A Near Death Experience
Sometimes a little near death experience helps them put things into perspective ~Annie Shropshire.
Near death experiences can be scary. Many people have had near death experiences. A lot of near
death experiences have certain things in common that occur during and afterward. Some of these
things are: change in priorities, time distortion, and fear. These are the three most common things to
experience.
Change in priorities is the thing that you hold more important than any other thing in your life changes
to something different. After Tom Benecke had his near death experience he saw spending time with
his wife was more important than a piece of paper. As he saw the yellow paper, the pencil flying,
scooped off the desk and, unimpeded by the glassless window, sail out into the night and out of his
life, Tom Benecke burst into laughter and then closed the door behind him. In Patrick Daniels he
learned to slow down and not get angry at things in life. In Scott Lear story he learned not to let the
little things bother him. The other thing people experience is loss of time. ... Show more content on

Moll Flanders And The Preface
The justifications made by the narrator of Moll Flanders and the anonymous author of the Preface are
not convincing because their claims are deceitful and appear to act in each individuals own self
interests. The narrator influences the story through unbelievable, and sometimes excessive,
explanations which control the readers thoughts about Moll Flanders choices and actions. Similarly,
the author of the Preface directs the attention onto the readers judgements to defend the novel. Both
the narrator and the author of the Preface abuse their power as storytellers in attempts to control the
judgements of the readers and rationalize telling a story full of crime and wickedness. The author of
the Preface recognizes that the readers will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The beginning of the novel does not agree with the justifications made by the author of the Preface.
The readers soon discover that the story s narrator is unreliable, which makes it difficult to for the
reader to have something of instruction from the story because the narrator may be lying to obscure
the truth (author of Preface 5). The narrator, who goes by the name of Moll Flanders , does not expose
herself (Defoe 7). When the novel begins she exclaims that My True Name is so well known in the
Records, or Registers at Newgate, and in the Old Baily....that it is not expected I should set my Name
(Defoe 7). The narrator conceals her true name to the readers because she recognizes that the
proclamation of her name may result in an imprisonment for prior felonies. It is at this blurred point of
view of the narrator that readers start to doubt if the events in the novel are true because they don t
receive a genuine guide through the story. Instead, they are left with a nameless raconteur that conveys
a personal account without disclosing her true self. The author of the Preface and the narrator exploit
their power which, therefore, makes their justifications unconvincing. Moll Flanders often provides a
passionate rationalization for her bad behavior which impacts the readers emotions and causes them to
feel remorse for her. Many times throughout the

Analysis Of The Poem The Woman Warrior By Maxine Hong...
The Unescapable Net:
Tradition vs Transformation in Kingston s Ideology The Woman Warrior, written by Chinese
American author Maxine Hong Kingston in 1976, blends traditional Chinese folktales and memoir,
and portrays the early 20th century Chinese history in a Chinese American perspective. For Maxine, it
seems Chinese history means social and cultural constrains from conventional Chinese doctrines,
especially regarding the social status of womanhood, the blind collectivism, and superstition in old
China. Maxine s negative depiction of Chinese history partially reflects the bureaucracy of patriarchal
and feudal system in old China, but more importantly, reveals Maxine herself, a third culture kid, as a
paradox: she is eager to incorporate into the American mainstream society by resisting her Chinese
cultural background, but at the same time, her unconscious actions imply that her Chinese background
is a historical baggage that she could never discard of. By retelling experiences and legends from her
mother and even her grandmother s generation, Maxine suggests how she as a Chinese American
woman is in a awkward state between tradition and transformation, and presents a cultural clash
between America and China. Maxine s portray of women s role under the male dominated society and
feudal system suggests the first paradox in her ideology protesting male dominance, but at the same
time admitting it. Women, in ancient China, are usually treated as lower social status and

Honor Killings Research Paper
An honor killing is an epitomized murder committed against a woman for actual or perceived immoral
behavior that is deemed to have breached the honor code of a household or community. It is the
perpetrators belief that the victim has brought shame or dishonor upon the family name or societal
standard. These so called honor codes are the product of condoning deep seated patriarchal societal
and ethnic injustices, where women are compelled to assume all responsibility for upholding the
morality of an entire culture. It is the most extreme case of gender based violence. Honor killings are
the ultimate sanction against women who are deemed to have offended the collective morality of a
group. Typical behaviors or suspicion of actions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a 60 year old Pakistani man. He would abuse her daily and even when she begged him to stop, he

scolded her and said that her life was her husband, and nothing more. Gul wanted to leave her
husband, and the life thrust upon her. She fell in love with a man from Afghanistan. Gul decided to run
away from her husband in Pakistan and left for Afghanistan. Gul hoped and prayed that her family

Gul 15 times. A passerby found Gul laying in her blood and parts of her brain hanging out of her skull.
The passerby quickly rushed Gul to a hospital with little chance of her survival. She went into surgery

government wanted nothing to do with her, and she was dead to her family. She stayed in the clinic for

Political issues on Student Loans As a student who has difficulties affording increasingly high tuition
in college, financial aid and student loans is one of the biggest concerns for me. Even though with a
low interest rate of student loans, it is still hard to pay back the debt after graduation. As in recent
years, the cost of universities in America has rose to such a level that it has exceeded the rate of
inflation. (Walker) According to CNBC, America has more than $1.2 trillion of student loan debt,
what s more, about 10 million federal student loans are taken out annually. (Orman) Face on such a
huge threat to the economy, in the meanwhile, recently there are some debates happening that has
influenced the interest rate of student loans. During recent years, the American government has been
in charge of lots of programs designed to assist students, such as providing student loans. In the
United States, there are two kinds of student loans. One is federal student loans and the other one is
called Private Loan. Federal Student loans also have three different types, which are Stafford Loans,
PLUS Loans and Perkins Loans. By giving student loans, students will have the money they

Type Of Liars Essay
Types of Liars
There is something that often troubles our society. It is worse than all kinds of cancers combined and
as horrifying to see. It is hard to catch and is more common than the common cold. It is lying.
Everyone at one point in their life has lied. Many lie to the most important people in their lives
because they don t want to create conflict between them, but it just ends up making a bigger mess than
if they would have told the truth. Some lie to other people they hardly even know because they want
to be like them or make a good impression. Everyone tells lies once in a while, although the number

Quantum Dots Lab Report
Pre Lab for the Quantum Dots Lab
Sara Lyons, Aleye Momodu, and Sam Winslow
Goal: Synthesize Cadmium Selenide (CdSe) Quantum Dot Crystals using Cadmium Oxide (CdO) and
Selenium (Se) dissolved in Triphenylphosphine solution. The product created will be a colloidal
solution, bound to the exterior of the crystal lattice and it remains soluble in the octadecene (Boatman
Nordell). Along with this the product will most likely vary in color as well due to the changes in
wavelength, energy and transitions, that all correspond to a smaller crystal. The variations in particle
size will prove to be an important feature in the experiment, so the goal is to use diverse size particles.
The crystals are created in a solution in which they cannot be filtered out since they do not settle.
Background of the Chemistry: Cadmium Selenide is an inorganic compound that is widely used for
research on nanoparticles. Cadmium Oxide is an inorganic compound that is mostly used for creating
other cadmium compounds because it crystallizes in a lattice like that of NaCl. Selenium is an element
that has nonmetal properties, but it is rarely ever found in its pure state, it is often found as a
compound. Both, selenium and cadmium are used to synthesize the CdSe used in this experiment.
Although these materials can be very hazardous, it has been proven that using these items are the best
option for this synthesis. The reasoning for this includes the temperature needed to grow them and
they have higher

