Gcse Application In Musical Theatre
And for some unexplainable reason, the crowd goes wild every time.
When dancers kick in unison, in one big wonderful line. (Kirkpatrick Kirkpatrick 2015) It is definitely
hard not to relate my theatergoing experience to this lyrics from Something Rotten! when I saw it in

Ancestral Lines Chapter 3
Chapter three of Ancestral Lines begins with Barker being taught how to paint a Tapa (a personally
designed cloth) by two elder women, as the process is explained Barker compares the Tapa cloth to
society composed of basic elements that fit together to produce a whole. (Barker 2017:75) Barker also
breaks down the three key facets of contemporary social organization: The socialization of children
into gendered adults, the formation of kin based groups and categories, and the formation of alliance
between groups through marriage exchanges and life crisis ceremonies. (Barker 2017:75 76) Things to
note about children in general and as socialized gendered adults: when a child is born, they are not
considered socially human and are believed to be vulnerable to attacks from spirits because their souls
are not yet attached to their bodies. Mothers are the main source of care. Girls are often put to work
first, assisting their mothers with cooking, cleaning, and caring for infants. Boys contrastingly help
their fathers with hunting, building, and protecting. While inequality is prevalent, women are not
without power and enjoy high levels of security and influence. They also believe that men ... Show

Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court as a Dystopian...
Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court as a Dystopian Work
For years, Mark Twain s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court has been primarily viewed as a
work of simple satire. Twain, desiring to poke fun at a group of America s cultural critics, chief among
them Matthew Arnold, who claimed that cultural life in the U.S. treaded on shallow soil, takes aim at
the venerated institutions of Britain. The author attempts to show that his country s lack of
romanticized social structures, meaning an absence of royalty, the Catholic church, and long dead
knights and princesses, was far from a cultural weakness. Twain explodes the myth around idealized
chivalric society and proves it to be no match for the Nineteenth ... Show more content on

Here, as in much of Tom Sawyer and most of Huckleberry Finn, he is a great novelist (DeVoto, 274).
The work devolves from its first chapters, however, and becomes something very different by the end
of the novel. A Connecticut Yankee s climactic, blood letting ending, in particular, stands out as
amateurish bungling by the author. Twain, in a burst of what seems, upon initial investigation, a
beginning writer s attempt to resolve a novel that has spiraled out of his control, kills off his
antagonists and finally his protagonist as well. It seems that Twain throws his hands up in frustration
and ends the action in an orgy of electrocutions and Gatling gun fire. . . . the book is chaos. Twain s
mind was not able to stay within[satire s] limits. His imaginative ferment demanded gigantic
expression, (DeVoto, 278). An alternate reading of the conclusion, however, allows the reader to take a
vastly different critical angle on the book.
When viewed through the lens of anti utopian or dystopian analogy, A Connecticut Yankee in King
Arthur s Court s finale becomes a grave prediction of man s industrialized future. Where Aldous
Huxley augured man s enslavement to technology, its intellectual and critical emasculation in Brave
New World, Twain s work can be construed to encapsulate the pending destruction of society s
innocence and idealism by

Lee Vs Grant
At the end of the Civil War, two great men found themselves in a bind. Robert E. Lee, commander of
the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, had a slew of wounded and malnourished soldiers, and
nothing to feed them. Ulysses S. Grant, commander of the Union Army, had resources to spare and
extended an offer of surrender in exchange for those rations. Lee accepted, and therefore forfeit the
Civil War to the Union Army. Throughout their four year struggle for victory, the two men underwent
many trials, and ultimately came to a consensus that the carnage had to come to an end. Although Lee
and Grant had drastically different approaches to the way they commanded their respective armies,
both went down in American History as heroes. Robert E. Lee was fanatic about the caliber of his
work and held those around him to extremely high standards, which led to his eventual downfall, and
decision to surrender at Appomattox. Throughout his life, Lee was noted as being incredibly dedicated
to his duties, and oftentimes even put his job over his family. Historians say that he held himself to a
very high standard and expected no less from those who served under ... Show more content on

Lee s legacy is held in some controversy. While those closest to him would remember him as the
reason for thousands of deaths, many politicians revered his efforts and praised him for his service.
According to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, we remember Robert E. Lee as one of our great American
Christians History remembers Lee as one of the greatest war generals of all time. On the other hand,
although Grant did win the war, I do not think his efforts are remembered in such great magnitude as
Lee s. Perhaps this is because he did not have to put up as valiant of a fight as Lee, whose army had a
natural disadvantage. Grant s army simply had more weapons and more men, which were simple
factors, but factors worth everything in this

Comparing A Perfect Day For Bananafish And The Secret Life...
A Perfect Day for Bananafish and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty have many elements that they share
very similarly, such as imagery. However, there are many pieces of these stories that completely
change the mood and thoughts towards them such as, symbolism and character foil. A Perfect Day for
Bananafish, has the most elements that are better than The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. A Perfect Day
for Bananafish, is a short story about a newlywed couple on a honeymoon in New York after WWII.
The story introduces us to the characters Muriel, the wife who is obsessed and is always shown with
some type of material, Seymour, a war veteran, and Sybil, a little girl. The story centers around about
Seymour and Sybil and the bananafish in the ocean. And in the bitter end; the suicide of Seymour
Glass. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, is a short story, about a man named Mr. Mitty running errands
for his wife and experiencing strange and serious fantasies of a much stronger, more important Mr.
Mitty. A Perfect Day for Bananafish has more examples of the literary elements than The Secret Life
of Walter Mitty, some of these elements include symbolism, character foil, and imagery.
A Perfect Day for Bananafish, follows the characters Seymour and Sybil and their quest for
bananafish. In the very beginning when we learn of the honeymoon of the Glass s, to the very end of
the quickly and grizzly death of Seymour Glass, the imagery in A Perfect Day for Bananafish help set

The Phenomenon
Hockey is the toughest sport in the world. Moving up in divisions is a big deal. Hockey rivalries are
the most heated in all of sports. When I turned 15 on January 28th 2014, I was instantly moved up to
the 16u AAA Minor hockey team for the Junior Kings. I was nervous to be playing for a new
organization and didn t know what to expect. I went in blind, feeling slightly scared. I was a new and
upcoming player on an already established and a great team. It was hard joining a team where I was
the new kid and was instantly put ahead of some others. Wayne Gretzky said, You miss 100% of the
shots you don t take. What Gretzky meant by this is if an opportunity presents ... Show more content

