Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card Essay
Ender s Game, by Orson Scott Card, is an exceptional novel created by an extremely smart,
intuitive, and talented individual. This novel deals with several of societies issues and is almost
satire, comparable to Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn. Some topics that are prominent in Ender s
Game are compassion, humanity, and the relationship between adults and children. These three
elements define the main character, Ender, and influence the way he makes decisions and
eventually changes the world. The setting of this particular novel is in several places (including
Greensboro, N.C., Battle School, and Command School (on Eros, one of Saturn s Moons)), but
takes place somewhere in the future. From context clues, it may take place in as soon as... Show

Due to Mazer Rackham s genius, the Formic Fleet was defeated. In preparation for the Formic s
third invasion, the International Fleet constructed Battle School and Command school to train
the smartest children in the world with the best tactical minds with rigorous training. Due to the
urgency that was taken to defeat the Formics, once and for all, the International Fleet, a new
governing body that was like United Nations on steroids, orders that children would be raised to
be the smartest the world had ever seen. Ender was one of those children. He was chosen at the
age of 6 to go to Battle School, an orbiting school that taught the children how to be good military
tacticians in the heat of battle. This was accomplished in the battle room, a large cube room
with no gravity. Cadets are given a gun that, when shot at another cadet wearing a flash suit,
causes the particular body part that was shot to freeze and become immobile. If a cadet was hit
in the stomach, their entire body would become immobile. When Ender first arrived to Battle
School, he was in a group known as the launchies, because they had just arrived to the school.
After about a year, these launchies progressed into an Army, or a group of 40 soldiers aged
anywhere from 8 12. Because Ender was so smart, he was progressed into an army after only 2
months in the launch group, unheard of in the history of the school. The commander of

The Waiting Room, By Director Peter Nix Essay
The documentary The Waiting Room is about a safety net hospital located in Oakland, California.
In the film, director Peter Nix follows patients, doctors, and staff throughout a typical day.
Furthermore, the film displays how the staff is overworked, and how the American health care
system is affecting millions of uninsured patients who try to cope with injury and disease. The film
utilizes techniques from the observational mode such as long takes, crisis structure, and
documenting unplanned everyday experiences to convey the cruel realities of Americans seeking
hope and treatment.
The Waiting Room incorporates the observational mode trait of long takes to illustrate the chaos
that occurs in the waiting room and behind the scenes of the hospital. Moreover, the long takes in
the film provide a bit of each patients background story and allows people to express their concerns
instead of revealing character individuality, which can help the viewer infer why the health care
system in America is failing. The long takes help uncover, The body language, and eye contact,
the intonation and tone of the voices, the pauses and empty time that gives the encounter the sense
of concrete, lived reality (Nicholas 176), that depicts each patients harsh reality of what it is like
living with no health insurance. For example, there is a scene where a little girl and her mom
follow a nurse into a room, the camera follows them and the viewer can see the crazy amount of
working staff. As

What Are The 10 Worst Films Of The 1980s
It s easy to view the 1980 s in childlike wonder like it s some distant fairytale utopia. The economy
was booming, the music was bumping and fashion was fly. However, lest we forget, the 1980 s
had some serious low points. Take Hollywood for example. Even the good movies seem a bit
campy these days. Today, we re not here to talk about the good films, though. Sadly, we re about
to delve into the bad with the 10 worst films of the 1980 s. Let s begin. 1. STAR TREK V: THE
LAST FRONTIER Trekkies nearly called it quits after the Shatner directed Star Trek V: The Last

Star Trek films, Shatner decided he too, could direct greatness. Oh, how he was

Analysis Of The Article Testimonial Injustice And ...
In Miranda Fricker s article Testimonial Injustice, she highlights the significant effects for the
connection of ethics and epistemology. Ethics is one of the philosophies branches that asks the
question, What is a good life or how to live a good life? Epistemology is the theory of philosophy
that ask the questions, What do you know? and How do you know it? Fricker basically,
combines the two subjects at the matter and produced the concept of epistemic injustice.
According to Fricker, epistemic injustices comes in the form of testimonial injustice. Testimonial
injustice involves preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience; that
cause any individual to put a label another individual s words as a credibility deficit or a
credibility excess. Fricker highlights, anyone can be a victim of epistemic injustices. In this
paper, I will support Fricker s argument that identity preconception and prejudgments create
credibility deficits consequently hindering right practice of epistemic that everyone should have.
According to Fricker, epistemic injustice can occur when the regular everyday individual s filled
his or her minds with prejudicial stereotypes and social power. A disadvantage of epistemic
injustice is that with these prejudicial stereotypes and social images, their brains are programmed
to trigger naturally a message to judge someone s accuracy on their knowledge. Fricker states,
social power is a capacity we have as social agents to

A Career As A Pharmacy Technician
The career path that I have chosen for myself is pharmacy technician. I have always wanted some
sort of pharmaceutical job, and a pharmacy technician seems like a career that would be do able

Oedipus Heroic Qualities
I decided to write on The Tragic Hero In Oedipus Tyrannus because I know that there is a hero
within the tragedy that he suffers. The epic poem know for his downfall by avoiding fate, which
in turn can not be avoided, can be reintroduced as a gift from the Gods. Oedipus can be seen as
giving the people of Thebes a man with heroic qualities and acting upon these qualities, versus
being the result of a Laius curse. I will prove that journey is the real reason for the epic poem, with
the process of foreshadows helping design the conclusion of the complete heroic persona.
Oedipus has a the noble qualities of a hero to include courage, fearlessness, selflessness, and strong
character. There a times in which his actions reflected these traits of being a great heroic example
to the people of Thebes. There are few instances that will be sampled from the epic drama to draw
the attention that the fate placed upon Oedipus make him more of a hero than a fulfilled curse. ...

