Juvenile Crime Is One Of The Country s Not Joking Issues...
Juvenile crime is one of the country s not joking issues. Worry about it is shared through elected, state,
and neighborhood government authorities and through people in general. In the United States, age cut
off points of juveniles change, the most extreme age being set at 14 years in a few states and as high as
21 years in others. The 16 to 20 year age gather, considered grown up in many spots, has one of the
most unusual occurrences of actual crime. A large degree of grown up criminals has a foundation of
early misconduct. Burglary is the most well known offense through children s; more genuine property
violations and assault are most as often as possible submitted in later youth. The reasons for such
conduct, similar to those of crime, as a rule, are found in a complex of mental, social, and monetary
components. Clinical reviews have revealed passionate instabilities, more often than not emerging
from confused family circumstances, in many delinquents (John T. Whitehead, 2015).
For this particular discussion, we will focus on three contributing factors that are linked to Juvenile
Delinquency. The three we will be discussing are, family dynamics, mental health and social class.
Social class
The social imbalance is an issue that causes hurt in a developing society. This issue offers different
qualities, however, causes stress and turmoil in the meantime. Societal position can adjust the way we

An Example Of Perseverance In Warriors Don T Cry
How many times in life have you struggled but got through a difficult time? That is called
perseverance. The definition of perseverance is Steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or
delay in achieving success. Synonyms are persistence and determination. It originated from the latin
word perseverare. Right now the world has been filled with natural disasters, from hurricanes to
wildfires. Everyone that this affected has been forced to persevere through it because there is not
much that they have the ability to do besides staying strong. In all of the nonfiction literature we have
read there were many different examples of perseverance from many different people. I decided to
choose three. For my first example Melba Pattillo Beals from Warriors Don t Cry . There is numerous
examples of the Little Rock 9 and her doing something despite difficulty. For the second example of
perseverance I chose Maya Angelou. Through her life there were countless times that she was faced
adversity and still achieved success. My third example is Earl Simmons (DMX) from the book
E.A.R.L . He went through a tough time at almost all time growing up and he never gave up and
achieved success. Perseverance creates success; therefore, when you stick through something you can
accomplish what you want. In the book Warriors Don t Cry Melba Pattillo Beals and the rest of the
Little Rock 9 were faced with racism as they were trying to go to a all white school. They all had

The Year 1000 By Robert Lacey And Danny Danziger
The Year 1000 by Robert Lacey and Danny Danziger offers a delightful, often astonishing portrait of
everyday life in Anglo Saxon England in the year 1000. This very informative book, describes what
life was like that the turn of the first millennium. The Anglo Saxons, a practical, self contained,
fervently superstitious people, were 99% illiterate, yet their language would become their most
widespread legacy. Compared to modern day times, people are almost the opposite from the Anglo
Saxons. There are many qualities that are the same, but also different when comparing the Year 1000
to the modern era of the 21st century. Within this paper, it will discuss about how the community,
lifestyle, advances in technology, politics, and religion were formed in the Year 1000. It will also
compare and constrast the Year 1000 to the Paleolithic and Neolithic era.
The Paleolithic Era (or Old Stone Age) is a period of prehistory from about 2.6 million years ago to
around 10000 years ago . There are very few subjects that are more controversial than the origins of
the human species. During the Ice Age, a race of people known as the Neanderthals inhabited the
fringes of the European ice pack . Because their remains were discovered in Neanderthal in Germany,
these people were known as Neanderthals. Neanderthals were slightly different then Homo sapiens.
They were heavier, stronger, and hairier then the Homo sapiens .The Neanderthals lived a very simple
life. They were hunter/gathers, and

Social Media s Effect On Society
People live in a world today where most communication takes place through a technological mediator.
One of the most common forms of these mediators is social media. According to an article by Patricia
Reaney, 62% of the population of 26 countries, including; the United States of America, Russia,
Japan, Indonesia, and South Africa use social media. That means that more than half of everyone in
some of the biggest countries in the world uses social media. The United States alone has over 300
million people, 62% of that being 186 million people. Anything that is part of the livelihood of that
many people should be looked farther into for any hidden dangers or benefits. How does this much
impersonal conversation affect what people s real world interactions are? How does it change their
mental thought processes? From message boards and private Skype calls to public posts and forums,
how do all of these affect everyone? There is no inherent good or bad to social media s affect on
everyone, it is purely situational and what people themselves make it to be. What exactly is social
media? The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines social media as: Forms of electronic communication
(as Web sites for social networking and micro blogging) through which users create online
communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos). Social
media is a very large family of applications and websites that all accomplish this same goal. It harbors

