Little Miss Sunshine By Michael Arndt
There are some families that love to win and influence their children to be the very best they can
be. Little Miss Sunshine written by Michael Arndt is a warm heartfelt movie about a little girl
named Olive Hoover with the dream of competing in the Little Miss Sunshine pageant in
California. Olive is part of a very dysfunctional family which includes the supportive mother
Sherrill, the determined father Richard, quiet brother Dwayne, crazy grandfather Edwin, and the
suicidal uncle Frank. The family members all come together a to bring the young aspiring
daughter Olive to her dream pageant. The Hoover family does not live in the best conditions and
are forever going through a constant struggle, but they try to make the best of things. The family
all piles into an old Volkswagen van to drive from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Redondo Beach,
California. The drive is not stress free and the family encounters a few bumps along the way. They
eventually make it to the pageant and Olive comes to life on stage with her family s support. I
viewed this film through the developmental perspective using Jean Piaget s theory of development
and Vygotsky s sociocultural developmental theory. I will portray the developmental theory
throughout the rest of the paper within adult/child relationships while using sections of the film
and an article by Scarr and McCarthy with elements of the theory s, capacities of children using
examples from the film and an article by Scarr and McCarthy, and

Pathophysiology Of Chronic Asthma And Acute Asthma
Introduction
Respiratory disorder, mostly affect the upper or lower respiratory tract, however bacterial or viral
infection are the causative agent and the disease is common in all ages. In addition, the lungs and
the bronchi can also be affected, causing inflammation and obstruction of the airflow resulting in
wheezing, chest tightness, stridor, low grade fever, cough, and hemoptysis due severe damage to
the lung tissues. Most common diseases of the respiratory system include; pneumonia, croup,
asthma, bronchitis, laryngitis, and tuberculosis, affected disease location determines the signs and
symptoms. Hereditary and environmental factors such as allergens and other irritants can be a
contributory factor, especially in children. However, respiratory compromise occur as a result of
incomplete airway development among this vulnerable population predisposing them to chronic
asthma (Huether McCance, 2012).
The purpose of this paper is to describe the pathophysiology of chronic asthma and acute asthma
exacerbation, with explanation of arterial blood gas pattern during an asthma exacerbation. Also,
explain how ethnicity might impact pathophysiology of asthma and asthma exacerbation. The
diagnosis and treatment plan needed to relieve the presented signs and symptoms will be reviewed.
Lastly, constructs two mind maps for chronic asthma and asthma exacerbation including its
epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis and treatment.

Organizational Culture And Its Influence On The...
Introduction
When a system shows the employees of the organisation what the behaviours should and should not
be, shares values and assumptions, it is termed as organisational culture. These values determine the
behaviour of the employees and also have a great influence on the organisation s performance. In
1980, Peter Waterman s book In Search of Excellence made the term organisational culturepopular.
His book made the argument that organization s achievement could be ascribed to an organisational
culture that was unequivocal, client situated, enabling, and individuals arranged. From that point
forward, organisational culture has turned into the subject of various research studies, books, and
articles. As opposed to a point, for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, a culture that enables personnel to come to a decision could demonstrate greatly
impervious to a unified organisational strategy, hampering the leader s capability to authorize such
a configuration. In any case, a culture that maintains the organisational structure (and the other way
around) can be very effective (Mason Carpenter, Talya Bauer, Berrin Erdogan, 2014)
The study of organisational culture is important and significant because it helps shape right
decisions for the organisation and outlines the behavioural expectations from employees and also
helps them interact with each other. Organisational culture also helps individual employees, groups
and the organisation as a whole to manage the assigned work and tasks and meet deadlines. The
attitude of stake holders towards the organisation, the organisations ability to accept change and the
efficiency of work within the organisation is well understood with the study of organisational
culture (Kenneth Desson Joseph Clouthier, 2010)

Glass Slipper And Cinderella Compare And Contrast
The differences between brother grim and the glass slipper are vast. There are different
character trait in each and different storyline. There are also some similarities in each story as
well for example there is a happy ending in each story. An example for a difference would be the
slipper in the glass slipper it was glass but in the brother grim it was gold.
The setting in Cinderella is the same as the glass slipper in many ways there is not many
differences in both stories. There are however lots of differences in both stories when it comes to
characters. A diffrence is the main characters name is different in both stories In cinderella the

The Societal And Cultural Values
There are different ways through which artists represent gender in their works. Whereas there
are artists that represent diverse gender as people of dignity, others represent them with a lot of
stereotypes. For instance, most male artists have represented women as money hungry
individuals with lavish lifestyle. Consequently, the male rappers have in most cases objectified
women and used them to portray their fantasy lifestyle. It is because of this kind of
representation that this paper analyses 50 Cents Candy Shop. In this essay I will specifically
discuss the societal and cultural values 50 cent portrays through his music and music videos.
The essay will also explore the message that 50 Cent delivers to his audience and how it
influences their behaviors and values. During his first few albums, 50 Cent portrayed a more
Ghetto lifestyle. It is worth mentioning that his popularity was on the rise and therefore, his
lifestyle did not reflect the rich lifestyle that he is now. The scenes and his mode of dressing and
even lyrics at this time depicted a ghetto glam lifestyle. However, ones he made fortune through
music, his lyrics changed and grew with him. Most of his music, lyrics, mode of dressing and
even places where he shoots his movie reflects this fact. In his Candy shop, he uses women actors
to portray his lavish lifestyle. The video begins by showing 50 Cent driving up to what appears to
be a mansion. Inside the mansion, there are several women who are dressed

Unburned Vegetation Survey
Results The percent coverage of the four types of vegetation was calculated using the data that
we gathered in this experiment. The values for the f tests and t tests were also calculated in this
experiment for the four different types of vegetation as well as for the DBH of species in
burned and unburned sites. The percent coverage of woody vegetation in burned sites:
27.8125% В± 29.83%, is higher than that the percent coverage of woody vegetation in unburned
sites: 15.25% В± 14.69% (Figure 1). Grasses in burned areas also have higher percent coverage
than the percent coverage of grasses in unburned areas: 36.75% В± 30.01% for grasses compared
to 5.125% В± 6.49% in the grasses (Figure 1). The percent coverage of annuals perennials in burned

The F test values in canopies (0.031271512) and sub canopies (0.005008424) are both below 0.05
so we can say with 92% confidence that the canopy structures in burned and unburned areas
differ and with 97% confidence that the sub canopies vary between the burned and unburned
areas. Unburned areas tended to have better developed structures of canopy and sub canopy
trees because they were given more time to accumulate compared to recently burned areas
which have recently undergone a disturbance. The F test value for DBH (0.022472008) is also
below 0.05 so we also have to assume that there is variance in terms of DBH in burned and
unburned sites. Unburned sites have larger trees (larger DBH) because these trees had more
time to grow compared to trees in recently burned sites. Since the F tests values for the logs
(0.076083352) and shrubs (0.340469754) were calculated to be above 0.05, we are not able to
draw definitive conclusions on this data, therefore we have to assume that the logs and shrub
structures did not vary within the burned and unburned sites (Klowden et al. 2015). Succession
is evident in this experiment as there is an overall greater percent coverage of grasses, woody
plants, and annuals perennials in burned areas compared to open space. Open space is greatest
in unburned areas and there is more open space in unburned areas than burned areas; this is
mainly because the woody plants in unburned areas store lots of nutrients within themselves,
therefore having less grasses and smaller plants on forest floors (Dickman et al 2014). Five
different species of canopy trees were identified in unburned sites compared to only three species
of canopy trees identified in burned sites which allows me to conclude that there is more diversity
in the species of canopy trees in unburned areas than burned areas. There may have been more
types of species found in unburned

Changing Cartograhies
Changing Cartographies
Introduction According to Silver and Balmori (2003 48) Cartography, a term derived from the
word for chart (charte) or drawing, has in recent years undergone a radical transformation. This
was identified earlier as Anson (1988 ix) noted Today the art and science of map making is caught
in the throes of a technological revolution which shows no signs of slowing down. However,
advancements in mapping have been associated with scientific developments in mainly the
computer and internet technologies. Prior to this, mapping had been quite primitive in a sense as
Wikipedia (2012) states that cartograms were created by hand before Waldo Tobler produced one
of the first cartograms aided by computer visualization. During ... Show more content on

Cartograms, according to Wikipedia (2012) are maps in which some thematic mapping variable...is
substituted for land area or distance. The geometry or space of the map is distorted in order to
convey the information of this alternate variable. Computers alleviate the difficulties of cartogram
construction Constructing a usable cartogram is challenging (Peterson, 2004) but fortunately
computers are changing mapping in many ways (Monmonier, 1982 16). This is echoed by Krygier
and Wood (2005 14) who point out changes in technology have always affected map making.
2
Computers can increase the value of the map as a decision making tool and different goals
produce different maps (Krygier and Wood, 2005 1). They go on to say that the computer is fast
and precise, and has a useful role to play in the production of maps. Computers and their software
are the catalyst for map production. Maps are vital in development in the form of an important
decisionmaking tool but without computers, cartograms could not have facilitated a rapid growth
in cities after the Second World War. Gregory and Ell (2007 105) state that producing cartograms
were a lengthy task for a cartographer and many subjective judgements (in relation to distances,
positions and areas of features) had to be made. They go on to say that The advent of computer
mapping through GIS has led to the reawakening of interest in

