How To Change Fate In Macbeth
Every person has their own specific personalities, which can then determine what their fate is and
how easily their fate can be changed. A weaker person has more of a possibility of their fate being
manipulated by other people, whereas a more outspoken person has a smaller possibility of their
fate being influenced by others. Although fate can be affected by other people, but you are the one
who ultimately changes your fate and your decisions are what decided your fate. Throughout the
entirety of Macbeth, there have been very many different personalities shown and many different
changed fates. Macbethbegan the book as a weaker and an easily manipulated character that was
willing to do anything to gain any form of power. While in his power hungry state, Macbeth
made bad decisions which created a bad fate for him. Macbeth s need for power and his weak state
allowed the witches to come into his life and affect... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Macbeth thought To be thus is nothing, but to be safely thus meaning it means nothing to be
king if he is not safe as the king, and that one short statement showed that Macbeth would do
anything and was going to do anything that stood in the way of him safely being king (3.1.51
80). Macbeth stated There is none but he whose being I do fear showing that he will kill anyone
that could possibly stand in the way of his future children getting the crown (3.1.51 80). The
witches created an even more power hungry, now murderer, all because he knew his fate, and he
would do anything to anyone so that his fate would only go in his favor. Macbeth saw the
opportunity to try and change his and Banquo s fate, so he tried to change it, but in doing so he
changed his future for the worst by having these many threats

Enzyme And The Enzyme Of Enzyme
Enzyme Lab
Enzymes are catalysts that speed up chemical reactions without being used up in the process
(Leady). A catalyst helps speed up a chemical reaction without being changed during the reaction.
Enzymes are specific meaning that they can work with only a specific set of chemical reactions.
Most enzyme names end in ase. The shape of a protein is very important in its function for the
reaction. The molecule the enzyme works on is called a substrate. In order for this enzyme to work
on this reaction the substrate must first fit into an activation site. When an enzyme binds to its
substrate, it is called an enzyme substrate complex. The resulting chemicals from the reaction are
called the products. Enzymes can be affected by a few ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All enzymes work best at a specific pH making the reaction better. A few examples of enzymes
and their pH level are Pepsin and Trypsin. Pepsin is a stomach enzyme works best at a pH of 2,
which is acidic. Trypsin and many other enzymes of the small intestines work better at a higher pH
which is basic. By increasing the amount of enzyme or substrate molecules is known to increase the
concentration to the solution (Effect). As the amounts of enzymes are increasing in the reaction,
the rate of the reaction is also increasing. Furthermore, as the amount of the substrate is increasing,
the reaction rate increases up to the point where the enzyme is fully occupied and then the rate
levels off.
Hypothesis/prediction:
If the temperature in the solution of the enzyme peroxidase increases, next the rate of peroxidase
will also rise because the warmer the solution, the faster the molecules move, thus causing increased
collisions between substrate and enzyme. If the temperature in the solution decreases, the rate of
reaction will decrease because a colder solution forces molecules to move a lot slower, causing the
amount of collisions between enzyme and substrate to decrease.
Methods:
For this experiment, we utilized the lab manual Basics of Life Science by Brenda

The Importance Of Arts In Education
Some schools in the United States offer a variety of arts programs, while other schools may have
mediocre to non existent arts programs. Students in their early years of schooling from elementary
to high school depending on whether he or she has an arts education can affect them in the long
run. Art programs since the 1980s have integrated into public education, however the No Child Left
Behind act has since put the arts in the decline. According to Americans, 93% of them agree the
arts are vital to providing a well rounded education for children and 86% agree that arts education
encourages and assists in the improvement of a child s attitude toward school. The National
Education Association believes the arts play an important role in... Show more content on

Under the No Child Left Behind Act, passed in 2002, the federal government started assessing
school districts by their students scores on reading and mathematics tests. Due to having reading
and mathematics as the core way of assessing how much a school does and how much it receives in
federal funding, schools focus more on reading and math over anything else including art. Deep
budget cuts on the art education at the benefit of mathematics and reading has long lasting effects
on schools that do so. According to National Endowment for the Arts 2015 Annual Report, many
state and local organizations depend on federal funding to sustain accessible arts programs
throughout the country. With funding being limited, art has to be reduced as it s deemed
unimportant. Furthermore a study titled The Role of the Fine and Performing Arts in High School
Dropout Prevention, by the Center for Music Research at Florida State University, Students at risk
of not successfully completing their high school educations cite their participation in the arts as
reasons for staying in school. Factors related to the arts that positively affected the motivation

Harriet Jacobs, Wheatley, And Olaudah Equiano
Throughout the years, many people have attempted to portray the hardships and struggles of slaves
based on what they learned or what they might have been taught. But realistically, there is no way
for anyone to understand the lives that many blacks were forced into because they have never
actually experienced it themselves. During slavery, blacks were separated from their families and
pushed into a lifestyle that was dehumanizing and depressing. Their everyday lives were being
watched and harsh punishments were being given for reasons that were unethical. Harriet Jacobs,
Phyllis Wheatley, and Olaudah Equiano wrote about the different struggles that they faced as slaves
in order to give readers an understanding from their point of view. In... Show more content on

The Causes Of The Border Patrol
This scenario is playing out on America s borders every day. The organization that manages the
Border Patrol, Customs and Border Protection, has become the largest federal law enforcement
agency in the nation, and with that distinction comes some scrutiny. Two articles were written,
the first by The New York Times, the other by the Associated Press, that highlighted some
disturbing trends within the agency. The number of Border Patrol agents more than doubled
between 2004 and 2011, when they grew to over 20,000 employees, and that number continued
to rise, reaching over 21,000 today. Since...September 11, 2001, the focus of the Border Patrol
has changed to detection, apprehension and/or deterrence of terrorists or terrorist weapons, but
as the agency uses that motto to grow its, it has become increasingly clear that they are more
concerned with keeping certain people out than keeping the border safe. Increase in suicides
among Border Patrol agents causes alarm, by the Associated Press Paul J. Weber addresses the
disturbing trend of suicides among Border Patrol agents. Between February 2008 and August
2010, 15 Border Patrol agents had taken their own lives. There had not been a single suicide in
the agency for four years prior to that point. To further illustrate the significance of that trend: the
national rate of suicide at the time was 12 for every 100,000 people. The Border Patrol s rate was
at 30 per 100,000. So why the sudden spike? Some officials and family members

Conflict at Walt Disney- Case Study

Conflict at Walt Disney Within every organization there is some type of conflict, whether the
conflict is personal, organizational or emotional. But the key is to manage the conflict so as to not
hinder the profitability, functionality or public image of the company so that it is viable
competitively. In the case of the Walt DisneyCompany, although the company had conflict within
the organization, this did not hinder its competitiveness. The company still was able to compete,
even with the public knowledge of its conflict with the company s owner Michael Eisner. What is
important to understand about conflict is that there are several types of conflict, there are different

Conflict Resolution Managing conflict for organizations is very important in maintaining
business relationships, especially ones that are profitable like that of Disney Pixar. At the helm
of the Walt Disney Company during the begging and end of these feuds was Michael Eisner and
Bob Iger. Even though Michael Eisner is the one responsible for the conflict with Disney and
Pixar, he should be equally responsible for trying to fix the damaged relationship. When trying to
manage conflict there are several approaches that can be taken to resolve the conflict at hand:
dominating, accommodating, problem solving, avoiding and compromising. Eisner s
Style.Michael s style of conflict resolution can be described as dominating. The dominating
approach to conflict resolution involves using its power over the individual to force them into a
resolution that is only beneficial to their interests. Being that Eisner has held some sort of power
over the parties involved, such as controlling budgets of the involved parties or having a
hierarchical position within the company, such as the CEO, he uses this type of approach to solve
resolutions. Iger s Style.Bog Iger s conflict resolutions style can be described as problem solving.

Social Pressure And Voter Turnout Essay
While reading a variety of political science articles I have found the conventional wisdom on a
multitude of influences and their correlation with voter turnout. Generally what I found while
reading is that there is often a motivational factor that causes a person to perform their civic duty by
voting . My understanding of the conventional wisdom is that when there is some source of social
pressure motivations, it often leads to an increase in voter turnout.
Adding to the belief that social pressures influence voter turnout, Alan Gerber, Donald Green and
Christopher Larimer in Social Pressure and Voter Turnout: Evidence from a Large Scale Field
Experiment, test the effects of priming intrinsic motives and applying varying degrees and extrinsic
pressure. Their research attempts to show the extent by which social pressure increases voter
turnout. Before the Michigan primary election in August of 2006, researchers sent out one of four
various mailings to several register voters in the state, so about 80,000 households. These various
mailings were sent out to encourage these individuals to vote ... Show more content on

The researchers concluded that social pressure through the direct mail has an effective result, it
increased voter turnout. Higher voting poll turnout was observed among those who received the
letters promising to publish their turnout record to their household or their neighbor. This shows
just how much social pressure can influence political participation among voters. This remarkable
increase in turnout, observe the authors, exceeds the effect of live phone calls and rivals the effect
of face to face contact with canvassers conducting get out the vote campaigns. They argue that
social pressure is most effective in increasing voter turnout than other methods. This study provides
new insight into the phenomenon of voter mobilization and to what extent social pressure has on
voter s decision to turn out to polls and

associated with PTSD, posttraumatic stress disorder, and how PTSD can develop into long term
psychiatric and even physical medical conditions. Neglect of a child can affect them later in life
and affect their learning, social, mobile and regular everyday functions and activities. Music also
shows the reader how early childhoodexperiences can impact attachment between mother and child.
In addition, while neglect can occur at anytime during development, children are most vulnerable
because of their reliance on adults in order to survive. He shows the reader... Show more content on