The Call Of Cthulhu, By Nathaniel Hawthorne
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story, The Birth mark, and H.P. Lovecraft s horror story, The Call of
Cthulhu, there are both similarities in themes and style, however, their characterization and narration
is entirely different. This lends itself to creating two different short stories, both can be classified as
horror or suspenseful. Hawthorne s story, published earlier, shares a similar theme of humanity and
union with The Call of Cthulhu. The documentary style of H.P. Lovecraft s short story contrasts with
the less personal feel of The Birth mark. Finally, the characterization of both the birth mark and
Cthulhu create the stories and give them purpose and meaning, while acting as heavy symbols for the
purpose of extending and building a fuller, more intense plot. Both The Birth Mark and The Call of
Cthulhu discuss how humanity is fickle and humans are not the ultimate authority in the world. In
Hawthorne s story, we are able to see how the attempt to control humanity is worthless as we are all
doomed and mortal creatures. As Aylmer attempts to remove said humanity, he ultimately loses life as
they are intertwined. Similarly, Lovecraft explores a world where humans are not the only thing in the
world, nor the most powerful. Humans are shown as weak, especially in comparison to the creature
Cthulhu. This is remarkably similar to the power that the birth mark exhibits over Aylmer as he allows
it to encroach on his sanity. The birth mark and Cthulhu both

The Difference Between Arial And Helvetica
The drive to the core of absence is also evident in the realm of type design. In 1932, Beatrice Warde,
an American typographic expert, published an essay The Crystal Goblet , or known as Printing Should
Be Invisible , insists on an invisible or transparent typography in order to elevate the printed words. In
her essay, Warde adopted a metaphor that the design for typefaces should be as transparent as crystal
glass for wine (Warde, 1936, p.6). A typeface, as a container, is calculated to reveal and not to hide the
beautiful content which it is meant to contain. The design of the container should not call undue notice
to itself. Her theory of invisible typefaces is in line with Modernist simplicity as well as functionality,

They both are sans serif typefaces that are universally embraced by different applications. At first
glance, they seem extremely similar. But if designers examine the characters in each typeface closely,
the differences between them become apparent. Mark Simonson, an American graphic designer,
produced an analysis of these two typefaces, showing how much more refined Helvetica than that of
Arial (Simonson, 2001). The primary difference between the two is the treatments of their endings.
While Helvetica is vertically cut, Arial is slightly angled. For instance, the tail of the a is gently curved
in Helvetica, as is the first connection of the bowl to the stem, but not in Arial. Similarly, the top of the
t and the ends of the strokes in the C and S are perfectly horizontal in the former, but slightly angled in
the latter. Even though the distinguishing details are so tiny that cannot be noticed unless they are
scrutinized as Simonson has done. Yet it is these subtleties that constitute Helvetica a finer example of
design than Arial, especially for professionals. Functionally the two types are roughly equal, both are
admirably clear, but aesthetically Helvetica is

Examples Of Marxism In The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald s literary work, The Great Gatsby, creates an artificial world in which the main
characters desire the clout of money; where the characters, the plot, and the setting are deeply
immersed in a capitalistic vow to shatter the American Dream, allowing certain socialistic aspects to
emerge with regularity. This oppression of power framework can be connected to a Marxist Theory of
belief through power struggles amongst characters. The main characters face oppression against one
another in such senses allowing for corruptive factors to be engaged. Corruption and innocence of
Gatsby and Tom s weaknesses toward the women of the novel create such viewpoints that are
construed within the text as well as a hint toward the negative side of Capitalism and the promotion of

thinks he is buying a dream. At one point in the novel, Nick states that, human sympathy has its limits
(Fitzgerald 143). Even Nick, the narrator of the story, who has a lesser amount of money than the rest
of them and seemingly better morals than the others, is non humanitarian. He places a boundary on his
human emotion. Later, Nick chides Daisy and Tom for retreating back into their money or their vast
carelessness... and let other people clean up the messes they made (Fitzgerald 188). At this juncture,
Nick is using Daisy and Tom to typify the entire upper class. The carelessness they embody

Essay about Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
A Fellow s Long Worth
How does one describe a poet when he has already described himself with his own words? Although
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow isn t popular, he is such a poet. As described by Arnold Bennett,
Longfellow is the chief minor poet of the English language. Among a harsh lineup of critics, however,
they claimed he fell short of literary. This is quite the contrary.
Longfellow attended Bowdoin college, near Portland, Maine where he was born and raised. The
college offered him the newly formed position as chair of modern languages. Two things are striking
about this event: the informality of the academic approach to language studies and the obvious natural
gift that Longfellow possessed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of scribbling lofty lyrics and inscrutable stanzas, Longfellow s poetry is simple, flows with a
definite rhyme scheme, and allows anybody to encompass themselves with Longfellow s visions.
Some poems dealing with nature and his visions are Daylight and Moonlight, Hymn to the Night,
Daybreak and The Rainy Day. Each one describes a different time of day, whether it personifies the
wind in Daybreak or gives a life lesson about gloomy days in The Rainy Day. Unlike his
contemporaries, Emerson, Poe, and Whitman, his poetry isn t far fetched or musty, trying to collapse
the mind with theory and philosophy.
Even in his longer works, like Hiawatha, The Skeleton in Armor and Paul Revere s Ride, Longfellow
takes his pen and tells fervent stories that echo inside the reader. He wished to write not only for the
few who think but also for the many who feel, assuming a certain community of nature, interest, and
cultural inheritance between himself and his readers (Wagenknecht 22). Much like Thomas Paine in
The Crisis Papers, Longfellow knew his readers, and although they weren t educated in the
fundamentals of poetry, they were educated enough to read. This powered his poetry and therefore
nature and emotion gorged his writing and propelled it forward, even if some critics and historians
view him as an underdog. It is time to rediscover Longfellow,

The Teleological Argument For The Existence Of Intelligent...
The teleological argument successfully provides proof for the existence of intelligent design by
utilizing intricate scientific data in order to demonstrate intent and purpose in the creation of the
universe, as opposed to random and highly improbable occurrences. The purpose of the teleological
argument is to present complex details of the universe as evidence that it was designed by an
intelligent mind. It suggests that since the universe is so compound and full of fine tuned intricacies,
there must have been a designer who implemented these specific details in order to create a fully
functioning and sustainable universe. These details have been found from a biological perspective, as
well as from a cosmological scale. The teleological argument is commonly used to provide evidence
for the existence of the theistic God, or at least an intelligent designer. In contrast, those who are
against the teleological argument generally believe that the universe is a result of an accidental
explosion. Although there are many theories that use the teleological argument to provide strong
support for intelligent design, there are also well developed theories that oppose the teleological
argument. A philosopher who presents several contradicting arguments to the teleological argument is
David Hume. In his writing, The Dialogue Concerning Natural Religion, he presents his critique of the
teleological argument and expresses his opposition through the fictional character Philo. In one of

Analysis Of Communications Service Providers ( Csps )

volume, variety and velocity of information due to next generation mobile network roll outs, increased
use of smartphones, the rise of social media, and the impending explosion of the Internet of Things
(IoT). There are two additional Vs to consider as well: veracity and value. Collectively, this outlines
the big data challenge that CSPs face today. There is more data from more sources being generated
faster every day, and CSPs must determine which bits and bytes have to most impact on business

Now, the majority mobile users use smartphones, and as a result, consume far more data than feature
phone users. This has driven traffic levels through the roof, and, coupled with the highly competitive
mobile market, created a need for better customer care. In fact, as we ve written in Pipeline numerous
times, the customer experience is a major differentiating factor in telecommunications and one of the
keys to success.
One way to leverage big data is through proactive intelligence. By combining multiple data streams
into an analytical framework, service providers can understand patterns, behaviors, and service
characteristics in exciting new ways, and build automated response solutions that head off problems
before they occur. A perfect application of this is proactive customer service. By correlating network,
application, location, and customer data, along with third party, unstructured data sources, into a single
tool, customer service agents can be presented with a solution before a customer utters a word. One
service provider that Pipeline interviewed for this story is able to pull from 65 data sources in real
time, and display resolutions in less than half a second to care agents. This is clearly a competitive
advantage, as it reduces handling times and therefore lowers costs, and delivers rapid issue resolution
to customers. This can be further extended to self care portals, and even further modified to

Polygamy in Canada Essay
Within Canada we have a generous amount of freedom but this leads to the abuse of our system. This
is especially true with regards to polygamy in Bountiful, BC. Because women are susceptible to
mental abuse in polygamist relationships it should continue to be illegal in Canada. If this law is in
enforced it would help women to be freed of the oppression caused by male domination, eliminate the
need for women to suppress feelings that conflict with the ideals of the polygamy life, and aid in
avoiding depression resulting from the build up of concealed feelings.

