Rhetorical Devices In Supersize Me
Super Size Me is a documentary that was created to influence the U.S about obesity. Morgan Spurlock
the creator and director of this documentary decided to show the U.S what McDonalds can do to
trigger obesity, he shows fake pathos using the persuasive and film devices that effects the sequence of
the audio content and film arrangement. Tampering with the music in certain parts of the documentary,
can give the audience a sense of distasteful emotion towards McDonalds. In the documentary there is
a scene of when young children playing in McDonalds there is a song called Rock n roll McDonalds
with the lyrics; McDonalds will make you fat, they serve big macs and quarter pounders, they will put
pounds on you... (REFERENCE) with this the song ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spurlock uses himself in this experiment to create a rhetorical work of ethos. By giving truth towards
the audience would make them feel like they are watching a true documentary that is impartial,
unbiased and a truth speaker. In the beginning of the documentary Spurlock tells the audience that
more than 60% of all U.S adults are overweight or obese. It then goes to say Is fast food really that
bad for you... would I suddenly be on the fast track to becoming an obese American... let s find out. I
m ready. Super size me. (REFERENCE) Spurlock is stating that he is ready to start this experiment
using his own body even though he knows the negative effects. Spurlock used the persuasive device
ethos, by using his own body it gives the audience the feeling like they have a relationship with
Spurlock. Ethos is a way to convince their audience through the author s or director s character.
Spurlock gives a little bibliography at the beginning telling the audience about his food life . Spurlock
says, When I was growing up, my mother cooked dinner every single day... memories of her are in the
kitchen...never ate out... (REFERENCE) By saying those things, it gives the audience the feelings of
thoughtfulness and a closer relationship then just a director and audience. These was one of the good

The History Of The Ishango Bone

Pellagra Research Paper
Pellagra is a disease which is caused as a result of a deficiency is vitamin B 3, also known as niacin.
Pellagara can be identified in two ways with the first being Primary pellagra which is the result of not
enough niacin in the body or Secondary pellagra which is the result of there being enough niacin in
the body, but there is an inhibitant which will prevent the absorption of niacin and the processing of
niacin by the body. Both Primary and Secondary pellagra can result in a patient having diarrhea,
vomiting, fatigue, dementia and dermatitis. This is a severe condition which if left untreated will lead
to the death being the outcome for the patient. Pellagra is not a current danger in the United States and
internationally is seen in under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In most instaces a person being treated for pellagra should see improvement within two days of their
treatment plan beginning. The primary goal of a treatment plan will be to raise the level of niacin in
the body. While the main focus will be in placing niacin in the body to get niacin to optimal levels,
there may be instances in which treatment will cause for other supplements to be take in addition to
the increases niacin. Many times this diet will include a high protein diet along with an infusion of B
complex vitamins because many times the patient will have other nutrion related issues in addition to
niacin deficiency when diagnosed with pellagara. Patients may be on bedrest while undergoing
treatment for

Ethical Principles, Applied To The Use Of Professional Ethics
Professional Ethics
When ethical principles are applied to the use of professional ability to general situations, then
Professional ethics takes its origin. Those who are working in acknowledged professions exercise
specialist knowledge and skill. How the use of this knowledge should be governed when providing a
service to the public can be considered a moral issue and is termed professional ethics. Professionals
are capable of making judgments, applying their skills and reaching informed decisions in situations
that the general public cannot, because they have not received the relevant training. One of the earliest
examples of professional ethics is probably the Hippocratic Oath to which medical doctors still adhere
to this day. Professional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus it is also a form of applied ethics. It applies to all aspects of business conduct and is relevant to
the conduct of individuals and entire organizations. Business ethics has both normative and
descriptive dimensions. As a corporate practice and a career specialization, the field is primarily
normative. Academics attempting to understand business behavior employ descriptive methods. The
range and quantity of business ethical issues reflects the interaction of profit maximizing behavior
with non economic concerns. Interest in business ethics accelerated dramatically during the 1980s and
1990s, both within major corporations and within academia. For example, today most major
corporations promote their commitment to non economic values under headings such as ethics codes
and social responsibility charters. Adam Smith said, People of the same trade seldom meet together,
even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in
some contrivance to raise prices. Governments use laws and regulations to regulate business
behavior.Ethics implicitly regulates areas and details of behavior that lie beyond governmental

Soviet Submarines in Red Star Rogue by Kenneth Sewell
The novel Red Star Rogue is a novel about a particular submarine that served in the Soviet Pacific
Fleet during the Cold War. The book follows the Golf Class submarine K 129 on her final mission
which occurred in the spring of 1968. K 129 was a Soviet ballistic missile submarine whose purpose
was to launch nuclear weapons at the United States in case of the commencement of hostilities
between the two superpowers. The author Kenneth Sewell, who is a former submarine officer
(Hutchinson) does an outstanding job of not only describing the overall picture, but also breaking
down not only the submarine, but also the men who served on her final mission. He provides personal
information about everyone from the commanding officer all the way ... Show more content on

Another strange occurrence is that 15 extra sailors boarded shortly before departure. This was rare in
that the crew of 83 men was already at full muster. The submarine set sail, and things appeared to be
going smoothly. The submarine is heading to its assigned patrol area in the central Pacific. Suddenly,
on March 1st, after a week at sea, the first indication that something is amiss aboard the submarine
comes... (77) K 129 failed to send its regularly scheduled message to fleet headquarters. Four days
later, on March 5th, another signal that something is wrong on board. The submarine instead of
slowing down to begin the usual silent patrolling in the mission, K 129 keeps sailing towards Pearl
Harbor. (78) After two weeks at sea, the submarine surfaces and then proceeds to attempt a nuclear
missile launch at Pearl Harbor. The author points out that what exactly happened will never be known
unless Russian files are declassified and the CIA release what documents they recovered from the
submarine. Although Mr. Sewell cannot provide a first hand account, he can relate with a fair degree
of certainty what happened based on his experience as a submariner and his experience in dealing with
the Soviet navy. Also with the use of recently declassified documents, Mr. Sewell can provide more
accurate descriptions of what possibly happened then anyone before. The last section of the book is
something that thrill writers like Tom Clancy or