The most damaging form of trauma is interpersonal trauma which is far more likely than other
traumas, such as car accidents, to give rise to posttraumatic symptoms (Van der Kolk, 1989).
Maybe the worst form of interpersonal trauma is that inflicted by a child s carers. When a carer
turns abuser, then the world feels unsafe and unpredictable. Serious abuse often leads to fear,
helplessness, shame... (Music 206)
Music shows how early trauma and neglect can impair a child s education, social activities and life.
Children need constant parental monitoring in order to thrive. Without constant redirection,
nurturing and advice especially in vulnerable communities like impoverished homes and poor
neighborhoods external negative influences can neglect can set in triggering PTSD like symptoms.
In short, without parental monitoring, children do not learn the necessities in order to live life to
the fullest. Music explains PTSD to include intrusive thoughts and flashbacks. Interpersonal trauma
refers to injuries and neglect that can be sustained within families. Children are negatively impacted
by neglect because if the parent is unable to meet the child s basic and psychological needs, then not
only is the child at risk, but the parent is demonstrating irresponsible behavior. This, in turn,
becomes the normalcy for these children and they bring these irresponsible behaviors into
adulthood and the

The Dark Side Of Dark Net Markets
In a world of ever dwindling freedoms one of the last bastions of completely unregulated and
free trade is the deep web, and even though a plethora of dangerous illegal activity goes on within
it, it should be left alone. Even if the deep web and all the markets hidden within it are somehow
shut down, people will find a new haven to carry on their activity. There will always be a bastion
for illegal activity somewhere, and there is nothing anyone can do to change that fact. Dark net
markets aren t the only thing hiding in the deep webeither, there are entire communities that house
themselves within it. Something I find myself pondering quite a bit about these days is that a lot
of the technology that has become so embedded in our lives seems so science fiction like, but are
we ready for it? Something that we have in our culture that not many people know about is the
dark net or deep web. Like a cyberpunk novel, it s an entire underground culture based in the vast
world of the internet, our modern day virtual information highway. It is used for all colors of illegal
activity; drug trafficking, human trafficking, counterfeit products, a disturbing amount of illegal
pornography (most of it is just that, same with the surface webas well), weapons, hitmen,
questionable literature, all the things the government veils with its law. The dark net is much more
than that, and despite the myriad of illegal endeavors that it is infamous for, the dark net is a vast

Lastly, a land where humans like us live. Farming, sewing, writing, painting, selling goods and little

Long ago, the queen of the celestial gave birth to fraternal twins. Two of them have symbolic

Actuality getting involved in such type of professional conversations improved my level of
communication and taught me how to behave in a professional manner. Also I would like to say
that communication is a dual practice, you not only get to talk and build on your communication
skill but, you also get to listen and by it become an understanding supportive person. One of the
drawbacks in my communication skill enhancement is that I don t think it works well in UK, in
this multicultural university I have struggled to communicate effectively with students and
teachers. This can be explained by Hoftsede s structure of cultural dimensions (Hofstede,
Hofstede, and Minkov, 2010). In his framework he explains the world as complex of diverse
nations and people, who act, think and perform differently (Hoftsede et al., 2010). To overcome this
difficulty I was supported by my colleagues at university.

Analysis Of Thoreau s Solitude
Thoreau opens Solitude with a melodious articulation of his pleasure in and sensitivity for nature.
When he comes back to his home in the wake of strolling at night, he finds that guests have ceased
by, which prompts him to remark both on his strict separation from others while at the lake and on
the non literal space between men. There is closeness in his association with nature, which gives
adequate fraternity and blocks the likelihood of forlornness. The immensity of the universe puts the
space between men in context. Thoreau brings up that on the off chance that we accomplish a
more prominent closeness to nature and the heavenly, we won t require physical nearness to others
in the station, the mail station, the tavern, the meeting house, the school building places that offer
the sort of organization that diverts and disperses. He remarks on man s double nature as a
physical element and as a scholarly observer inside his own particular body, which isolates a man
from himself and adds encourage point of view to his separation from others. Also, a man is
constantly alone when thinking and working. He finishes up the part by alluding to allegorical
guests who speak to God and nature, to his own unity with nature, and to the wellbeing and
imperativeness that nature gives. Proceeding with the topic created in Higher Laws, Brute

The states involved in this convention were groups that interacted and discussed there concerns and
interests in order to create the constitution. In these groups there where delegates that were chosen

were conflicting because some people felt that they needed a strong central government and some
felt the need to give the power equally to the people and the government. They wanted the large

The Federal Budget For The United States
The Federal budget for the United States is a very important part of what the president must put
together every year so every department in the government can know what they will be able to
spend in the upcoming year. Government spending generally exceeds the budget put in place
which is why America is so far into debt, the good thing about the budget is that about 21% of it
goes back into the economy. The fiscal policy is how the government spendingand taxation
influence the economy based on what goods and services are purchased or the taxes collected. The
federal budget is split into three parts the mandatory spending, discretionary spending, and interest
on debt. It may seem like the interest on debt would need the biggest part of the budget because the
U.S. is trillions of dollars in debt, but this part of the budget actually takes up the least amount of
money. The mandatory and discretionary take up a little over 90% of the whole budget paying for
all of the services the government provides citizens. The discretionary spending in the United States
mostly goes to the military forces and pentagon, while a very small part of that budget goes to
education, health services, food assistance, among many others. The Mandatory spending is the
spending category where congress authorizes spending that is not in the normal appropriations
process. This budget category includes Medicare, social security, food stamps, along with a large
amount on transportation. All of these

Summary Of The Speech Of Miss Polly Baker
Ben Franklin is known for a slew of accomplishments in his life as a Founding Father of the
United States. An inventor and author, among other occupations, Ben Franklin grew quite a fan
base in his lifetime, despite having such progressive beliefs. One of his most progressive pieces of
writing, The Speech of Miss Polly Baker, discusses the inequality surrounding laws against having
children outside of marriage, specifically regarding how it impacted women. In Benjamin Franklins
The Speech of Miss Polly Baker, Franklin uses wit to effectively argue that the sexist punishments
of laws against having children out of wedlock are absurd by appealing to the reader s ethos,
logos, and pathos through the voice of Polly Baker (Franklin, 242 44).
Ben Franklin appeals to the reader s ethos by having Polly reference her character and her
similar beliefs with the judge. On numerous occasions, Polly touts her character to the judge in
order to establish trust which, in turn, establishes trust with the reader. She states that she has
lived an inoffensive life and asks for the judge to ask her enemies if she has ever harmed a soul,
for she does not believe she has (Franklin, 242). Polly also only uses polite terms to reference the
judge, though this can also be seen as a light form of mocking from Ben Franklin, as she always
calls him Honourable when she also disagrees with him fervently (242). Moreover, Polly
references the past four times she has been sentenced and how she has

How To Build A Houseboat
If I lived on Mr. Plumbean s street, I would rent a backhoe and shovel all the dirt out of the
property until I had formed a one hundred foot by one hundred foot, thirty six foot deep, square
hole that took up the entire piece of land on which the house had previously sat. Now you may
be asking yourself, This guy is a nut. What does he expect to do with a one hundred by one
hundred foot hole in the ground? and I have that covered, just keep reading. So after I had a 100
x100 x36 square hole in my property, I would bring in tank after tank of water until I had brought in
360,000 cubic feet of water to fill the hole. Now I have a semi large pond or a small lake, what do I
still intend to do with that?
I plan on building a 4900 square foot (70 by 70), three story houseboat that takes up 49% of the
lake/pond. The other 51% (5100 square feet) would be dedicated to swimming and other
recreational pastimes (at the bottom of the page is a bird s eye view of the property). This sounds
pretty awesome right? Well next I m going to tell you about the inside of the houseboat.

Journey Motif Essay
In literature, the Journey is often a metaphor for discovery. The journey motif is used in Coleridge
s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. It is also shown in Hawthorne s My Kinsman, Major Molineux
and Young Goodman Brown. In these stories, each main character changes sometime between the
beginning and the end of the story. In addition, religion plays a part in each of these stories.
Typically, in journey literature the hero encounters several obstacles that he or she must overcome.
In Coleridge s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, the Mariner shows negativity. The Mariners moral
vision is so impaired that his comparisons are persistently pessimistic. This pessimism is seen
repeatedly in the similes that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By this, the Mariner shows the beginning of his attitude change. At this point in the poem, the
Mariner s fate begins to change when he is rescued by a hermit. The Mariner endures tremendous
physical agony and starts to recognize the importance of all living things after his lowest point, the
curse. An example of this is when the spell breaks at the point in which the snakes are blessed. As
he regains a sense of beauty, the Mariner observes the snakes and realizes how beautiful they are.
He begins to see things brightly and the mariner s comparisons and references are less pessimistic
and dark.
Hawthorne s My Kinsman, Major Molineux, Robin s Journey is clear. Robin is on a journey to
find Major Molineux and it is his first journey to town. It is ironic about his shrewd youth; as he
continues his journey, he becomes shrewd. His journey is an acquisition of learning, especially
since he only has the education of a youth. When Robin goes into the tavern, he is guided by a
murmur of voices. He is confident enough when speaking to the innkeeper that he is befitted to be
the Major s relative. Robin doesn t understand parts of his journey with the innkeeper as his guide.
As the story moves on, Robin starts to be less confident and instead, more cautious. Doubt begins to
seep in. Although he feels sympathy, he gives into the opportunities that he has. Robin begins to get
desperate and starts to

The Pros and Cons of Birth Control Essay
Women spend over 37 million dollars on birth control annually, making it one of the most
prescribed drugs on the market. 10,540,000 women are currently on some type of orally ingested
birth control. Although only a few side effects are harmful, there are some rare cases of death from
birth control. 23 women in the United States died from the common birth controlpill, Yaz or
Yasmin, just in this past year. So how safe are women that take this? There are many different types
of birth control. The most common type of birth control is the combination pill. The combination

