Differences Between Virginia And Virginia
Virginia has differences and similarities when it comes to slave narratives. To explain further Virginia
was the first in English history to become the royal colony. However, this is why the details and
experiences that these ex slaves gave in describing the institution of slavery and the practice of slavery
were tremendously important the English kings that were always occupied. Virginia House in the late
1630 s was highly recognized. Sir William Berkeley became governor in 1941, the colony was well
established and extended on this. European settlers had come on legal contracts as servants, but many
of them became working as freemen and farmers. There were 250 Africans that came on board to
work and were also slaves. They all were in with the merchant class the had families in Virginia but
was solely controlled by the government. However, white males mostly had legal rights to owning
properties in colonial periods and they were qualified to vote. The white settlers had their own
religious beliefs, they were Anglicans, while the early settlers that were based in New York were either
Puritans, Quakers, Protestants, or Lutheran and also Morgans. The England civil war was introduced
by Anglicans and support that looked up to Charles I, also many of them came to Virginia to settle.
The crowning in 1652, was sent by Oliver Cromwell to the Puritan Common well being so that
foreigners would engaged in free trades. In 1660, Virginia practically became independent

A Study On Chronic Coffee Consumption Has Preventative On...
The primary objective of this research was to produce a study that displayed that chronic coffee
consumption has preventative effects in mammals. This paper will allow me to trace the method that
the scientists used in this particular mice experiment. Using the scientific method during the mice
experiment allowed the scientists to ask certain questions, make observations, and receive answers to
their questions. During this experiment twenty one mice were tested to determine whether water or
diluted black coffee would lower the mice blood glucose levels. Through my research and
examination of this experiment I will develop a hypothesis and come to a conclusion on the basis of
the research provided.
Identifying the Steps, Observations, and Hypothesis
The identified steps of the scientific method are ask a question, do background research, construct a
hypothesis, test your hypothesis by doing an experiment, analyze your data and draw a conclusion,
and communicate your results. The observations the scientist made leading up to this experiment were
that mice, which are mammals, have a relatively similar body system to that of a human. The fact that
mice s DNA is so similar to that of a human and that their life span is so short, scientist can observe
how this experiment will affect their bodies in a much faster frame of time. The hypothesis drawn
from this experiment seems to be at odds with the blood glucose in the mice that consumed the coffee
rather than the water had dropped

Activation Synthesis Theory Of Sleep
Sleep is a beautiful thing, but people do not get enough of it. It is a time for the body to rejuvenate and
process the events of the day. Sleeping is something that we seek out. Getting the recommended
amount of sleep allows our body to function properly the next day. Without it, there could be
detrimental consequences. The National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke says that
without sleep, neurons could be polluted with byproducts . In severe cases, people who get very little
sleep often experience mood swings, hallucinations and cells do not continue to reproduce. According
to the National Sleep Foundation, sleeping makes up one third of a person s lifetime. Despite that fact,
people do not get nearly enough sleep to be productive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was not able to sleep as much during the school week. Monday night through Friday morning, I
averaged five hours of sleep. Because I was unable to go through the four stages of sleep and REM
sleep, I did not function to my fullest potential. During school, I found it difficult to focus. My lack of
sleep did not allow me to remember very many of my dreams during the school week. From Friday
night to Sunday night, I was able to sleep much more because I did not have a crushing amount of
homework. Although I did sleep the recommended eight hours those days, I only remember a little
snippet of a dream. From Friday night to Saturday morning, I remember my family and I on a beach
together in Hawaii. Dreaming about Hawaii represents trying to escape your daily problems. That is
fitting because the end of the school week oftentimes I want to forget all of the work that I have to
accomplish over the coming weekend. Family represents security, warmth and love. This could be
because I am leaving for college next year, and I do not fully know what will happen, and I desire a
sense of warmth and love from my family. My dream follows the Activation Synthesis Hypothesis for
two main reasons. It follows the parameter that the dream goes along with something going on in my
life. The second reason is that my brain was trying to comprehend what was going

Louis Pasteur Accomplishments
Louis Pasteur was a scientist. He led many scientific discoveries particularly in the study of germs and
living organisms. It is through the work of Pasteur that we know to wash our hands to prevent that
spread of germs, that medical instruments need to be sterilized, and his research on germ theory led to
the development of antibiotics. His initial motivation was a love of science, but his research and life
events led him to ask important science questions that begged to be answered. After his initial research
on crystallization and how polarized light passed through them he became associated with another
scientist named Biot. It was after testing Pasteur s theories that the two became good friends and
colleagues. Pasteur s work into the study of disease and vaccination was further spurred on when two
of his daughters died of typhoid.
Pasteur s study of crystallography gained him great recognition and he became the Dean of the
Faculty of Science Lille. In this school they were doing a great deal of research on the production of
alcohol by fermentation of the beetroot. At this time the theory of Liebig, that fermentation was a
chemical process, (Fleming) was being researched. Pasteur questioned this theory ... Show more

A Dream Of Passion By Euripides Medea And Apollonius s...
The character Medea is a well known character throughout Greek culture due to Euripides s Medea
and Apollonius s Argonautika. Jules Dassin s A Dream of Passion presents the story of Medea in a
modern way, allowing myth and reality to intertwine. Because the film is based on the myth, the two
main characters in the film, Maya and Brenda, share many qualities to Medea, such as killing of their
children. Common themes, such as the position of women in society, are also presented in both
mediums. These similarities show that Euripides and Dassin are conveying the same ideas using
different methods.
As stated in the paragraph above, Maya has a lot in common with Medea. However, we do not see that
until later in the movie. She originally starts off as a character who is very unlike Medea. She does not
understand the passion of Medea. Kostas, the director, asks her to repeat Okay. My director, my love.
When she does, her love does not come across and this frustrates him. According to Kostas, No love is
no passion and no passion is no Medea. At this point, we already see the differences between Maya
and Medea. Early in the film, Maya claimed that she would rather go to battle than to give birth to a
child. It is evident she wants to focus on acting, hoping to revive her career. She seems to care only
about her image; she demands the costume designer to pick out costumes that make her look younger.
Furthermore, when suggested that she visit Brenda to better understand Medea, she

A Research On A Surrogacy Contract
A surrogacy contract is a document signed by two people or parties that agree with traditional or
gestational surrogacy; one party receives monetary compensation while the other receives a child.
Currently there is a sharp increase in the number of foreign inquiries to India in pursuit of finding
women willing to be a surrogate (Gentleman, p.2). This can be seen as taking advantage of a poverty
loomed country as the money is hard for these impoverished women to turn away (Gentleman, p.3).
The surrogacy market is estimated to bring in $445 million annually to India and is expected to grow
as news of the success stories become known (Warner, p.2). In the US the cost of surrogacy is
approximately $75,000 to $80,000 per pregnancy, however in India, where commercial surrogacy is
legal the price comes to around $25,000 (Sandel, p.100). The Indian surrogate will receive about
$7,500 for their services, which is many times their potential annual income (Sandel, p.100).
Surrogacy raises questions about the market s ethical limits due to the belief that affluent consumers
are exploiting economically challenged women s reproductive systems in exchange for money, which
Sandel criticizes as being degrading or dehumanizing (Sandel, p.96). Sandel objects to surrogacy
contracts or reproductive outsourcing because he believes treating babies and pregnancy as
commodities degrades them, or fails to value them appropriately meaning the market of surrogacy and
surrogacy contracts are

