He is also having this dream because the things he has seen in war are things that will stick in
his head forever. This is sad and negative. In 2012 we have computers, radios, T.V.s etc. and can
find out what the conditions were like in any war but back in 1917 when WW1 was going on the
only way for a family member to know what their son/dad/nephew/grandson was seeing was
through a poem and reading poems like Dulce would make them feel worried and sad.
Another difference is the way both poems are written. Icarus is written like a news report. Using
a lack of punctuation does this. This stanza is an example of the lack of punctuation used in the
poem. From every corner of the earth bombs began to fly there were even missile jams no traffic
lights in the sky in the time it takes to blow your nose the people fell, the mushrooms rose. This
lack of use of punctuation makes you read the poem fast this relates to how quick a nuclear bomb
can drop and destroy. Also the lack of punctuation communicates the idea that all the events from
the poem are occurring simultaneously as the bombs explode. Dulce is written like a diary as it is
written in the first person. I saw him drowning Also Dulce is

Midterm Ecology Environmental Problems
1. (a) How might one best define ecology today? (b) Please define the term environmental problem
? (c) Briefly describe the relationship between the science of ecology and our understanding of
environmental problems?
a)Ecology today can be defined as the study of the interrelationships between living things and their
environment . It is important to understand that when we say that ecology includes the environment
, we are talking about everything that is external to an organism, all the biotic and abiotic.
Nowadays it also attempts to understand and explain the how and why of the origins and
mechanisms of interactions.
b)Environmental Problems could be defined as the problems of humans and their relationships with
their environment.
c)Ecology is the tool used to better understand the causes, effects, and potential mitigation of
environmental problems.
2. (a) Define cybernetic; (b) define homeostasis, (c) define homeorhesis; (d) discuss the
relationships between cybernetic systems and homeostasis/homeorhesis; (e) describe the
significance of the cybernetic nature of ecological systems; (f) discuss the relationships between
disturbance level and the establishment of reinforcing vs balancing feedback loops.
a)Cybernetic is the ability of a system to regulate itself through feedback loops. Ecological systems

Organizational Culture And Its Impact On Business Performance
Organisational culture refers to a structure of shared perceptions, ideologies and beliefs that present
the suitable and unsuitable behaviours to the organisation s employees. .These principles have a
huge effect on employee attitudes and overall organisational performance. Corporate culture could
become one of the organisation s strongest assets or its biggest liability, based on strategies utilised
by managers to share customs and values with employees. . The culture, traditions and shared
values within an organisation could lead to in enhanced corporate performance. Researchers have
discovered that a relationship between corporate culture and company performance, regarding
indicators that includes revenues, sales volume, market share and stock prices. This was reflected
in the 2007 survey conducted by Bain and Company exhibited results that identified business

have a great influence on several of its managerial decisions. These include planning, organising,
leading and controlling. Strong work place cultures serve as an asset to the organisation, providing

Police Informants
To snitch or not to snitch, that is the question. For decades law enforcement agencies across the
world have used informants to help put criminals behind bars. Unfortunately, the use of informants
has had little effect on lowering crime rates in areas where crime runs rampant. In the article by
Alexandra Natapoff, titled, Bait and Snitch: The High Cost of Snitching for Law Enforcement, she
discusses how informants do more harm than good at helping the war on crime. After doing some
research on the topic, I would have to agree with Natapoff s belief because the use of informants has
handicapped law enforcement agencies. Also, the informants themselves, are dangerous and the use
of them has negatively affected communities.
The use of informants in law enforcement has caused problems in law enforcement agencies. Police
have come to overly rely on informants to help capture criminals, and doing this has caused them to
use less more effective tactics. For instance, going undercover or doing sting operations. Some law
enforcement agencies seem to favor some informants over others, and that has caused informants to
be suspicious when working with them. In some cases, officers have even befriended their
informants and have worked together to commit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the criminals to go free in exchange for information has given them no reason to want to become
law abiding citizens. They continue to commit crimes, and some have gone on to do even more
severe ones; in some cases, this has allowed them to become high ranking members of criminal

Introduction Of Internet Based Procurement Essay
The term e procurement gained popularity around the year 2000. Emergence of the two competitors
Ariba and Commerce One, companies that specialized in the support of electronic procurement for
MRO products, changed the way indirect MRO spend used to be looked upon. Introduction of
internet based procurement applications prompted a change from a centrally organized procurement
(central buying) department to desktop procurement environment, where the employee in need of a
product would initiate the purchase transaction electronically. With these two trends, decentralized
purchasing and multi vendor catalogues , the conduit toward electronic support of the MRO buying
process was paved. Thus, over the period, spend analysts have started observing carefully, to
increase spend under management and implement better control over tail spend in order to reduce
the amount of fulfilling formalities and time consumed in procuring these products.
Understanding E Procurement in the MRO space
With the advent of Internet technology in the area of MRO, the procurement of indirect material
such as office supplies and services also became feasible for electronic support. Indirect
procurement is based on ad hoc activities which are difficult to put into an electronically supported
workflow. Since the products needed in this area are less frequently bought and usually of low
value, companies shy away from maintaining material master data for indirect products. The study

A Summary Of The Short Story Of Theodore Ahmedi sNew...
Numerous people have tried to cross a border, but Farah Ahmedi was a girl who was desperate to
escape her war torn country of Afghanistan by crossing the border into Pakistan, described in the
short story The Other Side of The Sky, and an interview done by Dorris Booth. Annie Johnson was
a fierce woman who wanted to support her family by starting an intricate business that cooked
meals for factoryworkers, as described in a short story, New Directions. Theodore Boone, from the
book Theodore Boone: The Activist, was a youthful thirteen year old boy who wanted to undertake
a monumental mission: preventing a bypassfrom being built through homes and farms, including his
friend s, which was in the danger zone. However, all three wanted to help, whether it was
themselves or others.
Farah Ahmedi was a girl who wanted to cross the border into Pakistan from Afghanistan to start a
new, happier, more peaceful life after losing all of her family except her mother to war. In The
Other Side of The Sky, the author confirms Farah and her mother s goal: Their only hope was to
escape to Pakistan (para. 3). This quote explains that Farah did not want to leave the country out
of her own choice, but it was a necessary decision. However, the country was war torn, so she and
her mom were forced to leave. Their journey to Pakistan was difficult and treacherous because it
required crossing a mountainous border. Furthermore, the journey was even more challenging
because of Farah s prosthetic

