The Importance Of Housing In The United States
I returned from my deployment to Afghanistan tan, lean, and anxious about the impending nuptials a
few weeks away. During the intervening time, I looked for a house that my wife and I could call
home, our own expression of the American dream. I found a brick ranch in a neighborhood that had
been built right after World War II probably to house a family in a very similar situation to my own. I
was able to purchase the house thanks to a zero down loan from a local bank, guaranteed by the
Veterans Administration. My situation was not a unusual one, but rather an echo of the development of
suburbia. The United States was suffering from a severe housing shortage in the 1930 s and despite
their best construction efforts, faced a worsening crisis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before these loan programs, buyers needed a 30% down payment, but the FHA loans could be made
with a 10% down payment. The structure of the FHA and VA loan programs reduced the
administrative costs associated with loan origination by 15 percent and lowered the interest rate by
two or three percentage points. By increasing the amount of leverage people could deploy to buy a
house, the FHA made purchasing a home a possibility for people who used to rent, with one person
noting that they, ...had been paying $50 per month rent, and here we come up and live for $29 a
month. This motivated people who were renting in the city to move out into the suburbs where they
could buy their own home, contributing to the white middle class flight from the city. FHA loans for
repairing a home had worse terms than buying a new home, which incentivized people to purchase a
new dwelling rather than repair their current one. The Veterans Administration and Federal Housing
Administration loan programs allowed for a large portion of the American people to shift from long
term renters to potential home owners, which provided a ready pool of buyers for new home

Why The US Won The Super Bowl
Three minutes later, Brady again led his team down the field scoring a touchdown and then converting
the 2 point conversion, 28 20 Falcons. The Falcons responded with a great drive thanks to Julio Jones
making what could be the catch of the year. However they were forced to punt due to a sack and
penalties. The Patriots converted one first down until the play of the game took place. On 1st and 10
Tom Brady throws a ball in the middle of the field that gets tip by a defender. Julian Edelman sees the
ball in the air, surrounded by three defenders, he extends his body and just gets his hands under the
ball. The Patriots then went on to score and convert the 2 point conversion tying the game, 28 28.

In other words, one can say that Super Bowl LI kind of symbolizes the war. In the beginning of the
war Germany was riding a hot hand in Adolf Hitler. Hitler was dominating all of Europe with ease just
like Matt Ryan in the first half. The young power dominated the allies up until they woke the the
sleeping beast, the USA. Right before entering the war the US was experiencing the Great Depression.
Just like at halftime when the Patriots faced the largest deficit in Super Bowl history. On December 7,
1941, the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor which inspired many Americans to fight. Many believe that the
day the US joined the war was the turning point for the war. The turning point for the Patriots might
have been the scoreboard in a sense. Looking up at that scoreboard could ve dropped a bomb on the
Patriots sideline. Instead of feeling sorry for themselves both the soldiers and players got fired up and
wanted to make a difference. Which is also a key trait to being an American, persevering through
hardships no matter what. In the movie, Rocky the main character says, It s not about hard you get hit.
It s about how hard you can get hit and get back up. This quote completely sums up both American
soldiers and the Patriots

Sinaloa Cartel And Drug Trafficking
trafficking is one of the most severe cross border crimes affecting the world today. Drug trafficking
involves both the narcotic and the non narcotic substances like marijuana. The criminalization of
drugs has made the elements gain significant values in the global market. The United States of
America (U.S.A) is one of the largest markets of global narcotic drugs and related substances. Mexico
has proved to be the most significant distribution channel and a significant source of drugs and
associated materials. Mexico is the home of the most dangerous cartels or drug trafficking
organizations specialized in the trade. The consequences of drug trafficking are the reasons for the

Analysis Of Magnificent Seven
For the Final Project this project will be focus on the movie The Magnificent Seven. This movie is a
compelling movie that show a group of bound hunters caring more about the job more than the money.
Some of the characters in the movie went through internet conflict that led them to change throughout
the movie. In Magnificent Seven we can see many example of binary opposition and position
throughout the plot of the movie. The villain Bogue want to seize control of the town of Rose Creek to
dig for gold in the mines. Emma Cullen and some of the townsfolks turn to bound hunters to protect
them from the tyranny of Bugue and his gang. The movie director of Magnificent Seven use political
agendas in the plot and through the characters because he wants to reveal how the indulgence of
money can cause people to be corrupt and to others people money can be less important than life. By
trying to reveal this truth the director used the Marxist Literary Theory and the Postcolonial Theory to
hope change society outlook on money. In Magnificent Seven some of the character is empowered and
disempowered to the plot social orders. The bound hunter s political orders made them empowered
because protecting the people of Rose Creek was more important to them at the end. The job became
more valuable than the money. Some of the bound hunter s risk and sacrifice their life s to protect the
people of Rose Creek town from the epic battle at the end. The main bound hunter Sam Chisolm can
be describe as a round and dynamic character. When Sam Chisolm recruit the gang of bound hunters
they were about the reward money for protecting the townsfolks. At the end of the movie their point of
view changes a lot. Bogus can be describe as a static and flat character. Bogue is the main protagonist
in the movie. Bogue doesn t change in the movie because his main intention is to take control over the
town, so he can get richer. These character trails for Bogue disempowered him in the movie plot.
When Bogue was killed in the church the toward the end is symbol, which mean House of Judgement
for all his sins. Bogue burn down the church to lower the townsfolk morally in the beginning of the
movie.

