Methyl Mercury Research Paper
Minamata was once only a small bay, filled with fish and sea life. Then, in 1932, the Chisso
Corporation of Japan opened a chemical plant in Minamata, dumping their waste into the bay. The
factory they built produced acetaldehyde, a synthetic acid which had many uses, from photography
to scientific research. The factory served a global purpose, exporting the acetaldehyde around the
world, however the side effects of its production were kept local. Acetaldehyde was produced by
Chisso using mercury sulfate as a catalyst (Boston University). The process began with water and
carbide, which were combined to create Acethylene. From here, water and sulfuric mercury were
added, to produce Acetaldehyde and the byproduct of methyl mercury. Through... Show more

It has three main effects. The most prominent, is that it acts as a neurotoxin. It affects the brain and
nervous system of organic beings. The second effect, is that it replaces calcium in bones. This
causes major deformities, and often leads to death. Finally, it is a carcinogen, causing cancer in
most things which come into contact with it. In Minamata Bay, small fish and plants would absorb
the mercury, then be consumed by larger animals. It travelled through the food chain, until it
reached mammals on land. The mercury had undergone biomagnification, where larger animals in
the food chain contain more mercury, because they consume many smaller animals. Soon, large
fish caught by the people of Minamata contained over a million times the amount of mercury found
in the smaller fish (Gilbert, 2004). The methylmercury was soluble in fats, specifically the fats in
fish. This changed the poisonous methylmercury into a lethal toxin, as it would bind with proteins.
People consumed these fish on a regular basis, however so did the much smaller cats. Because the
cats were so much smaller, they showed the effects of the mercury first, jumping erratically, and
often becoming

Persuasive Essay About What You Will Never Go With You
A wise woman once said, I believe that great people do things before they are ready. They do
things before they know they can do it. She also said, Never go to the movies without being
completely stoned. I whole heartledly agree with both. (hahaha just kidding mom) But aside from
that, I love Amy Poehler, and I love Tina Fey. Tina Fey didn t say these things, but I could go on
about quotes from them. During this week I wanted to drop out of school. But then I went and
met with my Student Success Advisor, which is someone who basically helps you plan out your
schooling, and my further education was saved. I left her office on top of the world. I kid you
not, I walked around campus saying in my head, wow, Madie, you are so smart and cool and
funny. You are the whole deal. School is going to fly by and you will be one bad A lawyer. etc...
etc.... I got so motivated, I finished all of my homework, cleaned my whole house, applied for
several jobs, and studied for a philosophy exam. (philosophy sucks by the way) So I thought I
would share some positivity with you. First piece of advice, don t be so hard on yourself. The
mom in E.T. literally had an alien living in her house and didn t notice. The thingthat you may be
going through, you most likely have not been there before. We often jump into things without
knowing what is going to happen next. That doesn t mean we are dumb or stupid or foolish, but
rather brave and daring. You don t know what is going to happen. Every

Mission Control Diary
I performed the initial check on the rocket s systems. All the lights went green, the rocket was
ready and I radioed into Mission Control. Everything s good to go. Give us the countdown when
you re ready. I looked over to Logan and Trevor, who were seated a few feet away and said, I can t
believe this is finally happening! Logan was a thin man with blonde hair. He was the smartest out
of all of us. Trevor was tall and also had blonde hair. I was tall and I had brown hair and brown eyes.
Yep, ever since we went to JPL in highschool, I knew I wanted to go to Mars, Trevor said as he
buckled his safety harness. Trevor had a grin on his face that said more than his words ever could.

We have detected a large energy source in your sector. Can you confirm? Mission Control inquired

Can can we confirm? WE ARE STARING DOWN THE BARREL OF A SPACE LASER! Logan

Maritime Compass Llc Essay
1.How much is the Bet Performer worth based on comparable transactions? What ship is the
best reference transaction? (the closest comparable)? Comparable transaction is a conventional
method of evaluating the value of something that is ready for sale. To value a ship, one had to
identify a set of comparable ships where comparability was based on four main factors: ship
type, size (DWT), age, and condition. The Bet Performer was a 11 year old ship, built in 1997,
172,000 DWT capsize bulk carrier. From the Exhibit 4, there are five ships which are the most
comparable to Bet Performer. They are Martha Verity, Ingenious, Sumihou, Cape Sun, and
Coppersmith. These ships all have the most similar characteristics, in terms of ship type,... Show

This is logical because, larger the ships, more load could they carry, and thus make higher
profits, so are priced higher. Relationship between Age and Ship Price: From the regression, we
find that as the ship ages by one year, the price of the ship drops by $ 4.54 mln. This makes sense
because as with any other vehicle or asset, the efficiency of the ship drops with age. As it gets
older, the carrying value of the ship lowers due to depreciation. Relationship between Charter
rates and Ship Price: With one point increase in the Capesize ship index, there is a slight increase
in the price of the ship by $0.007 mln. The Capesize ships took like a year to build, and are good
for 25 years, after which they are demolished and sold for scrap. The economics of this ship
breaking differed by ship size and type category. So higher this index, higher is the price of the
ship. b.Can you think of other factors that might predict ship prices? Apart from the 4 factors ship
type, DWT, ship age and gears, there are a couple of other factors which affect the ship price.
They are Type of main engine, Confirmed time charter contracts with creditworthy counter parties
Loading equipment (cranes and derricks) Shipyard (original builder) Location (where the ship was
at the time of sale) All these affected the price of the ship, and hence can be used to

The correlation between nonprofits in America and third world countries can vary all over the
board. There are religious nonprofits, nonprofits for the hungry, nonprofits created to raise
awareness on certain issues, you name it there is a project behind the issue determined to better
it. But long ago, Rudyard Kipling saw these works at hand and determined it to be the white man

the Japanese race at this time, which made many Japanese people feel crestfallen. The Japanese
were sent to harsh internment camps with very cramped living spaces. The mess halls provided
grub style food. They were served potatoes instead of rice in the early years of internment, but
many rebelled and finally got rice. Even though they got what they wanted, it was prepared

Unbiased Education In Dystopian Societies
Looking back at the past few years of books, you might notice a pattern: dystopian societies. I m
sure that the entire population has to have at least heard about the Hunger Games, Divergent, or
any number of other titles. Yet, have you ever given any thought whatsoever to imagining
yourself in one of those broken societies? I, for one hadn t thought much about it, despite reading
all of the most recent must reads. It brings up an interesting question: what would you be willing
to stand up for, to risk your life for, to ________ for? After looking around my house and
skimming through my mental history of the world, I decided I would fight for the freedom of
speech, the right to an unbiased education, and freedom of religion. The first thing I would rebel