My hockey abilities increased and I progressively got better. I started to keep going up in divisions
and eventually, at age 10, I was already playing for a 13u team. I was the smallest kid on my team and
I felt like an ant to the bigger kids. Although I was the smallest, I was the fastest and the quickest. I
felt like a mouse moving in and out of the defenders and quickly moving for point A to point B.
Playing in a higher age group, I felt challenged and was up to the test. Throughout my first season on
the team, I tallied 10 goals in 8 games and started to gain recognition. I was immediately approached
by other club teams wanted me to play for them such as the Jr. Kings and the Jr. Ducks. I felt on top of
the world, like a just won a Super Bowl. A short while after a few more games, I had an interview with
the Jr. Kings. I remember the day I walked into the interview very clearly, it was raining outside yet
the sun was out. Throughout the interview, the coach asked a series of questions such as, would I be a
good fit on the team and if I had ever considered of playing for them. Overall, he asked many
questions about me and my hockey career but what stood out the most, was when he told me I had
such potential that he could see me playing for the kings.
After the interview, I took the idea of playing in the NHL to heart. I know a lot of people can lie and
say something to make someone else feel good but the way

Baldwin and the Nation of Islam Essay
Baldwin and the Nation of Islam The Nation of Islam impacted many African American people during
its time. This Black Muslim nation not only requested, but demanded and required basic teachings
which included racial separation, white devilry, and the coming Armageddon. None of these basic
teachings supported James Baldwin s perceptions. It was Baldwin s view of pitying the white man for
their lack of not being able to see through the color line and to embrace differences that whites and
blacks held together to create a better, inexorable, and supreme nation. The Nation of Islam felt no
pity for the whites or, as they would call them, devils. Neither would the Muslims embrace their
differences from other races, but actually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, no the man who came into the room was small and slender, really very delicately put together,
with a thin face, large, warm eyes, and a most winning smile (Baldwin 323). Muhammad was a
regular man that merely exuded confidence. He had a powerful air around him, because he meant
every single word that escaped his mouth. As superior to the Islam movement, Muhammad helped
integrate the movement s demand within as many black communities as he could. He started out with
implementing a grocery store in a nearby black community with nothing but Muslim employees. Then
slowly came a restaurant and a bakery. Muhammad was well on his way to proving to blacks that they
could accomplish their own needs without having to demand [anything of] the white devil or resort to
him (Clegg 50). According to a New York Times article written by Peter Kihss from March 1, 1961,
the movements demand was simply Separation, not integration... land of our own (Kihss Negro
Extremist Groups). The black nation of Islam wanted four or five states to be turned over as payment
for 300 years of slave labor. This way blacks could more establish themselves as independent and
wanting their own states proves that the Muslims wanted to be politically separated as well. Elijah
Muhammad believed that Allah allowed the devil, through his scientists, to carry on infernal
experiments, which resulted, finally, in the creation of the Devil known as the white man (Baldwin

Entrepreneurs Are Born and Made
Introduction
Entrepreneurs are born not made
There are two sides to every debate, and the what makes an entrepreneur argument has raged for
decades with neither side able to conclusively prove their case. There are many who believe that an
entrepreneur must possess personality traits such as vision, passion and drive that are innate and
cannot be taught. Others argue that the skills of evaluating opportunities, motivating people and
operating a business are easily passed on to eager students looking to be entrepreneurs. The truth is
that both sides are right and it s time for a compromise: Entrepreneurs are born and made. Some
people may be natural entrepreneurs and immediately open a business, others will have studied and ...

Some psychological models assert that a proportion of our personality is inborn and permanent
(Hollander, 1971), that a psychological core at the center of our personality gives us enduring, inner
characteristics. Hans Eysenck (1965) suggests that our motivation and emotion are related to
biological differences in brain function and proposed that 75% of our personality is based on genetic
influence and 25% on environmental influence. Research by Peter Whybrow (1999) on identical twins
separated at birth examined how their different environments shaped their personalities. He found that
around 40% of personality should be credited to genetics, with 60% determined by outside factors.
It is widely agreed that certain personality traits are important to being a successful entrepreneur. If we
are not born with those innate characteristics, psychologists believe that we do have some ability to
adopt new ones or influence ourselves to a certain degree.
Another example of the need to be born to be an entrepreneur comes from a study conducted on of
more than 200 U.S. entrepreneurs by Northeastern University s School of Technological
Entrepreneurship where 61% claim they were inspired to start their own companies by their innate
desire and determination, rather than by their education or work experience (Taylor, 2006). Other
factors cited were work experience (21 percent) and success of entrepreneurial peers within their
industry (16 percent) and only 1% said higher

David s Greatest Sin
David, the second king of Israel, was the youngest of Jesse s eight sons. History celebrates him as a
skilled musician. Scholars credit him with writing much of the Book of Psalms. David, an ancestor of
Jesus (a.k.a. Son of David), also prophesied about the coming Messiah, won fame and renown for
defeating Israel s enemies, and built the temple in Jerusalem. But despite these distinctions, David
occasionally committed several disgraceful acts of great sinfulness.
Christians commonly think of David s greatest sin as his plot to murder Uriah and then marry Uriah s
wife Bathsheba. By far, a far greater sin was David;s unauthorized census of Israel. This command
was also evil in the sight of God, so he punished Israel. (1 Chronicles 21: 7).

receiving training and, thus using flow charts gave the group a graphic picture of the organization s

an increase in productivity in getting the work done effectively and by using the amount of more than

that the employee s were working on the development process which gained credibility for their

My Fear Of Thunders And Thunder
My fear of thunders and lightning
It is truly fascinating how children experience and overcome many fears as they are growing up and
learning whether or not something is scary. Astraphobia, otherwise known as the Phobia (fear) of
anything related to lightning and thunder, is one of them. It undoubtedly is one of the most
complicated things I have ever had to defeat. I obviously was afraid of lightning, but I realized how
ridiculous and even pathetic it could be for me. Being among my friends, leaving them and start
looking for a place where I could feel more comfortable and safer (a sort of shelter). Sometimes
hiding underneath a bed, covering my ears and even crying because acting like that is not logical to
those who have no phobia, I felt like abandoned. All of that because of something that occurs within
the clouds, far away. Overcoming a phobia of something can magically increase your self confidence.
Sometimes, it is what others think about us that makes us to think about changing. Do not fear, my
father always said. Before your teenage years, it will be gone. And he was right. According to

my case seemed to be particular. One of my most effective remedy against this fright, which had so

