Pakistani architecture has developed over various periods, starting from ancient Indus Valley civilizations to modern times. The Indus Valley civilization included well-planned cities with public buildings and drainage systems. Buddhist architecture later flourished with structures borrowing from Greek styles. Islamic architecture rose with the arrival of Islam, shown through early mosques oriented towards Arab styles. Under the Mughal Empire, architecture blended Persian and Indian influences. During British rule, a mixture of European and Islamic styles emerged. After independence, Pakistan strived to express its national identity through modern mosques, monuments, and buildings.
