Narration
By its nature, film is a visual medium, which makes a first person story difficult to tell. To have
Scout narrating throughout the film as she does in the book would prove distracting, so Scout as
narrator is only presented to set the mood of a scene in the film. As a result, viewers don t get a
strong sense of Scout s first person narration as they do in the book; instead, they simply notice the

We decided to keep movies in the dataset that were English and from the USA. We also wanted
to only include movies that were released in USA and abroad. The data we did not need was
filtered out and the data features that were not pre release were removed. When it came to
predicting the worldwide box office revenue, we wanted to use linear regression and SVM. This
was because many researchers had used these techniques. When using linear regression we
realised that our data needed transforming as the linear regression assumptions were violated.
The Box Cox transform we used transformed our dependent variables and worked well. The
assumptions of the linear regression were met. The forward selection procedure used helped
identify which variables were good predictors in the models. Linear regression has certain
assumptions, so in order to not violate those assumptions, it is crucial to pick the best variables
for the model. The best model we found using this procedure met all the assumptions and gave
good prediction accuracies. The results obtained from the linear regression and SVM models
indicated that the accuracies all of the models were very high. Linear regression and SVM
achieved similar results with SVM just slightly achieving better accuracy rates As we were

People will judge others solely based on their physical appearances. In the short story, The Story
of my body, the author, Judith Ortiz Cofer comes to relations with this. She describes how she
was victim of judgment because she was a kid whom looked different than most American kids.
Ortiz Cofer tried to change everything about who she really is just to get by for the day without
being judged. She was labled different, all she ever wanted to do was to be like everyone else. This
eventually led to her being depressed. Within the story, Oritz Cofer describes how terrible she
was treated due to her Puerto Rican heritage and skin color, and how she would never be able to
fit in. Minorities of different complexions get ridiculed and judged for their skin color by many
people every day. In this short story, Ortiz Cofer stated, I was born a white girl in Puerto Ricobut
became a brown girl when I came to live in the United States (Ortiz Cofer 393). This is the first
sentence in the story and it s showing how Cofer was right from the gecko being shunned for
having a different skin complexion. Because her skin color was too pale compared to others, in
Puerto Rico she was being called blanca or gringa. She thought she was a black sheep in her own
home town in Puerto Rico. She assumed her racial problems would end then, but in the U.S
instead of her skin presumably being too light colored, her skin was then considered too dark
colored. Her first racial prejudice racismoccurred when she went to a local grocery store owned by
3 Italian brothers to buy somethings for her mother, which she enjoyed the journey to and back
from the store, in her new hometown, Paterson, New Jersey According to Ortiz Cofer, the mean

his article The Impact of the First World War on African People that During the First World War the
westernized African elite, a product of European missionary schools, was still in its infancy. It

Learning a second language is an issue of immense importance in our contemporary world.
Knowledge of a second language enhances a person s economic potential in the globalized
marketplace. The ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend another language empowers an
individual to exchange ideas across cultural and linguistic barriers. At the center of contemporary
second language acquisition is the learning and teaching of English. Due to the legacy of the British
Empire and the rise of the United States as the world s last remaining superpower, English has
become the main international mode of communication in science, technology, business, diplomacy
and popular entertainment. While educators and students worldwide may agree that learning
English is paramount, many students and teachers struggle with a pragmatic means to achieve this
goal. In this paper, I discuss my pragmatic philosophy of second language acquisition (SLA) based
on existing literature on the topic and my experiences teaching English to second language learners
in Asia and in the United States.

American inventor Edwin H. Land was the driving force behind the Polaroid Corporation s
engineering and marketing successes. He founded the company to manufacture his inventions, such
as polarized windows and sunglasses, and he also produced revolutionary optics for the military
during World War II (1939 45). It was his development of the instant camera, however, that made his
company famous and allowed him to dominate the instant photography market with cameras that

Develops commercial method to polarize light
It had been known since the eighteenth century that certain kinds of crystals (clear colorless
glasses of superior quality) could affect the direction of light waves. In his effort to develop a
method for polarizing light, Land was searching for a crystal that could not only reduce glare but
was stable and economical enough to be produced commercially. He conceived the idea of two
plates that would absorb the light waves that were not wanted and transmit those that were. He
then succeeded in aligning millions of microscopic iodine crystals in one direction, thus creating
the first polarizer. Land presented a paper on his discovery at a physics colloquium (meeting) at
Harvard in February 1932. In June, he left the university, one semester short of a degree, and never
returned.
Invents Polaroid
With a Harvard graduate student named George Wheelwright, who had been one of his teachers,
Land formed Land Wheelwright Laboratories, Inc., in June 1932. The two men worked on
developing methods of manufacturing polarized sheets made of crystals trapped in nitrocellulose
(any of several nitric acid esters of cellulose used for making explosives, plastics, and varnishes).