Prohibition and the Effect on America
From the beginning of the 20th century multiple political organizations and the federal government
have fought to control alcoholism in America. I chose to do prohibition because the fact that the
action taken by the federal government in order to form a better society has led to an explosion of
criminal offences in the past as well as today. The effects of prohibition consistently offer a hand in
the shaping of American culture. Full fledged black markets and organized crimegroups both offset
the supposed benefits of prohibition. Today, teenagers often turn to the underage consumption of
alcohol to make them seem cool, or as a form of rebellion against parental and governmental
authorities. The temperance movementacted as a predecessor to the prohibition of alcohol in the
1920 s. The temperance movement relied heavily on the efforts put forth by the Women s Christian
Temperance Union (WCTU) and the Anti Saloon League. The WCTU lead thousands of women
united against alcohol to make great pushes against alcoholism; they introduced an anti alcohol
education into schools, and led protests for laws regulating and banning alcohol. The Anti Saloon
League used the saloon must go as the war cry of their moral crusade against the production, sale,
and consumption of alcoholic beverages. Both groups blamed alcohol for issues in society, issues in
the home, and the wretched living conditions found in the immigrant slums. Together these two
groups pushed America into

Realism In Life In The Iron Mills
Life in the Iron Mills is a novella that is hard to classify as a specific genre. The genre that fits
the most into this novella is realism, because of the separation of classes, the hard work that a
person has to put into their every day life to try and make a difference, and the way society
influences the actions of people and their relationships. However, no matter what genre is
specifically chosen, there will be other genres present that contradict the genre of choice. While the
novella shows romanticism, naturalism, and realism, this essay is specifically centered around
realism. The ultimate theme in Rebecca Davis Life in the Iron Millsis the separation of classes and
gender. It is the separation of classes when the people in the... Show more content on

She continues on to describe that the mill is divided into by shifts, a group of workers come in
for a while and work, and then another group comes in and relieves that group. The point of this
quote is to demonstrate that many people are unaware of what really goes on inside the mill,
even though they live in a manufacturing town. Davis goes into detail about what the mill is like.
Fire in every horrible form: pits of flame waving in the wind: liquid metal flames writhing in
tortuous streams through the sand; wide caldrons filled with boiling fire, over which bent ghastly
wretches stirring the strange brewing; and through all, crowds of half clad man, looking like
revengeful ghosts in the red light, hurried, throwing masses of glittering fire. It was like a street in
Hell. (Davis 1225) It is important to remember that the novella shows realism, but it also has a case
of romanticism that backs up the realism efforts. The romanticism is displayed through her
descriptive view of the Mill, where most that live in the manufacturing town do not realize how
strenuous and horrid the working conditions are like.
Hugh and Deborah have an interesting relationship, because of their interesting relationship it
exemplifies realism perfectly. Their relationship could be seen as a one sided deal, because of the
way Deb feels for Hugh, she is willing to do whatever she can to make him happy, even if that
means bringing him

Just War Theory Of The Iraq War
Looking at the Iraq War and Applying it to the Ideas and Principles of the Just War Theory and
Sun Tzu s The Art of War
The war in Iraq, which started in March 2003 and lasted 8 years and 9 months, is the third longest
war in American history. The invasion and the war itself faced tremendous criticism from in and
outside the United States in which many called the venture a total disaster. The Brown University
Institute for International studies estimates that the war caused around 189,000 civilian causalities
and costed the United States more $2 trillion dollar. No wonder many individuals believed the war
has done more bad than good and question whether the war was just at all. The Iraq Warwas an

There are many different things that go into what makes a more just and what makes a war
unjust. Sun Tzu says that a war ought to be waged if it is an intelligent one and a just one. For
the purposes of time, the focus will be on three of Sun Tzu s most important principles; 1. Know
your enemy and yourself, then you will win a 100 battles, 2. Winning a 100 battles is not the
pinnacle of success, avoiding war altogether, and 3. No long war is successful. In Sun Tzu s first
principle, he is saying that one must know the reasons why they are fighting as well as the
enemy and their motives, if one can do that then the war will be a successful one. Now let s look
at this and apply it to the Iraq war. For one, as stated earlier in this document, the United States
had no reasonable grounds as too the reason for the invasion of iraq. It was all based off of fears
that there were weapons of mass destruction which later turned out to never had existed in the first
place. Likewise, who really was the enemy in the Iraq war? Was it Saddam Hussain, terrorist or
innocent people. Looking at just numbers it would appear that the United States military did not
clearly understand the enemy at hand which is why war is considered a failure to

Reflective Essay On Civil Rights
During our time in class, we discussed several themes pertaining to the rights and freedoms of the
LGBTQ community, and spoke at length about some of the landmark cases that helped to give
the community the liberties that they enjoy today. In order to better understand the struggle that
the community had to endure in order to achieve these rights, we will review several different
cases and tie them to things we learned in class, analyzing the roles that they played in achieving
progress in various fields that were once dangers for members of this group. By understanding
some of the landmark legal actions that were made in the quest for equal rights, perhaps then we
can more fully understand the extent of the obstacles that they have overcome. And not all of these
cases go in their favor, either, showing that even at the highest echelons of the American legal
system, there have been and still continue to be significant prejudices which must be faced day in
and day out. The most important step forward in the timeline of LGBTQ rights was the acceptance
that homosexual acts were, in fact, not crimes, and that homosexuals could live in the open
without fear of repercussion from the law. In class, we discussed the case of Bowers v. Hardwick,
which upheld the constitutionality of sodomy laws and effectively criminalized homosexual
relations until the 2003 case of Lawrence v. Texas, which reversed the decision. Just two years after
the decision in Lawrence v Texas came down,