His selflessness was noted when his fate was revealed to him by Apollo, leading him to flee
Corinth where Merope and Polybus once lived, his parents. When Jocasta was speaking with
Corinthian Oedipus s reason for leaving was revealed, quoting Jocasta Oedipus was so afraid Of
killing Polybus that he ran from home (cite). His act of a keeping the wellbeing of others in mind
shows no selfish thinking. This also showed bravery Oedipus could have chosen not to leave his
first home in Corinth; his leaving was the act of a brave and impulsive man bent on avoiding evil,
but also on outrunning divine control and prophecy

Emily Dickinson I Grew A Funeral In My Brain
American Literature

Analysis of I Felt a Funeral in my Brain
I Felt a Funeral in my Brain , by Emily Dickenson, is a poem of despair, narrating the experience
and feelings associated with sinking into an episode of depression, and arguably losing her sanity
in the process. Depression is defined as feelings of severe despondency and dejection, and is
described as a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest, affecting how you think, feel, and
behave. Creating difficulty in maintaining day to day life, and feeling as though life is not worth
living. In the first stanza, Emily Dickenson states that she can feel the mourners treading to and fro,

She begins with the stages of fearing that she is losing her sanity, to feeling the weight of
depression taking over her body, through feeling herself completely fall into a pit of despair and
isolation from the depression. Dickenson was able to use this poem to express what so many
others have felt and continue to feel, but are unable to express for themselves. As I read this
poem, I read it as a cry for help, as Dickenson hoping for someone to understand and to care, as
someone to help her out of her isolation and her misery. I Felt a Funeral in my Brain is a poem of
despondency and dejection, the feeling of sadness, and loss of interest, preventing normal day to

Did you ever encounter a situation that has changed your view on life? Whether it be something

that could ever happen, happened to me. Until later years, i found out that it would end up being
the thing that would hurt me the most in life. I used to think trustwas a cut and dry situation, but it

trust there is not much a person can do to gain it back. I am one of those people that either give all

What Is Donald Trump s Impact On Canadian Society
In 2017 I deem the person with the biggest effect on Canadian society isn t even Canadian.I believe
Donald Trump the current President of the United States Of America has made the most influential
effect in Canada. The three main reasons he has made such a massive impact is him wanting to stop
NAFTA, his impending tariff on soft lumber and his amendments to the immigrationlaws. To begin
I will be discussing Trump s plan to stop NAFTA. Stopping NAFTA would be horrific for
Canadian society. Canadian society acquires thousands of items from the U.S that can t be
produced in Canadafor instance products like oranges, lemons, limes and mangos. During 2015 the
United Statesimported $295.2 billion from Canada and exported $280.3 Billion to Canada. Without
NAFTA all goods would have a tax costing Canada Millions of Dollars.... Show more content on

Of course Trump is striving to put a 20% tariff on Canadian soft lumber. Historically Canadians
have always sold a huge amount of their soft lumber to the United States up to 65%. Moreover
on why Trump has had a major impact on Canadian society this year is his immigration laws.
Donald is making all these immigration laws to keep people out like refugees. All the refugees
that are looking to leave their country and find a place to live they can t go the U.S.A so they will
most likely come to Canada. When Trump first became elected Canada had no those choices, then
to close down its immigration website because too many people were trying to move in.
Consequently, these are the three reasons I think that Donald Trump had the biggest impact on
Canadian society in

Risk Management At Rio Olympics 2016 Essay
Abstract
Brazilians welcomed the long awaited decision of making Rio de Janeiro the host of the 2016
Olympic Games with tremendous excitement. Although Rio s fantastic natural beauty added to its
attraction in hosting the games, its alarming rates of public health and security issues immediately
triggered worldwide criticism. This makes the stakes very high when hosting the Olympic Games.
This paper examines the process of risk assessment and risk response in relation Rio Olympics
2016. The paper explores the consensus that Brazilians will be more equipped to address actions
taken by organized crime capable of affecting the Olympic Games than to face a terrorist attack.
The paper further explores criticisms and assesses Rio s ability to prepare for this important event.

Cinematography And Mise En Scene Of Edward Scissorhands
Analysis of Cinematography and Mise en scene of the film Edward Scissorhands (1990) In this
essay, I will analyze the use of cinematography and mise en scene in a five minute extract from
Tim Burton s 1990 s dark fantasy film Edward Scissorhands. The film is set in 1990 and follows
a young man named Edward, an unfinished creation exploring the world for the first time. In the
scene I have chosen, the audience establishes difference between the suburban street and the
gothic mansion and does it through the use of colour, deep focus and the use of props such as the
dead branches or the gargoyles. The function of the scene is to introduce the character Peg. Tim
burton does this by presenting a close up of a mirror at the start of the scene so... Show more content

backlit, all in sillhouette so the lighting adds to the darkness. The camera moves from an area

of the deep focus, camera exposure enables the audience to acknowledge the comparison. It cuts
to a reverse crane shot of the gothic mansion that moves up and again the audience sees Peg s
yellow car foregrounded against this huge ornate gothic piece of architechure with huge spires but
begins at a low angle to enccentruate the size of this place. The director then uses an extreme low

Diet Soda Research Paper
For those of you who think switching from the real thing to diet soda will help in losing weight;
you are in for a rude awakening. More and more research is showing that not only will it not help
but there is evidence that artificially sweetened diet beverages could actually cause you to gain
weight.
Researchers at the University of Texas HealthScience Center at San Antonio School of Medicine
did a ten year study of people who drank diet soda. They studied approximately 500 people and they
found that people who drank two or more diet sodas a day saw their waist line grow 70% more
than those who didn t drink diet soda.
As to why the drinkers of diet soda gain more weight needs additional research before the exact
causes are definitively determined. However, speculation as to the cause focuses on the effects of
artificial sweeteners and how the mind and body reacts to them.

