2. Bill Foster s Falling Down
As a society, we often find ourselves entangled up in the midst of what our often clouded minds
perceive to be a chaotic and unforgiving world, but as one can only view the outside world as
they perceive themselves, equally, it can be pondered that the decay of humanity resides within
one s secondary reality (the outside world), to be only a product of the primary reality of which
resides within one s own mind? As what many people commonly perceive as a broken society and
where every fault is placed upon the system and upon one s own neighbors; upon closer inspection,
one truly has to ponder where the root of such brokenness, in reality, truly finds its beginning and
what fuels this intensity of which, only adds to such perceivably chaotic events?... Show more

As Bill Foster purposefully trekked across the mean streets of Los Angeles, and through a series
of seemingly random encounters, Bill s pent up aggression slowly began to bubble to the
surface. Upon first glance, one might naturally assume that Bill was simply the victim of an
isolated nervous breakdown, or has his sanity, much like the world around him, been slowly
unraveling toward a point of no return? Falling down is a brilliant sketch of a relatable character
who examines, contemplates, and protests the many life events of which seem to play out in such
a fashion that, just perhaps, everyone can in some form association with, as it almost appears as
though Bill has found clarity in a world of which he perceives has gone mad; thus, bringing to

3. Uncontrolled Desire In Rossetti s Goblin Market
Stephen Cox
Professor Masi
Literature Section 2
November 6, 2017
Uncontrolled Desire Come buy, come buy, was still their cry. / Laura stared but did not stir,
/ longed but had no money: / The whisk tailed merchant bade her taste / In tones as smooth as
honey, (Rossetti 104 108)
In a harsh world, desire is something that can bring vulnerability to any person. Cristiana Rossetti s
Goblin Market is a riveting tale about two sisters who handle desire differently. One knows desire
exists, but has the maturity and courage to not give in to her own yearnings, whereas the other
cannot control her desires and pays dearly for them. Love is a strong theme in Goblin Market and is
shown through the love that Lizzie has for her sister, Laura. Lizzie does not let her desire get the
best of her when hearing the goblin men, she thrust a dimpled finger / In each ear, shut her eyes
and ran (Rossetti 67 68). However, it is Laura that falls into a desire for the goblin men through
curiosity: Curious Laura chose to linger / Wondering at each merchant man (Rossetti 69 70). The
difference in the sisters understanding of desire cannot be better shown than in these lines. The
goblin men are selling fruit that Laura eventually gets her hands on. As she begins to eat, she stops
herself. The desire overwhelmed her to the point that when she did stop she knew not was it night
or day (Rossetti 139). The fruit in the proceeding lines could be symbolizing drugs the goblin men

President Woodrow Wilson established America s goal for joining World War I as making the
world safe for democracy. At the conclusion of the War, President Wilson declared fourteen
principles for peace to be used during the Paris Peace Conference, called the Fourteen Points. The
most important of these points was the final point: a general association of nations with the
guarantees of political and territorial independence and security. As the Peace Conference
progressed, more nations ratified the Treaty of Versaillesand joined the League of Nations, the
embodiment of President Wilson s fourteenth point. However, Senate the United States, from
President Wilson s own country, did not ratify the treaty.
President Wilson also believed that An overwhelming majority of the American people is in favor

5. Medication Errors Common Type Of Medical Error
Medication errors commonly occur in healthcare facilities. According to the Joint Commission,
these medication errors are believed to be the most common type of medical error and are a
significant cause of preventable adverse events (The Joint Commission, 2008). Many experts agree
with the research that medication errors have the potential to cause harm within the pediatric
population about three times as higher than in the adult population. This is due to medication
dosing errors that are weight based dosing calculations, fractional dosing, and misplacement of the
decimal point that can lead to overdosing or under dosing (The Joint Commission, 2008). Children
are at greater risk than adults for medication errors because they have an immature physiology as
well as developmental limitations that affect their ability to communicate and self administer
medications (The Joint Commission, 2008). Another important factor is that the great majority of
medications are developed in concentrations appropriate for adults; therefore, pediatric indications
and dosage guidelines often aren t included with a medication, necessitating weight based dosing or
dilution (The Joint Commission, 2008). The need to alter the original medication dosage requires a
series of pediatric specific calculations and tasks, each significantly increasing the possibility of
error (The Joint Commission, 2008). Additionally, an observation of safety regulations and
practices by Nemours Children s