Of course, this means that I would also rebel for the right to a basic education but I feel more than
that. When I say an unbiased education, I mean one where the student learns facts about the world
around them. They wouldn t be just learning the material a certain group or government wanted
them to learn, but they would know definite, indisputable facts about the world around them. This
is incredibly important because if a person isn t aware of something then how would they be able
to think for himself? I thought of this cause remembering the practices of the Nazis in Hitler Youth
groups. 97% of all teachers were part of the Nazis Teachers Union. These children s entire education
was skewed towards the perfect Germany: Aryan supremacy, lebensraum, anything really. Even the
math problems gave examples that casually mentioned bombing Jews. The important thing here is
that it is the only thing they knew (Nazi Education). Obviously, it is incredibly horrifically, wrong,
but when you learn something from a young age and learn it so completely it s difficult to
recognize that. It is vital that learning remains unbiased and strictly

Characterization Of Duck Viperin And The Natural Reservoir...
Characterization of duck viperin
Introduction:
Ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) and other waterfowl are the natural reservoir of Influenza A virus
(IAV) (Webster et al. 1992). IAV may cross the species barrier from the reservoir species causing
sporadic infections in other avian or mammalian species (Webster et al. 1995). These infections
impose a large burden on human and animal health worldwide leading to economic losses; In
humans, in 2008, 90 million new influenza infections resulted in an estimated 28000 115000
deaths worldwide (Nair et al. 2011), in birds, in 1999, Italy experienced a HPAI epidemic caused
by an H7N1 virus subtype. In total 16 million birds were culled and the estimated loss was about
€ 507 million, with € 112 million in direct losses and € 395 million in consequential losses
(Sartore et al. 2010). Ducks often display little to no disease symptoms after IAV infection. They
stimulate a robust innate immune response when infected with HPAI by up regulating many innate
immune genes (Vanderven et al. 2012). Therefore, characterization of innate immune genes of
ducks, particularly the genes that are upregulated during IAV infection, might give insight into the
relationship between IAV and the innate immune response of ducks, which will help us to control
the virus.
When exposing the mallard ducks to the highly pathogenic IAV (H5N1), there was an upregulation
in some innate immunity genes; one of the highest upregulated gene was viperin (Virus inhibitory

Analysis Of Popular Mechanics By Raymond Carver
In Popular Mechanics by Raymond Carver a man begins packing his things in a suitcase on a
rainy day. His spouse barges into the room and begins to berate him. She moves to the dresser
and picks up a picture of their baby and leaves the room. The man follows they begin fighting
about who gets the baby. As the women holds tightly to the baby, the man backs her into the
kitchen and begins grabbing the child. They both have a tight hold on the child now and are
pulling backwards. The story concludes and it is implied that they have killed the baby. This story s
theme of the selfish and aggressive nature of humansis prevalent throughout the text.
Carvers use of diction sets an eerie and depressing mood. The beginning of the story describes ...

Creating a setting that is dark intensifies the mood of the story. Later in the story, the couple is
physically fighting over the baby: The baby was red faced and screaming (Carver). Having the
vivid image of a distressed baby makes the reader feel compassion for the child. The baby is stuck
in the middle of an argument between two adults and has no choice to leave. These examples of
imagery relate to the theme of selfishness and greed that can overpower a person.
Carver uses very few details in this story to make it more relatable to the reader. For instance,
there are no names given the the man, woman, or child in the story. The absence of this details
lets the reader put themselves in the shoes of the man, woman, or child while reading. There is an
instance or hesitation or uncertainty when the man leaves the bedroom: He fastened the suitcase,
put on his coat, looked around the bedroom before turning off the light (Carver). When the man
looks back to the room, his hesitation implies that he is unsure about what decision to make, but
when he shuts off the light, he is void of all feelings and has decided to fight. A similar situation
happens to the woman in this story: she wiped her eyes and stared at him before turning and
going back to the living room (Carver). When this woman looks at her spouse she is making sure
that she wants to go through with fighting, and when she looks away she is determined to win the
fight. These few details make it clear how selfish

REGRESSION
In statistics, regression analysis is a statistical process for estimating the relationships among
variables. It includes many techniques for modeling and analyzing several variables, when the
focus is on the relationship between a dependent variable and one or more independent variables.
More specifically, regression analysis helps one understand how the typical value of the dependent
variable (or criterion variable ) changes when any one of the independent variables is varied, while
the other independent variables are held fixed.
SIMPLE LINEAR REGRESSION
In simple linear regression, we predict scores on one variable from the scores on a second variable.
The variable we are predicting is called the criterion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The coefficient of determination (denoted by R2) is a key output of regression analysis. It is
interpreted as the proportion of the variance in the dependent variable that is predictable from the
independent variable. Range from 0 to 1.
For example, if r = 0.922, then r 2 = 0.850, which means that 85% of the total variation in y can be
explained by the linear relationship between x and y (as described by the regression equation). The
other 15% of the total variation in y remains unexplained.
Overall Model Fit
Dependent variable: Science Score
Parameter Estimates
math The coefficient for math is .389. So for every unit increase in math, a 0.39 unit increase in
science is predicted, holding all other variables constant. female For every unit increase in
female, we expect a 2.010 unit decrease in the science score, holding all other variables constant.
Because femaleis coded 0/1 (0=male, 1=female), the interpretation is easy: for females, the
predicted science score would be 2 points lower than for males. socst The coefficient for socst is
.050. So for every unit increase in socst, we expect an approximately .05 point increase in the
science score, holding all other variables constant. read The coefficient for read is .335. So for
every unit increase in read, we expect a .34 point increase in the science score.

luxurious lifestyle. Everything was going well for the American people until a tragedy happened.
The economy suddenly dropped, specifically the New York Stock Exchange, and a widespread

worst day that the United States had endured in its stock market history, and for the rest of the
world too. Many causes took place that lead to the stock market crashing. It caused such
devastating tragedies to the country that it was hard to deal with most of the country being in

Anne Bradstreet once wrote, If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did
not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome. This quote summarizes
much of what her and fellow female writer Phillis Wheatley s lives were like during their fights for
social change. Throughout their lives, these women were forced to live through challenges and
injustices on levels that are unimaginable to many of members of today s society. With the

In all of her piece, Bradstreet s main idea that she hopes to convey is that since women have been
such staples in the art for so long that it only makes sense for them to be allowed to still. While
both authors write in ways that express radical ideas for their respective time periods, they were
sure to write in methods that did not serve to be inflammatory to their largely opposing audiences.