Utopian Urbanism That Forms Utopic Degeneration
From recent years, utopian urbanism connects with the so called crisis of modernist urbanism that
forms utopic degeneration. Utopia has developed to mean a community with a visionary system of
political and societal perfection, where cities that function to improve the daily lives of its citizens; an
ideal society, However these concepts are more often than not depicted as an impossible dream, yet
too bold, too radical to ever exist in real life. Some utopian visions are focused on new technology,
whereas others are on intact landscapes. In other occasions, some are based on new social orders, but
all were combined under a radical avant garde and progressive architecture. It is this, their new and
bold concepts that drive the imagination of architects and town planners. Although rarely realized in
full, principles from some utopian visions have been adopted in part and have had significant
influence on existing cities such as New York, Chandigarh and Paris. They are a catalyst for
generating ideas and new forms of thinking that leads to, for better or for worse the many innovations
in 21st century urban planning. Since utopian thinking can produce a vision of the future that is
achievable, what is the connection between having a vision of the future, whether achievable or not,
and utopian thinking?
The concept of utopia, derived from Thomas Mores, in his famous text in 1516 where he refers a place
as to both somewhere good and to nowhere. The connections between utopian

The Glass Menagerie Mental Illness Essay
Issue #1: Stigma of Mental Illness Both Williams and Gaita employs the stigma against mental illness
as a significant issue within both literary texts. Mental illness of the two prominent female characters
within separate texts, namely Christine from Romulus my Father, and Laura from The Glass
Menagerie is a prominent element in the story as it shapes the interpretation of the audience. The
employment of these characters allow the author to shed light to values and attitudes of which the
society holds against mental illness, irrespective of the time period. In The Glass Menagerie, Laura s
character serves as the victimised manifestation of mental illness. The unfortunate character of Laura
Wingfield suffered from anxiety and a limp on the leg . Her anxiety is made extremely evident in
Scene 2, whereby Amanda confronted Laura about her absence at Rubicam s Business College:
Amanda: Laura, where have you been going when you ve gone out pretending that you were going to
business college? Laura: It was lesser of the two evils, Mother. I couldn t go back there. I threw up on

Using bones, teeth and joints for reconstructing activity...
During an individual s lifetime the activities they involve themselves in impact on their many bodily
tissues. Markers for these activities are left in the bones, joints and dentition which is useful for
anthropologists as only skeletal material is left in the case of most ancient populations. Subsequently
much research has been undertaken in this area with varying levels of validity. In this essay I seek to
explain what information can be reliably gathered from skeletal material, it will focus on bone density
and muscle attachments associated with heavy workloads, joint wear caused by repeated processes
such as grinding grain, osteoarthritis and tooth wear associated with tool use. To aid this discussion I
will detail the activity changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Food gathering, butchering and carrying materials for fires and temporary shelters are all fairly short
but high intensity physical exercise. Subsequently in hunter gatherer populations there is a trend in the
archaeological record for higher bone density and greater cortical bone thickness in cross section
(Maggiano et al, 2008). The opposite is true of agricultural societies of the past. Activities involved
with agriculture are often slow, repetitive low load level tasks such as weeding, sowing seeds and the
picking and harvesting of crops (Bridges, 1989). These activities are mainly upper body activities and
are more commonly associated with joint wear and osteoarthritis, which I will mention later. Muscle
attachments are the sites on the bone where ligaments are anchored, these may become exaggerated in
individuals with larger than average musculature. Based on the crude argument that hunter gatherers
used leg muscles in day to day activities and agricultural peoples used their upper body in activity
more it stands to reason that the respective muscle attachments would be enlarged. Molnar for

Essay On Air Awareness
Currently there is a large amount of research based on the use of the system and its benefits, although
there is nothing in current research that shows the saturation of awareness in the aviation community.
Some of the current research highlights the great benefits of the system, including the mass gathering
of data to identify specific problems within the safety sector. Such as Cardosi, Falzarano, Han (2008)
research based on ASRS reports, where they analyzed 386 reports from the program database and
gathered data which yielded a lot of results on the contributing factors of pilot controller
communication errors. The data they gathered was directly based of the ASRS self reports submitted

By providing the users with its benefits of confidentiality and partial immunity, it draws people in to
report the problems that will be used for future identifications and research. Several researchers have
already used the data provided by the system to create further safety information within the aviation
field, although the amount of data the gathered was rather limited and needed a further boost, which
the ASRS system can provide if the majority of personnel are aware of its existence. Furthermore, a
majority of the research literature so far has all been based on the data that the ASRS has stored, but
almost no research has been done on the ASRS awareness within the aviation community. If the
proper research is done on the ASRS and the knowledge of it of the aviation sector, the field would
view a greatly increased input of data and create a truly preventative system that create an overall
safer environment. The current state of awareness of the ASRS system within the aviation community
is severely inconspicuous and under used. Through the proposed research, additional data will be
collected to clearly identify a percentage of people that are aware of the ASRS program and know how
to utilize it.
The proposed hypothesis of this research project is that the ASRS reporting system has a large gap in
the awareness and identification of the current system. To identify

Social Class Structure In America
The social class structure in America is generally divided into mainly three strata: The rich
constituting the upper class, the moderately affluent category comprising the middle class, and
financially and socially backward people who form the lower class. There are also superimposing
areas like the upper middle class and the lower upper class. The stratification is based on the social as
well as economic environments. Although these classifications and entry to these statuses are not
fixed, these three classifications give an overall perceptive of the social classification in the United
States of America. (study.com)
People who are deemed to be part of the rich upper class constitute the owners of manufacturing units
and they handle most of the country s private wealth by virtue of their enterprising nature. They keep
on increasing their wealth using the funds that are already available with them. Many people in this
category are key government personals, hefty entrepreneurs, or chief executives of organizations.
They manage an enormous amount of wealth and have control over the national economy. They work
on the principle that income is the earning or similar revenue that is periodically received; on the

During the last several years America witnessed a scenario in which the volume of the rich is
drastically increasing. This happened at the cost of a breakdown in the volume of middle class and an
increase in the volume of the poor. The most commonly used tool for measuring social inequality is
the Gini coefficient. This is a scientific approach to finding the spread of wealth in a given geography.
If the Gini coefficient is zero, it is a clear signal of perfect equality. If the Gini coefficient is one, it
shows that the wealth in that area is not properly distributed. Studies show that America has much to
improve in terms of Gini coefficient.