Ethical Hedonism In Robert Nozick s The Experience Machine
Robert Nozick was a modern day American philosopher, who had a large variety of philosophical
questions regarding the workings of the modern world (Feser), in 1974 Nozick finished work on his
book which would give birth to the Experience Machine . In Anarchy, State, and Utopia (Nozick
1974), Nozick created the thought experiment The Experience Machine with which he attempts to
challenge the idea of ethical hedonism (42). The Experience Machine is a thought experiment, in
which a person is given the choice of entering a machine that would stimulate pleasure into a person s
brain using a machine, and that the person could not distinguish the differences between the machine
and reality, in some variations of the experiment, once a person enters the machine, that person cannot
leave. (Nozick 1974, 42 43) According to Nozick, a person should choose not to enter the Experience
Machine, Nozick expresses that it would be unethical to enter the Experience Machine due to none of
those experiences, and the memories that come from them, being real, and that since they are all
created in a man made reality, that they should hold no value to a person (43). Nozick s notion that
one should choose not to enter the Experience Machine is correct, while it allows people to experience
anything they ever wanted, a person should not enter the Experience Machine, because it creates a
false sense of reality due to how people cannot differentiate the two, it doesn t allow people to do
things

Hong Kong With Our Newest Acquisition Yammer
In conclusion I recommend we expand to Hong Kong with our newest acquisition Yammer.
When we look at the financial health of the company and our current ratio is 2.50 meaning for every
dollar the company owes it has $2.50 of assets, and the quick ratio is 2.44. These are huge and strong
ratios and the main reason I know the company can expand its operations overseas with this new
product. The tax situation is Hong Kong is very attractive to all types of companies. The rates here in
the United States the company pays 27.1%, while in Hong Kong the tax rate is only 16%. This tax
saving alone has the ability to increase profits. The company s debt is very low as indicated by the
debt ratio of
.48, so fir every .48 cents the company owns $1.00 worth of assets. The company currently generates
.13cents in profit for every one dollar in profit. These ratios will go up with less of a tax burden. If we
take the 16% tax and apply it to gross profits we show a nice increase in net profit and all the financial
ratios go up respectively. This potential addition profit will benefit current and future shareholders
with elevated dividends and more retained earnings which we can use to finance other operations or
expand the operation that I am proposing.
I feel we can expand this potential operation after only 2 years. I feel that time frame will allow us the
opportunity to fine tune the Yammer product for the Pacific Rim, while still offering the existing
product for transplants in this

Pre-College Personal Statement
Pre College
I was raised by two Asian immigrants, I spent most of my childhood with strict life expectations. My
parents cared about pushing me to become a doctor and with that academic success. I rebelled most of
it only seeing it as a negative in my life.
That kind of lifestyle made me look at academics as a negative while games are positive. My parents
did not have the same look for those as I did. That being the case, I hid all traces to gaming from them
and only showed them my lacking academic side. I received okay grades, B s and C s, up until high
school when I received my first A in a computer science course.
Computer science became my passion. The positivity I received fueled my passion for computer

They thought the only way to learn was from a book. They did not believe that computer science
could be a stable, successful career compared a medical career. That mentality led me to apply as a
biology major.
My first quarter at UCR was filled with chemistry and biology classes. I persuaded my parents to
allow me to take a computer science course. I loved that class. I did well in that class. It was the class I
looked forward to after my chemistry and biology classes. I switched majors after that quarter to
computer science.
College
I am passionate about computer science. Computer science is a field I can be creative and meaningful.
I can create a program in x amount of time which can save people xn amount of time. The return on
investment is great and the smiles are a plus.
I continue through computer science even, though it can be hard at points because of those smiles. The
programs that I make can be shared with those around the word. The cost of production is near zero; I
don t have to worry about getting funding to prototype. I can create a solution to a real world problem
very easily and very cheaply.

Who Is Banquo s Ambition In Macbeth
Ambition
Kierra Corrigan Little
Macbeth, a play composed by William Shakespeare, revolves around the character Macbeth and his
intentions to acquire anything he needs, as well as killing his most loyal companions, to accomplish
being King of Scotland. The want of this greed starts after Macbeth encounters The Three Witches and
becomes attenitive of what they re saying. Listening to what the witches have to say encourages the
worst of Macbeth to eliminate the one who trusted him as much as to name him Thane of Cawdor, he
will do anything in order to be crowned as King. After fulfilling his need to become King of Scotland,
he must stay in power, the hard work must not go to waste, again doing anything he needs to do, no

Formerly Macbeth s ally, Banquo, was accompanying Macbeth and the Three Witches whilst they
spoke of Macbeth s powerful future. Banquo had heard everything they had said to Macbeth. After the
King had been killed, Banquo became skeptical of Macbeth s actions, and wondered if he had been a
part of the killings in order to become king. Knowing that Banquo was aware of all conversing
between the witches and himself, Macbeth needed him gone. But to be safely thus; our fears in
Banquo stick deep;... He hath a wisdom that doth guide his valour to act in safety. (Act. 3, Scene. 1,
Line 53 74) Macbeth speaks of his fears that Banquo may spread his wisdom among others, leading to
them getting closer to finding out Macbeth is a cold blooded killer. Macbeth hires hitmen to kill
Banquo and his son (Fleance) in order to keep it more unknown and obvious to the public. Fleance
escapes the murder, leaving his father behind only because Banquo screamed to Fleance to run. When
Macbeth hears this news he still feels threatened but never get to kill Fleance. Fleance now fatherless
and Banquo dead, Macbeth s ambition to stay the king affects them negatively, only because Banquo

Urbanization Differences Between The Third World And The...
Urbanization differences between the Third World and the First world would be characterized by their
large which took over nearby towns, along with exertion by way of economic, social, cultural, and
political dominance. Third World cities also have very different histories and characteristics than the
First World cities. According to Gottdiener s text, The key differences involves factors such as elite
power, state policies, integration into the global economy, and the effects of class structure capitalism.
( Smith Timberlake, 1993)(p. 284) The developing nations were often seen as periphery whereas the
developed nations are seen as the core. Mainly because the less developed countries were targeted for
their resources. Resources, such as, agriculture, tourism, or a place to operate a strategic, military
base. All this is just another way of saying that the developed nations were exploiting the developing
nations through their people, products and resources both natural and manmade. All that this
accomplished was to make the developing nations more wealthy and the developing nations were
provided jobs but at the expense of people both local and rural and immigrants in search of jobs that
led to over population, lack of housing and shortage of jobs. This of course leads to more problems
that the developed nations have experienced and dealt with and have almost succeeded in solving
completely but the developing nations have yet to find their own solutions to deal with