Enron And The Collapse Of Enron
INTRODUCTION
Enron, one of the most influential and profitable companies in utility, paper, and communications
for numerous years, came crashing down and filed for bankruptcy in fall 2001 (Bottiglieri, Revile,
and Grunewald 1). Houston National Gas and InterNorth fused together and created Enron in 1985.
The company faced initial problems of debt and loss of exclusive rights to pipelines (Thomas 1).
This accounting method allowed Enron to log entire profits from the life of a contract in the year
the company made the deal (Stewart 116).
Three individuals and one firm had major impacts in the collapse of Enron, which were Kenneth
Lay, Jeffrey Skilling, Andrew Fastow, and Arthur Andersen Accounting Firm. Kenneth Lay was
the Chief Executive Officer when the company began in 1985. (Cunningham and Harris 32).
Jeffrey Skilling was another key individual in the story of Enron and made his first major
appearance in 1990. He held many titles at Enron, including president and Chief Financial Officer,
and Chief Executive Officer (Chandra 100). The third individual is Andrew Fastow, who also
joined Enron in 1990. Fastow s major contribution to Enron was the use of special purpose entities.
SPEs allowed the company to keep losses and debts off Enron s financial statements and dump them
in other hidden areas (Chandra 101). The final group was Arthur Andersen. Arthur Andersen s
biggest impact on Enron was the allowance of mark to market accounting, which allowed Enron to

Abstract
Part of being a good, quality educator is to learn the learning styles of the students and adapt to
those forms of learning. Adult learning is growing, more and more are going to college at later
stages in life. Out of the 35 people, there will be many different learning styles. Malcom Knowles is
known for defining characteristics of adult learning.

To learn is obviously a mental process, but how a person learns needs to be determined. Some
people have a more hands on approach to learning, while others are visual learners. An example
would be someone who had dyslexia and sees things backwards; they need different instructions
to take in the information. Also, people act differently. An example would be myself, I have
ADHD. I do not like to sit for long periods of time because I just can t keep my concentration.
Keeping the attention of such an age span could pose problems. Keeping lectures short, mixing
things up, taking a break could all be ways to make sure everyone s able to pay attention and get
the most out of the teachings.
Sociocultural
The world that we live in shapes the people we are, how we do things, and how we live. Cultures
dictate a lot of learning, as does family status. People that have families live busy lives. A
traditional family today now has two working parents, along with kids. If they are taking classes
in addition to their hectic schedule they don t have time to waste, are focused and determined.
Whereas, a twenty year old with no wife and no children is more likely the one to put less effort
into the homework, more likely to miss class, and more likely to do the minimal amount of work to
get by. Teaching methods must encourage all ages, cultures, and races.
Cognitive
Cognitive learning is how the brain processes information. All ages

Assignment Title:
Operations Management Defined and in Context
Operations Management has evolved over many years and is now considered a critical function
in any business, as supported by J.R Meredith, operations is critical to success in today s
economy ( P35, Meredith 1992). Businesses need to have faster production, cheaper prices, better
quality products and fast delivery to be competitive. How an operations manager manages the
production of goods or services effects how competitive the offering and how successful the
business will then go on to be. In this assignment I am going to use Nestle and Heathrow airport as

An operations manager that has no strategy or tactics to be the most effective and efficient they
can be, will just fail in any line of business today. There has to be strategy and tactics applied to
the 5 basic Performance objectives (Slack et al, 2010 p40) as examples here we can compare
between Nestle and Heathrow. Both highly successful businesses in their industries and truly lead
the way in operations control and management. Both companies are likely to want to achieve
similar goals of customer satisfaction and to remain competitive in their arena, let s look at the
kind of things that they do to achieve their performance objectives based around Slacks ideas.
First of all let s look at the process for both businesses on a simple scale as I see it.
So what is involved at each stage and how does the operations manager ensure that the objectives of
the business are being met.
Quality Wanting to get things right for the customer, no errors.
Heathrow need to ensure that passengers have a smooth run from arrival to departure but also then
that the airplanes are able to run on time and limit delays. Buses run from the car parks regularly to

The Issues Of Immigration And The Efforts Schools
The issues of immigration and the efforts schools are supposed to provide for the country are
looked upon differently in respect to who you are to ask. At the federal level, the government
states that every child is allowed to obtain an education. On the other hand, the local state
government feels that they are able to vote on issues of denying education for all immigrant
children. Throughout this essay, I will look at several schools and districts in the San Diego county
area that are dealing with the issues of education for a diverse population, the demographics of the
school and neighboring cities they are located and the summarization of whether the school are
doing their part to make the transition for newcomer children easier to... Show more content on

The city of Escondido has a history of controversy with policies that deal with the immigration
debate. In 1994, the state of California proposed a proposition that would deny social services
(education, health/welfare benefits) to illegal residents and would require state/local agencies to
report persons suspected of being illegal to the US Attorney General and the Immigration and
Naturalization Service (Proposition 187: Will it Save or Sink California?). Escondido Unified
School District (EUSD) was in a favor of Prop 187 that passed but ultimately halted at the Supreme
Court for being unconstitutional based on the status undocumented students are required under
state law to attend school until they reach a legally mandated age (1982 case Plyler vs. Doe, Rights
of Immigrants Stressed to Schools). Public schools may not deny admission to a student during
initial enrollment or at any other time on the basis of undocumented status; treat a student
differently to determine residency; Engage in any practices to chill the right of access to school;
require students or parents to disclose or document their immigration status (Rights of Immigrants
Stressed to Schools). So why would a school district want to deny a newcomer child from attending
class? Why would a school jump into the federal issues and debates of immigration when the school
district is state funded and not federally funded? Contact was not returned to interview anyone at

Zumwalt Research Paper
The New Stealthy Navy s Warship Needs Reflectors To Spot It By Other Ships America s new
USS Zumwalt is so furtive that it will go to the sea with reflectors so other ships can see them.
The concept of the new navy destroyer is just like a smaller vessel on radar. Washington Post
reports that Lawrence Pye, a lobsterman said that the 610 foot ship appeared to be like a 40 to
50 foot fishing boat on his radar. It s pretty mammoth while it s that close to you, said Pye. The
Navy figured out that it is good for warfare but it is less ideal when the destroyer is operating in
extreme weather and routing busy shipping channels. They also examined the use of onboard
reflectors to enhance its radar visibility. On the other hand, the Zumwalt destroyer

