Helvetica is all around us and it s like oxygen, you have no choice but to take it in. . The appeal
for a clean, professional, and timeless typeface is undeniable. From Fortune 500 logos, to local
street signs, Helvetica holds the spot for most widely used font choice to designers and amateur
designers alike. What made Helveticaso popular and, why, over 50 years later, does it still retain
its popularity? Why does Helvetica work equally effective for both a letter of termination and on
the birth announcement of a child? Typography which is the arrangement and interaction of letters

The foundations of the International Typographic Style can be traced to two art schools, the Zurich
School of the Applied Arts and the School of Design in Basel, who taught a curriculum in which
form follows function.
The 1950s saw a boom of the International style when it was epitomized with the creation of
several new san serif type families. The geometric fonts on the 1920s and 30s was rejected in favor
of designs inspired by Akzidenz Grotesk fonts. Two fonts would soon take the world by storm. In
1954 a Swiss designer working in Paris by the name of Adrian Frutiger created a family of 21 san
serif fonts which he named, Univers. At the same time, back in Switzerland Edouard Hoffman of
the Haas type foundry in Switzerland felt that the Akzidenz Grtotesk fonts should be refined and
upgraded. Hoffman had been waiting for the right moment to release a new typeface and in 1956 he
contacted Max Miedinger, who had worked with him at Haas and had since branched out as a
freelance consultant and designer to help create the new typeface for Haas. Hamburgers. No, not
the food, the word. Miedinger began to create a new typeface by working out the letters in the
word, hamburgers, a word that includes all stylistic variations of letters. First working on pencil and
paper and then creating photographic reproductions Miedinger set out to create

The Between The Federal Government And The United States
The relationship between the federal government and the states has continually changed over the
years. Each one has their set of duties and powers, and both are ruled by the U.S. Constitution. The
states rights are more than well protected in the current constitution and the political practice. The
Bill of Rights lays out what our rights are, along with fourteenth, fifteenth, nineteenth, and twenty
six amendments. The amendments and constitution continue to protect our rights as Americans
even hundreds of years after being established. States have the ability to make restrictions The
Articles of Confederation gave Congress many powers; they could raise an army and a navy, make
war and peace, set up a postal system, and print money.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The farmers had the hardest time with the money shortage because they could not earn enough to
pay their taxes and debts. Shay led his followers to close down courthouses so that judges could
not take away their farms. The group went with weapons and because the Continental Army was
disbanded Congress could not stop them. Massachusetts eventually ended Shay s Rebellion,
sending militia troops to halt the protesting. Madison wrote to a friend. It is not possible that a
government can last long under these circumstances (Frey, 2004: 105). Congress, after dealing
with Shay s Rebellion called for a convention to come up with a solution to fix all the problems that
the Articles of Confederation was creating. When the Constitutional Convention began, the
delegates believed that the task at hand was to revise the Articles of Confederation. All the
delegates agreed to throw out the Articles of Confederation and write a new constitution. As the
delegates began to make a new framework a disagreement came up, where should the government
s power to rule come from? Some believed that the states should, others thought the people should
have the authority. The Articles of Confederation s answer was that states should have the powers
while Madison believed the power should rest with the people. This is how the Virginia and New

Northern Seven Years War Analysis
Though Denmark was deprived of the two local primary resources which possess direct
application in Baltic warfare, the state possessed the ability, as a result of the direct regnal revenue
obtained from the Г resund Sound Toll, to finance competent mercenary armies in their initial
conflicts against Sweden. This militaristic composition possessed the ubiquitous effects of a
predominantly mercenary based force: though the individuals soldiers were more adept than a
rallied militia, their activity was directly predicated by the immediate transaction of wealth, either
derived from success in combat, or at periods of prolonged activity at the expense of the proprietor.
Upon the initiation of the Northern Seven Years War, an efficient system and structure had
proactively been enacted by the militaristic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the Northern Seven Years War, the soldiers of Denmarkcontinuously demonstrated martial
superiority, though the financial sustenance required for the continuity of employment resulted in
inefficacy. Another difficulty presented to Denmark during the Northern Seven Years War was the
environmental inexperience and lack of adaptation displayed by the mercenaries. The composition
of the Danish mercenaries was primarily German, a culture which delivered mercenaries of both
physical and organizational advantage, though having not developed the skills required for boreal
warfare: the requisitioned Swedish peasantry were accustomed to operating weaponry in the
confines of forests and snow, while the mercenaries remained determined to retain the traditionalist

How Did Confucius Changed History
Confucius not only changed history by creating his philosophical doctrine, Confucianism, but he
influenced the education system in ancient China. As one of China s greatest philosophers,
Confucius was active, good natured person with a good sense of humor. During his time, many
people were born in to social stature and tended to stay in that level of social strata throughout their
lifetime. Confuciuswas born into neither peasant or high born status, a common man with high
goals would be the best way to describe him. Confucius developed a moral code that would
influence and serve as the foundation for official and political policy during the Han Dynasty. The
teachings of Confucius emphasized self enlightenment and personal responsibility... Show more

By the time Confucius was born his family was regulated to poverty. The Records of the Grand
Historian, compiled some four hundred years after Confucius time, indicate that Confucius was
conceived out of wedlock. His father was seventy, and his mother only fifteen at his birth. His
father had been a magistrate and a warrior, but his father died after his third birthday and he was
raised predominately by his mother, Yan Zhengzai. His mother became his mentor and teacher
until his teens where he was recognized for his tireless dedication to learning and observation.
By the age of 15 he was totally heart set on learning. He was recognized as an intelligent,
insightful young scholar through his relentless questioning of social policy of the time.
Confucius s notoriety gained him notice with local government officials. As a young man, he
was a minor administrative manager in the State of Lu and may have risen to the position of
justice minister. He was hired to manage government stables and grain storage facilities. After
working for several years as a book keeper, cowherd and a clerk he resigned because he

Horace s Adversity
Horace states, Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would
have lain dormant, meaning that differences in a person s life, meaning misfortunes as a whole,
has the ability to change a person s personality and character. This can go two separate ways
though, it can make them into a better person, or a worse person. But the overall idea that Horace
stated is easy to agree with.
Some people will use a negative part of their life, and do their best to make it into a way to benefit
their life. For example, a youtube sensation has gone viral for a vlog he made when he went to
Japan and made a joke about a body he discovered in the Suicide Forest. He gained so many
followers and subscribers after this incident

Rick Deckard Symbolism
In his novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Philip K. Dick criticizes American mass
consumerism by commodifying human existence. Precisely, Dick characterizes Rick Deckard
and his wife, Iran, as individuals who rely on the mood organ and the ownership of animals to
define their lives. It is evident that Deckard and his wife exemplify the archetypal consumer s
inability to individualize when these characters experiences are determined by the mood setting to
which they dial in their mood organ (Dick 6). The mood organ is thus symbolic of the characters
inability to experience emotions independently. As an object of self expression, the mood organ
evokes a criticism of mass consumerism, where the ownership of an item is a declaration of one s
identity and placement within a social hierarchy. Here, Deckard and Iran s identities are predicated
on their mood organs. Essentially, Dick commodifies human existence by having the... Show more

This inequality emphasizes the notion that the individual s worth is dependent on extrinsic
factors. Furthermore, to Deckard, owning an animal is comparable to displaying a trophy in
which he shelters his own pride and self worth. For instance, when Deckard purchases the goat,
he does so to get [his] confidence, [his] faith in [him]self and [his] abilities, back since owning an
electric animal sapped [his] morale (Dick 170). Deckard s perspective is similar to the mass
consumerist behaviour present among Americans, wherein the act of consumption instills a sense
of importance. Specifically, to Deckard, it is confidence, a faith in his abilities, and his morale.
Dick uses Deckard s pursuit of an animal and the mood organ to explore the commodification of
human existence in a consumerist society. In doing so, Dick criticizes mass consumerism on the
basis that it artificializes an individual s

Alexander Calder Research Paper
Paper 4
In the course of this paper I will be analyzing Alexander Calder s work through the
Psychoanalysis approach, specifically Psychobiography as I discuss the many influences
throughout his life, both people and experiences, which informed his prolific body of work, in
addition to it being a direct reflection of his personality. As a third generation artist, Alexander
Calder grew up surrounded by art. Calder s mother was a painter and his father and grandfather
were sculptors, and as a small child his parents ensured that he always had space and tools for his
own artistic experimentation. Alexander Milne Calder, his grandfather, created historically based,
monumental sized works such as the statue of William Penn seen on the ... Show more content on

Piet Mondrian was the source of Calder s turning toward total abstraction. After a visit to his
studio Calder was struck by the walls that were like huge versions of Mondrian s paintings. He
wanted to use those same concepts of abstract colors but to also set them in motion. He was
inspired by Henri Matisse s paintings of flat abstract figures and that direct influence can be seen
in pieces such as Hats Off. The process of Matisse s cut paper collages is also similar to Calder s
cut sheets of metal. His friendship with Joan Miro is evidenced in his sculptures, through the often
organic, brightly colored shapes that contrast with the sharp geometric architecture of the buildings
surrounding them. Miro s influence is also seen in the subject matter that is used repeatedly;
heavily abstracted and biomorphic animal forms, often showing up specifically in bird like forms:
Flamingo, Big Bird, and Eagle, although Calder used other animalistic forms as well, including
Cheval Rouge, (Red Horse) and even Le tamanoir (The

