Although Perry is a monstrous killer, Capote argues murderers with mental struggles
cannot control their homicidal actions; therefore, the death penalty is unjust for the
mentally unstable. Capote uses metaphor in Dr. Satten s observations to prove the
insanity of Perry because of his blurred mental perception of his wrongdoing at the
