Ridley Scott s Blade Runner Essay
Ridley Scott s Blade Runner In 1982 Ridley Scott s movie Blade Runner was quietly released
and received mixed reviews7. As time passed the movie s fan base expanded and today, many
consider it to be one of the greatest science fiction movies of all time. Numerous people consider
it Harrison Ford s greatest acting role, which, considering the competition consisting of Han Solo
and Indiana Jones, is no small feat. Originally, critics missed or were confused by the
philosophical questions the movie posed but as more people saw it, the movie s brilliance was
gradually realized. The questions Blade Runner posed about the future of computer intelligence
were far ahead of their time. A major issue of the movie is that, if AI ever became... Show more

After four replicants escape slavery on an off world colony and kill Deckard s replacement
when he investigates their attempted break in of Tyrell Corporation headquarters, the chief of
police forces Deckard out of retirement to solve the problem . To understand why these
replicants wanted to break into Tyrell Corporation it is necessary to explain the structure and
creation of replicants. Replicants are similar in appearance to humans in every conceivable way.
However, they are stronger both mentally and physically, also having superior reaction skills
and the inability to feel pain. The structure of the replicant brain is very similar to the human
brain. Replicants have above average intelligence and feel emotions in the same way that people
do. They are all capable of love, hatred, anger, jealousy and remorse (all exhibited throughout the
movie). To safeguard against the possibility of replicants replacing humans as the dominant
species, Doctor Eldon Tyrell, head of Tyrell Corporation, programmed a precautionary 4 year
lifespan into the replicant mind. The four replicants, acting as humans would, escape from the off
world to seek their creator in hopes of finding a way to extend their lives. Given Deckard s
removal from the profession for some time, Tyrell proposes bringing Deckard up to speed with
technology by introducing him to Rachel, a replicant similar to the rogue replicants. Using a

Rhetorical Analysis Of Pharmaceutical Innovation Can We...
Rhetorical Analysis: Pharmaceutical InnovationIn Joel Lexchin s article Pharmaceutical
innovation: Can we live forever? A commentary on Schnittker and Karandinos he addresses the
article made by Schnittker and Karandinos about the progression of pharmaceuticals and whether or
not we have advanced enough to significantly increase our life expectancy. Lexchin uses a plethora
of rhetoricto persuade the reader into believing his argument, mostly relying upon logos, chiefly
facts, to appeal to the logical and sensible side of the readers. His argument is not limited to logos
though, as there are faint traces of pathos, the longing to live forever, as well as ethos, society s
needs for further advances, to further convince the reader.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is an extremely powerful tool, as when one sees numbers such as the ones previously stated,
that look very logical, it is hard not to believe them. Unconvinced that we really will be saved by
innovation , Lexchin continues to describe the results of an experiment done involving the
treatments of patients with similar underlying conditions by both Canada and the United States.
The results of which, favoured Canada, which leads to some very difficult questions; if the US
has considerably greater care units than Canada, as well as a higher NME approval rate, why is
the life expectancy higher? While throwing logic at us from every angle, Lexchin also manages
to appeal to our deeper desires. He plays on humans yearning for eternal youth and immortality,
as well as our fear of death. Immortality is a common goal of society and Lexchin uses is as a tool
to get the reader to listen to his argument. With a respectable argument against the idea of
pharmaceutical advances eventually leading to immortality, Lexchin uses multiple forms of
rhetoric, mostly logos, to sway the readers. He sets our deep fantasies of someday being able to
live forever against our rational minds and backs up his case with sound logic and viable examples
that leave us no doubts about human limitation.

Role Of Isolation In Uglies
Fear is an emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is risky or dangerous.
Everyone has a fear of something in life; whether it s spiders, snakes, public speaking, exams or
even heights. However, a teen s most common fear is isolation. Isolation is when you feel alone or
separated from other people. Many teenagers today fear isolation because of the experience of
losing a friend, straining familyrelationships, and struggling to fit in. Teenagers often feel lonely
because they do not have the required friendships that a person desires. Teens need friends that
would care for them, provide support when needed, and understand the situation they are in. When
they fail to get these certain necessities, they feel like they have... Show more content on

They feel as if they are not cool enough to join a certain group of people. Many teens feel like a
misfit, someone who cannot fit in with the crowd. Why does society make it seem like you have to
be a part of a certain group in order for someone to be accepted? In Uglies, by Scott Westerfeld,
fifteen year old, Tally Youngblood, feels isolated from a group of people because she is an ugly
. She feels that in order to fit in she needs to have the pretty surgery. Tally states, Pretties do look
different. They look like themselves. It s just a lot more subtle, because they re not all freaks
(Westerfeld 82). Tally had thought all her life that the only way to get attention from others is to
become a pretty . It s not her fault she grew up in a world where every sixteen year old was
forced to have the pretty surgery. How could she think that she will look normal, if she looks the
same as everyone around her? Just like this many teens try to fit in with society s social norms .
In the drama play, I Claudia, by Kristen Thomson, it is evident that the main character, Claudia,
doesn t fit in with her group of friends because of the way she looks. She states, Stacey told
everyone that she s wearing hot pants and makeup. I wear bell bottoms and platforms, but not
hot pants. I think that they are too short and my legs would just stick out like that (Thomson 23)
This shows teens that the character Claudia has low self esteem; she is afraid to wear the
clothes that she wishes to wear because of the fear of judgement. Why do teens try so hard to
have a perfect body shape? Teens can feel isolated from a group of people because of the way
they may act, look, or understand things. They feel hurt or sad when excluded from a group of
individuals; therefore they feel like they don t