Although it is less effective, many women enjoy having significantly fewer side effects. They re
safer for smokers, diabetics, and heart disease patients, as well as those at risk for blood clots (12
Types of Birth Control.) The only downside about this type of birth control is that you have to
remember to take it the everyday at the same time or else they are rendered useless.
Like the combination pills, there is another type of progestin only birth control. The progestin
only implant is a rod no bigger than a match stick that is highly effective for up to three years.
The rod is inserted under the skin in the arm by a healthcare professional. Although it s very
effective, the cost usually turns people off to this method. The rod usually costs anywhere
between $400 and $800. The Depo Provera is a shot that does what every other birth control
method does. Depo Provera releases hormones that alter the levels of progestin and estrogen. The
benefits are the same as the others by preventing pregnancy and periods but there is a downside
with this method. After one stops taking Depo Provera, it makes it hard to get pregnant for up to 10
months. For some women who have taken this, it took up to 18 months for them become pregnant.
The most popular non digestible type of birth control is the NuvaRing. Just like the combination
pill, it releases progestin and estrogen to stop ovulation. The NuvaRing is not surgically implanted

Maybe this was the actual start of The Turn Of The Screw . At the time the book was written it

dangerous though, evil spirits believed either to get them, to possess the living or to do the
devil s work. People in the 19th century were also intrigued by the after life, including what
happened when you actually died. Henry James family was also included in this. This would
give Henry James a perfect reason to write the novella aimed at a huge proportion of people who
would be actually interested in reading a book involving ghosts. As The Turn of the Screw was
written in the 19th century when most of his family were famous and praised for their study of
the mind and investigations into spirit phenomena, this could have inspired Henry to write the
story. The fact that his older brother was famous and successful man when it came to psychology

renowned for their knowledge seems to be best explanation as to why the novella was written. The

The Dynamic, Broad And Complex Nature Of Cloud Infrastructure
The dynamic, broad and complex nature of cloud infrastructure makes it difficult to provide

operating systems present many challenges to the designer. The common issues include

Inducing heterogeneity into system means using more than one kind of processor. Not only same
kind of processors but different processors can be added to a system to increase the performance.
In order to handle particular tasks heterogeneity incorporates specialized processing capabilities.
Heterogeneous systems use different Instruction Set Architectures (ISA s). The main processor in a
system will have one ISA and the remaining have another. Heterogeneous systems are capable of
using different processor types. They can have CPU s and GPU s embedded on a single integrated
circuit to give best of both. In a heterogeneous system with CPU s and GPU s CPU generally will
be equipped in performing serial tasks and GPU is well known for its graphic capabilities and
intensive computations. GPU s are capable of dealing with large datasets. On the other hand
designing heterogeneous operating systems can impose many challenges one of which may be
binary incompatibility due to different instruction set architectures. Different elements may
interpret memory in different ways. The non uniformity in the system depends on the level of
heterogeneity introduced into the system. Library and other services may not be uniformly
available to all the elements present in the heterogeneous system. Heterogeneous environments

Comparing Pride In The Devil And Tom Walker And The Chase
What is the Tower of Babel? Besides being a big, old building, it is a symbol of the consequence
of pride. The plan was to build a tower that could reach the heavens in order to make a name for
ourselves , but God had different plans. He scattered them and confused the language of the
whole world (Genesis 11). This story is just one of many in the Bible discussing the why the vice
pride is regarded as the worst of the Seven Deadly Sins. Both Washington Irving s The Devil and
Tom Walker and Herman Melville s Moby Dick ( The Chase ) contain this theme, and thus provide
insight on the disastrous results of pride. Washington Irving found inspiration for his short story in
the German legend of Faust, which was a story of a man making... Show more content on

Throughout the story, he seeks to dominate nature, such as when he discusses the wind. He
states that tis a noble and heroic thing, the wind! who ever conquered it?... [it] will not stand to

retaliate with any attack. This is evident in his revenge plan against a sperm whale, Moby Dick.
The beast previously tore off Ahab s leg, so he wanted to kill it. However, he knowingly put the
lives of his crew at risk in an attempt of killing the gargantuan marine mammal. Essentially, that
is exactly what happens their ship, the Pequod is wrecked, and everyone dies. Ahab becomes
tangled in the harpoon water and drowns as the whale dives down. This strongly parallels with
Tom Walker s disappearance, where he is taken by the Devil, showing the harmful results of
displaying pride. On the other hand, the consequences that Tom faced were much less violent than
what happened to Ahab and his crew. Furthermore, the conflict in The Devil and Tom Walker was
not about revenge, but greed as the whole reason Tom dealt with Old Scratch was to get the
buried treasure. All in all, Melville s and Irving s stories are nearly identical in regards to the big
picture, but differ in how the theme is

Colorimetric Assay Lab Report
Creatinine is a waste product filtered by the kidneys into the blood (serum) and urine. High serum,
and/or urine creatinine levels are indicative of kidney dysfunction. A colorimetric assay can be used
to determine the creatinine concentration in the urine and serum samples from patients who are
suspected to have kidneydysfunction.
In the creatinine colorimetric assay the absorbance of the yellow creatinine picric complex, which
is formed from the reaction between creatinine and picric acid, is read spectrophotometrically.
Using spectrophotometric data one can determine the relationship between creatinine concentration
and absorbance by fitting an equation to the creatinine and absorbance data. The equation sets a
standard which can be used to determine the concentration of creatinine in solutions, such as blood
and urine, which contain creatinine.
The colorimetric assay is useful in so far as finding the concentration of creatinine. However, a
diagnosis of kidney dysfunction requires the creatinine concentration in both serum and urine to be
analysed. This is because serum and urine creatinine concentration can vary as function of the
patient s gender, age, size (i.e., body obesity, muscle mass, or malnutrition). This can lead to
creatinine concentration appearing normal when there is an underlying kidney dysfunction, or ...

The Road Not Taken Tone
One of Robert Frost s most well know works: The Road Not Taken , is arguably one of the most
controversial and misunderstood poems. By just reading the title, it seems fairly simple to
assume that the poem is about making choices. When the speaker is presented the two roads he
must make a choice as to which path he will take for he: Could not travel both (Line 2). As the
speaker looks down both paths as far as he can, he deciphers back and forth from believing that the
paths are equal to one path is better over the other. The speaker eventually decides which path to
take and he states that his choice: Has made all the difference (Line 20). The title and plot lead
people to believe that the central theme is about choices and the importance... Show more content

Though he may want to try it out, he comes to terms with the fact that there is no turning back
and that: Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back (Lines
14,15). With these lines, Frost uses the tone of regret and shows that it is the speaker s original
choice that led him to his own new road. To carry on that tone of regret, in the sixteenth line the
speaker states that he: Shall be telling this with a sigh (Line 16). By saying this, the speaker
unintentionally shows that he is nostalgic on the decision of his path. If he were to be told
which path to take, he may not have been in the position of regret. While the speaker was unsure
of his road in the beginning, he also ended up being unsure of if he could take the other path later
on. Yet again, Frost shows that the speaker had to be self reliant in his decisions, showing that he
is alone in the world. Everyone has a journey to take in life and everyone is on their own
individual path. While others may be along for the ride, it is ultimately everyone fighting for
themselves and going places alone. Frost s poem The Road Not Taken shows just this. He uses the
simple task of a fork in the road with a division of paths to show how human desolation is real

The Plea Bargain Is A Vital Part Of The Criminal Justice...
The plea bargain is a vital part of the criminal justice system today. Before the 1800s when an
offender was caught there would be a trial and verdict. The plea bargain are for defendant s to
plead guilty to a lesser offense or to at least one charge especially if there are multiple indictments.
Defendants will plead guilty in hopes of leniency, and at least 90 percent of criminal cases end in a
pleabargains. A majority of criminal cases in many jurisdictions will end in a plea bargaining. In
the case North Carolina v. Alford, Mr. Alford is accused of Capital murder. The penalty for a guilty
plea is imprisonment for life, however, if the defendant pleads innocent and the juryrules him guilty
the death penalty attaches. Prior to the trial, Mr. Alford accepted a plea bargain. The bargaining
requires him to plead guilty to murder in the second degree, the penalty of which is 30 years.
Later on Alford does appeals his case, stating that his agreement to the bargain was involuntary as
it was driven by fear of the death penalty. Mr. Alford s conviction was overturned however, the
Supreme Court states that a guilty plea is a voluntary decision and is not compelled within his
Fifth Amendment rights of Self Incrimination. In a 6 to 3 decision, the Court then reverses the
appeal and reinstates his conviction. This is a great example of how the option of plea bargaining
continues to be controversial. This case shows how plea bargaining can work both in favor and
negatively

Empowerment is the authority or power given to someone to do something, and this is what
Katniss and Atlanta share in their stories which made a mark; which leads others mostly females
what to follow. Bravery is courageous behavior or character this is the foundation that makes
these two characters unique. The bravery that is placed in these two is overwhelming, yet
makes everyone fear what will be next. Pride is a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived
from one s own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated,
or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired. Theses three factors bring theses two
characters together and make them role models of their era. Even though these characters are
similar in many ways they do have their differences. The reasons for this is because Alanta was
not opened to love, even though she was loved by a hero she did not accept it. Unlike Katniess
where she was uposed to love by the two men that both wanted her love. She eventually ended up
with one. Therefore this is how the silimarties an/d differntes are both shown within these stories.