Great Bear Descriptive Writing
On a cold December day in 2014, I found myself snowboarding down the small and very icy hill of
Great Bear. On this chilly day there were very few people riding up the very bright red chair lift.
As the very few that were there went down the hill you could hear as skis or snowboards slice
through the thin layer of ice. From the Chair lift I can see everything on the hilland around the are.I
was carefully examining the hill and the area they call the Terrain Park . Little did I know this
day would make the next few months very difficult. As I stare into this are marked as most
difficult I see all of the features I know that I can do very easily. I make very many quick runs up
and down the small hill of Great bear. I begin to notice new things that I had never attempted
before. I begin to think to myself that it may not be a good idea on a frigid day like it had been. As
I begin to keep coming back I knew that if I was going to try it that now would have to be the
time. Thinking to myself that if I were to fall that would mean I was working harder then I had

with this sport that I had picked up a few years before. I then made my way halfway down the hill
where the new rail was that I was going to try. This had been called the Propane tank and was very
large compared to the other features in the terrain park. I made my way up the on ramp as I slowly
begin to feel my self on the very slippery surface. As I begin to ride along I begin to feel myself

Summary Of I Am My Dad
Come here my children let your grandma tell you a story, a true story that had happen to your
grandpa and I. This story takes place in 2015 when your grandpa was 17 and I was 16. We were
so young then. You may say you want to be older but when you turn my age you re going to
wish time slowed down. Gosh those were such happy days if only I could go back in time to
when your grandpa and I were traveling the world together but that s a different story for another
time. Let s get back to the story now where did I leave off at ... oh I remember now. It was your
aunt Erin, grandpa, your grandpa s friend Corey, and myself of course. We just got invited to the
biggest Halloween party ever. The party was at an old abandon hospital that no one had been to
in many years. Everyone at the school had heard stories about why it was abandon but no one
believed in them. The story I heard was that the hospital was built over a cemetery which
happens to open on Friday the 13th but they closed it down a year later because a demon would
attack anyone that walk through those hospital doors. I guess it was a good thing they were at
the hospital. *I laugh.* Your grandpa and I were face timing each other on our iPhone 6 (those
are what we had before all the new gadgets came out) we were going over what costumes to wear
so we could win the costume contest. Your aunt Erin was Super Girl, Corey was Batman, your
grandpa was Superman, and I was Super Woman. There was only one day until the Halloween

In J.D. Salinger s Nine Stories , there are two stories that indicate a death, and, remarkably, these
two short stories are what begin and end this captivating piece of literature. The first story is
called A Perfect Day for Bananafish and introduces a man who has been through the hell of
World War II, which allows him to see things from a different perspective. The latter is called
Teddy and revolves around a young, ingenious boy that seems to have a speculative mindset and
very deep insight into life. In both stories the reader is introduced to a genius , but the geniuses,
with all the potentials at hand, end up going mad and killing themselves. However, this proves to
be Salinger s point. It demonstrates a fine line that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Seymour takes his own life, we backtrack to his story and he is then seen as a celestial
figure, ahead of his time and full of wisdom. Metaphorically speaking, the bananafish ideology
depicts humanity in the postwar boom generation, where riches surround all people. However,
amidst all the possessions, we cannot help ourselves and we continuously and relentlessly consume,
regardless of what may happen as a result. We are each trapped in our own banana filled hole, in
which Seymour ultimately escapes from through his death.
In the final short story Teddy , the main character is a ten year old boy who is as intuitive and
intelligent as any character gets in this novel, with the exception of Seymour of course. Like
Seymour Glass, Teddy sees the world differently than his peers. The two tend to focus their a lot
of their attention on small details, such as orange peels, the colour of bathing suits, a woman that
seemingly looks at Seymour s feet, and appear to mirror a larger scale vision of humanity. Teddy
s orange peels recall Seymour s bananafish. Both their objects, in Seymour s case an imaginary
one, are somewhat allegorical in a sense that they seem to suggest a philosophical portrayal of
humanity. To clarify, Teddy first notices the orange peels floating and finds them interesting. The
remnants of what was once a living fruit, now floating, lifeless on the dark water. Later on he notes
that, if he had not seen the orange peels, he would

The Digital Of Digital Master
In this 21st century, becoming digital is very critical for many businesses across different
industries. A few companies have found their successful paths by leveraging the digital aspects of
the business. Those companies who have been successful in the digital world, regardless of the
industry they are in, are referred to as Digital Master . Digital Master is company who has both the
digital capability and leadership capability. It is also defined as having strong overarching digital
vision, excellent governance across silos, digital initiatives generating business value in
measureable ways, and strong digital culture (Westerman, Bonnet, McAfee, 2014). Among all of
these characteristics, a compelling customer experience and core operations play crucial roles in
building digital capability. This paper is going to elaborate on the successful stories of two
companies, Burberry and Asian Paints, which have created both compelling digital customer
experiences and exploiting the power of core operations (Westerman, Bonnet, McAfee, 2014).
Firstly, there are three things that Digital Master does differently in creating a compelling customer
experience: Designing customer experience from the outside in, creating reach and customer
engagement, putting customer data at the heart of the experience, and seamlessly meshing physical
and digital experiences in new ways (Westerman, Bonnet, McAfee, 2014). I.Compelling digital

Martin Luther Splintering Of Religion
Divine grace was a particularly prominent concern in sixteenth century Europe, it prompted the
splintering of Christendom and was therefore responsible in large part for the subsequent violence.
With the extensive conflict motivated by debates over the delivery of divine grace, it comes as no
surprise that leading figures of the era harbored vastly differing opinions on the subject. Martin
Luther, John Fisher, and Hans Staden, drawing from the exact same source material, came to
drastically different conclusions regarding the bestowment, acceptance, and discovery of divine
grace. Martin Luther s personal interpretation of divine grace differed so greatly from that of other
christians that it facilitated the splintering of a religion. Luther s influential interpretation was
formed on the basis of two claims made by St. Paul in his Letter to the Romans. First, a justified
Christian lives by faith alone, and second Christ is the end and the fulfillment of all commandments
for those who believe in Him, (Luther 22). Luther interpreted St. Paul s words to mean that divine
grace is bestowed through faith, that Faith... will abundantly justify those who have it, such that
they require nothing more to be righteous and pious, (Luther 22). The idea of being saved through
nothing but faith resonated with Luther, a man obsessed with his own repentance, to the point that
he visited confession several times daily (Smith). The inherent nature of faith, as Luther viewed it,
was quite

The Issue Of Popular Support
The issue of popular support is further connected to terrorist group s specific objectives, or
goals. In general, terrorists motivated by a religious component are often associated with
apocalyptic like goals. Hoffman notes that these apocalyptic goals, are in nature more violent
when compared to the often more tangible political based goals of many secular groups. The
association between religiously motivated terrorist groups and apocalyptic like goals is well
known throughout academia. Jessica Stern s book, Terror in the Name of God further references
this connection. She is particularly careful not to equate these general end of time beliefs to one
religion in particular. Instead she notes how such beliefs often span across multiple religions by
noting their presence in various sacred texts across all three of the major Abrahamic faiths. She
further ties back to Hoffman s work when discussing how apocalyptic like goals often allow for
more violence and destruction when compared to other terrorist objectives (such as forming a new
government, or expelling a foreign nation from perceived territory). While Hoffman notes the
specific constituency that secular terrorists must appeal to, Stern ties the lack of a needed
supportive constituency back to religious terrorist goals. Because religiously motivated groups
often seek the complete destruction of society, these groups are less concerned with long term
popular support, (beyond basic funding and recruitment needs.)