Downtown Vancouver
Downtown Vancouver is a significantly diverse city, with smaller neighborhoods within
reflecting historical background and projecting how the world has influenced our city. In this
assignment, I will compare and contrast my experiences in the different areas of downtown
Vancouver, as well as discuss the knowledge I gained from this field trip. I started my tour at
Waterfront Station by taking the SeaBus, a ferry connecting the city centre with North
Vancouver. Being in the Vancouver Harbour, you get to see first hand how important global
trade is for our economy, and how active the Vancouver port is. While on the SeaBus, there are
massive cargo ships with hundreds of crates stacked upon each other, towering over the small
ferry. According to an information sign, Vancouver is Canada s largest port, and one of the
busiest in all of North America. I had the chance to see a freighter with Italy labeled on it in large
bold letters along with the Italian flag, which was very intriguing. It is remarkable to know that
ships from all around the world sail in and out of our port daily, likewise ships from Vancouver

6). I had never been here before but I absolutely enjoyed the simplicity the plaza and architecture
offered. When I first saw this building, I was excepting it to be a historical one, possibly part of
the Gastown design, because of the colours and materials the exterior was made of, yet I also
assumed it could not be too old as it also was a glass high rise (like many modern buildings
today). I was shocked to learn that the current standing building was completed in 2009, yet it
blended it very well with the rest of the Gastown area. The plaza was very fresh and urban, with
modern art, expensive coffee shops, and even a basketball court in the indoor atrium. Exiting the
Woodward s Development plaza, you get a view of Downtown East Side, a very different ambiance
than the expensive coffee shops of the West

Equality In The Time Machine
The Journey for EqualityThe sole equality on earth is death. Although true equality may not be
attainable in this world, Wells explores what life would be like if peace and equality was normal.
The Eloi and Morlocks are used to represent his ideas, and although they have differences, they are
both given the chance to become better. H.G. Wells manages to incorporate a sense of equality
throughout his novel The Time Machine.
H.G. Wells leaves the characters nameless in order to create a sense of equality among them. The
very first thing Wells does is introduce the characters, because without them, there would be no
audience to tell the story to. The characters are important to the novel, yet most of them remain
nameless. They are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wells portrays a manipulative relationship between the Eloi and the Morlocks. The Eloi abused
their power and in return, the Morlocks took it over. Starting in chapter five and throughout the
rest of the novel, we see the hostility of the two groups. The Eloi hate the dark because of the
Morlocks. The Morlocks terrorize and eat the Eloi as portrayed by the Time Traveller. Upon
finding this out, the Time Traveller jumps to the conclusion that the Morlocks are bad. In fact,
the Eloi had it coming to them, they dealt a dirty blow and they received a bigger one. Wells
used his knowledge to interpret what would happen if one group was given the upper hand for too
long. It s only natural for the Morlocks to retaliate, and this nature is why equality is never
attainable. Although the two groups are depicted as enemies, they are equal in certain ways. Both
groups were given a chance to excel and it happened at different times. The Morlocks were able to
assess the situation, and given there opportunistic origins, were able to make the best of it. Neither
group is better than each other, but neither group is worse either. This equality between them,
although fleeting, depicts a surreal, almost utopian,

The Scarlet Letter By Nathanial Hawthorne
Acceptance
Introduction
In June 1642, in the Puritan town of Boston, a crowd gathers to witness the punishment of Hester
Prynne, a young woman found guilty of adultery. She is required to wear a scarlet A on her dress
to shame her. She must stand on the scaffold for three hours, to be exposed to public humiliation.
As Hester approaches the scaffold, many of the women in the crowd are angered by her beauty and
quiet dignity.
The Scarlet Letter written by Nathanial Hawthorne centers on sin, identity and society. The
meaning of the A in the Scarlet Letter is meant to mean Adulterer . The meaning is not definite,
the A meaning rather ambiguous is taken to mean what the person wants it to mean, equivocally
it can be said that the meaning(s) of the A mirrors the beliefs and thoughts of its onlookers. The
meaning of A as a motif is a recurring concept and idea centering on society and identity. She had
wandered, without rule or guidance, into a moral wilderness... Her intellect and heart had their
home, as it were, in desert places, where she roamed as freely as the wild Indian in his woods...
The scarlet letter was her passport into regions where other women dared not tread. Shame,
Despair, Solitude! These had been her teachers stern and wild ones and they had made her strong,
but taught her much amiss. The A was meant to cripple Hester; to be a warning a reminder to
others that sin would forever follow till death, as this was puritan belief. Hester though lonely

Examples Of Mall Observation
I chose to observe the library I work for, which is the Squirrel Hill location of the Carnegie Library
of Pittsburgh system. I performed my observation around 3:30 PM on Monday, September 19th.
There are technically three outdoor entrances, but two of them actually lead to the main inner
entrance. You can see the main entrance from the street, which allows paid parking. The library
itself is positioned above a parking lot (also paid parking), which is where the second main
entrance is seen. Both of these two main entrances lead to the same lobby area where you can
either take the steps or the elevator to the library floor. The third entrance is located on the
opposite side of the branch along the side street, which is residential and free parking, but you can t
see the entrance until you physically walk up the driveway.
Upon entering, there are no signs indicated the layout of the library. At potentially strategic
locations as determined by the Facilities department, there are extremely vague maps indicating
emergency exits for the building, but they are small and not very noticeable. By the main outer
entrances, there is an elevator, stairs, and a space for flyers (bulletin board and a shelf); by the
inner main entrance, there s a bench outside. Upon entering the library, the magazine collection and
first security stand is immediately to the left. On the right are New books in paperback format that
are strung up in display. Ahead is the New and Bestseller collection