Milestones Of Information And Communication Technology
While education unlocks the door to development, increasingly it is information technologies that can
unlock the door to education. (Wims and Lawler, 2007). There are many definitions for ICT and the
most elaborate version by (Blurton, 1999) defined ICT as the: ... diverse set of technological tools and
resources used to communicate, and to create, disseminate, store, and manage information. These
technologies include computers, the Internet, broadcasting technologies (radio and television), and
telephony . Information and Communication Technologies are a networked system comprising data
processing and storage and retrieval of information (Herselman Britton, 2002).
Information and Communications Technology is not a cure for all educational dilemmas, even though
today technologies are obligatory tools (Guri Rosenblit, 2006). Information and Communications
Technology when effectively incorporated into teaching and learning ensures interaction between
learners and teachers, thus advancing cognitive skills development (Jones Cress, 2001; Punie et al.,
2006). Likewise, Information and Communications Technology has provided the tools needed to
deliver education to remote geographical regions (Guttman, 2003). The integration of ICT is
extensive, when looking at its existing widespread diffusion, especially among the young generation
(Punie et al., 2006). Many researchers believed that ICT creates three important milestones: a) access
to teaching and learning opportunities; b)

lower grade level then the person who does read often.
According to Teach Reading early, In the first six years, children learn at a much faster pace than at

Application Materials For Recruitment Of Ethnic Minority...
Dr. Martha Bernal focused not only on younger children, but students ages 18 and up who were
looking at potential colleges. She conducted a study to show that the pictures and information
provided in school packet materials mailed to prospective students had a large impact on the
likelihood of them contacting the school for more information. The article titled Use of Application
Materials for Recruitment of Ethnic Minority Students in Psychology questioned on page 818 whether
these packets are equally effective in recruiting ethnic minority applicants (Bernal, Barron Leary,
1983) as they are in attracting white applicants. The hypothesis explored the idea that programs which
stated a higher proportion of ethnic minority grad students would be judged as having a higher chance
of recruiting ethnic minorities. Specifically, Dr. Martha Bernal explored how clinical psychology
programs in the United States displayed diversity within the packets mailed out to prospective
students.
The set up involved mailing out a letter to 107 programs offered across the US which were accredited
at the time, in which a fictitious student requested brochures and other materials about the clinical
program offered, as well as materials on the number of minorities within the program itself.
Interestingly, the fictitious girl named Ana Acres did not state her ethnicity or race, allowing the
schools to send out information based on their own judgement and not the preconceived judgement of

Relief Of All Of The Special Needs
Need for the Study
If this research is never conducted, ensuring the evacuation of all of the special needs individuals who
need assistance will turn out to be a disaster in itself. If there is not a proper location for these
individuals to go to, this will lead to loss of life or hospitalization for some, and mass chaos for others.
There is a possibility that there are more people with special needs than available space or
transportation. There is also a possibility that even if there is available space or transportation, that
those with medical needs may not be able to be cared for in the facility provided. In order to find out if
this is the case in Santa Rosa County, the Emergency Management Department needs to find out how
many people need assistance.
In order to complete this research, Santa Rosa County Emergency Department needs to provide a way
to communicate with the special needs populace. To start off with, the method chosen will be a
questionnaire. This will consist of face to face interaction with the parents/caretakers of the special
needs individuals that are chosen by a non probability sample. According to van Thiel, a sample is a
selection from the total population of possible units of study (van Thiel, pg. 46). Within the non
probability sample, a purposeful approach will be utilized. Doing so, the people chose will only be
from the special needs populace.
The people conducting the questionnaire s will need to have specialized training

The Socratic Citizen
Assignment I: Is Socrates a good citizen? Discuss with reference to the Apology and the Crito.
The Socratic Citizen
Plato s Socrates is a character plagued and prized with contradictions. He professed to care for nothing
so much as virtue and human excellence but was incriminated by the greatest and most open
democracy in ancient history. He was wrongfully convicted, yet unwilling to avoid his unjust
execution. He is at once the most Athenian, citizenly, patriotic, and other regarding of philosophers
and yet the most critical and self regarding of Athenians. In exploring that contradiction, between
Socrates the loyal Athenian citizen and Socrates the philosophical critic of Athenian society, Aristotle
s Politics comes to mind: the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He presents himself as a human being of unparalleled piety and devotion who will risk life itself rather
than abandon the duty that has been given to him.
Socrates claims to be a selfless benefactor of the polis in that he had exhausted his private resources in
the pursuit of the public good (23b c, 30a, 31a c). Because he does what is good for his fellow citizens
for whom he feels regard despite the danger to which this exposes him, Socrates claims to be a
benefactor of the Athenians. He refers with pride to his record of military service and underlines that it
was service to the democracy: When the commanders that you elected to command me stationed me at
Potidaea and Amphipolis and Delion, I remained there like anyone else, and ran the risk of death
(28e). He is an honorable citizen who disregards death and preaches that The difficulty, my friends, is
not to avoid death, but to avoid unrighteousness; for that runs faster than death. He has demonstrated
that he is, by his own right, a patriotic citizen who cares deeply about the good of his polis and one
who consistently acts in what he sees as his city s best interests; but he has also shown also that, in
light of his own definition of patriotism, Socrates must be regarded as a uniquely patriotic Athenian.
Unlike the Apology, the Crito seems intended to exhibit the character of Socrates in one

Consequences In Lord Of The Flies
A World Without Consequences In the novel Lord Of The Flies, the characters are thrust onto a
deserted island, outside the confines of their regimented society. As a result, they slowly lose their
morality because there are no consequences for their actions thus shifting from civilization to
savagery. This shift was first seen from the boy s actions. Once on the island, there are no rules and
the boys play all day, especially the littluns and two boys named Roger and Maurice who destroy all
their sand castles. Roger did not feel guilty, but Maurice was different for in his other life Maurice had
received chastisement for filling a younger eye with sand. Now, though there was no parent to let fall
a heavy hand, Maurice still felt the unease ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mask is Jack s camouflage for when he hunts in order to hunt better, but it truly represents Jack s
turn to savagery for the mask does not hide his true identity, it brings out his inner savagery. Masks are
used to hide people s identity or to let them become someone or something else. If no one can
recognize who a person is, then that person cannot be blamed for their actions. Therefore, Jack is freed
from his morality and therefore the is no longer any consequences for his actions as well as all the
boys eventually becoming unrecognizable; they are no longer individuals and cannot be distinguished
from savages. This is the case when Ralph and Piggy go to Castle Rock a when the boys who joined
Jack s group appeared, savages appeared, painted out of recognition, edging round the ledge to the
neck (175). The masks hide their identities, the boys are no longer civilized boys, but a group of
savages. Therefore, the boys are not responsible for their actions and the masks bring that out in the
boys, causing them to turn to savagery. Clearly the masks connect back to the very reason the boys