6. Pros And Cons Of Prince Hamlet
Would anybody that is truly insane ever actually claim to others that he or she is insane (or
pretending to be insane), as Prince Hamlet did to his trusted companions Horatio and Marcellus?
Most likely not, as such a person probably would not be able to realize the extent of his or her
delusion on his or her own, and therefore would stubbornly deny that he or she is in fact crazy.
Furthermore, would any truly mad individual ever, if given a relatively easy opportunity to take
his or her revenge against someone who had committed great wrongs against him or her (and
therefore caused the individual to fall into insanity in the first place), take the time to evaluate the
pros and cons of taking revenge at that time as Prince Hamletdid while his hated uncle Claudius
(who had apparently killed Hamlet s father, the king of Denmark, taken the Danish throne for
himself, and even married Hamlet s mother Gertrude in the process) was attempting to pray for
forgiveness for his wicked deeds and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Certainly not a truly insane person would have taken his or her revenge immediately on impulse
(of course, unless he or she had become so crazy that all of his or her memories or senses had
been lost) without even fully realizing the details of the situation. These examples, as well as
Hamlet s purposefully disheveled appearances before his former love Ophelia, his playful
conversation with Ophelia s father (and Claudius s adviser and lackey) Polonius, and his actions
after his murder of Polonius, seem to show that the madness displayed by Hamlet during several
key parts of Williams Shakespeare s famous tragic play Hamlet was not real, but feigned. Despite
this, many common readers (and audiences) of Shakespeare s Hamlet are still often left believing
that the titular Prince Hamlet s supposedly feigned antic disposition is actually genuine

7. The Importance Of Crime And Punishment
The system is wrong and different from us. There are many ways to reason through the correct
course of action involving human punishment for crime. Crime is considered negative in society.
During biblical times crime is not only affected society, but it was believed to have also been
directed towards God himself. The Bible is the oldest book to reference with many directives to
living life peacefully and without revenge (StudyMode crimeand punishment). The problems arise
when the time comes to punish a criminal. There are disagreements over the severity of a crime, the
mentality of the criminal, and the correct penalty that should result from that crime among other
things. Immanuel Kant has a few fundamental ideas about how society should think and behave.
Among his ideas is the way to deal with crime and approach punishment. Kant believed in the idea
of Retributivism. He felt that one should pay for the crime that they committed in a way equivalent
to the crime, whereas like the nation of Seecebeesia utilitarian may also take the position that
criminals should be rehabilitated rather than necessarily punished for the crime, since many
criminals have a questionable state of mind (2008, Philosophical Approach to Crime and
Punishment). Also in the bible Matthew 5:38 states, You have heard that it has been said, eye for
eye and tooth for tooth . It explains that the punishment should fit the crime. If criminals know that
there is going to be a punishment, and what that

8. Relationship Between Tian And Human
The relationship between Tian and human When it comes to Tian , most Chinese people regard it
as nature or heaven, but there are much more different cognition advocated by traditional Chinese
philosophers. For instance, Mencius believes that Heaven is an absolute ruler and it is the destiny,
which human is unable to change in any case. (A.T.Nuyen 2013) On the contrary, Xun zi thinks
that nature runs automatically and regularly. In order to live a life of happiness and richness,
people are supposed to actively make an efficient use of it. (Chan 1963) Apart from these two
concept mentioned above, Zhuang zi put forward another completely different idea. He suggests
that human and nature should co exist peacefully without rivalry or any... Show more content on

(A.T.Nuyen 2013) During the Warring States period, people did not have other choices but
follow what heaven managed for them as they were asked, and they were also told not to change
anything. No matter what kind of unfair things they were suffering, they were convinced to
follow the fate because that was heaven s word. Although both of Mencius and Xun zi acquired
knowledge from Confucian school, they were not in agreement on Tian . In Spring and Autumn
period, Xun zi held the opinion that heaven ran regularly and it did not exist or cease to exist for
the sake of anybody. (Chan 1963) What s more, Xun zi thought that human could try to analyzing
the regularity of heaven. Once people mastered it, they would gain greatly. They could play an
active role in their live and make a use of the regularity for the benefit of human beings. (Janghee
2005) Compared to Mencius and Xun zi, Zhuang zi has a totally different idea about Tian . Zhuang
zi thinks that heaven and human, as well as Dao are interlinked. To some degree, they roll into one.
And there is an interesting story about Zhuang zi. One day he had a dream of himself becoming a
butterfly and when he woke up, he could not figure out whether the butterfly dreamed about him or
he dreamed about a butterfly. What Zhuang zi really wants to tell us through this story is that
human is supposed to live with nature peacefully and harmoniously. (Yao 2013) What is more, I