The first three paragraphs of the tale focus largely on the setting because these setting symbolize the
key concept of the story. Settings strengthen the theme and the characters by using the metaphors of
darkness and light. The experiences of the boy in this story portrays how people often expect more
than the real world can provide and then feel they disappointed and disillusioned.
The author refers to the obscure and dark images to make the reality of boy living in the dreary

The Endocrinology Of Male And Female Reproduction
Reproductive physiology is comprised of many tightly coordinated functions of the endocrine
system including the hypothalamus, pituitary and reproductive organs whose dynamic function
plays several critical roles in growth and development as well was reproduction. The hypothalamic
pituitary gonadal axis plays a critical role in the development and regulation of the reproductive
system. These tightly regulated functions within the pituitary must respond to continuously
changing signals from the central nervous system gonads and provide the quick responses. The
hypothalamic pituitary gonadal axis is comprised of major hormones, including gonadotropin
releasing hormone(GnRH), luteinizing hormone(LH) and follicular stimulating hormone (FSH) and
operate through both positive and negative feedback loops in mammals.1 When toxicants affect any
part of this axis s function, either by altering cellular activity or the signals themselves, the
physiology can impacted by immediate and downstream effects. An understanding of the
endocrinology of male and female reproduction, is required to understand how toxicological effects
can have severe consequences on reproductive physiology.
GnRH is a prominent reproductive hormone that is produced in neural cells in the hypothalamus.
GnRH is secreted into the bloodstream where it is carried downstream to the pituitary gland and
activates the Gonadotropin Releasing hormone receptor. 2 Once these cells are activated, signal

The Censorship Of Canadian Content
Rules revolving around Canadian Content (CanCon) have been set in place since the 1920 s. In
2005, revisions to the 1991 Broadcasting Act were made. Since this revision was made there have
been further changes to the Act trying to create the best set of rules for CanCon to be broadcasted
(Dewing, 2011). CanCon is an outdated concept that is causing consumers to switch to other forms
of media. The CanCon rules cannot determine what is considered Canadian and they cannot keep
up with the ever changing forms of media. Canadian producers are only getting a slim portion of
the industry even with the rules in place. Therefore CanCon rules should be totally eliminated.
While technology is getting better and people have begun streaming different forms of media
online, the government has been slow on updating the rules that regulate broadcasted Canadian
Content (Mejaski, 2011). Due to the rapid development of digital technology CanCon rules are now
outdated. This is causing the distinction between broadcasting and telecommunications to be
blurred. New technology has resulted in fragmentation. This refers to the idea that there are is a
growing number of courses that now have to be regulated by CanCon (Dewig, 2011). With the
world technologically progressing Canada has to focus on the idea that the world is becoming
borderless. This idea comes from the thought that technology is bringing the world closer together
because everyone is interconnected now. This will result in the power

The Similarities Between Primates And Chimpanzees
Primates can be defined as an order of mammals that includes apes, humans, monkeys, lemurs,
tarsiers and lorises. According to the evolutionary history, originally primates evolved from their
ancestors who lived on trees. Today there are approximately 235 species of primates, and they all
range in their habitats and sizes. Thus, the biggest primateis lowland gorilla, whose weight is
around 180 kilos, while the smallest one is mouse lemur living on Madagascar. Its weight is only
30 grams. There are different classifications of primates offered by scientists. However the most

The first arboreal theory was considered to be the dominant until it was question and other two
theories appeared. According to the arboreal theory, primate evolved in order to meet the needs
of arboreal life, which means a development of necessary senses or adapting already existing
senses to new life style. For example, since primates lived in the three dimensional world, they
needed a good stereoscopic vision that would allow them easily move through the environment.
Therefore, the orbits of the first primates had been changed in order to achieve stereoscopic
vision. Since the vision has become a primary sense, the sense of smell has reduced and, as a result,
the snout was shortened. Its adaptation of the primates to the environment allowed them to survive.
The second theory known as the visual predation theory contradict the first theory and claims that
all the features of primates mentioned above, including grasping feet and hands, orbital
convergence and the reduced claws, were developed as a result of pressure to forage for insects
and fruits in the forest during the night time. For example, a good orbital vision allows primates to
gauge the prey s distance without additional moving of the head. The third theory is the most recent
among all three theories. According to this theory the primates have undergone the adaptive

Personal Statement On Self Harm
Self harm patients are at a risk for suicide whether this is an intended outcome or a result of self
harm gone wrong. 25% of people who commit suicide will have been seen in a hospital setting
for a self harm injury in the past 12 months (Emerson, 2010). As well, 72% of suicide victims
under the age of 25 have had a history or self harmbehavior (as sited in Cook, Clency, Sanderson,
2004). These statists provide a strong argument for the importance of vigilance and ongoing
monitoring when providing care for clients who display self harm behavior. This paper will argue
the importance for close monitoring when caring for self harm but not necessarily the prevention of
self harm itself. Vigilance and monitoring are important However there is evidence that complete
preventions is not necessarily the best approach to self harm (Duffin, 2006).
The Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders fifth edition (DSM 5) uses the term non
suicidal self injury. Self injury is defined as intentional self inflicted damage to the surface of his or
her body of a sort likely to induce bleeding, bruising, or pain, with the expectation that the injury
will lead to only minor or moderate physical harm (American psychiatric Association, 2013,p803).
There must be an absence of suicidal intent; this is either stated by the patient, or determined by the
fact that the method of harm is not likely to result in death. Although often misunderstood and seen

the primary motivators of individuals as they cause the most amount of passion and debate. Morals
will impact these values and cause them to change to match the situation along with the feelings of
the individual. At times, these values may contradict each other, such as hate and loveor selfishness
versus selflessness, yet these contradictions are necessary for its inverse to exist. Without hate,
love would not exist. Selfless actions could not be recognized if not for selfish actions. The effect
morals have on the individual would go unobserved if there was not a range of beliefs. Although its
values can contradict one another, American values are what drives America to the success that it
praises itself for.
Hate and love are seen as antonyms when in reality the two ideas come in a pair. In order to
hate, one must have known love before for as it is impossible to hate something without caring
about it in some form. It is very easy for love to develop into hate, and vice versa. Hate will lead
to exclusion and bad choices while love will unify and bind the nation together, making it stronger.
Although an individual s or a nation s goal may be for peace, the result can be hatred if proper
steps laid out in Just War Theory are not taken. Just War Theory acknowledges that there

The Golden Age Of Discovery
The Golden Age begins in 1415 and ends in 1578 (Kreis, 2011, para 4).The Golden Age is also
referred to as the Age of Discovery (Kreis, 2011, para 4).This age of discovery was entailed in
exploring the coast of Africa (Bamber, 2001, para 6).
A sailing school was established in Sagres which promoted more expeditions, which led to
exploring multiple islands and made expansions of Portugal s empire possible (Bamber, 2001, para

We as a group identify the acts of the Portuguese empire s willingness to expand as a form of
Expansionist nationalism founded on the principles of power to expand with the use of hard
power, under the discipline of a single supreme leader (Heywood, 2014:120).Expansion
Nationalism suggested by Thompson is seen as putting the best foot forward (Thompson,
1998:253). Expansive nations seem to sell their resources to gain foreigners (by promoting their
religion or culture) (Thompson, 1998:253).Expansionist nationalism is seen as a militaristic and

Language, Subsistence Practices, Kinship And Descent,...
In this paper I will be discussing in depth the Maori people. I will include a short background and a
quick summary of history and then describe a few aspects of their culture including: language,
subsistence practices, kinship and descent, marriage and household, beliefs and worship, and a
unique cultural practice.
The Maori, culturally Polynesians, are the indigenous inhabitants of New Zealand. The people who
call themselves the Maori are originally from the Polynesian islands and settled in New Zealand
around the 13th century. The tribes of the Maori did not identify themselves by a collective name
until European settlers arrived and then the use of the name Maori, which means ordinary came
into use. The Maori today make up about 15% (565,329 people) of New Zealand s population
with the majority living in urban area, while there are still few who live in the ancestral tribal
areas. Many also live overseas with 70,000 in Australia and 10,000 in England.
Around 1300 AD, a great migration of people set sail for what is now New Zealand. These
people came in seven very large canoes called Waka which were built to withstand rough seas
and carry many people including all of their possessions over long journeys. The present day
Maori people can trace their origins to the various Waka. The settlers from each Waka separated
into tribes called iwi . As time went on and population grew, the people spread out through the land
and created a social structure with iwi (tribes), hapu

Apocalypse Now, Apocalypse Forever
Apocalypse Now, Apocalypse Forever
Francis Ford Coppola s magnum opus Apocalypse Now was ladened with problems and
difficulties before and after filming. These problems ranged from those having to do with the cast
and crew, to those having to do with the circumstances surrounding the filming, to those having to
do with the script, to those dealing in direct regard to the very sanity of all of those involved with
Apocalypse Now. Despite the myriad of problems that contributed to this acclaimed film s failure,
Apocalypse Now still became a success in its own right, and a true classic by any director s
standards.