Conflict Between Northern Uganda And The Civil War Essay
When I think about conflict in Northern Uganda, I vividly recall the distant look and aloofness that my
childhood neighbor and friend, Grace, always donned. My primary school was entirely a boarding
school affair. We left the comfort of our parents homes to move to an entirely new community, living
with other children my age, 7 years, sharing, caring and looking out for each other. Yet, deep down,
each of us had their untold story. Grace s story, which she told, piece by piece, a little unsure whether
she could trust me, was different. She talked about one of the biggest and longest conflicts was in
Northern Uganda, a civil war by the Lord s Resistance Army led by Kony .They carried out
widespread abduction, mutilation and kidnapping of children who became child soldiers, sex slaves
and child mothers. Some were civilians with fresh bullet wounds who had been caught in a rebel
ambush; others were land mine victims. Her mother was a nurse at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital,
so she spent most of her childhood at the medical quarters. Each time the ambulance arrived at the
hospital; local residents would rush to the hospital gate to observe in sorrow as dying victims were
rolled into the surgery ward. Watching this daily routine was the beginning of her distrust in humanity
and social withdrawal. I had no help to offer besides a listening ear.
The more she talked about her ordeal, the more she opened up. There was always a glimmer of hope
in her eyes after telling her story.

Legalizing Marijuana in the United States Essay
Legalizing Marijuana Debate
Marijuana, also known as Cannabis is the third most well liked recreational drug, which only falls
behind alcohol and tobacco, in the United States (The Whitehouse, n.d.). Marijuana is made up of
dried leaves, plants, stalks, and pits from the hemp plant Cannabis Sativa, which comprises of the
mind altering compound delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), in addition to other associated
compounds. This plant substance can correspondingly be converged in a resin called hashish or an
adhesive black fluid called hash oil. Efforts to legalize marijuana for medication treatment and
recreational use in the United States have grown in current years. The Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) states that marijuana may perhaps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The United States has been involved in a failing battle versus marijuana since the execution of the
Uniform Narcotic Act in the 1930 s. Americans are not only squandering almost eight billion a year,
Americans are losing probable income. Americans could be in a position to gain a profit of a
significant amount of revenues if marijuana were to be legal and structured by the Department of
Agriculture (Norml, 2014). Revenue from the tax system of marijuana purchases would extend from
about two and a half billion for each year if marijuana were taxed like conventional inventory
products to six billion if it were taxed like tobacco or alcohol.
Marijuana is a contrast to tobacco and alcohol when addiction characteristics do not show with the use
of marijuana while addiction shows with legal tobacco and alcohol. It shows that less than one in ten
marijuana smokers convert to consistent consumers of the drug, and most intentionally terminate their
use after age 34, by comparison, 15 percent of alcohol users and 32 percent of tobacco smokers
display indicators of drug dependency. Cannabis withdrawal indicators are uncommon and do not
need replacement medication to stop the habit. When smoking marijuana comes to an end of an intake,
the vast majority of smokers do not feel subjected to uncomfortable withdrawal indicators
commanding restarting the use of marijuana. The authority of marijuana is much more profound than
plain human physiology; it is a

Louise Bourgeois Cell XXV Analysis
Cell XXV (The View of the World of the Jealous Wife) By Louise Bourgeois.
An example of a work of art that I believe exemplifies the best of contemporary practice is Cell XXV
(The View of the World of the Jealous wife), a sculpture by artist Louise Bourgeois (1911 2010).
The sculpture was made in 2001 by the artist as part of her Cell series. The sculpture itself features
three figures, each of them headless, armless and legless and each of them female. The three figures
are encased in a prison cell, or birdcage like structure. On the floor are two large white marble
spheres. Hanging between these two is a mannequin wearing a white dress, on one side, hanging
slightly higher, another torso with just a neck and bust, wears flowery fabric, ... Show more content on

Much of Bourgeois work revolved around her own personal feelings towards her childhood and the
ongoing affair that her father had with her childhood nanny and it would not be difficult to see how
this piece could represent the anger felt by the wife her mother towards both her fathers mistress (the
figure in white in the centre perhaps) and towards him, being represented by the implied phallus
constructed by the spheres and the white figure. The white figure and spheres can also be looked at as
a simultaneous depiction of both the father and his mistress with the Jealous Wife and perhaps the
artist herself depicted as the short torso, looking upon them both with hatred. The clothing worn by the
figures seems to be of importance too. The figure in the middle wears white, as does the short torso, a
colour typically used symbolically in clothing to depict innocence and purity as with wedding dresses
and communion dresses etc, and yet here it seems to have been used with irony, perhaps the artist
laughing at the thought of the people depicted in this sculpture being deemed innocent. The figure in
the blue dress stands out in comparison and is black in colour as well to contrast further the all white
of it s companions. This figure is clearly an outsider, a disapproving observer of what it is witnessing.
Despite its separation from the other figures in the sculpture however, all three are enclosed together
in this cell and closed off from the rest of the world. They remain frighteningly still and trapped.
Perhaps this is a comment on how isolated Bourgeois felt from the rest of the world in her youth.
Perhaps it is a comment by the artist on how she felt her fathers affair took over her whole

Homestead Lockout and Strike Essay
Homestead Lockout and Strike On the night of July 6, 1892, an event would take place that would
change American history forever. Andrew Carnegie and Henry Clay Frick were planning something
that no one would ever expect. The Amalgamated Association (The AA) attempted to renew their
contract, but because the majority of the employees were non union they decided to go with the
majority and make it non union. Carnegie did not want to be directly involved with the break of the
unions, so he brought in Frick to be in charge of the plant. His plans were to lockout the workers and
bring in workers who would do what he wanted them to do with increased hours and less pay. Frick
built a fifteen foot barbed wire fence around the plant to keep ... Show more content on