Researchers divided the mice into two groups. Group A ate food laced with the sweetener
aspartame. After three months the aspartame group had higher levels of blood sugar than the mice
that ate normal food. There is also speculation that same is true of other artificial sweeteners even
ones made from sugar derivates or from the Stevia genus of plants.
Besides artificial sweeteners, it is further theorized that high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) has
similar effects on weight gain as artificial sweeteners. HFCS is preferred to cane sugar by food
and beverage manufacturers because it tastes similar to sugar, mixes well and is cheaper than sugar.
As ironic as it is, more and more mounting evidence is proving that sugar may be the more
beneficial sweetener when trying to lose weight. However, weight loss still comes down to
consuming fewer calories than you burn. As we all know sugar is dense in calories so if you
absolutely have to have a sweetener you may very well want to consider using sugar, but use it

(Bergman) Both Egypt and Greece had elaborate burial procedures because of the importance of the
afterlife. Since the Egyptians believed strongly that the body had to be whole for them to enter the
afterlife, the Egyptians went through a process of mummification. There were three different ways
the Egyptians went through the process of mummification. All of them had similar end results but
had different procedures and reflected upon on how much money one had. The most expensive way
started with the extraction of the major organs of the body. The brain would be extracted through
the nostrils and the internal organs but the heart would be removed through an incision of the body
cavity. (The heart was later needed in the journey to the underworld)Then the body cavity would be
cleansed and filled with various aromatic substances and sewn up again. Then they would encase
the body with natrum for seventy days. After the seventy day period the body would be washed and
wrapped in linen and then glued. When the first way of mummification was too expensive, the
embalmers would use a different treatment. Instead of extracting the organs from the body cavity
they would inject oil of cedar through the anus and then pickle the body in natrum for seventy days.
After that they would drain the liquid from the body. As the liquid drained out, the stomach and
intestines would also come out through a liquefied state and then the body was returned

Benefits Of Police Body Cameras
The need for police officers to be equipped with body cameras while on duty is crucial in
rebuilding community relations and increasing police accountability. As such, there are various
benefits and consequences in the implementation of this proposed policy for all police departments.
While benefits include lowering rates of policemisconduct, increased accountability and
transparency, improved officer training, providing effective evidence for trials and reduction of
civilian complaints, there are consequences such as the upfront cost of police cameras, legal and
privacy concerns and reliability of body camera footage. The adoption of police body cameras has
both positive and negative merits

Recording from police cameras could aid as a tool in officer training, as it could be used to
observe where and how officers could correct their behavior. Captured footage from the cameras
could be integrated in the police academy training programs, along with courses on sensitive
topics such as racial bias and sexism, to provide new officers with a foundation that exposes them
to real incidents that have happened in the field. Officers will be able to learn what encounters
with members of the community should and should not look like (Harvard Law Review, 2015).
Police body cameras will allow police departments to tailor their trainings and equip their officers
with the knowledge they need so that officers themselves can better regulate their own behavior as
well.
Providing Evidence for Trials. Footage captured from police body cameras can be used as
evidence in cases and trials, providing objective information relating to whether law enforcement
officers and their use of force in the field are justifiable. Recorded footage has the advantage of
documenting the series of events that have happened and confirms the accuracy of police reports
or statements (Harvard Law Review, 2015). Police cameras and the footage that is collected can
be used as an aid to help prosecutors secure evidence to prosecute

Essay Colonization Across the Globe
Colonization Across the Globe
After Christopher Columbus landed in the West Indies in 1492, Spain and Portugal started
disputing areas of influence on the South American continent. The dispute was eventually settled by
the Pope (Alexander VI), who in 1493, drew up defined areas of influence for the two nations with
the idea of spreading Christianity to the natives in those territories. In time the Portuguese territory
became known as Brazil, hence the working language of that country to this day is Portuguese,
while most of the rest of the continent speaks Spanish.
On 1 August 1498, during his third voyage, Columbus finally sighted the South American mainland

The Aztecs were by all accounts cruel masters over other local tribes, with the result that some of
the subjected peoples actually welcomed the arrival of the Spanish. A few of these tribes would
physically help the Spanish invaders against the Aztecs.
The Aztec religion was one of the reasons why there was so much resentment amongst the Amerind
tribes: it demanded daily human sacrifice and most of the victims for this sacrifice were seized
from surrounding Amerind tribes by the Aztecs.
The Aztec religion also played a major role in destabilizing Aztec resistance to the white invaders:
one of their gods was a plumed serpent named Quetzalcoatl, the god of wind and learning.
According to Aztec legend, Quetzalcoatl had been tricked and disgraced by another god,
Tezcatlipoca, and then travelled to the east. He vowed to return and destroy those who worshipped
his enemies, accompanied by all powerful white skinned gods.
By the time of the Spanish assault in 1519, word of the arrival of the whites, with their plumed
helmets, in the Caribbean Sea had travelled to the Aztecs, triggering the widely held superstition
that an angry Quetzalcoatl and his white skinned gods had indeed returned to exact revenge.
This fear created confusion in the Aztec camp: should they attack the newcomers, who might be the
avenging god, or should they try and appease them? This hesitancy to act was exploited by the
Spanish invaders.

Differences Between the Plebeian and Patrician 1 Differences Between the Plebeian and Patrician
University of the People July 12, 2017 Differences Between the Plebeian and Patrician 2 There
are stories about the legends of the King in the Romans Ancient History where the government of
the kings was overthrown and lead to the creation of Republican form of government (Morley,
1901). While both the Plebeians and Patricians united to drive out the kings and the struggle was
ended, the Patricians benefited from it more than the Plebeians. This paper will compare the way
of life of both Patricians and Plebeians that led to the revolt of the Plebeians. The Patricians became
the head of the government that controlled even the Plebeians. In a government where the
Patricians ruled, the Plebeians are allowed to vote in comitia centuriata but they could not hold