Essay about Andrew Jackson, an Ideal President for America
Andrew Jackson, seventh president of the United States of America, can be debated as either a
good president or bad president. But if one were to weigh out the positives and negatives of
Andrew Jackson s presidency, one would realize that his positives outweigh his negatives for a
variety of historic facts. Andrew Jacksonwas a good president because he represented the majority
of America s people by being a common, prevented a civil war when South Carolina threatened to
secede from the nation, and because he technically found or instigated the two major parties used
in America today (Democratic and Republican). Many Jackson oppositionists despise him because

Jackson is very important because he created or instigated the two dominant political parties we
use today (democratic and republican). The beliefs in these parties switched several times in
history but initially Jackson was a democrat. The major beliefs in democrats in the 1820s 1850s
were the beliefs in a small national government, pro states rights, and a strict interpretation of the
constitution. The republicans (initially known as the Whigs) essentially opposed all of Jackson
s beliefs and therefore had more or less the complete opposite beliefs of the democrats. By
starting these two political parties, he started the way people would categorize political
candidates throughout the rest of American history. There are many who are against Andrew
Jackson because he is a hypocrite. An example of this is how Jackson states he is against slavery
but still owned slaves. One has to understand that America was founded on hypocrisy. Essentially
what Jackson is trying to do is to make compromises on situations so he can support both sides of
an argument to represent as many people as possible. Conclusively Jackson was a great president
because he represented the people of America by being a common man, overcame huge obstacles
such as keeping South Carolina from seceding, and by forming the two most popular political
parties used in America today, the Democrats and the Republicans. Those who argue that Jackson
was a bad president simply

The Power of Subjugation in “Things Fall Apart” by Chinua...
Okonkwo in Things Fall Apart utilises direct imperatives to instruct those subordinate to him.
This is seen throughout the text, such as when Okonkwo orders one of his wives to get me a pot
and to leave the child alone . The language used by Okonkwo serves as a tool of subjugation,
with the coarse use of direct imperatives and harsh remarks serves to overpower them to the point
of them becoming his slaves. Hugh as a societal and familial patriarch is presented in light of a

Hugh s attitude towards Owen is one which is more positive and kind then that compared to
Manus. Owen is considered handsome and is always dressed smartly a city man . His manner is
easy and charming: everything he does is invested with consideration and enthusiasm . This is a
sharp contrast to Manus, who is introduced as pale faced, lightly built, intense, and works as an
unpaid assistant... His clothes are shabby; and when he moves we see that he is lame . Thus,
Hugh is socially prejudiced, due to social class and political opinion. Any request or interjection
by Owen is seen positively by Hugh, such as when Owen asks his father if he is interrupting and
if he can bring them in , Hugh replies certainly . The change in attitude puts Hugh in a bad light,
because if he wants to be a successful societal patriarch, he needs to assume control over Owen
and the English. The introduction of the English doesn t seem to affect Hugh in anyway, as he
remains his usual self, not possessing any desire to become a dominant figure. He still gets
continuously drunk and is so preoccupied with his own importance, that he shows no interest in
major figures such as William Wordsworth. Wordsworth ...no. I m afraid were not familiar with

Essay On Over Criminalization
So what exactly is over criminalization? In technical terms it is the act of imposing unbalanced
penalties with no relation to the gravity of the offense committed or the culpability of the wrong
doer. In other words, the United states is excessively using and misusing the statutes of criminal
law. This is to include unnecessary criminal statutes such as those in the business realm. For
example, transporting orchids without proper paper work or failure to ship lobster tail in
plastic bags. The most redundant one is the failure to return a library book. Laws in today s
society are here to protect us as a whole as well as maintain order in this country. However, we
have an innumerable amount of laws, mostly old laws, that serve no purpose in this new world
we live in. These laws are ones most of us have never even heard of because they are rarely
enforced. As a result, these statutes can legally be implemented this... Show more content on

The Pros And Cons Of Securitization
Structured asset securitization is the process through which various types of non liquid assets
such as residential mortgages, account receivables, auto loans and credit card debt obligations are
sold to a special purpose vehicle ( SPV ), which uses the pool of assets as collateral for the
issuance of securities to investors (Fabozzi, 2013). During an asset securitizationissue, one of the
central elements is that repayment depends primarily on the principal and interest cash flows from
SPV s underlying assets, and not on the overall financial strength of the parent company or
originator (Fabozzi, 2013; Riachi Schwienbacher, 2015; Vink Thibeault 2007). According to Vink

By achieving bankruptcy remoteness , firms commit to more efficient investment decisions in
bankruptcy (Ayotte Gaon, 2010). In addition, this practice together with other credit enhancement
mechanisms, generally allow the new securities issued to obtain higher ratings from credit agencies
including risk free levels. A number of studies have concluded that securitization has various
positive implications. For instance, some empirical studies show that securitization creates value by
increasing liquidity, reducing credit and improving leverage ratios (Amrose, Lacour Little, Sanders,
2005). According to Riddiough (2011), and it can alleviate market failure, and increase competition
and borrower choice. In their study, Altunbas et al (2009) show how banks capacity to supply new
loans has been strengthened by the securitization activity. In addition, another advantage of
securing assets is that funding costs can be reduced because the securities issued can match better
the risk return preferences of investors (Aiyar et al,

Health Risks From The Coal Ash Spill
Ultimately, Dr. Shea found very little actual health risks from the coal ash spill. According to Dan
Way, Dr. Shea reported that short term toxic harm resulted from the spill, and that there were only
isolated cases of coal ash contaminating groundwater (2014). However, there was agreement that
long term monitoring was necessary at the Dan River to assess longer term damages.
Additionally, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a response update to assess
potential impacts to human and aquatic life (2014). The method the EPA employed was to analyze
surface water and sediments for contaminants and compare those results to its screening levels. To
assess impact to human health, the EPA compared the sediment data to health risk screening levels
and compared drinking water samples to Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) as well as to other
indicators. Overall, the EPA found those levels found in sediment data and water samples to not
exceed human health screening levels and thus determined that there wasn t significant risk to
human health, although the EPA did recommend that people do not come in direct contact with coal
ash as it could still pose health risks. These findings were consistent with that of Dr. Shea.
Secondarily, the EPA compared the sediment data and water samples to ecological risk based
screening levels. In this study, the EPA did find some levels to exceed ecological screening levels
in both the sediment data and water samples. The action that the