The Theory Of An Organization
Organizations are groups of people working together to achieve a common goal. The organizations
theories correlate together in order for organizations to sustain functionality. In all organizations there
is a common unit of power that directs the organization toward a common goal. Within the
Department of Health and Human Resources, the source of power is the commissioner, and the
direction of the department is to have zero child fatalities and maintain safety of children.
The classical model focuses on the structure of the organization. The decision making starts at the top,
with the person in power and trickles down to the employees in the organizations. Hence, the person
in power has the authority and decision making capability. This is also known as bureaucracy, which
occurs within a government institution such as; when meetings occur, the commissioner will make the
final decisions about goals and how to implement those goals. All organizations recognize that
decisions have to be made. The decision theory is similar to the classical model in how decisions are
made and who makes the decisions. The person in power makes the decision, and the ultimate
outcome is to achieve a common goal. Decisions are made on rationale when possible, but achieving a
perfect goal is not the ultimate goal. When conflict occurs it is embraced, and organization work to
accommodate or even coerce members to achieve common goals. Human relations theory is derived
from the machine

The Sons of August By: Nicholas Klein During the time period leading up to ww1, Germany was

England was more focused on an alliance with France. With the death of King Edward the VII of
England, royals from all of Europe come to attend his funeral. Included in the group was the new king

Although, conflicts such as the American Civil war and the Revolutionary war do interest me, my
main interest lies within conflicts in the 20th century. I have watched many documentaries featuring
first hand accounts of military personnel and their experience in combat. In school and out of school,
the one war that comes up the most is WW2. I know about how Germany was the main problem in
ww2 and also the persecution of Jews, gypsies, gays, and many other people. But I didn t realize until
after starting this project, that I had never learned a lot about ww1. This book not only taught me of
some factors leading up to the war, but it also gave me an interest of ww1. One thing I learned was
that William the II of Germany did not like Edward the VII of England because he had denied any
alliances or treaties between Negland and Germany. Instead, Edward formed an alliance with France. I
learned this on page two when William says that he is happy that Edward it dead. Not everything
about this book was good in my opinion. Most books that I read are fictional/fantasy books. Therefore,
this book wasn t necessarily a walk in the park for me. I had a very difficult time following the story
and what was actually happening. This was due to the fact that the book was very randomly organized
and didn t really follow the chronological order of events in history. For example, in the beginning it

The Negative Effects Of Cigarettes
Cigarettes kill more Americans than suicide, vehicular accidents, alcohol, cocaine, heroin, ADIS, and
homicides combined. Cigarettes do not support or benefit the public in a positive way. Cigarettes are
filled with thousands of chemicals and are highly addictive. Cigarettes have caused numerous mental
and physical problems for smokers and the people who surround them, impacting families,
communities and society. Cigarettes and tobacco should become an illegal drug in North America. The
negative traits of smoking outweigh the positive traits; tobacco should not be accessible to the public.
Smoking kills these two words should be very familiar. The effects of first hand smoke from cigarettes
are pathetically publicize, barley educating the public about the dangers and life threatening problems
and illness associated with smoking. Although the understanding that smoking cigarettes can kill you
has been established in the minds of Americans, the effects of second hand and thirdhand smoke has
not. Two thirds of the smoke from a cigarette is not draw in by the smoker, but enters the air and
environment around the smoker, this smoke is exactly the same as the third of smoke that was inhaled
into the lungs of the smoker. ( Second hand Smoke ) Second and third hand smoke may cause cancers
of the larynx (voice box), pharynx (throat), bladder, nasal sinuses, rectum, breast, brain, stomach in
adults and brain tumours, lymphoma and leukemia in children. ( Second hand Smoke ) Second hand
smoke is the smoke inhaled involuntary by others produced by burning tobacco.
Unfortunately second hand smoke has twice the chemicals originate in the direct inhalation of tobacco
found in cigarettes. ( Secondhand Smoke ) Non smokers who inhale the polluted air are likely to get
many serious diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (emphysema and chronic
bronchitis), heart disease, lung cancer, asthma and other diseases. ( Second Hand Smoke ) Third hand
smoke can have the same impact as second hand smoke; third hand smoke is the tobacco smoke that
gets trapped hair, skin, fabric, carpet, furniture, and toys. Third hand smoke contains the same toxic
chemicals as second hand smoke and has the same effect on the body;

A Community Support Group Meeting At New Horizon Church Of...
On Friday, June 5th, Megan Crews and I attended a community support group meeting at New
Horizon Church of Christ. This meeting was a for teens and young adults that were experiencing
issues of emotional abuse, substance abuse, sexual abuse, depression, co dependency, and anything
else that was causing them struggles. The Landing (what this group is called), is a daughter program
of Celebrate Recovery, which has been helping people in different communities for 20 years. This
collection of groups is faith based and helps the whole family, not just the individual experiencing the
problem. It is set up as a fifty two week program, based on principles that Jesus shared in the Sermon
on the Mount. They use a 12 step program model using Jesus Christ as their focus and not
psychological theory. There are over 20,000 programs in churches around the world. The programs
have also had great success being used in the prison system. Since the beginning of these programs,
many people have found peace and healing from their issues, hurts, and habits. The meeting began
with group leader (who works at NEFSH, and with DCF), had all the members join him in the circle
of chairs in the fellowship hall. Parents and grandparents were allowed to sit in on this part of the
meeting as well. He also introduced us to the group since we were new faces to the church. He

Drug Abuse Among Professional Athletes Essay
Drug abuse among professional basketball players is a problem as old as time. In some circumstances
it may not be the athletes fault. For example when they are treating a minor cough or a cold, the
medications used will sometimes contain small amounts of alcohol. On the other hand some athletes
purposely abuse drugs for a variety of reasons. Some attempt to cover up the presence of other drug
abuse but most abuse drugs because they will enhance their performance. The most common abused
drugs in professional basketball are: anabolic steroids, marijuana, and amphetamines. Each drug has
its own effect on performance, and disciplinary actions.

Apathy, impaired judgment, loss of ambition, and an inability to carry out long term plans characterize
the motivational syndrome. Just like steroid abuse has its consequences and disciplinary actions so
does marijuana abuse. Marijuana also has the same three testing methods as steroids have: reasonable
cause, first year, and veteran. For a first offense of marijuana possession or use, the player will be
required to enter the substance abuse program with no suspension or fine. On a second offense, the
player will be fined $15,000 and be required to re enter the program. A third offense will result in a
five game suspension and another entry into the program. Any further abuse of marijuana will not
result in any disqualification from the National Basketball Association but a further suspension will be
prearranged.
Amphetamines are used to delay the point of fatigue in athlete s workouts, to which they will be able
to withstand more exercise and competition. Amphetamines do not create extra physical and mental
energy. They are significant for distorting the player s perception of reality and impairing judgment,
which may cause an athlete to participate while injured, possibly leading to worse injuries and putting
others at risk. Various tests that have been conducted on professional basketball players suggest that
amphetamine use can enhance skills which play a key roll in athletic performance. The skills

