Business Ethics and the 1989 Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Essay
Ethics are very important in the business world and to the general public. Ethics is defined as a system
of moral principles or the rules of conduct recognized in respect to a particular class of human actions
or a particular group. Using a moral compass should be a requirement for every CEO and executive.
Any person who will have some impact on society needs to understand the difference between right
and wrong. Since businesses touch such a large segment of our society, codes of ethics must be
established and followed to protect the general public. In the following pages we will discuss the 1989
Exxon Valdez oil spill disaster and examine how it relates to (1) the state of business ethics since

Business ethics since the beginning of this decade has been slowly eroding; if we are to believe what
we see and hear in the media. Several times a day, one can view some derogatory piece of information
concerning a business. However, it must also be considered that these companies are contributing to
that stigma. There have been a variety of companies and individuals who have figured prominently in
the media concerning their unethical behavior.
Ethics is defined as a system of moral principles or the rules of conduct recognized in respect to a
particular class of human actions or a particular group. Ethics and values are sometimes used
interchangeably, but the main goal is to make sure that one is using a moral compass to help guide in
the decision making process. One individual who figures prominently when it comes to ethics is the

How would one feel to hear the news of a significant other or loved one who has passed away due to
an accident? The news is heartbreaking and rather unimaginable. Sorry to say but your husband has
died due to an accident. No one wants to hear those words or go through the painful time. In The Story
of an Hour by Kate Chopin s, the death of her husband meant freedom and happiness. Chopin s uses a
great deal of symbolism throughout the story in order to depict the theme of freedom and happiness.

Evil Revivalists And Evil Sceptics
In philosophy, there are two groups of people who debate the concept of evil, Evil Revivalists and Evil
Sceptics. Evil Revivalists are all about evil being a useful term in today s society. They argue the word
evil is the only concept we can use for the worst of the worst. They also say that only by facing the
evil in our lives can we prevent it. This theory helps society to focus our limited energy and resources
when describing evil and helps us to respond better to evil. The Evil Sceptics on the other hand think
evil is concept that is too extreme and only hinders our thinking about bad events. They argue that evil
is often associated with the supernatural and lacks explanatory power. They also say that it is way too

Giant Steppes Toward Freedom by Ancestors
It is difficult for many Americans today to imagine taking everything they own and moving to a new
country because of religious and political freedoms. With these freedoms taken so much for granted,
we rarely think of the steps taken by our ancestors to gain that liberty. When looking at attempts in
history to gain freedom, it is usual to look to the founding fathers of America and their sacrifices.
However, other groups of people have strived for the same thing, one such group being the people of
the divided German states shortly after the Seven Year s War. Through several generations of
Germans, these people moved across country, across continent, and eventually even across the ocean
to America in order to gain that much desired freedom. In about 1763, the Germans were experiencing
many problems. With the seven years war just behind them, much of the land had been destroyed.
Crops were trampled, and properties were decimated, making the living conditions in Germany very
difficult. On top of that, the war had left the political system in a state of chaos. At that time, Germany
was not together as a nation but was rather divided into forty two different states. Unified Germany as
we know it today did not come about until much later, in about 1872. During this time minority
religions struggled in the German states. Evangelical Christians such as Baptists were not looked well
upon, as well as Mennonites who were pacifists and did not believe in serving in the military.

Araby By James Joyce Point Of View
There was no doubt about it: if you wanted to succeed you had to go away. You could do nothing in
Dublin. Little Chandler proclaimed this in the short story A Little Cloud and was a common theme
within Joyce s short stories. He used his short stories as a medium to reach the hearts and minds of the
people in Dublin, the place he called home. Although it was his home he didn t have the fondest
memories of it which are clearly present in his writing. James Joyce was, in my opinion, a
revolutionary who used his short stories as a means of changing the way of thinking for the homeland
he resented. Joyce s characters embark on a cyclical journey that can often puzzle the reader. The
characters decisions throughout the short story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joyce made a profound statement by describing her as a helpless animal because of her inability to act
and chase her desire. As the boat pulled away the reader could feel Eveline s life perish and her
beginning the automation of a dull and unfulfilling life in Dublin. Another frustrating cycle of hope
and eventually anguish is present in Araby by Joyce. You follow the journey of the narrator who wants
to buy a gift for a girl he is enchanted with from the splendid bazaar . This seems like a simple task
but Joyce uses this a chance to emphasize the mentality and hopelessness of the people of Dublin. As
the day arrives for him to go to the bazaar the doubt already sets into his mind. His normal morning
routine was to watch out the window as the girl would emerge from her door, but on this day his uncle
was in the way and he wasn t able to do it. The inability to lie at the window had a depressing effect
on him while walking to school he described the air as pitilessly raw and was clearly discouraged
saying already my heart misgave me . He finally reaches the bazaar later after his uncle comes home
late, and also drunk, and what he encounters has a devastating effect on him. The bazaar is closing
when he arrives and a worker at one of the stalls barely acknowledges him when he approaches. He
becomes extremely disappointed and then disappointment gives way to eventual anger. It is at this
moment he has an epiphany about his entire situation, he