Jesus s Return And The Time Of Revelation
We are of course waiting for Jesus s return, or the time of revelation. The study of Jesus s coming,
and the other last things, heaven, hell, judgement, etc., is called eschatology. Eschatology starts
with some tensions, just as many theological topics and studies do. These tensions do not come
from different doctrinal parties differing in opinion though, they come from the very nature of
revelation it self. It all stems from the phrases already and not yet. Already covers what has already
happened in the present tense regarding the life of Jesus, and continues to the very moment we are
alive. This contrasts with the not yet phrase because not yet looks much further into the future.
It looks at the reality of the coming kingdom of God, and its power. We are able to find our beliefs
in the middle of these two realities. It is here where we continue the works of Jesus while waiting
for the coming of the kingdom. Now is where we spread the word of God for the future revelation.
So by working now for what will come in the future defines our doctrines and who we are as
Christians in our day to day lives. After speaking of Jesus it is logical to discuss the Holy Spirit
after, given that the Holy Spirit is sent by Jesus the Son of God. The Holy Spirit is as I just said,
sent by the Son, and proceeds from the Father God. Given these two facts the Holy Spirit is not to
be lessened to a mere attribute of the Father and Son. Along with being likened to being a part of

cultures can get away with in in their country but not in Texas or the U.S.

The Cruelty Of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
The inclination to belong in a group or society is naturally present in all humans. We, as a species,
want to belong somewhere or with someone. Even though, we understand the struggle of fitting,
we, as humans still persecute others for not being similar to us. All in all, the exclusion is a form of
bullying. In her novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley exemplifies this phenomena of human behavior,
when she shows the maltreatment that Frankenstein s monster is given for his unattractive physical
features and what he does to terminate his isolation. Victor Frankenstein engulfed in the dedication
of creating a god like image of himself creates a monster. Upon its creation, the monster s entire
perception of the world was around Victor Frankenstein resembling an infant perceiving its
surroundings through its parents. Victor was the monster s father . The monster tried to learn more
information on its creator by staring at Victor Frankenstein laid out on the bed. The monster is
displaying the behaviors of the attachment theory. All of us have a predisposition to instinctively
and immediately seek to attach ourselves to someone who will keep us safe (Lines 51). Victor
Frankenstein is the first one who outcasts the monster. Victor shuns the monster for being hideous,
from the moment he is resurrected. His aspirations of a creature worth admiring was plunged down
the drain. Ostracized by Victor Frankenstein, the monster left the humble abode of Frankenstein.

The Secret Life Of Bees Character Analysis
Many people can have a more than one mother. Whether they are blood related or not, they can
have all the traits a mom has to someone. Black Mary, for example, is a mother figure to many
people in the novel, The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd. The Secret Life of Bees was set
in 1965. The novel, written by Sue Monk Kidd, mostly talks about a coming of age process with
the main character, Lily Owens as she grows up. She learns about the love, family, and Black Mary.
Black Mary is a major piece to the novel for she is one of the reasons that Lily developed as a

theme, which is people can have family even though they are not related by blood.
The symbol, Black Mary is significant to the novel as a whole since she gives people comfort and
strength. In the novel, The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd, August told Lily a story about
how Black Mary will stand in for someone until they come back when she said, Do you
remember the nun Beatrix, who ran away? What do you mean? the sister said. The nun Beatrix
didn t run away. Why there she is over near the altar, sweeping. Well, you can imagine how this
floored the real Beatrix. She marched over to the sweeping woman to get a look at her and
discovered it was none other than Mary. Mary smiled at Beatrix, then led her back to her room
and gave her back her nun outfit, (Kidd 91). While Beatrix was away, Mary was standing

п»їWould it be correct to say that in Tom Jones, Fielding...
Would it be correct to say that in Tom Jones, Fielding considers marriage to be a mere socio
economic arrangements under which women feel continuously suppressed? Discuss.
The true history of the English countryside has been centred throughout in the problems of property
in land, and in the consequent social and working relationships. By the eighteenth century, nearly
half of the cultivated land was owned by some five thousand families. As a central form of this
predominance, four hundred families, in a population of some seven or eight million people, owned
nearly a quarter of the cultivated land.
In a society stressing male dominance, it is surprising to find an author who writes his female
characters as more intelligent than and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through all these examples of marriage, Fielding is urging us to question the current institution of
marriage and what it is based on.
The plot of Tom Jones is based on the desire to link by marriage the two largest estates in
Somersetshire: the proposed marriage of Sophia Western to Blifil is conceived for this end; her
marriage to Tom Jones, when he is eventually revealed as Allworthy s true heir, achieves what had
formerly, for personal reasons, been rejected.
Throughout Tom Jones, Fielding criticizes the perversion of love by the upper class, homo social
system of property marriage.
The last part of the novel shows a convergence between hero and heroine, after their alienation in
the inn at Upton. But the property marriage plot is complicated by the sexual corruptions of
London, which threaten to capture both Tom and Sophia, though in different ways seduction for
Tom, force for Sophia.
Sophia is both threatened by her father (as before) and in need of his protection against the
aristocratic amorality of Lady Bellaston and Lord Fellamar. She gains in stature by becoming much
more than just a maiden in distress, but one who can manipulate too, in the interests of virtue.
Lord Fellamar wants sexual possession of Sophia, and also her ВЈ80,000; Lady Bellaston wants to
get rid of a rival for Tom s services. Lord Fellamar will rape Sophia, then make