Beowulf and Modern United States Essay
Beowulf and Modern United States
Many people who read the poem Beowulf would probably find it hard to find similarities
between the poem and life in modern America. How could one compare an ancient Anglo Saxon
culture with the sophisticated world that we are living in today? But, if we look closely, we
may be able to pinpoint some parallel between the two societies. This essay will discuss the
topics of warrior life, the bad guy, and social similarities. One might wonder how a warrior
culture might be similar to our own? But if we consider American culture, we are actually still
very war like. We have a strong military system built to protect our country and the people that
make it up. We are also known for going to the aid of other... Show more content on

There have been anti war protests because people are not so sure who the bad guy is. In Beowulf, I
felt that same idea. Even though Grendel is doing bad things, I don t think that he is so different
from the humans. He is killing people for his own reasons, which is the same attitude I saw in
Beowulf. Grendel is jealous of the humans and his inability to be like them causes him to kill
those same people he envies. Murders are acts of revenge in some cases in the story such as the
death of Aeschere by Grendel s mother for her son s death. Killing occurs in the story for very
simple or petty motives.
There is also a social similarity in the cultures. There is the same idea of people coming together
to relax and talk while drinking alcohol. Many times the alcohol can lead to negative
conversations. This can be seen in Beowulf. Unferth says to Beowulf, Are you that Beowulf who
contended with Breca, competed in swimming on the broad sea, where for pride you explored
the water, and for foolish boast ventured lives in the deep? (Norton 11) He is trying to put
Beowulf down here, and I m sure the alcohol made it easier for him to say what it is he is
thinking. In Beowulf, the mead hall is a hub for this type of social interaction, a way to relax from
the pressures of the warrior life. This is very similar to American society now. Bars and similar
establishments have replaced the mead halls, but

High Stakes Testing And The Turn Is Not Well Received
The educational forum has had many trend changes over years. The current trend in education is
mainly focused on accountability through assessment, such as standardized tests.
There are many defining factors and elements that are articulated in the realm of standardized
testing. Some of these factors are academic shift from learning to accountability in learning, test
data, the problems that plague education and schools related to standardized tests, and the possible
solutions for them. Education has gone from standardized testing to high stakes testing and the turn
is not well received. A standardized testis defined by, The Glossary of Education Reform , as any

This literature will focus on focusing on large scale, high stakes testing. They can include multiple
choice questions, true false questions, short answer questions, essay questions, or a mix of question
types. The article titled, Standardized Tests states, that the most common forms of standardized
tests are: achievement tests, aptitude tests, college admission tests, international comparison tests,
and psychological tests. Standardized tests have been around for hundreds of years. The test
originated in the 1800 s. The test was created by Horace Mann. The test was to decide how students
were mastering their current level of work and whether they should proceed to the next level. There
were no negative consequences associated with the tests or scores. After the publication of the
Coleman Report (Coleman et al., 1966), which took an in depth look into the education system and
analyzed how the education system affected student achievement, the use of standardized
achievement tests for accountability became the trend. It was all about everyone involved in the
education of a body of students should be held accountable for the learning and teaching of those
students. The teachers and others involved had to answer to the political bodies that were providing
funding for the education system. In 2001 the No Child Left Behind Act was passed under the
administration of President Bush. The act is based on improving instructional outcomes for
students with disabilities. The

1.Messages: What are the important messages and themes of the film?
The hit blockbuster movie, The Blind Side transmits the message that we take so much in life for

What Does Digger Mean
Digger It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining and the grass was green, in middle of the yard
was a trampoline. The net was black and the mat that covered the grey silver springs was a
medium dark blue and has holes from the dogs going up and down and up and down. You could
hear the paws go off the mat and makes the spring go back to it s original position, I was doing a
flip. Five minutes had passed before I heard a vomit noise that sounded like water coming down
a faucet. Then I saw Digger, Digger was a golden retriever with dark eyes and a pink nose. His
nose was pink because he would stick it in the sparkly white snow every white winter. Right there

The Assessment Team Administrator Should Begin The Process...
The assessment team administrator should begin the process of soliciting assessment team
members. Many organizations solicit members through. Their corporate newsletter, electronic mail,
or a personal letter sent from the president/CEO inviting participation. Team members selections
should be considered from a group of employees who have expressed an interest in better
understanding homeland security and using the Baldrige Criteria as a template for improving their
organization s homeland security infrastructure. Once teammembers have been selected, it is
recommended that an assessment workshop be conducted by the assessment team administrator or
team participants who have an understanding of homeland security issues and the Baldrige Criteria.
The workshop may include using a case study for the team to practice identifying organizational
strengths and opportunities for improvement in at least one or two categories. During the
workshop, the team will discuss each category and determine What does this mean for my
organization? The use of this manual will help the team practice translating homeland security
issues and Baldrige Criteria into simple language for their own organization wide

Descartes s Discourse On Method
In his Discourse on Method, Rene Descartes asserts that all human beings are equal in their ability
to reason and that any differences in opinion are not a result of a difference in ability to reason, but
in the application of the reasoning. Descartes begins his argument for this claim by stating that
rational thought and reason is what separates humans from animals, and that if all people have this
ability to reason, then that must be the distinguishing feature of humanity. He goes on to explain
that while individuals may differ within a species in regard to their non essential qualities, they will
not differ in the species distinguishing feature. This rule accounts for the diversity within humanity
as a species (such as differing hair colors, heights, and weights) while equalizing humanity s ability
to reason. From these premises, Descartes concludes that all humans must have an equal ability to
reason and that differences in thought are merely a result of differences in the application of the
individual s reasoning. In Part V of his Discourse, Descartes continues his argument for reasoning
being the essence of humanity by arguing that non human animals and machines cannot reason, and
therefore reasoning must be solely attributed to humans. Descartes presents two tests to determine
whether or not a being is human or non human, both based on the adaptability of the being s
responses. He first asserts that since machines and non human animals cannot communicate via

Shale Gas Fracking Research Paper
Abstract This paper presents an initial argument regarding the presently booming economy of shale
gas extraction within the United Kingdom. The extraction of shale gas, as it has been in the United
States, has not been without its due challenges. Hence, it is imperative to consider the views of the
government regarding this arising economy change. Moreover, in this paper, the regulatory
framework present to maintain and control the extraction of shale gas and all of its supplementary
practices has been presented in this paper. A qualitative methodology of examination has been
suggested for the evaluation of the research questions presented and it is recommended that such an
examination is likely to add to the knowledge of the policymakers and the investors. The study
concludes with pointing out the implications for the aforementioned stakeholders. Introduction

Mc Organic Acid
After exposing the sample to UV radiation the visible band is determine to be at the maximum
absorbance, as shown in Figure 1. This absorbance band at 563 nm and 579 nm corresponds to
the reaction SP в†’ MC. By monitoring the exponential decay function of MC, we are able to
construct a linear fit of the data, as shown in Figure 3, which confirms a first order decay. The
corresponding rate constants were determined from the slope of the fit, and it was found that as we
increase [SP] the rate is relatively constant. Further, this reaction was done on different solvents,
which includes acetone and cyclohexane. Following Table 2, it seems that with the addition of
cyclohexane, the rate of decay of MC is faster. This indicates that due to the non polar... Show more

With the inclusion of an organic acid, it protonates the MC to form MCH+. This compound itself
has a different absorbance band relative to MC, which was found to be around 408 nm in
acetone and 453 nm in cyclohexane. Because the reaction must follow this sequence MCH+в†’
MC в†’ SP, the corresponding rate of decay must be slower. As shown in Table 1 and 2, the
decay rate with the addition of TFA is significantly lower relative to just SP in the solution.
However, increasing acid concentration slows down the decay rate because more of MC is
being converted to MCH+. Ergo, it will have a longer process to convert all of the MCH+ back
into SP. Again, comparing the rate of decay of MCH+ at different solvents, it was determined
that the environment did not have a drastic effect on the conversion. In addition, the average of
the rate of decay was calculated for the first four samples and was found to be 0.00630 s 1 and
0.0243 s 1 for acetone and cyclohexane, respectively, which gave an error of 26.0 % and 40.3 %.
The inconsistency with these values was most likely caused by the insufficient time interval for the

Time to Reduce Nuclear Dangers by Garwin and Gronlund
According to the Arms Control Association, as of 2013 there was roughly 15,494 deployed and
non deployed nuclear warheads between the five nuclear weapon states. The argument of
whether or not nuclear weapons should be reduced in the United States is starting to arise.
Nuclear weapons have the power to kill millions of people and lots of land. This is an issue that
can t be ignored. Nuclear weapons should be reduced in the United States because it s a danger to
the world and could ruin this Earth and eventually its people.
The United States can have fewer nuclear weapons without putting our nations security in
jeopardy. If we have just a little less nuclear power we could still have power over other
countries but not too much power. However, some may argue that having a lot of nuclear
weapons on and keeps the United States safe from harm. Robert Spalding said, The U.S. nuclear
force exists to keep a threshold on the level of violence. While nuclear weapons are a useful source
of defense, it s still overdone to the point where it s too much. The Pentagon, the headquarters of the
United States defense, even thinks the nation should reduce its nuclear weapon number. Garwin
and Gronlund said in their article, According to news reports, the Pentagon has concluded that the
United States can meet its security needs with fewer deployed weapons perhaps 1,000. If our
country isn t using our extra nuclear weapons, we could afford to get rid of only 1,000 of them. As