Providing such controls permits women from becoming independent: to think emotionally and

dominant role and provide authority due to the idea: women report more intense and persistent anger
than do men (88:1546). However, even though it is true that women are more susceptible to revealing
their emotions; women are just as capable as men to run their lives in a constructive, healthy way.
Polygynist men have hidden behind the blanket of religion to justify their male supremacy and
dismantle the strength and equality of women in a whole.
Many women in polygynist relationships tend to hide their feelings, but why? Daphne Braham writes
[women are] taught to suppress [these] emotions and to put all their energy into obeying the word of

The Pathophysiology Of Mark s Presenting Compliant
Throughout a person s life milestones, there are expected physical, psychosocial and cognitive
developments in relation to health aspects within certain age groups. For an instance, a school aged
boy would respond to their diagnosis and treatment very differently to a fully grown man. At the age
of 8, a child often experiences a shift from the pre operational thought when they were pre schoolers
to concrete operational thought. Mark who is 8 years old was undergoes an appendectomy and been
diagnosed with a gangrenous perforated appendix with peritonitis. This essay will be describing the
pathophysiology of Mark s presenting compliant and also evaluating on the nursing role to deliver
developmentally appropriate nursing care with the focus on Mark s growth and developmental stage,
his family centred care and the effects of hospitalization on mark and his family. Mark s presenting
complaint was associated to the digestive system function failure. All living organisms are able to
grow, develop and reproduce through the consumptions and supplements of essential nutrients and
vitamins that help flourishing their bodies. This is done by the food ingestion, which is taking in food
or drink through the mouth, then these are passed to the digestive system where food is processed into
forms that the body can easily utilised. Hence, obstruction to this system can cause enormously harm
to the body (Peate Gormley Fleming, 2014). The digestive system consists of many organs, in

Ventricular Fibrillation And Its Effects On The Heart
Ventricular fibrillation (VF) is a life threatening condition in which the signaling in the ventricles of
the hearts is no longer coordinated. The loss of this coordinated signaling causes rapid, random and
chaotic signaling leading to spasms of the ventricular walls. During VF, blood is not being circulated
to the brains and the rest of the body and is therefore deprived of oxygen. This condition can be
reversed by using a defibrillator, which sends an electric discharge of direct current to the victim (1).
Improper signaling of electrical activity in the heart can also lead to a rapid heart rate. This type of
tachycardia is called ventricular tachycardia (VT) and may lead to VF (Figure 1). Pulseless VT is also
with defibrillation and VF and VT are both considered shockable heart rhythms (2,3).
A large and increasing proportion of patients presents with non shockable rhythms in out of hospital
cardiac arrest (OHCA). These non shockable rhythms are pulseless electrical activity (PEA) and
asystole. During PEA, a normal heart rhythm is observed on the electrocardiogram (ECG), but without
cardiac output. Asystole is a condition without ventricular complexes. The heart muscles fail to
contract due to the lack of cardiac electrical activity. Both PEA and asystole are treated with
cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) without defibrillation, combined with epinephrine administered
intravenously (4). Non shockable rhythms are associated with high mortality. The survival rates of

Education, Education And The Value Of Education
It is clear that colleges are starting to fall behind on teaching the basic principles that should come
with an education. It is shocking that my underlying fear of society not being taught enough to survive
in the real world is indeed true. With public education being degraded to only useless common core
principles, it is almost like society is purposely being dumbed down for the benefit of the elite. These
essays did, in fact, educate me on the valuable importance of the humanities along with STEM
education as both are beneficial when joined together. I have learned that the humanities are actually
the key to creating a well informed, educated person with the ability to think for themselves. I have
always had questions regarding the structure of education and its higher cost when I was younger,
moreover, I will say that these six essays have answered the questions I have always pondered. These
essays were beneficial in convincing me of the value of an education by answering my long awaited
question about education, convincing me of why the humanities are important alongside STEM based
learning, and that our society is on the path to a downfall if these problems involving the lack of the
humanities are not solved soon. When I first read these essays, I was regarding them with the mindset
of another assignment I would be compelled to complete as I was not taking them as seriously when I
tried reading them with the mindset of just trying to complete an assignment. However,

Globalization And Its Impact On Socio Economy
Globalization and its Impact on Socio Economy in India
Dr. Mahendra Singh
Associate Professor
Department of Sociology
Madhav University, Pindwara (Rajasthan)
Abstract:
Globalization was adopted by Indian Government during 1990 91 when Indian Economy was in a
very bad shape. It was, however, adopted not as a solution to deteriorating Indian economy but to
enable itself to get further foreign exchange loans from World Bank as its foreign exchange reserves
were reduced to mere 3 weeks outflow. To rectify its ailing financial health, Government
simultaneously decided to amend its economic policies and go for privatization liberalization of its
economy. These decisions had immediate positive effect. However, globalization has proved to be a
double edged weapon. It did help government temporarily meet its emergent need of foreign exchange
but it has, as a by product, caused some permanent damage to Indian Economic system and Indian
social structure.
Key Words: Privatization, Liberalization, current account deficits, disinvestment, western culture.

Gestalt Theory
What is Gestalt Counseling?
You may want to know something more about the gestalt approach to counselling before deciding to
see a gestalt counsellor. Or you may just be interested in different approaches to counselling. On this
page I have attempted to set out some of the basic ideas of the gestalt approach. Some of the ideas are
complex and open to different interpretations, so this can be little more than an introduction. I have
also included links to other sites and articles, as well as some suggested reading.
The Gestalt Concept of Self
We all talk about ourselves in the first person I did this , my book , I felt happy etc., but what do we

For this reason the aim of gestalt counselling is to help the client gain self awareness.
Self awareness is also the aim of many spiritual paths and there are some similarities between
Buddhism and gestalt theory. In the therapy room the counsellor will help the client to gain awareness
through asking questions and making appropriate challenges. As individuals we can help to develop
our self awareness through self questioning (note this does not mean self criticism) and through
meditation. Meditation is a helpful technique for many of those suffering from emotional and
psychological problems, as well as those looking for personal and spiritual development.
The Here and Now
Gestalt therapy focuses on what is going on in the here and now, i.e. in the therapy room, rather than
what may have happened in the past. We are not influenced by the past as such, but by our memory of
the past, by the behaviours that we learnt in the past. All the information that a client needs to develop
self awareness is available in the here and now. A gestalt therapist will look at what is actually there
the client s body language, tone of voice, what is not being said as well as what is being said etc.,
rather than what they think should be there. This is often referred to as the Phenomenological
approach. The therapist will try to put their own prejudices to one side and experience the world
through the client s eyes. A gestalt therapist may note

The Development Of Management Theory
The main focus behind the development of management theory is the quest for good ways to make use
of managerial means. Management theory evolves constantly with the continuous stream of new ideas
that come from the attempts to transform theory into practice, and vice versa (Aguinaldo Powell,
2002). Progression in management theory normal happen as key personnel discover great methods to
accomplish the most important management responsibilities: planning, organiz ing, leading, and

Alain De Botton Essay
When critically analyzing an academic work we must analyze not only the work, but the source as
well. Evaluating the source of the work not only gives better a foundation for the work itself but also
creates a validation and a measure of the level of integrity. This typically involves looking at both the
author and his work. The author s background and motive are key factors in this validation of the
work. Alain de Botton, a writer, and study of philosophy, has written many best sellers on what is
described as intelligent self help books. By simplifying concepts that many of philosophy s great