Blockbuster History Films Essay
History films have often been criticised by academics and journalists as inaccurate depictions of the
past. Yet there is no denying the fact that blockbuster history films are increasingly influential in
shaping our understanding of historical people and events thanks to the accessibility of the
medium. Producers of these films often take liberties with facts to tell a more dramatic, engaging
and entertaining story. They have a basis in truth but are greatly influenced by the writers and
directors desire to envelop the audience in the story and to entertain. They focus the visual and
auditory senses of the viewer on the subject being studied creating a stimulating and forceful impact
on the viewer, therefore engaging their interest.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Historically, Martin is loosely tied to the Continental Army Officer Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox
, along with four other historical figures. Francis Marion was notoriously known for his use of
guerrilla tactics against British troops in South Carolina, something which is presented historically
accurate in the film. The Patriot has inspired a new resurgence in research into the American
Revolution; raising the public awareness of what has become an almost mythical war, and creates an
opportunity for teachers and students to gain a deeper understanding of the era. In some aspects,
director Roland Emmerich historically replicated events accurately. The film also accurately
portrays why the American Revolution started within the opening sequence of the film; that being
the revolt against british taxation without any American representation. The American Revolution
came about, fundamentally, because by 1763 the English speaking communities on the far side of
the Atlantic had matured to an extent that their interests and goals were distinct from those of the
ruling classes in the mother country. However, despite the historical accuracies, the film depicts
various inaccurate characteristics such as some states offering freedom to African Americans
serving in the war for a period of three years. The film suggests that the War of Independence was a
liberating experience for African Americans and also that the field

Fast Car Tracy Chapman Poetic Techniques
The song Fast Car by Tracy Chapman revolves around who we assume is Chapman, or another
first person point of view, and their lover. They both are itching to get out of the town they re
living in and move to the city. Chapman ends up coming to terms and accepting her situation in the
city, while her lover is the opposite. In Fast Car, Chapman uses juxtaposition and subtle changes in
her repetition to convey the idea that the feeling of escape is fleeting unless you actively work to
make the best of your situation. In the song, the speaker is Chapman herself, or a character she has
created. They seem to be talking to the antagonist, her partner, but it s not clear whether she s
talking to them face to face or not. The whole song is about their elopement from their old town to
the city, and them either coming to terms with their new life or still not being satisfied. This would

The people of Peru are the kindest and heart warming people on the planet. In my journeys across

understand the people of the places that I travel too. The easiest place that I have found to obtain
that connection has been in Peru. Another thing that many Americans talk about is that they are
unsure about the ease of travel in Peru. There seems to be a concern about finding guides and
navigating successfully. The simple answer to that question is that there are numerous outfitters
that specialize in taking Americans across the country and trekking in all of the most beautiful

other attractions that make trekking Peru a world class destination. The Inca site of Choquequirao

The BRIDGE trial, conducted by Douketis and associates,1 was a randomized, multicenter, double
blind, placebo controlled trial that questioned the need for anticoagulation bridging in patients with
atrial fibrillation, who are undergoing an invasive procedure that requires interruption of warfarin
therapy. The primary efficacy outcome was arterial thromboembolism, which includes stroke,
transient ischemic attack, and systemic embolism, whereas the secondary efficacy outcomes were
acute myocardial infarction, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and death. The primary
and secondary safety outcomes were major and minor bleeding, respectively. Patients eligible for
this trial must have been 18 years or older, had chronic atrial fibrillationor flutter, been on warfarin
therapy for at least 3 months, had an international normalized ratio (INR) of 2.0 to 3.0, were
undergoing an elective invasive procedure that required discontinuation of warfarin therapy, and

significantly higher risk of major (p=0.005) and minor ( 0.001) bleeding than the placebo group.

Analysis Of The C C s Management
Executive Summary:
Calyx and Corolla (C C) is a company started by Ruth M. Owades in 1988, which delivers fresh
flowers to the customers using courier service Federal Express. Customers can choose from a
wide range of fresh flowers and bouquets and make an order via phone or fax and get it delivered
to their houses. During 1990, it had consummated over 150k transactions, yielding revenues in
excess of $10 million. C C was exceptionally promising yet it s still a partly proven, start up
company. The main challenges that C C is facing are competition with traditional flowerselling
outlets, less customer base that order flowers via mail. The company should determine whether it
should change its current strategy and position itself as a mail operation to compete with the
traditional outlets, such as florists and FTDs. Specifically, the C C s management is planning a
major advertising campaign to go head to head against FTDs. Its problem is that it is not clear who
their customers should be? As a small company, it needs to figure out the best way to use its limited
marketing resources to reach potential customers.
Goal and goal defense:
C C is a small player in a large market that has remarkable growth potential. As a company, C C
has enjoyed substantial success since its beginnings in 1988. The goal of the company is to

Analyzing Erikson s Psychosocial Theories
Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Theory places everyone into stages, from the days where they still

stages.
With me being 18 years old, I am placed into the Identity vs. Role Confusion stage. According to

Why I Want To Go To Chinese Immigration Essay
I m an American born Chinese woman who loves an adventure. Exploring new places and
learning about my heritage is the reason why I want to go to China, since I ve never traveled

Project Scope Of A Graduate Curriculum
Problem Statement
Recommendations by the WHO, 2011 and AACN, 2012 have supported implementation of a
graduate curriculum that will educate trainees on quality improvement initiatives that include
topics on near misses, factors surrounding errors and error management in the clinical setting. In the
College of Nursing, nurse anesthesia department, there is no designated educational module
addressing this recommendation.
The concern with not educating trainees before graduation is that incident and near misses tend to
remain underreported because of the perpetuating negative culture surrounding error reporting. This
in turn hinders learning from the event and stifles growth toward voluntary sharing of broken
processes and system failures (Barnsteiner, 2011). The current focus on Quality Improvement is to
provide high reliable care with little to zero risks by including the combined and unceasing efforts
of everyone healthcare professionals, patients and their families, researchers, payers, planners and
educators to make changes that will lead to better patient outcomes (health), better system
performance (care) and better professional development (IHI, 2015).