Comparing Ancient Cultures
The differences in ancient cultures are prominent. From different civilizations we see different
creations taking place. Through studying these differences we can see what is different between
civilizations and their culture, values and art. We are also able to study these and make connections
between them. Some items which we can compare and contrast are sculptures and relief sculptures,
paintings in the old, middle and new kingdoms, innovations of the new kingdom and basic
conventions early art endures. Sculptures are three dimensional art forms. Reliefs are as defined by the
text as, Figures or forms carved so that they project from a flat surface or stone background. (Ancient
Civilizations, pg. 13) Sculptures were used by many civilizations to create figures or forms in three
dimension. The egyptians used reliefs and sculptures in art religiously. They decorated their tombs
with them. They often represented the afterlife and what they believed they would be doing in the
afterlife, or major events that happened in their own life already. The egyptians created human sized

greatly. Examples of this can be the pyramids and the sculptures that were built for the pharaoh s.
During the middle kingdom the power of the pharaohs was still great, but the god s became more
important to them. Therefore, in their art they made them look more natural by giving them facial
expressions. Lastly, in the new kingdom, the art became long, thin and curvy which is different from
its successors because they were usually large, bulky pieces. The art also became more natural, as
well. They also began to build temples during this time period. Temples are areas of worship, which

Observation Of The Opera
The Austin Opera did an outstanding performance of Bizet s Carmen , on Thursday night, played at
The Long Center of the Performing Arts. Carmen is an Opera by French composer Georges Bizet,
who died suddenly months after Carmen s debut in Paris 1875. Bizet was a composer during the
romantic era, although he has other works Carmen is his most successful work and is frequently
performed in the world of operas.
I don t remember the last time I attended an opera but it was probably 10 years ago for a field trip in
elementary school. Attending the opera is something I see don t myself doing but I m glad I had an
opportunity to go.
The opera was conducted by Richard Buckley who has worked with many operas all around the
Unites States and overseas. I ve been to a couple of middle school and high school concerts where
there was a conductor and I ve enjoyed watching the conductors move their hands in the air, it was my
favorite part. During the opera, I would get distracted by Buckley s movements, you could to tell he
was so concentrated in the music. I m no music experts but from my point of view the orchestra
sounded wonderful and if there were any mistakes I wasn t able to hear them. The whole cast had
phenomenal voices but Carmen (Sandra Piques Eddy), Escamillo (Norman Garrett) and Micaëla
(Heather Phillips) had to be my top favorites of the night. Can you believe that there are people in the
world who can sing so beautiful in a different language and sing so loud that

Boeing and Mcdonnell Douglas Merger
Boeing and Airbus; two longtime rivals fighting over market share in an extremely volatile market due
to high research and development costs and constant changes in market demand was the cause for
Boeing to take drastic protective measures. Boeing which at the time was one of the largest
commercial aircraft manufacturer and third largest aerospace defense contractor decided to merge with
McDonnell Douglas. McDonnell Douglas also produces commercial aircraft but held much less of the
market share than Boeing. The intent of this paper is to describe the search and screening process

valuation criteria, analyze the negotiation and bidding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rolinitis (1997) The merged company will have approximately 200,000 employees which included
the recent Boeing merger of Rockwell aerospace and defense units. It will operate with estimated 1997
revenues in excess of $48 billion, making it the largest integrated aerospace company in the world
(The Deal).

Conclusion
The air craft production industry is one of the most volatile industries due to ever changing supply and
demand and high research and development costs. As the air craft market changed moving towards
more commercial demand and declining defense demand, it became in the best interest for Boeing and
McDonnell Douglas to merge into one joint company making them the largest commercial and
defense air craft production company. There can be quite a bit of issues concerning the merger of two
companies; some concern what is in the best interest of one company and others may include the
concern of not violating trade laws. The purpose of this paper was to describe the search and screen
process and issues; specifically legal, financial, and operational status, discuss the valuation criteria,
valuation and negotiation and bidding processes of the merger between McDonnell Douglas and
Boeing.