Market Structure Of A Business
Today, the forces of competition, technology, and globalization have converged to spur innovation and
to transform the way business is done in the securities industry. (Arthur Levitt) Market structure is
best defined as the organization and other characteristics of a market. How a business succeeds is
based on the market, they choose to enter into. Another tool to analyze a company s market structure,
which includes the bargaining power of buyers, bargaining power of suppliers, threat of new
competitors entering into the market, threat of substitutes and the intensity of competition. Some of
the most important work in the development of economic theory is associated with the study market
structure. From the perspective of a platform owner, when it owns part of the business on one side of
the market, there are no straightforward answer as to whether having the rest of the business owned by
another is advantageous or not. In my opinion a perfectly competition market is the best to open a
business. I have outlined my thoughts and why a perfectly competitive market is the best market. A
perfect competing market is a hypothetical market where competition is at its greatest possible level.
Neoclassical economists argued that perfect competitive would produce the best possible outcomes for
consumers, and society. The best market to have a business grow and develop in, would be a prefect
competing market. There are many key characteristics of perfectly competitive markets to

The Marine Corp
General James Amos, Commandant of the Marine Corp, defines and delivers the long term strategic
strategy for the United Stated Marine Corps (USMC) in Expeditionary Force 21 (EF 21) dated 4
March 2014. The premise of the document is simple. It is his vision for the future Corps, and of how
the USMC must build, shape, reorganize, in order to, as General Amos puts it, be the right force in the
right place and the right time . This vision is addressed through the succinct and logical way ahead.
Expeditionary Force 21 begins with what is the context for the document. This section, expresses how
EF 21 replaces Marine Corps Vision and Strategy 2025 as the capstone document for the Corps.
Expressed in this section, is explained how the document is designed to realign the focus of the Corps
with the focus of the Department of Navy. This realignment will be achieved by nesting with the
Cooperative Strategy for 21st Century Sea power. Next, the role of the Marine Corps is identified.
Here there are eight roles of the Corps that are identified. Seven of the eight roles of the Corps are
taken almost verbatim from DoDD 5100.01, Functions of the Department of Defense and Its Major

The safety of geological disposal of highly radioactive waste depends highly on the characteristics of
the rock formations around it from which a repository would be hollowed out. Many geological
formations are believed to have remained undisturbed for millions and millions of years, it appeared
technically possible to isolate radioactive materials from the environment until they decayed high
enough so that the level of the radioactive material is not harmful.
Scientific confidence about the subject on the deep geologic disposal has been more difficult to apply

unacceptable flaws, such as groundwater flows or earthquake vulnerability, that could release
radioactivity into the environment, this is not good for nature.

The Issue Of American Patriotism
Nationalism and patriotism is a very touchy subject for some people just due to the fact of everyone
having their own opinion on what it means. Some people just do not know the difference between the
two, or just don t know if there even is a difference. They are very often commonly confused as the
same thing and I can see why at first glance, but after searching this subject on many credible sources
I have come to find many clarifying and interesting facts on this particular topic.
First of all, the actual definition of American patriotism is the pride and devotion to one s homeland.
As everything does, there are pros and cons to being a patriot. For example, a pro would be that it
leads us to feel proud of and for our county. That ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unless your knowledge is of a universal type, equally useful and valued anywhere; then it makes no
difference where you live, as long as you enjoy your life. Another being specialization; patriotism
instinctively guides citizens to discover their natural and cultural specialties: their own resources,
traditions, industries, and identity that has existed for ages. They will not imitate or copy another
country blindly. Loving a place makes one automatically love, learn, cherish, and improve the special
qualities about it/them. A couple of the others are commitment and security. Most cons of patriotism
fall under the category of centralization being harmful. They claim that the benefits enjoyed by
centralized countries will eventually be shared by everyone worldwide. They say that it is not a big
problem to desert some countries as long as citizens are happy and successful elsewhere. They also
claim that in over populated countries, or those with high unemployment rates, its better when people
leave. I do not neccesarily agree with all of this but I do think the majority of the claims made are true.
Nationalism has two definitions that basically mean the same thing but one is more easily understood.

2. Introduction
Amongst the main rivers in Yorkshire, the River Aire runs 71 miles (141km) in length where the river
is partially canalised (Aire and Calder Navigation). It rises about 300m above sea level, with a basin
area of 1004km2. The source of the River Aire is situated in North Yorkshire, rising from Malham
Cove at Malham Tarn, running beneath the ground towards Malham village. Of the towns the river
flows through include Gargrave, Skipton, Cononley, then passes through more industrial areas such as
Saltaire and Shipley, heading towards Leeds. The mouth of the river is at River Ouse at Airmyn.
Prior to the 1970 s, severe pollution from raw sewage outflows resulted in the absence of fish and
associated wildlife. There was also a lack of activities taking place that were recreational for locals
and tourists alike. Therefore, because of the poor water quality, from upstream areas in Shipley
towards the Ouse at the village of Airmyn, the River Aire gained a bad reputation as being heavily
polluted.

Rain In The Great Gatsby
In The Great Gatsby, the titular character is far from perfect. He might have obtained all the success he

However, Gatsby came across a saving grace in the form of water. Whenever Gatsby came into
contact with huge amounts of water, he got a much needed cleansing of all of his sins. In chapter 5 of
The Great Gatsby, Nick arranged for Gatsby and Daisy to meet at his house. On the day of the
meeting, it rained heavily. This rain is very significant. According to How to Read Literature Like a

and the rain cleansed Gatsby from his past actions. He made a good deal of his money illicitly selling

there s no denying that floodwater has redeeming properties. So, even though he wasn t trying to

nation. And why shouldn t it be? The articles and television news coverage of celebrities is going to
sell a lot more magazines and draw in a lot more viewers than something depressing and/or hard to
understand like a genocide. Let s face it, when people come home from a long, hard day at work, they
want to be entertained, not forced to think of the bad things happening in the world. Plus, thanks to a
sub par educational system in the United States that teaches to the test and lets important subjects such
as geography and social sciences fall by the wayside, many people don t even know where these

Summary Of Melquades In One Hundred Years Of Solitude
A person is shaped by where he or she comes from. It affects who the person is and how the person
interacts with others. In One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Marquez, the mysterious
origins of the gypsy Melquíades largely impacts his character and relationships. Unlike the Buendia
family, it is unknown where Melquíades originated. His mysterious origins reflect his supernatural and
magical characteristics, contributing to the novel s magic realism.
In the beginning of the novel, since the first page, the readers are introduced to Melquíades as a gypsy
who brings mysterious inventions and magical items to the village of Macondo. A heavy gypsy with
an untamed beard and sparrow hands, who introduced himself as Melquíades, put on bold public
demonstration of what he himself called the eighth wonder of the learned alchemist of Macedonia
(Marquez 1). This description is the only piece of information pertaining to Melquíades character the
readers receive when introduced to him, leading the readers to wonder where he came from and the
obscurity of his origins. His origins are unknown and enigmatic even though he is most important
character besides the Buendia family. As the readers progresses through the novel, they learn more of
his mysterious origins and of the magical inventions he brings to Macondo, shaping Melquíades as a
person of magical origins which allows him to perform magic. For example, to the readers,
Melquíades distorts fantasy and reality with magic because he brings new inventions and items, such
as a magnet, ice, and a magic carpet, fascinating the people of Macondo with what he brings. The
magic carpet furthers the idea of his magical origin; if he has a magical item in his possession, he must
be of magical origins to be able obtain and control such item. In addition, tales of his adventure
throughout the world present Melquíades as a person of magic and wisdom, having his immense
wisdom and his mysterious breadth (6). He had traveled all over the world, miraculously surviving
from all the plagues and disasters he encountered. His character is further influenced by his
mysterious origins when Melquíades returns to Macondo young and fit in contrast to his elderly