White House React To Women s March With Silence Analysis
The article of the week White House reacts to Women s March With Silence was basically about how
Donald Trump is ignoring all the protests right outside the White House. The article was week was
interesting, because of the way reacted to the protests. There were hundreds of thousand of people
protesting for Women s March all over the country. What I learned from the article is how hundreds of
thousands of people protested against Donald Trump. It surprises me that Trump barely reacted to the
protesters right outside the White House.
First of all, I think Donald Trump shouldn t have ignored the protests. He addressed the protests with a

Which means he obviously saw them. Then, Trump s Press Secretary Sean Spicer planned to make a
statement. All Spicer did was scold reporters, and he did not answer any protest question. I researched
inaugurations and I found that a inauguration is the transfer of power from the previous president to
president elect. Donald Trump s inauguration was on January 20th 2017. Supreme Court Chief Justice
John Roberts swore in Donald Trump. Since Trump is our new president, he should at least address the
protesters.
Besides, the first amendment law states congress shall make no law abridging freedom of speech. I
think it is really amazing so many came to protest outside the White House. I didn t think so many
people would be protesting. I really think all these protests are great, we are using the first
amendment. All these woman marching down to the White to protest against Trump, I am so glad they
are doing this. If no one says anything about what they think is wrong, nothing will ever change. I
personally think Trump is not fit to be president. Trump is disrespecting all the protesters by ignoring

J. M Barries Peter Pan Chapter Summaries
J.M Barries Peter Pan is a childrens book. This book is about a group of young boys who live on the
island of Neverland. The boys never want to grow up. When they find Wendy and take her to
Neverland Peter and the lost boys ask her to be their mother. After Wendy stays awhile and acts like a
mother, the lost boys realize they have some growing up to do. Even though it s not what they want to
do. This is why i think motherhood is very important especially in this story. The main setting in this
story is in Ms. Darling nursery. In the nursery at the beginning and end of the story is where I believe
the importance of motherhood is shown. This is because Wendy and her little brothers are cared for
here. They are treated and raised with respect. This is where Wendy learns how to nurture and care, ...

loves and respects her mother by the way she talks up the mothers of the lost boys to get them to go

Wendys mother in the book is a very fine lady. Ms. Darling takes great care of her children. She even
gave them her wedding dress and made her children bed sheets out of them. She thinks her children
are sweet and always loves spending time with them. Wendy has a special relationship with Peter Pan.
Tinkerbell is very jealous of it. She throws fits and pulls Wendys hair. She yells in a language that only
Peter can understand saying rude things about wendy. Tink feels it is a romantic relationship when the
rest of us see it a mother and son type relationship. When Wendy arrives in neverland her motherhood

Uranium Mining Essay
Uranium was discovered by Martin Klaproth in 1789. Klaproth was a German Chemist that
discovered Uranium in a mineral call pitchblende. It was named after Uranus, the planet, which had
been discovered eight years earlier. Uranium occurs in most rocks in concentrations of 2 to 4 parts per
million and is common in the Earth s crust. This highly density element is used in keels of yachts and
as counterweights for aircraft control surfaces, as well as for radiation shielding. This element
principal uses is in fuel for nuclear reactors and the main raw material for nuclear weapons. Depleted

It can combine with and bind citrates and carbonates in your body. It can deposit in your liver, spleen,

element. Uranium mining is a major occupation where people are dealing with this element in the
industry world. Overexposures to this hazard is dealt with when mining. Major mining are done in
Australia and Canada, which has been done for over 40 years. Safety regulations today are among the
most comprehensive and stringent in the world. It has been reported due to inspections that radiation
doses in the mines are well within regulatory limits. In occupational settings, the Occupational Safety
and Health Act (OSHA) regulates the limits of worker exposures based on the solubility of the
uranium compound. The Department of Energy (DOE) has issued regulations applicable to its
facilities that limit environmental discharges and worker exposure to uranium isotopes. OSHA has
established the permissible exposure level (PEL) for airborne uranium in the workplace as 0.25
milligrams cubic meter at a time weighted average (TWA) of a 40 hour workweek. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) has established a maximum contaminant level (MCL) for uranium of 30
micrograms per liter (µg/L) in drinking water. The MCL is the maximum permissible level of a
contaminant in water that is delivered to any user of a public water system. EPA finalized this MCL

The Design Of The Architecture Profession
What is an architect? Throughout the years, the architecture profession has been seen to be questioned.
Many theorists have debated the functionality and point of views of different forms in regards to this
question. These perceptions of the architect are still being written at the present moment. These
statements refer to a meaning that is perceived and read on a global scale. It is still unclear who has
the correct solution or whether it might appear. This paper will look into two contemporary writers
that examine the form of the architect within their point of view. These writers were chosen due to
their recent works on the matter at hand. First, Peggy Deamer, a Professor of Architecture and
Assistant Dean at Yale University, examines the architecture in the essence of the profession. She
looks into the contributions of the architect and their work and the utopia of the profession. On the
other hand, Alicia Carrio, an Argentinian architect and active member of a cultural and social
organization in Malaga, Spain. Her writing examines the social role of the architect and the need to
provide to the social aspect of the profession. This paper will look into this two point of view and
comprehend their meaning of the architect.

world. In her writing Work she views the architect not as an individual but rather look into what the

The Tropical Rainforest Biome In Tropical Rainforests
The tropical rainforest biome is an ecosystem covering around 6% of the Earth s surface and being a
home to over 50% of the plant and animal species. These environments are hot and humid all year
round, with the average amount of rainfall being 250cm per year. The temperatures in a rain forest
minimum tends to be around 20OC with the temperature not rising above 34OC regularly. Tropical
rainforests are found spanning from both sides of the equator between the tropic of Cancer and the
tropic of Capricorn meaning rainforests are in Central and South America, Southeast Asia, Africa and
Australia.
Deforestation has been a major concern in tropical rainforests, this is an act of destructing a forest for
multiple reasons including wood supply, agriculture purposes or the extraction of minerals and energy.
Forest loss till date is 18.03 million acres per year and it has been estimated that within 100 years all
rainforests will be destroyed.