Response to Literature
The free bird thinks of another breeze....a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams... The two literary
works I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou and Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird
can be seen as mockingbirds that have flown over fields of prejudice and repeat what they have seen
for all to hear. Jem Finch, a young boy and lawyer s son from To Kill a Mockingbird clearly
symbolizes a mockingbird because of his youth and innocence, and because of his innocence he
cannot fully understand the racism in the story. Jem also has many similarities to the caged and free
birds in I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings , whether it be Jem s ... Show more content on

While Jem was a young boy he acted very similar to the free bird in I Know Why the Caged Bird
Sings. He lived life to its fullest never stopping to think of the racism he was being shielded from. The
free bird thinks of another breeze and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees and the fat worms
waiting on a dawn bright lawn and he names the sky his own. (Angelou, 14 18) In this stanza of the
poem you can infer that the free bird is very happy with life and never thinks of anything upsetting.
The upsetting things in this instance would be the racism in the story; the free bird never stops to think
about the caged bird. As the summer progressed, so did our game. (Lee, pg. 52) When Jem and his
sister Scout meet Dill, a boy in their neighbor s yard, they get to know him and play with him. They
are always thinking of improving their game, living life to its fullest as much as a kid can. When they
are playing said game, Jem never stops to think about the racism in the world and is shielded from it
by the fun of being a kid. Concluding that they are similar characters because both Jem and the free
bird enjoy their lives. Another reason why the free bird and Jem , the symbol of a mockingbird are
similar is they are both able to do what they please. A free bird leaps on the back of the wind and
floats downstream till the current ands and dips his wing

Crime Data Measuring Crime Essay
Crime throughout the United States is measured through statistics. Whether they are small crimes,
blue color crimes, drugs, and even murder, these statistics help the criminal justice system to develop
new laws that need to be put in place and to see how current programs are working. There are two
statistical reports used to measure crime in the United States; they are the (UCR) Uniform Crime
Report and the (NCVS) National Crime Victimization Survey. There is a third and it is self reported
crimes by individuals. These systems being used are a great foundation for tracking trends in crimes
but they are only as accurate as the people/systems that give to them. Although these are here to report
criminal information to several agencies, they do not reflect all the numbers because there are a lot of
crimes that go unreported.
The Uniform Crime Report (UCR), which the Federal Bureau of Investigation began in 1929, collects

Certain crimes through the United States are not reported because some individuals do not feel
comfortable reporting them and or some criminals do not always get caught. When criminals are
caught, they do not always go to trial because either there is not sufficient evidence or witnesses do
not come forward. Recidivism statistics today should be looked at more closely, especially prior to
these criminals being released. The problem could be that the programs that are implemented in the
system to reform the criminals prior to release are not working or the criminals are beating the system
by lying. Either way, these two statistics go hand in hand because the crimes are either being
committed by new criminals or repeat offenders and some of these crimes are not being reported. The
reporting systems and law enforcement agencies should go back and review these numbers and find a
better way to track these criminals, criminal activities, arresting procedures, and prison

Comparing Low-Carbohydrate Diets and Low-Fat Diets Essay
Comparing Low Carbohydrate Diets and Low Fat Diets
The two diets I will be focusing on are comparing the low carbohydrate diet or the Atkins diet to low
fat diets. The low carbohydrate diet on one hand restricts the amount of carbohydrate a person
consumes, resulting in greater weight loss after six months compared to low fat diets. The low fat diet,
on the other hand, allows people to lose weight by restring the amount of fat they consume on a daily
basis thus causing the person to lose weight as well, but not as much as they would have had they been
on a low carbohydrate diet for the pass six months. Although a person initially loses less weight on the
low fat diet, they eventually lose the same amount ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Insulin is what allows our body cells to store fat, which is not what a person wants when they are
trying to lose weight. However this diet claims to work, there are other options out there beside this
diet, one of which is the low fat diet.
The low carbohydrate or the Atkins diet is usually compared to low fat diets, a diet that follows very
different rules. The low fat diet on the other hand encourages people to eat carbohydrates, the diet
actually tells people to replace foods that are high in fat with foods such as vegetables, fruits, and
pastas. The low fat diet asks followers to eat what the Atkins diet asks people to avoid. While the low
carbohydrate diet stresses that people avoid carbohydrates and replace it with foods that are protein
and fat rich, such as meats, cheeses, and fish. The low fat diet stresses that people should avoid these
types of foods that have a lot of fat and eat foods that have a lot of protein and carbohydrates to fill a
person up. The low fat diet unlike the Atkins diet, allows people to center their diets around having a
lot of fruits and vegetables. The low fat diets also claim that by not eating fatty foods such as beef and
other red meats like
Atkins suggests, it can lower a person s cholesterol, thus help prevent things such as heart disease
according to previous research. Some followers claim that the low fat diet is actually easier to follow

How Does Charlie Brooker Use The Satire In Black Mirror
Black Mirror is a British television series created by Charlie Brooker about technology that is set in
the near future. Each episode is a stand alone science fiction drama. The show uses dark satire in
which technology creates a dystopia, eerily similar to what could happen in reality. The common
theme in a few of the episodes is how the government influences and controls the people. Season two,
episode two: White Bear. It begins with a woman, named Victoria, who wakes up with no memory, in
a house, alone. She leaves to get help, but finds that all the other people are hiding in their houses, but
when they see her, they come out to silently follow and record her on their phones. Then a group of

People can casually project almost anything they want with minimal consequences. But in this
episode, there were actual consequences. But more people voted after the deaths were linked to the
hashtag. And it came back around at the end. The government had control by spying on the people
with the drones, and that was the reason the technology was compromised. This episode is successful
because it links government spying with social media. It shows how all technology is interconnected
and that there are many outcomes that may lead to unintended consequences. Black Mirror has been
largely successful since it has been out on Netflix. Before, it only aired in the UK, and had a small
following. It is heavily influenced by The Twilight Zone, with self contained stories that are both
science fiction set in a different time, but offer social commentary to today s problems. Because it hits
so close to home, Black Mirror has become very popular, even years after it first came out. Since
every episode is a stand alone, the creators can cover a wider range of topics without having to stick to
the same plot, just the common theme of technology. So there is an episode for