The Popularity Of Dystopian Novels
Dystopian literature has risen in popularity in recent times because the novels have significant
meaning when being compared to the events of today and appeal to almost all young adults.
They embrace modern ideas that inspire teenagers to make a change and explore who they are.
First of all, dystopian novels are frequently being compared to current events and problems. This
causes the novels to have a similar emotional effect on people to the feelings people experience
in everyday life. Because so many of the problems in dystopian novels compare to the problems
in regular people s lives, the books have a very appealing nature. This is because they present the
same problems people encounter in everyday life, but offer a solution and make the impossible
suddenly very possible. Readers compare these books to the real world which makes them feel
empowered and able to make a change.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This interests young adults because their feelings are often displayed in the novels such as
pressure to conform, and anger at the unfairness of the world they live in. Young adults are often
still exploring who they want to be and these novels allow them to explore different characters
that often have a similar set of values to who they want to be. Therefore, dystopian novels are
very relatable to teens and can be metaphorically related to life. The rich and mean characters are
often compared to the popular kids and high school and propaganda to social media manipulation.
But most importantly, dystopian novels encourage young adults to choose who they want to be
and make a difference in the world. They give teenagers advice on how to find themselves and
how it is normal to be different in some

wanting to come forward. One soldier stated that those who came forward with symptoms of
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) feared ridicule. PTSD is very stigmatized, especially in
the military, where it is stated that coming forward with symptoms of PTSD could be considered

Theme Of The Lionet In Romeo And Juliet
During the seven years Shakespeare attended King Edward VI Grammar School, he read the
infamous Pyramus and Thisbe written by Ovid. Shakespeare later wrote the most well known,
relatable and timeless play of all time, Romeo and Juliet. The ill fated stories about the death
marked love between two love struck teenagers, are far too similar to ignore. Beneath the surface
of love, betrayal, death and memorable lessons lies an abundance of symbolism. Of the many, there

The Importance Of Public Transportation
1.Tuesday, September 26, 2017 Today I took the SEPTA regional rail to work this morning.
While walking down the row of seats I found myself searching for the seat without trash, or holes
in the seat. While on my train ride I noticed by surroundings. The vast amount of different people
on the train amazed me. There was an elderly gentleman on my right, and in the seat in front of me
was a man who did not have the most pleasant scent. Noticing people eating, coughing, or sleeping
and drooling on the window I quickly came to the realization of how many germs are on this train.
Things such as public transportplay a role in public healthsignificantly. With all of the germs on
public transportation people can pick up things easily. For example, the measles outbreak that was
in Disney World, could be picked up through public transportation. People touching poles, seats,
could pose the risk of spreading many communicable diseases. I personally do not believe that
public transportation does a great job in the sanitation department. However, on the flip side public
transportation is also beneficial to public health. According to the APHA people located near major
highways and road ways have an increase in respiratory illness due to the amount of pollution.
Therefore, by taking public transportation such as the train, or subway this reduces the amount of
pollution causes by cars, trucks, and other vehicles on the road.

another individual to see who could release the spacebar the quickest after a visual prompt (King
Mugge, 2008). The researchers results of high and low provocation of competiveness and of its
possible effects of aggressive behavior on bullied individuals and violent video games concluded
that when provoked, participants showed an increase in aggressive behavior due to the higher

What Does Maine Mean To Me Essay
I may be an elected senator for the great state of Maine, but one of the best experiences in my life
was simply growing up in Hancock county on the edges of Acadia National Park. I would venture
into Bar Harbor sometimes to watch the fisherman bring in the day s findings and see how excited
the tourists were to go whale watching. Just walking around, people watching as I liked to do, I
learned a lot about our states industries and what made the economy thrive, the other crazy, lucky
inhabitants of our beautiful state, and the issues that plagued it, too. The MaineI grew up in is not
the same state that I represent today, which is why I ran for this office in the first place. I know
Maine. I love Maine. Everything I do, is in the best interest of Maine.
The demographic makeup of our state has changed dramatically over the last couple decades. Our
population is getting older, transitioning out of the work force and child bearing years.
Individuals under 18 and between the ages of 50 and 64 are the predominant age groups and the
young citizens we do have are not enough to replace the baby boomer generation. Our state s
population is growing ever so slightly, but it is due to migration into the state, evident by our death
rate eclipsing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I want to make it more inclusive of those that need it. I see people in this state and in my
hometown suffering every day and I cannot bare to look at them without trying to make a
difference and do what is in their best interest. I want to rid ourselves of the stockpile that LaPage
has amassed. I want to watch the percentage of those in poverty decrease, not increase. However,
in order to do that, I have a different plan of allocation. Rather than direct cash assistance, I want
our welfare system to focus on food assistance programs, utility subsidies, benefits to those pursuing
higher education, and daycare