The Wages For Equal Wages
Mind the (Pay) Gap Men in Travis Country, and all over the United States, are almost always paid
higher wages than their female coworkers for doing the same work. Women have been fighting for
equal rights and equal pay since the 19th century and it is about time women and men doing the same
job are paid the same amount. The solution to this is simple: pay women and men equal wages for
equal work. This would seem to be common sense, but it is still something we are fighting for. Census
data shows median yearly income for men in Travis County is approximately $10,000 higher than for
women (kxan.com). Freda Bryson, a Texas State doctoral student and equal pay advocate said, When I
go to buy food or groceries, I don t get a woman s discount, I pay the same thing as a male pays. So
why shouldn t my wages be the same? This quote should send a message: by paying women less than
men, many women simply cannot afford the same basic living expenses as men can. One in four
households with children is headed by a single woman (austincf.org). If a single mom is making
significantly less than a man doing the same work, it is almost impossible to provide a child with a life
above the poverty level. Many women in Travis County are living more than 100% below the line of
poverty, and over half of these women have children to take care of as well. How can you take care of
a child if you cannot even afford to take care of yourself? The gender pay gap is unacceptable and
changes needs to be

Saudi s In Bikinis Analysis
We as humans have always been fearful of the unknown, as well as what we do not comprehend. In
result of this, humanity has developed the tendency of antagonizing beliefs and concepts foreign to
one s own. This becomes problematic when exposed to an abnormal surrounding or idea. When
Christopher Columbus had voyaged across the ocean, people began to fear he and his crew would
plummet of the edge of the world. Despite being told otherwise, we let our own ignorance dictate our
definition of what is good and bad for us and others. This becomes apparent through written literature.

the misunderstood. It is undeniable that the United States and ... Show more content on

controversial image of the Joker killing Batgirl. The Joker is known for his vindictive and merciless

Race Relations In American Society
Race relations in American society were a reflection on American consumerism; this consumer society
was directly tied to how Americans accessed consumer goods. Jim Crow laws dictated how and what
African Americans were permitted to consume and the creation of consumer credit redefined what
African Americans could afford to consume. The expansion of consumption under the creation of
consumer credit in the 1920s and the creation of Jim Crow laws from 1890s to the mid 1960s were
two major events that restricted African Americans from fully participating in the Consumer Society
that was being created. Jim Crow laws naturalized inequality by dignifying white work and

In the 1920s, automobiles began to be financed through consumer credit, as they were no longer seen

came to be a person would purchase an automobile through a dealer. They would sign the dealer s
papers and agree to make payments for say 24 months and some fees for putting it all together. Once
this is all completed the dealer would take the contract and sell it to General Motors Acceptance

sales and profits. This was facilitated by the private car manufactures and in the case of mortgages by
the federal government. Consumer credit exploded and remade society in its entirety; is now meant
that your ability to consume was no longer tied to your wealth, but to how much you were expected to
produce in wages. Turing that future income into present consumption was what the consumer credit
was all about . Installment sales of automobiles after World War 1 soared from around zero to sixty
percent of total car sales. The era of consumer credit was here to stay disruptions like the Great
Depression simply reworked consumer credit with new laws to [restrain] lending here and [promote]

Co2 Into Methanol Essay
CO2 is one of the biggest problem our planet currently faces. Scientists around the world are racing to
find a solution that will help us deal with the excessive Carbon Dioxide in our atmosphere.
CO2 is at its highest levels in millions of years. And without a solution these conditions will not
change to acceptable levels anytime soon.
There are several research projects currently tackling this issue. Some have found methods to convert
CO2 into methanol, or hydrocarbon fuel. But these are not very useful at this time. Other attempts
have produced products that are either too expensive or not scalable.
There is even a team in Iceland trying to turn CO2 into solid rock which can then be buried. But this
method has not be fully proven as yet, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adam Rondinone, an author of the study, explained to Popular Mechanics. It also only requires 1.2
volts of electricity, and yields over 60% of CO2 into Ethanol. These results were possible because the
catalyst s nanostructure was easy to change, this, according to the researchers.
In a press release, Dr. Rondinone said this system is effectively reversing the combustion process.
Explaining that it is very difficult to produce ethanol from carbon dioxide with one catalyst.
Because of how cheap the materials involved are, and very low electricity requirements, this method
can easily be scaled to meet global needs.
The team at Oak Ridge did say this is not a ready to use solution for global CO2 reduction. More
development using this system will need to be made in order to have a scalable program in place.
The Automotive Industry can benefit greatly from this innovation, and we can easily say it will be a
big deal for other fuel consuming industries. In the US we are currently blending over 10% of gasoline
with ethanol.
The Oak Ridge lab will continue to develop this revolutionary technology, and if all goes well we
might just be able to fix Earth s CO2

An Analysis Of Susan Douglas On Amateur Operators Focus On...
Historiography is the writing of the past. It is also the study of the way history events has been written
by historians with their perspective and interpretations. As everything is interpreted to each owns
perspective, some parts of history could have been skewed while being written with biases and
favoritism according to the authors. We all understand things slight differently according to how we
were raised, social and culture background, experiences, etc.
The reading by Susan Douglas on amateur operators focus on young men and boys who were
separated from regulation such as private firms, militaries, state, and etc. With the mindset of the ether
belonging to the people was a major step in the making of radio broadcasting. She also emphasizes
that American middle class boys saw the control and mastery of technology as a symbol of
masculinity. It was usually young, middle class, white boys and men who created their own stations.
She highlights that the appearance of the boy inventor hero was an important factor to the history of
radio because it offered information about wireless and inspired boys to play around with the
invention. Wireless work were tied with contemporary heroism and another reason were the ideas
offered by young men who experimented. Stories such as the ones about Willenborg began to increase
rapidly in numbers and opportunities in technology arose. Susan prioritizes Willenborg, the Americans
who invested in stock in wireless companies, constructed

The Dimensions Of Mental Health
Life In life there is many things that could happen. Things that catch your attention, going to
wonderful places, and to be playing in a professional. It all goes forever but there is one thing that you
have to be aware of. The things we do to ourselves as to other people, and it all starts with our own
health, to living longer, and all the way to making decisions. These are the things to have a great life
and to be successful, and if you keep on reading, you will find out the things that will get you there.
Dimensions of Health In life, there is something called psychosocial health. There are many
dimensions to this health, but I am going to explain four of them. The first dimension is Mental
Health, and this is the thinking part of psychosocial health. This part is where you have the ability to
do many things as to solve problems, interpret, to sense, perceive, and to also evaluate what is
happening. The next dimension is Emotional Health, this is the part where you feel love, hate, joy,
anxiety, and sustains borderline emotions such as hope and care. Also, it carries emotions that result
from harm, loss, but also from benefits. There is another dimension called Spiritual Health, which is
the part that describes the mean and purpose of life. It is the part that contains your music, nature, and
the belief of your religion. The last type of dimensional health is Social Health, this type of health is
when you have social skills and you use them whenever you interact

Narrative Essay On Being A Daredevil
I was a very mischievous person and I liked to take stupid risks that didn t make sense to anybody

Lessons from the Dalai Lama
Hosting the Dalai Lama means that Santa Clara University wants to have its students become leaders
with values. Values such as compassion, awareness, and intelligence will make a leader that not only
is well respected by coworkers but also trusted in their position of management. The Dalai Lama
teaches how important it is to have ethics and compassion engrained in a lifestyle and business world.
Students attending this seminar will be exposed to a new kind of knowledge allowing them to learn
how to work and lead effectively. I believe that Santa Clara University is making a mark on students
that goes beyond their college years or career. It realizes the importance that lies in technical
knowledge and life skills. Compassion is important to the corporate world because as the Dalai Lama
believes, it is a part of being human. Sometimes being human is not associated with business;
however, I think it s important for students to learn how to be compassionate. The importance of
compassion will allow workers to have more tolerance towards people and pay attention to the big
picture and let go of minor details so they work more efficiently towards their goal. Powerful and
compassion are often not thought about in a combination. The Dalai Lama is a living example of how
to put both of those qualities together. He is powerful in a respect that he has the influence to make a
large impact on the world yet he only uses his power to do good to his people.