Huckleberry Finn Rising Action Essay
The novel Huckleberry Finn occurred generally in Missouri. Huck and Jim traveled down the
Mississippi River, therefore they would then fortuitously enter states along the River. These states
could include but were not limited to Illinois and Arkansas. The time in which the novel was
foreshadowing was probably the early 1800 s.
The five essential parts of a plot are the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and
resolution. In this story the exposition consisted of the narrator telling us a little info about his
previous book and how Huck had accumulated 6,000 dollars. Also it told us about how the Widow
Douglas was trying to civilize Huckleberry. As well, it enlightened us on the fact that Tom Sawyer
had a gang and that Huckleberry was a part of it. This gang contained Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry
Finn, Ben Rodgers, Jo Harper, and 2 or 3 other boys. The rising action in this story had many
interesting and exhilarative events take place. First, Pap, Huck s father, had heard that Huck had
inherited 6,000 dollars, and he decided that since he was his father he was entitled to that money.
So when he arrived there, the Judge said that he could not obtain the substantial amount of money.
With this abrasive information, Pap decided that he would abduct Huck, and hide him in a cabin
from the rest of the town. The second event is when Huck faked his death and ... Show more content

The Power Broker By Robert Moses Summary
The Power Broker: Robert Moses and the Fall of New York
by Robert Caro
Academic Review
Robert Caro s grandiose 1,296 page book, The Power Broker: Robert Moses and the Fall of New
York, reveals the story of the complex and controversial persona of America s greatest builder
Robert Moses. The magnificently well written piece of work received Pulitzer prize as well as
Francis Parkman prize for best book of the year. Caro, born in 1935 in New York City
, showed
interest and passion for writing early in life. Known for his extensive research and detailed long
pieces, he was determined to write Robert Moses biography in spite of Moses initial rejection
and lack of cooperation. Upon realizing the book was unavoidable, Moses agreed to comply and
be interviewed several times by Caro. Moses, the ultimate builder, whose career lasted a long
time, eventually gained enough power to build himself an empire in which he lived like an
emperor and managed to get his every wish granted. He successfully manipulated government
officials and almost any individual he came in contact with was transformed into a pawn used to
assist him in building and turning his dreams into a reality. While Caro s masterpiece provides a
substantial amount of background information on his leading character, its main focus is less
about his life story and more about power and what he was able to do with it once he had a taste of
it.
Robert Moses disguised himself as a hard working, compassionate and

Comparing Levitt And Dubner s Freakonomics
Freakonomics has a tone that is very casual and humorous, almost sarcastic in a way. Levitt and
Dubner make the book interesting by making wild comparisons. Then, they justify these
comparisons with hard evidence and it is quite amazing. Levitt and Dubner s casual attitude is
seen in almost every part of the book. For example, take this quote: The problem with crack
dealing is the same as in every other glamour profession: a lot of people are competing for a very
few prizes (Levitt and Dubner, pg. 103). This strange way of regarding to crack dealing as a
glamour profession is a perfect portrayal of how these authors are very laidback and casual about
what they have to say. They are not sugarcoating anything, nor are they being firm and

The Life and Music of Gustav Holst Essay
The Life and Music of Gustav Holst
Gustav Holst, born in Cheltenham in September 1847, is still today considered to be one of the
greatest music composers of all time. He was not very fond of music when he was younger, but he
enjoyed the piano. He was sent to Cheltenham Grammar School and forced to take long music
lessons, even though he had neuritis in his hands.
His first job was an organist and Choirmaster at the Choral Society, Bourbon on the Water.
Impressed at his good ear for music, his father borrowed some money to send him to the Royal
College of Music, which he had previously failed to enter.
As he got older, the neuritis in his hands got worse, and it was almost impossible for him to play
the piano, so he took up the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After many refusals of his works, Holst became rather unwell, so took him to Algeria for a holiday.
The warm climate and bright colours of Algeria inspired Holst, so he decided to start working on a
new piece called Beni Mora, but it was not a great success.
In 1912, his performance of The Cloud Messenger was a hit, so he went to Spain for a holiday to
celebrate. While there, he met Clifford Bax, who encouraged him to write a movement called The
Planets. It was very successful.
In 1923, Holst was conducting a rehearsal at University College, when he slipped and fell off the
platform onto his head. The damage was deadly, and it was years before he recovered from the
effects.
Later on, after a trip to America, Holst received great congratulations for his performance of the
Planets, and an anonymous rich man gave him several hundred pounds to spend on his music. But,
Holst was beginning to have bad effects of the concussion he was in earlier, and he couldn t bear to
have anything touch the back of his head. He spent many nights in agony, so his doctor suggested
that he moved away from London.
So that is exactly what he did. He bought a small house in Thaxtead and lived there for nearly a
year, but much of his music was failing.
In 1926, Holst was working in Dorset. He wrote a piece called Egdon Health dedicated to Thomas
Hardy, and he knew it was the best thing he had

Internal Security Threat Regarding Employees
Part (i) Threat 1 a)Title: Internal Threats Employee threats b)Description of security threatAn
internal threat concerning employees is a wide ranging issue as it can encompass various
situations. The primary issue stems from an authorized, nontechnical user or a system that can
utilize the system without creating a red flag. (Peltier, 187). c)Justification for inclusion with
emphasis on risk and potential damageThe internal threat is a primary issue as employees,
statically, is the cause of security issues. The information available to the employees can commit
various types of criminal acts from fraud, to insider trading, to breaking international laws. There
can also be issues with disgruntled employees, potentially if the employee is only contracted or
temporary. It is a common practice in large companies, especially international companies, to
outsource and contract work. This can create issues with personnel if a contract is ended in an
unexpected way. There is also an inherent temptation with the information available, especially
considering various white collar crimes. d)Organizational responseAn organizational response
would be to create policies to deter internal attacks, which can be done in multiple ways. The first
method would require creating a training program to educate employees and discourage such
behavior. The second would be to create procedures outlining their different levels of access that
employees can have depending on their job

