Paperhanging Tools
Paperhanging Brush
• Made of white or grey bristle, or synthetic filaments
set in rubber
• Size from 200 mm to 250 mm wide
• Used to apply papers & fabrics to walls and ceilings
• After use, wash in soap & tepid water & allow to dry
Paperhanging Shears
• Made of polished steel or stainless steel
• Size from 250 mm to 300 mm long
• Used to cut lengths & trim at angles & around
obstacles
• Keep clean & sharp. Never clean with abrasive paper
as it will blunt cutting edge. Store dry to prevent
rusting
Rule
• One metre rule, made from plastic or boxwood, and
folded into 4 section
• Used for measuring areas, lengths & widths
Paste Board
• Made from wood and is usually foldable for easy
transportation. Should be firm.
• Size 1.830 m long x 560 mm wide
• Used for measuring, cutting, matching & pasting of
wallcoverings
• Keep face & edges free from paste
Plumb Bob
• A small weight suspended on string
• Used to check that the first length of surface covering
on every wall is upright
Seam Roller
• Made from hardwood. Side arm or double arm fitting
• Size 25mm and 37mm wide
• Used to roll down edges of paper at seams & angles
• Keep clean & lubricate sparingly
Trimming Knife
• Available with retractable or replacement blades
• Used for cutting / trimming at angles & around
obstacles
• Keep blade sharp, or replace regularly
Wall brush
• Available in a wide range of varying quality including
pure bristle & man made filaments.
• Size from 100 mm to 175 mm wide
• Used to apply adhesive to wallcoverings
Bucket
• Made from galvanised steel or plastic
• Size from 7 litres up to 14 litres
• Used to hold water, washing solution or wallpaper
paste
Sponge
• Synthetic sponge, used for washing down, and
removing paste from surfaces.