Mexican American Cartel Essay
The Mexican drug trafficking cartels are said to have been established in the 1980s by a man named
Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo, also known as The Godfather . With the help of Ernesto Fonseca
Carrillo and Rafael Caro Quintero, Miguel started the Guadalajara Cartel, which is one of the first to
have thrived from association with the Colombian cocaine trade. The two men who helped Miguel
Gallardo establish the cartel were arrested, so Gallardo, the single leader of the cartel was smart

but it is said that the Sinaloa s have started taking them over.
The Juarez Cartel is now run by only one of the Carrillo Fuentes brothers, Vicente, and resembles
gang on gang warfare more than intra cartel violence (Beith). Like the Tijuana Cartel, the Juarez
Cartel is somewhat being controlled by the Sinaloa Cartel.
La Familia, a newer, infinitely smaller group, smuggles methamphetamine and has fallen to the
authorities. There is a similar group, the Knights Templar, but they, like La Familia, have a minimal
influence on society. Smaller, newer groups like the Jalisco Cartel New Generation and Matazetas also
exist, although not having a great impact on society (Beith).
As stated by David Lunhow and José De Cordoba, in the year 2008, 6,000 people died in drug related
violence in Mexico, the U.S. s second biggest trading partner. The cartels now operate in 230 cities
and towns around Mexico, and commit crimes in the U.S. as well, such as in the case of Phoenix,
where 370 kidnapping cases were reported in 2008 (De Cordoba Lunhow). As many as 90% of the
people killed in Mexico are said to be linked to trade in some way and in President Felipe Calderon s

Huck Finn Obstacles
The ambitions In life we all have different goals, so, do the characters in both these books. They each
granted different goals in different ways of their own. The first goal was peace and without peace no
one can co operate with the other or with the enemy. Example, In Huck Finn, when Huck met Jim at
the Jackson Island and once he knew more about him, like having a family, feelings etc. He began
protecting him by hiding him. Jim also does the same thing and he began to treat Huck as his own son,
though, he knew that Huck pops was racist. He also began being a father figure to him and it shows
that without the other, they would not have been free at the end because they needed each other.
Another example, in Long Walk, when Mandela came back from Ethiopia, he continued working with
the ANC as always and this time he included a white person in it though it was not permitted. He
knew that that person will be able to help him and give him all the information he needed. Therefore,

though Huck and Jim were strangers to each other, they had to find a way to be united, to work things

time, he and his comrades from the ANC campaign, they figured that if they don t come up with a

Clients are more and more oriented to the more rentable channels like internet and ATMs. Virtual
banks consequently deliver a lot of services but only through internet that allow to reduce costs in
occupancy and salaries in order to offer better rates of interest (to 3 times better than averages). Virtual
low costs positioned banks compete against other virtual banks with good customer service, in house
costumer data and service center operations, strong management teams, a good mix of attractively
priced products, and low marketing costs. It s a price competition which includes lower margins
directly.
What about the entry barriers with potential entrants? It is a low threat. The largest barrier to entry is
the expenses in founding a bank: a new bank needs to raise 8 12 million to begin operations. But start
up costs for virtual banks are much less expensive than for traditional banks: virtual banks could begin
operations for millions less than traditional banks (no offices, etc.) , even though they ll have to invest
a lot in marketing and advertising budgets in order to attract depositors at the start up time. The second
barrier is loyalty to older, larger, and more established brand name banks. Here we can talk about a
network effect. And third, an existing bank holding company provides investments and backing for the
new bank by spinning off a separate banking entity.

Story Of An Hour Naturalism Analysis
This literature unit took place in the 1850 s to the 1914 this time period was focused on the subject of

is the belief that human begins had no control over the individualism identities and were of the mercy
of life currents. In other words, the large forces control over the human begins and the lager forces
controlled over their fate. The pieces of literature that show this is An Episode of War , My Bondage