Dido and Camilla
Dido and Camilla Leaders Blinded by their Passions in the Aeneid
In Book I of Virgil s Aeneid, Aeneas observes a depiction of the female
warrior, Penthesilea, on the walls of Dido s temple. As Aeneas is looking
at this portrait, Dido enters the temple. Later in Book XI, as Camilla
walks through the carnage of battle, she is likened to an image of
Penthesilea returning home victorious. Virgil presents many such
similarities in his portrayals of Dido and Camilla because it is through
them, the only two female leaders in his work, that he illustrates the
destinies of rulers who fall victim to their passions. To Virgil, a great

Fifth Army Radio Station
The topic of my paper is to research how effective the Fifth Army Mobile Radio Station was at

home for the frontline soldiers. The fact that it was also a mobile radio station on wheels that served
frontline troops also tells that it was able to broadcast to a wider range of audience that stationary
stations at the time could not signal or reach. The Fifth Army radio station was also able to counter
enemy propaganda like Axis Sally, who broadcasted threatening messages to frontline troops. Because

The Vietnam War Was A Long And Costly Conflict
Causes if the Vietnam War
Before WWII Vietnam belonged to the French Empire but during the war, it was taken over by the
Japanese but since they were being defeated they retreated back to Japan. This gave the chance to the
Vietnamese people to create their own government led by Ho Chi Minh but at the end of the war, the
south was given back to the french while the north was led by the Chinese, who was not communist at
the time, so Ho Chi Minh lost all his power. When the Chinese pulled out in 1946 the Ho Chi Minh
party took over The Viet Minh and by October the French stated their intention of reuniting back with

American military aid which was south Vietnam s main power the spring offensive was successful.
Unable to fight back and cope without the large US support south Vietnam collapsed causing large

higher level authority. In James Baldwin s story, he is not happy with the white people s power. He is
full of the hatred. When he purposely went to the non colour restaurant, he tries to challenge the
higher levels. Baldwin writes, I pretended not to have understood her, hoping to draw her closer ... I
realized that she would never come any closer and that I would have to strike from a distance. He
wants to know why the whites are the stronger group, why the whites can destroy his hopes. However,
when he found out the whites are weaker than him but still having more powers, he turns his hatred
into violence. Baldwin writes, I picked this up and hurled it with all my strength at her. She ducked

How To Prevent School Shootings
Dead students, helpless parents, shocked public... This is becoming an every day image in the news
nowadays. School shootings are the worst form of gun violence. Innocent students, teachers and other

worst year since the Columbine massacre in 1999.
School shootings happen all too often. There were 16 school shootings in the first almost 6 months of

One solution is to let teachers wear guns. In 32 out of 50 states it is allowed to as long as the school
administration allows it. Theoretically teachers would have to run through a training before being
allowed to wear guns in the classroom. Another solution can be to build standardized classrooms with
two doors. This makes an escape in an emergency situation much easier. The probably most effective
way of preventing school shootings and shootings in general is to repeal and overwrite the Second
Amendment. The second Amendment says that everyone in the United States has the right to keep and
bear arms. To repeal the second amendment the Congress has to propose a new, overwritten
Amendment and if two thirds of the house and states agree with it, three fourths of the states have to
agree with the change in a final vote. The main idea would be that guns won t be completely banned
but it would be made harder to buy an possess guns. Another way to tackle the problem is to have
more security at schools like airport like security scanners and more school recourse officers to protect

Child Prostitution in Asia
Child Prostitution in Asia In ancient times, children were viewed as smaller versions of adults. There
was little perceptible difference between an adult and their younger counterparts. By the Middle Ages
and up until the Renaissance, girls as young as twelve were still considered marriageable age.
Sexualizing children was a form of their education and indoctrination into the world of adults.
However, in the modern time, we have come to understand that children and childhood is a time for
innocence and development. The historical adulteration of children was rightly seen as barbaric and
archaic. Forcing children into adult roles can lead to a destructive adulthood. Physical and emotional
abuse of children can destroy someone. Even worse is the type of abuse characterized by sexual
activity and sexual interaction with children. The sexual abuse of children leads to abnormal
development and an adult with severe mental problems, prone to violence and often continuing the
chain of abuse into subsequent generations. Forcing a child to commit sexual acts before they are
physically or mentally mature enough to handle it is the worst kind of crime. Yet, in nations all over
the world, this kind of abuse not only occurs, but is a profitable business for perpetrators. Child
prostitution is illegal all over the world, but in some countries the laws against child prostitution and
the use of underage people for sexual interactions are lax and often go unenforced. The World

Analysis Of The Human Struggle In Native Guard And Heart...
Throughout its history, humanity has struggled to thrive in the face of the unstoppable forces of evil,
nature, and its own mortality. When examining the history of humanity and considering its
achievements, it is tempting to imagine that humans have achieved much as a species, that they have
made progress against the forces gathered in opposition to them. However, when the cost is revealed,
when the human life paid in the name of that meager progress is counted, the results seem to pale in
comparison. The graves of the dead serve as a monument to this grim reality; humanity s efforts to

doomed to have fish dart among their bones (Trethewey 44). The bodies of the native guard are cast
out of sight into the ocean, neglected in an attempt to forget the evils committed against them. Their
forgotten and neglected grave symbolizes the futility of fighting against the racism of America, as well
as the futility in concealing it; even when man has destroyed all other evidence, the bones remain to
testify to the past and remind the visitors that no change has been made in the present. Humanity s
discomfort with its past atrocities can never become powerful enough to overcome the reminder

Mapp v. Ohio: Controversy of the Fourth Amendment
Ms. Dollree Mapp and her daughter lived in Cleveland, Ohio. After receiving information that an
individual wanted in connection with a recent bombing was hiding in Mapp s house, the Cleveland
police knocked on her door and demanded entrance. Mapp called her attorney and subsequently
refused to let the police in when they failed to produce a search warrant. After several hours of
surveillance and the arrival of more officers, the police again sought entrance to the house. Although
Mapp did not allow them to enter, they gained access by forcibly opening at least one door. Once the
police were inside the house, Mapp confronted them and demanded to see their warrant. One of the