Forbidden Lies By Norma Khouri
The history of publishing has been plagued with literary hoaxes from the somewhat harmless Ern
Malley hoax to the most recent Belle Gibson scandal. Unfortunately literary hoaxes will continue to
happen, unless publishers begin to fact check manuscripts before publication. Publishers claim they
are unable to do this due to the financial cost of the procedure and this is a believable claim. If you
spoke to an average person they would say that the print industry is dying, thanks to the rise of digital
technology, and there has been a downturn in profits.
However, regardless of whether the print industry actually is dying or not, a publisher is responsible,
both legally and ethically, for every manuscript they put onto our shelves. This essay argues that
publishers need to make fact checking part of the standard publishing procedure to uphold their legal
and ethical responsibilities to the public. Forbidden Lies by Norma Khouri will be used as a case study
throughout the essay. First, this essay will give a brief overview of the Norma Khouri hoax, then move
on to discuss why fact checking is not commonplace in the book publishing industry. Next, it will
assess where the legal and ethical responsibilities lie with the author or publisher. After this, it will
examine the financial repercussions and damage to a publisher s reputation after the publication of a
literary hoax. Then, it will begin to examine the ethical damage literary hoaxes cause to the readers
who are

Mandaean Chapter 4
In Chapter 4, Turning the Tables on Jesus: the Mandaean View , by Jorunn Jacobsen Buckley, states
that studying the descendents of the firsts followers of Jesus, we can have a better understanding of
the social history of the early Christians. The Mandaeans were known as the knower s or Gnostics and
they are the only ones that survived that have a connection to the early Christians. Mandaeans have
their own spoken language and religion with unique ritual practices. In addition, their cultural
traditions come from their literature text. Mandaean ritual s purpose is to control or overcome evil,
which makes them believe that this has saved them from extinction. Mandaean people way of life is
through their religion and history, today we can even find them. Buckley states that evidence suggests
that the Mandaean people may have originated in Palestine during the time of John the Baptist and
Jesus. The Mandeans see themselves as former Judeans from Jerusalem because of traditional
practices. The most important evidence is the linguistic evidence and historical legend in some of

Mental Illness In America Essay
The Stigma of Mental Illness in America I consider myself lucky, lucky that I was able to get help

and we don t know who they are. It could be your frail, quiet, precise mailman, a constantly changing,
moody friend, your very own nervous anxious boss, the rather aggravated stranger you pass by on the
way to work, maybe even the familiar figure looking back at you in the mirror. But we don t know,

More and more celebrities have been stepping out and telling their story to encourage others to get the

like a parasite slowly affecting its prey. With the news constantly exaggerating these stories beyond
their true happenings. With movies using false notions and writing mentally ill off as extreme
violence, unbearable depressives, exaggerated perfectionists, or insane narcissists with no in between.
It is not enough. No matter how much information and knowledge reaches the population it is
immediately crushed by the media of this generation that benefits and profits from these false
depictions. This very stigma that is seeping from the media is mentally poisoning those who are
actually mentally weak to the degree which they are afraid to get help due to fear of not wanting

Also, when looking at the filtrate values under the short wavelength, a value of 0.44 appears to hint at
the existence of the cis, trans isomer which has a literature value of 0.41. The three values for the

oxide, the 0.36 to the trans, trans, and the 0.44 to the cis, trans.
An NMR spectrum was also taken for our product sample which was close to the ideal but was a little

Essay On Modern Day Animal Farm
How Is Islamic State a Modern Day Animal Farm?
Although alluding to a completely different nation in a different time period, George Orwell s animals
in Animal Farm also have their similarities with ISIS, a modern day terrorist organization. George
Orwell alluded to Stalin s USSR(Soviet Union) seventy years ago with this work, but similar allusions
can be made to today s ISIS. ISIS is a modern day Animal Farm because Animal Farm s and ISIS s
leader are very similar, they use a certain ideology to make people believe what they say, and certain
similarities are shared between the pigs and ISIS members.
Animal Farm and ISIS s leaders are similar. In Animal Farm s case it is Napoleon, and in ISIS s case it
is Abu Bakr al Baghdadi. Both are very bad people and are selfish and greedy. Both use propaganda to
make people believe what they say. When Napoleon does something on purpose for his own purpose
which is against the commandments, he makes everyone believe that it meant something else and not

How Did Brown V Board Of Education Affect The Civil Rights...
Because of the Civil Rights movement, new doors of opportunity and education swung open for
everybody ... (Barack Obama). The civil rights movement was a very important part of American
history. This movement made Black people equal to white people. Before the civil rights movement,
black people were treated horribly and were not allowed to do things that white people could do.
Judgement and harassment were a big part of the civil rights era because no one was treated equally.
The Supreme Court effected the civil rights movement in a very positive way: Plessy v. Ferguson,
Brown v. Board of education and Swann v. Charlotte Mecklenburg board of education.
Plessy v. Ferguson was a case that stopped all public places to allow business to any black people.
When the case was announced, immediately businesses took action and started to put up signed that
read Whites Only and No Blacks. The town started to have segregated areas pop up everywhere. For
example, every water fountain had one for the white people and one for the black people. This
occurred with every bathroom, restaurant, or any other public place. While many states followed this

Board of education is another case that was related to segregation. This case stated that all public
schools would be separated into white and black schools not allowing anyone to mix. It was already
hard enough for a black person to experience school already, this case was not making it much easier.
After Plessy v. Ferguson was announced, Brown v. Board of education was born. Plessy v. Ferguson
did not count towards schools so the board of education decided to make all public schools segregated
and the black people would have to find other places to go to school. While the white people stayed at
the schools they where in. Because Swann v. Charlotte Mechlenburg board of education was a case the

Skate Boarding
More Respect for Skater Freaks
The wheels of the board grind across the asphalt pavement, carrying its rider across the parking lot.
His loose clothes rustle in the breeze, and his hair flies around his face until he puts on his baseball
cap to control it. In one fluid movement, he pushes on the back of his board, curls his front foot, and
leaps into the air. But the board seems to have a mind of its own and tangles itself in his feet.