Distribution Channels and Consumer Adoption
3. THEORY AND LITERATURE REVIEW
This chapter will present the theoretical framework used in this master´s thesis. This chapter gives an
overview of theories explaining distribution channels and consumer adoption. Ending with a literature
review in financial service research, a research area closely related to digital receipts.
3.1. Distribution channels
A distribution chain also known as value chain can be described as a set of interdependent
organizations or businesses involved in making a product or service available, from producer to end
customer (Kotler, et al., 2012).
The function of the value chain is to contribute with cost efficient activities and simplify the purchase
process (Coughlan et al., 2006). But if the chain consists of many actors the ones far back could have
limited or no contact with customers resulting in lost of valuable information (REF).
According to Bucklin (1966) it s important to understand customer preferences when designing the
value chain. This because the value chain will only be viable over time if customers feel that it
provides a form of value. This value is created if the actors of the chain provide activities that result in
cost efficiency and/ or better service. There are five service performance areas where actors can create
this value: unit size, availability, waiting time, variation in production and information (REF).
When designing value chains one must take into account three important dimensions. These are: 1) the
length

Skeletal System Essay
The basic framework of the body is a system of 206 bones and the joints between them are known as
the skeleton. Bones have a number of functions in the body, they serve as a firm framework, protect
delicate structures as the brain and spinal cord. They work as levers with attached muscles to produce
movement, they store calcium salts, which may be reabsorbed into the blood if calcium is needed, and
they produce red blood cells (in the red marrow). Bones are organs, with their own systems of blood
vessels, lymphatic vessels and nerves. There are two types of bone tissue. One type is compact bone,
which is hard and dense. The second type is spongy bone. It is made of a meshwork of small, bony
plates, filled with red marrow. The human skeleton ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

position of the bones at a joint. Maintenance of posture a partial of muscle known, as muscle tone,
keeps the body in position. Muscles generate most of the heat needed to keep the body at 37 degree
Celsius. Heat is a natural byproduct of muscle cell metabolism. The structure of muscle is held by
connective tissue. There are three kinds of muscle tissue: smooth muscle which is in the wall of
hollow organs, vessels and respiratory passageways. Its action produces peristalsis; contracts and
relaxes slowly; may sustain contraction, it is an involuntary muscle. The cardiac muscle lies in the

rhythmically and continuously to provide the pumping action needed to maintain constant blood flow.
The skeletal muscle is attached to bones. It produces movement at the joints; stimulated by the

The Impact Of Social Media On Body Image
In today s society, social media has increased drastically and has become an essential part of many
individuals lives. Unfortunately, studies show that social media negatively impacts women s
perceptions about their own beauty and self worth; research shows that the media portrays beauty as
an unrealistic standard, and due to this, women are suffering from negative body images (Cash Henry,
1995). From models and celebrities to magazines and billboards, unnatural beauty ideals are
emphasized to women everywhere. Although they are unrealistic, society has managed to push them
on women and make them feel like being natural is not acceptable. Part of the issue is that media does
not portray women of all types, shapes, colors, and forms as beautiful (Patton, 2006). Furthermore, an
inequality in the beauty standards between males and females must be addressed in order to combat
the harmful injustices caused by the unequal expectations of beauty of the sexes.
A study done by Engeln Maddox (2005) researched college women s cognitive processing of print
advertisements when presented pictures of very attractive female models consistent with ideal beauty
standards. The researchers wanted to discover how to images affected the participants and whether
critical processing could combat against social comparison. The researchers found that making social

Incarceration of African American Males Essay
Introduction
The trend of African American males between the ages of 25 and 29 has seen a dramatic increase of
incarceration. Attention has been focusing on areas of housing, education, and healthcare but the most
prominent problem for African American males is the increase in the incarceration rate. African
American males between the ages of 25 and 29 incarceration rate has been thought, by many, to be
caused by economic factors such as under employment or unemployment, poor housing, lack of
education, and lack of healthcare. Yet, others believe it is due to the imbalance of minorities within the
criminal justice system, such as judges, lawyers, and lawmakers.

Decades of failed public and private remedies for chronic disparities and disadvantages in
communities of color invite us to reexamine systems and institutions that provide and restrict

The causes seem to be intertwined being poor, equals lack of education, which equals lack of

Dulce Et Decorum Est Patriotism Essay
When warfare demands allegiance from a multitude of soldiers, a person might expect the soldiers to
display heroism and nobility; however, when the world is stricken with this warfare disease, the troops
might possess contradicting feelings especially when they are actually on the battlefield. In Wilfred
Owen s poem Dulce et Decorum Est, the reality of patriotism is illustrated through conflict and
graphic imagery, and it is realized that a soldier s portrayal of patriotism is filled with a harsh reality
of suffering from the things seen, heard, and felt over the course of a war. Throughout the entire poem,
internal and external conflicts are present. The setting takes place during a war in the early twentieth

combat accounts that bring the act of war to life and all the monstrosities with it. To capture the

describe their lack of energy but their will to keep marching on (line 2). To illustrate the hardships
faced by the troops who have lost even their boots, Owen uses his skill of imagery to convey and
intensify the moment saying, But limped on, blood shod (line 6). Additional phrases used with the
intention of imagery are white eyes writhing in the face and blood gargling out from the froth
corrupted lungs (lines 19, 22). Also, a mental image is painted when the deadly gas is emitted in the
air and an ecstasy of fumbling occurs which guides one unlucky man to inhale the toxic fumes leading