9. Analysis Of The Ravishing Of Lol Stein
Analyzing the Liberation of Lol Stein
Through searching inside the haze one will find their true self. In the book The Ravishing of Lol
Stein by Marguerite Duras, the main character, Lol Stein, goes through a journey to express her
true personality. In the passage, Lol has an affair with the narrator, Jack Hold, which shows her
transition as a person the most. Her internal transition into becoming an entirely different person is
highlighted by the author s use of repetition, diction, symbolism, and dialogue.
The repetition of the passage shows the confusion linked to Lol s transition. The repeated use of
rhetorical questions show the perplexity of Lol s transition. In the passage, the narrator says who is
there in the bed? Who does she think she is? The open endedness of the rhetorical question forces
the audience to evaluate Lol s present mental state. Due to the questions being rhetorical, no
answers are given leaving the audience in a state of confusion with little evidence to help identify
Lol. Later, the narrator asks another rhetorical question asking who was it before me? The question
calls for the audience to intervene again and think about who Lol was as a person now but he
immediately shuts the question down by saying I don t care. This shows he has no interest in the
transition of Lol. Though the situation is confusing, he carries on as if everything is the same.
Another point where the repetition provided insight was when the author stated she insulted

The aim of employment law regulation is to provide legal protection to employees and employers
the relationship between businesses.

16. African American Culture And History Of African-American Hair
African American Hair
The African American culture includes many things such as clothing and music. However, the
highest beauty standard for black people is hair. Kinky, curly in other words nappy , is an
important aspect of the culture. It is as if it tells a story about where we came from and the
troubles our ancestors faced on a day to day basis. Their hair is multicultural, meaning that there are
several types varying from straight to extremely tight curls.
A significant difference between African Americanhair and Caucasian hair is the curl pattern or
bond of the hair follicles. Other than that, they both have the same identical makeup. A single hair
follicle possesses some complex structures such as a cuticle and root. It contains three layers;
epidermis, dermis, and the subcutaneous layer. These are the outer, middle, and inner layer of
the follicle. It is composed of certain connective tissue like adipose or fat found in the
subcutaneous layer. The strand has cells like keratin and melanophore that provides the hair with
the many shades of hair color. The smaller hairs around the perimeter, also known as baby hairs
develop within the first trimester of conception. They often grow out as a person gets older, but
with some people, it remains. There are several different types of curl patterns that people may
have. It varies from soft waves to tight coils. This depends on the type of bond a hair follicle has.

17. Analysis Of Adrienne Rich By Caroline Herschel
Adrienne Rich was an extremely influential mid twentieth century female poet. She was living and
writing as a part of the second wave of feminism, which heavily influenced her works of poetry.
Her poem begins by acknowledging Caroline Herschel, who I had never heard of. I was curious
about her and decided to research her. Caroline Herschel was an eighteenth and nineteenth century
German astronomer, who significantly contributed to the field of astronomy. She was the first
womanto ever discover a comet and she went on to discover 7 more comets. Her life was truly
spectacular, however, her brother, William Herschel always outshone her. He was also an
astronomer, and his contributions were take much more seriously. Rich not only states that
Caroline Herschel was the sister of Willam, but also a sister of others, which I interpret to mean
other unsung, unappreciated women. This dedication is a recognition of the sisterhood and
connectedness among all women, which the poet later explains to be galaxies of women. As I
was reading the poem, I interpreted much of the poem to be response to sexism and as a way for
Rich to express the laments of women living in a patriarchal society. The poem appears to be a
critique of society s attitude towards women, and how female creativity and existence was
hindered. The poet was able to present her own experiences with femininity, and the challenges that
she has faced because of her gender. However, she acknowledged the many women who had