When it comes to his priorities, skating comes before his health, but school comes before skating.
When he falls and gets a cut or the dreaded road rash like carpet burn only on asphalt he doesn t stop
to get a Band Aid or some peroxide for it. Instead, he gets back up and continues skating. Pain seems
to mean little to him and other skaters. Both he and Eric insist that they would break something before
seeing a doctor about it. However, when it comes to school, that takes priority over skateboarding.
Because skating isn t going to take me anywhere, it s just a hobby. It isn t like a career or anything.
And even if it was, I m not that good. Although Lee firmly insists that he does have some sort of
future plans, he refuses to share them with the rest of us sitting around.
As for short term goals, that is to say, what are Lee s goals as a skater? To learn as many tricks as

Role Of Chivalry In Beowulf
The role of chivalry is a complicated concept for solitary heroes within Beowulf and Albrecht Dürer s
Knight, Death, and the Devil. In Beowulf, the concept of chivalry is explained through the eyes of the
hero, Beowulf, which is the idea of performing chivalrous actions in the face of death for glory;
however, Beowulf does not realize that his actions will not keep his people safe in the end. In Knight,
Death and the Devil, the idea of chivalry is the motivation of the knight on religious grounds to be
chivalrous in the face of death. The Knight gives the impression that he understood that his actions
would ultimately be meaningless, and he appears resigned to the idea. The argument can be made that
chivalry is unsustainable in both texts, given that while it inspires these heroes to pursue these tasks,
the result is that they believe that mild sacrifices, such as their own life, must be made to ensure
victory; however, these two texts differ with their heroes anticipated outcomes of their sacrifices,
which turns out to be for nothing. Despite having different outcomes of operating within a system of
chivalry, these two texts similarly critique the outcomes of chivalry as being unsustainable based on
the demands it places on heroes to sacrifice themselves. To defend this claim, I will begin by similarly
critiquing how chivalry is unsustainable within both texts. I will then express how both texts show the
unsustainability results from the demands of sacrifice. I will then

Gender Issues Faced By Women Union Membership Essay
As women continue gaining equal representation within the workforce, it should be unsurprising that
women also are steadily gaining ground within union membership. As women union membership
increases, we would also expect women in roles of union leadership to also increase. This is an
important metric to examine, as there are several gender specific work related issues that women
would benefit from being prioritized. Women consistently see lower wages for the same work, fewer
promotion opportunities, and the added stress of childcare responsibilities typically relegated to
mothers. It is possible, therefore, that women look to union leadership to account for these needs. It is
also then likely that these needs are more consistently prioritized by union leadership where women
are adequately represented. There are many issues facing women today in the workplace. According to
the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics 2013 report, Women in the Labor Force, 76% of the labor force
were mothers with children between the ages of 6 and 17. The median weekly wage for women in
2012 was about 81% of the median weekly wage for men, with a larger discrepancy for minority
women. In 2011, working women were slightly more likely to be under the poverty line than working
men, again, a discrepancy which increased for women who are also part of other minority groups.
Further, about 17% of women with a disability were in the labor force. Childcare, the pay gap, a living

Why Did Paul Wrote The Book Of Colossians
The Apostle Paul wrote the book of Colossians to the church in Colossae. It was thought that Paul
completed this epistle from Rome while he was arrested, between A.D. 60 and 62, unable to travel to
Colossae to help them.1 Paul wrote Colossians primarily to respond to a particular problem. The main
concerns involved in Paul s epistle were the misconstrued doctrine of Christ, and the misinterpretation
of how this doctrine affected and influenced being a follower of Christ.
During the time of this letter, false teachers infiltrated the city of Colossae, spreading doctrine that
provided improper interpretation and emphasis regarding the work of Christ.2 They were changing,
diminishing, and complicating the doctrine of Christ. Paul s efforts

Check A Car Essay
When purchasing a used car, you should check several things, including how the vehicle runs. If you
do not know enough about engines, you can ask to test drive the vehicle to your mechanic or bring a
knowledgeable person with you.
Locate a vehicle and call or email the seller. Ask basic questions such as the condition of the vehicle,
about service records and if it has certain options you are interested in. If you are still interested in
purchasing the vehicle, make arrangements to test drive the vehicle. If you are purchasing from an
individual, you will have to find out when that person is available, but if you are purchasing from a
dealership, you can show up any time during the used car dealership s business hours.

If the vehicle shows low mileage, especially for its age, look at the wear on the brake pedals and under
the floor mats. A vehicle with 60,000 miles on it most likely won t have a severely worn brake pedal.
If you see a severely worn brake pedal on a car with purported low mileage, be very suspicious.
Likewise with worn carpet under the floor mats. The seller or another person could have tampered
with the odometer.
Start the vehicle and listen to the engine. Listen for knocking and squeaking noises. If you do not hear
anything out of the ordinary, test drive the vehicle. Make sure the seller has enough gas in the vehicle
to drive it for at least a mile, preferably two. Some noises and problems do not appear until the vehicle
warms up.
If you are still happy with the condition of the vehicle, take a closer look at the engine. Look at the
belts to ensure there isn t excessive wear. Check the oil. The oil should be clean medium brown to
dark brown. If it is black, even if the seller insists he just changed it, it shows that oil changes have not

Nuclear Weapons And Nuclear Proliferation
Committee 9
Nuclear Proliferation
Vanuatu
(A) Brief Background of the Topic
1.) What is the historical background of this topic?
Nuclear Proliferation is defined as the rapid spread or increase of nuclear weapons. Nuclear
Proliferation has been a conflict worldwide for years. It all started during the Cold War, when the
Soviet Union and the United States competed to obtain more nuclear weapons. As the Cold War
continued, France, Britain, and China all began to develop their own nuclear technology. On July 1,
1968, the Treaty on the Non Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons was signed and entered into force in
1970. Under this treaty, a total of 190 parties have agreed to help prevent the spread of nuclear
weapons. A few years later, the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks non proliferation act (SALT 1) was
signed on May 26, 1972 and entered into force on October 3, 1972. After several years of struggle, the
Cold War ended in December 1991.
2.) What nations are directly involved in this issue?
The top contributors of nuclear proliferation include countries like the United States and Russia
(formerly Soviet Union). These two countries were the first to obtain and test nuclear weapons. They
are responsible for more than 93% of all operational nuclear warheads. United Kingdom, France,
China, India, Pakistan, Israel, and North Korea all created nuclear arsenals to attain these weapons of
mass destruction. The United States currently possesses approximately 7,650 warheads, Russia has

Philosophy of Nursing Practice Essay
Compassion and Caring: My Philosophy of Nursing Practice In nursing, it is important to have a
personal philosophy of the profession. It dictates how a person deals with the day to day tasks and
obstacles that nurses will face. Patient populations are ever changing, with some much sicker than
others, and various lengths of stay expected. The nurse will encounter different cultures and beliefs in
their practice, some contrary to their own. Their philosophy of nursing will be evident with how they

I knew that I did not want to be like that, but that I wanted to take care of sick people and be there for