Sisterhood In The Help
We are not born to hate; we are taught to hate. Kathryn Stockett, the author of The Help, and many
other cowriters formed an uplifting, inspirational story about women in Jackson, Mississippi, during
the 1960s. Aibileen Clark, an African American maid; her best friend Minny Jackson, also an African
American maid in the south; and Skeeter Pheelan, a southern white writer, set out to write a book to
bring awareness to what is was like living as a black maid in Jackson. As a white female living in the
south today, this story, in my opinion, exhibits a theme of sisterhood and the risks taken to keep the
bonds of sisterhood intact. These women went against society s views of how white and black women
should live to compose a story in hopes of making a change in the south for themselves and the ones
they loved. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The black maids did not use the white toilet inside the home; they had specially built bathrooms

snuck around her family so she could write the story and build special bonds with the maids in
Jackson, Mississippi. After a tragedy in the black community, the maids got angry and decide to trust
Miss Skeeter and build a bond of sisterhood with her too. Stockett writes, A woman with curly gray
hair and a black coat follows behind him, but then stops in front of me where I m standing with my

Classes such as AP, honors, and advanced are usually based on preparing you for college, getting you
to college and getting you through college. Katy Hopkins says, Kids [who take AP courses] usually
are able to think outside the box; they re better prepared; they have stronger study skills; and the bar is
held up for them at a level where they reach that bar themselves. They already know, This is what my
teacher is going to expect of me or this is what I expect of myself, As you can you tell, kids who take
specifically AP classes, or generally higher level classes, are prepared with many great skills that are
useful in college or even getting through college. Higher level courses may even help students beyond
college and into the work world. High school students must prepare for college if they hope to have a
middle class income...The best standard for preparation for college is a good working knowledge of
the subject matter earned in challenging courses during high school. For further definition, one of the
tools recommended for college preparation is the Advanced Placement Program, administered by the
nonprofit College Board, which also administers the Scholastic Aptitude Test. (reviewjournal.com).
Apparently, Ap courses can be life changing. These courses can help students through high school,
college, and the rest of their lives. Ap classes can even have the same amount of work as an actual
college student. The bottom line is that college is probably the same amount of work as a high school

perceived sleep quality within the past month. Once the Sleep Quality Index was obtained, the

In Robert J. C. Young’S Book, Postcolonialism, A Very Short
In Robert J. C. Young s book, Postcolonialism, A Very Short Introduction, he explains Postcolonialism
claims the right of all people on this earth to the same material and cultural well being. The reality,
though, is that the world today is a world of inequality, and much of the difference fails across the
broad division between people of the west and those of the non west (2). This sentence sums up the
separation of civilizations in various parts of the world due to the consequences of colonialism by
European imperialists. There are extreme, long lasting effects that affect many inhabitants of the world
today, whether it be poverty or racism. The aftermath of the colonial periods can still, unfortunately,
be seen today. The process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the Europeans began taking over, naturally the inhabitants of the developing nations were
angry. They already had successful, working systems that were deemed mediocre by foreign British
imperialists. This led to inevitable violence and a history of revolt rebellion of attempting to kick the
colonizer out. They demanded independence through revolutions. However, once their independence
was gained and they were permitted a free country, the country s situation did not change. The
economy and government of the new nation is typically tremendously similar to those who initially
colonized. This is due to familiarity and only being exposed to the system the Europeans set in place.
With the government and economy not changing in a newly independent nation, the division of the
people only grew. The upper/bourgeoisie class is simply replaced with domestic inhabitants rather
than white European men. On page 107 of The Wretched of the Earth, Fanon, Fanon explains, In the
aftermath of independence, the nationals who live in the prosperous regions realize their good fortune
and their gut reaction is to refuse to feed the rest of the nation... while a sector grows relatively
wealthy, the rest of the colony continues, or rather sinks into underdevelopment and poverty. The class

Why Is Seatbelts Important
Nowadays, most people own cars and many people are riding cars on a daily basis. Although we
sometimes hear on the news about people dying by car accidents, there are much more cases when
people are not injured by car accidents thanks to the range of safety equipment designed to keep the
people on the car safe in the event of a car crash. The range of safety equipment is supported in the
background by the modern advanced science. First of all, seatbelts are installed in every kind of car
that is being sold. Seatbelts take a very important role in cars because it works in many ways to
protect the passengers from danger and car accidents. One of the reasons why seatbelts are important
is because seatbelts reduce the speed of a body of a passenger as it gets an experience of an abrupt
decreasing of speed. Since the velocity of the car and the passenger is independent, even when the car
crashed into a wall and the velocity suddenly decreases to zero, the body of a passenger will want to
still move forwards. The second reason is that seatbelts prevent passengers from slamming parts of

The antilock braking system was made to support the driver to control some steering dexterity and
avoid skidding while putting on the brake. Anti lock brakes were first introduced in the mid 1980s and
became a major equipment of a mobile in cars that were sold in Canada. The antilock braking system
allows the driver to keep control of the car and uses wheel speed sensor to take a decision whether any
wheels are trying to lock up during the action of braking. Then the system works a series of hydraulic
valves restrict or decrease the braking on those wheels, which prevents skidding and allows the driver
to maintain steering control. Anti lock brakes are one of the major systems that save passengers for car