Trifles By Susan Glaspell s A Rose For Emily
It is said that all humans experience loneliness at some point in their life. As some people isolate
themselves, they are facing the world with the uncertainty of counting on someone else. On the
other hand, isolation from society can also bring peace, comfort, and evaluation of one s self. In
the Trifles by Susan Glaspells and A Rose for Emilyby William Faulknerthe short story and play
transmit a theme of isolation, but in their case, it leads them to disturbing actions.
Starting off firstly, in A Rose for Emily , it shows that the setting took place around the end of the
civil war. After the war, Emily s father Mr. Grierson in essence, raised his young daughter Emily to

names of that neighborhood; only Miss Emily s house was left, lifting its stubborn and
coquettish decay above the cotton wagons and the gasoline pumps¬ an eyesore among sores
(Faulkner 906). It explains that Emily is refusing to move forward and keeps living in the past.
For instance, as society was evolving and becoming more modern she would refuse to pay taxes
and receive newer mail services. Emily was exempt from paying taxes at the beginning of her
father s death as he lent the mayor a big amount of money. As a decade went by, they wanted her
to resume her payments, and she would refuse to do so. In a way, Emily does not want to move
forward into the new generation because she respects her father s traditional morals and wishes.
She does not want to tarnish his memory. Emily later starts dating a man who is new to town
and is helping renovate the town, like paving the sidewalks. Homer Barron, her love interest, later
gave the impression that they might get married. While homer is out of town, Emily buys rat
poison and gives an impression to some towns people that she might try to commit suicide.
Homer came back into town and disappeared with Emily in her house and was never seen again
after. Faulkner says, For a long while we stood there looking down at the profound and fleshless

Comparing The Writing Style Of The Murders In The Rue Morgue
The writing style of Poe s short story, The Murders in the Rue Morgue, is ornate, however, there are
several writing styles that represent the different aspects of an investigative team. When Dupin and
the narrator speak the writing style and voices are complex which conveys their intelligence to the
audience. During the examination of the room the story s voice transitions from elegant and
perceptive to choppy and informative. This concise writing style is that of a witness or the mind of
an investigator who is gathering information and recording it. The immense amount of information
gathered from the witnesses allows the audience to question which pieces of evidence are
paramount and which don t align with what is known about the case. Therefore,

The Crime Of The Criminal Justice System
The criminal justice system in England and Wales is made up of multiple agencies which all have

of a civilized society with a society s formal response to crimebeing the responsibility of the
criminal justicesystem more specifically in terms of a series of decisions and actions being taken by
a number of agencies (Criminal Justice). Law enforcement, courts, the penal system, and crime

aware and so is able to form opinions and ideas about the way the criminal justice system, and the

can be seen in the structures and practices in place; such things as the contents of the law, the
various sentences enforced by the courts, and countries citizens perspectives of crime and
punishment.
In England and Wales adversarial justice is the main principle used in the criminal justice
system. The adversarial system is not designed to establish the truth about an incident, that
responsibility is placed onto law enforcement agencies and prosecutors. Once having identified a
suspect it is their responsibility to gather enough evidence to convince a court of their guilt
beyond reasonable doubt. An already stated above, the purpose of an adversarial system of
justice is not to get to the truth, the first barrier to a conviction is the lack of evidence. Once law
enforcement has a suspect and has collected all the evidence possible the case is put to the CPS
who will then have to decide whether it is likely a trial shall result in prosecution, and also whether
it is in the public interest to proceed. Once a decision has been

Women who partook in the sex industry were seen as dirty and sinful, which was the case during
the middle ages in Amsterdam. During this time period, sex workers were sometimes buried alive
while other women had their ears cut off for sleeping with another man. Even though prostitutes
endured brutal punishments brought on by other s beliefs, later in the 1700 1800s, prostitution was
seen as tolerable. During this time, Amsterdam was a booming port area. In areas that house many
transportation hubs and terminals, prostitution has a functional aspect of ease (Aalbers and Sabat
3). Due to the overwhelming number of traders, sailors, and ship workers, prostitution became a
social norm for travelers in Amsterdam. However, during this time, soliciting sex work and
brothels were illegal. A brothel can be simply defined as a place where customers visit sex workers.
Many brothels during the early twenty century disguised themselves as bars or parlors, which gave
sex workers the opportunity to accumulate business easier. However, since brothels were illegal,
most sex workers had to work alone or in shady situations. Although the Netherland s government
thought the prohibition of brothels would decrease the rate of prostitution and sexually transmitted
disease, the act became counterproductive instead. Typically, when you take on a job such as
prostitution secretly, then the risk for crime

The use of JIT will help the company increase their efficiency by cut down on wait time and
processing, all of which will translate to increased productivity and hence profitability. According
to Heizer Render (2011) employee training is vital to the success of a company, this is so true of
MICI, because of the extensive standard training and cross training of the MICI employees will
translate to increased efficiency, productivity flexibility, decreased wait time for customers and as
history has depicted, costumers satisfaction is integral to the success of a company because
customers are the major drivers in the market.
The layout strategy is another concept the book touched on, the new layout of the claims
department will allow for better workflow. It will also improve claims time, employee
empowerment due to the proximity of workers to each order and flow of work in the cell,
flexibility of the various equipment used by the company (Heizer Render, 2011).
Overall Ms.is using the fundamental principle of the JIT, work cell concept, the concept of
employees development, concept revamping and old system that is nonfunctional with the help of
the of experts and the people who actually work in the field. All of which, will hopefully increase
throughput, increase flexibility, reduce variability and give MICI a competitive advantage in the
market.

Why I Am An Effective Teacher Essay
Great teachers are rare, are you an Effective Teacher
It has been stated that teaching is a craft and a highly skilled craft that can be learned. What is
consider to be an effective teacher? To keep this as simple as possible I could name a ton of
attributes, but to name just a few I would say an educator that knows how to dress for success or
maybe someone that has their classroom ready for learning, or even someone that knows how to
create effective assignments for their students. Also a great teacher has a love for learning, has
high expectations for each and every one of their students and even collaborates with colleagues
on an ongoing basis. Chelonnda Seroyer spent two months poring through The First Day of
School and using it as a guide for organizing for her first day of school. When the first day of
school came, she had a script. She had a classroom management plan.(iii) Effective teachers are
supportive and understand the importance of why students need good teachers to have personality,
knowledge and compassion.
Teachers have a significant role in influencing the lives of young children. With this duty comes
great pride and pleasure. Therefore, all educators should strive to be good and effective teachers.
Teachers are people that can change the lives of many. Just by being allowed to sit in a classroom
that has been created to enhance the knowledge and intelligence of people can be life changing.
Effective teachers have positive expectations for their students

to grow throughout the 19th century, while at times uniting with the anti slavery movements in
order to fight for the ultimate right of voting. When the 14th and 15th amendment were passed after

In this case, it was absolutely necessary for women to sacrifice their needs and rights, because if
blacks refused to acknowledge the rights given to them, Congress might not have granted them

Many women agreed with this, including J Elizabeth Jones, an American suffragist, and abolitionist,
who stated, Shall the loyal disfranchised men... be kept out of their inheritance all that time,
because we are despoiled of ours? Some of them are educated, wealthy... shall we say to them stand

understood that they are fighting the same battle as the women and it is only fair that women wait
their turn and let the blacks enjoy their rights. Also, if the blacks were to not acknowledge their
rights, they might not be able to ensure them in the future. By Congress giving them the rights, the
blacks are not doing them any favors, rather Congress is doing them a favor that might not occur

Personal Statement Of Purpose In Journalism
I was 18 when we moved to the United States from Cameroon in 2010. I had always known I
wanted to be in journalism, yet had little knowledge of how the media worked or what being a
journalist even entailed. I had a passion for telling stories, and zero experience or hope that I would
someday be able to do so in a way that affects everyday people, and effects positive change. As far
as I knew, journalismwas the ruling government s tool for communicating what it deemed fit for
public knowledge, and stifling any information that remotely threatened the political status quo.
Only in the following years would I come to grasp the power of media and communication, in a
journey that has led me to this very moment.
In the summer of 2011 after persuading my father that journalism was my passion and not
nursing, I enrolled in Price George s Community College. For two years, I studied Public
Relations and Journalism. I learned about the power of free speech and free media. I gained respect
for the First Amendment; the bedrock for Watergate. Here, anyone could share their opinion no
matter how unpopular. This was new and fascinating considering the restrictive nature of my free
press in my home country. So the more I learned, the more intrigued I became.
Two years and an Associate s degree later, I transferred to Phillip Merrill College of Journalism
(University of Maryland College Park) to study broadcasting. There, I learned the tricks of the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Fuse
FUSES
I.E.E. Regulations define a fuse as: A device for opening a circuit by means of a conductor
designed to melt when an excessive current flows. The fuse comprises all the parts that form the
complete device.
An electronic device used to protect circuit from over current, overload and make sure the
protection of the circuit.
Excessive current in any electrical circuit can be hazardous and it is caused by overloads and short