Analysis Of Isabella Whitney s I. W. To Her Unconstant Lover
In Isabella Whitney s I.W. To Her Unconstant Lover, she adopted a female persona that attempted
to rework the notion of constancy, or faithfulness, in failed male female relationships of the
Elizabethan era. Where women are often accused of being unfaithful, the speaker of the epistle
writes to her unfaithful male lover and holds him accountable for their failed relationship. By
analyzing Whitney s I.W. To Her Unconstant Lover, this paper will argue that Whitney s persona,
I.W., challenges the misogynistic conception of female faithfulness because she uses rhetorical
devices like metaphors and allusions to shift the blame onto dishonest male lovers, whose
actions have a negative impact on the constancy of virtuous women. The speaker s use of
metaphors and Greek allusions fundamentally allows her to rework the idea of female
inconstancy, which, in turn, absolves her of fault for being abandoned by her ex lover and
presents her as an intelligent and virtuous woman to her English audience. With the speaker s use
of metaphors and Greek allusions, the idea of constancy in failed relationships is reworked to
combat the misogynistic conception of female inconstancy. In Joan Kelly s Early Feminist Theory
and the Querelle des Femmes, 1400 1789, she claims that female querelle writers reject[ed] the
distorted image of women (Kelly 20) in religious texts and amatory poetry because women were
often depicted as capricious creatures that men could not trust to be

Drug War in Mexico Essay
Mexico s Drug War
Drug trafficking has become an increasingly growing problem in the world today. Illegal drug
trade is a worldwide black market consisting of production, distribution, packaging, and sale of
illegal substances. Although today s War on Drugs is a modern phenomenon, drug problems have
been a common problem throughout history. The market for illegal drugs is massive, when we
consider the estimated global drug trade value is worth $321 billion (Vulliamy). The most drug
trafficking happens on the border between Mexico and the United States. Former Mexican
President Felipe Calderon said, Our neighbor is the largest consumer of drugs in the world. And

The government has made some gains, but at a heavy price. A total of 34,612 people have died
in drug related killings in Mexico in the first four years (Siddique). Most of these killing are
between cartel rivals fighting for the control of territories. There are five cartels operating in
Mexico: the Sinaloa, the Gulf, Juarez, Tijuana, the Zetas. The major cartels are the Gulf, Sinaloa
and Juarez (Cook 21). Many of these cartels have joined together forming powerful alliances known
as the Federation (Cook 17). The cartels work together, but they remain independent organizations.
Mexican Cartels are luring youngsters as young as 11 to work in their smuggling operations,
attracting them with what appears to be easy money for doing simple tasks. Cartels recruit
children, who are less likely to be suspects than adults and are easily manipulated by small sums
of money, and face less severe penalties than adults. Kids are asked to smuggle drugs, people and
weapons through the border. Steven McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety
says, They are U.S. citizens who speak Spanish and blends perfectly in the other side of the border.
There is not a concrete solution to dismantle the drug cartels. The United States has worked along
with Mexico to fight and win the battle against the powerful drug cartels. They need to attack and
stop the source of power. That source is the money. To stop the flow of money, the demand for
drugs has to be stopped. Once the

Database Management Systems And Databases
Abstract:
NoSQL Databases also referred as Not only SQL databases. These NoSQL database have these
days gained much attention and reputation because of their performance and high scalability. The
advantage of NoSQL database is to store efficiently unstructured data. These days use of e
commerce websites, social networking sites etc. has been increased. These usage made to create
the need to store the large data. Some companies have adopted NoSQL databases, as their data is
growing. Dynamo, Big table, Voldemort, Cassandra are the NoSQL databases that are used by
Amazon, Google, and LinkedIn and Facebook respectively. Facing these huge data has become
challenging for Relational Database Management Systems. Hence NoSQL database came into
existence. Mostly Relational Database Management System satisfies ACID properties, through
NoSQL database we can achieve high level of Scalability and performance. As a lot of sensitive
data is stored in NoSQL databases security issues becomes growing concerns. This Paper explains
about overview of NoSQL databases like Cassandra, mongo dB and their security features.
Introduction:
Database Management Systems has some basic requirements. They are confidentiality, integrity and
Availability. Availability means the stored data should be available when needed. These data should
be available only to the authorized entities called as Confidentiality. If that data is modified by the
authorized entities it is called as integrity. The traditional

Tobacco Free Policy Essay
Unquestionably, there is a problem in the US Army with drafting and implementing strong
tobacco policies at the local level. Currently, US Army installations draft polices that do not
comply with federal law and Department of Defense (DoD) regulations. There is a lack of
consistency and enforcement in tobacco policies across commands (Jahnke et al., 2011). The
Department of Defense has an opportunity to standardize a strong tobacco free policy that can be
implemented at the local level to combat the rate of tobacco use for overall health and physical
readiness within the force.
Presently, in the Army 17% of Soldiers were classified as not medically ready for deployment and
32% of Soldiers reported tobacco use (Bell et al., 2015). The prevalence of tobacco use in the
military and especially in the US Army is an enormous health care burden. Unfortunately, tobacco
use in the military is pervasive and current federal law for tobacco in federal workplaces
(Executive Order 13058) and DoD regulations (AR 600 63) are not being implemented or
enforced. Tobacco use still continues to be a cultural norm even though Soldiers are required to
meet physical health standards (medical readiness). Prevalence of cardiovascular disease/COPD is
high within the U.S. Army population and can be linked to tobacco use. ... Show more content on

reducing the rates of tobacco use across the entire US Army population. The policy would reach a
much larger target audience to include veterans who visit the medical facilities on

The Four Stages Of The Cell Cycle
The cell cycle has four main stages. The cell cycle is the regular pattern of growth. The four
stages consist of Gap 1 (G1), Synthesis (S), Gap 2 (G2), and Mitosis (M). Gap 1, consists of a cell
that carries its normal functions. Calls also increase in size, and the organelles increase in number.
A cellwill spend the most time in this phase. But it also depends on the cell type to see how long
it will spend in this phase. During this phase the cell has to pass a critical checkpoint before it
can continue into the (S) stage, also called the Synthesis stage. It would be dangerous for a cell
to keep dividing if the certain conditions were not met. The cells in this stage also need signals
from the other cells to tell the if division is needed. Now the next stage is the Synthesis stage.
During this phase the cell makes a copy of it s nuclear DNA. By the end of the (S) phase DNA
appears grainy in photos and the cell nucleus contains two complete sets of DNA. Gap 2, is the
third stage of the cell cycle. The cells continue doing there thing and more growth occurs. This
phase is like the checkpoint, everything in the cell has to be going right for the cell to be able to
enter mitosis. Mitosis is the fourth stage of the cell cycle. It includes two phases mitosis and
cytokinesis. Mitosis is the division of the cell s nucleus and all it s contents. Cytokinesis is the
process that divides the cell s cytoplasm. The stages of the cell cycle and the proteins are all alike

An Example Of Autobiographical Sketch Of A Teenage Life
Autobiographical Sketch
I like to think my life is a rather typical teenage life, however, there are many things about me that
are rather interesting. At a very young age, I was adopted by my parents, Mark and Karen. Ever
since then I have been raised on a farm along with my older sister, Bailey. I have gone to and
been raised up in a small church in Jeffersonville, Indiana known as Northside Church of Christ.
Every Sunday and Wednesday my family and I go to church. The family and friends I have
made growing up in the church are unbelievable. I have made lifelong friendships through my
youth group which is known as The Network. My church and the friends I have made from there
have made me into the person I am today. I have a passion for serving others and putting people
before myself. I am someone who loves people and loves doing what I can to help out in others
lives. I enjoy being able to brighten peoples days and just show kindness and compassion. It s a
passion of mine to help others and serve. I have been involved in a total of four mission trips that
have been organized through my church along with other service projects. Two of the mission trips
I have been to the Dominican Republic and the other two have been to South Carolina. One of the

Rheumatoid Arthritis And Its Effects On The Human Body
Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease in which your joints are very sore and ache multiple times of the
day. This disease is in the autoimmune system because the immune system mistakenly attacks
your own body tissue and results in these pains. It ordinarily affects the small joints of your hands
and feet. The lining of these joints is attacked and causes painful swelling. It also affects other
organs such as your skin, eyes, lungs, and blood vessels. If not treated correctly it is known to
cause bonedeformity. Rheumatoid arthritisis predominantly more common in women and generally
begins around age 40. A symptom of this autoimmune system disease includes tender and warm,
swollen joints, usually in the smaller joints of your body.