Apgar Score Lab Report
Dr. Virginia Apgar introduced the Apgar Score in 1952. Apgar was an obstetrical anesthetist and the
first woman to be named a full professor at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
By studying the effects of labor anesthetics on a new born baby, she invented the Apgar Scale. This
scale was created to determine how prepared the baby is for life outside of the womb. Standard Apgar
testing is done one minute post partum and then again at five minutes post partum. The first test is
done to see how well the baby managed the birthing process. The second test is used to see how the
baby is tolerating being outside of the womb. Using five different tests/assessments, the baby is either
determined healthy or dependent upon immediate medical attention. Babies are scored 0 2 with 0
being the worst and 2 being the best.
The five tests are simple and quickly determine the health of the baby. The tests can be performed by a
doctor, nurse, or midwife. The first test consists of checking the respiration effort of the baby. Crying
is scored at a 2 on the Apgar Score, labored or irregular breathing is a 1, and absence of breathing is a
0. The second test performed is the most crucial: the heart rate. ... Show more content on

The Environmental Effect Of Operational Planning And...
Organizations face many pressures in their attempt to navigate daily operations, while conducting

to rising sea levels, warmer air temperatures, and more erratic weather and jet stream patterns, which
will threaten coastal airports, increase the amount of fuel required for takeoff and landing, and shift
flight patterns to less fuel efficient paths.
Hope comes in the form of a progressive vision, one which will set Southwest above its peers in the
modernization of environmentally conscious advancement of aviation practices. Setting an example
by making commercial aviation operations sustainable and environmentally sound through the
implementation of innovative practices in air and ground operations for the betterment of the aviation
industry and the human race. This vision will lead to an industry benchmark in the effective, efficient,
and effusive operations that will become commonplace in the future of commercial aviation. Although
this is a very ambitious vision, it is attainable through solid change strategy, focusing on existing
technology, for operations in flight and on the ground.
The main contributor to carbon emissions, and the primary factor of the environmental impact of
aviation, is jet engines. Two ways that an airline company can save on fuel expenses, and the
subsequent impact to the environment, is through altering takeoff procedures and investing in more
fuel efficient engines. Fuel requirements for takeoff

Factors for Economic Growth of West Germany 1945 1960 Currently, in the Middle East, millions of
people are fleeing their home s in order to seek asylum from extremist groups who threaten their way
of life. These migrants are moving into stable neighboring nations mostly Western Europe. This huge
increase in population movement is adding to economic pressures and could potentially collapse the
system. Today, a stabile global economy is heavily reliant on every individual actor countries slowly
succumbing to volatility and destabilization are a liability to our globe s economic well being. It is
becoming a necessity to look back at our global successes in stabilizing a region s economy and the
factors that lead to these successes. Within the past century, a major reconstruction and reorganization
of an economic system occurred in Germany after WWII. From 1945 to 1960, West Germany went
from an economic money pit to a necessary asset to secure Western civilization. This paper will
discuss and analyze the factors that lead to West Germany becoming the economic powerhouse of
Western Europe, but will not include the effects of East Germany due to lack of influence. This paper
will be separated into several sections to better detail events in BLANKNLKNA.

Senator John Walsh of Montana backed out of the next senate election because The New York Times

The Army War College. The Army War College then took away Walsh s graduation status. I personally
think that politicians are so likely to plagiarize others works because they do not have the knowledge
or the ability to come up with something original or on their own. They think that taking other peoples

Why I Dont Drink Tea Culture
Via the legal way, England would not be a tea drinking nation as it is today.
Introduction I don t drink coffee I take tea my dear is the first sentence of a famous song An English
man in New York by the British singer Sting . The whole world sees Britain as a tea drinking nation.
The love between the British people and tea is over a century old. The history of this love was
developed during the British Empire, the colonization of Asian countries and the establishment of The
East Indian Company. The East Indian Company was founded by several London businessmen
cooperating in order to earn money and trade with Asia. East Asian countries offered Britain trade
products which consisted of raw materials like raw silk, cotton, sugar, indigo and the so beloved tea.
For the first time tea came into Britain during the seventeenth century. This was the influence of a
foreign Portuguese princess, Catherine of Braganza, who was married to the British king Charles II.
Catherine had loved tea since her childhood in Portugal and she was the first to introduce tea to the
English royal court, where it became a major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
China, were the tea came from, was not interested in any trade with western countries. The situation
continued to be like that until the Portuguese navigators visited China. The Chinese gradually
developed an interest in some of their products, such as firearms, spices and silver. But the British had
nothing to offer. China had no interest in English broadcloth, which was useless in the bitterly cold
northern China. So the Brits had no choice than spending enormous amounts of silver to purchase
their tea leaves. But they couldn t do that much longer. Since the tea was so expensive, the Brits had
no other choice than to start using illegal activities, like smuggling and drugs, to ease the resulting
tremendous trade deficit, at least if they wanted to save their countries economy and continue
importing their favorite beverage,