Acropolis; a mass of rock sharply rising out of the plain around Athens. The Parthenon is a
replacement for an unfinished earlier temple that was destroyed by the Persians; the archaic remains of
this were partially used to construct this magnificent building. The construction began in about 447
BC and was completed by 432 BC3. The three major elements forming the sculpted ornament on The

Overall, the general portrayal of classical Athens seems to emphasize and celebrate the cultural
identity of Athens. In particular, the historical theory, which argues that the procession occurs before
the Battle at Marathon, seems the most plausible for a number for reasons. It is probable that the
Athenian people would want to demonstrate something that is culturally and historically significant,
especially something so significant such as defeating a long time enemy the Persians. Even though
this would be unusual for Greek art and architecture as it is not mythological, the present theories that
relate to myth do not seem rather forced and do not make much sense compared to this alternative. It
should be noted that many Greek gods are still portrayed in the east frieze, thus somewhat aligning
with this norm. In addition, since the purpose Pericles s building program was to demonstrate the
superiority of the city of Athens, it seems particularly conceivable that the frieze would have done just
that. The Parthenon frieze is a unique monument, unmatched in size and complexity in Classical
Greek relief sculpture; it makes sense that its designers were capable of representing something

Gang Violence Essay
In society most people feel safe and do not have a sense of urgency that something appalling will
transpire around them. Although these people may hear about the surplus of current events going on
around the world today that may be abysmal they tend to not care because they perceive that it will not
arise around their home. Gang violence in youths is a prominent problem around numerous portions of
the world today. Youths are forced to go along with the engagements taken place in the gang which
can be cataclysmic to society and themselves. The life of a youth and their family can be altered by
just one simple decision to join a gang, put many people in danger of being hurt, however there are

This is noticeable because it not only affects the appearance of the youth but it also affects their
decisions. Due to the colossal amounts of drugs consumed by these teens they are habitually
subconscious while making decisions which leave them susceptible to constructing bad decisions. . It
is tough for a family of a youth in a gang but it is even tougher for the youth themselves to acclimate
to. Therefore as portrayed, it can be really overwhelming for both a youth and their family when their
child decides to join a gang. Gangs put society in an unsafe state filled with destruction. Lee states that
A twenty one year old man was stabbed to death by several gang members (2). This is just a portion of
the massive deterioration caused by a gang. Gangs tend to do things that are even more severe,
especially youth gangs. Hagdorn justifies this by stating youth gangs destroy society both mentally
and physically . (8) They destroy society physically by hurting people and killing innocent people.
The mental obliteration takes a more sophisticated method. They use stereotypical comments that
portray prejudice conceptions which pertain to mainly ethnic groups and different racial groups.
Cohan mentions that the number of street gang killings has risen up more than 50 % between 2005 to
2008 (1). This means many innocent people are losing their lives while doing their everyday routine
such as walking on the streets. If walking on the streets puts

Sikh Diet Research Paper
Another important Sikh ideal is that we should not eat things that result from the killing of an animal.
It is not correct however to say that the Sikh diet is a vegan diet. It is adequate to eat or drink
something that an animal produces but it is not adequate to eat or drink something that comes from the
killing of an animal or living being in general. In the Siri Guru Granth Sahib it says, Whosoever takes
Marijuana, fish and alcoholic drinks; all his pilgrimages, fasts and performance of religious practices

One way the caste system is abolished is through langar. Langar is the free kitchen and dinning hall, or
other provision for serving meals that must be attached to the Gurdwaras. The purpose was to clearly
eliminate caste on the territory of the Gurdwara and so to eliminate it as either as a means or a
hindrance to liberation (Mcleod 121). A Sikh practice in which everyone sits down on the floor
together and takes part in eating langar together is seen at all Gurdwaras. This is an important Sikh
practice because it allows everyone to sit at one level and eat the same meal. No one person is higher
than another and that is the goal of this practice as mentioned. Sikhism focuses largely on equality and
today it is still seen that equality in all is not seen. Sikhs fight for equality as a whole in America
especially after the 9/11 attacks but there is a lack of equality seen in the Sikh diaspora itself. For
example many of the Sikhs still believe in the caste system. This is especially seen in marriage. A lot
of the parents will only allow their children to marry within their own caste. This goes against Guru

Thanatopsis By William Cullen Bryant
William Cullen Bryant s poem Thanatopsis is centered around the theme of death. Bryant manages to
keep the poem joyful and uplifting trying to help young readers understand that death is unavoidable.
He is able to convey the idea of death by comparing it to nature and making it much less threatening.
Death is a part of the circle of life and nature is full of examples to reinforce this idea.
In the first stanza, Bryant uses nature to describe death. He gives nature human traits such as voice,
emotions, beauty, and thought. By doing this, he takes the fear out of death and makes it appear more
peaceful. Through his words voice of gladness it takes away the apprehension of the unknown.
In the 2nd stanza, his words the earth, that nourished

