Howard Gardner developed the theory of multiple intelligences in 1983 while at Harvard University. The theory proposes that there are eight different types of intelligence rather than just a single measure of intelligence as determined by IQ testing. Gardner identified eight specific intelligences: linguistic, logical-mathematical, musical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, naturalist, and intrapersonal. Gardner believes teachers should take individual differences in students' minds seriously and help students develop their unique strengths.