He chose to set a feel for his scenes unknown , then have the actors improvise what was going to
happen (Behr). Coppola also had these actors make lists of what they felt that their characters
should do in different situations (Behr). This caused an effect of the script writing itself, as well as
creating a deeper rift between it and the source material. Marlon Brando, who portrayed Kurtz, fed
the fire of deep confusion where the script was concerned. Both Heart of Darkness, and Milius
original script, as well as Coppola s later interpretation of these, called for the character of Kurtz
to be a frail, sickly, and dying man. Brando, however, refused to get into shape as Coppola had
requested. Brando was in fact so fat during filming that he was shy about it (Behr). Coppola first
suggested that he rewrite the script to accommodate the character to Brando by setting him up as
a gluttonous, man consumed by his own evil excesses (Behr). Brando refused to be undignified
in his portrayal, so the filming, as well as the writing remained stagnant for days on end. In the
end Coppola merely set Brando and Sheen free to improvise for three weeks, leaving him with an
incoherent batch of footage that, with the exception of the death lines of The Horror! The Horror!
(Conrad) had little to do with the script, or the novel. Time and money

National Identification Card Won’t Work Essay
National Identification Card Won t Work
The debate on National Identification card has restarted since the terrorists attacked the World
Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. The issue of introducing the National
Identification Card came into people s view after a long time hoping that it would reduce the danger
of terrorism in the future. United States is not the only one country who is introducing the National
Identification Card. There are other hundreds of countries that have already had National
Identification Card in use in order to improve security in the country, assist law enforcement and
make a delivery of services more efficiently to all the citizens of the nation. People think that

Introduced new license could alert the authorities about each and every action of the suspected
terrorist.
But the National Identification card will have some biometrics data like finger print, retinal Scan,
iris scanning which people thinks that it would be hard to forge. Using biometrics data such as
fingerprints and retina scan can help in verifying that the card actually belongs to the cardholder
(Clement). More likely people are thinking about introducing the smart card which when swiped
will show all the information like where you are and what you are doing while smart cards are
among the most secure technologies available.
National ID card could combine the functions of a driver s license, social security registration,
immigration documents, and other government issued identification so that it would be easier
to carry just one card instead of all these form of identification. Once the card is issued then
every individual is required to carry and present an officially issued ID card when asked, and it
would also be required to get particular services. If the card cannot be presented on demand then
that person would be regarded with suspension. If the person who forgot or lost the card falls
under the minority group then the person becomes a suspect and might get some kind of charges or
might even go to jail.
National security is good but not at the cost of personal freedom (Dye). Demanding ID card at any
time will be considered as the freedom

The Race And Racial Struggle Essay
Numerous scholars and historians believe that Hitler s ideas concerning race and racial struggle
have originated from the philosophies of Charles Darwin, either directly or through various
other sources. In today s context, the word racism means to dislike an individual or a group of
individuals based on the color of their skin. However, during the mid twentieth century, the word
racism meant to dislike a group of individuals because they were intellectually and/or morally
inferior. Thus, it becomes the responsibility of the superior race to take control of the inferior
race, or wipe them out completely in the case of Adolf Hitler. Hitler attempted to create and
protect the superior race from the inferior race by implementing administrative policies designed
to protect the former. This belief of superiority comes from Darwin s theory of survival of the
fittest which argued that there are significant inequalities within each species and that some
species get taken advantage of while others take advantage of others. //This evolutionary theory
could have been used as a justification for Hitler to do something he would have done anyhow, to
exterminate roughly six million Jews who, according to him, belonged to the inferior race . It is
fairly clear that Darwin did not mean for his work to be interpreted the way it did; however, it can
be argued that Hitler used this theory of progress through the elimination of the weak as a method
to rationalize his actions to his

Metro s Budget Scenario
Dennis Anosike, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), provided a financial briefing on Metro s fiscal
year 2018 (FY18) budget. The discussion began with a short recap of the fiscal year 2017
(FY17) budget. In FY17 the budget process was managed by Metro s Board. To balance the
budget, the Board opted to take a series of one time options. This resulted in a balance budgetwith
no fare increases. The GM proposed a 3 billion dollar budget to Metro s Board for FY18. The
Operating budget is 1.8B, and the Capital side of the budget is 1.25B. Compared to last year, the
capital budget is approximately 250 million dollars higher, while the Operating budget is
approximately 2% higher than last year. The CFO stated that the budget proposal by the GM is

The GM s budget is designed to address three major areas:reliability; safety; and fiscal
responsibility. Mr. Anosike stated that Metro s Operating budget, includes the following
reductions: 1) reduces staff by 1000 positions; 2) requires that customers contribute more for
services on Metrobus, Metrorail, MetroAccess and parking; 3) and indirectly it impacts
customers because it reduces service. Additionally, the GM s budget directs the jurisdictions to
provide an additional 130M. Together, these things are expected to yield an increase of 290M in
overall funding and aid in balancing the budget. For some time, Metro has experienced low
ridership on Metrobus and Metrorail. This is due to SafeTrack and other issues. Mr. Anosike
reiterated his comments about the development of the FY18 budget. To balance the budget in a
way that would be fair yet the least impactful to customers the GM submitted the Board a balance
proposal FY2018 budget. In response to a question about who make the final decision, Mr. Anosike
stated that the Board makes the final decision on the

Shintoism In Princess Mononoke
Princess Mononoke was released in 1997, and became the highest grossing film in Japan until
Titanic came out later that year. It was meant to be director Hayao Miyazaki s last film before he
went into retirement, and is praised as one of his absolute masterpieces. Today, I will be critiquing
two articles that discuss aspects of Princess Mononokes themes and influences, one that relates
Shintoism to Miyazaki s narratives by Oscar Garza, and another that focuses on the icons found
throughout his filmography by Mohammad Amzad Hossain and Wei Hsin Fu.
First a quick summary: Princess Mononoke follows the last prince of the Emishi named
Ashitaka who, when defending his village from a demonic boar, is cursed to die. In order to lift
the curse, Ashitaka travels west and finds Iron Town, a mining settlement on the outskirts of a
divine forest. He meets their leader, Lady Eboshi, who is currently at war with the forest gods.
Disapproving of the violence that the town people partake in against the forest, Ashitaka seeks to
meet with the gods and their human daughter, San. The dwellers of the forest wish to kill all the
humans in an attempt to take back their home. Now Ashitaka must become a peace keeper and
stop an all out war, hoping that by doing so the Shishigami, also known as the Forest Spirit, will
lift the curse.
Oscar Garza s Hayao Miyazaki and Shinto: A Spiritual Connection employs the theory of
structuralism, the idea of relating aspects of cultural practices and their

New York s Jewish Museum
Crowdsourced Documentation September 16, 2016, Take me (I m Yours) took place at New York
s Jewish Museum, as its first ever exhibition made possible by the digital crowdfunding campaign
via Kickstarter. With a total $31,018 pledged, 340 backers helped forty two international and
intergenerational artists create 400,000+ artworks to be given away during this unconventional
exhibition, visitors are encouraged to participate, touch, and even take the artworks on view home
with them. Crowdfunding has become commonplace in the art world, but the Jewish Museum
launched its first Kickstarter campaign for a number of reasons, of course, in order to fabricate the
thousands upon thousands of artworks needed to keep the show fully stocked throughout its run.
Also, through Kickstarter platform, it creates a real Receive Me (I m Yours) dynamic for reaching
a real community around the museum, staging a online dialogue with its donors, eventually
orchestrating a unique network in which participatory behaviours translate the collective online
vision into physical space. Take me (I m Yours) aims to create a democratic space for all visitors to
take ownership of artworks, and curate their personal art collections, by subverting typical museum
practices. Visitors constantly transform the landscape of the galleries, bit by bit, through direct
engagement, eventually the exhibition will disappear entirely. (Museum, 2016a) Take Me (I m

Lake s Assertion Of Religious Conflict
Lake s assertion that religious conflict in early Stuart England was the result of a pursuit of
traditional conformity by the Puritans holds true to a large extent. In the earlier half of the 17th
Century, the Puritans have consistently sought for reforms to make changes to the English Church,
with an unfaltering insistence of removing any perceived popish practices to create church in the
model of a more traditional Calvinism. He should not, however, go as far as to proclaim that there
was no rise of Arminianismas there was indeed an ostensible influx of Arminianism during the
reign of Charles I. Arminianism did burgeoned steadily, especially under the quasi Catholic
policies of Charles I and innovations that William Laud brought to the Church. However, with or
without the antagonistic ideological differences of Arminianism and Calvinism, there was always
the constant seeking of reforms by the Puritans, to move as far away from Catholicism as
possible. The introduction of Arminianism merely created a politically assertive Puritanism . The
fear that Arminian practices would force the English Church towards a more Catholic liked system
invoked fear amongst the Puritans resulting in a call for more sweeping changes . The Puritans
wanted change before any major form of Arminianism took shape and with the latter s increasing
influence from the 1620s, puritans simply became more aggressive in seeking reforms. The
accession of James I in 1603 saw the Millenary

Compare And Contrast Heroidotus And Herodotus
Are those who do not learn from history truly doomed to repeat it? Many an old adage, as well as
prevalent historical figures such as Winston Churchill, definitely say so. After all, as the inevitable
progression of time and technology pushes forward, the needs and wants of mankind remain the
same. For the most part, the human mind is a constant variable, and there are invaluable lessons to
be learned from our predecessors ancients and pioneers alike. The fortunate news is, there exists,
and will continue to be (at least for the near future) a vast collection of historical resources. A new
question is posed however; what defines the potency of a source? In many ways, two ancient
historians named Herodotusand Thucydideshelped define and set the ground work for what
historical writing consists of. Herodotus, being the older of the two, is flatteringly renowned as the
father of history, as he provided the world with its first account of a true historical narrative The
Histories. Both men lived roughly from the early portion of the 4th Century b.c up until the latter
end of the century, and the purposes of their works agreed in principal, but in principal only. For
instance, Thucydides authored History of the Peloponnesian War, in which he chronicles the
friction between Sparta and Athens. On the other hand, The Histories documents the Greco Persian
wars in its own unique way, of course. Certainly, the congruency between these two texts ends with
the fact that they

Essay about The Consequences of Excessive Government...
The fact that there are areas in which government is needed cannot be denied. The state
collecting taxes for the provision of things such as roads, bridges, police departments, fire
departments, or even a safety net for those that fall on hard times, as long as it is well regulated
are all reasonable uses. I will also not deny that there are areas where central government
intervention is needed. Regulation to prevent monopolies, ensuring segregation of public schools
and facilities, and protection of rights, to name a few, are perfectly acceptable functions of central
government. Big government is not the answer, it is actually a big part of the problem, especially
when meddling with the economy. In this paper, I am going to dispute... Show more content on

(Cowan, 1985). The economy didn t actually turn around until Ludwig Erhard, German Economic
Director, introduced monetary reform and abolished all of the ACC economic controls (Cowan,
1985). Monthly production skyrocketed to highs not seen even after Marshall plan aid started to
arrive(Cowan, 1985). Doug Bandow, senior fellow at the Cato institute, echoes Cowan s study by
pointing out that the European economy that performed the worst, Great Britain, actually received
the most Marshall Plan aid (Bandow, 1997). Madrick also points to LBJ s Great Society, and FDR
s new deal as big government successes (McKenna Feingold, 2012). There are many economists
that can point to facts showing the New Deal actually prolonged the Great Depression. LBJ s war on
poverty has not decreased poverty. When the war on poverty was enacted the poverty level was
at 6%, today the poverty level, according to the 2010 census, is at 14% (CNN Money, 2010). If
government intervention in the economy is indeed a good thing, perhaps Mr. Madrick can explain
why poverty has increased since the enactment of the Great Society? Madrick believes laws that
call for higher wages and aid in unionization are good for the economy (McKenna Feingold, 2012).