Essay about J. Alfred Prufrock
J. Alfred Prufrock is He Gay When we read T. S. Eliot s The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock you
almost get the feeling that Prufrock is gay. In fact, when the story is read a bit more in depth you
can conclude that he is gay.
The first flag that is raised to our attention of prufrock being gay is the fact that not once do we
hear the name of his so called lover or even him calling her a lady. Therefore we might be able to
conclude that this lady is in fact a guy. This would in turn bring up many situations in the story that
are not brought to light if this story was read in different text.
Prufrock is very insecure about himself. This is especially seen in the first ten lines. He is insecure
when he talks of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He wants to murder the mask that he is wearing. He wants to come out and then recreate himself.
However, when the first realization of his homosexuality comes to mind Prufrock starts second
guessing himself. In lines thirty one through thirty four we see this in decisiveness. Prufrock then
starts thinking of his appearance if he were to let this be known. He thinks about how his perfect
world is not ready for a idea of this magnitude to come forth. Prufrock knows that if his
homosexuality was to be known, the perfect universe that he knows would the destroyed.
At first glance lines forty nine through sixty one seem to be about him wanting death. This,
however, is not the case. Furthermore, we see him asking himself what he should do if he does
come out and tell people of his sexuality. He is weighing the possibilities and the reprocutions of
his decision. He finnaly comes to the conclusion that evrything is alright now and he does not
want to disturb this peacfulness. Line eighty seven clearly tells us that he did not come out. Yet he
is also second guessing his decision. No, he tells himself, it would not have been worth his own
morality to ruin everyones perfect picture of himself. Prufrock would miss the boring events, or
would he?
In truth, we find that Prufrock would have rather told the truth about his homosexuality. But, we
find that he is insecure about himself. With his lack of insecurity