Family Guy Analysis
Imagine living a whole life as an American, accustomed to Caucasian practices, confident on the
stability of your home and career and often bragging patriotically. Then your boss decides to
have an inspection, laying off immigrant employees. Going to your mother to ask for your birth
certificate, you find out you were actually born in Mexico. You get laid off and have to work as
a servant for your wife s rich father. This was the case for Peter Griffen, the father and
protagonist in the TV series called Family Guy. While working for Carter Pewterschmidt, his
father in law, he meets another immigrant employee who helps him around the mansion and
gives him some insight on his life. Overall, the episode was a great example of one s view of the
American Dream. Its ideas were also very similar to claims made by an author regarding the
American Dream. Tim Roemer, author of America remains the world s beacon of success ,
argues that America is still prosperous and that, based on his trip overseas, foreigners still view
the U.S as a land of opportunity. Both Roemer s article and the specified episode of Family Guy
serve to demonstrate how people outside of the US still admire the country as a whole, believe
America is the goal for studying and that although other countries are facing devastating challenges,
people can still prosper in the U.S.

argument that the U.S is still admired

Interpreting Nature
Edgar Allen Poe s creation of the detective Le Chevalier C. Auguste Dupin paved the way for
detective stories. ..........................................
One of the main characteristics of successful analysis, as said by Holmes, is the ability to reason
backwards ( A Study in Scarlet ). These views reflect the thoughts of the 17th century philosopher
of science, Sir Francis Bacon. Sherlock also uses the phrase ones ideas must be as broad as nature
if they are to interpret nature. This idea of interpreting nature is also similar to Bacon s views as
Bacon writes about interpreting nature in one of his philosophical works called The Novum

Analysis Of The Book Gold Essay
Gold

Once there was a fine mansion sitting high upon the rugged cliffs of a stormy sea. Falling from
here to the rocky rapids was certainly fatal, and so all the workers of the mansion kept well away
from the creeping cliffs. A parentless young girl lived alone at the estate she was only eight years
old and her name was Irina. She was, of course, an orphan, but the beautiful mansion was kept alive
in her parents wake, at least, that was what the lord had been told, as he sailed his golden ship
across the sea.
For the first time in ages, it seemed, there was to be a visitor to the mansion. He was a wealthy
and powerful yet greedy lord who had done much business with Irina s father. Lord Gifre, as he
was called, was on his way to the mansion that very day. His ship was to arrive in time for an
evening meal.
Irina stared, unblinkingly, through the tiny round window in her old bedroom. The house was
always dark and chilly, so she wore a thick red cloak. Irina brushed her dolls hair as she silently
awaited Gifre s arrival. Soon, she saw the golden mast soar elegantly on the waters from a distance.
The stormy sea churned the approaching ship as Irina watched, the sparkling of jewels illuminating

The National Maritime Museum is a very welcoming place and vide range of information can be
found on their website. There is as well an interactive part were children with an adult help can
make various things like sea monster mask or globe. Many interesting tasks in Make your own
can be done at home but for the children of age 5 8 parents interaction would be needed. While
further looking how this could be brought in to a promises the idea came to mind. Rather than
having the tool in making mask or globe on line children could be doing it at the museum. There
are no complicated tools or objects involved in the process and children would not be proud in
taking an item home and sharing with their friends or siblings. This would as well show to
parents that the museum is not just about looking at the material collected. Children at the age
of 5 8 are particular excited in showing their achievements. The National Maritime Museum
holds pirate day every Wednesday and Friday and there are six sessions between both days. This
shows that there is an interest for schools to organise trips and bring children were they can
become pirates for the day. Young boys and girls are very interested in pirates. As their
imagination is full of excitement it can be further broadened by inviting them to dress up as pirate.
Dressing up as a pirate would give them enjoyment and feeling that they are real characters. They

Gerard In Roxane Gay s Short Story Motherfuckers
Different, confused, annoyed and disrespected are just a few words to describe the main
character Gerard in Roxane Gay s short story Motherfuckers. With Gerard originally being from
Haiti, he and his family are forced to find out that immigrating from another country to America,
can be a completely different transition. Moving from one country to another, immigrants are
forced to adapt. American culture only acknowledges certain kinds of education from other
countries. This causes his father to go from being a journalist in Haiti, to working in a place

Gerard s environmental change from Haiti to America affected how Gerard was treated in school.
Gerard and his family members being mistreated, can spark many things to be brought to a better

Explain why banks sometimes seek to merge with with
Explain why banks sometimes seek to merge with with or acquire other banks or financial
institutions.
Great changes have been experiences in banking industry for the past decades. The most apparent
alter is a mass of bank mergers, which have expanded both the average size of banks and their
territories. Other dramatic changes including the development of Internet banking and the
combination of banking with other financial services, for example, insurance and securities
underwriting are also encountered.

For example, the return on average assets in 2003 for the two merger targets, Bank One and Fleet
Boston, were 1.27% and 1.34%, respectively, while the top 50 bank holding companies averaged
1.28%. This indicates that the recent mega mergers are not motivated by economic weakness but
rather by other economic forces. Major changes in the banking system
One significant phenomenon in the nation s banking system is consolidation. The pace of mergers
had been expedited in the 1990s.
Some of these mergers made full use of new laws permitting banks to spread within and across
state lines. Other mergers were pursued to reduce costs, even though parts to be proven in vain.
Merger activity has decreased in recent days, and some specialists anticipate this is just a
momentary pause. Even if merger activity is unable to climb up to its previous levels, mergers
have influenced banking to some extent. One important effect of the recent merger wave has
been an increase in the role of large banking organizations. The biggest change here has involved
the so called mega banks banks with more than $100 billion of assets. Such banks are much less
important in rural markets than urban markets, but their share of rural deposits still increased
considerably during the 1990s from only 1.7% in mid 1990 to 8.2% in mid 2000. The rural deposit
share of regional and super regional banks ($10 to $100

Hemophilia Essay
Hemophilia A is a disorder in which the blood doesn t clot normally due to the lack of blood
clothing factor VIII. Hemophilia A is also known as the Classic Hemophilia. According to the
CDC, hemophilia will occur in approximately 1 in 5,000 live births. It is called classic
hemophilia due to the fact that this hemophilia is four times more common as hemophilia B. This
disorder is mainly a hereditary bleeding disorder which is caused by an inherited X linked
recessive trait. Some acquired forms do exist as well, largely in older patients, due to
autoantibodies directed against factor VIII. The defected gene is located on the X chromosome.
And it results from a heterogeneous mutation in factor VIII gene that maps for Xq28.
Hemophilia A is more common in males because males have one X and one Y chromosome. Since
a male s DNA contain only one X chromosome, hemophilia affects mostly males. Hemophilia was