  • 2. How To Change Fate In Macbeth Every person has their own specific personalities, which can then determine what their fate is and how easily their fate can be changed. A weaker person has more of a possibility of their fate being manipulated by other people, whereas a more outspoken person has a smaller possibility of their fate being influenced by others. Although fate can be affected by other people, but you are the one who ultimately changes your fate and your decisions are what decided your fate. Throughout the entirety of Macbeth, there have been very many different personalities shown and many different changed fates. Macbethbegan the book as a weaker and an easily manipulated character that was willing to do anything to gain any form of power. While in his power hungry state, Macbeth made bad decisions which created a bad fate for him. Macbeth s need for power and his weak state allowed the witches to come into his life and affect... Macbeth thought To be thus is nothing, but to be safely thus meaning it means nothing to be king if he is not safe as the king, and that one short statement showed that Macbeth would do anything and was going to do anything that stood in the way of him safely being king (3.1.51 80). Macbeth stated There is none but he whose being I do fear showing that he will kill anyone that could possibly stand in the way of his future children getting the crown (3.1.51 80). The witches created an even more power hungry, now murderer, all because he knew his fate, and he would do anything to anyone so that his fate would only go in his favor. Macbeth saw the opportunity to try and change his and Banquo s fate, so he tried to change it, but in doing so he changed his future for the worst by having these many threats ... • 3. Enzyme And The Enzyme Of Enzyme Enzyme Lab Enzymes are catalysts that speed up chemical reactions without being used up in the process (Leady). A catalyst helps speed up a chemical reaction without being changed during the reaction. Enzymes are specific meaning that they can work with only a specific set of chemical reactions. Most enzyme names end in ase. The shape of a protein is very important in its function for the reaction. The molecule the enzyme works on is called a substrate. In order for this enzyme to work on this reaction the substrate must first fit into an activation site. When an enzyme binds to its substrate, it is called an enzyme substrate complex. The resulting chemicals from the reaction are called the products. Enzymes can be affected by a few ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All enzymes work best at a specific pH making the reaction better. A few examples of enzymes and their pH level are Pepsin and Trypsin. Pepsin is a stomach enzyme works best at a pH of 2, which is acidic. Trypsin and many other enzymes of the small intestines work better at a higher pH which is basic. By increasing the amount of enzyme or substrate molecules is known to increase the concentration to the solution (Effect). As the amounts of enzymes are increasing in the reaction, the rate of the reaction is also increasing. Furthermore, as the amount of the substrate is increasing, the reaction rate increases up to the point where the enzyme is fully occupied and then the rate levels off. Hypothesis/prediction: If the temperature in the solution of the enzyme peroxidase increases, next the rate of peroxidase will also rise because the warmer the solution, the faster the molecules move, thus causing increased collisions between substrate and enzyme. If the temperature in the solution decreases, the rate of reaction will decrease because a colder solution forces molecules to move a lot slower, causing the amount of collisions between enzyme and substrate to decrease. Methods: For this experiment, we utilized the lab manual Basics of Life Science by Brenda ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of Arts In Education Some schools in the United States offer a variety of arts programs, while other schools may have mediocre to non existent arts programs. Students in their early years of schooling from elementary to high school depending on whether he or she has an arts education can affect them in the long run. Art programs since the 1980s have integrated into public education, however the No Child Left Behind act has since put the arts in the decline. According to Americans, 93% of them agree the arts are vital to providing a well rounded education for children and 86% agree that arts education encourages and assists in the improvement of a child s attitude toward school. Under the No Child Left Behind Act, passed in 2002, the federal government started assessing school districts by their students scores on reading and mathematics tests. Due to having reading and mathematics as the core way of assessing how much a school does and how much it receives in federal funding, schools focus more on reading and math over anything else including art. Deep budget cuts on the art education at the benefit of mathematics and reading has long lasting effects on schools that do so. According to National Endowment for the Arts 2015 Annual Report, many state and local organizations depend on federal funding to sustain accessible arts programs throughout the country. With funding being limited, art has to be reduced as it s deemed unimportant. Furthermore a study titled The Role of the Fine and Performing Arts in High School Dropout Prevention, by the Center for Music Research at Florida State University, Students at risk of not successfully completing their high school educations cite their participation in the arts as reasons for staying in school. • 5. Harriet Jacobs, Wheatley, And Olaudah Equiano Throughout the years, many people have attempted to portray the hardships and struggles of slaves based on what they learned or what they might have been taught. But realistically, there is no way for anyone to understand the lives that many blacks were forced into because they have never actually experienced it themselves. During slavery, blacks were separated from their families and pushed into a lifestyle that was dehumanizing and depressing. Their everyday lives were being watched and harsh punishments were being given for reasons that were unethical. Harriet Jacobs, Phyllis Wheatley, and Olaudah Equiano wrote about the different struggles that they faced as slaves in order to give readers an understanding from their point of view. In... • 6. The Causes Of The Border Patrol This scenario is playing out on America s borders every day. The organization that manages the Border Patrol, Customs and Border Protection, has become the largest federal law enforcement agency in the nation, and with that distinction comes some scrutiny. Two articles were written, the first by The New York Times, the other by the Associated Press, that highlighted some disturbing trends within the agency. The number of Border Patrol agents more than doubled between 2004 and 2011, when they grew to over 20,000 employees, and that number continued to rise, reaching over 21,000 today. Since...September 11, 2001, the focus of the Border Patrol has changed to detection, apprehension and/or deterrence of terrorists or terrorist weapons, but as the agency uses that motto to grow its, it has become increasingly clear that they are more concerned with keeping certain people out than keeping the border safe. Increase in suicides among Border Patrol agents causes alarm, by the Associated Press Paul J. Weber addresses the disturbing trend of suicides among Border Patrol agents. Between February 2008 and August 2010, 15 Border Patrol agents had taken their own lives. There had not been a single suicide in the agency for four years prior to that point. To further illustrate the significance of that trend: the national rate of suicide at the time was 12 for every 100,000 people. The Border Patrol s rate was at 30 per 100,000. In the case of the Walt DisneyCompany, although the company had conflict within the organization, this did not hinder its competitiveness. Conflict Resolution Managing conflict for organizations is very important in maintaining business relationships, especially ones that are profitable like that of Disney Pixar. At the helm of the Walt Disney Company during the begging and end of these feuds was Michael Eisner and Bob Iger. Even though Michael Eisner is the one responsible for the conflict with Disney and Pixar, he should be equally responsible for trying to fix the damaged relationship. When trying to manage conflict there are several approaches that can be taken to resolve the conflict at hand: dominating, accommodating, problem solving, avoiding and compromising. Eisner s Style.Michael s style of conflict resolution can be described as dominating. The dominating approach to conflict resolution involves using its power over the individual to force them into a resolution that is only beneficial to their interests. Being that Eisner has held some sort of power over the parties involved, such as controlling budgets of the involved parties or having a hierarchical position within the company, such as the CEO, he uses this type of approach to solve resolutions. • 8. Social Pressure And Voter Turnout Essay While reading a variety of political science articles I have found the conventional wisdom on a multitude of influences and their correlation with voter turnout. Generally what I found while reading is that there is often a motivational factor that causes a person to perform their civic duty by voting . My understanding of the conventional wisdom is that when there is some source of social pressure motivations, it often leads to an increase in voter turnout. Adding to the belief that social pressures influence voter turnout, Alan Gerber, Donald Green and Christopher Larimer in Social Pressure and Voter Turnout: Evidence from a Large Scale Field Experiment, test the effects of priming intrinsic motives and applying varying degrees and extrinsic pressure. Their research attempts to show the extent by which social pressure increases voter turnout. Higher voting poll turnout was observed among those who received the letters promising to publish their turnout record to their household or their neighbor. This remarkable increase in turnout, observe the authors, exceeds the effect of live phone calls and rivals the effect of face to face contact with canvassers conducting get out the vote campaigns. They argue that social pressure is most effective in increasing voter turnout than other methods. The most damaging form of trauma is interpersonal trauma which is far more likely than other traumas, such as car accidents, to give rise to posttraumatic symptoms (Van der Kolk, 1989). Without constant redirection, nurturing and advice especially in vulnerable communities like impoverished homes and poor neighborhoods external negative influences can neglect can set in triggering PTSD like symptoms. In short, without parental monitoring, children do not learn the necessities in order to live life to the fullest. Music explains PTSD to include intrusive thoughts and flashbacks. Interpersonal trauma refers to injuries and neglect that can be sustained within families. Children are negatively impacted by neglect because if the parent is unable to meet the child s basic and psychological needs, then not only is the child at risk, but the parent is demonstrating irresponsible behavior. • 12. The Dark Side Of Dark Net Markets In a world of ever dwindling freedoms one of the last bastions of completely unregulated and free trade is the deep web, and even though a plethora of dangerous illegal activity goes on within it, it should be left alone. Even if the deep web and all the markets hidden within it are somehow shut down, people will find a new haven to carry on their activity. There will always be a bastion for illegal activity somewhere, and there is nothing anyone can do to change that fact. Dark net markets aren t the only thing hiding in the deep webeither, there are entire communities that house themselves within it. Something I find myself pondering quite a bit about these days is that a lot of the technology that has become so embedded in our lives seems so science fiction like, but are we ready for it? Something that we have in our culture that not many people know about is the dark net or deep web. Like a cyberpunk novel, it s an entire underground culture based in the vast world of the internet, our modern day virtual information highway. It is used for all colors of illegal activity; drug trafficking, human trafficking, counterfeit products, a disturbing amount of illegal pornography (most of it is just that, same with the surface webas well), weapons, hitmen, questionable literature, all the things the government veils with its law. One of the drawbacks in my communication skill enhancement is that I don t think it works well in UK, in this multicultural university I have struggled to communicate effectively with students and teachers. This can be explained by Hoftsede s structure of cultural dimensions (Hofstede, Hofstede, and Minkov, 2010). In his framework he explains the world as complex of diverse nations and people, who act, think and perform differently (Hoftsede et al., 2010). When he comes back to his home in the wake of strolling at night, he finds that guests have ceased by, which prompts him to remark both on his strict separation from others while at the lake and on the non literal space between men. There is closeness in his association with nature, which gives adequate fraternity and blocks the likelihood of forlornness. The immensity of the universe puts the space between men in context. Thoreau brings up that on the off chance that we accomplish a more prominent closeness to nature and the heavenly, we won t require physical nearness to others in the station, the mail station, the tavern, the meeting house, the school building places that offer the sort of organization that diverts and disperses. The Federal Budget For The United States The Federal budget for the United States is a very important part of what the president must put together every year so every department in the government can know what they will be able to spend in the upcoming year. Government spending generally exceeds the budget put in place which is why America is so far into debt, the good thing about the budget is that about 21% of it goes back into the economy. The fiscal policy is how the government spendingand taxation influence the economy based on what goods and services are purchased or the taxes collected. The federal budget is split into three parts the mandatory spending, discretionary spending, and interest on debt. It may seem like the interest on debt would need the biggest part of the budget because the U.S. is trillions of dollars in debt, but this part of the budget actually takes up the least amount of money. The mandatory and discretionary take up a little over 90% of the whole budget paying for all of the services the government provides citizens. The discretionary spending in the United States mostly goes to the military forces and pentagon, while a very small part of that budget goes to education, health services, food assistance, among many others. • 21. Summary Of The Speech Of Miss Polly Baker Ben Franklin is known for a slew of accomplishments in his life as a Founding Father of the United States. An inventor and author, among other occupations, Ben Franklin grew quite a fan base in his lifetime, despite having such progressive beliefs. One of his most progressive pieces of writing, The Speech of Miss Polly Baker, discusses the inequality surrounding laws against having children outside of marriage, specifically regarding how it impacted women. In Benjamin Franklins The Speech of Miss Polly Baker, Franklin uses wit to effectively argue that the sexist punishments of laws against having children out of wedlock are absurd by appealing to the reader s ethos, logos, and pathos through the voice of Polly Baker (Franklin, 242 44). Ben Franklin appeals to the reader s ethos by having Polly reference her character and her similar beliefs with the judge. On numerous occasions, Polly touts her character to the judge in order to establish trust which, in turn, establishes trust with the reader. She states that she has lived an inoffensive life and asks for the judge to ask her enemies if she has ever harmed a soul, for she does not believe she has (Franklin, 242). Polly also only uses polite terms to reference the judge, though this can also be seen as a light form of mocking from Ben Franklin, as she always calls him Honourable when she also disagrees with him fervently (242). Moreover, Polly references the past four times she has been sentenced and how she has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