Final Exam: Section A, Question 1: Core Competences are a route to competitive advantage but are
hard to identify and develop Overview of the essay This essay expands on the internal aspects of a
business and how they help a company or an organization. I will be further discussing the implications
of incorrectly identifying competencies and vice versa. Also, there are three main ways of identifying
the competencies, which I elaborate on with the use of a few examples at the end tying the points up
with a clearer picture. In this essay, I have also shed some light onto the VRINE model explaining it in
detail through various examples of my own as well as through the presentation conducted by our
Professor. The role of the senior managers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(8) The wireless data communications solutions company expanded to many countries, Middle East
being one of the major ones. Pinnacle also applied the blue ocean strategy (Figure 1). (9) Here, they
avoid going head to head with the competition and expand to new markets. One of the reasons behind
pursuing such a strategy is for a first mover advantage, early brand creation, more time understanding
the markets before competition arrives, and more profits for the company. So how do growth
strategies differ for small and big sized companies? Using these two examples let me discuss the
different approaches of growth strategies of a big and small sized company. References: (1)

Joropo Dance Essay
For centuries, Venezuela and Colombia have been home to the unique genre of traditional music called
joropo that was believed to have originated in the 18th century within rural settings. Characterized by
its African, European and indigenous influences, the term joropo was first used to describe dances and
festive events such as parties, family reunions and picnics. Joropo spread across Venezuela and
Colombia thus various regions adopted a slightly different style of joropo. Joropo llanero, for
example, comes from the Orinoco plains of Colombia and western Venezuela and has grown to have
worldwide recognition. Formally identified as Fandango, Joropo llanero has grown to become a genre
associated with traditional dancing/singing, the country s rich history and cultural pride. In ... Show

It has grown to be characterized with aggressive singing and fast feet movement called zapateo (foot
stomping), including couples dance. Dancing is a key element that add sounds and visuals to the
joropo genre. The joropo dance is particularly a heteronormative dance meaning danced by a female
and male. The dance demonstrates the male dancer as trying to impress the female dancer through the
use of zapateo. Both dancers face one another, holding each other s arms, gracefully move together,
performing many spins and fast movements. While dancing joropo, the man begins stomping his feet
to the rhythm. It looks a lot like tap dancing with a partner ( Dance sampler). Dancers utilize cortizas
which are shoes used for zapateo that produces that slap/ stomping sound .Alongside the use of

United States Department Of Justice And The Securities And...
The United States Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission rarely enforced
the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, enacted in 1977, until 2010 over a decade since its modern reform
in 1998. This surge in penalization of unethical acts such as bribery and other methods used to ensure
foreign business ventures has been called a new era of FCPA enforcement by the DOJ, resulting in
$1.8 billion in payments accrued from domestic firms and their foreign partners, compared to
$300,000 in 2000 (Kohler). Because of ambiguity within the legislation, especially the undefined
terms foreign official and obtain or retain business, the U.S. government is able to manipulate the
FCPA for monetary gain, as well as shape foreign economies based upon their own values. The FCPA
was composed with good intentions: to end corrupt trade and to create a more even playing field for
American businesses. With that goal in mind, the Act is seemingly viewed as a normative standard to
promote fairness, asserting that transparency and accountability are essential to building an honest and
open global society. However the unclear articulation of the texts have developed inconsistencies in
the way the FPCA is enforced, allowing organizations such as the SEC to utilize its broadness to target
businesses, namely through the agencies interpretation of who a foreign official is and what it means
to obtain or retain business. Firstly, according to the SEC, a foreign official is anyone

The History of the Terrorist Group Hamas Essay
Terrorism in the Middle East has brought the Israeli Palestinian conflict to the attention of the world.
These terrorist groups use murder, bombs, threats, and other violent acts to get their way politically.
Hamas, the organization that has replaced Fatah as the representative of the Palestinians, is a leading
sponsor of terrorism. The Hamas are the leading reason there is not peace in the middle east as they
strongly embrace terrorism. This group was created in 1978 and continues to expand its power today.
It began as a branch of Egypt s Muslim Brotherhood. This terrorist group has several goals ranging
from creating a Islamic state to continuing the armed struggle against Israeli occupation of Palestine
territories. Their acts of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hamas involvement in the government expanded from there reaching to armed warfare on December
27th of last year. Hama s main goal is to make a caliphate that includes west strip, gaza strip and
Israel. They are willing to get this by any means. However they also focus on short goals which
include replacing Islamic and palestine territories with states. They want to be recognized on a world
wide scale. They slowly work towards their goal of getting rid of the palestine and islamic territories
and replacing them with a islamic state in palestine. They try to achieve this goal by any means. They
take drastic measures to put fear in their enemies. Since their creation in 1987 they have been
responsible for at least 557 deaths1 with a strong chance of more that were not confirmed. They are
best known for their car bombings on civilians but also they have committed suicide bombings, plane
bombings, and other murders. Between April 6th and March 1994 they had 1 car bombing killing
eight, and three suicide bombings killing a total 72 innocent civilians.2 Even as recent as 2000 they
have killed 114 civilians in bombings. They are completely ruthless there is video evidence of them
picking up young children and using them as human shields from firing enemies. Also they have been
accused of torturing prisoners, firing on unarmed

Transfer Of 40 % Ownership
A. Transfer of 40% Ownership As a sole proprietorship, Mr. Jones owns 100% of his used car
dealership. He has full authority to make big business decisions and reports business income from the
Schedule C to his Form 1040. He is currently deciding on re electing his business and giving his
daughter 40% ownership of the business. When a current owner brings in new business associates,
allocating a percentage of ownership is crucial. The individual with majority share has the voting
power to make or break critical business decisions. An even 50/50 spilt might create a deadlock which
could negatively impact the business. For example, another used car dealership wants to buy Mr.
Jones business. Mr. Jones thinks the sale is a good idea, but Mandy is completely against it. Since the
two are in a deadlock, the interested company may back out of the offer if a decision is not
immediately made. Using the same scenario with the 60/40 split, Mr. Jones is a majority shareholder
and has the voting authority over Mandy to accept the offer despite any rejections (Duff 2016).
Financially speaking, the duo is better off with the 60/40 split. The S corporation election allows for
income and deductions from the business to flow down to the taxpayers. If Mr. Jones decided to stay a
sole proprietor, he claims the entire $1,200,000 on his Form 1040. If he decides to elect the S
corporation status with a 60/40 split, he claims $720,000 of the business income, as well as 60% of the
business

One common theme in both novels is there was always difficulties to overcome. There are different
difficulties depending on the situation a person was in but every Soviet citizen had to overcome
difficulties. In Sofia Petrovna there was the challenge of overcoming life with her son being in the
Gulag camp system and not having a job. Sofia overcomes this by becoming an optimist. She never
loses hope that her son Kolya will be released early she tells people her son was released early. By
having a positive outlook on life she forgets the troubling situation she is in and continues to live her
life. In Gulag Voices there were many challenges living inside the Gulag camp system. There were

Protest Of The NFL Protest And The Protest In The Anthem
Recently NFL players have decided to kneel during the playing of the national anthem. The reason
they are doing this is to protest a number of things ranging from the unfair treatment of African
Americans to protesting against various things in their local communities. The protests started out as
just a few players taking knees during the anthem, but this past week it escalated to the majority of the
NFL taking part in some sort of protest. What sparked these players to join in was a tweet by Donald
Trump that read, If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL,or other
leagues, he or she should not be allowed to disrespect our Great American Flag (or Country) and
should stand for the National Anthem. If not, YOU RE FIRED. Find something else to do! (Trump).
This tweet led most NFL players to take part in their teammates protest to join in solidarity. While
many people believe that these non violent protests are effective, there is also a large number of
people who believe that these protests are disrespectful to our flag and country. They want their
professional athletes to stick to sports and not make it so political. James Robbins shared his opinion
on these protests in an opinion piece for USA Today. He believes that the protests are taking away
from the fun stating, The NFL is on a politically correct suicide course, alienating fans and wrecking
ratings (Robbins). He goes on to say that Colin Kaepernick started this issue by taking a knee

The Gilden Age is a age in time when inventions and technology start to rise in the country of the