Her attorney argued that she should never have been brought to trial because the material evidence
resulted from an illegal, warrant less search. Because the search was unlawful, he maintained that the
evidence was illegally obtained and must also be excluded. In its ruling, the Supreme Court of Ohio
recognized that ?a reasonable argument? could be made that the conviction should be reversed ?
because the ?methods? employed to obtain the evidence?were such as to offend a sense of justice.?
But the court also stated that the materials were admissible evidence. The Court explained its ruling by
differentiating between evidence that was peacefully seized from an inanimate object, such as a trunk,
rather than forcibly seized from an individual. Based on this decision, Mapp s appeal was denied and
her conviction was upheld.
Mapp appealed again to the Supreme Court of the United States in 1961. The case basically came
down to this fundamental question: may evidence obtained through a search in violation of the Fourth
Amendment be admissible in state criminal proceedings? The Fourth Amendment states, ?The right of
the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and
seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause?and particularly
describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.? The Fourth Amendment,
however, does not define when a search or seizure is

Food Revolution Reflection
In the book, The Good Food Revolution tells the impactful story of Will Allen. The book goes into full
detail about the struggles that lead up to his accomplishments. Will Allen has had an adventurous and
eventful life that has allowed him to learn so much from his own experiences. The book is told in first
person which allows the reader to feel personally connected to Will Allen as his life story unravels. As
Will Allen tells his story he talks about the people who helped him along the way. He mentions how
his family and the people he had met stood by his side and how they influenced him. Personally, when
I read books that are told in first person point of view it makes me feel more connected to the
individual, and what they are telling me. I am able to feel such a close connection and find a way to
relate to the story even better. The way Will Allen s story is expressed through words on a page does
not feel like that at all. I honestly felt like I was having a one on one conversation with Will Allen
when reading the book. It felt like he was telling me in person all his stories and his background
history. I believe the first person point of view positively affected the book. Throughout the beginning
of the book I noticed he introduces several individuals that has been a part of his life. While reading
The Good Food Revolution I felt like the narrative strands included enhanced the story. The narrative
strands in the story were his family and support group that helped him

The Importance Of Being Successful As A Student
What is considered to have the key to success? Quoted by Charlie White The most important thing is
being passionate about what you re doing and always give it your all. That is the key to success. All
students have had the over whelming amount of stress to be successful. Stressing to get the perfect
score on a major grade or finding the determination to do a challenging assignment. We wonder if all
of our routines and tips used for school work actually guarantee our success as a student. As it may
only help somewhat and not give us the result we desire. Our mindset and amount of work provided
guarantees our success. Being successful as a student requires determination, preparing for situations
you will encounter as a student, and stopping procrastination in its tracks.
First off, as a successful student you need to have a positive outlook on each situation you are given.
To succeed by trying your best is a part of determination. As students if we don t have any
determination than what do we have left to get any work completed? We have to have motivation to
get through doing any type of work provided. If we don t get any work done it means, we have
incomplete the task given which is not being successful or putting in your 100% effort. Being
determined requires getting task done efficiently and accomplishing goals. A real life situation of this
can be found everywhere and in everything you do. Determination can be found in school, work, or in
everyday activities you

Essay on Buddhist view on Abortion
It is quite clear from a variety of sources that abortion has been severely disapproved of in the
Buddhist tradition. It is also equally clear that abortion has been tolerated in Buddhist Japan and
accommodated under exceptional circumstances by some modern Buddhists in the U.S. The situation
is similar to that of Roman Catholicism, where abortion, though disapproved of in the strongest terms
by Church authorities, is still practiced by a large number of devoted Catholics and defended by at
least a few.
As a Buddhist, I would most likely still be for abortion. Buddhism itself speaks with more than one
moral voice on this issue against abortion. The core belief in Buddhism is against abortion, but there
are commonly people of this religion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If genes were entirely what made up a person, than abortion would not be acceptable, but that is not
the case. In very early stages of a pregnancy, Buddhists don t think of the fetus as a person yet.
I am a Japanese Buddhist. Where I m from, Buddhism is a little bit different. A lot of Buddhists
consider abortion a moral crime, but in Buddhist metaphysics, the life force comes from an existence
which is fluid like water and returns to that existence. The fetus is understood to be in a stage of
becoming a discrete thing passing out of the ancient waters. Life that appears in our world or in a
woman s uterus is the formation of a being that was before in the liquid like state of another reality.
Children are liquid and only gradually solidify into humans, this process not being realized until after
birth. Accordingly, the newborn gradually make the transition from the world of the gods and Buddhas
into that of human beings. Most Japanese Buddhists (like myself) believe that you can be cursed by
your baby after the abortion procedure. Because of this, they perform a Mizuko Kuyo after an
abortion. Mizuko means water child, kuyo means memorial service conducted in most cases by
Buddhist priests.Mizuko Kuyos are ritual ceremonies of apology and remembrance for aborted
fetuses, or the stillborn and miscarried.
Buddhists are strong believers in Karma, the law of cause and effect. They are often morally

Summary Of The Symbolism InNovostroika By Maria Reva
For many, governments offer guidance and reliance; citizens enjoy security, order, and direction from
their political leaders. Yet some forms of government specifically Communism cause instability,
confusion, and distraction in the lives of their citizens. In Maria Reva s short story Novostroika, she
depicts the animosity of a young Ukrainian man, Daniil Blinov, who battles the oppressions of
Communist life. In his position, Danill struggles to keep his family satiated under the dominion of the
U.S.S.R. This leads to various dilemmas throughout the piece. Within this story, Reva incorporates a
space heater, a symbol of hope, and a coffin, a symbol of oppression, to convey how Communism
crushes the hope of its citizens.
Reva establishes this short lived hope within the first symbol: a space heater. In doing so, she shifts
from a persistent defeated outlook to an encouraging perspective on the characters dilemmas. The
Blinov family procures the space heater with Daniel s grandfather s life savings, which he had been
keeping for hard times, and hard times had arrived (Reva 227). Congruently, they had enough [...] to
buy one space heater, allowing the situation to resemble fate. At this moment, the symbol emerges
within the story. Now, the characters have a tangible item to prosper from, to grant them perseverance.
In this story, set in 1988, the U.S.S.R. began to rapidly decay. With Mikhail Gorbachev s new reform
in place, the people found a new voice. In turn,

Broadway Play Compare And Contrast Essay
I watched Broadway Play and Baz Luhrman
The first difference I noticed after watching two scenes was the involvement of audience. Broadway
Play is a recorded film of a live play in which audiences and actors both exist actors must not only
speak their lines to portray and reveal their emotions, but must also speak their lines in a way the
audience can understand it. Baz Luhrman, on the other hand, is a film with a purpose to emphasize the
theme of Romeo and Juliet with its viewers. There are no restrictions in which actors speak their lines,
as long as the main message can be understood by the viewers.
Involvement of audience also can be related to how music is being used in the two scenes. In
Broadway Play, music seems to be used as a transition between dialogues of characters. The scene
first starts off with a lively music, but the sound decreases as Lord Capulet takes control. In Baz
Lurhman, music is used to maximize the emphasis on the love of Romeo and Juliet. An example
would be when Romeo and Juliet are staring at each other, with an aquarium in between. No words are
spoken, but as Romeo and Juliet slowly engage in each other, viewers can easily understand that the
two are in love. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Broadway Play, is a live play with a limited space, and so there is also a limit to the usage of props.
Baz Luhrman, on the other hand, has nearly unlimited space, and so the setting feels much like a party.
Personally, I enjoyed Broadway Play more than Baz Luhrman. I do admit that the settings in Baz
Luhrman feels much more like the settings Shakespeare would ve written in his plays, but there are so
much things going on in a scene in Baz Luhrman and it sometimes can be hard to understand what the
characters are trying to