High serum, and/or urine creatinine levels are indicative of kidney dysfunction. A colorimetric assay can be used to determine the creatinine concentration in the urine and serum samples from patients who are suspected to have kidneydysfunction. In the creatinine colorimetric assay the absorbance of the yellow creatinine picric complex, which is formed from the reaction between creatinine and picric acid, is read spectrophotometrically. Using spectrophotometric data one can determine the relationship between creatinine concentration and absorbance by fitting an equation to the creatinine and absorbance data. The equation sets a standard which can be used to determine the concentration of creatinine in solutions, such as blood and urine, which contain creatinine. The colorimetric assay is useful in so far as finding the concentration of creatinine. However, a diagnosis of kidney dysfunction requires the creatinine concentration in both serum and urine to be analysed. • 31. The Road Not Taken Tone One of Robert Frost s most well know works: The Road Not Taken , is arguably one of the most controversial and misunderstood poems. By just reading the title, it seems fairly simple to assume that the poem is about making choices. When the speaker is presented the two roads he must make a choice as to which path he will take for he: Could not travel both (Line 2). As the speaker looks down both paths as far as he can, he deciphers back and forth from believing that the paths are equal to one path is better over the other. The speaker eventually decides which path to take and he states that his choice: Has made all the difference (Line 20). The title and plot lead people to believe that the central theme is about choices and the importance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though he may want to try it out, he comes to terms with the fact that there is no turning back and that: Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back (Lines 14,15). With these lines, Frost uses the tone of regret and shows that it is the speaker s original choice that led him to his own new road. To carry on that tone of regret, in the sixteenth line the speaker states that he: Shall be telling this with a sigh (Line 16). By saying this, the speaker unintentionally shows that he is nostalgic on the decision of his path. If he were to be told which path to take, he may not have been in the position of regret. While the speaker was unsure of his road in the beginning, he also ended up being unsure of if he could take the other path later on. Yet again, Frost shows that the speaker had to be self reliant in his decisions, showing that he is alone in the world. Everyone has a journey to take in life and everyone is on their own individual path. While others may be along for the ride, it is ultimately everyone fighting for themselves and going places alone. Frost s poem The Road Not Taken shows just this. He uses the simple task of a fork in the road with a division of paths to show how human desolation is real ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Plea Bargain Is A Vital Part Of The Criminal Justice... The plea bargain is a vital part of the criminal justice system today. Before the 1800s when an offender was caught there would be a trial and verdict. The plea bargain are for defendant s to plead guilty to a lesser offense or to at least one charge especially if there are multiple indictments. Defendants will plead guilty in hopes of leniency, and at least 90 percent of criminal cases end in a pleabargains. A majority of criminal cases in many jurisdictions will end in a plea bargaining. In the case North Carolina v. Alford, Mr. Alford is accused of Capital murder. The penalty for a guilty plea is imprisonment for life, however, if the defendant pleads innocent and the juryrules him guilty the death penalty attaches. Prior to the trial, Mr. Alford accepted a plea bargain. The bargaining requires him to plead guilty to murder in the second degree, the penalty of which is 30 years. Later on Alford does appeals his case, stating that his agreement to the bargain was involuntary as it was driven by fear of the death penalty. Mr. Alford s conviction was overturned however, the Supreme Court states that a guilty plea is a voluntary decision and is not compelled within his Fifth Amendment rights of Self Incrimination. In a 6 to 3 decision, the Court then reverses the appeal and reinstates his conviction. This is a great example of how the option of plea bargaining continues to be controversial. This case shows how plea bargaining can work both in favor and negatively ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Settings strengthen the theme and the characters by using the metaphors of darkness and light. The author refers to the obscure and dark images to make the reality of boy living in the dreary town of Araby more eloquent. • 35. The Endocrinology Of Male And Female Reproduction Reproductive physiology is comprised of many tightly coordinated functions of the endocrine system including the hypothalamus, pituitary and reproductive organs whose dynamic function plays several critical roles in growth and development as well was reproduction. The hypothalamic pituitary gonadal axis plays a critical role in the development and regulation of the reproductive system. These tightly regulated functions within the pituitary must respond to continuously changing signals from the central nervous system gonads and provide the quick responses. The hypothalamic pituitary gonadal axis is comprised of major hormones, including gonadotropin releasing hormone(GnRH), luteinizing hormone(LH) and follicular stimulating hormone (FSH) and operate through both positive and negative feedback loops in mammals.1 When toxicants affect any part of this axis s function, either by altering cellular activity or the signals themselves, the physiology can impacted by immediate and downstream effects. An understanding of the endocrinology of male and female reproduction, is required to understand how toxicological effects can have severe consequences on reproductive physiology. GnRH is a prominent reproductive hormone that is produced in neural cells in the hypothalamus. GnRH is secreted into the bloodstream where it is carried downstream to the pituitary gland and activates the Gonadotropin Releasing hormone receptor. 2 Once these cells are activated, signal transduction ... Since this revision was made there have been further changes to the Act trying to create the best set of rules for CanCon to be broadcasted (Dewing, 2011). CanCon is an outdated concept that is causing consumers to switch to other forms of media. The CanCon rules cannot determine what is considered Canadian and they cannot keep up with the ever changing forms of media. Canadian producers are only getting a slim portion of the industry even with the rules in place. Therefore CanCon rules should be totally eliminated. While technology is getting better and people have begun streaming different forms of media online, the government has been slow on updating the rules that regulate broadcasted Canadian Content (Mejaski, 2011). Due to the rapid development of digital technology CanCon rules are now outdated. This is causing the distinction between broadcasting and telecommunications to be blurred. New technology has resulted in fragmentation. This refers to the idea that there are is a growing number of courses that now have to be regulated by CanCon (Dewig, 2011). According to the arboreal theory, primate evolved in order to meet the needs of arboreal life, which means a development of necessary senses or adapting already existing senses to new life style. For example, since primates lived in the three dimensional world, they needed a good stereoscopic vision that would allow them easily move through the environment. Therefore, the orbits of the first primates had been changed in order to achieve stereoscopic vision. Since the vision has become a primary sense, the sense of smell has reduced and, as a result, the snout was shortened. Its adaptation of the primates to the environment allowed them to survive. The second theory known as the visual predation theory contradict the first theory and claims that all the features of primates mentioned above, including grasping feet and hands, orbital convergence and the reduced claws, were developed as a result of pressure to forage for insects and fruits in the forest during the night time. For example, a good orbital vision allows primates to gauge the prey s distance without additional moving of the head. The third theory is the most recent among all three theories. Personal Statement On Self Harm Self harm patients are at a risk for suicide whether this is an intended outcome or a result of self harm gone wrong. 