Psycho Analysis
The movie Psycho was filmed in 1960 by Alfred Hitchcock. The movie focuses on a woman named
Marion Crane. It starts when she steal 40,000 dollars from her boss to run away with her boyfriend. It
s late and she decides to check into a motel, the Bates Motel. At the motel, she encounters a middle
aged man named Norman Bates. He becomes morbidly obsessed with her. But he then kills
her...dressed as his dead mom. There is a show that acts as a prequel to Hitchcock s masterpiece; Bates
Motel. It is focused on Norman Bates and his mother, Norma Bates whereas the movie is focused on
Marion Craine. Bates Motel is a very well written show, with great acting, and is filled with a ton of
textbook psychology. There are very many different subplots in the show, but this paper is strictly
going to analyze Norman and his relationship with his mother. It goes very in depth about the very
troubling relationship between a son and mother, and how it led to Norman developing a dangerous
persona of his mom. You could even say that Norman has an Oedipus conflict. An Oedipus conflict is
apart of one of the psychosexual stages thought of by Sigmund Freud. He believed that during the age
of 3 6, a child developed feelings for the parent of the opposite sex. And the only way to get over that
feeling was to identify with his father. His Oedipus conflict would go on to never be resolved because
his father was abusive. The series starts off after Norman hits his father in the head with a blender,
killing him. His mom covers it up and makes it look like an accident to protect Norman. His father had
been very abusive to him and his mother. Child abuse is said to be one of the most common causes of
many mental illnesses. In this case, the abuse caused him to dissociate, or go off into his own little
world where he felt safe in. It was very traumatic for a young Norman and his mother. People who
tend to experience very traumatic things together have a stronger bond than those who don t. Norman
and his mother are so codependent on each other that it s toxic.
It is very apparent that Norman has a Dissociative Identity Disorder, also known as Multiple
Personality Disorder. DID is when more than one different, distinct personalities take

That apart, even though the presses will be covered under a three year warranty, in case there is
damage to even one piece of equipment during transportation, it will mean that our growth and
expansion project will have to suffer a major setback and we will have to face major delays.
Some positives for this supplier are that it will help us in commissioning and in case of any major
breakdown, Merakuri promises us next day service, as the company has a distributor located in
Regina. This in itself increases our confidence, as we know that Merakuri is a big enough fish to have
its distributor in Canada.
The rookie, Pnutype A total novice in the market, this company utilizes state of art technology. The
technology is so good that it produces excellent results. If Pnutype presses are acquired, it will give
our company an edge over our competitors.
There are a few drawbacks to Pnutype and its presses. This company has been making presses for only
two and a half years. Among all of the prospective suppliers for the new presses, Pnutype has no
proximal presence. Its closest presence is in the United States. Considering our top management being
high level of cost consciousness, Pnutype presses are, by far, the most expensive option.
It, however, has the reputation of its presses requiring zero maintenance. One company that uses
Pnutype presses provided this feedback.

Introduction of Marijuana
INTRODUCTION OF MARIJUANA INTO THE UNITED STATES The use of marijuana has been
an active past time for thousands of years, however, it did not reach the United States until around
1912. A wave of Mexican immigrants was entering the country in the effort to find work; with them
came marijuana. The use of marijuana was a normal custom among the Mexican people, but the White
Americans in towns bordering Mexico saw the use of this particular plant in a different light. Fueled
with racism and frustration associated with the lack of work for the American people, whites
proclaimed that the smoking of marijuana gave the Mexicans super human strength and transformed
those who smoked it into violent murderers. With the increase in rumors ... Show more content on

that society be protected by the threat of marijuana, and sought relief within the power of the federal
government. On June 14, 1937, the Marijuana Tax Act was signed into law by President Roosevelt
without any public debate, scientific inquiry, or political objection (Grass, 1999). The act prohibited
the possession of any marijuana unless one also possessed a marijuana tax stamp which was provided
by the Department of Treasury, however, in order to obtain a stamp act, one had to present to
authorities his or her amount of marijuana, which was illegal in and of itself. Through this extremely
misleading form of legislation, the Department of Treasury effectively made marijuana possession
illegal, and subsequently lead to hundreds of arrests. LA GUARDIA VERSUS ANSLINGER The
enactment of the Marijuana Stamp Act brought with it skepticism from many white Americans,
especially in the northeast region of the country. Those who opposed the Stamp Act believed that its
implementation brought with it the return of prohibition, an aspect of legislation they did not want to

Case Study On Strategic Segmentation
Thus, this research seeks to better understand the processes used by organisations in the development
of a successful strategic segmentation, as well as its impact and influence on consumer s preferences
and behaviour. The methodology initially developed was both quantitative and qualitative, by the
means of Triangulation. As developed by Hammersley (1996) and later on stated by Lee and Lings
(2008), Triangulation allows the researcher to mix both quantitative and qualitative methods, in order
to achieve a more exact and consistent result.
Based on this method, the research strategy developed was to collect information on British
companies, so to understand which communication and marketing strategies were being developed
when targeting audiences. Furthermore, this information would be used during the process of
collecting qualitative data over consumers of these brands. In the latter, the objective was to

A Procative Approach To Improving Minor League Baseball...
Under the protection of Major League Baseball s ( MLB ) longtime antitrust exemption, Minor
League Baseball ( MiLB ) has continuously redefined and reshaped itself according to Baseball s
overall needs. But while MLB salaries have increased dramatically since the MLB reserve clause was
broken in 1975, the salaries of minor league players have not followed suit. On February 7, 2014, a
group of minor league players led by former minor leaguer Aaron Senne filed a class action complaint
against MLB and three MLB clubs alleging violations of minimum wage and hour laws. According to
the complaint, most minor leaguer earn between $3,000 and $7,500 working between fifty and seventy