Evaluation Of The Testing Techniques
4.3 Evaluation of the Testing Techniques
4.3.1 Hypothesis
According to Wetcher Hendricks (2014), the basic principle of hypothesis testing is to make an
assumption for the overall characteristics, and then making a judgment about the original
hypothesis should be accepted or not, which is based on the statistical inference. Based on the
research objective, the general idea of hypothesis testing for PPP started from the null hypothesis,
which was expressed as having a unit root. Next, performing t test, meanwhile, comparing the value
of t statistic with test critical values under the selected confidence interval. When the value of t
statistic was larger than the critical value, the null hypothesis would not be rejected, meaning the
existence of the unit root. If the t statistic value was smaller than the critical value, one rejected the
null hypothesis, which implies that the financial time series is stationary.
4.3.2 Unit Root Test
The Unit Root Test, also named Augmented Dickey Fuller Test (ADF Test), is put forward
according to whether the macroeconomic datum or financial datum has some special
characteristics, which is a particular method to test stationarity of the financial time series (Choi,
2015). To put it simply, testing the unit root is to examine whether there will be a unit root in the
analysis of time series or not. The financial time series would be considered as non stationarity if
the unit root exists, which is likely to result in spurious regressions. Due

Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray...
Of all the qualities in a hero, the ones that make helping a heroic act are honesty, wisdom,
dedication and conviction, which John from Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher and Clarisse from
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury portray. John and Clarisse are both honest about everything no
matter what anyone says or thinks. They also take the wisdom they gain from their experiences,
and use it to create a positive impact on those that they are helping. The level of dedication that
John shows is one side of a pole while Clarisse s level of dedication is on the other. Clarisse puts
more conviction into changing perspective, since she does this just by staying true to her opinion.

controversial. Charles Darwin dismantled theories of Creationism with his discoveries in
evolutionary biology. President Harry Truman single handedly ended World War
II by authorizing the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, killing thousands upon
thousands of civilians. Gangster John Dillinger stole from banks all across the U.S. Midwest in
the midst of the Great Depression and was heralded by some as a modern day Robin Hood. All of
these figures share a common characteristic concerning their heroic lore: the controversy ... Show

Even after the public saw them as disturbances to the peace of the city and the government had
banned them, Rorschach continued to serve justice. Heroes will work tirelessly to improve the
greater good even when it comes at a deadly cost to those that stand in their way. To eradicate the
world of evil and corruption is heroic, even when it jeopardizes one s well being and legacy. It is
his moral absolutism that makes Rorschach the purest hero of all the Watchmen.
To fully understand Rorschach, it is imperative to analyze the event that turned him into the
fighting vigilante that he became. During the early hours of March 13, 1964, Kitty Genovese was
returning from her job at a bar when she ran into a killer on the street a mere 100 feet from her
apartment. She was repeatedly stabbed as she yelled out to her neighbors for help; but among the
thirty eight witnesses that heard the commotion and watched the scene from their windows, not
one called the police. Kitty Genovese died from her injuries and the murder has since been
thoroughly studied in social psychology. Her extraordinary case forced the bystander effect into the
academic journals and studies of psychologists. How could there be thirty eight witnesses to this
brutal murder and not one of them informed the police? The bystander effect states that, in stressful
situations, individuals are less likely to offer aid when there are other

Examples Of Inequities In Aboriginal Health
As health professionals, we must look beyond individual attributes of Indigenous Australians to
gain a greater understanding and a possible explanation of why there are such high rates of ill
health issues such as alcoholism, depression, abuse, shorter life expectancy and higher prevalence
of diseases including diabetes, heart disease and obesity in our indigenous population. Looking at
just the individual aspects and the biomedical health model, we don t get the context of Aboriginal
health. This is why we need to explore in further detail what events could have created such
inequities in Aboriginal health. Other details that we should consider are the historical and cultural
factors such as, terra nullius , dispossession and social... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was this day that was the start of a long dark history of cruelty and ill treatment towards the
traditional custodians of Australia.
Under the terra nullius law, the Aboriginals lost their land, which is now known as dispossession.
To justify this dispossession, the English followed the set of beliefs that are now identified as
social Darwinism. Social Darwinism, with its powerful racially based doctrines, ranked Indigenous
Australians as inferior to Europeans and provided a rationale for dispossession by drawing on the
laws of natural selection to justify the inevitable extinction of Indigenous Australians in the face of
the arrival of the superior white race (Psychology and Indigenous Australians, Foundations of
Cultural Competence, 2009, pp. 75). By having their land taken away from them, the Aboriginals
lost part of their spiritual connection and their sense of belonging and identity because Aboriginal
culture is based heavily on the spirits of the land. These connections that bonded the Aboriginals
to the land were never understood by the English settlers, who only saw the land as possible
income (Psychology and Indigenous Australians, Foundations of Cultural Competence, 2009.).
They also lost a lot of their sacred areas, spiritual areas and meeting places because they were on
the land that the white people had divided and fenced of the land that these areas were on and if an

External audit plays a significant part in the assessment of the performance in a firm, Hye et al
(2015) had used the audit fees to represent the audit risk of the company, which would be a useful
indicator on audit quality. The audit fees for these 165 firms could be collected from FAME
directly. Due to the reason that the amount of total audit fees in a company are extremely huge, this
research would use the natural logarithm of total audit fees, which would be more convenient to
calculate and to compare with other companies and variables. In addition, a plenty of literatures,
such as Zaman et al (2011) and Boo and Sharma (2008) also use natural logarithm to calculate the
total audit fees.
3.2 Independent variables:
3.2.1 Proportion of non executive director (NED):
Non executive directors are independent of management in a firm, they play an important role in
the supervision works. They need to obtain the independent information about the management and
control of the directors in the company, thus they would require the external auditors to provide
the financial information they needed. Peel and Clatworthy (2011) also use the EDBS (ratio of
non executive directors to total directors) as independent variable. The proportion of non executive
director for these 165 firms could be calculated by the number of non executive directors divided
by the total number of directors. Moreover, both of

On 7th December 2014 I undertook an 11 week internship in Cambodia with the Jesuit Refugee
Service. The internship was arranged through Macquarie University s Participation and Community
Engagement (PACE) program, and undertaken for academic credit as part of the Bachelor of Laws
study program.
Australian Volunteers International (AVI) partnered with PACE to offer logistical assistance and
student training. Pre and post departure training involved modules such as working ethically in
developing countries, building cultural sensitivity, and developing self care practices. In country
training modules included Cambodia s history, current political and social movements, and law and
governance in Cambodia. Weekly Khmer language lessons were also undertaken while in
Cambodia.
The internship was offered to twelve law students who demonstrated academic competency and a
broad range of personal attributes including interpersonal and communication skills, commitment to
teamwork, cultural sensitivity, leadership, personal drive and motivation. The internship was
predominately based in Phnom Penh, and involved travel to Siam Reap, Battambang, and
Ratanakiri provinces.

President Islam Karimov Left His Country
Uzbekistani President Islam Karimov left his country as he ruled it: plagued by inconsistencies in
news reports, government cover ups, and incorrigible deceit. While Karimov reportedly died on
September 2nd at the age of 78 due to a brain hemorrhage, he likely passed away well before his
government s official announcement. The full extent of Karimov s critical condition was not
revealed to the media until his daughter, Lola Karimova Tillyaeva, announced it on her Instagram
profile. Then, after days of speculation, the Uzbek government finally confirmed that Karimov had
passed away. Following a few hours of leadership contention, Nigmatilla Yuldashev, the chairman of
the upper house of Parliament and next in the line of presidential succession, stepped aside to allow
long time Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyevto become the interim leader.
The government s postponement of broadcasting Karimov s death may raise eyebrows, but rather it
sheds light on the fears of the regime. Considering that in its 25 years of existence, Uzbekistan has
never held democratic elections and that nearly half of the country s 32 million citizens have only
lived under Karimov, such a delay in announcing the Uzbekistani leader s death signifies that the
regime is concerned about maintaining the status quo. Unfortunately for its citizens, its neighbors
in Central Asia, and leaders around the world, Uzbekistan s status quo is malicious, progressively
inert and undeniably criminal. Though it has been

There is no culture in the history of mankind that did not ever use some kind (kinds) of drugs.
Despite the well known consequences of drug addiction, millions of people constantly consume

become one of the most threatening factors of social risk, resulting in increasing rates of
mortality, aggressive and criminal behavior, and dissolution of social ties. This paper is devoted

They also identify a latent function that is associated with making a drug legal or illegal. To
make a drug illegal is to strengthen the agencies that have been established to control them. The
moral entrepreneur has a lot of power and money to make drugs legal or illegal, whatever is in
their best interest. Conflict theorist emphasize how drugs are used as a political tool. They decide
whether a drug is criminalized or not. The conflict theorists used the laws against the Chinese
immigrants in the 1800 s.
Continuous use of a certain drug results in the need to consume higher doses in order to achieve
the same effect and by negative and painfully felt effects of sudden withdrawal of the drug. The
drug not only acts as a reinforcer, but sets the stage for the development of the motivation to obtain
the drug. (Timmons Hamilton). When this motivation develops, it becomes ...the major focus of a