25% of people who commit suicide will have been seen in a hospital setting for a self harm injury in the past 12 months (Emerson, 2010). As well, 72% of suicide victims under the age of 25 have had a history or self harmbehavior (as sited in Cook, Clency, Sanderson, 2004). These statists provide a strong argument for the importance of vigilance and ongoing monitoring when providing care for clients who display self harm behavior. This paper will argue the importance for close monitoring when caring for self harm but not necessarily the prevention of self harm itself. Vigilance and monitoring are important However there is evidence that complete preventions is not necessarily the best approach to self harm (Duffin, 2006). The Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders fifth edition (DSM 5) uses the term non suicidal self injury. Self injury is defined as intentional self inflicted damage to the surface of his or her body of a sort likely to induce bleeding, bruising, or pain, with the expectation that the injury will lead to only minor or moderate physical harm (American psychiatric Association, 2013,p803). Hate and love, as well as selfishness and selflessness are the primary motivators of individuals as they cause the most amount of passion and debate. Morals will impact these values and cause them to change to match the situation along with the feelings of the individual. At times, these values may contradict each other, such as hate and loveor selfishness versus selflessness, yet these contradictions are necessary for its inverse to exist. Without hate, love would not exist. Selfless actions could not be recognized if not for selfish actions. The effect morals have on the individual would go unobserved if there was not a range of beliefs. Although its values can contradict one another, American values are what drives America to the success that it praises itself for. Hate and love are seen as antonyms when in reality the two ideas come in a pair. In order to hate, one must have known love before for as it is impossible to hate something without caring about it in some form. It is very easy for love to develop into hate, and vice versa. I will include a short background and a quick summary of history and then describe a few aspects of their culture including: language, subsistence practices, kinship and descent, marriage and household, beliefs and worship, and a unique cultural practice. The Maori, culturally Polynesians, are the indigenous inhabitants of New Zealand. The people who call themselves the Maori are originally from the Polynesian islands and settled in New Zealand around the 13th century. The tribes of the Maori did not identify themselves by a collective name until European settlers arrived and then the use of the name Maori, which means ordinary came into use. The Maori today make up about 15% (565,329 people) of New Zealand s population with the majority living in urban area, while there are still few who live in the ancestral tribal areas. Many also live overseas with 70,000 in Australia and 10,000 in England. Around 1300 AD, a great migration of people set sail for what is now New Zealand. These people came in seven very large canoes called Waka which were built to withstand rough seas and carry many people including all of their possessions over long journeys. The present day Maori people can trace their origins to the various Waka. The settlers from each Waka separated into tribes called iwi . Coppola also had these actors make lists of what they felt that their characters should do in different situations (Behr). Marlon Brando, who portrayed Kurtz, fed the fire of deep confusion where the script was concerned. Both Heart of Darkness, and Milius original script, as well as Coppola s later interpretation of these, called for the character of Kurtz to be a frail, sickly, and dying man. Brando, however, refused to get into shape as Coppola had requested. Brando was in fact so fat during filming that he was shy about it (Behr). Coppola first suggested that he rewrite the script to accommodate the character to Brando by setting him up as a gluttonous, man consumed by his own evil excesses (Behr). Brando refused to be undignified in his portrayal, so the filming, as well as the writing remained stagnant for days on end. • 46. The Race And Racial Struggle Essay Numerous scholars and historians believe that Hitler s ideas concerning race and racial struggle have originated from the philosophies of Charles Darwin, either directly or through various other sources. In today s context, the word racism means to dislike an individual or a group of individuals based on the color of their skin. However, during the mid twentieth century, the word racism meant to dislike a group of individuals because they were intellectually and/or morally inferior. Thus, it becomes the responsibility of the superior race to take control of the inferior race, or wipe them out completely in the case of Adolf Hitler. Hitler attempted to create and protect the superior race from the inferior race by implementing administrative policies designed to protect the former. This belief of superiority comes from Darwin s theory of survival of the fittest which argued that there are significant inequalities within each species and that some species get taken advantage of while others take advantage of others. //This evolutionary theory could have been used as a justification for Hitler to do something he would have done anyhow, to exterminate roughly six million Jews who, according to him, belonged to the inferior race . It was meant to be director Hayao Miyazaki s last film before he went into retirement, and is praised as one of his absolute masterpieces. Today, I will be critiquing two articles that discuss aspects of Princess Mononokes themes and influences, one that relates Shintoism to Miyazaki s narratives by Oscar Garza, and another that focuses on the icons found throughout his filmography by Mohammad Amzad Hossain and Wei Hsin Fu. First a quick summary: Princess Mononoke follows the last prince of the Emishi named Ashitaka who, when defending his village from a demonic boar, is cursed to die. In order to lift the curse, Ashitaka travels west and finds Iron Town, a mining settlement on the outskirts of a divine forest. Disapproving of the violence that the town people partake in against the forest, Ashitaka seeks to meet with the gods and their human daughter, San. The dwellers of the forest wish to kill all the humans in an attempt to take back their home. Now Ashitaka must become a peace keeper and stop an all out war, hoping that by doing so the Shishigami, also known as the Forest Spirit, will lift the curse. Lake s Assertion Of Religious Conflict Lake s assertion that religious conflict in early Stuart England was the result of a pursuit of traditional conformity by the Puritans holds true to a large extent. In the earlier half of the 17th Century, the Puritans have consistently sought for reforms to make changes to the English Church, with an unfaltering insistence of removing any perceived popish practices to create church in the model of a more traditional Calvinism. He should not, however, go as far as to proclaim that there was no rise of Arminianismas there was indeed an ostensible influx of Arminianism during the reign of Charles I. Arminianism did burgeoned steadily, especially under the quasi Catholic policies of Charles I and innovations that William Laud brought to the Church. However, with or without the antagonistic ideological differences of Arminianism and Calvinism, there was always the constant seeking of reforms by the Puritans, to move as far away from Catholicism as possible. The introduction of Arminianism merely created a politically assertive Puritanism . The fear that Arminian practices would force the English Church towards a more Catholic liked system invoked fear amongst the Puritans resulting in a call for more sweeping changes . The Puritans wanted change before any major form of Arminianism took shape and with the latter s increasing influence from the 1620s, puritans simply became more aggressive in seeking reforms. • 52. Compare And Contrast Heroidotus And Herodotus Are those who do not learn from history truly doomed to repeat it? Many an old adage, as well as prevalent historical figures such as Winston Churchill, definitely say so. After all, as the inevitable progression of time and technology pushes forward, the needs and wants of mankind remain the same. For the most part, the human mind is a constant variable, and there are invaluable lessons to be learned from our predecessors ancients and pioneers alike. The fortunate news is, there exists, and will continue to be (at least for the near future) a vast collection of historical resources. A new question is posed however; what defines the potency of a source? In many ways, two ancient historians named Herodotusand Thucydideshelped define and set the ground work for what historical writing consists of. Herodotus, being the older of the two, is flatteringly renowned as the father of history, as he provided the world with its first account of a true historical narrative The Histories. Both men lived roughly from the early portion of the 4th Century b.c up until the latter end of the century, and the purposes of their works agreed in principal, but in principal only. For instance, Thucydides authored History of the Peloponnesian War, in which he chronicles the friction between Sparta and Athens. On the other hand, The Histories documents the Greco Persian wars in its own unique way, of course. Certainly, the congruency between these two texts ends with the fact that they ... • 53. Essay about The Consequences of Excessive Government... The fact that there are areas in which government is needed cannot be denied. The state collecting taxes for the provision of things such as roads, bridges, police departments, fire departments, or even a safety net for those that fall on hard times, as long as it is well regulated are all reasonable uses. I will also not deny that there are areas where central government intervention is needed. Regulation to prevent monopolies, ensuring segregation of public schools and facilities, and protection of rights, to name a few, are perfectly acceptable functions of central government. Big government is not the answer, it is actually a big part of the problem, especially when meddling with the economy. In this paper, I am going to dispute... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Cowan, 1985). The economy didn t actually turn around until Ludwig Erhard, German Economic Director, introduced monetary reform and abolished all of the ACC economic controls (Cowan, 1985). Monthly production skyrocketed to highs not seen even after Marshall plan aid started to arrive(Cowan, 1985). Doug Bandow, senior fellow at the Cato institute, echoes Cowan s study by pointing out that the European economy that performed the worst, Great Britain, actually received the most Marshall Plan aid (Bandow, 1997). Madrick also points to LBJ s Great Society, and FDR s new deal as big government successes (McKenna Feingold, 2012). There are many economists that can point to facts showing the New Deal actually prolonged the Great Depression. LBJ s war on poverty has not decreased poverty. When the war on poverty was enacted the poverty level was at 6%, today the poverty level, according to the 2010 census, is at 14% (CNN Money, 2010). If government intervention in the economy is indeed a good thing, perhaps Mr. Madrick can explain why poverty has increased since the enactment of the Great Society? Madrick believes laws that call for higher wages and aid in unionization are good for the economy (McKenna Feingold, 2012). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