Contractual Duty of Good Faith
Introduction Australia has not yet committed itself to a definitive principle of good faith in
contract law. Unlike the legal systems in Europe and the United States, Australia does not demand
an explicit legal prerequisite of good faith to form a contract.[1] Decisions in different jurisdictions
have however considered the validity of the values identified in the doctrine of good faith within
contract law, such as loyalty, honesty and cooperation. Good faith is valuable because it provides
confidence in the formation of contracts between two parties. However there are conflicting views
and criticisms of the doctrine of good faith. The pragmatic theory of cooperation [2] underlines the
effectiveness of the common law system and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The duty identified by Cockburn CJ is a negative one: not to prevent the existence or
continuance of that which is necessary to enable the contract to be fulfilled. However, the
contractual duty of co operation may include a positive element. Where performance of a
contract is conditional on some contingency that is (to a greater of lesser extent) within the
control of a party, that party must do what is reasonably necessary to enable the condition to be
fulfilled, so that the usual remedies for breach of contract including damages, specific
performance and termination may become available upon breach. See Perri v Coolangatta
Investments Pty Limited (1982) 149 CLR 537 (as to damages); Masters v Cameron (1954) 91
CLR 353 (as to specific performance); and Kheng v Secola [2001] WASCA 3 (as to
termination). Is there a contractual duty of good faith? At least in New South Wales, the question
must be answered yes . It has been settled by other decisions such as Hughes Bros Pty Ltd v
Trustees of the Roman Catholic Church for the Archdiocese of Sydney (1993) 31 NSWLR 91, in
which Mason P said at 93 that, despite his

Proposal On Foster Care
Providing a child with an outstanding support system is a vital key in creating an environment
in which he or she can learn how to grow as a child, and as a human being. Here at American
Airlines we strive to provide children with the absolute highest of quality in foster care. We are
pleased to create a proposal that, we believe, will help the Dallas foster caresystem improve on
some of their current issues. The proposal aims to not only construct and provide local events to
raise awareness about these issues, but to also host fundraisers geared towards improving the living
conditions of foster children. One of these issues is the overcrowding of current foster homes in the
Dallas metroplex area.
l
Figure 1 shows foster home capacity needs by county: red meaning an under supply of foster
homes, and blue meaning an oversupply of foster homes. From figure 1, we can see that Dallas
County is facing a deficit (undersupplied) of foster homes available to foster children. We can also
see from Figure 1 that the surrounding areas of Dallas, such as: Denton county, Collin county,
Kaufman county, and Rockwall county all have an oversupply of foster homes. This means that
children from Dallas county have no other choice but to move to foster homes outside of Dallas
county. This results in moving away from friends and family, which can be traumatizing to a child.
We feel that this is one of the primary problems we aim to fix in the Dallas foster care system.

Literary Analysis Of Revelation By Flannery OConnor
Revelation
Among many diseases, judgment is an epidemic virus within the human mind; more dangerously
with the lack of discernment can create a toxic atmosphere and such intoxication is highlighted
within the short story, Revelation, by Flannery O Connor. The story is set in the south, and
revolves around an irrational yet religious character, name Mrs. Turpin, who overlooks her own
flaws to cast judgments on others. The author uses language, irony, and archetypes within the story
to present that judgement is a form of unconscious self deception that causes hypocritical behavior
and ultimately self agitation. The author demonstrates this by having the characters cast judgment
upon each other, which makes the act of passing judgment on to others an infectious disease fed by
society.
The usage of informal language in the beginning of the story, produces transparent characters by
exposing their flaws through their speech. Opening with the reckless announcement addressed
by Mrs.Turpin, I wish I could reduce (3). in front of strangers had marked her hasty character.
This early exposure of her flaw notes the tragedy of her character for being quick to speak, quick
to conclude and quick to judge. As Mrs.Turpin begins to build judgment upon others from Girl
Scout Shoes to bedroom slippers as she expects (5) Mrs.Turpin becomes a false believer,
drowning within her own deceptive conclusion by gripping onto her theory of goodness being
carried by people s shoes. Ultimately,

Altitude sickness, or Acute Mountain Sickness Essay
To begin I would like to talk about Altitude sickness, or Acute Mountain Sickness. I will define
altitude sickness, talk about the symptoms, how to prevent altitude sickness, and how to treat it. I
will then talk about what untreated altitude sickness can lead to. Altitude sickness is an illness
you can get from ascending too high above sea level too quickly without acclimatizing to the
decrease in oxygen levels. Altitude sickness, also called acute mountain sickness, is caused by
exposure to low partial pressure of oxygen at high altitude. At high altitude atmospheric pressure
is lower than at sea level. Because of the lower pressure the air expands as it rises which causes it
to cool, thus high altitude air is cold. Normally the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Altitude sickness can also be mistaken for other illnesses like the flu so it is very important to
descend as quickly as possible if you or someone else is experiencing any of the symptoms of
altitude sickness. The standard treatment for altitude sickness is to descend to lower altitude as
quickly as possible, oxygen should also be given if possible. Symptoms tend to improve with
descent but more severe symptoms may continue for several days. Early diagnosis is important!
The early stages of Altitude sickness are easier to treat and the faster you treat altitude sickness
the less likely it is that you can develop other more serious conditions. I will talk about these
other conditions later. Keys to preventing acute mountain sickness include: Climb the mountain
gradually Stop for a day or two of rest for every 2,000 feet (600 meters) above 8,000 feet (2,400
meters) Sleep at a lower altitude when possible Learn how to recognize early symptoms of

Rorschach, By Alan Moore
Merriam Webster Dictionary defines a superhero as, a fictional character who has amazing powers
(such as the ability to fly) or a very heroic person ; yet, many of the characters in Watchmen have no
supernatural power and are immoral by most precedent societal standards. Alan Moore, in the
graphic novel Watchmen(1986 1987), asserts Rorschach as an example of deontology. Moore
supports his thoughts through dialogue and illustration. The author s purpose is to juxtapose
philosophical beliefs by comparing their varied flaws through differing narrators points of view.
The author takes a condescending tone in an effort to enrage his target audience of adult males.
This paper seeks to illustrate, qualify, and challenge Moore s claim that Rorschach is a deontologist.
Moore sets an example through the character Rorschach that all men should be protectors of their
society. In Watchmen, he portrays Rorschach as a vigilante hoping to save people from the evils
of wrong doers. With the threat of nuclear attack, the world is in turmoil. Rorschach investigates
the murder of fellow Watchman, Comedian, and warns other superheroes while enlisting the help
of Nite Owl in order to find out who is behind the latest attack. After Dr. Manhattan, a god like
superhero, is forced to leave earth for Mars, Rorschach is set up and placed in jail for murder. Nite