The Minister s Black Veil Analysis
Nobody s perfect! In the Minister s Black Veil, Mr. Hooper wears the black veil to symbolize
hidden sins among the townspeople and himself. The veil acted as a mirror, making all the
townspeople more aware of their own sins. The more aware they became of their own sinful
nature, the more uncomfortable they became with themselves. Being around the minister and
seeing his veil troubled them deeply, even during joyful times. Truth is, the article states no
specific reason as to why he wears the veil. This allows the reader to speculate as to what the
reasoning was for the black veil. As it says in the text in lines 127 130 Something must surely be
amiss with Mr. Hooper s intellects. But the strangest part of the affair is the effect of this vagary.
The physician is stating that Hooper must be out of his mind, but whatever he is doing is having
an odd effect on the people. This proves that Hooper s reason for the black veil is not only for
himself, but also as a symbol for the people.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ballad Of Birmingham Essay
Dudley Randall s poem, Ballad of Birmingham, takes the reader to its dilemma and environment
leading to the death of an innocent little girl. The poet guides his audience through the struggles,
hardships, and surroundings that his protagonist faced in Birmingham. The reader learns who or
what is the antagonist in this piece of literature that leads to the problem of the poem. Randall
demonstrates his thought of racial violence that is shown in the setting and situation of his poem,
Ballad of Birmingham. The poem is based on true events. On September 15, 1963, a church was
bombed in the city of Birmingham. The city got a nickname, Bombingham because of the
bombing occurrences that happened often by the KKK. This is why the poet, Dudley Randall,
wrote a poem about this tragic event because he had a strong feeling about people being mistreated
for their color of skin. They suffered and wanted to put an end to racismand segregation. This is
what influenced them to march and protest. In the poem, the little girl is asking her mother if she
can go and march for their freedom but the mother says no because it is too dangerous for her to
go. She rather have her child go to church and be safe than be in danger, but it turned out to be a
tragic accident taking her daughter to church.
No, baby, no, you may not go,
For I fear those guns will fire.
But you may go to church instead
And sing in the children s choir. (Randall 13 16)
As a result, the poem is a ballad. A ballad is a form of poetry that is written as a song. It is meant
to sound like a nursery rhyme. Since it sounds very child like, it is easy to understand. The poem,
Ballad of Birmingham is telling a story about a little girl who wants to join the civil rights
movement march in Birmingham, but her mother does not let her attend which turns out to be a
tragic ending. It makes a reader surprised when they read the last stanzas because no one would
have thought the little girl would ve died because of how the poem is written in a song like structure.
By introducing the poem, the protagonist asks her mother a question:
Mother dear, may I go downtown
Instead of out to play,
And march the streets of Birmingham
In a Freedom March today? (Randall 1 4)

Middle-Class Life Narrative
On the way to work, I tried not to think about Jacob being engaged, but it was impossible.
Questions filled my head as I stopped at red lights and stop signs. Could he actually propose to
someone else if we were still legally married? Did I really want to sign the papers when it was
time? Was I going to change my last name back to Blue? Was I going to have to move? I had no

bills. I liked the lifestyle I lived. I drove a Volvo SUV and didn t have a closet full of high dollar

was fine with me. I was satisfied with just having the bills paid. Coming home to a decent house,

The Republicans split between Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft to help Woodrow

New Freedom which was enacted in 1913 1914. There were a few differences from the Wilson s

Wilson was trying to do. The most important of Wilson s fourteen points the creation of the League

Preparation of 3 (2 Nitrophenyl)acrylate Utilizing the Wittig Reaction
Introduction:
The Wittig reaction, named after Georg Wittig, produces an alkene from an aldehyde or ketone
reacting with a phosphonium ylide (a Wittig reagent). The Wittig reaction is typically
stereoselective, which makes the Wittig reagents more difficult to work with but use of the Wittig
with different allyl substituents prove to make the Wittig more versatile which can lead to the
synthesis of a wide range of alkenes, styrenes, stilbenes, and 1,3 dienes which can then be used to
synthesize more complex bioactive compounds such as leukotrienes which are used to treat
asthma1. The Wittig reaction is also favored over other reagents because it can be used under

Analysis Of The Book Hosea Essay
Hosea is a polemic against idolatry and spiritual infidelity in the nation of Israel while providing
hope for the repentant of restored covenant relationship with God. The author in no uncertain terms
condemns those who look to anything other than God to satisfy them or meet their needs, whether
political (5:13; 7:3 7, 8 12), financial (4:2) or spiritual (13:2), Godalone is all sufficient. The author
uses many different styles when writing the story of Hosea, he is both technical and logically
persuasive when condemning the sins of Israel and the subsequent response of judgment from
God. He mimics Israelite courtroom language, declaring that God is bringing a charge against
the people (4:1), and then thoroughly lays out the specific offenses they have committed. On the
other hand, the author also evokes emotion, both by using the story of Hosea and Gomer
showcasing marital imagery between God and Israel but also by graphically revealing the heart
and emotion of God, who declares, My heart recoils within me: my compassion grows warm and
tender (11:8) when thinking about his beloved bride. The argument is both detailed and logical
(I.e. Israel has sinned, will not repent, and thus they will be judged), but also an emotionally
captivating and persuasive saga of God s unrelenting love for a bride who is utterly undeserving.
As aforementioned, the writing of Hosea, begins as a well formed and tightly structured
arrangement but most of the discourse are repetitive and

The Three Political Parties In America
A political party is an organization that sponsors candidates for public office under the
organization s name. A political party platform is a formal set of principal goals which are
supported by a political party or individual candidate. Typically, platforms of candidates within
their parties are consistent. This is partially because of voter s tendency to vote with their party,
and partially because of expectations of candidates. Three political parties in America are
Republicans, Democrats, and the Green party. Tax reform, environmental issues, welfare and
poverty, and immigration are all issues that different parties view from different angles. Tax reform

Motor Vehicle Accidents And Economic Stress
Motor Vehicle Accidents and Economic Stress In today s society, motor vehicle accidents can
cause serious economic stress on the average U.S. citizen. In America today, the average legal
driving age can start out at the age of eighteen. Unless those new drivers have had plenty of time
behind the wheel, they are subject to a higher risk of a motor vehicle accident that could result in
economic stress. Economic stress can come in all varieties. It can range from an influx in
vehicle insurance premiums and medical bills to the physiological stress of losing a vehicle in a
multi vehicle homestead; as well as the stress that can come from ones career or workplace. With
the economic state of America, an influx in insurance premiums and payments can seriously hit
the pocket. Motor vehicle accidents are the leading causes of traumatic injuries worldwide
(Diedericks 2). Motor vehicle accidents can cause traumatic stress, severe injury, and can even
cause serious debt. If the average U.S. citizen were to better understand what a motor vehicle
accident is and understand the leading causes of those motor vehicle, it would help in mitigating
the volume of accidents and economic stress. What is a motor vehicle accident? Many would use

