I almost did this twice for my own companies. It is a hybrid of speed dating and mentoring. Goal is to get kids who aren't from the wealthy areas to meet MBAs and Law Students over dinner, just to hear their paths and stories. Very inexpensive, and not an imposition for the students either. Uber makes the transportation issue with parents go away as well. Inexpensive way to open up the world of possibilities to those who aren't already immersed in it.

Many groups have developed and tried ‘mentoring’ type programs
focused on kids from disenfranchised backgrounds.
Our focus is on a small segment (15-16 year olds, 9-10th graders).
They are ‘just’ starting to understand career & future issues.

The idea is an innovative ‘pairing’ of the best and brightest of the
minority communities with those who could benefit greatly.
• ‘Sponsor’ a dinner for four - (2) MBAs (or MSEs, Law, Medical, PhD)
and (2) high potential kids from a high school in a lower income area
• Create a system to repeat this throughout the school year to be
coordinated by the Minority MBA organization officers in partnership with
the Principals of lower income High Schools in specific cities
• Payments to restaurants to be done by Corporate Sponsor, coordinated
by MBA organization groups for confirmation and accounting
• Feedback and analysis to determine and steer it towards optimal results.
Learn over time what does and does not work. (Define results. Also,
what are they doing - answering questions, understanding future
challenges, clearer vision, learning, helping guidance, strong impression,
wider horizons)
We are currently doing all of the preparation work to start this, but
are looking for a Corporate Sponsor to grow and maintain it.

Many Graduate students are the ‘best of the best’, and their exposure
or ability to commit to volunteer is limited. They have no free time.
These worlds exist, have little interaction and we want to provide a
‘glimpse’ to the kids and better chance to facilitate a future escape.
DinnerOnJay Tale of Two Worlds
Graduate Students
• Very bright future expected
• Good prior jobs and companies
• Well traveled, worldly
• Wooed by companies & executives
• Dinners, trips, Limos
• Top undergraduate educations
• Positive peer pressure
• Exposure/access to role models
• Short-term financial issues
• Very little free time
• Study a ton, also looking for jobs
• Still cool, relate better
• Not like their (the kids’) parents
• Most are not married
Note: Graduate Students includes all major discipline,
with MBAs being focus due to work experience

We will bring them together for long enough to make a life lasting
impression while also doing it for an enjoyable setting.

sides, but that will be left to Organization & Sponsor’s discretion.

There are a variety of benefits to everyone involved with the major
‘costs’ being their time and the Sponsor’s financial contribution.
This is a huge ‘win-win’ at a very low cost. Experience of a lifetime.

Getting this started and maintaining it will require financial and
human resource allocation by the parties involved.
• Start-up planning and logistics - (spell out what this entails better)
• Coordination, maintenance & logistics (plus possibly a ‘thank you’ dinner
for Principals, ISD heads and Organization Coordinators, Sponsors)
• Resolution of Issues, Barriers, Risks and Challenges (see Appendix)
• Dinners at about $80-100 per person, $320-400 per ‘dinner’
– (Debate - cheaper dinners, too out of reach?!?!)
• Public Relations not included, considered general marketing expense
– (What about other materials to be developed, marketing/collateral)
Outside of Sponsor’s money, major requirement is time required for
planning and coordination by Organizations and Schools

Thank you for reading this, and your support and ideas will be greatly
appreciated. Our final thoughts are below:
Bound to make a lasting impression, excellent ‘bang-for-the-buck’
achieved, create a lot of associated Goodwill and fun for all.
DinnerOnJay Conclusion
• Innovative idea, mentoring is not ‘new’, but we’ve never seen ‘this’ done
– (why is this new and different?)
• Bring together diverse spectrums of education & wealth
• Benefits everyone involved, and is more or less a lot of fun
• Huge impression & impact, minimal investment required
• Controlled environment, very little downside risk (had ? Next to, why?)
• Time investment minimal, optimized to guarantee participation
• Can expand geographically very easily, will be encouraged
• Life memories, loyalty to Sponsor, Organization(s) and Restaurant(s)