Economics of the Financial System
Show how transactions in derivatives can be used to either hedge risk or to open speculative positions.
Derivatives have become popular in response to the increasing volatility and complexity of financial
markets. A diverse range of new financial products have been created to enable market participants to
handle the risks arising from trade in securities and to speculate on future expected movements in
securities prices, without direct trade in the assets themselves. Derivative contract creates a promise to

the index in response. Amana will profit on its future position, because the future price paid at which
the index is sold will be less than price paid for the index at settlement date.
After a month, the stock market falls as anticipated, and the futures price of the DJIA is at an index
level of 19,000. DJIA futures contract are rated at £10 the DJIA index, so Amana stands to gain. Sold
DJIA futures for 20,000; receives 20,000 times £10 =£200,000 Purchased DJIA futures for 19,000;
owes 19,000 times £10 =£190,000 Gain is £200,000 £190,000 = £10,000
This shows that Amana benefits from selling a DJIA futures contract. Amana has gained from a
market decline, which can partially counterbalance the loss on its existing stock portfolio. However, to
hedge a huge stock of portfolio, Amana would have to take a short position that had a value equal to
the size of its entire stock portfolio.
Options give one party the right, but not the obligation, to buy (or sell) at a set price on an agreed

Knowing how to identify internal strengths and weakness can be beneficial in helping to prepare for

can create a heavy burden. Making a realistic study schedule and having the proper study space that is
free from distractions and kept well organized is vital (Shelley, 2005). Test anxiety is a very common
trait that occurs in many people. You have spent weeks studying for the examination, covered every
single topic and read every single material having to deal with the upcoming exam. You walk into the
classroom, sit down, and retrieve all your materials that you need. The instructor hands out your exam

Song Of Myself Poem Analysis
As stated above, Song of Myself is one of the original 12 poems from the original publication of
Leaves of Grass that eventually grew to encompass 52 sections of Whitman s expression of what he
believed being an American truly meant in a way that caught to unite all people regardless of who they
were or how they lived their life. The poem is centered around 5 themes, with those 5 being identity,
Whitman s vision of an American in which everyone was equal and united as one, friendship,
spirituality, and sexuality.
The first theme, identity, is perhaps the most central theme of the poem, despite the word itself only
appearing in the poem a handful of times. To elaborate, Whitman was drawn to the idea of the
transcendentalist principal of the oversoul the soul that is connected to the souls of everyone on this
earth; in his mind, private experiences and thoughts were nonexistent, instead, he believed that he
experienced the pain and suffering as well as the joys and pleasures of the natural world and all of its
inhabitance because he is connected to them by the oversoul and thereby was at one with them, or so
to speak. This belief is greatly reflected through the poem, although, a good example of such can be
seen in the first section of the poem, in which he states that he celebrates himself and assumes what
you(the reader) shall assume because for every atom belonging to me as good belonging to you ; when
he says he celebrates himself , he is actually referring

Transnational Corporation (TNC) Networks
The term of Transnational Corporation (TNC), as its name suggests, is a reference to a firm whose
influence is not limited to a single nation. A transnational corporation is a firm that has the power to
coordinate and control operations in more than one country (Dicken, 2011, p. 110). This influence can
take many forms such as subsidiaries or production facilities in other countries, but ownership is not
mandatory for a corporation to have sway in another country. A TNC could gain power in a country
other than its home through connections to suppliers or through the act of outsourcing (Stevis,
Transnational Corporations, 2013). These connections also hint at an idea, suggested by Dicken, that

There are multitudes of roles that states can fill; which they are called upon to undertake can depend
on the type of capitalism and the wishes of the administration currently in power. One of the most
common roles of a state is to function as a regulator over the economy. Under this role, states can
provide structure to help support stable and functioning markets, such as providing the means to
protect property rights; regulations can also be used to restrict certain forms of trade, or to see that a
certain issue that is important to the population of the country is addressed (Stevis, Roles of Sates,
2013). Beyond this basic role, states can also act as both Collaborators and Competitors towards
private firms. States can collaborate to help bring a certain firm to the country, or to help others
compete in a certain market in the world political economy through subsidies and other benefits
(Stevis, Roles of Sates, 2013). States, however, can play the reverse role by competing against a firm
or market. This can take the form of both direct competition, such as through state owned enterprises,
or more indirect methods, subsidizing an opposing industry (Stevis, State Capitalism, 2013).
Relationship of States and TNCs Like the variance in the roles many states take on, the interactions of
states and TNCs can differ greatly. While it depends significantly on the form of capitalism the state
adheres to, the

Incompetence Is Considered An Effective Employee
If an employee has been guilty of serious misconduct, habitual neglect of duty, incompetence or
conduct incompatible with his duties, or prejudicial to the employer s business, or if he has been guilty
of willful disobedience to the employer s orders in a matter of substance, the law recognizes the
employer s right summarily to dismiss the delinquent employee.
This definition of just cause, which was set in 1967 by the Ontario Court of Appeal, continues to be
referred to today. When just cause is proved, an employee can be dismissed without notice or

The employer may even input a program to assist the employee in increasing their performance.
Unionized or tenured employees are a special case when it comes to being able to dismiss an
incompetent employee. For example, a professor, who has tenure, fits the special case of an employee
who has worked for numerous years in the position and is then seemingly guaranteed the job for life.
College administrators frequently claim that faculty tenure prevents them from adapting the
curriculum more effectively to accommodate changes in the economy and to the patterns of student
demand. Which is why some commentators, of course, welcome the collapse of the tenure system,
saying tenure provides job security for indolent and incompetent professors. 4 Situations as above,
makes people question why professors with tenure are able to get away with being incompetent, but
other employees need to be careful and avoid it.
The current precedent case in Canada acting as the authority in situations of dismissal on grounds of
incompetence can be found in the Manitoba Court of Queen s Bench ruling of Boulet v. Federated Co

Walter Sobchak Should Be Charged Under New York Penal Law...
Question 1: Based on the evidence, Walter Sobchak should be charged under New York Penal Law
125.25, which is murder in the second degree. Upon seeing is wife Meara Ramos, in bed with James P.
Sullivan, Sobchak makes the conscious decision to pick up his firearm, a deadly weapon and shoot it

although it does not harm Sullivan, the intended victim it does cause the death of another person.
Under these circumstances Sobchak, is wholly responsible for the death of Vedder and liable under

another man in bed with his wife caused Sobchak, to act under the influence of extreme emotional
disturbance. It could be argued that it is reasonable for a devoted husband to take this course of action
given the situation and the circumstances. He committed an act he otherwise would not have.