R. E. M s Song Find The River
R.E.M s song, Find the River , has many shared images and symbols with Herman Hesse s novel,
Siddhartha . In reading both the book and Michael Stipes lyrics, one can imagine that Stipe was
familiar with the Hesse book. The book tells the story of Siddhartha, a young Brahmin who chooses to
leave the comfort of family and home to find his spiritual truth. During the story Siddhartha has a son
who decides that he must seek his own knowledge and comfort through materialism. It is possible to
read Michael Stipe s song as Siddhartha sharing the lessons he has learned on his journey toward
enlightenment with little Siddhartha. The title, Find the River , could be read as an instruction to find
his own river or truth and to not task in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The song begins with telling the listener that they need to slow down and consider a different path to
wisdom, Hey now, little speedy head, the read on the speed meter says, you have to go to task in the
city . The song encourages the listener to do as the speaker has done, I have got to leave to find my
way . This is heard in the beginning of Siddhartha, when he decides to leave his father s home, He had
begun to suspect that his worthy father and his other teachers, the wise Brahmins, had already passed
onto him the bulk and best of their wisdom, that they had already poured the sum total of their
knowledge into his waiting vessel and the vessel was not full. (pp.5). Stipe repeats the same idea when
he says, I have got to find the river, Bergamot and vetiver run through my head and fall away .
Bergamot and Vetiver are common incense tools used in Hindu temples and religious rituals, and the
speaker in Find the River , seems to say these tools run through his mind but are of no use, and that he
must find the truth through finding his river . He repeats this encouragement in the last stanza , There
is nothing left to throw of ginger, lemon, indigo, coriander stem and rose of hay. Strength and courage
overrides the privileged and weary eyes . Again, the speaker is imagining tools of his religion and
overcoming the weariness

Masculinity In Bruce Wayne And Joey Tribbiani
Society is the number one determinant on how an individual is supposed to act given their sex. If an
individual is born with male reproductive parts, they must act a certain way in order to be accepted by
the larger population. When a boy starts to engage in certain activities that are not defined as
masculine he is shamed, and it is unbelievably hard to maintain his social status that he may have once
had, or was striving to attain. There are a few different theories when it comes to masculinity and how
it is defined. Also, actions that may be engaged that could hurt a male s ego, are expressing health
concerns. Men feel like they should not express when they are physically in pain, which explains the
significantly lower amount of doctor visits that are attended ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When I think about Joey Tribbiani I think of the guy that has little manners, no filter, and cracks a joke
at the most inappropriate times. Also, he s the kind of guy that is physically hurt, as he was in one
episode on Friends, and refused to go to the doctor to get help, because of course he is too much of a
man. In addition, Joey is very smooth when it comes to whoever he is talking to, whether it be another
man or a female, and I feel as though the way that he gets what he wants, or is respected is by his
charismatic ways. As I have mentioned before, he is not the most intimidating of men, but that does
not mean that he doesn t fit under this hegemonic theory. As for Bruce Wayne, he is extremely smart,
unlike Joey who is not very educated at all. However, Bruce Wayne is also very serious, he is your
typical man that shows zero emotions, and if he does it is extremely brief. Bruce Wayne manages to
get the things he desires by using his intellectual skills, or by literally buy whatever it may be for an
outrageous amount of money. He is your typical Caucasian heterosexual male, that is in complete
control of his

How Does Beowulf Show Courage
Beowulf was a valiant, courageous, honorable warrior. Beowulf, who is the main character in the epic
poem Beowulf , was widely known to possess highly sought after traits. For examples, we will use his
strength, nobility, and perseverance that he displays every day of his life. However, we are going to
focus on his other personality traits of honor, bravery, and courage in this very informative essay.
First, let us look at Beowulf s honor. There is no question that his honor lust is earmarked in every
single one of his actions. Every act he committed was contemplated and examined to be performed in
the most honorable way possible. Much like the Japanese society in today s modern day and age, his
decisions always were thought out to have some kind of honor. Referencing to lines 265 through 269,
he remarks how Higlac, his uncle and king, would think less of him had he used a shield and sword in
the battle with an unarmed monster. Sure, this may seem much like common sense, of not wanting to
disappoint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Courage, by definition, is The ability to do something that frightens one s self . This, may sound an
awful lot like Bravery, the last topic that we had discussed. However, courage and bravery is not the
same thing, just very similar. I will first reference lines 113 and 114, where Beowulf declared that a
boat shall be outfitted for the trip from Geatland to Denmark, in order to assist the Danes with their
plight. This single action alone launched us into the world of Beowulf, letting us see. Perhaps, if that
is not convincing, we should look at lines 370 through 374, where Beowulf and his men stood, ready
to fight, and die for their beliefs. Concluding this segment, we shall look at lines 465 through 466,
where, despite being an elderly man who had ruled Geatland for fifty years, stood his ground of
against the dragon, and courageously died to for the protection of