19. Chameleon And Identity Essay
The subject of identity more fittingly identities, chameleon like character is highly contested and
has been greatly discussed in the social sciences provoking a wide range of views in the form of
ethnic identity, cultural identity, political identity, and national identity (Diagne, 2001).
Etymologically the concept of identity originates from the Latin word idem which means sameness.
This sameness is founded on culture, shared history, religion, language, and ethnicity (Eriksen,
1996). The language acts as a binding agent when it comes to relations among people; Religion
sets a moral standard by which people ought to live by; A shared history builds solid bonds
between people as the shared myths and history gives them their identity (Eriksen,... Show more

This is since the development of identities is not merely grounded on reality but on the fusion of
both the real and imaginary worlds. Equivalent views are held by Caughey (1984) who believes
that, stories and the media have the ability to influence an individual s identity. It is their window
into the world; how they see themselves and others as well as how much value they place on things,
people, and contexts. In his book Imagined communities, Anderson s (1991) makes the claim that a
nation is imagined because the members of even the smallest nation will never know most of their
fellow members, meet them, or even hear of them, yet in the minds of each lives the image of their
communion (p. 6). Now, Anderson gives clues that the idea of an imagined community takes form
when the members of that community live in the image of their union . Which means that if an
individual is part of that community it will inform how they view themselves as part of that
community. The community somewhat dictates how you live and relate to other human beings. As
Anderson discusses imagined communities Taylor (1989) discusses horizons of significance and
constituent communities. Taylor maintains that, each individual receives a constituent community
which goes before him and also establishes the roots of his/her values. He states that, the

22. William Chaucer and His Views on the Clergy Essay
In today s society, masses of people are moving away from Christianity, due to the dark past of
the church. We cannot follow those who choose the path of corruption, for fear that we face a
similar fate. Christianity is a pillar in our world that holds up many people, and should it fall,
those who are supported by it will follow. History is filled with men such as John Wycliff who
have fought to shed light on cleric corruption, through works such as A Treatise of John Wycliff
Against the Order of the Friars, and later, Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales. Wycliff s speech
in 1382 is the first exposition of the clergy s wrongdoing, when he accuses the friars of stealing

He also castrated himself for a prettier voice to bring forward more money. This shows that he
was not singing for the church but for his own personal gain. The author repeats the word fake
when he says (706 707) his wallet lay before him on his lap brim full of pardons come from rome
all hot and (714 715) for in his trunk he had a pillow case which he asserted was our lady veil .
The veil was actually that of a woman. The description of the pardoner s actions personify his
fake personality. Chaucer later tells of a sinful church follower that the people call The Wife of
Bath . She s earned this name by showing up at the church door to marry a new man on several
occasions, and having a promiscuous love life behind closed doors. Chaucer repeats the use of
sarcasm by using the word worthy in A worthy woman form beside bath city (455) and A worthy
woman all her life. (469); by doing this Chaucer is noting that shes not a worthy woman, and this
is what one would suspect of the common person when the most holy and pure teachers such as the
friar are wandering through dark and sinful times. The Wife of Bath is an epitome of what was
thought of the common man in 14th century Europe. The shining light in the darkness was the
parson, who was the only man who lived by moral standards, led by example, and sought no
monetary gain from his teachings. Chaucer points out the parson s humility by revealing giving to

24. Analyzing Elena Kalis Curiosity
Curiosity, is a photograph by Elena Kalis which portrays a contrast of light and dark with several
hues of a particular color. The photograph depicts a mixture of various art elements, changing the
perception the viewer has on the natural world to something different. Overall, Curiosity
represents the escapism from the certain expectations of perfection in life. The photograph
symbolizes the effects of expectations can have on a person by examining the features of the
character. The focus of the image is on the ballerina whose position is uncomfortable, and stressed
from the hunch which portrays escapism. She is hunched over, beginning to step into the other
side where there is a world with no precision. As a dancer, she wants to get away from the
expectations of perfection that a ballerina has, and the innocence shown in her white dress. Her
attire is a white luminated dress that signifies, mental clarity, promoting feelings of fresh
beginnings and renewal, clearing obstacles and clutter, and encouraging the purification of
thoughts and actions that represents her want of freedom from expectations (Bourn, Web). The
placement, and space of the ballerina is closer towards the left where the distorted mirror is
brightly highlighted than the darker side. This is used to provide insights into what is important in
the image, which is her desire to be set free, and to escape to a whole different world. As seen in
the image, the concentration of the lightaimed at the