Contains a length of filament which melts when exposed to an abnormally high current, breaking
the circuit.
Consist of low resistance metallic wire enclosed in a non combustible material.
When there is over current, the thin wire in the fuse melt due to heat generated by the heavy

RCD will not protect against a socket outlet being wired with its live and neutral terminals the
wrong way round.
RCD will not protect against the overheating that results when conductors are not properly screwed
into their terminals.
RCD will not protect against live neutral shocks, because the current in the live and neutral is

Advantages and disadvantages between fuses and circuit breakers
Circuit breakers are more advantageous compared to fuses because circuit breakers respond
quicker, are more sensitive and reliable and they can be reset unlike fuses which can only operate

meetings or teams influence collaborative working and cohesiveness during decision making and
conflict resolution. In order for the researcher to determine what variables are associated with
increased collaboration and efficiency, primary data, secondary data, and exploratory studies
should be used to develop an appropriate researchquestion.
Collaboration and efficiency are both desired characteristics within life and in the workplace.

teaches us to use our individual gifts to work together as one. The purpose of this essay was to

According to Cooper and Schindler (2014), qualitative research includes an array of interpretive
techniques which seek to describe, decode, translate, and otherwise come to terms with the
meaning, not the frequency, of certain more or less naturally occurring phenomena in the social
world. Tracy (2010) describes eight criteria for the research worthy topic, rich rigor, sincerity,
credibility, resonance, significant contribution, ethics, and meaningful coherence. The author
describes each of the criteria for qualitative research in the journal article as follows: a worthy topic
is relevant, timely, significant, and interesting; rich vigor uses sufficient theoretical constructs, data
and time in the field, samples, and data collection and analysis processes; sincerity is characterized
by self reflexivity about subject values and transparency about the methods and challenges;
credibility is marked by thick description, concrete detail, explication of knowledge, and showing
rather than telling; resonance of the research tends to influence readers; significant contribution of
the research provides theoretical, practical data that is useful; the ethical criteria for research
considers specific situational and culturally ethics; and meaningful coherence

To What Extent Was The Mexican War Justified Or Unjustified
Justified or Unjustified
Between two different people a fight over borders broke out in 1845. Some events that happened
before the Mexican War is, the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Another event was that Texas gained
Independence in 1836. Another event was the Annexation of the Oregon territory in 1846. The
United States did not have the right reasons in going to war with Mexico. The United States was
not justified in going to war with Mexico because they were land hungry, robbers, and law
breakers. The United States could have been justified, but there are many ways to give evidence
with being unjustified. So in my opinion the the United States was not justified. The first reason the

because they stole people s awesome land. The Texans did not care what they stole, sometimes
they needed something and other times it was for revenge. The Texans were very selfish and
greedy. They stole a lot of other things. They also were not following the rules and also breaking
the law.
The final reason the Mexican War was unjustified was because they brought slaves over the
border. The Texans crossed the borders without being invited. They also crossed the borders with
unwanted slaves. (Doc D) In Mexico slaves were forbidden, or illegal, but the Texans brought
they over the border anyway. The Mexicans were anti slavery. The Texans did not respect that,
they were happy that the Mexicans were unhappy and hurt. The Texans were breaking the law by
bringing slaves over the border, and the Mexicans did not like that at all. This evidence shows that

Edward Hopper, An American Realist Painter
Edward Hopper was an American realist painter born in 1882 in New York. After studying art and
many journeys, he had trouble getting famous and put on the art world map. But finally, in 1933, a
first installation is dedicated to him at the MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) in New York. His
works are mainly inspired by his journeys, trips to different places and the solitude of the American
in the twentieth century. Nighthawksis his most famous piece of art (Laura Herail, blog). After
researching and looking at many of his paintings, this artwork portrays sadness and yet it is not
a sad picture. It could be something enticing and yet charming about anonymous diners. The lack
of domesticity offering a relief what can be the full comfort of home. It may be easier to give
away to sadness here than in a cozy living room with wallpaper and framed pictures. Home often
appears to have betrayed Hopper s characters, something has happened there that forces them out
into the night and on to the road. The 24 hour diner is a sanctuary for those who for some reason
or another have failed to find there place in the normal world of relationships or community.
Hopper s ability to portray solitude comes from his own familiarity with it. He lead comfortable
middle class childhood as a son of a merchant, yet inside Hopper often felt a little bit awkward
like an outsider. Hoping for a while to be an artist and yet his parents insisted he trains in
commercial art to keep afloat financially. He hated

Notes on Art History
Note: This statue of an Ancient Egyptian woman clearly shows the way of dressing in Ancient
Egypt. This statue belongs to the New Kingdome period.
Body: The woman is wearing a kalasiris, a typical ancient Egyptian dress. The length of the dress
tells us that this woman probably belonged to the upper class, as working woman mostly wore a
kalasiris in a shorter variant. The dress is made of linen, which was perfect for Egypt s hot climate.
The dress is undecorated, but does have a lot of pleats going in various directions, which must have
been very labour intensive.
Head: The woman is wearing a wig, made of human hair or date palm fibres. The hair is curled and
was kept together by wax. The wigs were only worn by wealthy people. ... Show more content on

important social differences. Agustus, being an emperor is therefore a clear example of how
people of higher social status would wear their clothes.

man. It consists of two pieces of rectangular fabric, one set on top of the other. It was sewn
together at the sides and the top wit holes left for the head and arms. This tunica has long and wide
sleeves. On top of the tunica, Augustus wears a toga. A long cloak which is draped around the body.

interact with certain minerals. It was agreed that the project would be a joint effort of three
laboratories: (1) Materials, (2) Chemistry, and (3) Electromagnetic. The first two laboratories
were in the Physical Sciences Division, and the last was in the Electronics Division. Denby
proposed that the contract be open ended, with a level of effort to be determined. Agreement
was quickly reached on the content of the proposal. Denby emphasized to the group that an early
start was essential if Exco were to remain ahead of its competition. After the meeting Lacy, who
was to have overall responsibility for the project, discussed the choice of project leader with
Davidson. Davidson proposed Alan North, a 37 year old chemist who had had experience as a
project leader on several projects. North had impressed Davidson at the pre proposal meeting and
seemed well suited to head the interdisciplinary team. Lacy agreed. Lacy regretted that Dr. Ross

Defining Marriage
Maria Hernandez
Professor Ali
English 1302
28 February 2010
Defining Marriage I take thee to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better for worse,
for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part,
according to God s holy ordinance and thereto I give thee my troth. With this ring, I thee wed,
with my body I thee worship, and with all my worldly goods I thee endow (The Book of
Common Prayer, 423). This is one of the famous wedding vows that people around the world use
to get married. But what does marriage mean? What does for better or for worse and till death do
us part signify? According to several dictionaries, marriage is the formal union of a man and a
woman, by which they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The power of pooling has great benefits as couples often only need one house, one set of furniture
and appliances, plus they can also share gas and electricity. However, this new view of cohabitation
also carries an emphasis on personal and financial independence (Waite 46). This means that
couples are only willing to go fifty fifty on things like money and time. It is evident that this
unwillingness to financially support or spend more time with their partner often causes this kind
of relationships to fail. In the other hand, when marriage involves giving a hundred percent of
what the couple has to offer, the results are different. To further analyze this point, Waite writes in
her book that when married couples pool all of their money together, they are also showing a
financial union that is one of the cornerstones of what Americans mean by marriage (41). This is
evident in a married couple that rely on the wife to manage the spending and savings on the
household, while the husband turns over his check to the wife. This kind of commitment helps
them manage money easier and evading problems that the cohabitation couple would have. All in
all, to find the meaning of marriage today requires a more thoughtful and inspirational approach.
Furthermore, the meaning of marriage is changing with today s high pace and individualistic life
style. People now days expect a quick high level of

Kant’s Aesthetic Theory and the Problem of Particularity...
Kant s Aesthetic Theory and the Problem of Particularity
ABSTRACT: In moving away from the objective, property based theories of earlier periods to a
subject based aesthetic, Kant did not intend to give up the idea that judgments of beauty are
universalizable. Accordingly, the Deduction of Judgments of Taste (KU, В§ 38) aims to show how
reflective aesthetic judgments can be imputed a priori to all human subjects. The Deduction is not
successful: Kant manages only to justify the imputation of the same form of aesthetic experience to
everyone; he does not show that this experience will universally occur in response to the same
objects. This is what I call Kant s Problem of Particularity. After critiquing Anthony Savile s attempt