Globalization The Super Story By Thomas Friedman Analysis
We are said to be living in a world with a transparent and yet to develop war. But how can anyone
really see it and understand it if no one is aware of how tragic events happen, who and how many
people, countries and nations are behind it and how it all connects to technology. At least, that is what
Thomas L. Freidman writes about in his article Globalization: The Super Story . Friedman s article
was a very interesting read, especially since it touches upon some pretty dense and forgotten subjects,
such as global politics, technology and history. When I read the title of this article I expected
Friedman to discuss about global markets and the interaction of nations yet I was amazed when he
expanded on the supermarkets and how globalization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The definition is excellent in describing the system that is present today. Friedman pointed out that
markets around the globe become intertwined into one web of connectivity, where one company in
North America can easily interact and do business with an individual in Asia, and create profits.
However, the inter connectivity I believe in has more to it. Going beyond what Friedman stated, I
argue that the globalization of world markets not only helps the existing large financial centers of the
world, but also smaller, and often times, newer markets. While I do not agree with the outsourcing of
jobs, the factories moved to lower wage countries is a benefit to people working, and living there. It
offers employment, and a life to the workers that they would have never had if the factories were
never sent there. It helps the poorer nations in developing an economy, and become part of the global
market. Friedman said that Supermarkets can destroy nations (473), but its power could also aid the
poorer nations to grow and even maybe, join the global

Energy policy and plans are laid out with two kinds of objectives viz. Means objectives and Final
objectives. The final objectives are ultimate goals of reducing the negative impacts of climate change
and creating a sustainable human environment that is progressive. The means objectives are
intermediate steps laid out to achieve the final objective. There are three means objectives laid out by
MacKay that are commonly accepted viz. Environment/Safety (human dimension), Energy security
and Economic development. The Environment/Safety involves factors such as Green House Gases

Any such modeling in whole or part requires caution and humility, and the results are specific to the
model and its assumptions. They should not be endowed with a precision and certainty that is simply
impossible to achieve. The chief uncertainties with the impacts of climate change are ignorance of
time factor, technological advances, economics, policy, planning and society. These include the
difficulties of estimating the costs of technologies several decades into the future, as well as the way in
which fossil fuel prices evolve in the future. It is also hard to know how people will respond to price
changes.
Majority of current data uses time factors of different definitions that make such data hard to relate
from a reference line. For example is it possible to define the pre industrial era levels for health and
longevity of human life compared to current with respect to air pollution levels. Most data uses
probabilistic models to speculate for the variation in time. However, such models involve many
assumptions that inherently have uncertainties.
Technological advancements are hard to predict. The potential for, and costs of, technologies and
measures to cut emissions across different sectors is studied to weigh the impacts. Consider the case
nuclear fusion which is being researched extensively since past 30 years or so but is still elusive at

Women In A Tale Of Two Cities
A Tale of Two Cities Essay
Women in the 18th century were slowly beginning to gain more rights, but not enough to be equal to
men. They were sometimes disrespected, and many people still thought that women were not able to
have a job; they were just meant to run the household. Many advances were made in this time period,
such as having the availability of more education, and being able to assist their husband in work
outside of home. But there were still many things women did not have say in, such as marriage laws.
In Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, women play a major role in the story, and show just
how capable a woman can be, even without the respect that they rightfully deserve.
Miss Pross portrays that a woman can be just as brave as a man, and make sacrifices for those who she
cares about. At the end of the book, Miss Pross faces Madame Defarge alone, and is willing to
sacrifice herself for Lucie. Her love and loyalty to Lucie shows when she is with Defarge. She knows
that the longer I keep you here, the greater hope there is for my Ladybird (Page 377). Miss Pross tries
to stall for time, knowing that she may be killed by Madame Defarge, but she is willing to give her life

hatred for the Evrémondes, and would try to kill everyone who was associated with them. Once this

Juvenile Court Systems And The Adult Court System
Through the court systems in the United States there is a major distribution of probation between the
juvenile court system and the adult court system. More than 70,000 juveniles were incarcerated in
youth prisons or detention in 2010. Case studies show that more than 500,000 juveniles are taken to
confinement centers every year. Not including the juveniles who by pass the detention center and
make their way into the adult court system where they are later tried. Juveniles stand out of any prison
that they may be asserted to because most acts are created by those younger than the age of 18 those
juveniles are allowed to be trialed under the administration of the juvenile court until age 21. Prison is
not a place most juveniles while be able to with stand. So the juvenile judges process a variety of
different legal options to incorporate both the safety needs of the juvenile while also dealing with the
well being of the community and the rehabilitant needs of the juvenile. In some cases, the state will
even pay jails to not allow juveniles to be accepted into their facilities. Juveniles are adequately still
labeled as children no matter how grown they may think of themselves as. The mind of a person does
not mature appropriately until that person reaches their premature twenties. An Arkansas study
documented that juveniles who were formerly imprisoned for a crime were about 15 time more likely
to constrain another crime. Probation has been a more efficient route when dealing

