The document outlines a personal growth model for Agile coaches. It discusses the importance of continuous growth and improvement. The model defines levels of competency for Lean/Agile practitioners from competent to master. Coaches assess themselves on skills like coaching, facilitating, teaching and mentoring. They identify areas for growth and turn them into action items. The overall goal is to enable self-sufficient, collaborative teams through promoting a growth mindset.

I want to share something personal today. A story of mine and people that I’ve been working with for the last 2 years. People that I can easily call friends now.
I believe that growth and learning are the are the key drivers in both, professional and personal life. It’s great when you capable to observe it. I would like to ask you to close your eyes for a second. Remember your childhood, the first time you learned how to drive a bike, learned how to swim. How exciting was that, how many new things you’ve learned since then. Let’s take a look into professional life. How many new, things you’ve learned and combined different knowledge in last 5,10, 15 years. How does the growth reflect in our teams and companies? The better I get as an individual the better are the chances that my team succeeds are higher. The better my team is, the more chances our company has to build great products or bring more customers. Good news that the ability to have an impact is in our hands. We can make even multiply the impact we have by enabling others. It’s obvious that before supporting others we have to be in a good shape by ourselves. Become living example of growth and learning.

The storyHere’s how it all started at Typeform. We were team of Agile Coaches, looking for a way to help fast growing startup to scale, collaborate and deliver value. Working all kinds of teams Product, Leadership. Business as usual. There is a famous Ted talk by Simon Senek Start with WHY? Simon is talking about importance of having a purpose. We asked the questions ourselves. Why are we here @Typeform as Agile Coaches? Purpose and impact. We found a statement that was good enough to start with. Enable Typeform to adapt and embrace change by promoting a mindset of continuous improvement. In other words, is doesn’t matter where the company is today, the thing we care about the most that it’s getting better. This is really inspirational but how it reflect to our day to day work. Self-sufficient, healthy teams that collaborate and deliver value continuously.
We know the path, we know our direction. What is our fuel? The better we get, the more value we can create for our company. We focus on our growth to improve our value delivery.

How can we define the path for our Growth? We were exploring different models like Medium growth model or Songkick. As it happens most of the times the most useful things are right next to you found Agile Coach Competency Framework developed by Agile Coaching Institute. That was a good start, unfortunately it was not enough. Again we asked ourselves some powerful questions, how do we know where we are today and where we want to be?We took the model and adjusted it based on our needs. We identified 4 levels for each competency which represent a specific skill set and abilities. Competent, Proficient, Expert and Master. Here is an example how does it look like. Facilitation and Agile-Lean
Level 1: I have exposure to the Lean/Agile way of working and can support team on daily-basis.
Level 2: I am to read context of the team and adapt to people and the environment at that moment, living the Agile mindset and striving for continuous improvement.
Level 3: I deeply understand the underlying values, principles and practices and can quickly assess a situation and zoom in on core aspects.
Level 4: I’m recognized influencer in Agile community and continue innovating in Agile ways or working

This framework is not perfect and it’s not supposed to be. This a tool that we found helpful to shape for our personal growth. In our day to day work we’re easily dragged into this cycle assignments, tasks or deadlines. It is believed that the more or the longer we do things, the more value we create. But is it always the case?. I’ve seen people who had shown significant growth in short amount of time and I was amazed. What’s their recipe? They admitted that the skills, the strengths they have might not be enough. They stopped for a second. They identified the most important needs around them. and got the skills to maximize chances of having great impact in their teams or organizations.