Once a player is placed on a club s 40 man roster, he is entitled to the minimum salary prescribed in
the Basic Agreement, which for 2014 is $500,000 for MLB service and $81,500 for MiLB service.
Historically, while the average minor league salary has risen by just 75 percent since 1976, the
average MLB salary has risen by approximately 2,000 percent thanks in part to union representation
and open markets. Regardless of the legality of the claims raised in Senne, MLB has an ethical
responsibility to change the current system to ensure that minor league players are not living in
poverty by fairly compensating them for their hard work, both financially and with other intrinsic
compensation. A proactive approach that balances the interests of players and the financial needs of
clubs can solve these issues while retaining the development structure that clubs rely on. First and
most simply, MLB should increase monthly salaries for minor league players. Having players paid
below the poverty line is embarrassing for an organization that produces over $8 billion in revenue per
year. To answer this concern, MLB clubs can take advantage of the colossal jumps in television
revenue to increase salaries. MLB can also help, perhaps using some of the $750 million added per
season by their new national media contracts. By multiplying the current figures by 2.5 (see Figure 2),
a structure is created that gives all

effect on espionage and counter espionage. The investigation s goal is to pragmatically assess the
experimental use of psychedelics, the results of the projects, and the conclusion of the experiments
and its effects on espionage. Print and web sources will be used to evaluate the experiments
significance. Two print sources will be used in the analysis: The Search for the Manchurian Candidate

The PSDA further requires institutions to document patient information and provide ongoing
community education on advance directives. (Ascension Health, 2013). An example of this Act is the
very popular Nancy Cruzan Case. Although Nancy was left in a vegetative state resulting from a car
accident, her parents were able to make the decision to have her removed from feeding tubes because
Nancy expressed before the accident that she never wanted to be kept alive from breathing or feeding
tubes. This Act really promotes Advanced Directives and hospitals, clinics and other providers that
receive Medicare or Medicaid funds to provide patients with written information about their right and
the information must clearly state the institutions policies on withholding or withdrawing life
sustaining treatment. (Santa Clara University, 2010). There is a positive impact on hospitals or clinics,
providers and insurers in that they are all responsible for giving information on the rights of patients
when they get admitted. Adult patients must be provided with written information by the healthcare
facility about decision making in health and this is based on informed consent. Personal Life or

Holistic Medicine Essays
Holistic Medicine
Holistic Medicine, commonly referred to as Alternative Medicine , is a vast and rapidly growing new
scientific field. It is derived mainly from ancient, traditional methods of healing that have often been
practiced in the East for centuries. These include a variety of techniques from herbal healing to
acupuncture to homeopathy to energy channeling. Due to the large number of methods that are
covered by the term, there are various definitions of Holistic Medicine. However, all literature seems
to agree that Alternative Medicine, is exactly what the name suggests: an alternative approach to
healing and medicine. It is a more personal move toward health care, which attempts to connect the
mind, body and spirit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An increasing number of medical schools are now offering courses in alternative medicine for their
students, and some hospitals already have alternative medicine departments. The availability of
healers and doctors practicing holistic medicine has also increased in recent years, and more and more
people are educating themselves in these new fields. In fact, the World Health Organization estimates
that between 65 and 80 percent of the world s population (about 3 billion people) rely on traditional
medicine as their primary form of health care. Because many of the treatments of alternative medicine
do not adhere to the principles of conventional medicine, whether or not to allow practice of these
techniques in the United States is a major concern of the medical community today. The Food and
Drug Administration is the decision making body of issues such as this and more often than not, does
not approve many of these practices. Due to the fact that holistic medicine sometimes contradicts the
fundamentals of biomedicine, health care regulation boards such as the FDA find it difficult to accept
many of these treatments. Because the Western world is so unfamiliar with these techniques it is only
natural for medical community to often disprove these methods. However, as more and more doctors

The Pros And Cons Of Sun Based Pokemon
Sun based Pokemon are better than Moon based Pokemon in design, abilities, and execution. By
Jeramie Fisher The sun and moon have always been a constant presence and source of inspiration for
human beings, ranging from deities to simply providing warmth and a beautiful sight to see. Humans
have always had opinions, some stronger than others, and today that topic will be discussed in
reference to a popular video game series, Pokemon. Now in order to keep opinions from being too
broad and contradictory The subject will be focusing on the Sun based Pokemon against its
counterpart; because face it every Pokemon is weak to something and for the most part Pokemon
matches are decided by what someone brings to the table. Execution, which is by far the most factual
way to prove that Sun Pokemon are indeed superior to Moon Pokemon, is placing them directly
against each other in an actual fight without the aid of others and seeing who has the upper hand when
facing off solo. The first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both are outstanding Pokemon in their own right, although when pitted against the other Volcarona
has the advantage because he is a ¨sweeper¨(Pokemon capable of powering up to one hit knock out

heal off any attack and stall the other team out with toxic or moves of its own). Aside from the paper,
rock, scissors method, Volcarona also has the type advantage in being a bug type while Cresselia is a
psychic type ( bug type moves are super effective against psychic types and do double damage)
(¨Volcarona¨). Volcarona not only starts off with base stats of 135 in special attack and base speed of
100 in speed, it gains access to the move Quiver Dance ( in one turn the Pokemon boost its special