Soybeans, Maize, And Rapeseed Essay
Soybeans, maize, and rapeseed are raw commodities where the primary use is inputs in the feed, food,
and drink industries. Appendix A Figure 2.A.1 lists the wide spectrum of food industries where
soybeans, maize, and rapeseed are used as inputs. Since the value of these crops is low compared to
the final products in which they are typically inputs infers that transport and storage must often be
organized in bulk in order for operational and transaction costs to be kept low.
The current supply chain structure in which these crops are traded creates several possibilities for
impurities or co mingling. It is common practice in food safety regulations to allow a minimum
presence of unintended materials like dirt, weed seeds, and mycotoxins in crop shipments (Backus et
al. 2008). However, this may not always be the case regarding the unintended presence of traces of an
unapproved GM event in the non GM crops (whether crops where no GM approvals have been made
or crops where GM varieties have been commercialized). For example, the EU has a zero tolerance
level for unapproved GM events in the shipments of crops. Thus, the case of asynchronous approval
of GM varieties and differing thresholds for LLP among countries can lead to important impediments
to trade. These can include returning, relocation, or destroying cargos of non GM varieties at the
importing country s port as a result of the unintended presence of GM traits. Also, with the growing
number of GM events being licensed

Breastfeeding In Public Essay
What could possibly be wrong about a mother nourishing her child? Absolutely nothing. Many people

breastfeeding unit that allows mothers to feed their babies in places where they have been discouraged
restaurants, shopping malls, public spaces, etc. Babies should be able to eat anywhere, and everywhere

Some states have laws so strict that asking a nursing mother to stop, cover up, or move elsewhere is a
violation of her civil rights and gives her grounds to sue for damages in a court of law .
Babies who are not breastfed in places other than home will eventually become used to only being fed
in one place. Therefore the nourishing mother will basically become house bound. It is important for
women to get out of the house following birth, so they don t become depressed and feel cut off from
the rest of the world. According to The American Academy of Pediatrics The AAP recommends that
babies be exclusively breastfed for about the first 6 months of life. Babies should continue to
breastfeed for a year and for as long as is mutually desired by the mother and baby . During these first
6 months the mother should be dedicated to supplying breast milk whenever and wherever she and her
infant feel appropriate. Why should a mother be segregated from her everyday life during her nursing
period just to make others feel comfortable ?
For the most part women cover themselves with a shawl, a wrap, or a cover of some sort while
breastfeeding. If not they make sure that they are not exposed in any way. Breastfeeding saves
everyone money. According to Opposing Views A conservative 2001 report estimates that at least $3.6

Task Force For Gifted And Talented Education
Today s society is governed by one simple mantra: we all have our gifts. While this is a relatively
vague saying, there is one concrete definition of giftedness that is seemingly undeniable, and that is
the intellectual giftedness of young children. As elucidated by the Federal Government, the term gifted
and talented, when used with respect to students, children, or youth, means students, children, or youth
who give evidence of high achievement capability in such areas as intellectual, creative, artistic, or
leadership capacity, or in specific academic fields, and who need services or activities not ordinarily
provided by the school in order to fully develop those capabilities (Title IX, Part A, Definition 22). At

A paper presented in 2005 at the Australian Association for Research in Education reports that ...gifted
students and high achievers will experience an enhanced school self concept due to the BFLP (big
fish, little pond) effect through a comparison with their average ability peers, their school self concept
will be lowered due to an assimilation effect when they affiliate themselves with their less able peers
(Yeung 4). This finding is particularly interesting because it calls the efficacy of pulling gifted children
out of regular classes and grouping them together. In regular classes, the gifted student has an inflated
sense of self worth, and yet as soon as he is put into a room with like minded people, he begins to feel
less adequate and may fall back to an ordinary learning ability. This then results in the student s
frustration with his inability to grasp new material, and with the routine, repetitive nature of daily life
(Farmer). These feelings can persist throughout a lifetime, even as gifted ability fades, resulting in
feelings of depression, displacement, and the dreaded phenomenon of burnout (Kesner