The Color White In The Great Gatsby
The American Dream was a prodigious and fascinating objective, in which everyone wished to
accomplish in the 1920 s. Money, social status and happiness was the ideal image. Everyone
desired and craved to achieve this dream in hope to have the opportunity to acquire success and the
image of a perfect life. But this dream was corrupt. In F. Scott Fitzgeralds novel, The Great Gatsby
shows us that the so called American Dream is in fact just an illusion everyone had but could not
obtain, because everyone alway seemed to be missing something to their picture perfect life.
The color green is a critical and significant color in this novel. We see it all over the place, but the

was used everywhere in the book, but there was a little twist to it. It wasn t always what it
seemed, just like the American Dream. They were both in white, and their dresses were rippling
and fluttering as if they had just been blown in after a short flight around the house, (8). This
quote has the character Daisy in it. When we heard Daisy we think of the flower. So delicate and
innocent and full of purity, like the white petals, but once you reach the yellow middle, all she
cares about is her picture perfect image. Daisy isn t what she seems Fitzgerald carefully builds
Daisy s character with associations of light, purity, and innocence, when all s said and done, she

people to look at her the way they look at Gatsby and think to themselves, wow she has it all .
Daisy goes to extreme limits to make her life look as perfect as possible, even if she is completely

The Catholic Church Should Accept That Gay Marriage
The Catholic Church should accept that gay marriage is morally acceptable and doesn t
contradict their beliefs. Gay marriage has been a topic of controversy ever since the 1970 s. May
of 1970 to be exact. Around This time two men named Richard John Jack Baker and James
Michael McConnell in Minnesota applied to Hennepin County District Court clerk Gerald Nelson
for a marriagelicense. They were denied because they both were men. This issue of two people
of the same sex getting married is still a topic of debate to a lot of people even after the U.S.
Supreme court made gay marriage legal in all 50 states in 20151. The Catholic Church teaches to
treat homosexuals with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. That every act of hate, violence, and
persecution toward them is condemned. The Church doesn t view homosexuals no poorly than
they do everyone else but it is their views on marriage that are in question. They believe that all
sexual activity outside of marriage as a sin and an immoral act. So, if we restrict marriage from
homosexuals then if they are in a sexual relationship with another they are in turn an immoral
person. Therefore, the Catholic Church should view gay marriage the same as heterosexual
marriage, with reverence and sanctity. Marriage, also known as the matrimonial covenant, is to
establish a partnership between a man and a woman for the entirety of their lives and which is
ordered by its nature to the good of the spouses and the procreation

Although, Matthew emphasizes Jesus as the authoritative Son of God, such as in Matthew 8:23
28 when Jesus calms the storm. This example should be an influence to the Church to trust and
have more faith in Jesus such as believing that Jesus will help a person through their storms in
their life such as financial needs. For Jesus said to the disciples, You have so little faith, why are
you so afraid? (Richards and Richards). However in Mark, he focuses on the Messianic Secret,
where Jesus tries to keep other unknown to him being the Messiah. Yet, in Mark 8:30, Peter

unique to the Church for it is usually the norm to immediately express ones love for Christ.
However, Jesus is stating that Christianity is more than just the belief in Him; such having faith,
reading the Bible daily, prayer, worship, and congregating with others, to just name a few. Next,
is Luke whose concentration pertains to Cosmopolitan of Jesus. For in Luke 2:30 31, which you

explained how the Mesopotamians saw beer and bread as a way to distinguish those who are
civilized and those who are savages. Standage explains how beer had a great role if the
Mesopotamian culture and how in many cases it was told in their stories and legends. The
Egyptians were not far off the infatuation with beer either. The Egyptians also cherished beer
greatly and was a great deal of importance to them especially because it was used as an offering to
their gods. In both cases beer holds an important value to both societies. Tom Standage explains
the similarities between the Mesopotamian and Egyptian views and values of beer, and how it
affected their religion and culture. Tom Standage describes how beer was greatly engraved in
both Mesopotamian and Egyptian culture. Standage explains that in Egyptian culture the
phrases to make a beer hall and to sit in the beer hall were very popular expressions that meant to

Decay And Its Effects On The Global Amount Of Carbon Decay
Decay All living things must decay to balance the global amount of carbon. Decay can take
many years to be completed. Some decay more rapidly than others. For instance, Robinia
Pseudoacacia, or Black Locust, has a slower decay rate than coniferous. These both also differ
from the decay of human bodies. There are also some less substantial things that can decay as well,
but are not needed for balance. All softwoods come from coniferous trees. They grow faster than
hardwoodtrees, and are easier to manufacture. This is because the trees grow fairly tall and straight
which makes it easier to cut long, straight planks. Because of the easy manufacturing, this type of
woodcomes very cheap. Most softwoodis used for indoor furniture, or decoration. Some types of
softwood trees are: pine, spruce, cedar, and redwood. These trees decay faster for the same
reason they are easily manufactured. Manufacturers put several layers of paint on some of the
trees. This is one factor that contributes in preventing decay. All it does though, is keep out the
fungus that causes decay (mr dt.com). The only agent of wood decay are fungi. Wood does
deteriorate from insects, UV rays, and marine animals, but this is not actually decay. There are
three types of decay; white, brown, and soft. You can tell the difference between them by looking
at the color of the wood as it decays. White looks bleached, brown is of course a brown color, but
soft can be either. In white rot the whitish color comes from

The United States Of America Essay
A crash in america may be coming a lot sooner than many people think. The United States of
America is facing problems a lot of people are either unaware of or just dont think its a big deal.
Most of america think that our economy and government is in alright financial shape, That may
not be the case though. America is in bad shape and it seems to be going down hill. America is
declining in world power as well and this is just another factor leading to a crash in the future.
Other nations are growing a lot more powerful than they have been in the past causing very big
problems as a nation.
There are a lot of people that think they have very solid arguments that america is in fine shape
and no one has any reason to worry. They think the problems people talk about are no big deal amd
that the nation can deal with them no problem. These reasons have some truth but for the most part
they have a lot of things that other nations are in control of. The United States debt is over 19
trillion dollars, that is an insane amount of money and it is going up rapidly. People think this is
ok because the US prints its own money so it is in control of its currency and debt. This is not a
very good thing to think because if the United States tried to get out of debt by printing trillions
more dollars than usual there would be a massive increase in inflation. Another argument is that
Obama added to the debt to get the United States out of a recession. He did do this but it also