Of Mice And Men Character Development
Character Development, Symbolism, Author s Message, Oh My! Of Mice and Men, it is not just a
band! Of Mice and Men was originally a short novel written by John Steinbeck in the 1930s.
Regardless of the shortness in length, though, it is a rather emotional book with quite a few messages
behind the fictional storyline. These messages, however, cannot be discovered right off the bat. To
genuinely absorb the messages the author teaches and genuinely understand the meaning behind them,
one must read the book in its entirety. Steinbeck educates readers about his ideas and messages
through various ideas and literary devices, which includes the development of the characters,
symbolism within them, and a bit of imagery to completely formulate the ... Show more content on

attack her, and after George finally made Lennie release his grip on the dress, they were driven to run

a young age, they love to reach out and grab a hold of items that peak their interest, considering they

he still does not know what exactly happens to cause his wrongdoing. For example, just like Steinbeck

as he does not recognize his own strength. He accidentally repeated his past mistakes, and injured a

Supernatural Elements Of Horror
Analysis of Horror Genre
Horror stories focus on creating a feeling of fear and shock using many sources. There are many
sources of horror besides monsters and there are more factors involved in making stories part of the
horror genre, including supernatural elements, hubris, and setting. Stories including the Tell Tale Heart
by Edgar Allan Poe, The Outsider by H.P. Lovecraft, and The Monkey s Paw by W.W. Jacobs include
these elements. In The Tell Tale Heart , three characteristics of horror stand out: suspense, hubris, and
an unreliable narrator. The first big element in the story is hubris. The narrator states, But you should
have seen me. You should have seen how wisely I proceeded with what caution with what foresight
with what dissimulation I went to work! (Poe 89,90). The narrator was proud of how well he was able
to commit the murder and hide it from the outside world. But then when the police came, he got
extremely paranoid and started hearing the heartbeat of the man and somehow confessed the murder.
Villains! I shrieked, dissemble no more! I admit the deed! tear up the planks! here, here! It is the
beating of his hideous heart! (Poe 94). Another important element in this story is suspense. He said
that he was going to kill the man, but he had to wait for the perfect moment to do so. He wanted to see
the eye to get him mad so he could actually commit the murder but it took him eight suspenseful days
to actually find the eye open. The whole

Analysis Of The Story Folie A Deux By William Trevor
The story Folie a Deux by William Trevor explores the complexities of curiosity and maturation. The
narrator, inspired by literary devices, details an important passage of the story, which portrays
lunchtime conversations between Anthony, his father, and Miss Davally, and follows with the
correspondence between Miss Davally and Wilby s mother where all involve the exchange of
information. The passage is meaningful because it demonstrates an appraisal of information, and its
impact on progress. Ultimately, the story suggests that information is arbitrarily powerful, and that
genuine maturation is only fostered through nurtured curiosity.
The portrayal of lunchtime conversations suggests information is invaluably powerful and depends on
human connections to establish a worldview. While everyone is eating, the narrator describes that
much other information (is) passed on at the lunch table , and details the questioned functionality of
aeroplanes , time , and spiders (132). The narrator s description of how information is situated at the
lunch table implicitly suggests human connections to be an important survival need, like nourishment
or lunch , and infers their interdependency. Through the phrase much other information was passed on
, the narrator conveys the abundantly distinct richness of information, which is inferred by the
connotations much and other . The description that information was passed on at the table signifies the