Public transportation is much more environmental friendly compared to private cars, it doesn t

in your customer service improvement efforts. After all, if you can please these tough customers you

Sailing across the great waters, the St. Joseph currently housed three nuns of the Augustinian order
and three from the Ursuline order with a small number of priests. These were the remaining from the

Sister Agatha had prepared for this journey by studying under Mother Superior in the hospital. She
had an aptitude for identifying diseases.
As the ship glided towards the dock, Sister Agatha saw men in various attire. Most striking were the
men standing stoic wearing animal skins. These must be the Natives they were taught so much about.

Forgetting about small smiles, Sister Agatha went outside immediately with a large smile on her face
showing the men all was well.
Taking a few confident steps towards her, the Native man raised his right arm and motioned for her to
follow him. Though she had no idea what his intentions were, she trusted him and did as he wished.
Following him down the path to the river, where she would have expected to cross the river now stood
a beautifully constructed bridge. On the simple rails were carvings of men carrying their dead and
behind them Sister Agatha.
She turned to look at the man who motioned his hands towards the entire bridge and pointed to her.

understood, he had this built for her.

Wireless Deployment Plan
Wireless Deployment Plan Overview
The wireless deployment plan overview is to list out the requirements for the deployment of a wireless
infrastructure to a multi building campus for an education Institute. This campus has a single campus
but has many other buildings that are part of this one campus. There will be several lands inside of this
network and connecting them together we ll make this a win however when it comes to Camp assist it
is called a can which stands for campus area network. There are many aspects to a wireless
deployment phase and in the institution of a open network for the campus there has to be something
put in place to cover every area and to be able to give the students the connection that they properly
need. The network ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because this is going to incorporate a whole campus there will be a wireless receiver at the top of
every building. However we will have them all in together so that way they work as one and a student
will be able to access any of them from any location and allow them to transition from one to another
with ease. We will also incorporate a repeater on the bottom floor to allow for full building coverage
and to extend the network throughout the campus itself. The Only Exception will be for the library
and in the library we will have a strict Network that will allow for the students to be able to access
specific training material and the library s internal architecture. The equipment itself will be a very
good Mount of switches and routers to allow for easy authentication and access. The equipment will
be scattered throughout each building and we will ensure that there is proper coverage of the wireless
network and proper capability of the staff meeting to be able to handle the amount of devices inside of

Scientific Structures
An Analysis on Scientific Structures In recent times, there have been three individuals who have
provided their interpretations on that structures of science. Thomas Kuhn developed the idea of
paradigms, which are nested concepts for looking at the world, and later would propose the idea
paradigm shifts for what he called the Kuhn Cycle. Following Kuhn s work, Imre Lakatos and Larry
Laudan created their own analysis on scientific structures using Kuhn s work as a base for their own.
Lakatos and Laudan both attempted to rationalize and improve on Kuhn s work. In this essay, I will
attempt to analyze the differences in Kuhn s work as compared to Lakatos and Laudan and explain
which account of scientific structures is the most persuasive to believe in. Paradigms are really just
conceptual frameworks through which we interpret the world. In this case, Kuhn applies the concept
of paradigms to the sciences to create the Kuhn Cycle. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One interpretation of the Kuhn Cycle depends on how one views the concept of incommensurability,
which is the concept that standards of evalution such as rules or laws change or even shift from
generation to generation and cannot be compared to one another. With a strong interpretation of
incommensurability, knowledge is relative to each paradigm and as a result it becomes difficuilt to
figure out if science truly makes progress. There is no reason to prefer one paradigm as being superior
to another. With a weak interpretation of incommensurability, science does make progress as
knowledge increases and is not relative. The fact that Kuhn relies on the concept of
incommensurability in order to save his account of the structure of sciences is enough to prove that his
account is not reliable. His account is the byproduct of a historical paradigm; therefore, its truth value
will depend on one s interpretation of incommensurability. If so, how can we really say Kuhn s
account is

The Ever Changing Definition Of Home
The Ever Changing Definition of Home (change title)
I guess one might call it naivete, but at first, I simply associated home with the single definition of
where an individual lived or as something synonymous to an address. As I progressed into high
school, and moved yet once again, I realized that was not the case. Now I believe home is an
atmosphere created by the people that are surrounding me. I can be anywhere and feel at home as long
as I m with those people. My home is ever changing and developing as new people come in and out of
my life. The unforgettable memories and feelings of comfort and love created by the people
surrounding me are the cornerstone of my idea of home.
My house was teepeed or toilet papered during my last week in California. My older sister and I both
woke up disoriented, to our dog barking. We sleeply opened the front door assuming he had to pee,
but when we stepped out of the house we saw white. There were countless rolls of toilet paper hanging
from the countless number of trees. We stood there stunned. Already frazzled, I remembered how my
mom had warned us that if we wanted to get our security deposit returned on our rented house, the
house would have to be in tip top condition for the inspection. Our house had never been t ped before.
Why did it have to be tped the day of the inspection?
Our backyard was huge, so I marveled at the amount of time, effort, and toilet paper the pranksters
had exhausted to cover the large ground stretching