  • 2. Differences Between Virginia And Virginia Virginia has differences and similarities when it comes to slave narratives. To explain further Virginia was the first in English history to become the royal colony. However, this is why the details and experiences that these ex slaves gave in describing the institution of slavery and the practice of slavery were tremendously important the English kings that were always occupied. Virginia House in the late 1630 s was highly recognized. Sir William Berkeley became governor in 1941, the colony was well established and extended on this. European settlers had come on legal contracts as servants, but many of them became working as freemen and farmers. There were 250 Africans that came on board to work and were also slaves. They all were in with the merchant class the had families in Virginia but was solely controlled by the government. However, white males mostly had legal rights to owning properties in colonial periods and they were qualified to vote. The white settlers had their own religious beliefs, they were Anglicans, while the early settlers that were based in New York were either Puritans, Quakers, Protestants, or Lutheran and also Morgans. The England civil war was introduced by Anglicans and support that looked up to Charles I, also many of them came to Virginia to settle. The primary objective of this research was to produce a study that displayed that chronic coffee consumption has preventative effects in mammals. This paper will allow me to trace the method that the scientists used in this particular mice experiment. Using the scientific method during the mice experiment allowed the scientists to ask certain questions, make observations, and receive answers to their questions. During this experiment twenty one mice were tested to determine whether water or diluted black coffee would lower the mice blood glucose levels. Through my research and examination of this experiment I will develop a hypothesis and come to a conclusion on the basis of the research provided. Identifying the Steps, Observations, and Hypothesis The identified steps of the scientific method are ask a question, do background research, construct a hypothesis, test your hypothesis by doing an experiment, analyze your data and draw a conclusion, and communicate your results. The observations the scientist made leading up to this experiment were that mice, which are mammals, have a relatively similar body system to that of a human. The fact that mice s DNA is so similar to that of a human and that their life span is so short, scientist can observe how this experiment will affect their bodies in a much faster frame of time. The hypothesis drawn from this experiment seems to be at odds with the blood glucose in the mice that consumed the coffee rather than the water had dropped ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is through the work of Pasteur that we know to wash our hands to prevent that spread of germs, that medical instruments need to be sterilized, and his research on germ theory led to the development of antibiotics. His initial motivation was a love of science, but his research and life events led him to ask important science questions that begged to be answered. After his initial research on crystallization and how polarized light passed through them he became associated with another scientist named Biot. It was after testing Pasteur s theories that the two became good friends and colleagues. Pasteur s work into the study of disease and vaccination was further spurred on when two of his daughters died of typhoid. Pasteur s study of crystallography gained him great recognition and he became the Dean of the Faculty of Science Lille. • 10. A Dream Of Passion By Euripides Medea And Apollonius s... The character Medea is a well known character throughout Greek culture due to Euripides s Medea and Apollonius s Argonautika. Jules Dassin s A Dream of Passion presents the story of Medea in a modern way, allowing myth and reality to intertwine. Because the film is based on the myth, the two main characters in the film, Maya and Brenda, share many qualities to Medea, such as killing of their children. Common themes, such as the position of women in society, are also presented in both mediums. These similarities show that Euripides and Dassin are conveying the same ideas using different methods. As stated in the paragraph above, Maya has a lot in common with Medea. However, we do not see that until later in the movie. She originally starts off as a character who is very unlike Medea. She does not understand the passion of Medea. Kostas, the director, asks her to repeat Okay. My director, my love. When she does, her love does not come across and this frustrates him. According to Kostas, No love is no passion and no passion is no Medea. At this point, we already see the differences between Maya and Medea. Early in the film, Maya claimed that she would rather go to battle than to give birth to a child. It is evident she wants to focus on acting, hoping to revive her career. She seems to care only about her image; she demands the costume designer to pick out costumes that make her look younger. • 11. A Research On A Surrogacy Contract A surrogacy contract is a document signed by two people or parties that agree with traditional or gestational surrogacy; one party receives monetary compensation while the other receives a child. Currently there is a sharp increase in the number of foreign inquiries to India in pursuit of finding women willing to be a surrogate (Gentleman, p.2). This can be seen as taking advantage of a poverty loomed country as the money is hard for these impoverished women to turn away (Gentleman, p.3). The surrogacy market is estimated to bring in $445 million annually to India and is expected to grow as news of the success stories become known (Warner, p.2). In the US the cost of surrogacy is approximately $75,000 to $80,000 per pregnancy, however in India, where commercial surrogacy is legal the price comes to around $25,000 (Sandel, p.100). The Indian surrogate will receive about $7,500 for their services, which is many times their potential annual income (Sandel, p.100). Surrogacy raises questions about the market s ethical limits due to the belief that affluent consumers are exploiting economically challenged women s reproductive systems in exchange for money, which Sandel criticizes as being degrading or dehumanizing (Sandel, p.96). Sandel objects to surrogacy contracts or reproductive outsourcing because he believes treating babies and pregnancy as commodities degrades them, or fails to value them appropriately meaning the market of surrogacy and surrogacy contracts are ... The organizations theories correlate together in order for organizations to sustain functionality. In all organizations there is a common unit of power that directs the organization toward a common goal. Within the Department of Health and Human Resources, the source of power is the commissioner, and the direction of the department is to have zero child fatalities and maintain safety of children. The classical model focuses on the structure of the organization. The decision making starts at the top, with the person in power and trickles down to the employees in the organizations. Hence, the person in power has the authority and decision making capability. This is also known as bureaucracy, which occurs within a government institution such as; when meetings occur, the commissioner will make the final decisions about goals and how to implement those goals. All organizations recognize that decisions have to be made. The decision theory is similar to the classical model in how decisions are made and who makes the decisions. The person in power makes the decision, and the ultimate outcome is to achieve a common goal. Decisions are made on rationale when possible, but achieving a perfect goal is not the ultimate goal. When conflict occurs it is embraced, and organization work to accommodate or even coerce members to achieve common goals. Human relations theory is derived from the machine ... Women have been fighting for equal rights and equal pay since the 19th century and it is about time women and men doing the same job are paid the same amount. The solution to this is simple: pay women and men equal wages for equal work. This would seem to be common sense, but it is still something we are fighting for. Census data shows median yearly income for men in Travis County is approximately $10,000 higher than for women (kxan.com). Values such as compassion, awareness, and intelligence will make a leader that not only is well respected by coworkers but also trusted in their position of management. The Dalai Lama teaches how important it is to have ethics and compassion engrained in a lifestyle and business world. Students attending this seminar will be exposed to a new kind of knowledge allowing them to learn how to work and lead effectively. I believe that Santa Clara University is making a mark on students that goes beyond their college years or career. It realizes the importance that lies in technical knowledge and life skills. Compassion is important to the corporate world because as the Dalai Lama believes, it is a part of being human. Sometimes being human is not associated with business; however, I think it s important for students to learn how to be compassionate. The importance of compassion will allow workers to have more tolerance towards people and pay attention to the big picture and let go of minor details so they work more efficiently towards their goal. Powerful and compassion are often not thought about in a combination. The Dalai Lama is a living example of how to put both of those qualities together. There was little perceptible difference between an adult and their younger counterparts. By the Middle Ages and up until the Renaissance, girls as young as twelve were still considered marriageable age. Sexualizing children was a form of their education and indoctrination into the world of adults. However, in the modern time, we have come to understand that children and childhood is a time for innocence and development. The historical adulteration of children was rightly seen as barbaric and archaic. Forcing children into adult roles can lead to a destructive adulthood. Physical and emotional abuse of children can destroy someone. Even worse is the type of abuse characterized by sexual activity and sexual interaction with children. The sexual abuse of children leads to abnormal development and an adult with severe mental problems, prone to violence and often continuing the chain of abuse into subsequent generations. Forcing a child to commit sexual acts before they are physically or mentally mature enough to handle it is the worst kind of crime. Yet, in nations all over the world, this kind of abuse not only occurs, but is a profitable business for perpetrators. Her attorney argued that she should never have been brought to trial because the material evidence resulted from an illegal, warrant less search. Because the search was unlawful, he maintained that the evidence was