Alcohol and its effects Essay
Alcohol is a large part of American culture. All over the United States drinking is not only
acceptable but a social norm from teenagers to adults. This is not only the case in the U.S., but
all over the world, where some drinking ages are 18 and 19 years of age. In America specifically,
alcohol has been around for centuries and is a large part of many social gatherings. Although this
is the case now, in the early 1900 s during the prohibition period, all alcoholwas banned and deemed
illegal to possess. Even though illegal, the task was just too heavyand alcohol was too much a
common practice for most Americans. As time went on the prohibition period ended and the laws

With all these diseases related to alcohol, there are many mental health problems associated with
drinking as well. These problems include unipolar depression, epilepsy and other
neuropsychological disorders (Rehm 1216 1217). Though drinking itself seems harmless and fun,
many of the diseases and problems linked to alcohol are very detrimental and long term.
Along with the negative health effects, teenagers are beginning to drink earlier and it is affecting
them in big ways. The perception of alcohol is greatly blurred when it comes to teenagers.
Commercials and the media glorify alcohol, almost putting it on a pedestal. Teenagers are exposed
to it on an almost daily basis and they in turn are starting to drink during their early teen years. With
many developmental changes occurring in adolescence, the thought of alcohol abuse can be
alarming. Despite the possible negative affects, there is very little study done on the subject
(Arna 1). Adolescent health and alcohol use is not thoroughly researched, despite being a large
problem. The reason for lack of evidence on the subject is that the problem is so widespread and
there are not many adolescents that will admit to drinking, or even ask their doctor what affects
alcohol has on them. With that being said, the little experimental evidence of the effects of
adolescent alcohol use gives an idea of the problem at hand. Kids who drink in

Hitler Appeasement Research Paper
Appeasement was thought to be a way of keeping Germany at bay, however, it was proven to be
an ineffective policy as subsequently, war broke out in 1939. Appeasement was a major
contributor to World War 2 as it allowed Hitler to build his military power until it was strong
enough to fight a world scale war. In addition, appeasement emboldened Germany, as the allies
never wanted to succumb to yet another war. Hitler was aware that the appeasement policy was a
massive compromise to Hitler, and in someways a plead not to begin another war. Hitler used this
leverage to his advantage, taking steps that eventually led to the most devastating war of our time.

The social distress saw many protests, fights and rallies in the mid to late 30 s. An anarchist
government was also formed at one stage. Franco saw Nazi Germany as a superpower awaiting to
flex its muscles and wanted the Germans on their side. Using many tactics seen by Mussolini and
Hitler, Franco empowered the nation by simmering the large divide within the country. His fascist
ideology made him come across as a nationalistic and empowering leader, much like the other two
Fascist governments residing in Europe. The Spanish Civil War of 1936 1939 was an armed
conflict between left wing Republicans and far right Fascist Nationalists, led by Francisco Franco.
The Republicans were in alliance with the Anarchists, Communists and Second Spanish Republic
while the Nationalists had the support of the Falangist, Carlist Catholic s, all led by Franco. Franco
was fighting for the overthrowing of the left wing government, the Second Spanish Republic and
the establishment of a military dictatorship. The war is commonly referred a fight between
democracy and fascism. In September of 1936, an intervention pact was signed by 27 countries.
This pact meant that once signed, none of these countries will provide any assistance to either side.
Among the 27 countries were Britain, France, the Soviet Union, Germany and Italy. However soon
after the pact, many of these countries began to provide an international element to the war. The
Communist Soviets provided military assistance to the Republicans, along with Mexico. The
Nationalists also had the assistance of international countries, the biggest being Nazi Germany and
Fascist Italy. The war ended in a Nationalist victory. Franco established a Fascist Militaristic

Abnormal Factors And The Prevalence Of Dm And Hypertension
In our study as regards presence of co morbid factors namely DM and hypertension, the
prevalence of DM and hypertension was higher in PVT group than non PVT group, these results
match the findings reported by Martinelli et al. (13) who clarified that hypertension and DM were
associated with increased risk of PVT. That finding may be attributed to the association of
dyslipidemia with diabetes and increased risk of atherosclerosis, so patients with livercirrhosisand
associated diabetes or hypertension carry the risk for PVT more than cirrhotic patients without them.
The number of patients who were smokers and users of contraceptive pills were also statistically
higher in PVT group than non PVT group indicating that these factors may increase the risk for
PVT development in cirrhotic patients which goes in agreement with Shetty and Ghosh study (14).
These results may be attributed to the hypercoagulability caused by hormonal pills and increased
risk of atherosclerosis with smoking.
Risk factors:
PVT in patients with liver disease is the result of concomitant local and systemic thrombophilic
factors (15). In current study as shown in table (II) malignancy specially (HCC) was the most
common local risk factor for PVT followed by abdominal infection specially SBP then abdominal
intervention especially splenectomy. Similar results were also reported by other studies as Sogaard
et al.(6) in which abdominal inflammation especially pancreatitis was the most common risk factor

If it does decide carefully, for the outcome is yours to deal with. Each individual person has their
own set of ethics. This set of moral principals can vary radically, depending on the subject,
circumstance, or even upbringing. On any given day an individuals morals can change
depending on the happenings of that day or previous days. One tiny event may have such a
large impact on an individual that they may choose to rethink their whole ethical system. The
ethics you determine are yours and yours alone. You do not need a book explaining why you
feel the way you do. Each individual has suffered through different hardships and has breezed
through different high periods in their life. Ethics build as a person ages and experiences more.
The more you have seen and witnessed, the more able you are to draw conclusions as to whether
you have a point of view on that particular subject. In addition to individual and personal codes of
ethics, each person also has their own method of making decisions. Hypothetically speaking, a

Literary Terms For The End
Literary Terms for In the End Linkin Park s In the End is a song that many people can relate to
because it is about a situation that everyone has encountered. The approach Chester uses to
describe a hard situation by using the structure, symbolism and prosody he specifically picks out
makes the song catchy and relatable. The way he forms the song and the words he picked out
allows a depressing moment to become an inspiration for anyone going through hard times. The
most important literary term is structure, this is the beginning layout of the poem, story or song.
This is how the poem is organized it is where the author decides how the story is to begin, the
details that are going to keep the reader intrigued, the crisis and the climax and the way the poem
is to end, the resolution. Even in the song In the End there is an outline of how it begins and
ends. Right away the author shows that there is a major complication, he has worked hard at
reaching a goal or helping a person and has failed. Then further down in the lyrics he shows the
crisis, where all of the reasons are starting to build up as to why he has decided not to stay with
the other character in the song, he sings reasons like when you were mocking me, acting like I
was your property and fighting all the time. He even sings about everything has changed and there
is no way to bring it back. He then lines it up with when the chorus hits; we see the resolution of the
song. This part shows the realization that

Student Athletes Have A Very Busy Schedule

Time to Work
Division 1 student athletes have a very busy schedule. To be a Division 1 student athlete you must
have great time management skills, determination, and be focused. For them to be successful in the
classroom and in their sport, they have a very tough decision. They must pick two of the three:
social life, academics, or athletics. They must also realize that they need to make the decision
before they make a mistake for instance, becoming ineligible. Student athletes have many options
for help, just as a average college student does. Student athletes need to have more readily available
resources but also use their time wisely through counseling as freshman.
The Problem
Some people who have never participated in extracurricular activities may ask, What is so different
between a student athlete s day compared to an average college student s. According to Richard
Sherman, a former Stanford University student athlete and now professional football player, student
athletes have mandatory lifting in the morning, meetings, and practices throughout the day during
the season (Richard Sherman Student Athlete Education 00:01:14 00:01:26). An average college
student doesn t have this time commitment. They may be involved in many organizations but the
organizations don t meet every day, which is a big difference between the two schedules. A study

Rather than solely online companies, who may only offer ghost storefronts with no inventory
and little reputation to defend. (Pitta, Franzak Fowler 2006) Value creation has been described
as the difference between the amount that the consumer is willing to pay for a product and the
costs of providing the product. Value can also be added to the product through outside or
support (Porter, 1985) activities such as brand awareness, speed of delivery, after sales service.
Resource Based View (RBV) theorists argue that information technology (IT) resources can be

Symbolism In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying
There are many symbols in As I Lay Dying. William Faulkner is known for symbols in his novels.
The character s names in this novel even have a meaning. Although they are hard to decipher, once
the symbol is revealed, it makes the novel much more interesting. Throughout the novel, we see that
almost every person s name in the Bundren family has a meaning, and every person has a symbol.
The last name has a meaning itself. Bundren sounds like burden, and that is exactly what the
family is to almost everyone. Starting with Anse, Faulkner uses his name to define the word
anserous . Anserous means resembling a goose; silly; simple. In Addie s chapter, she describes
him as a tall bird hunched in the cold weather (pg. 170). This explains Anse s goose like stature. His
symbol throughout the novelis self greed. Anse states after Addie s death, But now I can get them
teeth (pg. 111). This just proves how selfish he is and does not care about his wife s passing,
only about his new teeth. Addie s name is very simple and does not have a meaning, but her
symbol is deep. She is always looking out of the window at her coffin being built while she is
lying in her bed. I believe Faulkner was showing how badly Addie wants to go to the other side.
Faulkner uses powerful imagery, It was nigh toward daybreak when we drove the last nail and
toted it into the house, where she was laying on the bed with the window open and the rain
blowing on her again (pg. 73). This shows how sad Addie is