Lesley Rawlins The end justifies the means The end justifies the means is an expression that is
often used in society to validate or excuse distasteful and objectionable actions undertaken by its
people. In effect, the phrase is a justification for dispensing with all morality and principle in the
passage towards a successful conclusion. The Greek writer Sophocles wrote in Electra 409 BC
the end excuses any evil. This was a thought later considered, by the Roman poet Ovid, the result

Zimbardo s prison experiment at Stanford University was a study on what the psychological
effects of becoming a prisoner or prison guard was on the individual. Zimbardo wanted to
investigate whether the cruelty reported among guards in American prisons was due to the
aggressive personalities of the guards or the prison environment itself. Twenty four well adjusted
undergraduates were selected out of over 75 to play the roles of both guards and prisoners. The
guards were permitted to devise most of the rules. A third of the guards exhibited genuine sadistic
tendencies, and subjected the prisoners to torture. After the initial rebellion most of the prisoners
stopped opposing the guards losing their personal identity and self belief. Zimbardo s research
demonstrated that people can behave uncharacteristically when placed, in new social or physical
roles and adopt the attitude and behaviour of their perceived roles, in some cases particularly
zealously. The argument that anything is reasonable if it leads to a significant and meaningful
outcome ignores the moral and ethical questioning of the method and the use of this principle to
countenance experimentation is debatable All the studies outlined, involved a degree of deception

individuals who are basically unsocialized and whose behavior pattern brings them repeatedly into
conflict with society (Schmalleger, p. 132). Buffalo Bill would imprison the overweight woman

PTSD can be characterized by both psychological and physical symptoms, and people who suffer
from it will generally experience impaired functioning in various aspects of their lives
(Schmalleger, p. 246). In the film The Silence of the Lambs the screenplay really doesn t
provide too much insight on Buffalo Bill s childhood, but there is implications that Buffalo Bill
had a traumatic childhood. If the film The Silence of the Lambs provided additional information
on Buffalo Bill s childhood, we could have a better understanding of any specific traumatic or
terrifying experiences that lead to the development of Buffalo Bill s PTSD. Dr. Hannibal Lecter
in the film The Silence of the Lambs, tells Detective Clarice Starling Billy was not born a
criminal, but made one by years of systematic abuse . Due to Buffalo Bill s PTSD, it was clear
that he had feelings of anger, self hatred and wanted to kill women so that he could ultimately
become one after he stitched his victims skin together and made a woman suit for himself. Buffalo
Bill ultimately wanted to turn himself into someone that he didn t hate, so he felt like by wearing
the woman suit and becoming a woman he could accomplish that. These feelings could have been
a combination of both the Anti Social Personality Disorder (ASPD) and also Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder (PTSD). Summarize disorders here Criminological theories that apply to Buffalo Bill I

Abstract Abercrombie and Fitch (A amp;F) is a typical mall front store. They have been in the
business for a century and are not going anywhere. A amp;F sees their fair share of mock items
and lawsuits. However, through it all, A amp;F has made it to be successful, overcome threats, and
open similar chains to target a wider range age market.
Introduction Abercrombie amp; Fitch was founded in 1892 as a unique clothing store. Over the
century in business they have made a distinct target for young adults. The fashion giant specializes
in apparel for ages 18 through 22. The 118 year old retailer has been acknowledged for operating a

16). That is no small feat for any company. A amp;F has also branched out into branding sub chain
stores such as Hollister and Abercrombie. These stores reach the younger audience while still
maintaining an image that is more suitable for that audience. Those stores have also flourished in
their own environment to gain consumer recognition and loyalty. A amp;F is able to create
successful sub brand operations that tap into other target markets.
Greatest Weaknesses The greatest weaknesses that A amp;F has is that the economic downturn
has forced consumers to tone down their spending habits and give up non necessary items like
brand name clothing. This has been especially hard on online sales for A amp;F. The company s
sales for online items have been down and the profit margin is non existent. This makes it hard to
keep the online service available when it does not offer the company with any profit. The lawsuits
A amp;F face are not only because of suggestive advertising but because some view them as
discriminatory against minorities. Often A amp;F ads have a picture of white young adults. This is
seen as that is A amp;F only target; white young adults. In 2005, Abercrombie paid $40 million to a
class of African Americans, Asian Americans, Latinos and women to settle another workplace