We all know that everyone goes through high school and college. We can compare that college is
much more challenging and complex than high school. This is a higher level of learning, thus,

company s health care and insurance costs. Even though drug testing has become common in
the workplace, there is little research that exists regarding this matter. Overall, drug testing

  • 2. Analysis Of The Novel Ethan Frome The setting of a novel is typically only the frame in which a novel takes place; it makes no grandiose overtures to become a larger part of the novel than it is. However, the setting of Starkfield in Ethan Frome is different in that the depiction of Starkfield is integral to one s understanding of the underlying motives and feelings of the characters in the novel. The accumulated cold of many Starkfield winters (Wharton 5) tangibly affects the personalities and actions of Ethan, Zeena, and Mattie, mostly negatively. The character of Ethan Fromeis first introduced to us via an unnamed narrator, who is an engineer temporarily assigned to Starkfield for work, and Harmon Gow, a former stagecoach driver. Ethan Frome is the most striking figure in Starkfield, though he was but the ruin of a man (1), and looks as if he was dead and in hell now (2). His life was a series of misfortunes, starting with the death of his father, the downward spiral of his mother s mental health, and his irrational decision to marry his cousin, Zenobia Pierce, and her subsequent spiral into sickliness. From the outset, Ethan Frome doomed himself the second he left his technical college and returned home to Starkfield, never to leave again. Everything about Starkfield seems to mock him, especially the cemetery that inters Ethan s family, the headstones seemingly mocking him with their existence: we never got away how should you? (21). His refusal to make any lasting decisions in his life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Political Corruption Essay Political Corruption Political corruption is one of the biggest problems in the United States government, but not just here in America, in other parts of the world as well. This global issue is making big headlines and it is all over the internet, yet people still don t fully believe that U.S. politicians are corrupt. The people that are making all of the under the table deals have got the American people blinded with false promises. The national debt is growing and we, the people, are blaming the President, illegal immigration, and big companies importing goods but the people that are to blame are representing us right now. Corruption is defined as moral perversion or the perversion of integrity. (Dictionary.com) This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It turns out the man had serious medical conditions and no health insurance. He robbed a bank to get free health care in prison. ( Corruption In America ) Lies are becoming an everyday part of the business world. JP Morgan marketed a CDO as a good investment when they knew it was total garbage. The SEC announced that JP Morgan has agreed to pay out 153 million dollars in settle charges related to the sale of a controversial collateralized debt obligation back in 2007. The people that helped pick out the underlying assets for the CDO also bet heavily that it would fail. ( Corruption In America ) A poll in Time magazine stated that 29% of people do not believe in the American Dream anymore. Maybe that is because we no longer have faith in the govt. This could be a cause of the lies they feed to us. $38.5 billion in budget cuts are largely illusory. The Washington Post reported, The Congressional Budget Office is saying that about $800 million in cuts are being made to domestic programs and foreign aid. ( Corrupted! ) The U.S. government is spending over $2 million a minute. With the National Debt rising, the unemployment line growing, and cuts to things like health care and public housing, where is all this money going? Law enforcement agencies are considered key agents in peace building and post conflict reconstruction efforts. For that reason, massive resources from the international community have ... Dulce et Decorum est was written by Wilfred Owen and Icarus Allsorts was written by Roger McGough. Dulce was written during WW1. Wilfred Owen wrote this poem while he was in a military hospital. In the poem Owen reveals the chilling truth about what WW1 was really like. Icarus was written in the tension of the Cold War. In the poem Roger McGough turns a very serious (fake) event into a joke. Dulce was written in 1917 and published in 1920. It was written to show that Jessie Pope s poem Who s for the Game was a whole pot of lies. Icarus Allsorts was written in 1964. In all my helpless dreams, before my helpless sight he plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning. In this quotation Owen is referring to a dream he has had. Also he is describing what is happening in the dream a man is drowning from gas. He is also having this dream because the things he has seen in war are things that will stick in his head forever. This is sad and negative. In 2012 we have computers, radios, T.V.s etc. and can find out what the conditions were like in any war but back in 1917 when WW1 was going on the only way for a family member to know what their son/dad/nephew/grandson was seeing was through a poem and reading poems like Dulce would make them feel worried and sad. Another difference is the way both poems are written. Icarus is written like a news report. Using a lack of punctuation does this. This stanza is an example of the lack of punctuation used in the poem. From every corner of the earth bombs began to fly there were even missile jams no traffic lights in the sky in the time it takes to blow your nose the people fell, the mushrooms rose. This lack of use of punctuation makes you read the poem fast this relates to how quick a nuclear bomb can drop and destroy. Also the lack of punctuation communicates the idea that all the events from the poem are occurring simultaneously as the bombs explode. Unfortunately, the use of informants has had little effect on lowering crime rates in areas where crime runs rampant. In the article by Alexandra Natapoff, titled, Bait and Snitch: The High Cost of Snitching for Law Enforcement, she discusses how informants do more harm than good at helping the war on crime. After doing some research on the topic, I would have to agree with Natapoff s belief because the use of informants has handicapped law enforcement agencies. Also, the informants themselves, are dangerous and the use of them has negatively affected communities. The use of informants in law enforcement has caused problems in law enforcement agencies. Police have come to overly rely on informants to help capture criminals, and doing this has caused them to use less more effective tactics. For instance, going undercover or doing sting operations. Emergence of the two competitors Ariba and Commerce One, companies that specialized in the support of electronic procurement for MRO products, changed the way indirect MRO spend used to be looked upon. Introduction of internet based procurement applications prompted a change from a centrally organized procurement (central buying) department to desktop procurement environment, where the employee in need of a product would initiate the purchase transaction electronically. With these two trends, decentralized purchasing and multi vendor catalogues , the conduit toward electronic support of the MRO buying process was paved. Thus, over the period, spend analysts have started observing carefully, to increase spend under management and implement better control over tail spend in order to reduce the amount of fulfilling formalities and time consumed in procuring these products. Understanding E Procurement in the MRO space