They were not willing to make any concessions. They wanted them to continue with the long hours as
mandated by them. If the workers didn t agree to these terms they would be fired. Employers knew
that people needed jobs and were not concerned about filling vacant positions. In today s age, if you re
working that many hours we believe that we should get paid for what we worked. They felt they same
way, but because of the union they didn t receive those rights. Some consequences of the strike were
longer workdays. Days went from eight hour shifts to twelve hour shifts, six days a week. Wages were
cut; all employees were working with a mandatory increase of hours and not making what they should
have been making. People were not able to provide for their families. Conditions would continue this
way until the steel industry unionized, but that would not be for about another forty four years later.
Because of the way the economy is today, unfortunately history seems to be repeating itself. There
seems to be a big push to get the unions out of the work force again. Businesses cannot afford the hirer
wages, benefits and security that unions afford. Businesses are being forced to downsize resulting in
the layoff of workers. Cutting medical benefits and hiring more employees but only for part time
positions, to keep costs down. Employees are

Designing A Product, An Advertiser
When trying to sell a product, an advertiser must think of their target audience. For Covergirl, their
audience is mainly women but it is for makeup enthusiast. Covergirl always tailors their
advertisements in the same way. There is always a woman, normally it is just her head and her
shoulders sometimes. She is posed very dramatically and she is always flawless with a clear
complexion, contoured skin, full pink lips, bright eyes and perfectly styled hair. There is always a bold
element or something that grabs your attention in a Covergirl advertisements. Most of them also have
a theme for example, the blossom mascara ad that features Katy Perry has a theme of flowers with

The text underneath the picture describes the product and how it is better than the competition. This
text talks about how the mascara is just as good if not better than false lashes. The colors used are very
contrasting. The background is very light and Drew Barrymore is portrayed as pale and the only other
color use is yellow. Black is used and is on her fishnet gloves and is very contrasting to the smooth
texture and colors.
In this ad specifically, there is a lot of contrasting images. The black fishnet gloves in contrast to the
smooth, glossy, silk fabric and the flawless face of Drew Barrymore. The dark color is only on the
black gloves draws attention to the gloves. However, your attention then moves to the next darkest
things, her eyes. They are effectively using the contrasting textures and colors to draw your attention
to her eyelashes. Another effective fact is that Covergirl uses Drew Barrymore as a model, her familiar
face plays on pathos and makes the audience trust the advertisement.
This image is a Covergirl ad advertising nylon mascara, using Drew Barrymore as a spokesperson for
this product. This ad appeared in a magazine and a similar one aired on television. This ad was made
by Covergirl, a well known makeup production company. They have chosen to make this is to sell
their new nylon mascara. Covergirl is attempting to sell this mascara to women, unhappy with their
mascara or false