Essence of Nursing The core of nursing is and should be knowledgeable patient care. The nurse
should be well rounded and possess enough knowledge to know not only the technical aspect of
patient care, but also how to tend to the patients emotional needs. Kagan, Smith, Cowling Chinn
(2009) say It can be argued that the overemphasized focus on technological and medical interventions
rather than on services underpinned by caring practices and humanist nursing values puts the health of
all humans at risk (p. 75). While medical interventions are necessary, the nurse is responsible for
carrying out those interventions in a humane and caring way. If the focus is on the technical side of
nursing, the patient as a person is easily forgotten. I believe that to truly care for a patient, the nurse
must act as a patient advocate. In more recent times, the nurses role as a patient advocate is expanding
and becoming more widely recognized. Influential authors have shown that nurse s role is to speak up
for a patient when they are not able to speak up for themselves. Ann Hamric (as cited in Mahlin 2010,

Peanut Butter is definitely the most popular of the nut butters. This is a somewhat strange fact since
the peanut isn t even a nut; it is actually a legume. Homemade peanut butter really only requires one
ingredient: roasted peanuts. Simply put the desired amount of peanuts into the work bowl of your food

desired consistency, scraping down the sides as needed. That s all you need to do for a basic peanut

Technology Plays Significant Role Today s Society
Technology plays significant role in today s society. With advances in technology, the market of
smartphones has experienced a significant growth since Apple introduced the iPhone in 2007.
Technological advances have also paved way for wearable devices as the next generation of mobile
technology. A wearable device is a small electronic device which can be worn on the body so that an
individual can freely use it even when moving3. An example of such wearable technology is a
smartwatch. A smartwatch is a computerized device with a touchscreen display, designed to be worn
on the wrist. The first smartwatch, Pulsar, was manufactured in 1972 by Hamilton Watch Company.
Earlier models of the smartwatch like Pulsar performed basic tasks such as translation and

Abstract
International business has been a part of society for centuries. With the introduction of modern
technological advances, countries have moved from participating in business ventures primarily by
land or boat and advanced to virtual environments and acquiring passports that enable flights all over
the world. This impact has challenged businesses to improve their cultural relations as they venture
into unknown markets that are on the opposite end of their cultural spectrum and perspective. The
world is a vast melting pot of all walks of life. The business world is no different and requires even
sharper skills, especially when entering environments that may be tense or chaotic. This paper
examines the country of Italy and how its culture impacts business domestically and internationally. It
discusses the various strengths and weaknesses of its economic environment and the potential gains or

Examples Of Greed In Dante s Inferno
In Dante s inferno, Dante first begins describing himself in a dark forest and in the distance on top of a
mountain sees paradise where his love, Beatrice, resides. He then begins making his way to the
mountain when he sees 3 creatures, a lion, a leopard and a she wolf. He then meets the spirit of Virgil,
who was a roman poet. Virgil guides Dante through the 9 rings of hell in order for Dante to reach
Beatrice. They begin at Limbo, Where those who didn t identify as being Christians and those who
were not baptized. In this circle, there is a castle with 7 gates or walls that stood for the 7 virtues. Here
Dante met Socrates, Homer, Cicero, Hippocrates, Aristotle and Julius Caesar. The punishment that is
suffered is knowing that it is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were two types of greed a person would have had, those who hoarded possessions, and those
who carelessly spent them. The punishment was to have an unstoppably heavy weight suppressed onto
one s chest to represent the drive a person had to keep or carelessly spend their riches/possessions. In
this ring Dante saw men of the clergy, including popes and cardinals. I would closely relate greed to
gluttony because the overconsumption of food is basically being greedy and not sharing with others,
even though these two are closely related, I still stand by with rearranging lust and gluttony because I
feel greed is much worse. With Christianity, for the most part, everyone would go out of their way to
help one another. I feel this is mostly among the poorer people because they would appreciate one
another s efforts and open to sharing and trading what they could muster. As for people such as some
kings, popes, and higher classes, since they had their riches, and far more positions, sharing was not
on their agenda, again I m not saying all higher class people did this. For those who carelessly spend
their riches, they only think about themselves rather than helping out the poor. I can think of quite a
few people now a day s that would definitely be ing this ring. I would keep this as the fourth ring
because it s not the worst thing someone can do, but the punishment is defenatly what those who

How Did The Tea Act Angered The Most During The American...
Have you ever wondered what acts angered the colonists most during the American Revolution?
During this time, the American Revolution made colonists want to have independence. After every act
Parliament passed, it made the courage of independence more wanted to the colonists. The acts that
mostly made the colonists want independence were the Tea Act, Coercive Act, and The Stamp Act.
The Tea Act angered, and led the colonists wanting independence because the East India Company
made their tea really cheap and the British tea stayed expensive as it was before. Parliament made the
East India Company tea really cheap, so the colonists would buy their tea, and make the East India
Company gain more money from all the tea bought from the colonists. The colonists thought that was
unfair so they dumped all eighteen million pounds of tea into the Boston Harbor. This was ... Show

This tax was horrible for the colonies because colonists needed to know what was happening since
there was a lot of change happening. So, newspapers were handy. This made sending newsletters to
colonies expensive. The colonists protested and kept repeating, No taxation without representation
This made the colonists boycott British goods.
The Tea Act, Coercive Act, and Stamp Act mostly made the colonists angered, and want
independence. The Tea Act made it unfair with how the East India Company gets a lot of money from
cheap tea the colonists had to buy. The Coercive Act closed the Boston Harbor, made the colonists pay
for the lost tea from the Boston Tea Party, let soldiers barge into their homes, and stay as long as they
wanted to. The Stamp Act gave a huge tax on anything that had to due with paper. This is why the Tea
Act, the Coercive Act, and the Stamp Act made the colonists angered, and want

What Is The Mood Of The Poem Mending Wall
Why Walls?
In the poem Mending Wall the author Robert Frost uses poetic elements to express the idea that
barriers to communication, exchange of ideas and relationships should be questioned. By the use of
particular form, rhythm and tone, his choice of words, and use of imagery and symbols the author uses
a small poem to express a large idea.
The poem is written in blank verse, which is unrimed iambic pentameter. According to the authors of
Backpack Literature, X. J. Kennedy and Dana Gioia, Many writers, such as Robert Frost, feel iambs
most easily capture the natural rhythms of our speech. (503) This is a good choice for this lyric poem
in which the speaker seems to be sharing his observations with the reader as if they were friends. ...