Giant Steppes Toward Freedom by Ancestors It is difficult for many Americans today to imagine taking everything they own and moving to a new country because of religious and political freedoms. With these freedoms taken so much for granted, we rarely think of the steps taken by our ancestors to gain that liberty. When looking at attempts in history to gain freedom, it is usual to look to the founding fathers of America and their sacrifices. However, other groups of people have strived for the same thing, one such group being the people of the divided German states shortly after the Seven Year s War. Through several generations of Germans, these people moved across country, across continent, and eventually even across the ocean to America in order to gain that much desired freedom. In about 1763, the Germans were experiencing many problems. With the seven years war just behind them, much of the land had been destroyed. Crops were trampled, and properties were decimated, making the living conditions in Germany very difficult. On top of that, the war had left the political system in a state of chaos. At that time, Germany was not together as a nation but was rather divided into forty two different states. Unified Germany as we know it today did not come about until much later, in about 1872. During this time minority religions struggled in the German states. Evangelical Christians such as Baptists were not looked well upon, as well as Mennonites who were pacifists and did not believe in serving in the military. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Little Chandler proclaimed this in the short story A Little Cloud and was a common theme within Joyce s short stories. He used his short stories as a medium to reach the hearts and minds of the people in Dublin, the place he called home. Although it was his home he didn t have the fondest memories of it which are clearly present in his writing. James Joyce was, in my opinion, a revolutionary who used his short stories as a means of changing the way of thinking for the homeland he resented. Joyce made a profound statement by describing her as a helpless animal because of her inability to act and chase her desire. As the boat pulled away the reader could feel Eveline s life perish and her beginning the automation of a dull and unfulfilling life in Dublin. Another frustrating cycle of hope and eventually anguish is present in Araby by Joyce. You follow the journey of the narrator who wants to buy a gift for a girl he is enchanted with from the splendid bazaar . This seems like a simple task but Joyce uses this a chance to emphasize the mentality and hopelessness of the people of Dublin. As the day arrives for him to go to the bazaar the doubt already sets into his mind. His normal morning routine was to watch out the window as the girl would emerge from her door, but on this day his uncle was in the way and he wasn t able to do it. The inability to lie at the window had a depressing effect on him while walking to school he described the air as pitilessly raw and was clearly discouraged saying already my heart misgave me . He finally reaches the bazaar later after his uncle comes home late, and also drunk, and what he encounters has a devastating effect on him. Methods In the study, the between groups design and the cross sectional design were used for research. There were 243 participants between the ages of 18 and 39, and the majority were females and Caucasians. The average age was about 21 years old. The measurements used were the Social Rhythm Metric, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and the Beck Depression Inventory, Second Edition. The PSQI was used to measure perceived sleep quality within the past month. Once the Sleep Quality Index was obtained, the participants were categorized as good sleepers (5) based on scale ranging from 0 to 19. The SRM was used to assess social rhythms. The overall activities performed by a test subject, the number of activities performed involving social interaction, and the number of activities involving minimum to no social interaction were analyzed. The SRM also tracked the regularity of activities, so a hit meant an activity was performed within 45 minutes of the habitual time. The BDI II was used to calculate participants levels of depression. Apgar was an obstetrical anesthetist and the first woman to be named a full professor at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. By studying the effects of labor anesthetics on a new born baby, she invented the Apgar Scale. This scale was created to determine how prepared the baby is for life outside of the womb. Standard Apgar testing is done one minute post partum and then again at five minutes post partum. The first test is done to see how well the baby managed the birthing process. The second test is used to see how the baby is tolerating being outside of the womb. Using five different tests/assessments, the baby is either determined healthy or dependent upon immediate medical attention. Babies are scored 0 2 with 0 being the worst and 2 being the best. The five tests are simple and quickly determine the health of the baby. The tests can be performed by a doctor, nurse, or midwife. She may be an antagonist, but she also played the part of a victim as well. The Evrémonde brothers had killed much of her family, and soon after, she became blinded with revenge. Defarge held a deep hatred for the Evrémondes, and would try to kill everyone who was associated with them. Once this feud was becoming too much, Ernest Defarge had tried to put a stop to her need of revenge, but she told him to tell the wind and fire to stop, not me (page 338). • 32. Juvenile Court Systems And The Adult Court System Through the court systems in the United States there is a major distribution of probation between the juvenile court system and the adult court system. More than 70,000 juveniles were incarcerated in youth prisons or detention in 2010. Case studies show that more than 500,000 juveniles are taken to confinement centers every year. Not including the juveniles who by pass the detention center and make their way into the adult court system where they are later tried. Juveniles stand out of any prison that they may be asserted to because most acts are created by those younger than the age of 18 those juveniles are allowed to be trialed under the administration of the juvenile court until age 21. Prison is not a place most juveniles while be able to with stand. So the juvenile