Persepolis House Essay
Ancient Near East has always been one of the major themes studied within Western Art. Many
impressive constructions characterize this culture: temples, gates, palaces and sculptures pieces.
Architecture and the development of large cities, such as Persepolis Palace, is a widely interesting
matter. This type of design provides the essential information on who build it, why it was build, for
whom and what it signifies to the people; it offers information of the communities thoughts, beliefs
and form of living. It was around 520 BCE when Darius I began the construction of the ambitious
Persepolis Palace, covering a 125.000 square meter. The construction of this, located in the Plateau of
the Zagros lands or Fars Providence, Iran, made the workers acknowledge many international styles.
To the people, it was a constant reminder of an entrance of all people. While grey limestone was the
main material used, other supplies found around the whole empire also helped with the construction:
cedar coming from Lebanon, yaka wood coming from Gandhara and Carmania and bricks coming
from Babylon. With great material used, the structure came to include courts, halls, and columns. The
Persepolis Palace, constructed by the great Darius I, expresses an internationalist style that establishes
the respectable knowledge of a powerful leader who depicted hospitality and the centralization of the
nation s government within the palace. By also tracing a historical and cultural background of the

asked a Washington Post female co worker to get them the office s worker directory since she used to

the directory listing and called them up. This is unethical according to the theories listed in our book,
first of they are using another s past relation in order to get papers for them, and second they are
intruding in these workers lives. The problem would not be that big if they just gave a call, but when
they noticed no one answered their phones they actually went out and bombarded these people at their

Their actions did not follow both Bok s Model and Aristotle s Golden Mean theories. One of Bok s
values on ethical issues is to have empathy for others, which Bernstein and Woodward didn t have.
They both knew that the workers were being watched after a few tries of door knocking and that by
them showing up and talking can cause these people to lose their jobs. They both still pursued on and
didn t care what would happen with those people. Aristotle s Golden Mean of making the majority

History itself is a diachronic science and constructing a true historical record coincidentally begins its
origins in the West. History starts in Mesopotamia and Egypt then somehow works its way into Rome,
then the text books, then the American psyche. It is this pattern, as opposed to the historical record
other countries keep, which Americans rely on. This goes side by side with the repetitive role Euro

Analysis Of The Book The Pursuit Of A Romance
The Pursuit to Discover
A.S. Byatt s Possession: A Romance establishes itself as a postmodern university novel because it
centers on the field of research and academia development through a campus setting. Roland Mitchell,
the protagonist of the story, is a postdoctoral and literary researcher who is more focused on academia
than job prospects, fixing his crumbling relationship with his girlfriend Val, and overall taking part in
mandatory obligations such as household contribution, that primarily falls on Val. The audience is
introduced to Roland as he studies: The London Library was Roland s favourite place. It was shabby
but civilised, alive with history but inhabited also by living poets and thinkers who could be found
squatting on the slotted metal floors of the stacks, or arguing pleasantly at the turning of the stair (4).
The novel centers on Roland s discovery of two letters written by fictional Victorian poets, Randolph
Henry Ash and Christabel LaMotte. Roland prides and invests the majority of his time to research and
decoding these letters, in hopes of pursing a top academic standing in his field. Possession focuses on
the themes of history, academic pursuit, and the downfalls of an obsession.
Foremost, in order to classify Possession as university novel, one must first understand what a
university novel is. In J.J. William s terms: Campus novels tend to revolve around campus life and
present young adult comedies or dramas, most frequently coming of age

Outline discuss the function of families in contemporary UK society
The definition of the term family has somewhat gone through radical changes over the past few
decades in the UK, some 30 years ago a family was defined as being father, mother and children.
Some referred to this as the cereal box family as this was typically the type of family to be shown on
television commercials for cereal. This stereotype is more correctly known as the nuclear family,
however changes over the years has meant that this nuclear family is no longer a typical family type
within the UK. This has proven difficult for sociologists to provide a clear definition or generalisation
of the term family and such difficulties will be explored throughout ... Show more content on

The Marxist viewpoint on the family revolves around a capitalist society and believes that the nuclear
family is not a functionally necessary institution, although it is probably the best suited. However,
Marxists believe that the family bases itself upon private property and profit, whereby men marry and
then have children to pass on their profit to and women simply marry the men for financial security.
Together, Marxist feminists also revolve their viewpoint around a capitalist society but focus more on
the woman s role, rather than heirs and profit. They believe that the woman s primary role is based
within the home and therefore can be exploited as a source of cheap labour because she is dependant
on that of her husband s income. The woman, they believe, is a housewife doing home chores to
increase the father s ability to work and thus delivering more to society. Also, by nurturing and
teaching their children to become the next viable source of workers in the future, the woman is
helping society and saving on capitalisation costs. This therefore lays a foundation for their children to
be obedient later in life, punctual and altogether submit to their boss in later life, without the need for
society training these conformities, thus having cost nothing to the capitalist.

