Introduction To Flower
 Reproductive organ of angiosperm plants
especially one having showy or colorful parts.
 It is also called Bloom.
 A plant cultivated for it’s booms or blossoms.
 Flowers represent the reproductive organ of
flowering plants.
 Flowers arise from the apical portion of a stem in a
region called the Receptacle.
Flower parts
 Calyx is the outer part of flower which protect the buds
during immature stage of flower. Individual calyx called
Sepal.
 Corolla is the inner part of flower, which colorful gives
help in pollination for attract the pollinating agent for
pollination.
Individual corolla is called Petal.
 Androecium: It is the male part of flower, it contains
Anther and Filament.

Anther: Part of stamen that contains pollen grains.
Filament: The stalk of a stamen.
 Gynoecium: It is the female part of flower, it contains
Stigma, Style and Ovary.
 Stigma: The apical end of the style where deposited
pollen grain enters into pistil.
 Style: The narrow elongated part of the pistil between
the ovary and stigma.
 Ovary: The organ that bears the ovules of a flower.
Flower parts
 Flowers have only a gynoceium meaning they are “female”
flowers are called Carpellate/Pistillate flowers.
 Flowers have only androecium meaning they are “male”
flowers are called Staminate flowers. Staminate flowers
produce only pollen and are not capable of producing fruit.
 Plants that have carpellate and staminate flowers on a single
individual are called Monoecious.
 Plants that have carpellate and staminate flowers on
separate individual plants are called Dioecious.
Types of Flowers
 Flowers that have both male and female whorls/parts are
called Perfect flowers.
 Flowers that have missing any one essential whorl/part
either male or female parts are called Imperfect
flowers.
 Flowers that have four whorls/parts (calyx, corolla,
androecium & gynoecium) are called Complete flowers.
 Flowers that have missing two whorls/parts (calyx and
corolla) are called Incomplete flowers.
Types of Flowers
 In a flower androecium is before mature than
gynoecium is called Protoandry.
 In a flower the gynoecium is before mature than
androecium called Protogamy.
 The androecium and gynoecium both have same
length is called Homostyle.
 The androecium and gynoecium both have different
length is called Hetrostyle.
Types of Flowers
 The androecium and gynoecium present in a flower but both are
not functional are called Sterile Flower.
 In a flower the androecium and gynoecium both are missing is
called Natural Flower.