Examples Of Co-Operative Principle
2.2 Co operative Principle In 1967, H. Paul Grice, in his William James Lectures at Harvard
University, theorized a set of rules that communicators should follow while communicating.
Grice labels these set of rules as Co operative Principle. He formulates theory of co operation in
the following way. For Grice, talk exchanges are continuous and the participants, to some extent,
make co operative efforts so that the purpose of exchange is achieved. The purpose of exchange
can be formulated before it takes place or it may change during conversation. For conversation to

In Many Cases, A Patient Increases Their Odds Of A Cesarean
In many cases, a patient increases their odds of a cesarean section if they chose to be induced

Multiple studies have looked at nulliparous versus multiparous women and have found that elective

Elective inductions have not been proven to have a significant increase in the need for a
cesarean section. One thought for why there has been an increase in cesarean sections is that
some patients chose to ask their physician for an elective cesarean section. Some woman chose
to do so because they had their previous child by cesarean section and do not want to attempt a
vaginal delivery, while others feel a cesarean section would allow them to chose their own date
and time for a delivery. Minkoff et al. looked at ethical aspects of an elective cesarean section.
They concluded that there is no substantive justice based consideration for performing a cesarean
section (Minkoff et al., 2004). Minkoff et. al also stated that there is no self governed obligation
for anyone to offer a cesarean section in an ethically and legally suitable informed consent process
(2004). The researchers agree that if a patient initiates a request for a cesarean section to her
physician, that physician should respond with informing the patient about the process and request
that the patient reconsiders the procedure given the new information. This ensures that the patient
is rightfully informed of any possible complications and the basics behind a cesarean section. If a
patient returns and still requests for an elective cesarean section, it is ethically permissible for a
physician to implement her request (Minkoff et al.,

The Cultural Heritage Of Syria
I intend to concentrate on the cultural heritage of Syria throughout the duration of this report,
however the the massive losses in life and property incurred over the course of the now five year
long Civil War in Syria is a major factor in the discussion in regards to what remains, and what has
been destroyed, among Syrias tangible cultural heritage in the form of monuments, historical
architecture, and various other pieces of art1. The tangible heritage that remains in the region
effected by the Syrian Civil War is testament to thousands of years of culture, history and
civilization, which must be protected and efforts must be put forth in its preservation. However,
this heritage was built by the ancestors of those who have gone, and is a symbol of past peoples.
Those who remain however, are suffering from the onslaughts of both terrorist groups one one
hand, and are the victims of conflict between the Free Syrian Army and the forces of President
Bashar Al Asad2. It is a logistical and moral quagmire to divert and commit forces to either one or
the other, to protect them both from the destruction in the ongoing conflict. Should international
and local military focus and effort emphasize the protection of priceless artifacts that are
irreplaceable assets for the Syrian people and the world at large? Or should focus instead be

areas with intense fighting?

order to increase political knowledge that students have in the future. The premise is that political
attention and voting are habitual, and promoting these values at a young age may create a type of
inertia that will carry out throughout their lives. In order to be successful, however, I would argue
that simply presenting information about political events and actors would not be sufficient. Neimi
makes the statement earlier that American students are struggling in mathematics and science, but
then contents that simply adding more classes with have a positive effect on civics. Instead of
simply adding more avenues of information for students, it makes more theoretical sense to make
these classes active. Social Learning Theory (Bandura, 1977) would argue that in order to gain
benefits of habitual voting, they would need to rehearse the practice of voting. Given that many
High schoolstudents cannot vote, it would be up to the civics classes to simulate the experience of
voting in a tangible way for the students to receive benefits.... Show more content on

Fishbein (1979) argues that intentions are the strongest predictor of behavior, and issues arise in
changing behavior when behavioral outcomes and actions are conflated. A behavioral outcome is
a grand, general goal. An example would being a good citizen. A behavioral action is a specific
occurrence that contributes to an outcome, but does not completely satisfy the outcome. An
example would be voting as an indicator of being a good citizen. Voting plays a role in being a
good citizen, but it doesn t completely satisfy it. The suggestion by Niemi, then, that providing
more political information in the classroom and motivating students to pursue it outside the
classroom is one that is simply one behavioral action that is being

Deviant Globalization Analysis
Deviant globalization exists and is very much intertwined with mainstream globalization. Gilman,
Goldhammer, and Weber explain that it violates the norms and beliefs of our society like human
rights, violence, etc. Illicit activities are not a new occurrence. Since, both systems are getting more
efficient, they help the formal economy to grow and also the deviant one. Balaam and Dillman
point out examples from the history, such as colonization and piracy. Furthermore, human
trafficking is one example of the illicit international economy. The Economist (2017) story Fear on
the border talks about two Vietnamese young women who were drugged and sold to Chinese men
for marriage. According to Vietnamese officials, between 100 and 150... Show more content on

The latter distinguishes between the voluntary exchanges between two parties, whereas those
outside the contract, find it deviant. Gilman, Goldhammer, and Weber talk about deviant
globalization and the reasons why the global rich and global poor are participating in such
activities. For example, global rich is not participating in the illicit activities to increase their wealth.
They are acquiring perhaps replacement organ or drugs. However, the global poor engage in deviant
globalization in order to gain wealth, climb out of poverty, and sometimes this is the only way for
the entire community to experience economic growth. Further, Ambagtsheer describes the organ
trade that due to the long wait time for organs, some people turn to black markets. This article
points out that the average wait time for an organ can be three to five years, but not everybody is
strong enough to survive that long. As Ambagtsheer explains, black markets exist parallel with the
legal market for organs. What makes them illegal is that the organs are sold for profit, whereas,
the World Health Organization has guidelines to explain why the organ sale is not allowed and
legal. The bottom line is that valuing each human life, the organ sale is unethical and immoral.
Also, the black markets might take advantage of the poor and most vulnerable people. However,
according to Ambagtsheer, organ trade differs from other illicit activities in that it also

Memory Psychology
Memory
One of the human functions that is intriguing to me and makes people unique from each other is
human memory. I am finding that through experiences and what we remember from those
experiences, our brain develops and humans form their interpretation of the world and the things
around them based on their memory. Our favorite films and the ones we dislike the most are part
of the many things that we draw our conclusions from based on memory. Knowing this can help
me create more dynamic characters in my scripts because I can better form characters based on
their memory. Whether it be the style the cinematographer might have in his or her shot choice or
simply the action that is present on the screen, memory of these aspects allows me ... Show more