In moving away from the objective property based or perfectionist theories of the medieval and
early modern periods to this sort of subject based aesthetic, Kant did not intend to give up the idea
that judgments of beauty are universalizable. Accordingly, much of the first part of the Critique is
given to showing how one person s reflective aesthetic judgments can be legitimately imputed to or
expected from all properly situated human subjects.(3) The famous Deduction of Judgments of
Taste (В§ 38) provides a sketch of this argument. Very briefly, Kant argues that since the faculties
under consideration are required for possible cognition as such, it follows that all who (through
communicating with others reveal their ability to) cognize anything are susceptible to the same
experience of faculties in free harmony, and to the concomitant aesthetic pleasure. As long as the
subject takes himself to be conscientiously beholding the object under appropriate circumstances
(e.g. without interest, prejudice, etc.) he can take his judgment of taste to imply in an a priori
fashion that under similar circumstances other well functioning human beings likewise will be
pleased by it.(4)
Whether or not this Deduction is successful in any regard, it certainly does not achieve all of the
aims that Kant sets for it. For, as Paul Guyer argues, the fact that everyone is possessed of faculties
which make them capable of unifying manifolds under

Devastating Effects of the Oleoducto de Crudos Pesados Essay
Devastating Effects of the Oleoducto de Crudos Pesados
Although relatively small in size, Ecuador is one of the most biologically diverse nations in the
world. A drastic range of altitude and geographical diversity in such a small area has resulted in a
high number of diverse climactic regions. Because of their very different climates and altitudes,
Ecuador s four main regions, the lowland Pacific Coast, the Andes Mountains, the Amazon
rainforest, and the Galapagos Islands, are each home to a wide variety of plant and animal
species. These many distinct ecosystems and the hundreds of endemic species residing within
Ecuador s borders have led scientists to classify it as a biodiversity hotspot .

However, the environmental effects caused by the oil industry in Ecuador are not limited to the
Amazon region. The construction of the OCP (heavy crude oil pipeline) threatens many of the
nation s other fragile ecosystems. The pipeline, which would connect oil sources in the Amazon
with the ocean port and refineries of Esmeraldas on the Pacific Coast, runs over the Andes
through various protected areas and reserves and regions of high tourism activity. (OCP alert, 2)
The high range of altitudes (up to 6300 meters) of the Andes, through which the pipeline will run,
provides fragile and diverse habitats for a variety of plants and animals. Also, the many isolated
areas of the Andean region have led to the evolution of an unusually large number of endemic
species.
The pipeline will traverse the extremely unique ecosystem of the Andean paramo. The high
altitude paramo region begins at the upper edge of the mountain forests and extends as high as
the glacier line of about 5000 meters. The paramo is characterized by a harsh, high altitude
climate. It is generally cold and dry (although some areas can be swampy), and supports low
lying vegetation like shrubs and grasses. (High Altitude Paramo, no page) The paramo is
important to other ecosystems of Ecuador because of its role as a water source. Melted ice from
glaciers is filtered by grasses and collects in the paramo s many lakes. This region is inhabited
almost exclusively by marginalized indigenous