  • 6. An Example Of Perseverance In Warriors Don T Cry How many times in life have you struggled but got through a difficult time? That is called perseverance. The definition of perseverance is Steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Synonyms are persistence and determination. It originated from the latin word perseverare. Right now the world has been filled with natural disasters, from hurricanes to wildfires. Everyone that this affected has been forced to persevere through it because there is not much that they have the ability to do besides staying strong. In all of the nonfiction literature we have read there were many different examples of perseverance from many different people. I decided to choose three. For my first example Melba Pattillo Beals from Warriors Don t Cry . There is numerous examples of the Little Rock 9 and her doing something despite difficulty. For the second example of perseverance I chose Maya Angelou. Through her life there were countless times that she was faced adversity and still achieved success. My third example is Earl Simmons (DMX) from the book E.A.R.L . He went through a tough time at almost all time growing up and he never gave up and achieved success. Perseverance creates success; therefore, when you stick through something you can accomplish what you want. In the book Warriors Don t Cry Melba Pattillo Beals and the rest of the Little Rock 9 were faced with racism as they were trying to go to a all white school. They all had courage ... The Year 1000 By Robert Lacey And Danny Danziger The Year 1000 by Robert Lacey and Danny Danziger offers a delightful, often astonishing portrait of everyday life in Anglo Saxon England in the year 1000. This very informative book, describes what life was like that the turn of the first millennium. The Anglo Saxons, a practical, self contained, fervently superstitious people, were 99% illiterate, yet their language would become their most widespread legacy. Compared to modern day times, people are almost the opposite from the Anglo Saxons. There are many qualities that are the same, but also different when comparing the Year 1000 to the modern era of the 21st century. Within this paper, it will discuss about how the community, lifestyle, advances in technology, politics, and religion were formed in the Year 1000. It will also compare and constrast the Year 1000 to the Paleolithic and Neolithic era. The Paleolithic Era (or Old Stone Age) is a period of prehistory from about 2.6 million years ago to around 10000 years ago . There are very few subjects that are more controversial than the origins of the human species. During the Ice Age, a race of people known as the Neanderthals inhabited the fringes of the European ice pack . Because their remains were discovered in Neanderthal in Germany, these people were known as Neanderthals. Neanderthals were slightly different then Homo sapiens. • 8. Social Media s Effect On Society People live in a world today where most communication takes place through a technological mediator. One of the most common forms of these mediators is social media. According to an article by Patricia Reaney, 62% of the population of 26 countries, including; the United States of America, Russia, Japan, Indonesia, and South Africa use social media. That means that more than half of everyone in some of the biggest countries in the world uses social media. The United States alone has over 300 million people, 62% of that being 186 million people. Anything that is part of the livelihood of that many people should be looked farther into for any hidden dangers or benefits. How does this much impersonal conversation affect what people s real world interactions are? How does it change their mental thought processes? From message boards and private Skype calls to public posts and forums, how do all of these affect everyone? There is no inherent good or bad to social media s affect on everyone, it is purely situational and what people themselves make it to be. What exactly is social media? The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines social media as: Forms of electronic communication (as Web sites for social networking and micro blogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos). It starts when she steal 40,000 dollars from her boss to run away with her boyfriend. It s late and she decides to check into a motel, the Bates Motel. At the motel, she encounters a middle aged man named Norman Bates. He becomes morbidly obsessed with her. But he then kills her...dressed as his dead mom. There is a show that acts as a prequel to Hitchcock s masterpiece; Bates Motel. It is focused on Norman Bates and his mother, Norma Bates whereas the movie is focused on Marion Craine. Bates Motel is a very well written show, with great acting, and is filled with a ton of textbook psychology. There are very many different subplots in the show, but this paper is strictly going to analyze Norman and his relationship with his mother. It goes very in depth about the very troubling relationship between a son and mother, and how it led to Norman developing a dangerous persona of his mom. You could even say that Norman has an Oedipus conflict. An Oedipus conflict is apart of one of the psychosexual stages thought of by Sigmund Freud. He believed that during the age of 3 6, a child developed feelings for the parent of the opposite sex. And the only way to get over that feeling was to identify with his father. His Oedipus conflict would go on to never be resolved because his father was abusive. The series starts off after Norman hits his father in the head with a blender, killing him. His mom covers it up and makes it look like an accident to protect Norman. His father had been very abusive to him and his mother. Child abuse is said to be one of the most common causes of many mental illnesses. In this case, the abuse caused him to dissociate, or go off into his own little world where he felt safe in. It was very traumatic for a young Norman and his mother. People who tend to experience very traumatic things together have a stronger bond than those who don t. Historically, while the average minor league salary has risen by just 75 percent since 1976, the average MLB salary has risen by approximately 2,000 percent thanks in part to union representation and open markets. A proactive approach that balances the interests of players and the financial needs of clubs can solve these issues while retaining the development structure that clubs rely on. By Jeramie Fisher The sun and moon have always been a constant presence and source of inspiration for human