Odds Against Tomorrow Character Analysis
As each day passes, the events that we encounter enters through each and everyone of our minds
and becomes an assimilation of experiences. Over a long period of time one s past experiences
come to affect how they see newer ones. As each and every experience fills our minds, it creates
an expectation or order in which our judgment causes us to assume or create reason for the future
to become a certain way. This process can be viewed as perspective, perspective influences your
actions, emotions, it can be a complete rulebook for the way a person becomes and acts. In the
book OddsAgainst Tomorrow, by Nathaniel Rich as we explore the world through the eyes of one
character, Mitchelle, we began to notice a possibly very eccentric perspective on life and chance.
Throughout the book we notice other characters and their views on the same events. This then
relays back to previous experiences or life events that these characters have undergone. Overall
through the reading we can notice a theme of multiple or different perspectives, that fact of which
perspectives are right or where these perspectives come from is determined by the reader. One can
simply conclude that because of the past experiences or events that an individual has encountered
throughout their life this then becomes a major deciding factor in their new perceptive. This
perspective can change, as the events that we experiencecome to change as well. For example an
overflow of optimism may be encountered after one

Insulin is a hormone that allows the body to store glucose. Diabetes is a disease state that results
from the body not able to use insulin or the body cannot produce enough insulin. Since there is
lack of insulin in a diabetic, glucose is not able to be stored. This means that glucose remains in
the body and draws water out of cells causing dehydration. Additionally, the kidneys cannot
reabsorb excess glucose and it spills into urine causing an osmotic effect. The above problems
mentioned lead to excessive thirst and excessive urination. In a diabetic, glucose is not able to be
used as a fuel source so fatty acids and proteins are used instead. This leads to weight loss, hunger,
and a loss of energy. Biochemistry did a great job at teaching us very relevant material about
pharmacy. As pharmacists, we dispense a lot of vitamins so it is important to know why patients
are taking them. It is also important to be able to educate them if they have any questions. This
goes for diabetic patients as well. Knowing how the disease works and being able to explain it to
patients is something that we have to know as pharmacists. We must be able to answer a patient s
questions about their diabetes and symptoms if they have any.

Diction In Jabberwocky
Lewis Carroll was among the many authors who left behind many memorable pieces of artwork.
He was known for his pseudonym and for the way he connected with children. One of Carroll s
most famous published work was Alice Adventures in Wonderland. Along, with this recognizable
novel by Carroll there was also, Through the Looking Glass, The Hunting of the Snark, and A
Tangled Tale. These stories overlooked some of the fantastic poetry he created, such as the one he
wrote in 1871, which was titled Jabberwocky.

While his famous novel is more in depth, with much more expanding action, it is equivalent to
his poem, Jabberwocky. To begin with, in Through the Looking Glass, is more of a whimsical
type of literature. While Jabberwocky, is primarily set to focus on the death of the vicious
monster, Through the Looking Glass, is focused on realizing the difference between dreams and
reality. Not you! Tweedledee retorted contemptuously. You d be nowhere. Why, you re only a
sort of thing in his dream (Tweedledee, 168). Here we have Alice trying to figure out whether
she is real or just a pure figure within someone s dream. If she is within a dream, then she knows
her actions are being controlled by dreamer. Just like in the poem, Carroll emphasizes on an
idea, by adding it twice within a text. There s no use trying, she said one can t believe impossible
things (White Queen, 177). This quote is ironic because in both the poem and novel, impossible
things are occurring from side to side. Lewis Carroll is known for making the impossible seem
possible. It was a nice touch adding this quote to the novel because this quote shows that
sometimes it is okay to believe what the mind cannot comprehend. In both works of Lewis Carroll,
it is highly encouraged to let the imagination run lose and believe in the impossible. In the novel
we get Alice, who is a pure reflection

Multilingualism and European Commission
About 250 million years ago, Pangæa the supercontinent was split up and eventually settled on the
current continental configuration. As civilization flourished, the inhabitants developed their own
language and culture on each continent. However, trading and getting along with the neighboring
communities forced many groups to learn more than their mother tongue. This pragmatic use of
multilingualism is especially evident in Sub Saharan Africa. Today, the benefits of mastering more

Consequently, multilingualism can unlock the full potential of the single market in terms of better
jobs and prosperity (European Commission). Given the appropriate environment, people tend to
pick up a new language easily at a young age. Multilingualism doesn t require complete fluency in
another language, or the ability to speak two unrelated languages. The benefits of multilingualism
are so stupendous that they extend outside the area of language. Children and elders learning a
foreign language have been demonstrated to be consistently better able to deal with distractions,
like holding two languages concurrently without allowing words and grammar slip from one to
another (Bialystok). Multilingual speakers also develop a greater vocabulary size over time
(Kosmidis), a markedly better language proficiency in, sensitivity to, and understanding of their
mother tongue (Johnson), and have a better ear for listening and sharper memories (Lapkin, Ratte).
Furthermore, evidence has shown that skill in several languages fosters creativity and innovation:
multilingual people are aware that problems can be tackled in different ways according to different
linguistic and cultural backgrounds (European Commission). They can use this ability to find new
solutions. Ultimately, United States needs to acknowledge that the social,