Political And Cultural Beliefs In Ancient Egypt
Kings or Pharaohs ruled ancient Egypt between 3100 B.C. and 332 B.C. The Egyptians believed
that each ruler was the powerful god Horus, son of the sun god RE in a human body, they thought
that the king controlled everything I ancient Egypt, including the sun and the Nile river. He
controlled the temples the army the economy and trade. He oversaw all government officials. the
king owned most of the land in Egypt. Egypt has operated under several constitutions, both as a
monarchy and after 1952 as a republic. The first and most liberal of these was the 1923 constitution
which was promulgated just after Britain declared Egypt s independence. That document laid the
political and cultural groundwork for modern Egypt declaring it an independent sovereign Islamic
state with Arabic as its language. The ancient Egyptiansbelieved in many different gods and
goddesses each controlling a different part of everyday life. The god khepri appeared as a dung
beetle each day and slowly rolled the sun across the sky. Because gods could interfere in people s
lives the ancient Egyptians prayed to them and gave them gifts to keep them happy. Egyptian
religious beliefs and practices were closely integrated into Egyptian society of the historical period.
Although there were probably many survivals from prehistory these may be relatively unimportant
for understanding later times because the transformation that established the Egyptian state created
a new context for religion. Ancient Egyptians

The Past In George Orwell s Animal Farm
The past doesn t define who we are now and who we will become in the future. It is simply a
guide in our lives that show us what is right from wrong. Our history has the ability to teach us
more than we know, for it holds the key to something that has never been discovered. George
Orwell s masterpiece, Animal Farm, replicates a moment in history that will never be forgotten.
It is a story that shows courage and tenacity, as well as fear and tragedy. This book displays many
important lessons and morals. There are quotes that pertain to this story in a way like no other.
They uncover the meaning to what is behind, Animal Farm. Those who cannot remember the
past are condemned to repeat it. George Santayana This quote from Santayana shows how
valuable it is to relive in the moments before your time. If you are unable to recall what
happened in the past, there is a great chance that the mistakes and flaws that were made then are
going to be made again. In the book, the animals contemplate about what world they are currently
living in, compared to what life was like when Mr. Jones had owned the farm. They wondered if
life was better now that they had control. In the text it states, Sometimes the older ones among
them racked their dim memories and tried to determine whether in the early days of the Rebellion,
when Jones s expulsion was still recent, things had been better or worse than now. They could not

Mercury s Orbit
In 265 b.c the first discovery of Mercury was made by Timocharis of Alexandria. Timocharis was
a Greek astronomer and philosopher. However little was known of him, like whether or not he

son of Jupiter and Maia. Jupiter was the god of light and sky, he was the protector of the state and
its laws. Maia was the goddess of spring, she healed the earth and helped it grow.
Mercury has nearly no atmosphere, Mercury does however have an exosphere. An exosphere is a

One Mercury year is only about 88 days on Earth. A powerful feature of Mercury is its orbit it is
one of the fastest orbiting planets compared the rest in our solar system. Out of all the planets
orbits, Mercury s orbit is the least circular. Mercury s orbit is not circular because Mercury s the
closet orbital distance to the Sun rather than being larger when contrasted with that of the other
planets it is wider. Along with other planets, Mercury s surface experiences a wider range of
extreme temperatures than any other planet in the Solar System, that we know of. It is very simple
to explain, Mercury s surface is much hotter than any other planet, due to the direct heat for part
of the day. Conveniently, the temperatures of other planets remain relatively stable because their
atmospheres being virtually the same. Over time the orbit of Mercury shifts slightly around the
Sun, this process is known as precession. This was a constant problem for astronomers in the late
nineteen hundreds and early twenty hundreds. Many theories were presented to show the
difference between the actual and fictional ideas. One idea even suggested the idea of a
unknown planet closer to the Sun than Mercury had been. The truth was eventually proven
when Einstein published his great theory, that there was another planet before Mercury, but he
had no real proof of its existence. As a result of this theory, Mercury s orbit idea was finally
described exactly how it was. Though it had been believed for a long time that Mercury s spin
orbit was not correct, it was discovered in the mid twenty hundreds that it is, in fact, correct.
This idea produced what would soon be a great discovery for a satellite that the planet does indeed
orbit. Mercury s orbit takes the small planet as close as 29 million miles and as far as 43 million
miles from the sun. If one

staggering 45.8% of African American children live in poverty (The State of Working America).
As we discussed throughout this semester, socio economic class reproduces itself. Meaning,
unless these children grow up to accomplish at least one of the four steps of the Success
Sequence: graduate from High School, complete at least some college, get a full time job, and
wait to have children until after marriage. They have a 75% chance of remaining in poverty
(Strong). Successful completion of all four steps and the likelihood of that same person living in
poverty drops to just 2% no matter what race they are. It is no coincidence that the first two steps
of trying to get or stay out of poverty involve education. Educating and informing the public about
these issues pertaining to their community was the sole purpose of this

Psychodynamic Theories Of Psychology On The Subconscious Self
Psychodynamic theories of psychology focuses on the subconscious self, influencing behaviors of
an individual and are used to explain the development of mental illness and abnormalities. The
basis of psychodynamics is Sigmund Freud s theory in which he describes three states of mind
vying for their preferred goal: the Id concerned with obtaining pleasure, the Superego concerned
with upholding morality, and the Ego which uses reason to balance the desires of the two extremes.
Freud describes three levels of consciousness the conscious which is what ideas we always know
about, the preconscious which is ideas that we can make conscious, and the unconscious which is
the ideas that are underneath our understanding which may include suppressed memories of
traumatic events. He sees human motivationcoming from a vague notion of instincts which include
the life instinct which drives people to stimulate themselves/survive and the death instinct which
drives people to be calm, serene, slipping into death. Freud gives great importance to human
sexuality in his theories by linking such dilemmas during the childhood stages of development of
the sex instinct to mental problems in adulthood in the form of subconscious ideas about the past
influencing current actions. He sees defense mechanisms in people s actions as an attempt to
protect the person s view of self or to protect from revealing something they don t want known,
certain cues like forgetting what to say reveal that there is

The Advocacy Of Women s Rights On The Grounds Of...
Feminism. The advocacy of women s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic
equality to men. Why are some people so angry or offended when they hear this word? Why
does the idea of women being equal to men annoy and infuriate them? Do they not believe that
women should have the same rights as men? Should women have to cover up to avoid being cat
called by disgusting men? Should women have to cover up to avoid being molested or raped?
Should women have to stay quiet when they are raped or abused because no one would ever
believe them? Should womanbe told what to wear, say, or do with their body? I ask myself these
questions every day. The question that I ask myself the most is, Why are women of color, gay, and
transgender women constantly being disrespected?
Woman as a whole get disrespected on a daily basis. We get cat called, get told what to do with
our bodies, victim blamed, our bodies are over sexualized, and were viewed as weak and just a
piece of meat. Being a woman is already scary enough but being a gay, transgender, or woman of
color is the most terrifying experience. Its seems as if the more melanin your skin contains, the
more disrespect you receive. Why is that? Although being a woman is hard, being a white woman
gives you so much more privilege than what a woman of color gets. First of all, white woman are
seen as beautiful and attractive because of their skin. They aren t constantly told that their skin is
too dark or ugly because of

An Article An Officer And A Muslim Zionist
Sebastyne Young has said, A picture can tell a thousand words, but a few words can change its
story (Young). In 2012 Ala Wahib posed for what he thought would be an ordinary picture
however the image became extraordinary due to its inclusion in an article titled An officer and a
Muslim Zionist . It is important that at first glance it is not clear that the officer is a Muslim
because it counters a stereotype that all Muslims look alike or that Muslims are at war with
Jews. In the article Wahib is asked about how he feels about being the highest ranking Muslim
officer in the Israeli army and a Zionist. The illustration of a Muslim soldier in the IDF is a great
example of how images can have varying interpretations based on ones perspective. There is a
problem in the modern world with the way we look and understand images having to do with
Islam. Efforts taken by the media to share images which creates a positive perspective on Islam,
are rare. Instead images that cause the public to connect Muslims to terror and radicalism are
common because the media utilizes punctum s such as, an image of a young victim of a terror
attack, to tap into ones emotions, gaining the public s attention. the reason why the media cares
about increasing their audience is because the world revolves around money and unfortunately the
world has become so used to opening up the newspaper in the morning and seeing negative images,
that positive images don t appeal to media moguls. An important

All I Ever Needed To Know About Love Essay
All I ever needed to know about love, I learned form the Goo Goo Dolls. This band with songs
such as Iris , Slide , and Black Balloon speak of the longing that comes with love lost for example
in the song Black Balloon The singer talks about the fact that A thousand other boys could never
reach you, how could I have been the one. In Iris The speaker talks about the fact that regardless of
what the world thinks, his love will continue, you can t fightthe tears that ain t coming, but I know
you can feel me some how... I don t want the world to see me cause I don t think that they d
understand. In the song Slide they speak more of the sexual side of love I wanna wake up where
you are.