beings, ranging from deities to simply providing warmth and a beautiful sight to see. Humans have always had opinions, some stronger than others, and today that topic will be discussed in reference to a popular video game series, Pokemon. Now in order to keep opinions from being too broad and contradictory The subject will be focusing on the Sun based Pokemon against its counterpart; because face it every Pokemon is weak to something and for the most part Pokemon matches are decided by what someone brings to the table. Execution, which is by far the most factual way to prove that Sun Pokemon are indeed superior to Moon Pokemon, is placing them directly against each other in an actual fight without the aid of others and seeing who has the upper hand when facing off solo. Aside from the paper, rock, scissors method, Volcarona also has the type advantage in being a bug type while Cresselia is a psychic type ( bug type moves are super effective against psychic types and do double damage) (¨Volcarona¨). Of Mice and Men was originally a short novel written by John Steinbeck in the 1930s. Regardless of the shortness in length, though, it is a rather emotional book with quite a few messages behind the fictional storyline. These messages, however, cannot be discovered right off the bat. To genuinely absorb the messages the author teaches and genuinely understand the meaning behind them, one must read the book in its entirety. Steinbeck educates readers about his ideas and messages through various ideas and literary devices, which includes the development of the characters, symbolism within them, and a bit of imagery to completely formulate the ... Eventually, Lennie does learn that what he does is wrong, but he still does not know what exactly happens to cause his wrongdoing. • 26. Supernatural Elements Of Horror Analysis of Horror Genre Horror stories focus on creating a feeling of fear and shock using many sources. There are many sources of horror besides monsters and there are more factors involved in making stories part of the horror genre, including supernatural elements, hubris, and setting. Stories including the Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe, The Outsider by H.P. Lovecraft, and The Monkey s Paw by W.W. Jacobs include these elements. In The Tell Tale Heart , three characteristics of horror stand out: suspense, hubris, and an unreliable narrator. The first big element in the story is hubris. The narrator states, But you should have seen me. You should have seen how wisely I proceeded with what caution with what foresight with what dissimulation I went to work! (Poe 89,90). The narrator was proud of how well he was able to commit the murder and hide it from the outside world. But then when the police came, he got extremely paranoid and started hearing the heartbeat of the man and somehow confessed the murder. Villains! I shrieked, dissemble no more! I admit the deed! tear up the planks! here, here! It is the beating of his hideous heart! (Poe 94). Another important element in this story is suspense. He said that he was going to kill the man, but he had to wait for the perfect moment to do so. He wanted to see the eye to get him mad so he could actually commit the murder but it took him eight suspenseful days to actually find the eye open. The whole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Analysis Of The Story Folie A Deux By William Trevor The story Folie a Deux by William Trevor explores the complexities of curiosity and maturation. The narrator, inspired by literary devices, details an important passage of the story, which portrays lunchtime conversations between Anthony, his father, and Miss Davally, and follows with the correspondence between Miss Davally and Wilby s mother where all involve the exchange of information. The passage is meaningful because it demonstrates an appraisal of information, and its impact on progress. Ultimately, the story suggests that information is arbitrarily powerful, and that genuine maturation is only fostered through nurtured curiosity. The portrayal of lunchtime conversations suggests information is invaluably powerful and depends on human connections to establish a worldview. While everyone is eating, the narrator describes that much other information (is) passed on at the lunch table , and details the questioned functionality of aeroplanes , time , and spiders (132). The narrator s description of how information is situated at the lunch table implicitly suggests human connections to be an important survival need, like nourishment or lunch , and infers their interdependency. Architecture and the development of large cities, such as Persepolis Palace, is a widely interesting matter. This type of design provides the essential information on who build it, why it was build, for whom and what it signifies to the people; it offers information of the communities thoughts, beliefs and form of living. It was around 520 BCE when Darius I began the construction of the ambitious Persepolis Palace, covering a 125.000 square meter. The construction of this, located in the Plateau of the Zagros lands or Fars Providence, Iran, made the workers acknowledge many international styles. To the people, it was a constant reminder of an entrance of all people. While grey limestone was the main material used, other supplies found around the whole empire also helped with the construction: cedar coming from Lebanon, yaka wood coming from Gandhara and Carmania and bricks coming from Babylon. With great material used, the structure came to include courts, halls, and columns. The Marxist viewpoint on the family revolves around a capitalist society and believes that the nuclear family is not a functionally necessary institution, although it is probably the best suited. However, Marxists believe that the family bases itself upon private property and profit, whereby men marry and then have children to pass on their profit to and women simply marry the men for financial security. Together, Marxist feminists also revolve their viewpoint around a capitalist society but focus more on the woman s role, rather than heirs and profit. They believe that the woman s primary role is based within the home and therefore can be exploited as a source of cheap labour because she is dependant on that of her husband s income. The woman, they believe, is a housewife doing home chores to increase the father s ability to work and thus delivering more to society. Also, by nurturing and teaching their children to become the next viable source of workers in the future, the woman is helping society and saving on capitalisation costs.