  • 4. Little Miss Sunshine By Michael Arndt There are some families that love to win and influence their children to be the very best they can be. Little Miss Sunshine written by Michael Arndt is a warm heartfelt movie about a little girl named Olive Hoover with the dream of competing in the Little Miss Sunshine pageant in California. Olive is part of a very dysfunctional family which includes the supportive mother Sherrill, the determined father Richard, quiet brother Dwayne, crazy grandfather Edwin, and the suicidal uncle Frank. The family members all come together a to bring the young aspiring daughter Olive to her dream pageant. The Hoover family does not live in the best conditions and are forever going through a constant struggle, but they try to make the best of things. The family all piles into an old Volkswagen van to drive from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Redondo Beach, California. The drive is not stress free and the family encounters a few bumps along the way. They eventually make it to the pageant and Olive comes to life on stage with her family s support. I viewed this film through the developmental perspective using Jean Piaget s theory of development and Vygotsky s sociocultural developmental theory. I will portray the developmental theory throughout the rest of the paper within adult/child relationships while using sections of the film and an article by Scarr and McCarthy with elements of the theory s, capacities of children using examples from the film and an article by Scarr and McCarthy, and ... In addition, the lungs and the bronchi can also be affected, causing inflammation and obstruction of the airflow resulting in wheezing, chest tightness, stridor, low grade fever, cough, and hemoptysis due severe damage to the lung tissues. Most common diseases of the respiratory system include; pneumonia, croup, asthma, bronchitis, laryngitis, and tuberculosis, affected disease location determines the signs and symptoms. Hereditary and environmental factors such as allergens and other irritants can be a contributory factor, especially in children. However, respiratory compromise occur as a result of incomplete airway development among this vulnerable population predisposing them to chronic asthma (Huether McCance, 2012). The purpose of this paper is to describe the pathophysiology of chronic asthma and acute asthma exacerbation, with explanation of arterial blood gas pattern during an asthma exacerbation. Also, explain how ethnicity might impact pathophysiology of asthma and asthma exacerbation. The diagnosis and treatment plan needed to relieve the presented signs and symptoms will be reviewed. Lastly, constructs two mind maps for chronic asthma and asthma exacerbation including its epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis and treatment. ... • 6. Organizational Culture And Its Influence On The... Introduction When a system shows the employees of the organisation what the behaviours should and should not be, shares values and assumptions, it is termed as organisational culture. These values determine the behaviour of the employees and also have a great influence on the organisation s performance. In 1980, Peter Waterman s book In Search of Excellence made the term organisational culturepopular. His book made the argument that organization s achievement could be ascribed to an organisational culture that was unequivocal, client situated, enabling, and individuals arranged. From that point forward, organisational culture has turned into the subject of various research studies, books, and articles. As opposed to a point, for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, a culture that enables personnel to come to a decision could demonstrate greatly impervious to a unified organisational strategy, hampering the leader s capability to authorize such a configuration. In any case, a culture that maintains the organisational structure (and the other way around) can be very effective (Mason Carpenter, Talya Bauer, Berrin Erdogan, 2014) The study of organisational culture is important and significant because it helps shape right decisions for the organisation and outlines the behavioural expectations from employees and also helps them interact with each other. Organisational culture also helps individual employees, groups and the organisation as a whole to manage the assigned work and tasks and meet deadlines. The attitude of stake holders towards the organisation, the organisations ability to accept change and the efficiency of work within the organisation is well understood with the study of organisational culture (Kenneth Desson Joseph Clouthier, 2010) Background Company s Profile The company I interviewed for the purpose of this research study is the world s foremost supplier of key engagement and enactment arrangements and has been a key driver of advancement in the gatherings, occasions, affiliation and important businesses since 1987. • 8. The Societal And Cultural Values There are different ways through which artists represent gender in their works. Whereas there are artists that represent diverse gender as people of dignity, others represent them with a lot of stereotypes. For instance, most male artists have represented women as money hungry individuals with lavish lifestyle. Consequently, the male rappers have in most cases objectified women and used them to portray their fantasy lifestyle. It is because of this kind of representation that this paper analyses 50 Cents Candy Shop. In this essay I will specifically discuss the societal and cultural values 50 cent portrays through his music and music videos. The essay will also explore the message that 50 Cent delivers to his audience and how it influences their behaviors and values. During his first few albums, 50 Cent portrayed a more Ghetto lifestyle. It is worth mentioning that his popularity was on the rise and therefore, his lifestyle did not reflect the rich lifestyle that he is now. The scenes and his mode of dressing and even lyrics at this time depicted a ghetto glam lifestyle. However, ones he made fortune through music, his lyrics changed and grew with him. Most of his music, lyrics, mode of dressing and even places where he shoots his movie reflects this fact. In his Candy shop, he uses women actors to portray his lavish lifestyle. The video begins by showing 50 Cent driving up to what appears to be a mansion. Inside the mansion, there are several women who are dressed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Unburned Vegetation Survey Results The percent coverage of the four types of vegetation was calculated using the data that we gathered in this experiment. The values for the f tests and t tests were also calculated in this experiment for the four different types of vegetation as well as for the DBH of species in burned and unburned sites. The percent coverage of woody vegetation in burned sites: 27.8125% В± 29.83%, is higher than that the percent coverage of woody vegetation in unburned sites: 15.25% В± 14.69% (Figure 1). Grasses in burned areas also have higher percent coverage than the percent coverage of grasses in unburned areas: 36.75% В± 30.01% for grasses compared to 5.125% В± 6.49% in the grasses (Figure 1). The percent coverage of annuals perennials in burned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The F test values in canopies (0.031271512) and sub canopies (0.005008424) are both below 0.05 so we can say with 92% confidence that the canopy structures in burned and unburned areas differ and with 97% confidence that the sub canopies vary between the burned and unburned areas. Unburned areas tended to have better developed structures of canopy and sub canopy trees because they were given more time to accumulate compared to recently burned areas which have recently undergone a disturbance. The F test value for DBH (0.022472008) is also below 0.05 so we also have to assume that there is variance in terms of DBH in burned and unburned sites. Unburned sites have larger trees (larger DBH) because these trees had more time to grow compared to trees in recently burned sites. Since the F tests values for the logs (0.076083352) and shrubs (0.340469754) were calculated to be above 0.05, we are not able to draw definitive conclusions on this data, therefore we have to assume that the logs and shrub structures did not vary within the burned and unburned sites (Klowden et al. 2015). Succession is evident in this experiment as there is an overall greater percent coverage of grasses, woody plants, and annuals perennials in burned areas compared to open space. Open space is greatest in unburned areas and there is more open space in unburned areas than burned areas; this is mainly because the woody plants in unburned areas store lots of nutrients within themselves, therefore having less grasses and smaller plants on forest floors (Dickman et al 2014). Five different species of canopy trees were identified in unburned sites compared to only three species of canopy trees identified in burned sites which allows me to conclude that there is more diversity in the species of canopy trees in unburned areas than burned areas. There may have been more types of species found in unburned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Changing Cartograhies Changing Cartographies Introduction According to Silver and Balmori (2003 48) Cartography, a term derived from the word for chart (charte) or drawing, has in recent years undergone a radical transformation. This was identified earlier as Anson (1988 ix) noted Today the art and science of map making is caught in the throes of a technological revolution which shows no signs of slowing down. However, advancements in mapping have been associated with scientific developments in mainly the computer and internet technologies. Prior to this, mapping had been quite primitive in a sense as Wikipedia (2012) states that cartograms were created by hand before Waldo Tobler produced one of the first cartograms aided by computer visualization. During ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cartograms, according to Wikipedia (2012) are maps in which some thematic mapping variable...is substituted for land area or distance. The geometry or space of the map is distorted in order to convey the information of this alternate variable. Computers alleviate the difficulties of cartogram construction Constructing a usable cartogram is challenging (Peterson, 2004) but fortunately computers are changing mapping in many ways (Monmonier, 1982 16). This is echoed by Krygier and Wood (2005 14) who point out changes in technology have always affected map making. 2 Computers can increase the value of the map as a decision making tool and different goals produce different maps (Krygier and Wood, 2005 1). They go on to say that the computer is fast and precise, and has a useful role to play in the production of maps. Computers and their software are the catalyst for map production. Maps are vital in development in the form of an important decisionmaking tool but without computers, cartograms could not have facilitated a rapid growth in cities after the Second World War. Gregory and Ell (2007 105) state that producing cartograms were a lengthy task for a cartographer and many subjective judgements (in relation to distances, positions and areas of features) had to be made. They go on to say that The advent of computer mapping through GIS has led to the reawakening of interest in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This story takes place in 2015 when your grandpa was 17 and I was 16. We were so young then. You may say you want to be older but when you turn my age you re going to wish time slowed down. Gosh those were such happy days if only I could go back in time to when your grandpa and I were traveling the world together but that s a different story for another time. Let s get back to the story now where did I leave off at ... oh I remember now. It was your aunt Erin, grandpa, your grandpa s friend Corey, and myself of course. We just got invited to the biggest Halloween party ever. The party was at an old abandon hospital that no one had been to in many years. Everyone at the school had heard stories about why it was abandon but no one believed in them. The story I heard was that the hospital was built over a cemetery which happens to open on Friday the 13th but they closed it down a year later because a demon would attack anyone that walk through those hospital doors. I guess it was a good thing they were at the hospital. *I laugh.* Your grandpa and I were face timing each other on our iPhone 6 (those are what we had before all the new gadgets came out) we were going over what costumes to wear so we could win the costume contest. Salinger s Nine Stories , there are two stories that indicate a death, and, remarkably, these two short stories are what begin and end this captivating piece of literature. The first story is called A Perfect Day for Bananafish and introduces a man who has been through the hell of World War II, which allows him to see things from a different perspective. The latter is called Teddy and revolves around a young, ingenious boy that seems to have a speculative mindset and very deep insight into life. In both stories the reader is introduced to a genius , but the geniuses, with all the potentials at hand, end up going mad and killing themselves. However, this proves to be Salinger s point. It demonstrates a fine line that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Seymour takes his own life, we backtrack to his story and he is then seen as a celestial figure, ahead of his time and full of wisdom. Metaphorically speaking, the bananafish ideology depicts humanity in the postwar boom generation, where riches surround all people. However, amidst all the possessions, we cannot help ourselves and we continuously and relentlessly consume, regardless of what may happen as a result. We are each trapped in our own banana filled hole, in which Seymour ultimately escapes from through his death. In the final short story Teddy , the main character is a ten year old boy who is as intuitive and intelligent as any character gets in this novel, with the exception of Seymour of course. Like Seymour Glass, Teddy sees the world differently than his peers. The two tend to focus their a lot of their attention on small details, such as orange peels, the colour of bathing suits, a woman that seemingly looks at Seymour s feet, and appear to mirror a larger scale vision of humanity. Teddy s orange peels recall Seymour s bananafish. Both their objects, in Seymour s case an imaginary one, are somewhat allegorical in a sense that they seem to suggest a philosophical portrayal of humanity. To clarify, Teddy first notices the orange peels floating and finds them interesting. The remnants of what was once a living fruit, now floating, lifeless on the dark water. • 14. The Digital Of Digital Master In this 21st century, becoming digital is very critical for many businesses across different industries. A few companies have found their successful paths by leveraging the digital aspects of the business. Those companies who have been successful in the digital world, regardless of the industry they are in, are referred to as Digital Master . Digital Master is company who has both the digital capability and leadership capability. It is also defined as having strong overarching digital vision, excellent governance across silos, digital initiatives generating business value in measureable ways, and strong digital culture (Westerman, Bonnet, McAfee, 2014). Among all of these characteristics, a compelling customer experience and core operations play crucial roles in building digital capability. This paper is going to elaborate on the successful stories of two companies, Burberry and Asian Paints, which have created both compelling digital customer experiences and exploiting the power of core operations (Westerman, Bonnet, McAfee, 2014). Firstly, there are three things that Digital Master does differently in