The way that I view a solution like this is taking the easy way out. It seems for no matter what
condition you are going through in this country, there is nobody to sit and help you through a
situation besides a bottle of pills. I don t know what should happen exactly as a solution, but if
we know that weaker emotion equals weaker memories than why can t a psychiatrist work with
patients in doing what they are hoping the pill can do? I m personally apathetic in this area of
study, but I feel strongly against the use of pills so regularly.
Flashbulb memories are a clear memory of an emotionally significant moment or event. This is
intriguing to me how this works, but it most certainly is true. I have talked with friends recently
that I grew up with through grade school and we had one of those moments where I started a
conversation off with, Remember that one time we were out on the playground and a guy was
walking around outside with a shotgun and we had to go inside on lockdown? Of course they all
remember that day and specific and minute things that happened during that time because of
flashbulb memory.
After reading the chapter on memory I have become more aware on how the mind remembers
things. I always told myself growing up that studying things I already knew was completely
pointless, but it turns out that you are still learning just by continuing to review. I am going to have

A Career In Health Information Technology
I have decided to pursue a career in health information technology. My eventual goal is to get a
job in a medical billing and coding setting. I am lucky enough to have a couple of family
members that currently work in this field, so I am ahead of the curve in knowing what to expect
and where are good places to apply. This course has taught me most of the duties that a health
information technician is responsible for. They look through records and compile data. They are
responsible to know the coded numbers for diagnosis and procedures in order to properly bill and
document. They have to know the legalities and insurance policies to answer any questions for
patients. They have to be meticulous in their note taking and organization skills.... Show more

They are there to help you assess and give you direction on your chosen occupation. They will
help you tweak your resume or cover letter to impress potential employers. They will even assist
you in a job search, and help you network to improve your ability to get noticed by potential
employers. They will also give you interview tips and hold mock interviews to help you prepare
for potential job interviews. This can help me in a huge way as I am horrible in resume writing
as well as networking. I prefer the old fashion way of communication and have not been out in the
social networking world as much as some of the other candidates that I could be competing with. I
will most definitely be taking advantage of this awesome service that is afforded to me as a Kaplan

I Am A Bachelor Of Science Psychology
I am a Bachelor of Science Psychology major at my university, and my love for behavioral
sciences is so impeccable that I am complex on deciding what area to choose for my future
career. I come from a family with members who suffer from either mental disorder, substance
abuse, or adolescence issues. So it makes my decision even more difficult, because I want to
help the world. However, I am leaning more towards a career in social work because the field is
so diverse. Social work allows you to interact with people of all cultures and hardships. Within this
field there are issues just like every other field in society, it has encouraging trends as well as
problematic trends. The encouraging trends of Psychologyin Social Work are in the schools for one
example. The children in our school system are sometimes troubled, and in the past the focus has
only been on academic struggles and peer pressure. Many adolescents turn to drugs and alcohol to
cope with abuse, bullying, and other mentally draining issues, and unfortunately, sometimes suicide.
Now, these days, the focus has expanded to the student s outside life. This means focusing on
poverty, violence, home life, environment, and cultural issues. I am a true believer in the molding
process begins at home. It is hard for a student to do their best if they are hurting emotionally and
mentally at home. With this amazing shift in focus we are not only helping to develop better
students, we may be saving lives along the way

Happiness Is Not What I Thought It Was
Blog: Happiness was not what I thought it was
As humans, we often look for happiness in the wrong places or for the wrong reasons. We even
sometimes expect happiness by doing something that makes others happy but unfortunately, that
does not work for everyone. A lot of the times we are followers when we should be leaders; we
may see something that seems sensational for others and try it instead of searching for happiness
ourselves. In other circumstances, we do certain things to keep others happy, and forget about
what makes us happy. When applying for college, I thought that going outside of Texas for school
would make me happy. I thought that experiencing college in a new place, with new people and
being on my own would be an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I never thought that the location of a university such as whether it was in a rural or urban area
could impact me either. After all, no one seems to talk about what affect students in college. The
media usually just shows the happy moments, but not the reality and it is why most students go
into college expecting to have the time of their lives. Thus, I ended up choosing a school with a
well recognized engineering program and figured that would be enough. It was also a bittersweet
feeling knowing my family was proud, and at the time that made me very happy. As the semester
began, things began to get quite serious. The school that I thought was good enough was not. I
was coming from a graduating class of one hundred students and felt very overwhelmed in a
school of fifty thousand students. The core class sizes were about 250 300 students. It was very
difficult to get to know your professors as well as to find academic support. Not to mention the
location of the campus where 50% of the population were students. Coming from a big city, it
was hard to adjust to a small town, in the middle of nowhere and with completely new people. It
felt as if I was trapped in a bubble, with nowhere to go. At the beginning, I thought it was normal
to feel lonely and homesick, since it was my first time going away from home and it was the first
time for many students as well. I knew I was not the only one feeling homesick and hoped things
would get better.