  • 2. Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card Essay Ender s Game, by Orson Scott Card, is an exceptional novel created by an extremely smart, intuitive, and talented individual. This novel deals with several of societies issues and is almost satire, comparable to Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn. Some topics that are prominent in Ender s Game are compassion, humanity, and the relationship between adults and children. These three elements define the main character, Ender, and influence the way he makes decisions and eventually changes the world. The setting of this particular novel is in several places (including Greensboro, N.C., Battle School, and Command School (on Eros, one of Saturn s Moons)), but takes place somewhere in the future. From context clues, it may take place in as soon as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to Mazer Rackham s genius, the Formic Fleet was defeated. In preparation for the Formic s third invasion, the International Fleet constructed Battle School and Command school to train the smartest children in the world with the best tactical minds with rigorous training. Due to the urgency that was taken to defeat the Formics, once and for all, the International Fleet, a new governing body that was like United Nations on steroids, orders that children would be raised to be the smartest the world had ever seen. Ender was one of those children. He was chosen at the age of 6 to go to Battle School, an orbiting school that taught the children how to be good military tacticians in the heat of battle. This was accomplished in the battle room, a large cube room with no gravity. Cadets are given a gun that, when shot at another cadet wearing a flash suit, causes the particular body part that was shot to freeze and become immobile. If a cadet was hit in the stomach, their entire body would become immobile. When Ender first arrived to Battle School, he was in a group known as the launchies, because they had just arrived to the school. After about a year, these launchies progressed into an Army, or a group of 40 soldiers aged anywhere from 8 12. Because Ender was so smart, he was progressed into an army after only 2 months in the launch group, unheard of in the history of the school. The commander of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Waiting Room, By Director Peter Nix Essay The documentary The Waiting Room is about a safety net hospital located in Oakland, California. In the film, director Peter Nix follows patients, doctors, and staff throughout a typical day. Furthermore, the film displays how the staff is overworked, and how the American health care system is affecting millions of uninsured patients who try to cope with injury and disease. The film utilizes techniques from the observational mode such as long takes, crisis structure, and documenting unplanned everyday experiences to convey the cruel realities of Americans seeking hope and treatment. The Waiting Room incorporates the observational mode trait of long takes to illustrate the chaos that occurs in the waiting room and behind the scenes of the hospital. Moreover, the long takes in the film provide a bit of each patients background story and allows people to express their concerns instead of revealing character individuality, which can help the viewer infer why the health care system in America is failing. The long takes help uncover, The body language, and eye contact, the intonation and tone of the voices, the pauses and empty time that gives the encounter the sense of concrete, lived reality (Nicholas 176), that depicts each patients harsh reality of what it is like living with no health insurance. For example, there is a scene where a little girl and her mom follow a nurse into a room, the camera follows them and the viewer can see the crazy amount of working staff. As ... • 6. Analysis Of The Article Testimonial Injustice And ... In Miranda Fricker s article Testimonial Injustice, she highlights the significant effects for the connection of ethics and epistemology. Ethics is one of the philosophies branches that asks the question, What is a good life or how to live a good life? Epistemology is the theory of philosophy that ask the questions, What do you know? and How do you know it? Fricker basically, combines the two subjects at the matter and produced the concept of epistemic injustice. According to Fricker, epistemic injustices comes in the form of testimonial injustice. Testimonial injustice involves preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience; that cause any individual to put a label another individual s words as a credibility deficit or a credibility excess. Fricker highlights, anyone can be a victim of epistemic injustices. In this paper, I will support Fricker s argument that identity preconception and prejudgments create credibility deficits consequently hindering right practice of epistemic that everyone should have. According to Fricker, epistemic injustice can occur when the regular everyday individual s filled his or her minds with prejudicial stereotypes and social power. A disadvantage of epistemic injustice is that with these prejudicial stereotypes and social images, their brains are programmed to trigger naturally a message to judge someone s accuracy on their knowledge. Fricker states, social power is a capacity we have as social agents to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Oedipus Heroic Qualities I decided to write on The Tragic Hero In Oedipus Tyrannus because I know that there is a hero within the tragedy that he suffers. The epic poem know for his downfall by avoiding fate, which in turn can not be avoided, can be reintroduced as a gift from the Gods. Oedipus can be seen as giving the people of Thebes a man with heroic qualities and acting upon these qualities, versus being the result of a Laius curse. I will prove that journey is the real reason for the epic poem, with the process of foreshadows helping design the conclusion of the complete heroic persona. Oedipus has a the noble qualities of a hero to include courage, fearlessness, selflessness, and strong character. There a times in which his actions reflected these traits of being a great heroic example to the people of Thebes. • 15. What Is Donald Trump s Impact On Canadian Society In 2017 I deem the person with the biggest effect on Canadian society isn t even Canadian.I believe Donald Trump the current President of the United States Of America has made the most influential effect in Canada. The three main reasons he has made such a massive impact is him wanting to stop NAFTA, his impending tariff on soft lumber and his amendments to the immigrationlaws. To begin I will be discussing Trump s plan to stop NAFTA. Stopping NAFTA would be horrific for Canadian society. Canadian society acquires thousands of items from the U.S that can t be produced in Canadafor instance products like oranges, lemons, limes and mangos. During 2015 the United Statesimported $295.2 billion from Canada and exported $280.3 Billion to Canada. Without NAFTA all goods would have a tax costing Canada Millions of Dollars.... Historically Canadians have always sold a huge amount of their soft lumber to the United States up to 65%. All the refugees that are looking to leave their country and find a place to live they can t go the U.S.A so they will most likely come to Canada. When Trump first became elected Canada had no those choices, then to close down its immigration website because too many people were trying to move in. Cinematography And Mise En Scene Of Edward Scissorhands Analysis of Cinematography and Mise en scene of the film Edward Scissorhands (1990) In this essay, I will analyze the use of cinematography and mise en scene in a five minute extract from Tim Burton s 1990 s dark fantasy film Edward Scissorhands. The film is set in 1990 and follows a young man named Edward, an unfinished creation exploring the world for the first time. In the scene I have chosen, the audience establishes difference between the suburban street and the gothic mansion and does it through the use of colour, deep focus and the use of props such as the dead branches or the gargoyles. The Aztecs were by all accounts cruel masters over other local tribes, with