The wall in the poem is a stone wall between the fields belonging to two neighbors. In the spring they
work together to set the wall between us once again (14). The wall is a symbol for division, separation
and barriers to friendship, communication and relationships. The author s use of the tactile image of
we wear our fingers rough with handling them (20) shows how much effort is involved in maintaining
walls. Maintaining distance between other people also requires effort. In the line He is all pine and I
am apple orchard (24) the author uses the symbol of the two different types of trees to represent the
two neighbors, and the difference between staying fixed behind a rigid wall and being willing to be
open to new ideas, to allow the wall to come down. The neighbor s pines are a hard wood with prickly
pine cones and needle shaped leaves that are unchanging as an evergreen. His ideas are also hard and
unchanging. The speaker s trees are deciduous apple trees that provide nourishing food, sweet
smelling flowers and change with the seasons like his openness to the idea of leaving the wall down.
There is also a contrast between the speaker s fanciful description of the something that doesn t love a
wall (35) as elves (36) and the image of the neighbor as an old stone savage

Analysis Of Joachim Patinir s Triptych, The Penitence Of...
Netherlandish use of triptychs three distinct art pieces that simultaneously exist as individual images
and as a collective picture usually were presented as devotional images and altarpieces. Joachim
Patinir s triptych, The Penitence of Saint Jerome (c. 1512 1515, Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY),
employs both the same form of traditional triptychs and the Netherlandish tradition of extended
panoramic landscapes; however, the triptych breaks traditional convention. The three separate panels
share the same landscape which allows the figures to exist in the same pictorial space. This maintains
an unbroken continuation of the landscape, which adds not only to the content within a single panel,
but to the entire narrative of the triptych. Yet, each individual panel is also worthy of its own analysis
and discussion. The left panel depicts the first of three saints, Saint John the Baptist, in the midst of
his signature baptizing of Christ. A river flows from the furthest reaches of the landscape down to the
bottom frame, with Christ standing thigh deep in the water, a dove alighting from God perched in the
clouds in the top left. Saint John kneels over him on the riverbank while a group of people huddle in
the distance behind the baptism scene. In traditional style, the triptych simultaneously depicts a central
scene as well as past and future narrative events present here as Saint John preaching chronologically
before the actual baptism of Christ. The central, larger panel

for example While I pondered weak and weary. Next would be Simile, as in Suddenly there came a