Andrew Carnegie is known for being a Captain of Industry who served their country greatly. Carnegie
got this title since he ended up one of the richest men on the planet. One motivation behind why
Carnegie is viewed as a Captain of Industry is on the grounds that he helped deliver steel in a more
proficient manner. Another motivation behind why Carnegie is a Captain of Industry is on account of
without him we would not have libraries that are interested in each race, culture, and religion.
Carnegie is likewise viewed as a Captain of Industry in light of the fact that despite the fact that he
gave all his cash away at last, Carnegie was considered as one of the most powerful person in the
United States. Despite the fact that Carnegie is known for being a Captain of Industry, he is also
known for being a Robber Baron. Carnegie is a viewed as a Robber Baron since he had his specialists
work in his factories which have poor and dangerous working conditions. Carnegie is additionally a
Robber Baron in the fact that as he succeeded and moved toward becoming the most richest men in
the world. The last thing behind why Carnegie is a Robber Baron is because of when his specialists
got up from working for essentially no compensation and went on strike which he chose to have one
of his head representatives stop the strike to get Carnegie laborers to work for him once more. To
finish up Carnegie changed the world with his innovation of steel and he changed history due to his

Aristotles concept of catharsis
Mimesis, Catharsis, and Pleasure:
An Investigation into Aristotle s Tragic Pleasure
Bradley Elicker
Temple University
Abstract: Aristotle writes the Poetics as an investigation into representational art and, more
specifically, as an investigation into the art form of tragedy. While Aristotle goes into great detail
regarding the technical aspects of creating and appreciating a work of tragedy, he is somewhat lacking
in his descriptions of how tragedy is enjoyed by an audience. Aristotle speaks of this tragic pleasure in
two ways; as the pleasure of mimesis, and as the pleasure of catharsis. If we come to understand the
Aristotelian concept of pleasure as an activity as opposed to a process, and the distinction between

and of itself. He uses the examples of losing weight as opposed to seeing to show this difference.
Aristotle writes that when one is in the process of losing weight, there is a specific end to which the
process strives towards, this end is having lost weight. In the action of losing weight, the end is not
present. The end of having lost weight will only occur after the process of losing weight has been
completed. The same is not true of seeing. When we see something, the end is having seen it. This end
is present in the action of seeing. When we say that we see something, we can also say that we have
seen it. The end is in the action itself, and the action is its own end. In this way seeing is an activity
and not a process.
Aristotle writes that a process will have some type of duration between the time that it is begun and
the time that it is completed. When someone attempts to lose weight, there is a certain duration of time
between beginning the process of losing weight and the end of the process, having lost weight. By
contrast, an activity is complete at all times.

Fred s Applicability Case Study
The report aimed to discuss whether Fred is a resident of Australia and should be taxed from all
sources of income or only from income sourced in Australia. Applicable case law and legislation were
presented to support the evaluation.
ITAA 1997 Section 995 1 provides that the meaning of an Australian resident is defined in ITAA 1936
Section 6 (1), which sets out different criteria for determining the residency of individuals and
companies. There are four tests to ascertain that an individual is a resident or not. An individual need
only to satisfy one of these tests to qualify as a resident for tax purposes. These tests are the ordinary
concept test, the domicile test, the 183 day day test and the superannuation test.
To assist in determining the residence of a person under the ordinary concept, the following factors
need to be considered: physical presence in Australia; if the person is a visitor, the frequency,
regularity and duration of visits; the purpose of the visits to Australia and abroad; the maintenance of a
place of abode in Australia for the taxpayer s use; the person s family business and social ties; and the
person s nationality.
In the case of Levene v IRC, the House of Lords agreed that the taxpayer ... Show more content on

the Federal Court in Applegate also applies in FCT v Jenkins, where the Court concluded that the
taxpayer had a permanent place of abode outside Australia during his time in Vanuatu. The taxpayer

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act Essay
In our present day in age, technology and the internet has made it very easy to find and obtain music,
movies, television shows, and other media forms without having to pay a fee. In recent years, the
music and movie industry, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the Motion
Picture Association of America (MPAA) initiated a campaign to combat the illegal sharing and
downloading of files, songs, and movies. These illegal files are usually transferred through users and
peer to peer networks including LimeWire, FrostWire, Bearshare, Kazaa, and most importantly
Napster, which initiated it all. The illegal files are not only limited to music and movies but also
various types of pirated software, such as Microsoft Office or Adobe Photoshop, that are accompanied
with serial numbers and instructional manuals. The RIAA and MPAA argued that if an individual
exerts much time, effort, and money into a piece of art or software that they created, they should be
thoroughly compensated. Therefore, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act was created and instituted
by the United States Congress to restrict internet piracy by banning the fabrication, allocation, and
illegal distribution of pirated materials. In addition, the DMCA was used to accommodate the constant
changes of the growing digital age into current copyright laws that are usually reserved for books,
magazines, or articles. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act is just and protects the rights of the
artists and