the result that some of the subjected peoples actually welcomed the arrival of the Spanish. A few of these tribes would physically help the Spanish invaders against the Aztecs. The Aztec religion was one of the reasons why there was so much resentment amongst the Amerind tribes: it demanded daily human sacrifice and most of the victims for this sacrifice were seized from surrounding Amerind tribes by the Aztecs. The Aztec religion also played a major role in destabilizing Aztec resistance to the white invaders: one of their gods was a plumed serpent named Quetzalcoatl, the god of wind and learning. According to Aztec legend, Quetzalcoatl had been tricked and disgraced by another god, Tezcatlipoca, and then travelled to the east. He vowed to return and destroy those who worshipped his enemies, accompanied by all powerful white skinned gods. By the time of the Spanish assault in 1519, word of the arrival of the whites, with their plumed helmets, in the Caribbean Sea had travelled to the Aztecs, triggering the widely held superstition that an angry Quetzalcoatl and his white skinned gods had indeed returned to exact revenge. This fear created confusion in the Aztec camp: should they attack the newcomers, who might be the avenging god, or should they try and appease them? • 30. Ballad Of Birmingham Essay Dudley Randall s poem, Ballad of Birmingham, takes the reader to its dilemma and environment leading to the death of an innocent little girl. The poet guides his audience through the struggles, hardships, and surroundings that his protagonist faced in Birmingham. The reader learns who or what is the antagonist in this piece of literature that leads to the problem of the poem. Randall demonstrates his thought of racial violence that is shown in the setting and situation of his poem, Ballad of Birmingham. The poem is based on true events. On September 15, 1963, a church was bombed in the city of Birmingham. The city got a nickname, Bombingham because of the bombing occurrences that happened often by the KKK. This is why the poet, Dudley Randall, wrote a poem about this tragic event because he had a strong feeling about people being mistreated for their color of skin. They suffered and wanted to put an end to racismand segregation. This is what influenced them to march and protest. In the poem, the little girl is asking her mother if she can go and march for their freedom but the mother says no because it is too dangerous for her to go. She rather have her child go to church and be safe than be in danger, but it turned out to be a tragic accident taking her daughter to church. No, baby, no, you may not go, For I fear those guns will fire. But you may go to church instead And sing in the children s choir. (Randall 13 16) As a result, the poem is a ballad. A ballad is a form of poetry that is written as a song. It is meant to sound like a nursery rhyme. Since it sounds very child like, it is easy to understand. The poem, Ballad of Birmingham is telling a story about a little girl who wants to join the civil rights movement march in Birmingham, but her mother does not let her attend which turns out to be a tragic ending. It makes a reader surprised when they read the last stanzas because no one would have thought the little girl would ve died because of how the poem is written in a song like structure. By introducing the poem, the protagonist asks her mother a question: Mother dear, may I go downtown Instead of out to play, And march the streets of Birmingham In a Freedom March today? This stabilization for the anion gives the antioxaphosphetane intermediate, which then produces the trans alkene. There was a low yield for the product, as much of the reactant remained in the analysis sample, despite what seemed to be a decent yield by mass. This could be because of poor mixing after the reaction was heated since much of the reactant had solidified. Another source of error could be in separating products since the fractions from column ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Analysis Of The Book Hosea Essay Hosea is a polemic against idolatry and spiritual infidelity in the nation of Israel while providing hope for the repentant of restored covenant relationship with God. The author in no uncertain terms condemns those who look to anything other than God to satisfy them or meet their needs, whether political (5:13; 7:3 7, 8 12), financial (4:2) or spiritual (13:2), Godalone is all sufficient. The author uses many different styles when writing the story of Hosea, he is both technical and logically persuasive when condemning the sins of Israel and the subsequent response of judgment from God. He mimics Israelite courtroom language, declaring that God is bringing a charge against the people (4:1), and then thoroughly lays out the specific offenses they have committed. On the other hand, the author also evokes emotion, both by using the story of Hosea and Gomer showcasing marital imagery between God and Israel but also by graphically revealing the heart and emotion of God, who declares, My heart recoils within me: my compassion grows warm and tender (11:8) when thinking about his beloved bride. The argument is both detailed and logical (I.e. Israel has sinned, will not repent, and thus they will be judged), but also an emotionally captivating and persuasive saga of God s unrelenting love for a bride who is utterly undeserving. As aforementioned, the writing of Hosea, begins as a well formed and tightly structured arrangement but most of the discourse are repetitive and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Three Political Parties In America A political party is an organization that sponsors candidates for public office under the organization s name. A political party platform is a formal set of principal goals which are supported by a political party or individual candidate. Typically, platforms of candidates within their parties are consistent. This is partially because of voter s tendency to vote with their party, and partially because of expectations of candidates. Three political parties in America are Republicans, Democrats, and the Green party. Tax reform, environmental issues, welfare and poverty, and immigration are all issues that different parties view from different angles. Tax reform has been an integral part of American politicssince the nation s birth. The Boston Tea Party was an initial display of how strongly the colonists felt about taxes. As more scientific evidence has surfaced in recent years in relevance to global warming, many informed individuals feel as though the environment is an important political issue. The Republican party stresses that conservation is a conservative value and private property ownership is key to an environmental agenda. The Democratic party aims to restore wilderness and watersheds for generations to come. However, they honor hunting fishing heritage via more conservation lands. The Green party advocates strongly for environmental issues, as made clear by their name. This party believes that: the Human species has no right to exploit animals, sustainable society lives within planet s resource limits, and we should safely dispose of all waste we create. A scientist who knows the effects of global warming and the state of our planet may feel obligated to vote for the Green party because of their environment issues, solely. • 40. Odds Against Tomorrow Character Analysis As each day passes, the events that we encounter enters through each and everyone of our minds and becomes an assimilation of experiences. Over a long period of time one s past experiences come to affect how they see newer ones. As each and every experience fills our minds, it creates an expectation or order in which our judgment causes us to assume or create reason for the future to become a certain way. This process can be viewed as perspective, perspective influences your actions, emotions, it can be a complete rulebook for the way a person becomes and acts. In the book OddsAgainst Tomorrow, by Nathaniel Rich as we explore the world through the eyes of one character, Mitchelle, we began to notice a possibly very eccentric perspective on life and chance. Throughout the book we notice other characters and their views on the same events. This then relays