The first time we kissed, I didn t even know your name. Til now I can t explain why I didn t ask for it. You wouldn t leave me alone after that. The first time I dreamed of you, I woke up crying; begging to not see you again. In vain. We started dating a little later. And the every night crying stopped. • 3. Ridley Scott s Blade Runner Essay Ridley Scott s Blade Runner In 1982 Ridley Scott s movie Blade Runner was quietly released and received mixed reviews7. As time passed the movie s fan base expanded and today, many consider it to be one of the greatest science fiction movies of all time. Numerous people consider it Harrison Ford s greatest acting role, which, considering the competition consisting of Han Solo and Indiana Jones, is no small feat. Originally, critics missed or were confused by the philosophical questions the movie posed but as more people saw it, the movie s brilliance was gradually realized. The questions Blade Runner posed about the future of computer intelligence were far ahead of their time. A major issue of the movie is that, if AI ever became... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After four replicants escape slavery on an off world colony and kill Deckard s replacement when he investigates their attempted break in of Tyrell Corporation headquarters, the chief of police forces Deckard out of retirement to solve the problem . To understand why these replicants wanted to break into Tyrell Corporation it is necessary to explain the structure and creation of replicants. Replicants are similar in appearance to humans in every conceivable way. However, they are stronger both mentally and physically, also having superior reaction skills and the inability to feel pain. The structure of the replicant brain is very similar to the human brain. Replicants have above average intelligence and feel emotions in the same way that people do. They are all capable of love, hatred, anger, jealousy and remorse (all exhibited throughout the movie). To safeguard against the possibility of replicants replacing humans as the dominant species, Doctor Eldon Tyrell, head of Tyrell Corporation, programmed a precautionary 4 year lifespan into the replicant mind. A commentary on Schnittker and Karandinos he addresses the article made by Schnittker and Karandinos about the progression of pharmaceuticals and whether or not we have advanced enough to significantly increase our life expectancy. Lexchin uses a plethora of rhetoricto persuade the reader into believing his argument, mostly relying upon logos, chiefly facts, to appeal to the logical and sensible side of the readers. His argument is not limited to logos though, as there are faint traces of pathos, the longing to live forever, as well as ethos, society s needs for further advances, to further convince the reader.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an extremely powerful tool, as when one sees numbers such as the ones previously stated, that look very logical, it is hard not to believe them. Unconvinced that we really will be saved by innovation , Lexchin continues to describe the results of an experiment done involving the treatments of patients with similar underlying conditions by both Canada and the United States. The results of which, favoured Canada, which leads to some very difficult questions; if the US has considerably greater care units than Canada, as well as a higher NME approval rate, why is the life expectancy higher? While throwing logic at us from every angle, Lexchin also manages to appeal to our deeper desires. He plays on humans yearning for eternal youth and immortality, as well as our fear of death. Immortality is a common goal of society and Lexchin uses is as a tool to get the reader to listen to his argument. With a respectable argument against the idea of pharmaceutical advances eventually leading to immortality, Lexchin uses multiple forms of rhetoric, mostly logos, to sway the readers. He sets our deep fantasies of someday being able to live forever against our rational minds and backs up his case with sound logic and viable examples that leave us no doubts about human limitation. ... Everyone has a fear of something in life; whether it s spiders, snakes, public speaking, exams or even heights. However, a teen s most common fear is isolation. Isolation is when you feel alone or separated from other people. Many teenagers today fear isolation because of the experience of losing a friend, straining familyrelationships, and struggling to fit in. In this assignment, I will compare and contrast my experiences in the different areas of downtown Vancouver, as well as discuss the knowledge I gained from this field trip. I started my tour at Waterfront Station by taking the SeaBus, a ferry connecting the city centre with North Vancouver. Starting in chapter five and throughout the rest of the novel, we see the hostility of the two groups. The Eloi hate the dark because of the Morlocks. The Morlocks terrorize and eat the Eloi as portrayed by the Time Traveller. Upon finding this out, the Time Traveller jumps to the conclusion that the Morlocks are bad. In fact, the Eloi had it coming to them, they dealt a dirty blow and they received a bigger one. Wells used his knowledge to interpret what would happen if one group was given the upper hand for too long. It s only natural for the Morlocks to retaliate, and this nature is why equality is never attainable. Although the two groups are depicted as enemies, they are equal in certain ways. Both groups were given a chance to excel and it happened at different times. The Morlocks were able to assess the situation, and given there opportunistic origins, were able to make the best of it. She is required to wear a scarlet A on her dress to shame her. She must stand on the scaffold for three hours, to be exposed to public humiliation. As Hester approaches the scaffold, many of the women in the crowd are angered by her beauty and quiet dignity. The Scarlet Letter written by Nathanial Hawthorne centers on sin, identity and society. The meaning of the A in the Scarlet Letter is meant to mean Adulterer . The meaning is not definite, the A meaning rather ambiguous is taken to mean what the person wants it to mean, equivocally it can be said that the meaning(s) of the A mirrors the beliefs and thoughts of its onlookers. But if one were to weigh out the positives and negatives of Andrew Jackson s presidency, one would realize that his positives outweigh his negatives for a variety of historic facts. Andrew Jacksonwas a good president because he represented the majority of America s people by being a common, prevented a civil war when South Carolina threatened to secede from the nation, and because he technically found or instigated the two major parties used in America today (Democratic and Republican). Jackson is very important because he created or instigated the two dominant political parties we use today (democratic and republican). The beliefs in these parties switched several times in history but initially Jackson was a democrat. The major beliefs in democrats in the 1820s 1850s were the beliefs in a small national government, pro states rights, and a strict interpretation of the constitution. The republicans (initially known as the Whigs) essentially opposed all of Jackson s beliefs and therefore had more or less the complete opposite beliefs of the democrats. By starting these two political parties, he started the way people would categorize political candidates throughout the rest of American history. There are many who are against Andrew Jackson because he is a hypocrite. An example of this is how Jackson states he is against slavery but still owned slaves. One has to understand that America was founded on hypocrisy. Essentially what Jackson is trying to do is to make compromises on situations so he can support both sides of an argument to represent as many people as possible. Conclusively Jackson was a great president because he represented the people of America by being a common man, overcame huge obstacles such as keeping South Carolina from seceding, and by forming the two most popular political parties used in America today, the Democrats and the Republicans. According to Dan Way, Dr. Shea reported that short term toxic harm resulted from the spill, and that there were only isolated cases of coal ash contaminating groundwater (2014). However, there was agreement that long term monitoring was necessary at the Dan River to assess longer term damages. Additionally, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a response update to assess potential impacts to human and aquatic life (2014). The method the EPA employed was to analyze surface water and sediments for contaminants and compare those results to its screening levels. To assess impact to human health, the EPA compared the sediment data to health risk screening levels and compared drinking water samples to Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) as well as to other indicators. Overall, the EPA found those levels found in sediment data and water samples to not exceed human health screening levels and thus determined that there wasn t significant risk to human health, although the EPA did recommend that people do not come in direct contact with coal ash as it could still pose health risks. These findings were consistent with that of Dr. Shea. Secondarily, the EPA compared the sediment data and water samples to ecological risk based screening levels. • 15. Jesus s Return And The Time Of Revelation We are of course waiting for Jesus s return, or the time of revelation. The study of Jesus s coming, and the other last things, heaven, hell, judgement, etc., is called eschatology. Eschatology starts with some tensions, just as many theological topics and studies do. These tensions do not come from different doctrinal parties differing in opinion though, they come from the very nature of revelation it self. It all stems from the phrases already and not yet. Already covers what has already happened in the present tense regarding the life of Jesus, and continues to the very moment we are alive. This contrasts with the not yet phrase because not yet looks much further into the future. It looks at the reality of the coming kingdom of God, and its power. We are able to find our beliefs in the middle of these two realities. It is here where we continue the works of Jesus while waiting for the coming of the kingdom. Now is where we spread the word of God for the future revelation. So by working now for what will come in the future defines our doctrines and who we are as Christians in our day to day lives. After speaking of Jesus it is logical to discuss the Holy Spirit after, given that the Holy Spirit is sent by Jesus the Son of God. • 24. Fast Car Tracy Chapman Poetic Techniques The song Fast Car by Tracy Chapman revolves around who we assume is Chapman, or another first person point of view, and their lover. They both are itching to get out of the town they re living in and move to the city. Chapman ends up coming to terms and accepting her situation in the city, while her lover is the opposite. In Fast Car, Chapman uses juxtaposition and subtle changes in her repetition to convey the idea that the feeling of escape is fleeting unless you actively work to make the best of your situation. In the song, the speaker is Chapman herself, or a character she has created. They seem to be talking to the antagonist, her partner, but it s not clear whether she s talking to them face to face or not. The whole song is about their elopement from their old town to the city, and them either coming to terms with their new life or still not being satisfied. The main challenges that C C is facing are competition with traditional flowerselling outlets, less customer base that order flowers via mail. The company should determine whether it should change its current strategy and position itself as a mail operation to compete with the traditional outlets, such as florists and FTDs. Specifically, the C C s management is planning a major advertising campaign to go head to head against FTDs. Its problem is that it is not clear who their customers should be? As a small company, it needs to figure out the best way to use its limited marketing resources to reach potential customers. In the College of Nursing, nurse anesthesia department, there is no designated educational module addressing this recommendation. The concern with not educating trainees before graduation is that incident and near misses tend to remain underreported because of the perpetuating negative culture surrounding error reporting. The Popularity Of Dystopian Novels Dystopian literature has risen in popularity in recent times because the novels have significant meaning when being compared to the events of today and appeal to almost all young adults. They embrace modern ideas that inspire teenagers to make a change and explore who they are. First of all, dystopian novels are frequently being compared to current events and problems. This causes the novels to have a similar emotional effect on people to the feelings people experience in everyday life. Because so many of the problems in dystopian novels compare to the problems in regular people s lives, the books have a very appealing nature.