While the context of what love is has changed over the years the same basic elements have stayed
the same, longing, desire, hope, despair, are all constant throughout the years of songs. What was
taboo a few years ago is now almost normal; 15 years ago there were few songs about sex now
almost every song contains a reference to it, and if not directly to it than something that is a
figurative reference to sex. The Goo Goo Dolls in their song Slide defiantly refer to sex I wanna
wakeup where you are, I won t say anything at all... however later in their song that also advocate
marriage May do you wanna get married? it is this that is unusual in the mainstream pop/rock
persuasion, while most artists are talking about one night stands the Goo Goo Dolls speak about
love and commitment.
The Goo Goo Dolls in their song Iris speak about a taboo love I don t want the world to see me,
cause I don t think that they d understand... the even talk about the Hollywood spin on romance
when everything feels like the movies, yeah you bleed just to know your alive. This is very
important in the world today as we as a society often look to people who have no morals at all for
moral guidance and people who have no idea what love is (meaning they misunderstand love) for
marriage counseling or to model our relationships after.

Virginia Woolf http://www.*.com/Reports/Who s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf? Edward Albee In
Albee s play, he reveals the shallowness and meaninglessness of contemporary society, and
exposes the falsity of The American Dream . In doing this he refers to many different facets of
society such as alcohol, social conventions, measures of success and corruption on a number of
levels. Violence manifested in both language and action, reflect the frustration of the characters
in not being able to live up to society s expectations. The America Dream is a life lived to, or close

This reality is full of illusion, falseness, and deceit. In his play, Albee takes western society as a
whole and places it under one household. He shows what western society is through his
characters. He shows The American Dream in it s true form and not as it has been put out to be.
In just one night, factors of western society are conveyed violence, alcohol, lies, deceit, conflict,
along with those who participate. Through his characters, Albee was able to reveal the different
types of people who make up society today. Each character represents the different approaches
people have taken towards reality and life. Those who are still young and have not really
experienced life and are therefore kind of clueless is represented by Honey while those who
have had a good education, has a bright looking future ahead of them, and looks to become very
successful, those who have been named yuppies are represented by Nick. He is the wave of the
future . In a sense, The American Dream is actually represented by Martha s farther who does
not actually appear in the play but is frequently brought up into conversation by George and
Martha. The American Dream is something everyone wants and to get to it they must follow a
blueprint. This blueprint is Martha s father. He is someone who is looked up to by others and
these others try to replicate him. His steps should be followed directly and if so, there you have

The Mandatory Minimum Sentencing Laws
Abstract Ben Whishaw once said, The criminal justice system, like any system designed by human
beings, clearly has its flaws. For many years, the criminal justice system has been criticized for its
many problems and errors; one in particular that caught my attention was the mandatory minimum
sentencing laws. These laws basically set minimum sentences for certain crimes that judges cannot
lower, even for extenuating circumstances. The most common of these laws deal with drug offenses
and set mandatory minimum sentences for possession of a drug over a certain amount. Sentencing
procedures can vary from jurisdiction to Jurisdiction. Most of these laws are ineffective and causes
unnecessary jail overcrowding. Over the years... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, there was a case back in 2013 in Alabama where a 76 year old man, Lee Carroll
Brooker, was convicted of drug trafficking last year, and a judge sentenced him to life without
parole because of past robbery convictions in Florida. His son was also convicted. ( Roy Moore:
Life Sentence for Drug Violation Shows grave Flaw in Sentencing. AL.com. N.p., n.d. Web. 04
Dec. 2015.) Brooker lived with his son in Houston County, and court documents show police
found a marijuana growing operation there during a search in 2013. Alabama Chief Justice Roy
Moore released a statement on this case as the Supreme Court refused to overturn the case. I
mean really, this is just crazy how a petty drug offense can get a man life in prison and some
other fool is let off easy, after committing an armed robbery. The problem with LSD specifically
is that it comes in many forms. For instance, if a person is holding 1 hit of liquid LSD that is
placed on a strawberry can get up to 10 years in jail whereas another person with 100 hits of acid
in paper form may not even get a mandatory sentence if it weighs under a gram. The whole point
behind the legislation comes in response to the American public s desire to crack down on those
who sell drugs. According to The USCC (U.S. Sentencing Commission), fifty five percent of all
federal drug defendants are low level offenders, such as mules or street dealers.

The Little Girl
We first hear the word power in our lifetime often when we are children. Usually in a question
what is your favorite super power ? Most children answer with abnormal abilities such as flying or
invisibility. In its most innocent way power is inherent we think of it as an ability. However as
most children grow up they learn that powerisn t always on the good guys side. Power is defined as
what enables one person to control the behaviors of others . Power turns into a struggle from
teacher to student, parents to children, and any other relationship we possess.
Children for example need guidance and protection, therefore being a perfect example of the
power dynamic legitimate power. Legitimate power can be found within our culture and society
from our education system to our own respective family lives. Although many situations are
different there is likely someone seen in a position of power based off nothing more than their
position in your life. This can be seen in the movie crash where the little girl (Lara) believes and
inherently trusts her father (Danial). He has a right of power based on the fact he s her father
which allows a level of trust, and feeling of safety for the little girl. Furthermore legitimate power
can also be found in work place environments where employer and employee relationship are in
continuous power struggles. This happened when Cameron Thayer was approached by his superior
to re do a scene when the producer did not think the scene was done

are other skills that are also essential in both political theater and consumer culture. These days, the

United States of America, Donald Trump. People immediately think of him due to the fact that the
2016 presidential election was one of the most controversial elections in the past few decades. Many
people either love and support Donald Trump or they hate and despise him. People could have such
negative feelings toward him due to the fact that he has been caught stretching the truth and

