According to Freud, defense mechanisms exist as a way for the ego to deal with things it

In all of these stories, Abraham at least contemplates, or comes very close to actually sacrificing
his son, his number one priority, to God because of his commitment to God. In three of the four
stories, Abraham comes very close to actually sacrificing Isaac to God and this show a lot of
faith. Even in the third story where Abraham takes his command as a test and begs for
forgiveness for even contemplating following through with the order, even doing that shoes a
lot of commitment. Abraham realizes that one s relationship to God comes first before
anything, and that for one to truly be connected to Good, one must follow his orders and satisfy
his requests. By showing his faith to God and putting Him first, he at least contemplates
sacrificing his son to God because of his religious duty, and that is some extreme faith that is
incomprehensible. This is why in God s eyes, Abraham is so great, and because of the amount of
faith and commitment he has to God. In the first story, Abraham tries to cover up the fast that he
would be killing Isaac because it was a command of God by pretending to have gone mad and
psychopathic, so that Isaac does not lose faith in God, but only in Abraham. In the second story,
Abraham shows that he is going to sacrifice Isaac, and does not follow through because God