After careful review of Ted Buettner s video and transcript and review of his findings, I would

case I look at my community and the factors that make up my community and in the event that
what he states in his video is true, I do believe that my neighborhood and my community could
absolutely adopt the ideas and concepts of a healthier lifestyle and live longer. However, I think
most residents and occupants would agree to say that even though it is possible to implement all
these finding into everyday life and make it a habit it just won t happen. Getting rid of friends just

32. The Importance Of Gender Roles
In short terms, gender roles essentially are social expectations that prescribe how both genders are
supposed to act, think, speak and engage with other individuals. Gender roles impact the way
families function whether it s traditional or non traditional. As said by Wienclaw (2015), even
though the 21st century has shown a continuous change in the way genderroles apply, some basic
traditional gender roles are still active in a lot of families. To elaborate, the basic traditional roles
for males are dominant, aggressive, strong, speedy and successful. The basic traditional roles for
females are sensitive, submissive, emotional and intuitive. Every generation has their own
expectations as to how each gender should act, but today s society is more open minded than those
in the past. Gender roles are common, mainly because of socialization which starts right after birth.
During the adolescent stage, children conform to gender roles that rest on their biological sex.
According to my family, all of them followed the traditional gender roles but later in life, some of
their roles shifted to non traditional.

34. Operating System And The Computer System Essay
Introduction: An operating system is a vital component of the computer system. The common and
simple devices like refrigerators and microwave ovens does not have an operating system. The
complex systems which handle several components, functions and processes usually have an
operating system. The operating system is like the brain of a human being, the brain is an essential
organ in the body of human being which sends signals and helps functioning of the human body.
Our intelligence, attitude, emotions and senses defines our presence, all these are possible because
of our brain. In similar manner, Operating System (OS) is the power behind a computer system. In
other words, operating system is brain of the computer and processor is the heart of the computer.
A computer is the concatenation of several hardware parts. The operating system manages
computer hardware resources and provides common services for computer programs and other
application software. Application programs or software usually require an operating system to
function. For basic hardware functions such as input and output and memory allocation, the
operating system acts as an intermediary between application software and the computer hardware,
although the hardware is directly accessed and executed by application code or software directly,
the hardware will frequently make a system call to an OS function or be interrupted by it. In simple
terms, operating systems track the activities of hardware and

38. Foreshadowing In The Scarlet Ibis
Jeremiah Stith
Ms. Padgett
English 9
19 February 2018
Short Story Literary Analysis Essay James Hurst wrote The Scarlet Ibis. This a depressing short
story about a child who is born disabled. He faces many problems, one of them being his
narcissistic older brother. The Scarlet Ibis gives outstanding examples of foreshadowing,
symbolization, and theme. To begin with, foreshadowing is one of the many literary elements in
this short story. For instance, the child was born in a caul with many problems. The narrator
explains how the child is a great ordeal to everyone. A casket is built as a result of the non belief in
the child s life. James Hurst vividly describes this sinister scenery of death by saying The flower
garden was stained with rotting brown magnolia petals and ironweeds grew rank amid the purple
phlox (Hurst 462). With his disabilities no character in the short story is expecting the child to live
long. By saying all of this, and giving all of this information, Hurst is practically just telling the
reader that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A symbol represents something other than itself. Hurst demonstrates an elaborate use of
symbolization between the Ibis, a bird, and Doodle, the child. Both the Ibis and Doodle where in
some senses born alone. The narrator states this by saying He was born when I was six and was,
from the outset, a disappointment (Hurst 462). Both are fragile in the sense that both are easily
vulnerable to their surroundings, and easily susceptible to death. When doodle dies his older
brother notices the similarities between the Ibis and Doodle; Doodle died like the scarlet ibis, almost
exactly the same, as they both died in a storm. As Doodle s body lay lifeless amid the swamp, the
narrator recognizes the blood trickling out of Doodle s mouth and how the blood resembles the
pristine scarlet color if the ibis. This shows how the ibis is a symbol of