Ethical Principles, Applied To The Use Of Professional Ethics Professional Ethics When ethical principles are applied to the use of professional ability to general situations, then Professional ethics takes its origin. Those who are working in acknowledged professions exercise specialist knowledge and skill. Academics attempting to understand business behavior employ descriptive methods. The range and quantity of business ethical issues reflects the interaction of profit maximizing behavior with non economic concerns. Interest in business ethics accelerated dramatically during the 1980s and 1990s, both within major corporations and within academia. For example, today most major corporations promote their commitment to non economic values under headings such as ethics codes and social responsibility charters. • 7. Ethical Hedonism In Robert Nozick s The Experience Machine Robert Nozick was a modern day American philosopher, who had a large variety of philosophical questions regarding the workings of the modern world (Feser), in 1974 Nozick finished work on his book which would give birth to the Experience Machine . In Anarchy, State, and Utopia (Nozick 1974), Nozick created the thought experiment The Experience Machine with which he attempts to challenge the idea of ethical hedonism (42). The Experience Machine is a thought experiment, in which a person is given the choice of entering a machine that would stimulate pleasure into a person s brain using a machine, and that the person could not distinguish the differences between the machine and reality, in some variations of the experiment, once a person enters the machine, that person cannot leave. (Nozick 1974, 42 43) According to Nozick, a person should choose not to enter the Experience Machine, Nozick expresses that it would be unethical to enter the Experience Machine due to none of those experiences, and the memories that come from them, being real, and that since they are all created in a man made reality, that they should hold no value to a person (43). Nozick s notion that one should choose not to enter the Experience Machine is correct, while it allows people to experience anything they ever wanted, a person should not enter the Experience Machine, because it creates a false sense of reality due to how people cannot differentiate the two, it doesn t allow people to do things ... • 8. Hong Kong With Our Newest Acquisition Yammer In conclusion I recommend we expand to Hong Kong with our newest acquisition Yammer. When we look at the financial health of the company and our current ratio is 2.50 meaning for every dollar the company owes it has $2.50 of assets, and the quick ratio is 2.44. These are huge and strong ratios and the main reason I know the company can expand its operations overseas with this new product. The tax situation is Hong Kong is very attractive to all types of companies. The rates here in the United States the company pays 27.1%, while in Hong Kong the tax rate is only 16%. This tax saving alone has the ability to increase profits. The company s debt is very low as indicated by the debt ratio of .48, so fir every .48 cents the company owns $1.00 worth of assets. The company currently generates .13cents in profit for every one dollar in profit. These ratios will go up with less of a tax burden. If we take the 16% tax and apply it to gross profits we show a nice increase in net profit and all the financial ratios go up respectively. This potential addition profit will benefit current and future shareholders with elevated dividends and more retained earnings which we can use to finance other operations or expand the operation that I am proposing. I feel we can expand this potential operation after only 2 years. I feel that time frame will allow us the opportunity to fine tune the Yammer product for the Pacific Rim, while still offering the existing product for transplants in this ... Mainly because the less developed countries were targeted for their resources. Resources, such as, agriculture, tourism, or a place to operate a strategic, military base. All this is just another way of saying that the developed nations were exploiting the developing nations through their people, products and resources both natural and manmade. All that this accomplished was to make the developing nations more wealthy and the developing nations were provided jobs but at the expense of people both local and rural and immigrants in search of jobs that led to over population, lack of housing and shortage of jobs. The civil rights movement was a very important part of American history. This movement made Black people equal to white people. Before the civil rights movement, black people were treated horribly and were not allowed to do things that white people could do. Judgement and harassment were a big part of the civil rights era because no one was treated equally. The Supreme Court effected the civil rights movement in a very positive way: Plessy v. Ferguson, Brown v. Board of education and Swann v. Charlotte Mecklenburg board of education. Plessy v. Ferguson was a case that stopped all public places to allow business to any black people. When the case was announced, immediately businesses took action and started to put up signed that read Whites Only and No Blacks. The town started to have segregated areas pop up everywhere. • 24. Role Of Chivalry In Beowulf The role of chivalry is a complicated concept for solitary heroes within Beowulf and Albrecht Dürer s Knight, Death, and the Devil. In Beowulf, the concept of chivalry is explained through the eyes of the hero, Beowulf, which is the idea of performing chivalrous actions in the face of death for glory; however, Beowulf does not realize that his actions will not keep his people safe in the end. In Knight, Death and the Devil, the idea of chivalry is the motivation of the knight on religious grounds to be chivalrous in the face of death. The Knight gives the impression that he understood that his actions would ultimately be meaningless, and he appears resigned to the idea. The argument can be made that chivalry is unsustainable in both texts, given that while it inspires these heroes to pursue these tasks, the result is that they believe that mild sacrifices, such as their own life, must be made to ensure victory; however, these two texts differ with their heroes anticipated outcomes of their sacrifices, which turns out to be for nothing. Despite having different outcomes of operating within a system of chivalry, these two texts similarly critique the outcomes of chivalry as being unsustainable based on the demands it places on heroes to sacrifice themselves. To defend this claim, I will begin by similarly critiquing how chivalry is unsustainable within both texts. I will then express how both texts show the unsustainability results from the demands of sacrifice. I will then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Gender Issues Faced By Women Union Membership Essay As women continue gaining equal representation within the workforce, it should be unsurprising that women also are steadily gaining ground within union membership. As women union membership increases, we would also expect women in roles of union leadership to also increase. This is an important metric to examine, as there are several gender specific work related issues that women would benefit from being prioritized. Women consistently see lower wages for the same work, fewer promotion opportunities, and the added stress of childcare responsibilities typically relegated to mothers. It is possible, therefore, that women look to union leadership to account for these needs. It is also then likely that these needs are more consistently prioritized by union leadership where women are adequately represented. There are many issues facing women today in the workplace. Nuclear Proliferation is defined as the rapid spread or increase of nuclear weapons. Nuclear Proliferation has been a conflict worldwide for years. It all started during the Cold War, when the Soviet Union and the United States competed to obtain more nuclear weapons. As the Cold War continued, France, Britain, and China all began to develop their own nuclear technology. On July 1, 1968, the Treaty on the Non Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons was signed and entered into force in 1970. A few years later, the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks non proliferation act (SALT 1) was signed on May 26, 1972 and entered into force on October 3, 1972. After several years of struggle, the Cold War ended in December 1991. 2.) What nations are directly involved in this issue? The nurse should be well rounded and possess enough knowledge to know not only the technical aspect of patient care, but also how to tend to the patients emotional needs. Kagan, Smith, Cowling Chinn (2009) say It can be argued that the overemphasized focus on technological and medical interventions rather than on services underpinned by caring practices and humanist nursing values puts the health of all humans at risk (p. 75). While medical interventions are necessary, the nurse is responsible for carrying out those interventions in a humane and caring way. If the focus is on the technical side of nursing, the patient as a person is easily forgotten. I believe that to truly care for a patient, the nurse must act as a patient advocate. In more recent times, the nurses role as a patient advocate is expanding and becoming more widely recognized. Influential authors have shown that nurse s role is to speak up for a patient when they are not able to speak up for themselves. Ann Hamric (as cited in Mahlin 2010, p. 248) says that a nurse s ... The punishment was to have an unstoppably heavy weight suppressed onto one s chest to represent the drive a person had to keep or carelessly spend their riches/possessions. In this ring Dante saw men of the clergy, including popes and cardinals. I would closely relate greed to gluttony because the overconsumption of food is basically being greedy and not sharing with others, even though these two are closely related, I still stand by with rearranging lust and gluttony because I feel greed is much worse. With Christianity, for the most part, everyone would go out of their way to help one another. I feel this is mostly among the poorer people because they would appreciate one another s efforts and open to sharing and trading what they could muster. As for people such as some kings, popes, and higher classes, since they had their riches, and far more positions, sharing was not on their agenda, again I m not saying all higher class people did this. • 43. What Is The Mood Of The Poem Mending Wall Why Walls? In the poem Mending Wall the author Robert Frost uses poetic elements to express the idea that barriers to communication, exchange of ideas and relationships should be questioned. By the use of particular form, rhythm and tone, his choice of words, and use of imagery and symbols the author uses a small poem to express a large idea. The poem is written in blank verse, which is unrimed iambic pentameter. According to the authors of Backpack Literature, X. J. Kennedy and Dana Gioia, Many writers, such as Robert Frost, feel iambs most easily capture the natural rhythms of our speech. (503) This is a good choice for this lyric poem in which the speaker seems to be sharing his observations with the reader as if they were friends. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The wall in the poem is a stone wall between the fields belonging to two neighbors. In the spring they work together to set the wall between us once again (14). The wall is a symbol for division, separation and barriers to friendship, communication and relationships. The author s use of the tactile image of we wear our fingers rough with handling them (20) shows how much effort is involved in maintaining walls. Maintaining distance between other people also requires effort. In the line He is all pine and I am apple orchard (24) the author uses the symbol of the two different types of trees to represent the two neighbors, and the difference between staying fixed behind a rigid wall and being willing to be open to new ideas, to allow the wall to come down. The neighbor s pines are a hard wood with prickly pine cones and needle shaped leaves that are unchanging as an evergreen. His ideas are also hard and unchanging. The speaker s trees are deciduous apple trees that provide nourishing food, sweet smelling flowers and change with the seasons like his openness to the idea of leaving the wall down. There is also a contrast between the speaker s fanciful description of the something that doesn t love a wall (35) as elves (36) and the image of the neighbor as an old stone savage ... • 44. Analysis Of Joachim Patinir s Triptych, The Penitence Of... Netherlandish use of triptychs three distinct art pieces that simultaneously exist as individual images and as a collective picture usually were presented as devotional images and altarpieces. Joachim Patinir s triptych, The Penitence of Saint Jerome (c. 1512 1515, Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY), employs both the same form of traditional triptychs and the Netherlandish tradition of extended panoramic landscapes; however, the triptych breaks traditional convention. The three separate panels share the same landscape which allows the figures to exist in the same pictorial space. This maintains an unbroken continuation of the landscape, which adds not only to the content within a single panel, but to the entire narrative of the triptych. Yet, each individual panel is also worthy of its own analysis and discussion. The left panel depicts the first of three saints, Saint John the Baptist, in the midst of his signature baptizing of Christ. A river flows from the furthest reaches of the landscape down to the bottom frame, with Christ standing thigh deep in the water, a dove alighting from God perched in the clouds in the top left. Saint John kneels over him on the riverbank while a group of people huddle in the distance behind the baptism scene. In traditional style, the triptych simultaneously depicts a central scene as well as past and future narrative events present here as Saint John preaching chronologically before the actual baptism of Christ. The central, larger panel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