Evolution And Adaptive Value Of Brood Parasitism Within...
The Evolution and Adaptive Value of Brood Parasitism within Cuckoo Birds.
Abstract
Brood parasitism is a unique behavior performed by some species that tricks another host species into
raising its young. This is a fairly common behavior among the Cuculidae family of which 53 of the
136 species perform brood parasitism. My question and what I hope to review within this paper is,
what has caused brood parasitism, what has shaped it, and what are the adaptive values of Cuckoo
brood parasitism? Within Cuckoo s, this strange behavior has ultimately been shaped through
environmental pressures and has become advantageous. Ecological changes forced Cuckoo s to
change migrational patterns, habitat, range size, and foraging, which lead to brood parasitism. Once
brood parasitism arose, a coevolutionary arms race began between the Cuckoo s and hosts. Due to
parasitic egg rejections, Cuckoo eggs that closely resembled host eggs were selected for, leading to
higher success rates of the behavior. This gives Cuckoo s many advantageous , as there is no longer a
need for investing time and energy into raising their young. Brood parasitism also gives Cuckoo s the
advantage of exploiting diverse breeding habitats; reduced diet restraints, and foraging. Ultimately this
behavior provides many benefits to Cuckoos and allows them successfully raise young while
providing no parental care.

occasionally for 24 h, at room temperature. Completion of the reaction was identified by TLC using
silica gel G. After completion of the reaction, the mixture was poured onto crushed ice, acidified if
necessary with dilute hydrochloric acid, and the solid that separated was isolated by filtration, dried
and purified by column chromatography on silica gel (100 200 mesh, Merck ), with a mixture of ethyl