39. Critical Analysis Of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
Critical Analysis of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
The speaker in Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken gives the reader insight into human nature
with each line of poetry. While, Frost had not originally intended for this to be an inspirational
poem, line by line, the speaker is encouraging each reader to seek out his or her own personal
path in the journey of life. Romanticizing the rural woods of New England creates the perfect
setting for the theme of self discovery laid out and described by the speaker.
Robert Frost s original intent in writing the poem was not to convey the inspiration that it has for
almost a hundred years. He had written the poem to poke fun at his friend, Edward Thomas, with
whom he had taken many walks. Thomas was hesitant and always wondering what would happen if
he had chosen a different path (http://www.yoga.com/raw/readings/frost_road.html). In fact, Frost
sent the poem to his friend, then in France, and got the response, ?What are you trying to do with
me?? (http://www.libarts.sfasu.edu/Frost/PopPoems.html). However, Frost did see the impact the
poem was having and stated, Do not follow where the path may lead?Go instead where there is no
path and leave a trail.
The speaker communicates many things in the first stanza of the poem. The first line, ?Two roads
diverged in a yellow wood,? uses imagery with the color yellow, the color of gold, to show that
the speaker sees an opportunity ahead of him. The two roads symbolizes the choices and
consequences he must choose. The next line, ?And sorry I could not travel both,? illustrates how
difficult it is to make a choice. It is impossible not to wonder what could happen by choosing the
other road and what he could be missing out on. ?And being one traveler long I stood,? shows
how the speaker would like to be in two places at once. Unable to accomplish this, he takes a
long time to decide on what he should do. Finally, the speaker describes studying the first option,
looking as far into the future as he possibly could with the lines, ?And looked down one as far as I
could to where it bent in the undergrowth.?
The speaker continues to convey his message in the second stanza of ?The Road Not Taken.? In the
opening line of this

mtDNA was used as a marker of mtDNA damage, most regions of the brain accrued a very small
amount of mtDNA damage before age 75. Cortical regions accrued 1 to 2% deletion levels
between ages 80 90, and the putamen accrued up to 12% of this deletion after age 80. The study

fivefold higher in HD patients than in controls. There was no statistically significant difference in

that HD patients have an increase mtDNA somatic mutation rate. Could the increased rate be from a

consequence? Whatever the origin of the deletion, these

1.1. Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM): Opening Doors for Market
Oriented Approaches Over the past twenty years, CBNRM has been adopted as a panacea for
achieving sustainable NRM and rural economic development in East and Southern Africa [13].
CBNRM was born out of the wisdom that most causes of rural resource degradation take place
due to centralised governance systems that exclude local communities from accessing resources
in protected areas [14]. Thus, Nyirenda et al. [15], note that CBNRM should contribute to
improved collective action in NRM. The net benefits of this approach include among others rural
poverty alleviation, enhancing conservation, strengthening rural economies, empowering local
community management capability in order to lead to long term social, economic and
ecological benefits [13]. CBNRM has been implemented using different models notable among
which include Zimbabwe s CAMPFIRE [16], and LIFE in Namibia [13]. According to Nelson
and Agrawal [14], most scholars and CBNRM practitioners reveal that the approach has not fully
achieved its objectives. For instance, in Zambia, CBNRM programmes have been affected by
poor governance in the local community institutions [15,17]. In Botswana, Nelson and Agrawal