creating a compelling customer experience: Designing customer experience from the outside in, creating reach and customer engagement, putting customer data at the heart of the experience, and seamlessly meshing physical and digital experiences in new ways (Westerman, Bonnet, McAfee, 2014). • 15. Martin Luther Splintering Of Religion Divine grace was a particularly prominent concern in sixteenth century Europe, it prompted the splintering of Christendom and was therefore responsible in large part for the subsequent violence. With the extensive conflict motivated by debates over the delivery of divine grace, it comes as no surprise that leading figures of the era harbored vastly differing opinions on the subject. Martin Luther, John Fisher, and Hans Staden, drawing from the exact same source material, came to drastically different conclusions regarding the bestowment, acceptance, and discovery of divine grace. Martin Luther s personal interpretation of divine grace differed so greatly from that of other christians that it facilitated the splintering of a religion. Luther s influential interpretation was formed on the basis of two claims made by St. Paul in his Letter to the Romans. First, a justified Christian lives by faith alone, and second Christ is the end and the fulfillment of all commandments for those who believe in Him, (Luther 22). Luther interpreted St. Paul s words to mean that divine grace is bestowed through faith, that Faith... will abundantly justify those who have it, such that they require nothing more to be righteous and pious, (Luther 22). The idea of being saved through nothing but faith resonated with Luther, a man obsessed with his own repentance, to the point that he visited confession several times daily (Smith). • 16. The Issue Of Popular Support The issue of popular support is further connected to terrorist group s specific objectives, or goals. In general, terrorists motivated by a religious component are often associated with apocalyptic like goals. Hoffman notes that these apocalyptic goals, are in nature more violent when compared to the often more tangible political based goals of many secular groups. The association between religiously motivated terrorist groups and apocalyptic like goals is well known throughout academia. Jessica Stern s book, Terror in the Name of God further references this connection. She is particularly careful not to equate these general end of time beliefs to one religion in particular. Instead she notes how such beliefs often span across multiple religions by noting their presence in various sacred texts across all three of the major Abrahamic faiths. She further ties back to Hoffman s work when discussing how apocalyptic like goals often allow for more violence and destruction when compared to other terrorist objectives (such as forming a new government, or expelling a foreign nation from perceived territory). While Hoffman notes the specific constituency that secular terrorists must appeal to, Stern ties the lack of a needed supportive constituency back to religious terrorist goals. Because religiously motivated groups often seek the complete destruction of society, these groups are less concerned with long term popular support, (beyond basic funding and recruitment needs.) ... Beowulf and Modern United States Essay Beowulf and Modern United States Many people who read the poem Beowulf would probably find it hard to find similarities between the poem and life in modern America. How could one compare an ancient Anglo Saxon culture with the sophisticated world that we are living in today? But, if we look closely, we may be able to pinpoint some parallel between the two societies. This essay will discuss the topics of warrior life, the bad guy, and social similarities. One might wonder how a warrior culture might be similar to our own? But if we consider American culture, we are actually still very war like. There have been anti war protests because people are not so sure who the bad guy is. In Beowulf, I felt that same idea. Even though Grendel is doing bad things, I don t think that he is so different from the humans. He is killing people for his own reasons, which is the same attitude I saw in Beowulf. Grendel is jealous of the humans and his inability to be like them causes him to kill those same people he envies. Murders are acts of revenge in some cases in the story such as the death of Aeschere by Grendel s mother for her son s death. Killing occurs in the story for very simple or petty motives. There is also a social similarity in the cultures. There is the same idea of people coming together to relax and talk while drinking alcohol. Many times the alcohol can lead to negative conversations. This can be seen in Beowulf. Unferth says to Beowulf, Are you that Beowulf who contended with Breca, competed in swimming on the broad sea, where for pride you explored the water, and for foolish boast ventured lives in the deep? (Norton 11) He is trying to put Beowulf down here, and I m sure the alcohol made it easier for him to say what it is he is thinking. In Beowulf, the mead hall is a hub for this type of social interaction, a way to relax from the pressures of the warrior life. This is very similar to American society now. Standardized tests have been around for hundreds of years. The test originated in the 1800 s. The test was created by Horace Mann. The test was to decide how students were mastering their current level of work and whether they should proceed to the next level. There were no negative consequences associated with the tests or scores. After the publication of the Coleman Report (Coleman et al., 1966), which took an in depth look into the education system and analyzed how the education system affected student achievement, the use of standardized achievement tests for accountability became the trend. It was all about everyone involved in the education of a body of students should be held accountable for the learning and teaching of those students. • 25. Descartes s Discourse On Method In his Discourse on Method, Rene Descartes asserts that all human beings are equal in their ability to reason and that any differences in opinion are not a result of a difference in ability to reason, but in the application of the reasoning. Descartes begins his argument for this claim by stating that rational thought and reason is what separates humans from animals, and that if all people have this ability to reason, then that must be the distinguishing feature of humanity. He goes on to explain that while individuals may differ within a species in regard to their non essential qualities, they will not differ in the species distinguishing feature. This rule accounts for the diversity within humanity as a species (such as differing hair colors, heights, and weights) while equalizing humanity s ability to reason. From these premises, Descartes concludes that all humans must have an equal ability to reason and that differences in thought are merely a result of differences in the application of the individual s reasoning. In Part V of his Discourse, Descartes continues his argument for reasoning being the essence of humanity by arguing that non human animals and machines cannot reason, and therefore reasoning must be solely attributed to humans. Descartes presents two tests to determine whether or not a being is human or non human, both based on the adaptability of the being s responses. He first asserts that since machines and non human animals cannot communicate via spoken ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By monitoring the exponential decay function of MC, we are able to construct a linear fit of the data, as shown in Figure 3, which confirms a first order decay. The corresponding rate constants were determined from the slope of the fit, and it was found that as we increase [SP] the rate is relatively constant. This compound itself has a different absorbance band relative to MC, which was found to be around 408 nm in acetone and 453 nm in cyclohexane. Because the reaction must follow this sequence MCH+в†’ MC в†’ SP, the corresponding rate of decay must be slower. As shown in Table 1 and 2, the decay rate with the addition of TFA is significantly lower relative to just SP in the solution. However, increasing acid concentration slows down the decay rate because more of MC is being converted to MCH+. Ergo, it will have a longer process to convert all of the MCH+ back into SP. Again, comparing the rate of decay of MCH+ at different solvents, it was determined that the environment did not have a drastic effect on the conversion. In addition, the average of the rate of decay was calculated for the first four samples and was found to be 0.00630 s 1 and 0.0243 s 1 for acetone and cyclohexane, respectively, which gave an error of 26.0 % and 40.3 %. This is an issue that can t be ignored. Nuclear weapons should be reduced in the United States because it s a danger to the world and could ruin this Earth and eventually its people. The United States can have fewer nuclear weapons without putting our nations security in jeopardy. Importance Of The British Empire The Cultural Importance of the British Empire During the reign of Queen Victoria, Great Britain was the centre of a global empire, controlling nearly one quarter of the Earth. Although only a small minority of the population of the Empire was actually British, British bureaucrats directly administrated it. Moreover, Victorian age is often referred to as the period of the Pax Britannica, since the territories controlled by the British Crown lived under a relative peaceful kingdom. Especially the motherland enjoyed peace and prosperity; the only wars of this period were the sporadic rebellions in the distant colonies, which, however, did not trouble the British citizens on the island (Greenblatt 1636 1640). He believed that: all the historical information which has been collected from all the books written in the Sanscrit language is less valuable than what may be found in the most paltry abridgment used at preparatory schools in England (Macaulay 1641). Macaulay s words reflected the Victorian perception that British culture was the most valuable, not because it was the most ancient of the world, but because it was the widest. • 40. Personal Statement Of Purpose In Journalism I was 18 when we moved to the United States from Cameroon in 2010. I had always known I wanted to be in journalism, yet had little knowledge of how the media worked or what being a journalist even entailed. I had a passion for telling stories, and zero experience or hope that I would someday be able to do so in a way that affects everyday people, and effects positive change. As far as I knew, journalismwas the ruling government s tool for communicating what it deemed fit for public knowledge, and stifling any information that remotely threatened the political status quo. Only in the following years would I come to grasp the power of media and communication, in a journey that has led me to this very moment. In the summer of 2011 after persuading my father that journalism was my passion and not nursing, I enrolled in Price George s Community College. For two years, I studied Public Relations and Journalism. I learned about the power of free speech and free media. I gained respect for the First Amendment; the bedrock for Watergate. Here, anyone could share their opinion no matter how unpopular. This was new and fascinating considering the restrictive nature of my free press in my home country. So the more I learned, the more intrigued I became. Two years and an Associate s degree later, I transferred to Phillip Merrill College of Journalism (University of Maryland College Park) to study broadcasting. There, I learned the tricks of the journalism trade; how to shoot, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After studying art and many journeys, he had trouble getting famous and put on the art world map. But finally, in 1933, a first installation is dedicated to him at the MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) in New York. His works are mainly inspired by his journeys, trips to different places and the solitude of the American in the twentieth century. Nighthawksis his most famous piece of art (Laura Herail, blog). After researching and looking at many of his paintings, this artwork portrays sadness and yet it is not a sad picture. It could be something enticing and yet charming about anonymous diners. The lack of domesticity offering a relief what can be the full comfort of home. It may be easier to give away to sadness here than in a cozy living room with wallpaper and framed pictures. The power of pooling has great benefits as couples often only need one house, one set of furniture and appliances, plus they can also share gas and electricity. However, this new view of cohabitation also carries an emphasis on personal and financial independence (Waite 46). This means that couples are only willing to go fifty fifty on things like money and time. It is evident that this unwillingness to financially support or spend more time with their partner often causes this kind of relationships to fail. In the other hand, when marriage involves giving a hundred percent of what the couple has to offer, the results are different. To further analyze this point, Waite writes in her book that when married couples pool all of their money together, they are also showing a financial union that is one of the cornerstones of what Americans mean by marriage (41). This is evident in a married couple that rely on the wife to manage the spending and savings on the household, while the husband turns over his check to the wife. This kind of commitment helps them manage money easier and evading problems that the cohabitation couple would have. Kant s Aesthetic Theory and the Problem of Particularity ABSTRACT: In moving away from the objective, property based theories of earlier periods to a subject based aesthetic, Kant did not intend to give up the idea that judgments of beauty are universalizable. Accordingly, the Deduction of Judgments of Taste (KU, В§ 38) aims to show how reflective aesthetic judgments can be imputed a priori to all human subjects. The Deduction is not successful: Kant manages only to justify the imputation of the same form of aesthetic experience to everyone; he does not show that this experience will universally occur in response to the same objects. This is what I call Kant s Problem of Particularity. After critiquing Anthony Savile s attempt to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In moving away from the objective property based or perfectionist theories of the medieval and early modern periods to this sort of subject based aesthetic, Kant did not intend to give up the idea that judgments of beauty are universalizable. Accordingly, much of the first part of the Critique is given to showing how one person s reflective aesthetic judgments can be legitimately imputed to or expected from all properly situated human subjects.(3) The famous Deduction of Judgments of Taste (В§ 38) provides a sketch of this argument. Very briefly, Kant argues that since the faculties under consideration are required for possible cognition as such, it follows that all who (through communicating with others reveal their ability to) cognize anything are susceptible to the same experience of faculties in free harmony, and to the concomitant aesthetic pleasure. As long as the subject takes himself to be conscientiously beholding the object under appropriate circumstances (e.g. without interest, prejudice, etc.) he can take his judgment of taste to imply in an a priori fashion that under similar circumstances other well functioning human beings likewise will be pleased by it.(4) Whether or not this Deduction is successful in any regard, it certainly does not achieve all of the aims that Kant sets for it. For, as Paul Guyer argues, the fact that everyone is possessed of faculties which make them capable of unifying manifolds under ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