  • 2. A Near Death Experience Sometimes a little near death experience helps them put things into perspective ~Annie Shropshire. Near death experiences can be scary. Many people have had near death experiences. A lot of near death experiences have certain things in common that occur during and afterward. Some of these things are: change in priorities, time distortion, and fear. These are the three most common things to experience. Change in priorities is the thing that you hold more important than any other thing in your life changes to something different. After Tom Benecke had his near death experience he saw spending time with his wife was more important than a piece of paper. As he saw the yellow paper, the pencil flying, scooped off the desk and, unimpeded by the glassless window, sail out into the night and out of his life, Tom Benecke burst into laughter and then closed the door behind him. Moll Flanders And The Preface The justifications made by the narrator of Moll Flanders and the anonymous author of the Preface are not convincing because their claims are deceitful and appear to act in each individuals own self interests. Similarly, the author of the Preface directs the attention onto the readers judgements to defend the novel. The beginning of the novel does not agree with the justifications made by the author of the Preface. The readers soon discover that the story s narrator is unreliable, which makes it difficult to for the reader to have something of instruction from the story because the narrator may be lying to obscure the truth (author of Preface 5). The narrator, who goes by the name of Moll Flanders , does not expose herself (Defoe 7). When the novel begins she exclaims that My True Name is so well known in the Records, or Registers at Newgate, and in the Old Baily....that it is not expected I should set my Name (Defoe 7). The narrator conceals her true name to the readers because she recognizes that the proclamation of her name may result in an imprisonment for prior felonies. It is at this blurred point of view of the narrator that readers start to doubt if the events in the novel are true because they don t receive a genuine guide through the story. Instead, they are left with a nameless raconteur that conveys a personal account without disclosing her true self. The author of the Preface and the narrator exploit their power which, therefore, makes their justifications unconvincing. • 4. Analysis Of The Poem The Woman Warrior By Maxine Hong... The Unescapable Net: Tradition vs Transformation in Kingston s Ideology The Woman Warrior, written by Chinese American author Maxine Hong Kingston in 1976, blends traditional Chinese folktales and memoir, and portrays the early 20th century Chinese history in a Chinese American perspective. For Maxine, it seems Chinese history means social and cultural constrains from conventional Chinese doctrines, especially regarding the social status of womanhood, the blind collectivism, and superstition in old China. Maxine s negative depiction of Chinese history partially reflects the bureaucracy of patriarchal and feudal system in old China, but more importantly, reveals Maxine herself, a third culture kid, as a paradox: she is eager to incorporate into the American mainstream society by resisting her Chinese cultural background, but at the same time, her unconscious actions imply that her Chinese background is a historical baggage that she could never discard of. By retelling experiences and legends from her mother and even her grandmother s generation, Maxine suggests how she as a Chinese American woman is in a awkward state between tradition and transformation, and presents a cultural clash between America and China. Maxine s portray of women s role under the male dominated society and feudal system suggests the first paradox in her ideology protesting male dominance, but at the same time admitting it. The product created will be a colloidal solution, bound to the exterior of the crystal lattice and it remains soluble in the octadecene (Boatman Nordell). Along with this the product will most likely vary in color as well due to the changes in wavelength, energy and transitions, that all correspond to a smaller crystal. The variations in particle size will prove to be an important feature in the experiment, so the goal is to use diverse size particles. The crystals are created in a solution in which they cannot be filtered out since they do not settle. Cadmium Oxide is an inorganic compound that is mostly used for creating other cadmium compounds because it crystallizes in a lattice like that of NaCl. Selenium is an element that has nonmetal properties, but it is rarely ever found in its pure state, it is often found as a compound. Lovecraft s horror story, The Call of Cthulhu, there are both similarities in themes and style, however, their characterization and narration is entirely different. This lends itself to creating two different short stories, both can be classified as horror or suspenseful. Hawthorne s story, published earlier, shares a similar theme of humanity and union with The Call of Cthulhu. The documentary style of H.P. Lovecraft s short story contrasts with the less personal feel of The Birth mark. Finally, the characterization of both the birth mark and Cthulhu create the stories and give them purpose and meaning, while acting as heavy symbols for the purpose of extending and building a fuller, more intense plot. Both The Birth Mark and The Call of Cthulhu discuss how humanity is fickle and humans are not the ultimate authority in the world. In Hawthorne s story, we are able to see how the attempt to control humanity is worthless as we are all doomed and mortal creatures. As Aylmer attempts to remove said humanity, he ultimately loses life as they are intertwined. Similarly, Lovecraft explores a world where humans are not the only thing in the world, nor the most powerful. Humans are shown as weak, especially in comparison to the creature Cthulhu. In her essay, Warde adopted a metaphor that the design for typefaces should be as transparent as crystal glass for wine (Warde, 1936, p.6). They both are sans serif typefaces that are universally embraced by different applications. At first glance, they seem extremely similar. But if designers examine the characters in each typeface closely, the differences between them become apparent. Mark Simonson, an American graphic designer, produced an analysis of these two typefaces, showing how much more refined Helvetica than that of Arial (Simonson, 2001). The primary difference between the two is the treatments of their endings. While Helvetica is vertically cut, Arial is slightly angled. For instance, the tail of the a is gently curved in Helvetica, as is the first connection of the bowl to the stem, but not in Arial. Similarly, the top of the t and the ends of the strokes in the C and S are perfectly horizontal in the former, but slightly angled in the latter. Each one describes a different time of day, whether it personifies the wind in Daybreak or gives a life lesson about gloomy days in The Rainy Day. The teleological argument successfully provides proof for the existence of intelligent design by utilizing intricate scientific data in order to demonstrate intent and purpose in the creation of the universe, as opposed to random and highly improbable occurrences. The purpose of the teleological argument is to present complex details of the universe as evidence that it was designed by an intelligent mind. It suggests that since the universe is so compound and full of fine tuned intricacies, there must have been a designer who implemented these specific details in order to create a fully functioning and sustainable universe. These details have been found from a biological perspective, as well as from a cosmological scale. The teleological argument is commonly used to provide evidence for the existence of the theistic God, or at least an intelligent designer. In contrast, those who are against the teleological argument generally believe that the universe is a result of an accidental explosion. This is done by the food ingestion, which is taking in food or drink through the mouth, then these are passed to the digestive system where food is processed into forms that the body can easily utilised. • 22. Ventricular Fibrillation And Its Effects On The Heart Ventricular fibrillation (VF) is a life threatening condition in which the signaling in the ventricles of the hearts is no longer coordinated. The loss of this coordinated signaling causes rapid, random and chaotic signaling leading to spasms of the ventricular walls. During VF, blood is not being circulated to the brains and the rest of the body and is therefore deprived of oxygen. This condition can be reversed by using a defibrillator, which sends an electric discharge of direct current to the victim (1). Improper signaling of electrical activity in the heart can also lead to a rapid heart rate. This type of tachycardia is called ventricular tachycardia (VT) and may lead to VF (Figure 1). Pulseless VT is also with defibrillation and VF and VT are both considered shockable heart rhythms (2,3). A large and increasing proportion of patients presents with non shockable rhythms in out of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). These non shockable rhythms are pulseless electrical activity (PEA) and asystole. During PEA, a normal heart rhythm is observed on the electrocardiogram (ECG), but without cardiac output. Asystole is a condition without ventricular complexes. The heart muscles fail to contract due to the lack of cardiac electrical activity. Both PEA and asystole are treated with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) without defibrillation, combined with epinephrine administered intravenously (4). Non shockable rhythms are associated with high mortality. The survival rates of PEA ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Education, Education And The Value Of Education It is clear that colleges are starting to fall behind on teaching the basic principles that should come with an education. It is shocking that my underlying fear of society not being taught enough to survive in the real world is indeed true. With public education being degraded to only useless common core principles, it is almost like society is purposely being dumbed down for the benefit of the elite. These essays did, in fact, educate me on the valuable importance of the humanities along with STEM education as both are beneficial when joined together. I have learned that the humanities are actually the key to creating a well informed, educated person with the ability to think for themselves. I have always had questions regarding the structure of education and its higher cost when I was younger, moreover, I will say that these six essays have answered the questions I have always pondered. These essays were beneficial in convincing me of the value of an education by answering my long awaited question about education, convincing me of why the humanities are important alongside STEM based learning, and that our society is on the path to a downfall if these problems involving the lack of the humanities are not solved soon. • 24. Globalization And Its Impact On Socio Economy Globalization and its Impact on Socio Economy in India Dr. Mahendra Singh Associate Professor Department of Sociology Madhav University, Pindwara (Rajasthan) Abstract: Globalization was adopted by Indian Government during 1990 91 when Indian Economy was in a very bad shape. It was, however, adopted not as a solution to deteriorating Indian economy but to enable itself to get further foreign exchange loans from World Bank as its foreign exchange reserves were reduced to mere 3 weeks outflow. To rectify its ailing financial health, Government simultaneously decided to amend its economic policies and go for privatization liberalization of its economy. These decisions had immediate positive effect. However, globalization has proved to be a double edged weapon. It did help government temporarily meet its emergent need of foreign exchange but it has, as a by product, caused some permanent damage to Indian Economic system and Indian social structure. Key Words: Privatization, Liberalization, current account deficits, disinvestment, western culture. INTRODUCTION For thousands of years, different countries have been doing trade with one another . But the process has got a tremendous boost in last about two decades due to high handed policies of International Monetary Fund, world bank and world trade organization who have been working on the agenda of developed countries like USA. • 25. Gestalt Theory What is Gestalt Counseling? You may want to know something more about the gestalt approach to counselling before deciding to see a gestalt counsellor. Or you may just be interested in different approaches to counselling. On this page I have attempted to set out some of the basic ideas of the gestalt approach. Some of the ideas are complex and open to different interpretations, so this can be little more than an introduction. I have also included links to other sites and articles, as well as some suggested reading. The Gestalt Concept of Self We all talk about ourselves in the first person I did this , my book , I felt happy etc., but what do we mean when we use the words I or me , what is this thing we call self? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this reason the aim of gestalt counselling is to help the client gain self awareness. Self awareness is also the aim of many spiritual paths and there are some similarities between Buddhism and gestalt theory. In the therapy room the counsellor will help the client to gain awareness through asking questions and making appropriate challenges. As individuals we can help to develop our self awareness through self questioning (note this does not mean self criticism) and through meditation. Meditation is a helpful technique for many of those suffering from emotional and psychological problems, as well as those looking for personal and spiritual development. The Here and Now Gestalt therapy focuses on what is going on in the here and now, i.e. in the therapy room, rather than what may have happened in the past. We are not influenced by the past as such, but by our memory of the past, by the behaviours that we learnt in the past. All the information that a client needs to develop self awareness is available in the here and now. A gestalt therapist will look at what is actually there the client s body language, tone of voice, what is not being said as well as what is being said etc., rather than what they think should be there. This is often referred to as the Phenomenological approach. The therapist will try to put their own prejudices to one side and experience the world through the client s eyes. Introduction Amongst the main rivers in Yorkshire, the River Aire runs 71 miles (141km) in length where the river is partially canalised (Aire and Calder Navigation). It rises about 300m above sea level, with a basin area of 1004km2. The source of the River Aire is situated in North Yorkshire, rising from Malham Cove at Malham Tarn, running beneath the ground towards Malham village. Of the towns the river flows through include Gargrave, Skipton, Cononley, then passes through more industrial areas such as Saltaire and Shipley, heading towards Leeds. The mouth of the river is at River Ouse at Airmyn. Prior to the 1970 s, severe pollution from raw sewage outflows resulted in the absence of fish and associated wildlife. There was also a lack of activities taking place that were recreational for locals and tourists alike. Therefore, because of the poor water quality, from upstream areas in Shipley towards the Ouse at the village of Airmyn, the River Aire gained a bad reputation as being heavily polluted.