The foundations of the International Typographic Style can be traced to two art schools, the Zurich School of the Applied Arts and the School of Design in Basel, who taught a curriculum in which form follows function. The 1950s saw a boom of the International style when it was epitomized with the creation of several new san serif type families. The geometric fonts on the 1920s and 30s was rejected in favor of designs inspired by Akzidenz Grotesk fonts. Two fonts would soon take the world by storm. In 1954 a Swiss designer working in Paris by the name of Adrian Frutiger created a family of 21 san serif fonts which he named, Univers. At the same time, back in Switzerland Edouard Hoffman of the Haas type foundry in Switzerland felt that the Akzidenz Grtotesk fonts should be refined and upgraded. Hoffman had been waiting for the right moment to release a new typeface and in 1956 he contacted Max Miedinger, who had worked with him at Haas and had since branched out as a freelance consultant and designer to help create the new typeface for Haas. Hamburgers. No, not the food, the word. Miedinger began to create a new typeface by working out the letters in the word, hamburgers, a word that includes all stylistic variations of letters. First working on pencil and paper and then creating photographic reproductions Miedinger set out to create ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Between The Federal Government And The United States The relationship between the federal government and the states has continually changed over the years. Each one has their set of duties and powers, and both are ruled by the U.S. Constitution. The states rights are more than well protected in the current constitution and the political practice. The Bill of Rights lays out what our rights are, along with fourteenth, fifteenth, nineteenth, and twenty six amendments. The amendments and constitution continue to protect our rights as Americans even hundreds of years after being established. States have the ability to make restrictions The Articles of Confederation gave Congress many powers; they could raise an army and a navy, make war and peace, set up a postal system, and print money.... Shay led his followers to close down courthouses so that judges could not take away their farms. The group went with weapons and because the Continental Army was disbanded Congress could not stop them. Massachusetts eventually ended Shay s Rebellion, sending militia troops to halt the protesting. Madison wrote to a friend. It is not possible that a government can last long under these circumstances (Frey, 2004: 105). Congress, after dealing with Shay s Rebellion called for a convention to come up with a solution to fix all the problems that the Articles of Confederation was creating. When the Constitutional Convention began, the delegates believed that the task at hand was to revise the Articles of Confederation. All the delegates agreed to throw out the Articles of Confederation and write a new constitution. As the delegates began to make a new framework a disagreement came up, where should the government s power to rule come from? Some believed that the states should, others thought the people should have the authority. The Articles of Confederation s answer was that states should have the powers while Madison believed the power should rest with the people. This is how the Virginia and New Jersey plan ... Northern Seven Years War Analysis Though Denmark was deprived of the two local primary resources which possess direct application in Baltic warfare, the state possessed the ability, as a result of the direct regnal revenue obtained from the Г resund Sound Toll, to finance competent mercenary armies in their initial conflicts against Sweden. This militaristic composition possessed the ubiquitous effects of a predominantly mercenary based force: though the individuals soldiers were more adept than a rallied militia, their activity was directly predicated by the immediate transaction of wealth, either derived from success in combat, or at periods of prolonged activity at the expense of the proprietor. • 8. Horace s Adversity Horace states, Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant, meaning that differences in a person s life, meaning misfortunes as a whole, has the ability to change a person s personality and character. This can go two separate ways though, it can make them into a better person, or a worse person. But the overall idea that Horace stated is easy to agree with. Some people will use a negative part of their life, and do their best to make it into a way to benefit their life. For example, a youtube sensation has gone viral for a vlog he made when he went to Japan and made a joke about a body he discovered in the Suicide Forest. • 9. Rick Deckard Symbolism In his novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Philip K. Dick criticizes American mass consumerism by commodifying human existence. Precisely, Dick characterizes Rick Deckard and his wife, Iran, as individuals who rely on the mood organ and the ownership of animals to define their lives. It is evident that Deckard and his wife exemplify the archetypal consumer s inability to individualize when these characters experiences are determined by the mood setting to which they dial in their mood organ (Dick 6). The mood organ is thus symbolic of the characters inability to experience emotions independently. As an object of self expression, the mood organ evokes a criticism of mass consumerism, where the ownership of an item is a declaration of one s identity and placement within a social hierarchy. Here, Deckard and Iran s identities are predicated on their mood organs. Essentially, Dick commodifies human existence by having the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This inequality emphasizes the notion that the individual s worth is dependent on extrinsic factors. Furthermore, to Deckard, owning an animal is comparable to displaying a trophy in which he shelters his own pride and self worth. For instance, when Deckard purchases the goat, he does so to get [his] confidence, [his] faith in [him]self and [his] abilities, back since owning an electric animal sapped [his] morale (Dick 170). Deckard s perspective is similar to the mass consumerist behaviour present among Americans, wherein the act of consumption instills a sense of importance. Specifically, to Deckard, it is confidence, a faith in his abilities, and his morale. Dick uses Deckard s pursuit of an animal and the mood organ to explore the commodification of human existence in a consumerist society. In doing so, Dick criticizes mass consumerism on the basis that it artificializes an individual s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Alexander Calder Research Paper Paper 4 In the course of this paper I will be analyzing Alexander Calder s work through the Psychoanalysis approach, specifically Psychobiography as I discuss the many influences throughout his life, both people and experiences, which informed his prolific body of work, in addition to it being a direct reflection of his personality. As a third generation artist, Alexander Calder grew up surrounded by art. Calder s mother was a painter and his father and grandfather were sculptors, and as a small child his parents ensured that he always had space and tools for his own artistic experimentation. Alexander Milne Calder, his grandfather, created historically based, monumental sized works such as the statue of William Penn seen on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Piet Mondrian was the source of Calder s turning toward total abstraction. After a visit to his studio Calder was struck by the walls that were like huge versions of Mondrian s paintings. He wanted to use those same concepts of abstract colors but to also set them in motion. He was inspired by Henri Matisse s paintings of flat abstract figures and that direct influence can be seen in pieces such as Hats Off. The process of Matisse s cut paper collages is also similar to Calder s cut sheets of metal. His friendship with Joan Miro is evidenced in his sculptures, through the often organic, brightly colored shapes that contrast with the sharp geometric architecture of the buildings surrounding them. Miro s influence is also seen in the subject matter that is used repeatedly; heavily abstracted and biomorphic animal forms, often showing up specifically in bird like forms: Flamingo, Big Bird, and Eagle, although Calder used other animalistic forms as well, including Cheval Rouge, (Red Horse) and even Le tamanoir (The ... • 12. Analysis Of Isabella Whitney s I. W. To Her Unconstant Lover In Isabella Whitney s I.W. To Her Unconstant Lover, she adopted a female persona that attempted to rework the notion of constancy, or faithfulness, in failed male female relationships of the Elizabethan era. Where women are often accused of being unfaithful, the speaker of the epistle writes to her unfaithful male lover and holds him accountable for their failed relationship. By analyzing Whitney s I.W. To Her Unconstant Lover, this paper will argue that Whitney s persona, I.W., challenges the misogynistic conception of female faithfulness because she uses rhetorical devices like metaphors and allusions to shift the blame onto dishonest male lovers, whose actions have a negative impact on the constancy of virtuous women. The speaker s use of metaphors and Greek allusions fundamentally allows her to rework the idea of female inconstancy, which, in turn, absolves her of fault for being abandoned by her ex lover and presents her as an intelligent and virtuous woman to her English audience. With the speaker s use of metaphors and Greek allusions, the idea of constancy in failed relationships is reworked to combat the misogynistic conception of female inconstancy. In Joan Kelly s Early Feminist Theory and the Querelle des Femmes, 1400 1789, she claims that female querelle writers reject[ed] the distorted image of women (Kelly 20) in religious texts and amatory poetry because women were often depicted as capricious creatures that men could not trust to be ... There are five cartels operating in Mexico: the Sinaloa, the Gulf, Juarez, Tijuana, the Zetas. The major cartels are the Gulf, Sinaloa and Juarez (Cook 21). Many of these cartels have joined together forming powerful alliances known as the Federation (Cook 17). The cartels work together, but they remain independent organizations. Mexican Cartels are luring youngsters as young as 11 to work in their smuggling operations, attracting them with what appears to be easy money for doing simple tasks. Cartels recruit children, who are less likely to be suspects than adults and are easily manipulated by small sums of money, and face less severe penalties than adults. Kids are asked to smuggle drugs, people and weapons through the border. Steven McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety says, They are U.S. citizens who speak Spanish and blends perfectly in the other side of the border. There is not a concrete solution to dismantle the drug cartels. The United States has worked along with Mexico to fight and win the battle against the powerful drug cartels. These days use of e commerce websites, social networking sites etc. has been increased. These usage made to create the need to store the large data. Some companies have adopted NoSQL databases, as their data is growing. Dynamo, Big table, Voldemort, Cassandra are the NoSQL databases that are used by Amazon, Google, and LinkedIn and Facebook respectively. Facing these huge data has become challenging for Relational Database Management Systems. Hence NoSQL database came into existence. Mostly Relational Database Management System satisfies ACID properties, through NoSQL database we can achieve high level of Scalability and performance. As a lot of sensitive data is stored in NoSQL databases security issues becomes growing concerns. This Paper explains about overview of NoSQL databases like Cassandra, mongo dB and their security features. Introduction: Database Management Systems has some basic requirements. They are confidentiality, integrity and Availability. Availability means the stored data should be available when needed. • 15. Tobacco Free Policy Essay Unquestionably, there is a problem in the US Army with drafting and implementing strong tobacco policies at the local level. Currently, US Army installations draft polices that do not comply with federal law and Department of Defense (DoD) regulations. There is a lack of consistency and enforcement in tobacco policies across commands (Jahnke et al., 2011). The Department of Defense has an opportunity to standardize a strong tobacco free policy that can be implemented at the local level to combat the rate of tobacco use for overall health and physical readiness within the force. Presently, in the Army 17% of Soldiers were classified as not medically ready for deployment and 32% of Soldiers reported tobacco use (Bell et al., 2015). The prevalence of tobacco use in the military and especially in the US Army is an enormous health care burden. Unfortunately, tobacco use in the military is pervasive and current federal law for tobacco in federal workplaces (Executive Order 13058) and DoD regulations (AR 600 63) are not being implemented or enforced. • 16. The Four Stages Of The Cell Cycle The cell cycle has four main stages. The cell cycle is the regular pattern of growth. The four stages consist of Gap 1 (G1), Synthesis (S), Gap 2 (G2), and Mitosis (M). Gap 1, consists of a cell that carries its normal functions. Calls also increase in size, and the organelles increase in number. A cellwill spend the most time in this phase. But it also depends on