  • 2. Methyl Mercury Research Paper Minamata was once only a small bay, filled with fish and sea life. Then, in 1932, the Chisso Corporation of Japan opened a chemical plant in Minamata, dumping their waste into the bay. The factory they built produced acetaldehyde, a synthetic acid which had many uses, from photography to scientific research. The factory served a global purpose, exporting the acetaldehyde around the world, however the side effects of its production were kept local. Acetaldehyde was produced by Chisso using mercury sulfate as a catalyst (Boston University). The process began with water and carbide, which were combined to create Acethylene. From here, water and sulfuric mercury were added, to produce Acetaldehyde and the byproduct of methyl mercury. Through... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has three main effects. The most prominent, is that it acts as a neurotoxin. It affects the brain and nervous system of organic beings. The second effect, is that it replaces calcium in bones. This causes major deformities, and often leads to death. Finally, it is a carcinogen, causing cancer in most things which come into contact with it. In Minamata Bay, small fish and plants would absorb the mercury, then be consumed by larger animals. It travelled through the food chain, until it reached mammals on land. The mercury had undergone biomagnification, where larger animals in the food chain contain more mercury, because they consume many smaller animals. Soon, large fish caught by the people of Minamata contained over a million times the amount of mercury found in the smaller fish (Gilbert, 2004). The methylmercury was soluble in fats, specifically the fats in fish. This changed the poisonous methylmercury into a lethal toxin, as it would bind with proteins. People consumed these fish on a regular basis, however so did the much smaller cats. Because the cats were so much smaller, they showed the effects of the mercury first, jumping erratically, and often becoming ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparable transaction is a conventional method of evaluating the value of something that is ready for sale. To value a ship, one had to identify a set of comparable ships where comparability was based on four main factors: ship type, size (DWT), age, and condition. The Bet Performer was a 11 year old ship, built in 1997, 172,000 DWT capsize bulk carrier. From the Exhibit 4, there are five ships which are the most comparable to Bet Performer. They are Martha Verity, Ingenious, Sumihou, Cape Sun, and Coppersmith. These ships all have the most similar characteristics, in terms of ship type,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is logical because, larger the ships, more load could they carry, and thus make higher profits, so are priced higher. Relationship between Age and Ship Price: From the regression, we find that as the ship ages by one year, the price of the ship drops by $ 4.54 mln. This makes sense because as with any other vehicle or asset, the efficiency of the ship drops with age. As it gets older, the carrying value of the ship lowers due to depreciation. Relationship between Charter rates and Ship Price: With one point increase in the Capesize ship index, there is a slight increase in the price of the ship by $0.007 mln. The Capesize ships took like a year to build, and are good for 25 years, after which they are demolished and sold for scrap. The economics of this ship breaking differed by ship size and type category. So higher this index, higher is the price of the ship. b.Can you think of other factors that might predict ship prices? Apart from the 4 factors ship type, DWT, ship age and gears, there are a couple of other factors which affect the ship price. • 10. Characterization Of Duck Viperin And The Natural Reservoir... Characterization of duck viperin Introduction: Ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) and other waterfowl are the natural reservoir of Influenza A virus (IAV) (Webster et al. 1992). IAV may cross the species barrier from the reservoir species causing sporadic infections in other avian or mammalian species (Webster et al. 1995). These infections impose a large burden on human and animal health worldwide leading to economic losses; In humans, in 2008, 90 million new influenza infections resulted in an estimated 28000 115000 deaths worldwide (Nair et al. 2011), in birds, in 1999, Italy experienced a HPAI epidemic caused by an H7N1 virus subtype. In total 16 million birds were culled and the estimated loss was about € 507 million, with € 112 million in direct losses and € 395 million in consequential losses (Sartore et al. 2010). Ducks often display little to no disease symptoms after IAV infection. They stimulate a robust innate immune response when infected with HPAI by up regulating many innate immune genes (Vanderven et al. 2012). Therefore, characterization of innate immune genes of ducks, particularly the genes that are upregulated during IAV infection, might give insight into the relationship between IAV and the innate immune response of ducks, which will help us to control the virus. When exposing the mallard ducks to the highly pathogenic IAV (H5N1), there was an upregulation in some innate immunity genes; one of the highest upregulated gene was viperin (Virus inhibitory protein, ... Having the vivid image of a distressed baby makes the reader feel compassion for the child. The baby is stuck in the middle of an argument between two adults and has no choice to leave. These examples of imagery relate to the theme of selfishness and greed that can overpower a person. Carver uses very few details in this story to make it more relatable to the reader. For instance, there are no names given the the man, woman, or child in the story. The absence of this details lets the reader put themselves in the shoes of the man, woman, or child while reading. There is an instance or hesitation or uncertainty when the man leaves the bedroom: He fastened the suitcase, put on his coat, looked around the bedroom before turning off the light (Carver). When the man looks back to the room, his hesitation implies that he is unsure about what decision to make, but when he shuts off the light, he is void of all feelings and has decided to fight. A similar situation happens to the woman in this story: she wiped her eyes and stared at him before turning and going back to the living room (Carver). When this woman looks at her spouse she is making sure that she wants to go through with fighting, and when she looks away she is determined to win the fight. There are no complicated tools or objects involved in the process and children would not be proud in taking an item home and sharing with their friends or siblings. This would as well show to parents that the museum is not just about looking at the material collected. Children at the age of 5 8 are particular excited in showing their achievements. The National Maritime Museum holds pirate day every Wednesday and Friday and there are six sessions between both days. This shows that there is an interest for schools to organise trips and bring children were they can become pirates for the day. Young boys and girls are very interested in pirates. Great changes have been experiences in banking industry for the past decades. For example, the return on average assets in 2003 for the two merger targets, Bank One and Fleet Boston, were 1.27% and 1.34%, respectively, while the top 50 bank holding companies averaged 1.28%. This indicates that the recent mega mergers are not motivated by economic weakness but rather by other economic forces. Major changes in the banking system One significant phenomenon in the nation s banking system is consolidation. The pace of mergers had been expedited in the 1990s. Some of these mergers made full use of new laws permitting banks to spread within and across state lines. Other mergers were pursued to reduce costs, even though parts to be proven in vain. Merger activity has decreased in recent days, and some specialists anticipate this is just a momentary pause. Even if merger activity is unable to climb up to its previous levels, mergers have influenced banking to some extent. One important effect of the recent merger wave has been an increase in the role of large banking organizations. The biggest change here has involved the so called mega banks banks with more than $100 billion of assets. Such banks are much less important in rural markets than urban markets, but their share of rural deposits still increased considerably during the 1990s from only 1.7% in mid 1990 to 8.2% in mid 2000. This issue of two people of the same sex getting married is still a topic of debate to a lot of people even after the U.S. Supreme court made gay marriage legal in all 50 states in 20151. The Catholic Church teaches to treat homosexuals with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. That every act of hate, violence, and persecution toward them is condemned. The Church doesn t view homosexuals no poorly than they do everyone else but it is their views on marriage that are in question. They believe that all sexual activity outside of marriage as a sin and an immoral act. • 29. Decay And Its Effects On The Global Amount Of Carbon Decay Decay All living things must decay to balance the global amount of carbon. Decay can take many years to be completed. Some decay more rapidly than others. For instance, Robinia Pseudoacacia, or Black Locust, has a slower decay rate than coniferous. These both also differ from the decay of human bodies. There are also some less substantial things that can decay as well, but are not needed for balance. All softwoods come from coniferous trees. They grow faster than hardwoodtrees, and are easier to manufacture. This is because the trees grow fairly tall and straight which makes it easier to cut long, straight planks. Because of the easy manufacturing, this type of woodcomes very cheap. Most