With the advent of Internet technology in the area of MRO, the procurement of indirect material such as office supplies and services also became feasible for electronic support. • 12. Prohibition and the Effect on America From the beginning of the 20th century multiple political organizations and the federal government have fought to control alcoholism in America. I chose to do prohibition because the fact that the action taken by the federal government in order to form a better society has led to an explosion of criminal offences in the past as well as today. The effects of prohibition consistently offer a hand in the shaping of American culture. Full fledged black markets and organized crimegroups both offset the supposed benefits of prohibition. Today, teenagers often turn to the underage consumption of alcohol to make them seem cool, or as a form of rebellion against parental and governmental authorities. The temperance movementacted as a predecessor to the prohibition of alcohol in the 1920 s. The temperance movement relied heavily on the efforts put forth by the Women s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) and the Anti Saloon League. The WCTU lead thousands of women united against alcohol to make great pushes against alcoholism; they introduced an anti alcohol education into schools, and led protests for laws regulating and banning alcohol. The Anti Saloon League used the saloon must go as the war cry of their moral crusade against the production, sale, and consumption of alcoholic beverages. The genre that fits the most into this novella is realism, because of the separation of classes, the hard work that a person has to put into their every day life to try and make a difference, and the way society influences the actions of people and their relationships. However, no matter what genre is specifically chosen, there will be other genres present that contradict the genre of choice. While the novella shows romanticism, naturalism, and realism, this essay is specifically centered around realism. The point of this quote is to demonstrate that many people are unaware of what really goes on inside the mill, even though they live in a manufacturing town. Davis goes into detail about what the mill is like. Fire in every horrible form: pits of flame waving in the wind: liquid metal flames writhing in tortuous streams through the sand; wide caldrons filled with boiling fire, over which bent ghastly wretches stirring the strange brewing; and through all, crowds of half clad man, looking like revengeful ghosts in the red light, hurried, throwing masses of glittering fire. It was like a street in Hell. (Davis 1225) It is important to remember that the novella shows realism, but it also has a case of romanticism that backs up the realism efforts. The romanticism is displayed through her descriptive view of the Mill, where most that live in the manufacturing town do not realize how strenuous and horrid the working conditions are like. Hugh and Deborah have an interesting relationship, because of their interesting relationship it exemplifies realism perfectly. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many different things that go into what makes a more just and what makes a war unjust. Sun Tzu says that a war ought to be waged if it is an intelligent one and a just one. For the purposes of time, the focus will be on three of Sun Tzu s most important principles; 1. Know your enemy and yourself, then you will win a 100 battles, 2. Winning a 100 battles is not the pinnacle of success, avoiding war altogether, and 3. No long war is successful. In Sun Tzu s first principle, he is saying that one must know the reasons why they are fighting as well as the enemy and their motives, if one can do that then the war will be a successful one. Now let s look at this and apply it to the Iraq war. For one, as stated earlier in this document, the United States had no reasonable grounds as too the reason for the invasion of iraq. It was all based off of fears that there were weapons of mass destruction which later turned out to never had existed in the first place. Likewise, who really was the enemy in the Iraq war? Reflective Essay On Civil Rights During our time in class, we discussed several themes pertaining to the rights and freedoms of the LGBTQ community, and spoke at length about some of the landmark cases that helped to give the community the liberties that they enjoy today. In order to better understand the struggle that the community had to endure in order to achieve these rights, we will review several different cases and tie them to things we learned in class, analyzing the roles that they played in achieving progress in various fields that were once dangers for members of this group. By understanding some of the landmark legal actions that were made in the quest for equal rights, perhaps then we can more fully understand the extent of the obstacles that they have overcome. And not all of these cases go in their favor, either, showing that even at the highest echelons of the American legal system, there have been and still continue to be significant prejudices which must be faced day in and day out. The most important step forward in the timeline of LGBTQ rights was the acceptance that homosexual acts were, in fact, not crimes, and that homosexuals could live in the open without fear of repercussion from the law. In class, we discussed the case of Bowers v. Hardwick, which upheld the constitutionality of sodomy laws and effectively criminalized homosexual relations until the 2003 case of Lawrence v. For example, take this quote: The problem with crack dealing is the same as in every other glamour profession: a lot of people are competing for a very few prizes (Levitt and Dubner, pg. 103). This strange way of regarding to crack dealing as a glamour profession is a perfect portrayal of how these authors are very laidback and casual about what they have to say. • 26. The Life and Music of Gustav Holst Essay The Life and Music of Gustav Holst Gustav Holst, born in Cheltenham in September 1847, is still today considered to be one of the greatest music composers of all time. He was not very fond of music when he was younger, but he enjoyed the piano. He was sent to Cheltenham Grammar School and forced to take long music lessons, even though he had neuritis in his hands. His first job was an organist and Choirmaster at the Choral Society, Bourbon on the Water. Impressed at his good ear for music, his father borrowed some money to send him to the Royal College of Music, which he had previously failed to enter. As he got older, the neuritis in his hands got worse, and it was almost impossible for him to play the piano, so he took up the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After many refusals of his works, Holst became rather unwell, so took him to Algeria for a holiday. The warm climate and bright colours of Algeria inspired Holst, so he decided to start working on a new piece called Beni Mora, but it was not a great success. In 1912, his performance of The Cloud Messenger was a hit, so he went to Spain for a holiday to celebrate. While there, he met Clifford Bax, who encouraged him to write a movement called The Planets. It was very successful. In 1923, Holst was conducting a rehearsal at University College, when he slipped and fell off the platform onto his head. The damage was deadly, and it was years before he recovered from the effects. Later on, after a trip to America, Holst received great congratulations for his performance of the Planets, and an anonymous rich man gave him several hundred pounds to spend on his music. But, Holst was beginning to have bad effects of the concussion he was in earlier, and he couldn t bear to have anything touch the back of his head. He spent many nights in agony, so his doctor suggested that he