the cell type to see how long it will spend in this phase. During this phase the cell has to pass a critical checkpoint before it can continue into the (S) stage, also called the Synthesis stage. It would be dangerous for a cell to keep dividing if the certain conditions were not met. The cells in this stage also need signals from the other cells to tell the if division is needed. Now the next stage is the Synthesis stage. During this phase the cell makes a copy of it s nuclear DNA. By the end of the (S) phase DNA appears grainy in photos and the cell nucleus contains two complete sets of DNA. Gap 2, is the third stage of the cell cycle. The cells continue doing there thing and more growth occurs. This phase is like the checkpoint, everything in the cell has to be going right for the cell to be able to enter mitosis. Mitosis is the fourth stage of the cell cycle. It includes two phases mitosis and cytokinesis. Mitosis is the division of the cell s nucleus and all it s contents. Cytokinesis is the process that divides the cell s cytoplasm. The stages of the cell cycle and the proteins are all alike in all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Evaluation Of The Testing Techniques 4.3 Evaluation of the Testing Techniques 4.3.1 Hypothesis According to Wetcher Hendricks (2014), the basic principle of hypothesis testing is to make an assumption for the overall characteristics, and then making a judgment about the original hypothesis should be accepted or not, which is based on the statistical inference. Based on the research objective, the general idea of hypothesis testing for PPP started from the null hypothesis, which was expressed as having a unit root. Next, performing t test, meanwhile, comparing the value of t statistic with test critical values under the selected confidence interval. When the value of t statistic was larger than the critical value, the null hypothesis would not be rejected, meaning the existence of the unit root. If the t statistic value was smaller than the critical value, one rejected the null hypothesis, which implies that the financial time series is stationary. 4.3.2 Unit Root Test The Unit Root Test, also named Augmented Dickey Fuller Test (ADF Test), is put forward according to whether the macroeconomic datum or financial datum has some special characteristics, which is a particular method to test stationarity of the financial time series (Choi, 2015). To put it simply, testing the unit root is to examine whether there will be a unit root in the analysis of time series or not. The financial time series would be considered as non stationarity if the unit root exists, which is likely to result in spurious regressions. Due ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Under the terra nullius law, the Aboriginals lost their land, which is now known as dispossession. To justify this dispossession, the English followed the set of beliefs that are now identified as social Darwinism. Social Darwinism, with its powerful racially based doctrines, ranked Indigenous Australians as inferior to Europeans and provided a rationale for dispossession by drawing on the laws of natural selection to justify the inevitable extinction of Indigenous Australians in the face of the arrival of the superior white race (Psychology and Indigenous Australians, Foundations of Cultural Competence, 2009, pp. 75). By having their land taken away from them, the Aboriginals lost part of their spiritual connection and their sense of belonging and identity because Aboriginal culture is based heavily on the spirits of the land. (13) who clarified that hypertension and DM were associated with increased risk of PVT. That finding may be attributed to the association of dyslipidemia with diabetes and increased risk of atherosclerosis, so patients with livercirrhosisand associated diabetes or hypertension carry the risk for PVT more than cirrhotic patients without them. The number of patients who were smokers and users of contraceptive pills were also statistically higher in PVT group than non PVT group indicating that these factors may increase the risk for PVT development in cirrhotic patients which goes in agreement with Shetty and Ghosh study (14). Essay about Ethical Decision Making Ethical Decision Making We do not quite say that the new is more valuable because it fits in; but its fitting in is a test of its value a test, it is true, which can only be slowly and cautiously applied, for we are none of us infallible judges of conformity. , the famous poet T. S. Elliot once said. Ethicsand conformity go hand in hand; it is hard to talk about one subject without involving the other. This set of moral principals can vary radically, depending on the subject, circumstance, or even upbringing. On any given day an individuals morals can change depending on the happenings of that day or previous days. One tiny event may have such a large impact on an individual that they may choose to rethink their whole ethical system. The ethics you determine are yours and yours alone. You do not need a book explaining why you feel the way you do. Each individual has suffered through different hardships and has breezed through different high periods in their life. Ethics build as a person ages and experiences more. The more you have seen and witnessed, the more able you are to draw conclusions as to whether you have a point of view on that particular subject. • 33. Literary Terms For The End Literary Terms for In the End Linkin Park s In the End is a song that many people can relate to because it is about a situation that everyone has encountered. The approach Chester uses to describe a hard situation by using the structure, symbolism and prosody he specifically picks out makes the song catchy and relatable. The way he forms the song and the words he picked out allows a depressing moment to become an inspiration for anyone going through hard times. The most important literary term is structure, this is the beginning layout of the poem, story or song. This is how the poem is organized it is where the author decides how the story is to begin, the details that are going to keep the reader intrigued, the crisis and the climax and the way the poem is to end, the resolution. Even in the song In the End there is an outline of how it begins and ends. Right away the author shows that there is a major complication, he has worked hard at reaching a goal or helping a person and has failed. Then further down in the lyrics he shows the crisis, where all of the reasons are starting to build up as to why he has decided not to stay with the other character in the song, he sings reasons like when you were mocking me, acting like I was your property and fighting all the time. He even sings about everything has changed and there is no way to bring it back. He then lines it up with when the chorus hits; we see the resolution of the song. This part shows the realization that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For them to be successful in the classroom and in their sport, they have a very tough decision. They must pick two of the three: social life, academics, or athletics. They must also realize that they need to make the decision before they make a mistake for instance, becoming ineligible. Student athletes have many options for help, just as a average college student does. Student athletes need to have more readily available resources but also use their time wisely through counseling as freshman. The Problem Some people who have never participated in extracurricular activities may ask, What is so different between a student athlete s day compared to an average college student s. According to Richard Sherman, a former Stanford University student athlete and now professional football player, student athletes have mandatory lifting in the morning, meetings, and practices throughout the day during the season (Richard Sherman Student Athlete Education 00:01:14 00:01:26). • 36. Symbolism In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying There are many symbols in As I Lay Dying. William Faulkner is known for symbols in his novels. The character s names in this novel even have a meaning. Although they are hard to decipher, once the symbol is revealed, it makes the novel much more interesting. Throughout the novel, we see that almost every person s name in the Bundren family has a meaning, and every person has a symbol. The last name has a meaning itself. Bundren sounds like burden, and that is exactly what the family is to almost everyone. Starting with Anse, Faulkner uses his name to define the word anserous . Anserous means resembling a goose; silly; simple. In Addie s chapter, she describes him as a tall bird hunched in the cold weather (pg. 170). This explains Anse s goose like stature. His symbol throughout the novelis self greed. Anse states after Addie s death, But now I can get them teeth (pg. 111). This just proves how selfish he is and does not care about his wife s passing, only about his new teeth. Addie s name is very simple and does not have a meaning, but her symbol is deep. She is always looking out of the window at her coffin being built while she is lying in her bed. I believe Faulkner was showing how badly Addie wants to go to the other side. Faulkner uses powerful imagery, It was nigh toward daybreak when we drove the last nail and toted it into the house, where she was laying on the bed with the window open and the rain blowing on her again (pg. 73). This shows how sad Addie is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mercury s orbit is not circular because Mercury s the closet orbital distance to the Sun rather than being larger when contrasted with that of the other planets it is wider. Along with other planets, Mercury s surface experiences a wider range of extreme temperatures than any other planet in the Solar System, that we know of. It is very simple to explain, Mercury s surface is much hotter than any other planet, due to the direct heat for part of the day. Conveniently, the temperatures of other planets remain relatively stable because their atmospheres being virtually the same. Over time the orbit of Mercury shifts slightly around the Sun, this process is known as precession. This was a constant problem for astronomers in the late nineteen hundreds and early twenty hundreds. Many theories were presented to show the difference between the actual and fictional ideas. One idea even suggested the idea of a unknown planet closer to the Sun than Mercury had been. The truth was eventually proven when Einstein published his great theory, that there was another planet before Mercury, but he had no real proof of its existence. As a result of this theory, Mercury s orbit idea was finally described exactly how it was. Though it had been believed for a long time that Mercury s spin orbit was not correct, it was discovered in the mid twenty hundreds that it is, in fact, correct. This idea produced what would soon be a great discovery for a satellite that the planet does indeed orbit. Psychodynamic Theories Of Psychology On The Subconscious Self Psychodynamic theories of psychology focuses on the subconscious self, influencing behaviors of an individual and are used to explain the development of mental illness and abnormalities. The basis of psychodynamics is Sigmund Freud s theory in which he describes three states of mind vying for their preferred goal: the Id concerned with obtaining pleasure, the Superego concerned with upholding morality, and the Ego which uses reason to balance the desires of the two extremes. Freud describes three levels of consciousness the conscious which is what ideas we always know about, the preconscious which is ideas that we can make conscious, and the unconscious which is the ideas that are underneath our understanding which may include suppressed memories of traumatic events. He sees human motivationcoming from a vague notion of instincts which include the life instinct which drives people to stimulate themselves/survive and the death instinct which drives people to be calm, serene, slipping into death. Freud gives great importance to human sexuality in his theories by linking such dilemmas during the childhood stages of development of the sex instinct to mental problems in adulthood in the form of subconscious ideas about the past influencing current actions. In 2012 Ala Wahib posed for what he thought would be an ordinary picture however the image became extraordinary due to its inclusion in an article titled An officer and a Muslim Zionist . It is important that at first glance it is not clear that the officer is a Muslim because it counters a stereotype that all Muslims look alike or that Muslims are at war with Jews. In the article Wahib is asked about how he feels about being the highest ranking Muslim officer in the Israeli army and a Zionist. The illustration of a Muslim soldier in the IDF is a great example of how images can have varying interpretations based on ones perspective. There is a problem in the modern world with the way we look and understand images having to do with Islam. Efforts taken by the media to share images which creates a positive perspective on Islam, are rare. Instead images that cause the public to connect Muslims to terror and radicalism are common because the media utilizes punctum s such as, an image of a young victim of a terror attack, to tap into ones emotions, gaining the public s attention. the reason why the media cares about increasing their audience is because the world revolves around money and unfortunately the world has become so used to opening up the newspaper in the morning and seeing negative images, that positive images don t appeal to media moguls.