judges process a variety of different legal options to incorporate both the safety needs of the juvenile while also dealing with the well being of the community and the rehabilitant needs of the juvenile. In some cases, the state will even pay jails to not allow juveniles to be accepted into their facilities. Juveniles are adequately still labeled as children no matter how grown they may think of themselves as. The mind of a person does not mature appropriately until that person reaches their premature twenties. An Arkansas study documented that juveniles who were formerly imprisoned for a crime were about 15 time more likely to constrain another crime. Probation has been a more efficient route when dealing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Soybeans, Maize, And Rapeseed Essay Soybeans, maize, and rapeseed are raw commodities where the primary use is inputs in the feed, food, and drink industries. Appendix A Figure 2.A.1 lists the wide spectrum of food industries where soybeans, maize, and rapeseed are used as inputs. Since the value of these crops is low compared to the final products in which they are typically inputs infers that transport and storage must often be organized in bulk in order for operational and transaction costs to be kept low. The current supply chain structure in which these crops are traded creates several possibilities for impurities or co mingling. It is common practice in food safety regulations to allow a minimum presence of unintended materials like dirt, weed seeds, and mycotoxins in crop shipments (Backus et al. 2008). However, this may not always be the case regarding the unintended presence of traces of an unapproved GM event in the non GM crops (whether crops where no GM approvals have been made or crops where GM varieties have been commercialized). For example, the EU has a zero tolerance level for unapproved GM events in the shipments of crops. Thus, the case of asynchronous approval of GM varieties and differing thresholds for LLP among countries can lead to important impediments to trade. These can include returning, relocation, or destroying cargos of non GM varieties at the importing country s port as a result of the unintended presence of GM traits. Also, with the growing number of GM events being licensed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Breastfeeding In Public Essay What could possibly be wrong about a mother nourishing her child? Absolutely nothing. Many people view a woman s breasts as sexual items. The main purpose of breasts Is to breastfeed a child after birth. I came across The Milk Truck while back. The Milk Truck is there to create a mobile breastfeeding unit that allows mothers to feed their babies in places where they have been discouraged restaurants, shopping malls, public spaces, etc. Babies should be able to eat anywhere, and everywhere . I am absolutely for breastfeeding in public. Breastfeeding is when a woman feeds her child from her breast. Breastfeeding has been around since before the 15th century. In addition to strengthening the bond between a mother and her baby, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some states have laws so strict that asking a nursing mother to stop, cover up, or move elsewhere is a violation of her civil rights and gives her grounds to sue for damages in a court of law . Babies who are not breastfed in places other than home will eventually become used to only being fed in one place. Therefore the nourishing mother will basically become house bound. It is important for women to get out of the house following birth, so they don t become depressed and feel cut off from the rest of the world. According to The American Academy of Pediatrics The AAP recommends that babies be exclusively breastfed for about the first 6 months of life. Babies should continue to breastfeed for a year and for as long as is mutually desired by the mother and baby . During these first 6 months the mother should be dedicated to supplying breast milk whenever and wherever she and her infant feel appropriate. Why should a mother be segregated from her everyday life during her nursing period just to make others feel comfortable ? For the most part women cover themselves with a shawl, a wrap, or a cover of some sort while breastfeeding. If not they make sure that they are not exposed in any way. Breastfeeding saves everyone money. According to Opposing Views A conservative 2001 report estimates that at least $3.6 billion in health ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Task Force For Gifted And Talented Education Today s society is governed by one simple mantra: we all have our gifts. While this is a relatively vague saying, there is one concrete definition of giftedness that is seemingly undeniable, and that is the intellectual giftedness of young children. As elucidated by the Federal Government, the term gifted and talented, when used with respect to students, children, or youth, means students, children, or youth who give evidence of high achievement capability in such areas as intellectual, creative, artistic, or leadership capacity, or in specific academic fields, and who need services or activities not ordinarily provided by the school in order to fully develop those capabilities (Title IX, Part A, Definition 22). At first glance, this definition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A paper presented in 2005 at the Australian Association for Research in Education reports that ...gifted students and high achievers will experience an enhanced school self concept due to the BFLP (big fish, little pond) effect through a comparison with their average ability peers, their school self concept will be lowered due to an assimilation effect when they affiliate themselves with their less able peers (Yeung 4). This finding is particularly interesting because it calls the efficacy of pulling gifted children out of regular classes and grouping them together. In regular classes, the gifted student has an inflated sense of self worth, and yet as soon as he is put into a room with like minded people, he begins to feel less adequate and may fall back to an ordinary learning ability. This then results in the student s frustration with his inability to grasp new material, and with the routine, repetitive nature of daily life (Farmer). These feelings can persist throughout a lifetime, even as gifted ability fades, resulting in feelings of depression, displacement, and the dreaded phenomenon of burnout (Kesner ...
