Marissa Meyer s futuristic dystopian novel, Cinder, is set in an advanced society containing large
divides between different groups of people including; cyborgs, humans, and Lunars. Cyborgs are often
looked down upon as inhuman machines that are held to high expectations though, the majority of
cyborgs are partially human. The antagonist, Cinder, is a cyborg who struggles with these divides
between people. Because of this, Cinder feels the need to hide her Cyborg self and constantly work to

However, by their nature, periphery operations, especially in unlimited war, fail to attack the enemy s
center of gravity and therefore, usually fail to inflict grave damage to the enemy. In rare cases where
sufficient forces are available, such as the Allied invasion of NW Europe in WWII, truly grave
damage can be sufficiently inflicted. But this situation is not usually the case. Employing amphibious
forces also carries a significant risk that damage to one s own forces will be disproportionate with that
inflicted upon the enemy. The Spartan Hoplite invasion of Sphacteria provides an extreme example
where the invading force was isolated and destroyed. A similar example is the British WWI invasion
of Gallipoli. Although not completely destroyed, the invading force was isolated on the beachhead and
severely mauled. Requirements for troop replenishment and resupply created a festering sore that
drained Britain s war effort on a secondary front removed from Germany, the primary enemy. Damage
to the Turkish forces was not grave and was certainly out of proportion with the cost in any case. The
allied invasion at Anzio in WWII was another similar example of disproportionate cost/benefit, at least
in its initial stages. Finally, embarking upon an amphibious invasion often means opening a second

front. Such a move can have good or bad strategic consequences that impact the relative value of any
injury caused to the foe.

Labors And Slavery During The Gilded Age
During the Gilded Age both labors and farmers had very strong reasons to have these complaints.
Labors were treated as minorities, controlled by their bosses and weren t getting paid what they
deserved so this led to the unionizations, strikes and vandalisms. Farmers were in declined because
bigger farms were taking over and they were getting less money. They didn t understand why this was
happening if they had new machines, so this led to the Green Revolution and several political
activities. However, these complaints that both labors and farmers have, have their similarities and
differences.
Labors did not have very good wages and it was problem during the Gilded Age. Labors had to live by
paternalism, meaning that George Pullman owned them. It seems as if labors never got a profit for the
long hours that they worked in the sweatshops. All the money goes straight back to Pullman, because
they had to pay for rent and their goods and groceries provided by him. So basically, Pullman didn t
consider them valuable because there was always someone looking for a job. These reasons led to
several unionizations like the Knights of Labor where they had to pay their dues to go on strike and
fight for them. Anyone from radical to bosses could join this union except bankers and lawyers, which
made no sense. They fought for workplace rights but where they did wrong is when they demanded
outside workplace rights such as free public schools for their children. This union caused deaths

used to convey the messages. Tan utilises these techniques to help the reader realise, and interpret, for

Throughout Shaun Tans surrealist picture books The Lost Thing and The Red Tree the overarching
theme of hope is explored. Both books implement symbolism and positioning to reveal the extended
metaphor of hope. In The Red Tree Tan uses the symbol of a red leaf on every page to represent hope,
similarly, The Lost Thing has the symbol of a white, curvy arrow on almost every page to also
symbolise hope. Tan uses the red leaf as a metaphor to the reader that hope is always present, even if
sometimes the person cannot see it at that moment. This is represented in the nobody understands
picture where the little girl is seen in a glass bottle with a diving helmet on, the red leaf is positioned

Introduction
Tight junctions function as barriers in epithelial cells through the formation of protein complexes
between neighboring cells. Made up of three transmembrane protein families including the occludin
proteins, the claudin proteins, and the junctional adhesion molecules (JAMs), tight junctions are able
to maintain the distinction between the apical and basolateral regions of the cell as well as maintain
the endothelial and epithelial cell sheet barrier. Tight junctions are found to work based on properties
such as size selectivity, ion permeability, concentration gradients, sensitivity to pH, and other transport
mechanisms (Tang and Goodenough, 2003). This becomes important when recognizing that tight
junctions work to prevent molecules from permeating the epithelial sheet and transport them through a
paracellular pathway. Permeation of pathogenic bacteria may cause disruption of tight junctions which
plainly leads to malfunction of the epithelium which serves to absorb food and water and protect the

There are many kinds of villains in stories with many different motivations. Handsome Jack from the
Borderlands franchise is one example of a villain done right. Not only does he contrast well against
the heros in the story, but he appeals well to the audience. The audience also sees how changes from
being considered a hero by many to being undoubtedly a villain.
When we initially meet Handsome Jack he is the CEO of the Hyperion corporation and claims to be
trying to civilize the crazy bandit filled lawless planet called Pandora. In the first installment of the
Borderlands franchise Handsome Jack did not directly make an appearance but was responsible for the

Over a year ago, I was diagnosed with a mental illness called bipolar disorder. It wasn t as much as a
shock when they explained it to me, for I always had that slight suspicion that I might be bipolar.
Although the condition has always been there with me, the symptoms were more apparent to me after

Brady vs. Maryland was a landmark United States Supreme Court case in which the prosecution had
withheld from the criminal defendant certain evidence. The defendant faced his conviction, arguing it
had been contrary to the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States
Constitution.
Maryland prosecuted Brady and a companion, Boblit, for murder. Brady admitted being involved in
the murder, but claimed Boblit had done the actual killing. The prosecution had withheld a written
statement by Boblit admitting that he had committed the act of killing by himself. The Maryland Court
of Appeals had confirmed the conviction and remanded the case for a retrial only on the question of
punishment. The Supreme Court held that withholding exculpatory evidence violates due process
where the evidence is material either to guilt or to punishment ; and the court determined that under
Maryland state law the withheld evidence couldn t have exculpated the defendant but was material to

My Rule Of Life
My Rule of Life is going to help and direct me to where I want to grow spiritually. Like a trellis that
helps guide plants to grow up in the direction it need to go, I want my Rule of Life to the same. With
God s first two questions to humanity, Where are you? and Where is your brother? I answered by
saying that I do not know. Right now, I am at a time where I feel lost and need some guidance. I grew
up in a Catholic household, but I never paid attention during mass. I believed that my background was