illegally obtained and must also be excluded. In its ruling, the Supreme Court of Ohio recognized that ?a reasonable argument? could be made that the conviction should be reversed ? because the ?methods? employed to obtain the evidence?were such as to offend a sense of justice.? But the court also stated that the materials were admissible evidence. The Court explained its ruling by differentiating between evidence that was peacefully seized from an inanimate object, such as a trunk, rather than forcibly seized from an individual. Based on this decision, Mapp s appeal was denied and her conviction was upheld. Mapp appealed again to the Supreme Court of the United States in 1961. The case basically came down to this fundamental question: may evidence obtained through a search in violation of the Fourth Amendment be admissible in state criminal proceedings? We wonder if all of our routines and tips used for school work actually guarantee our success as a student. As it may only help somewhat and not give us the result we desire. If genes were entirely what made up a person, than abortion would not be acceptable, but that is not the case. In very early stages of a pregnancy, Buddhists don t think of the fetus as a person yet. I am a Japanese Buddhist. Where I m from, Buddhism is a little bit different. A lot of Buddhists consider abortion a moral crime, but in Buddhist metaphysics, the life force comes from an existence which is fluid like water and returns to that existence. The fetus is understood to be in a stage of becoming a discrete thing passing out of the ancient waters. Life that appears in our world or in a woman s uterus is the formation of a being that was before in the liquid like state of another reality. Children are liquid and only gradually solidify into humans, this process not being realized until after birth. Accordingly, the newborn gradually make the transition from the world of the gods and Buddhas into that of human beings. • 47. Summary Of The Symbolism InNovostroika By Maria Reva For many, governments offer guidance and reliance; citizens enjoy security, order, and direction from their political leaders. Yet some forms of government specifically Communism cause instability, confusion, and distraction in the lives of their citizens. In Maria Reva s short story Novostroika, she depicts the animosity of a young Ukrainian man, Daniil Blinov, who battles the oppressions of Communist life. In his position, Danill struggles to keep his family satiated under the dominion of the U.S.S.R. This leads to various dilemmas throughout the piece. Within this story, Reva incorporates a space heater, a symbol of hope, and a coffin, a symbol of oppression, to convey how Communism crushes the hope of its citizens. Reva establishes this short lived hope within the first symbol: a space heater. In doing so, she shifts from a persistent defeated outlook to an encouraging perspective on the characters dilemmas. The Blinov family procures the space heater with Daniel s grandfather s life savings, which he had been keeping for hard times, and hard times had arrived (Reva 227). Congruently, they had enough [...] to buy one space heater, allowing the situation to resemble fate. At this moment, the symbol emerges within the story. Now, the characters have a tangible item to prosper from, to grant them perseverance. In this story, set in 1988, the U.S.S.R. began to rapidly decay. • 48. Broadway Play Compare And Contrast Essay I watched Broadway Play and Baz Luhrman The first difference I noticed after watching two scenes was the involvement of audience. Broadway Play is a recorded film of a live play in which audiences and actors both exist actors must not only speak their lines to portray and reveal their emotions, but must also speak their lines in a way the audience can understand it. Baz Luhrman, on the other hand, is a film with a purpose to emphasize the theme of Romeo and Juliet with its viewers. There are no restrictions in which actors speak their lines, as long as the main message can be understood by the viewers. Involvement of audience also can be related to how music is being used in the two scenes. In Broadway Play, music seems to be used as a transition between dialogues of characters. The scene first starts off with a lively music, but the sound decreases as Lord Capulet takes control. In Baz Lurhman, music is used to maximize the emphasis on the love of Romeo and Juliet. An example would be when Romeo and Juliet are staring at each other, with an aquarium in between. No words are spoken, but as Romeo and Juliet slowly engage in each other, viewers can easily understand that the two are in love. I do admit that the settings in Baz Luhrman feels much more like the settings Shakespeare would ve written in his plays, but there are so much things going on in a scene in Baz Luhrman and it sometimes can be hard to understand what the characters are trying to ... • 49. R. E. M s Song Find The River R.E.M s song, Find the River , has many shared images and symbols with Herman Hesse s novel, Siddhartha . In reading both the book and Michael Stipes lyrics, one can imagine that Stipe was familiar with the Hesse book. The book tells the story of Siddhartha, a young Brahmin who chooses to leave the comfort of family and home to find his spiritual truth. During the story Siddhartha has a son who decides that he must seek his own knowledge and comfort through materialism. It is possible to read Michael Stipe s song as Siddhartha sharing the lessons he has learned on his journey toward enlightenment with little Siddhartha. The title, Find the River , could be read as an instruction to find his own river or truth and to not task in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The song begins with telling the listener that they need to slow down and consider a different path to wisdom, Hey now, little speedy head, the read on the speed meter says, you have to go to task in the city . The song encourages the listener to do as the speaker has done, I have got to leave to find my way . This is heard in the beginning of Siddhartha, when he decides to leave his father s home, He had begun to suspect that his worthy father and his other teachers, the wise Brahmins, had already passed onto him the bulk and best of their wisdom, that they had already poured the sum total of their knowledge into his waiting vessel and the vessel was not full. (pp.5). Stipe repeats the same idea when he says, I have got to find the river, Bergamot and vetiver run through my head and fall away . Bergamot and Vetiver are common incense tools used in Hindu temples and religious rituals, and the speaker in Find the River , seems to say these tools run through his mind but are of no use, and that he must find the truth through finding his river . He repeats this encouragement in the last stanza , There is nothing left to throw of ginger, lemon, indigo, coriander stem and rose of hay. Strength and courage overrides the privileged and weary eyes . Again, the speaker is imagining tools of his religion and overcoming the weariness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Masculinity In Bruce Wayne And Joey Tribbiani Society is the number one determinant on how an individual is supposed to act given their sex. If an individual is born with male reproductive parts, they must act a certain way in order to be accepted by the larger population. When a boy starts to engage in certain activities that are not defined as masculine he is shamed, and it is unbelievably hard to maintain his social status that he may have once had, or was striving to attain. There are a few different theories when it comes to masculinity and how it is defined. Also, actions that may be engaged that could hurt a male s ego, are expressing health concerns. Men feel like they should not express when they are physically in pain, which explains the significantly lower amount of doctor visits that are attended ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When I think about Joey Tribbiani I think of the guy that has little manners, no filter, and cracks a joke at the most inappropriate times. Also, he s the kind of guy that is physically hurt, as he was in one episode on Friends, and refused to go to the doctor to get help, because of course he is too much of a man. In addition, Joey is very smooth when it comes to whoever he is talking to, whether it be another man or a female, and I feel as though the way that he gets what he wants, or is respected is by his charismatic ways. As I have mentioned before, he is not the most intimidating of men, but that does not mean that he doesn t fit under this hegemonic theory. As for Bruce Wayne, he is extremely smart, unlike Joey who is not very educated at all. However, Bruce Wayne is also very serious, he is your typical man that shows zero emotions, and if he does it is extremely brief. Bruce Wayne manages to get the things he desires by using his intellectual skills, or by literally buy whatever it may be for an outrageous amount of money. He is your typical Caucasian heterosexual male, that is in complete control of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. How Does Beowulf Show Courage Beowulf was a valiant, courageous, honorable warrior. Beowulf, who is the main character in the epic poem Beowulf , was widely known to possess highly sought after traits. For examples, we will use his strength, nobility, and perseverance that he displays every day of his life. However, we are going to focus on his other personality traits of honor, bravery, and courage in this very informative essay. First, let us look at Beowulf s honor. There is no question that his honor lust is earmarked in every single one of his actions. Every act he committed was contemplated and examined to be performed in the most honorable way possible. Much like the Japanese society in today s modern day and age, his decisions always were thought out to have some kind of honor. Referencing to lines 265 through 269, he remarks how Higlac, his uncle and king, would think less of him had he used a shield and sword in the battle with an unarmed monster. Sure, this may seem much like common sense, of not wanting to disappoint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Courage, by definition, is The ability to do something that frightens one s self . This, may sound an awful lot like Bravery, the last topic that we had discussed. However, courage and bravery is not the same thing, just very similar. I will first reference lines 113 and 114, where Beowulf declared that a boat shall be outfitted for the trip from Geatland to Denmark, in order to assist the Danes with their plight. This single action alone launched us into the world of Beowulf, letting us see. Perhaps, if that is not convincing, we should look at lines 370 through 374, where Beowulf and his men stood, ready to fight, and die for their beliefs. Concluding this segment, we shall look at lines 465 through 466, where, despite being an elderly man who had ruled Geatland for fifty years, stood his ground of against the dragon, and courageously died to for the protection of ...