In One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Marquez, the mysterious origins of the gypsy Melquíades largely impacts his character and relationships. Unlike the Buendia family, it is unknown where Melquíades originated. His mysterious origins reflect his supernatural and magical characteristics, contributing to the novel s magic realism. In the beginning of the novel, since the first page, the readers are introduced to Melquíades as a gypsy who brings mysterious inventions and magical items to the village of Macondo. A heavy gypsy with an untamed beard and sparrow hands, who introduced himself as Melquíades, put on bold public demonstration of what he himself called the eighth wonder of the learned alchemist of Macedonia (Marquez 1). This description is the only piece of information pertaining to Melquíades character the readers receive when introduced to him, leading the readers to wonder where he came from and the obscurity of his origins. His origins are unknown and enigmatic even though he is most important character besides the Buendia family. As the readers progresses through the novel, they learn more of his mysterious origins and of the magical inventions he brings to Macondo, shaping Melquíades as a person of magical origins which allows him to perform magic. For example, to the readers, Melquíades distorts fantasy and reality with magic because he brings new inventions and items, such as a magnet, ice, and a magic carpet, fascinating the people of Macondo with what he brings. The magic carpet furthers the idea of his magical origin; if he has a magical item in his possession, he must be of magical origins to be able obtain and control such item. In addition, tales of his adventure throughout the world present Melquíades as a person of magic and wisdom, having his immense wisdom and his mysterious breadth (6). • 43. United States Department Of Justice And The Securities And... The United States Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission rarely enforced the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, enacted in 1977, until 2010 over a decade since its modern reform in 1998. This surge in penalization of unethical acts such as bribery and other methods used to ensure foreign business ventures has been called a new era of FCPA enforcement by the DOJ, resulting in $1.8 billion in payments accrued from domestic firms and their foreign partners, compared to $300,000 in 2000 (Kohler). Because of ambiguity within the legislation, especially the undefined terms foreign official and obtain or retain business, the U.S. government is able to manipulate the FCPA for monetary gain, as well as shape foreign economies based upon their own values. The FCPA was composed with good intentions: to end corrupt trade and to create a more even playing field for American businesses. With that goal in mind, the Act is seemingly viewed as a normative standard to promote fairness, asserting that transparency and accountability are essential to building an honest and open global society. However the unclear articulation of the texts have developed inconsistencies in the way the FPCA is enforced, allowing organizations such as the SEC to utilize its broadness to target businesses, namely through the agencies interpretation of who a foreign official is and what it means to obtain or retain business. Firstly, according to the SEC, a foreign official is anyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Transfer Of 40 % Ownership A. Transfer of 40% Ownership As a sole proprietorship, Mr. Jones owns 100% of his used car dealership. He has full authority to make big business decisions and reports business income from the Schedule C to his Form 1040. He is currently deciding on re electing his business and giving his daughter 40% ownership of the business. When a current owner brings in new business associates, allocating a percentage of ownership is crucial. The individual with majority share has the voting power to make or break critical business decisions. An even 50/50 spilt might create a deadlock which could negatively impact the business. For example, another used car dealership wants to buy Mr. Jones business. Mr. Jones thinks the sale is a good idea, but Mandy is completely against it. Since the two are in a deadlock, the interested company may back out of the offer if a decision is not immediately made. Using the same scenario with the 60/40 split, Mr. Jones is a majority shareholder and has the voting authority over Mandy to accept the offer despite any rejections (Duff 2016). Financially speaking, the duo is better off with the 60/40 split. The S corporation election allows for income and deductions from the business to flow down to the taxpayers. If Mr. Jones decided to stay a sole proprietor, he claims the entire $1,200,000 on his Form 1040. If he decides to elect the S corporation status with a 60/40 split, he claims $720,000 of the business income, as well as 60% of the business ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The reason they are doing this is to protest a number of things ranging from the unfair treatment of African Americans to protesting against various things in their local communities. The protests started out as just a few players taking knees during the anthem, but this past week it escalated to the majority of the NFL taking part in some sort of protest. What sparked these players to join in was a tweet by Donald Trump that read, If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL,or other leagues, he or she should not be allowed to disrespect our Great American Flag (or Country) and should stand for the National Anthem. If not, YOU RE FIRED. Find something else to do! (Trump). This tweet led most NFL players to take part in their teammates protest to join in solidarity. While many people believe that these non violent protests are effective, there is also a large number of people who believe that these protests are disrespectful to our flag and country. They want their professional athletes to stick to sports and not make it so political. James Robbins shared his opinion on these protests in an opinion piece for USA Today. He believes that the protests are taking away from the fun stating, The NFL is on a politically correct suicide course, alienating fans and wrecking ratings (Robbins). • 49. Aristotles concept of catharsis Mimesis, Catharsis, and Pleasure: An Investigation into Aristotle s Tragic Pleasure Bradley Elicker Temple University Abstract: Aristotle writes the Poetics as an investigation into representational art and, more specifically, as an investigation into the art form of tragedy. While Aristotle goes into great detail regarding the technical aspects of creating and appreciating a work of tragedy, he is somewhat lacking in his descriptions of how tragedy is enjoyed by an audience. Aristotle speaks of this tragic pleasure in two ways; as the pleasure of mimesis, and as the pleasure of catharsis. It would seem, however, that they are wrong, and pleasure is not even a process. 2 In Metaphysics Aristotle explains the distinction between an activity and a process. He writes that each process is for the sake of an end 3 while an activity will be an end in 2 3 Nicomachean Ethics 1173a 29 33 Metaphysics 1048b 19 2 and of itself. He uses the examples of losing weight as opposed to seeing to show this difference. Aristotle writes that when one is in the process of losing weight, there is a specific end to which the process strives towards, this end is having lost weight. In the action of losing weight, the end is not present. The end of having lost weight will only occur after the process of losing weight has been completed. The same is not true of seeing. When we see something, the end is having seen it. This end is present in the action of seeing. When we say that we see something, we can also say that we have seen it. The end is in the action itself, and the action is its own end. In this way seeing is an activity and not a process. Aristotle writes that a process will have some type of duration between the time that it is begun and the time that it is completed. When someone attempts to lose weight, there is a certain duration of time between beginning the process of losing weight and the end of the process, having lost weight. By contrast, an activity is complete at all times. Nicomachean

  • 52. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act Essay In our present day in age, technology and the internet has made it very easy to find and obtain music, movies, television shows, and other media forms without having to pay a fee. In recent years, the music and movie industry, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) initiated a campaign to combat the illegal sharing and downloading of files, songs, and movies. These illegal files are usually transferred through users and peer to peer networks including LimeWire, FrostWire, Bearshare, Kazaa, and most importantly Napster, which initiated it all. The illegal files are not only limited to music and movies but also various types of pirated software, such as Microsoft Office or Adobe Photoshop, that are accompanied with serial numbers and instructional manuals. The RIAA and MPAA argued that if an individual exerts much time, effort, and money into a piece of art or software that they created, they should be thoroughly compensated. Therefore, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act was created and instituted by the United States Congress to restrict internet piracy by banning the fabrication, allocation, and illegal distribution of pirated materials. In addition, the DMCA was used to accommodate the constant changes of the growing digital age into current copyright laws that are usually reserved for books, magazines, or articles. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act is just and protects the rights of the artists and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