moved away from London. So that is exactly what he did. He bought a small house in Thaxtead and lived there for nearly a year, but much of his music was failing. In 1926, Holst was working in Dorset. Internal Security Threat Regarding Employees Part (i) Threat 1 a)Title: Internal Threats Employee threats b)Description of security threatAn internal threat concerning employees is a wide ranging issue as it can encompass various situations. The primary issue stems from an authorized, nontechnical user or a system that can utilize the system without creating a red flag. (Peltier, 187). c)Justification for inclusion with emphasis on risk and potential damageThe internal threat is a primary issue as employees, statically, is the cause of security issues. The information available to the employees can commit various types of criminal acts from fraud, to insider trading, to breaking international laws. There can also be issues with disgruntled employees, potentially if the employee is only contracted or temporary. It is a common practice in large companies, especially international companies, to outsource and contract work. This can create issues with personnel if a contract is ended in an unexpected way. There is also an inherent temptation with the information available, especially considering various white collar crimes. d)Organizational responseAn organizational response would be to create policies to deter internal attacks, which can be done in multiple ways. Unlike the legal systems in Europe and the United States, Australia does not demand an explicit legal prerequisite of good faith to form a contract.[1] Decisions in different jurisdictions have however considered the validity of the values identified in the doctrine of good faith within contract law, such as loyalty, honesty and cooperation. Good faith is valuable because it provides confidence in the formation of contracts between two parties. However there are conflicting views and criticisms of the doctrine of good faith. The duty identified by Cockburn CJ is a negative one: not to prevent the existence or continuance of that which is necessary to enable the contract to be fulfilled. However, the contractual duty of co operation may include a positive element. Where performance of a contract is conditional on some contingency that is (to a greater of lesser extent) within the control of a party, that party must do what is reasonably necessary to enable the condition to be fulfilled, so that the usual remedies for breach of contract including damages, specific performance and termination may become available upon breach. See Perri v Coolangatta Investments Pty Limited (1982) 149 CLR 537 (as to damages); Masters v Cameron (1954) 91 CLR 353 (as to specific performance); and Kheng v Secola [2001] WASCA 3 (as to termination). Proposal On Foster Care Providing a child with an outstanding support system is a vital key in creating an environment in which he or she can learn how to grow as a child, and as a human being. Here at American Airlines we strive to provide children with the absolute highest of quality in foster care. We are pleased to create a proposal that, we believe, will help the Dallas foster caresystem improve on some of their current issues. The proposal aims to not only construct and provide local events to raise awareness about these issues, but to also host fundraisers geared towards improving the living conditions of foster children. One of these issues is the overcrowding of current foster homes in the Dallas metroplex area. l Figure 1 shows foster home capacity needs by county: red meaning an under supply of foster homes, and blue meaning an oversupply of foster homes. From figure 1, we can see that Dallas County is facing a deficit (undersupplied) of foster homes available to foster children. We can also see from Figure 1 that the surrounding areas of Dallas, such as: Denton county, Collin county, Kaufman county, and Rockwall county all have an oversupply of foster homes. This means that children from Dallas county have no other choice but to move to foster homes outside of Dallas county. This results in moving away from friends and family, which can be traumatizing to a child. We feel that this is one of the primary problems we aim to fix in the Dallas foster care system. • 31. Literary Analysis Of Revelation By Flannery OConnor Revelation Among many diseases, judgment is an epidemic virus within the human mind; more dangerously with the lack of discernment can create a toxic atmosphere and such intoxication is highlighted within the short story, Revelation, by Flannery O Connor. The story is set in the south, and revolves around an irrational yet religious character, name Mrs. Turpin, who overlooks her own flaws to cast judgments on others. The author uses language, irony, and archetypes within the story to present that judgement is a form of unconscious self deception that causes hypocritical behavior and ultimately self agitation. The author demonstrates this by having the characters cast judgment upon each other, which makes the act of passing judgment on to others an infectious disease fed by society. The usage of informal language in the beginning of the story, produces transparent characters by exposing their flaws through their speech. Opening with the reckless announcement addressed by Mrs.Turpin, I wish I could reduce (3). in front of strangers had marked her hasty character. This early exposure of her flaw notes the tragedy of her character for being quick to speak, quick to conclude and quick to judge. Altitude sickness is an illness you can get from ascending too high above sea level too quickly without acclimatizing to the decrease in oxygen levels. Altitude sickness, also called acute mountain sickness, is caused by exposure to low partial pressure of oxygen at high altitude. At high altitude atmospheric pressure is lower than at sea level. Rorschach, By Alan Moore Merriam Webster Dictionary defines a superhero as, a fictional character who has amazing powers (such as the ability to fly) or a very heroic person ; yet, many of the characters in Watchmen have no supernatural power and are immoral by most precedent societal standards. Alan Moore, in the graphic novel Watchmen(1986 1987), asserts Rorschach as an example of deontology. Moore supports his thoughts through dialogue and illustration. The author s purpose is to juxtapose philosophical beliefs by comparing their varied flaws through differing narrators points of view. The author takes a condescending tone in an effort to enrage his target audience of adult males. This paper seeks to illustrate, qualify, and challenge Moore s claim that Rorschach is a deontologist. Moore sets an example through the character Rorschach that all men should be protectors of their society. In Watchmen, he portrays Rorschach as a vigilante hoping to save people from the evils of wrong doers. With the threat of nuclear attack, the world is in turmoil. The implementation of drug testing by companies grew in recent years. American workers have seen a dramatic increase in the use of drug testing in the previous years. Drug testing is implemented to assure safe workplaces for American workers. Drug testing can reduce the company s health care and insurance costs. Even though drug testing has become common in the workplace, there is little research that exists regarding this matter. Overall, drug testing affects the decisions of workers by adopting a zero tolerance policy. Experienced users try to beat these tests by using drug to cancel the tracking of the drug itself. These workers attempt to avoid the detection of drug use for long periods (Borack, 1995). Literature implies that employee drug use in the workplace may create high costs to firms in the form of lower productivity, increased absences, and an increase in workplace accidents.