(Kirkpatrick Kirkpatrick 2015) It is definitely hard not to relate my theatergoing experience to this lyrics from Something Rotten! when I saw it in preview in Spring 2015. The song play spoof on the memorable finale of A Chorus Line where Brian D Arcy James and Brad Oscar did high kicks with the ensemble recreating the legendary finale to the 1975 musical. • 3. Ancestral Lines Chapter 3 Chapter three of Ancestral Lines begins with Barker being taught how to paint a Tapa (a personally designed cloth) by two elder women, as the process is explained Barker compares the Tapa cloth to society composed of basic elements that fit together to produce a whole. (Barker 2017:75) Barker also breaks down the three key facets of contemporary social organization: The socialization of children into gendered adults, the formation of kin based groups and categories, and the formation of alliance between groups through marriage exchanges and life crisis ceremonies. (Barker 2017:75 76) Things to note about children in general and as socialized gendered adults: when a child is born, they are not considered socially human and are believed to be vulnerable to attacks from spirits because their souls are not yet attached to their bodies. Mothers are the main source of care. Girls are often put to work first, assisting their mothers with cooking, cleaning, and caring for infants. Boys contrastingly help their fathers with hunting, building, and protecting. While inequality is prevalent, women are not without power and enjoy high levels of security and influence. • 4. Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court as a Dystopian... Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court as a Dystopian Work For years, Mark Twain s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court has been primarily viewed as a work of simple satire. Twain, desiring to poke fun at a group of America s cultural critics, chief among them Matthew Arnold, who claimed that cultural life in the U.S. treaded on shallow soil, takes aim at the venerated institutions of Britain. The author attempts to show that his country s lack of romanticized social structures, meaning an absence of royalty, the Catholic church, and long dead knights and princesses, was far from a cultural weakness. Twain explodes the myth around idealized chivalric society and proves it to be no match for the Nineteenth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here, as in much of Tom Sawyer and most of Huckleberry Finn, he is a great novelist (DeVoto, 274). The work devolves from its first chapters, however, and becomes something very different by the end of the novel. A Connecticut Yankee s climactic, blood letting ending, in particular, stands out as amateurish bungling by the author. Twain, in a burst of what seems, upon initial investigation, a beginning writer s attempt to resolve a novel that has spiraled out of his control, kills off his antagonists and finally his protagonist as well. It seems that Twain throws his hands up in frustration and ends the action in an orgy of electrocutions and Gatling gun fire. . . . the book is chaos. Twain s mind was not able to stay within[satire s] limits. His imaginative ferment demanded gigantic expression, (DeVoto, 278). An alternate reading of the conclusion, however, allows the reader to take a vastly different critical angle on the book. When viewed through the lens of anti utopian or dystopian analogy, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court s finale becomes a grave prediction of man s industrialized future. Where Aldous Huxley augured man s enslavement to technology, its intellectual and critical emasculation in Brave New World, Twain s work can be construed to encapsulate the pending destruction of society s innocence and idealism by ... • 5. Lee Vs Grant At the end of the Civil War, two great men found themselves in a bind. Robert E. Lee, commander of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, had a slew of wounded and malnourished soldiers, and nothing to feed them. Ulysses S. Grant, commander of the Union Army, had resources to spare and extended an offer of surrender in exchange for those rations. Lee accepted, and therefore forfeit the Civil War to the Union Army. Throughout their four year struggle for victory, the two men underwent many trials, and ultimately came to a consensus that the carnage had to come to an end. Although Lee and Grant had drastically different approaches to the way they commanded their respective armies, both went down in American History as heroes. Robert E. Lee was fanatic about the caliber of his work and held those around him to extremely high standards, which led to his eventual downfall, and decision to surrender at Appomattox. Throughout his life, Lee was noted as being incredibly dedicated to his duties, and oftentimes even put his job over his family. According to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, we remember Robert E. Lee as one of our great American Christians History remembers Lee as one of the greatest war generals of all time. On the other hand, although Grant did win the war, I do not think his efforts are remembered in such great magnitude as Lee s. Perhaps this is because he did not have to put up as valiant of a fight as Lee, whose army had a natural disadvantage. Grant s army simply had more weapons and more men, which were simple factors, but factors worth everything in this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I was nervous to be playing for a new organization and didn t know what to expect. I went in blind, feeling slightly scared. I was a new and upcoming player on an already established and a great team. It was hard joining a team where I was the new kid and was instantly put ahead of some others. • 8. Baldwin and the Nation of Islam Essay Baldwin and the Nation of Islam The Nation of Islam impacted many African American people during its time. This Black Muslim nation not only requested, but demanded and required basic teachings which included racial separation, white devilry, and the coming Armageddon. None of these basic teachings supported James Baldwin s perceptions. It was Baldwin s view of pitying the white man for their lack of not being able to see through the color line and to embrace differences that whites and blacks held together to create a better, inexorable, and supreme nation. The Nation of Islam felt no pity for the whites or, as they would call them, devils. Neither would the Muslims embrace their differences from other races, but actually ... But, no the man who came into the room was small and slender, really very delicately put together, with a thin face, large, warm eyes, and a most winning smile (Baldwin 323). Muhammad was a regular man that merely exuded confidence. He had a powerful air around him, because he meant every single word that escaped his mouth. As superior to the Islam movement, Muhammad helped integrate the movement s demand within as many black communities as he could. He started out with implementing a grocery store in a nearby black community with nothing but Muslim employees. Then slowly came a restaurant and a bakery. Muhammad was well on his way to proving to blacks that they could accomplish their own needs without having to demand [anything of] the white devil or resort to him (Clegg 50). According to a New York Times article written by Peter Kihss from March 1, 1961, the movements demand was simply Separation, not integration... land of our own (Kihss Negro Extremist Groups). The black nation of Islam wanted four or five states to be turned over as payment for 300 years of slave labor. This way blacks could more establish themselves as independent and wanting their own states proves that the Muslims wanted to be politically separated as well. • 9. Entrepreneurs Are Born and Made Introduction Entrepreneurs are born not made There are two sides to every debate, and the what makes an entrepreneur argument has raged for decades with neither side able to conclusively prove their case. There are many who believe that an entrepreneur must possess personality traits such as vision, passion and drive that are innate and cannot be taught. Others argue that the skills of evaluating opportunities, motivating people and operating a business are easily passed on to eager students looking to be entrepreneurs. The truth is that both sides are right and it s time for a compromise: Entrepreneurs are born and made. Some people may be natural entrepreneurs and immediately open a business, others will have studied and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some psychological models assert that a proportion of our personality is inborn and permanent (Hollander, 1971), that a psychological core at the center of our personality gives us enduring, inner characteristics. Hans Eysenck (1965) suggests that our motivation and emotion are related to biological differences in brain function and proposed that 75% of our personality is based on genetic influence and 25% on environmental influence. Research by Peter Whybrow (1999) on identical twins separated at birth examined how their different environments shaped their personalities. He found that around 40% of personality should be credited to genetics, with 60% determined by outside factors. It is widely agreed that certain personality traits are important to being a successful entrepreneur. If we are not born with those innate characteristics, psychologists believe that we do have some ability to adopt new ones or influence ourselves to a certain degree. Another example of the need to be born to be an entrepreneur comes from a study conducted on of more than 200 U.S. entrepreneurs by Northeastern University s School of Technological Entrepreneurship where 61% claim they were inspired to start their own companies by their innate desire and determination, rather than by their education or work experience (Taylor, 2006). Other factors cited were work experience (21 percent) and success of entrepreneurial peers within their industry (16 percent) and only 1% said higher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scholars credit him with writing much of the Book of Psalms. David, an ancestor of Jesus (a.k.a. Son of David), also prophesied about the coming Messiah, won fame and renown for defeating Israel s enemies, and built the temple in Jerusalem. But despite these distinctions, David occasionally committed several disgraceful acts of great sinfulness. Christians commonly think of David s greatest sin as his plot to murder Uriah and then marry Uriah s wife Bathsheba. By far, a far greater sin was David;s unauthorized census of Israel. This command was also evil in the sight of God, so he punished Israel. (1 Chronicles 21: 7). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My Fear Of Thunders And Thunder My fear of thunders and lightning It is truly fascinating how children experience and overcome many fears as they are growing up and learning whether or not something is scary. Astraphobia, otherwise known as the Phobia (fear) of anything related to lightning and thunder, is one of them. It undoubtedly is one of the most complicated things I have ever had to defeat. I obviously was afraid of lightning, but I realized how ridiculous and even pathetic it could be for me. Being among my friends, leaving them and start looking for a place where I could feel more comfortable and safer (a sort of shelter). Sometimes hiding underneath a bed, covering my ears and even crying because acting like that is not logical to those who have no phobia, I felt like abandoned. All of that because of something that occurs within the clouds, far away. Overcoming a phobia of something can magically increase your self confidence. Sometimes, it is what others think about us that makes us to think about changing. Do not fear, my father always said. Before your teenage years, it will be gone. And he was right. • 13. Utopian Urbanism That Forms Utopic Degeneration From recent years, utopian urbanism connects with the so called crisis of modernist urbanism that forms utopic degeneration. Utopia has developed to mean a community with a visionary system of political and societal perfection, where cities that function to improve the daily lives of its citizens; an ideal society, However these concepts are more often than not depicted as an impossible dream, yet too bold, too radical to ever exist in real life. Some utopian visions are focused on new technology, whereas others are on intact landscapes. In other occasions, some are based on new social orders, but all were combined under a radical avant garde and progressive architecture. It is this, their new and bold concepts that drive the imagination of architects and town planners. Although rarely realized in full, principles from some utopian visions have been adopted in part and have had significant influence on existing cities such as New York, Chandigarh and Paris. They are a catalyst for generating ideas and new forms of thinking that leads to, for better or for worse the many innovations in 21st century urban planning. Since utopian thinking can produce a vision of the future that is achievable, what is the connection between having a vision of the future, whether achievable or not, and utopian thinking? The concept of utopia, derived from Thomas Mores, in his famous text in 1516 where he refers a place as to both somewhere good and to nowhere. The connections between utopian ... • 15. The Glass Menagerie Mental Illness Essay Issue #1: Stigma of Mental Illness Both Williams and Gaita employs the stigma against mental illness as a significant issue within both literary texts. Mental illness of the two prominent female characters within separate texts, namely Christine from Romulus my Father, and Laura from The Glass Menagerie is a prominent element in the story as it shapes the interpretation of the audience. The employment of these characters allow the author to shed light to values and attitudes of which the society holds against mental illness, irrespective of the time period. In The Glass Menagerie, Laura s character serves as the victimised manifestation of mental illness. The unfortunate character of Laura Wingfield suffered from anxiety and a limp on the leg . Markers for these activities are left in the bones, joints and dentition which is useful for anthropologists as only skeletal material is left in the case of most ancient populations. Subsequently much research has been undertaken in this area with varying levels of validity. In this essay I seek to explain what information can be reliably gathered from skeletal material, it will focus on bone density and muscle attachments associated with heavy workloads, joint wear caused by repeated processes such as grinding grain, osteoarthritis and tooth wear associated with tool use. To aid this discussion I will detail the activity changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Food gathering, butchering and carrying materials for fires and temporary shelters are all fairly short but high intensity physical exercise. Subsequently in hunter gatherer populations there is a trend in the archaeological record for higher bone density and greater cortical bone thickness in cross section (Maggiano et al, 2008). The opposite is true of agricultural societies of the past. Activities involved with agriculture are often slow, repetitive low load level tasks such as weeding, sowing seeds and the picking and harvesting of crops (Bridges, 1989). These activities are mainly upper body activities and are more commonly associated with joint wear and osteoarthritis, which I will mention later. Muscle attachments are the sites on the bone where ligaments are anchored, these may become exaggerated in individuals with larger than average musculature. Based on the crude argument that hunter gatherers used leg muscles in day to day activities and agricultural peoples used their upper body in activity more it stands to reason that the respective muscle attachments would be enlarged. Some of the current research highlights the great benefits of the system, including the mass gathering of data to identify specific problems within the safety sector. Such as Cardosi, Falzarano, Han (2008) research based on ASRS reports, where they analyzed 386 reports from the program database and gathered data which yielded a lot of results on the contributing factors of pilot controller communication errors. Several researchers have already used the data provided by the system to create further safety information within the aviation field, although the amount of data the gathered was rather limited and needed a further boost, which the ASRS system can provide if the majority of personnel are aware of its existence. Furthermore, a majority of the research literature so far has all been based on the data that the ASRS has stored, but almost no research has been done on the ASRS awareness within the aviation community. If the proper research is done on the ASRS and the knowledge of it of the aviation sector, the field would view a greatly increased input of data and create a truly preventative system that create an overall safer environment. The current state of awareness of the ASRS system within the aviation community is severely inconspicuous and under used. Through the proposed research, additional data will be collected to clearly identify a percentage of people that are aware of the ASRS program and know how to utilize it. The proposed hypothesis of this research project is that the ASRS reporting system has a large gap in the awareness and identification of the current system. To identify ... There are also superimposing areas like the upper middle class and the lower upper class. The stratification is based on the social as well as economic environments. Although these classifications and entry to these statuses are not fixed, these three classifications give an overall perceptive of the social classification in the United States of America. There are many definitions for ICT and the most elaborate version by (Blurton, 1999) defined ICT as the: ... diverse set of technological tools and resources used to communicate, and to create, disseminate, store, and manage information. These technologies include computers, the Internet, broadcasting technologies (radio and television), and telephony . Information and Communication Technologies are a networked system comprising data processing and storage and retrieval of information (Herselman Britton, 2002). Information and Communications Technology is not a cure for all educational dilemmas, even though today technologies are obligatory tools (Guri Rosenblit, 2006). Information and Communications Technology when effectively incorporated into teaching and learning ensures interaction between learners and teachers, thus advancing cognitive skills development (Jones Cress, 2001; Punie et al., 2006). Likewise, Information and Communications Technology has provided the tools needed to deliver education to remote geographical regions (Guttman, 2003). She conducted a study to show that the pictures and information provided in school packet materials mailed to prospective students had a large impact on the likelihood of them contacting the school for more information. The article titled Use of Application Materials for Recruitment of Ethnic Minority Students in Psychology questioned on page 818 whether these packets are equally effective in recruiting ethnic minority applicants (Bernal, Barron Leary, 1983) as they are in attracting white applicants. The hypothesis explored the idea that programs which stated a higher proportion of ethnic minority grad students would be judged as having a higher chance of recruiting ethnic minorities. Specifically, Dr. Martha Bernal explored how clinical psychology programs in the United States displayed diversity within the packets mailed out to prospective students. Because he does what is good for his fellow citizens for whom he feels regard despite the danger to which this exposes him, Socrates claims to be a benefactor of the Athenians. He refers with pride to his record of military service and underlines that it was service to the democracy: When the commanders that you elected to command me stationed me at Potidaea and Amphipolis and Delion, I remained there like anyone else, and ran the risk of death (28e). He is an honorable citizen who disregards death and preaches that The difficulty, my friends, is not to avoid death, but to avoid unrighteousness; for that runs faster than death. An example of a work of art that I believe exemplifies the best of contemporary practice is Cell XXV (The View of the World of the Jealous wife), a sculpture by artist Louise Bourgeois (1911 2010). The sculpture was made in 2001 by the artist as part of her Cell series. The sculpture itself features three figures, each of them headless, armless and legless and each of them female. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much of Bourgeois work revolved around her own personal feelings towards her childhood and the ongoing affair that her father had with her childhood nanny and it would not be difficult to see how this piece could represent the anger felt by the wife her mother towards both her fathers mistress (the figure in white in the centre perhaps) and towards him, being represented by the implied phallus constructed by the spheres and the white figure. The white figure and spheres can also be looked at as a simultaneous depiction of both the father and his mistress with the Jealous Wife and perhaps the artist herself depicted as the short torso, looking upon them both with hatred. The clothing worn by the figures seems to be of importance too. The figure in the middle wears white, as does the short torso, a colour typically used symbolically in clothing to depict innocence and purity as with wedding dresses and communion dresses etc, and yet here it seems to have been used with irony, perhaps the artist laughing at the thought of the people depicted in this sculpture being deemed innocent. The figure in the blue dress stands out in comparison and is black in colour as well to contrast further the all white of it s companions. This figure is clearly an outsider, a disapproving observer of what it is witnessing. Despite its separation from the other figures in the sculpture however, all three are enclosed together in this cell and closed off from the rest of the world. They remain frighteningly still and trapped. Perhaps this is a comment on how isolated Bourgeois felt from the rest of the world in her youth.