back to previous experiences or life events that these characters have undergone. Overall through the reading we can notice a theme of multiple or different perspectives, that fact of which perspectives are right or where these perspectives come from is determined by the reader. One can simply conclude that because of the past experiences or events that an individual has encountered throughout their life this then becomes a major deciding factor in their new perceptive. This perspective can change, as the events that we experiencecome to change as well. For example an overflow of optimism may be encountered after one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. End Of Semester Reflection. This Semester Has Been A Tough End of Semester Reflection This semester has been a tough one but I feel like I have learned a lot about pharmacy over these past few months. I have had a lot of courses so far and in each one, I have been able to make connections to the practice of pharmacy. In this essay, I will reflect on some of things I learned in my courses and how they relate to my future career as a pharmacist. I will also identify areas where certain topics intersect in different courses. In my pharmaceutics course, I learned a lot about drug dosage forms. One example is when I was taught about the different kinds of inhalers and what distinguishes them from each other. I also learned about how these inhalers deliver the drug into the target organ and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Insulin is a hormone that allows the body to store glucose. Diabetes is a disease state that results from the body not able to use insulin or the body cannot produce enough insulin. Since there is lack of insulin in a diabetic, glucose is not able to be stored. This means that glucose remains in the body and draws water out of cells causing dehydration. Additionally, the kidneys cannot reabsorb excess glucose and it spills into urine causing an osmotic effect. The above problems mentioned lead to excessive thirst and excessive urination. In a diabetic, glucose is not able to be used as a fuel source so fatty acids and proteins are used instead. This leads to weight loss, hunger, and a loss of energy. Biochemistry did a great job at teaching us very relevant material about pharmacy. As pharmacists, we dispense a lot of vitamins so it is important to know why patients are taking them. It is also important to be able to educate them if they have any questions. This goes for diabetic patients as well. Knowing how the disease works and being able to explain it to patients is something that we have to know as pharmacists. We must be able to answer a patient s questions about their diabetes and symptoms if they have any. In our ABLE lab course, we took a lot of things we learned in some of our courses and performed hands on activities using what we learned. For example, when we learned about suppositories in pharmaceutics, we compounded them in a lab activity. In fact, we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Diction In Jabberwocky Lewis Carroll was among the many authors who left behind many memorable pieces of artwork. He was known for his pseudonym and for the way he connected with children. One of Carroll s most famous published work was Alice Adventures in Wonderland. Along, with this recognizable novel by Carroll there was also, Through the Looking Glass, The Hunting of the Snark, and A Tangled Tale. These stories overlooked some of the fantastic poetry he created, such as the one he wrote in 1871, which was titled Jabberwocky. The purpose of this essay is to inspect Lewis Carroll s poem, Jabberwocky, therefore having a deeper understanding of its meaning and style. The idea is to find the lifting rhythm behind this soul grabbing poetry. The methodology of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While his famous novel is more in depth, with much more expanding action, it is equivalent to his poem, Jabberwocky. To begin with, in Through the Looking Glass, is more of a whimsical type of literature. While Jabberwocky, is primarily set to focus on the death of the vicious monster, Through the Looking Glass, is focused on realizing the difference between dreams and reality. Not you! Tweedledee retorted contemptuously. You d be nowhere. Why, you re only a sort of thing in his dream (Tweedledee, 168). Here we have Alice trying to figure out whether she is real or just a pure figure within someone s dream. If she is within a dream, then she knows her actions are being controlled by dreamer. Just like in the poem, Carroll emphasizes on an idea, by adding it twice within a text. There s no use trying, she said one can t believe impossible things (White Queen, 177). This quote is ironic because in both the poem and novel, impossible things are occurring from side to side. Lewis Carroll is known for making the impossible seem possible. It was a nice touch adding this quote to the novel because this quote shows that sometimes it is okay to believe what the mind cannot comprehend. In both works of Lewis Carroll, it is highly encouraged to let the imagination run lose and believe in the impossible. In the novel we get Alice, who is a pure reflection ... Whether it is a kid, a baby, a person being happy, laughing, or in an upset mood, poverty, death, etc. One example of pathos in this documentary is based from one of the kids, Anthony. Anthony s Dad passed away due to drugs. Ever since, he has had difficulties at school and was even held back for one year. He is very focused on getting a good education and getting out of his current situation in life. The obstacles he face makes the audience feel sorry for him. Another example of pathos that took place in this film is from Daisy, a girl that loves school. Daisy wants to be a surgeon or a veterinarian. Her Dad is unemployed, but her Mom is working very hard. Both of her parents didn t finish school. This makes the audience have mixed emotions because Daisy wants to be successful with school, but her parents weren t very successful, which makes it hard for her to be successful. The final example of pathos being showed in this film is yet another kid, Francisco. Francisco likes math. His Mom is worried and curious about how he is doing in school, but his teacher will not report back to his Mom about how he is doing. His school entrance has a desk and a security guard. This makes the audience feel sad for Francisco because his school is not allowing his Mom to be involved in his school work, and his Mom does not know if he is making progress or ... As civilization flourished, the inhabitants developed their own language and culture on each continent. However, trading and getting along with the neighboring communities forced many groups to learn more than their mother tongue. This pragmatic use of multilingualism is especially evident in Sub Saharan Africa. Consequently, multilingualism can unlock the full potential of the single market in terms of better jobs and prosperity (European Commission). Given the appropriate environment, people tend to pick up a new language easily at a young age. Multilingualism doesn t require complete fluency in another language, or the ability to speak two unrelated languages. The benefits of multilingualism are so stupendous that they extend outside the area of language. Children and elders learning a foreign language have been demonstrated to be consistently better able to deal with distractions, like holding two languages concurrently without allowing words and grammar slip from one to another (Bialystok). Multilingual speakers also develop a greater vocabulary size over time (Kosmidis), a markedly better language proficiency in, sensitivity to, and understanding of their mother tongue (Johnson), and have a better ear for listening and sharper memories (Lapkin, Ratte). Furthermore, evidence has shown that skill in several languages fosters creativity and innovation: multilingual people are aware that problems can be tackled in different ways according to different linguistic and cultural backgrounds (European Commission). They can use this ability to find new solutions. Ultimately, United States needs to acknowledge that the social, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