42. Essay about Analysis of Anne Sexton s Poem Her Kind
Analysis of Anne Sexton s Poem Her Kind Anne Sexton was a poet and a woman, but most
importantly, she was an outcast. Subjected to nervous breakdowns and admitted to a
neuropsychiatry hospital, Sexton must have been all too familiar with the staring eyes and the
judging minds of the public. Just being a woman in today s world often can be enough to
degrade a person in the public s eye, let alone being labeled as a crazy woman. But Anne Sexton
did not let society remain unchallenged in its views. She voiced a different opinion of women
through poetry. In Anne Sexton s Her Kind the speaker of the poem embraces society s negative
stereotype of modern, liberated women and transforms it into a positive image. Two voices, the
voice of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This distancing shows how she is different from society; perhaps society pushes her away
because she is different, or perhaps society sees her as different because she has segregated
herself from the typical lifestyle of civilization. Either way, the voice of society chants, A
woman like that is misunderstood (Line 13). Society must get rid of her because it cannot see
her point of view. Moreover, Anne Sexton uses stunning imagery to illustrate the pain society
inflicts on an outcast. The speaker compares herself to a witch who has been carted off to an
insane asylum and claims I have ridden in your cart, driver, I waved my nude arms at villages
going by, I learning the last bright routes (Lines15 17). She vividly describes pain through torture
methods practiced on witches during the Inquisition. For example, she feels she has been burned
at the stake because society s flames still bite my thigh (Line 18). The speaker s ribs crack where
your wheels wind (Line 19) on another torture device, the wheel. The words still in the phrase still
bite (Line 18) stresses that tortures have not gone out of style but have merely changed shape, and
society still employs them to resist the change in power towards women. Although the physical
tortures are no longer obvious in America, women s success is still lagging because of the attitude
of society. The public supposes that she is not

43. Great Halifax Explosion Case Study
On December 6 1917, hundreds were left dead in Halifax, Nova Scotia due to a human error
quick to be immortalized. CBC news says the Imo, a Belgian relief vessel that left the Halifax
Harbor behind schedule on the morning of December 6. Another vessel the Mont Blank, a cargo
ship leaded with explosive materials, was entering. The Captain of the Imo disregarded the laws
of the sea, going over the speed limit for the narrows of the harbor and traversing it from the
wrong direction. Both the Imo and Mont Blank moved toward each other, each unwilling to change
course. The ships made evasive maneuvers at the same time, causing the vessels to scrape against
each other; the sparks from the collision set aflame the explosive materials aboard the Mont... Show

The very existence of disaster photography proves this. Voyeur as defined by the Oxford
Dictionary is a person who enjoys seeing the pain or distress of others. Why would humans
continuously photograph others suffering if they did not gain some pleasure from it?
Photographers might say that the motives of disaster photography are to document and expose
horrors around the world. The intention of the photographer about how the photo should be
received and how it is actually received can be quite different. An example of how humanity s
voyeuristic tendencies effects how viewers react to a photo is given by Susan Sontag in her
book Regarding the Pain of Others. When photographs of suffering are staged, people are
surprised to learn they were staged, and always disappointed instead of celebrating the fact that the
suffering was not real (55). This disappointment is felt because of the need to observe genuine
suffering. The photos of the Halifax disaster used to make postcards are real and it is because of
humanity s voyeuristic tendencies that there is a market for these snapshots of

44. Perfect Competition Model Essay
What are the characteristics of a market and why are they so important? Simply, the characteristics
that define a market are the market structure. The market structure is comprised of features that best
describe the goods or services of a market along with the organizational or competitive
characteristics (What is Economics?). Market structure can also define the number of companies
that exist within a market, producing the same products or providing the same services. The
market structure bares great influence on the actions and reactions of firms operating within the
market, it also bares great significance on the way a firm will market and price the available
products and services. Market structure is also a key component for a company... Show more

For a company to possess that freedom of entering and exiting implies that resources such as
capital are mobile and that it will not result in the creation of barriers to entry. An example of these
possible barriers of entry could be increasingly high start up costs that may incur for a new
organization.
1.2.Pricing Strategies
When figuring pricing strategies within the perfect competition model a firm must consider that the
attributes of the product and any cost advantages will eventually be exposed, and will either be
mimicked or beaten (Whinston, 1995). Though the perfect competition model is ideal, it is
seemingly impossible for a single firm to consistently produce its services and goods at the lowest
cost. Thus, the perfect competitor must continuously seek to improve cost management, its
production technology, and even the economies of scope. The most effective way to do so is
through the cost leadership strategy (Kimmons, 2013). This strategy both requires and allows the
corporation to constantly seek ways to further decrease costs, enabling the firm to stay more
advanced with leverage over the competition. This process needs to be repetitive, in order to
maintain established leverage.

fellow beings; I find them so difficult to understand. But I have a tidy mind, and untidy lives
irritate me (page 20). However, as the novel develops, Flora slowly begins to look after the