softwoodis used for indoor furniture, or decoration. Some types of softwood trees are: pine, spruce, cedar, and redwood. These trees decay faster for the same reason they are easily manufactured. Manufacturers put several layers of paint on some of the trees. This is one factor that contributes in preventing decay. All it does though, is keep out the fungus that causes decay (mr dt.com). The only agent of wood decay are fungi. Wood does deteriorate from insects, UV rays, and marine animals, but this is not actually decay. There are three types of decay; white, brown, and soft. Neimi makes the statement earlier that American students are struggling in mathematics and science, but then contents that simply adding more classes with have a positive effect on civics. Instead of simply adding more avenues of information for students, it makes more theoretical sense to make these classes active. Social Learning Theory (Bandura, 1977) would argue that in order to gain benefits of habitual voting, they would need to rehearse the practice of voting. Gilman, Goldhammer, and Weber talk about deviant globalization and the reasons why the global rich and global poor are participating in such activities. For example, global rich is not participating in the illicit activities to increase their wealth. They are acquiring perhaps replacement organ or drugs. However, the global poor engage in deviant globalization in order to gain wealth, climb out of poverty, and sometimes this is the only way for the entire community to experience economic growth. Further, Ambagtsheer describes the organ trade that due to the long wait time for organs, some people turn to black markets. This article points out that the average wait time for an organ can be three to five years, but not everybody is strong enough to survive that long. As Ambagtsheer explains, black markets exist parallel with the legal market for organs. What makes them illegal is that the organs are sold for profit, whereas, the World Health Organization has guidelines to explain why the organ sale is not allowed and legal. The bottom line is that valuing each human life, the organ sale is unethical and immoral. Also, the black markets might take advantage of the poor and most vulnerable people. However, according to Ambagtsheer, organ trade differs from other illicit activities in that it also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Memory Psychology Memory One of the human functions that is intriguing to me and makes people unique from each other is human memory. I am finding that through experiences and what we remember from those experiences, our brain develops and humans form their interpretation of the world and the things around them based on their memory. Our favorite films and the ones we dislike the most are part of the many things that we draw our conclusions from based on memory. Knowing this can help me create more dynamic characters in my scripts because I can better form characters based on their memory. Whether it be the style the cinematographer might have in his or her shot choice or simply the action that is present on the screen, memory of these aspects allows me ... It seems for no matter what condition you are going through in this country, there is nobody to sit and help you through a situation besides a bottle of pills. I don t know what should happen exactly as a solution, but if we know that weaker emotion equals weaker memories than why can t a psychiatrist work with patients in doing what they are hoping the pill can do? I m personally apathetic in this area of study, but I feel strongly against the use of pills so regularly. Flashbulb memories are a clear memory of an emotionally significant moment or event. This is intriguing to me how this works, but it most certainly is true. I have talked with friends recently that I grew up with through grade school and we had one of those moments where I started a conversation off with, Remember that one time we were out on the playground and a guy was walking around outside with a shotgun and we had to go inside on lockdown? Of course they all remember that day and specific and minute things that happened during that time because of flashbulb memory. After reading the chapter on memory I have become more aware on how the mind remembers things. I always told myself growing up that studying things I already knew was completely pointless, but it turns out that you are still learning just by continuing to review. I am going to have to ... • 42. A Career In Health Information Technology I have decided to pursue a career in health information technology. My eventual goal is to get a job in a medical billing and coding setting. I am lucky enough to have a couple of family members that currently work in this field, so I am ahead of the curve in knowing what to expect and where are good places to apply. This course has taught me most of the duties that a health information technician is responsible for. They look through records and compile data. They are responsible to know the coded numbers for diagnosis and procedures in order to properly bill and document. They have to know the legalities and insurance policies to answer any questions for patients. They have to be meticulous in their note taking and organization skills.... They will help you tweak your resume or cover letter to impress potential employers. They will even assist you in a job search, and help you network to improve your ability to get noticed by potential employers. They will also give you interview tips and hold mock interviews to help you prepare for potential job interviews. This can help me in a huge way as I am horrible in resume writing as well as networking. I prefer the old fashion way of communication and have not been out in the social networking world as much as some of the other candidates that I could be competing with. I will most definitely be taking advantage of this awesome service that is afforded to me as a Kaplan university student (Kaplan Higher Education, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. I Am A Bachelor Of Science Psychology I am a Bachelor of Science Psychology major at my university, and my love for behavioral sciences is so impeccable that I am complex on deciding what area to choose for my future career. I come from a family with members who suffer from either mental disorder, substance abuse, or adolescence issues. So it makes my decision even more difficult, because I want to help the world. However, I am leaning more towards a career in social work because the field is so diverse. Social work allows you to interact with people of all cultures and hardships. Within this field there are issues just like every other field in society, it has encouraging trends as well as problematic trends. The encouraging trends of Psychologyin Social Work are in the schools for one example. The children in our school system are sometimes troubled, and in the past the focus has only been on academic struggles and peer pressure. Many adolescents turn to drugs and alcohol to cope with abuse, bullying, and other mentally draining issues, and unfortunately, sometimes suicide. Now, these days, the focus has expanded to the student s outside life. This means focusing on poverty, violence, home life, environment, and cultural issues. I am a true believer in the molding process begins at home. It is hard for a student to do their best if they are hurting emotionally and mentally at home. With this amazing shift in focus we are not only helping to develop better students, we may be saving lives along the way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Happiness Is Not What I Thought It Was Blog: Happiness was not what I thought it was As humans, we often look for happiness in the wrong places or for the wrong reasons. We even sometimes expect happiness by doing something that makes others happy but unfortunately, that does not work for everyone. A lot of the times we are followers when we should be leaders; we may see something that seems sensational for others and try it instead of searching for happiness ourselves. In other circumstances, we do certain things to keep others happy, and forget about what makes us happy. When applying for college, I thought that going outside of Texas for school would make me happy. I thought that experiencing college in a new place, with new people and being on my own would be an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I never thought that the location of a university such as whether it was in a rural or urban area could impact me either. After all, no one seems to talk about what affect students in college. The media usually just shows the happy moments, but not the reality and it is why most students go into college expecting to have the time of their lives. Thus, I ended up choosing a school with a well recognized engineering program and figured that would be enough. It was also a bittersweet feeling knowing my family was proud, and at the time that made me very happy. As the semester began, things began to get quite serious. The school that I thought was good enough was not. I was coming from a graduating class of one hundred students and felt very overwhelmed in a school of fifty thousand students. The core class sizes were about 250 300 students. It was very difficult to get to know your professors as well as to find academic support. Not to mention the location of the campus where 50% of the population were students. Coming from a big city, it was hard to adjust to a small town, in the middle of nowhere and with completely new people. It felt as if I was trapped in a bubble, with nowhere to go. At the beginning, I thought it was normal to feel lonely and homesick, since it was my first time going away from home and it was the first time for many students as well. I knew I was not the only one feeling homesick and hoped things would get better. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