  • 2. The Importance Of Housing In The United States I returned from my deployment to Afghanistan tan, lean, and anxious about the impending nuptials a few weeks away. During the intervening time, I looked for a house that my wife and I could call home, our own expression of the American dream. I found a brick ranch in a neighborhood that had been built right after World War II probably to house a family in a very similar situation to my own. I was able to purchase the house thanks to a zero down loan from a local bank, guaranteed by the Veterans Administration. My situation was not a unusual one, but rather an echo of the development of suburbia. The United States was suffering from a severe housing shortage in the 1930 s and despite their best construction efforts, faced a worsening crisis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before these loan programs, buyers needed a 30% down payment, but the FHA loans could be made with a 10% down payment. The structure of the FHA and VA loan programs reduced the administrative costs associated with loan origination by 15 percent and lowered the interest rate by two or three percentage points. By increasing the amount of leverage people could deploy to buy a house, the FHA made purchasing a home a possibility for people who used to rent, with one person noting that they, ...had been paying $50 per month rent, and here we come up and live for $29 a month. This motivated people who were renting in the city to move out into the suburbs where they could buy their own home, contributing to the white middle class flight from the city. FHA loans for repairing a home had worse terms than buying a new home, which incentivized people to purchase a new dwelling rather than repair their current one. The Veterans Administration and Federal Housing Administration loan programs allowed for a large portion of the American people to shift from long term renters to potential home owners, which provided a ready pool of buyers for new home ... In other words, one can say that Super Bowl LI kind of symbolizes the war. In the beginning of the war Germany was riding a hot hand in Adolf Hitler. Hitler was dominating all of Europe with ease just like Matt Ryan in the first half. The young power dominated the allies up until they woke the the sleeping beast, the USA. Right before entering the war the US was experiencing the Great Depression. Just like at halftime when the Patriots faced the largest deficit in Super Bowl history. On December 7, 1941, the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor which inspired many Americans to fight. Many believe that the day the US joined the war was the turning point for the war. The turning point for the Patriots might have been the scoreboard in a sense. Looking up at that scoreboard could ve dropped a bomb on the Patriots sideline. Instead of feeling sorry for themselves both the soldiers and players got fired up and wanted to make a difference. Which is also a key trait to being an American, persevering through hardships no matter what. In the movie, Rocky the main character says, It s not about hard you get hit. • 5. Analysis Of Magnificent Seven For the Final Project this project will be focus on the movie The Magnificent Seven. This movie is a compelling movie that show a group of bound hunters caring more about the job more than the money. Some of the characters in the movie went through internet conflict that led them to change throughout the movie. In Magnificent Seven we can see many example of binary opposition and position throughout the plot of the movie. The villain Bogue want to seize control of the town of Rose Creek to dig for gold in the mines. Emma Cullen and some of the townsfolks turn to bound hunters to protect them from the tyranny of Bugue and his gang. The movie director of Magnificent Seven use political agendas in the plot and through the characters because he wants to reveal how the indulgence of money can cause people to be corrupt and to others people money can be less important than life. By trying to reveal this truth the director used the Marxist Literary Theory and the Postcolonial Theory to hope change society outlook on money. In Magnificent Seven some of the character is empowered and disempowered to the plot social orders. The bound hunter s political orders made them empowered because protecting the people of Rose Creek was more important to them at the end. The job became more valuable than the money. Some of the bound hunter s risk and sacrifice their life s to protect the people of Rose Creek town from the epic battle at the end. The main bound hunter Sam Chisolm can be describe as a round and dynamic character. When Sam Chisolm recruit the gang of bound hunters they were about the reward money for protecting the townsfolks. At the end of the movie their point of view changes a lot. Bogus can be describe as a static and flat character. Bogue is the main protagonist in the movie. Bogue doesn t change in the movie because his main intention is to take control over the town, so he can get richer. These character trails for Bogue disempowered him in the movie plot. When Bogue was killed in the church the toward the end is symbol, which mean House of Judgement for all his sins. Triginhall Mrs. Teacher Honors English 10 18 November 2012 Response to Literature The free bird thinks of another breeze....a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams... The two literary works I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou and Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird can be seen as mockingbirds that have flown over fields of prejudice and repeat what they have seen for all to hear. Jem Finch, a young boy and lawyer s son from To Kill a Mockingbird clearly symbolizes a mockingbird because of his youth and innocence, and because of his innocence he cannot fully understand the racism in the story. While Jem was a young boy he acted very similar to the free bird in I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. He lived life to its fullest never stopping to think of the racism he was being shielded from. The free bird thinks of another breeze and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn and he names the sky his own. (Angelou, 14 18) In this stanza of the poem you can infer that the free bird is very happy with life and never thinks of anything upsetting. The upsetting things in this instance would be the racism in the story; the free bird never stops to think about the caged bird. As the summer progressed, so did our game. (Lee, pg. 52) When Jem and his sister Scout meet Dill, a boy in their neighbor s yard, they get to know him and play with him. They are always thinking of improving their game, living life to its fullest as much as a kid can. When they are playing said game, Jem never stops to think about the racism in the world and is shielded from it by the fun of being a kid. Concluding that they are similar characters because both Jem and the free bird enjoy their lives. Another reason why the free bird and Jem , the symbol of a mockingbird are similar is they are both able to do what they please. Whether they are small crimes, blue color crimes, drugs, and even murder, these statistics help the criminal justice system to develop new laws that need to be put in place and to see how current programs are working. There are two statistical reports used to measure crime in the United States; they are the (UCR) Uniform Crime Report and the (NCVS) National Crime Victimization Survey. There is a third and it is self reported crimes by individuals. These systems being used are a great foundation for tracking trends in crimes but they are only as accurate as the people/systems that give to them. When criminals are caught, they do not always go to trial because either there is not sufficient evidence or witnesses do not come forward. Recidivism statistics today should be looked at more closely, especially prior to these criminals being released. The problem could be that the programs that are implemented in the system to reform the criminals prior to release are not working or the criminals are beating the system by lying. Either way, these two statistics go hand in hand because the crimes are either being committed by new criminals or repeat offenders and some of these crimes are not being reported. • 11. Distribution Channels and Consumer Adoption 3. THEORY AND LITERATURE REVIEW This chapter will present the theoretical framework used in this master´s thesis. This chapter gives an overview of theories explaining distribution channels and consumer adoption. Ending with a literature review in financial service research, a research area closely related to digital receipts. 3.1. Distribution channels A distribution chain also known as value chain can be described as a set of interdependent organizations or businesses involved in making a product or service available, from producer to end customer (Kotler, et al., 2012). The function of the value chain is to contribute with cost efficient activities and simplify the purchase process (Coughlan et al., 2006). But if the chain consists of many actors the ones far back could have limited or no contact with customers resulting in lost of valuable information (REF). According to Bucklin (1966) it s important to understand customer preferences when designing the value chain. This because the value chain will only be viable over time if customers feel that it provides a form of value. This value is created if the actors of the chain provide activities that result in cost efficiency and/ or better service. There are five service performance areas where actors can create this value: unit size, availability, waiting time, variation in production and information (REF). When designing value chains one must take into account three important dimensions. These are: 1) the length ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bones have a number of functions in the body, they serve as a firm framework, protect delicate structures as the brain and spinal cord. They work as levers with attached muscles to produce movement, they store calcium salts, which may be reabsorbed into the blood if calcium is needed, and they produce red blood cells (in the red marrow). Bones are organs, with their own systems of blood vessels, lymphatic vessels and nerves. There are two types of bone tissue. One type is compact bone, which is hard and dense. Unfortunately, studies show that social media negatively impacts women s perceptions about their own beauty and self worth; research shows that the media portrays beauty as an unrealistic standard, and due to this, women are suffering from negative body images (Cash Henry, 1995). From models and celebrities to magazines and billboards, unnatural beauty ideals are emphasized to women everywhere. Although they are unrealistic, society has managed to push them on women and make them feel like being natural is not acceptable. Part of the issue is that media does not portray women of all types, shapes, colors, and forms as beautiful (Patton, 2006). Furthermore, an inequality in the beauty standards between males and females must be addressed in order to combat the harmful injustices caused by the unequal expectations of beauty of the sexes. A study done by Engeln Maddox (2005) researched college women s cognitive processing of print advertisements when presented pictures of very attractive female models consistent with ideal beauty standards. Dulce Et Decorum Est Patriotism Essay When warfare demands allegiance from a multitude of soldiers, a person might expect the soldiers to display heroism and nobility; however, when the world is stricken with this warfare disease, the troops might possess contradicting feelings especially when they are actually on the battlefield. In Wilfred Owen s poem Dulce et Decorum Est, the reality of patriotism is illustrated through conflict and graphic imagery, and it is realized that a soldier s portrayal of patriotism is filled with a harsh reality of suffering from the things seen, heard, and felt over the course of a war. Throughout the entire poem, internal and external conflicts are present. The setting takes place during a war in the early twentieth century, and it is within this terrain that allows a perfect condition for conflict and impaired ... He uses chilling combat accounts that bring the act of war to life and all the monstrosities with it. To illustrate the hardships faced by the troops who have lost even their boots, Owen uses his skill of imagery to convey and intensify the moment saying, But limped on, blood shod (line 6). Additional phrases used with the intention of imagery are white eyes writhing in the face and blood gargling out from the froth corrupted lungs (lines 19, 22). Also, a mental image is painted when the deadly gas is emitted in the air and an ecstasy of fumbling occurs which guides one unlucky man to inhale the toxic fumes leading him to [flounder] like a man in fire or lime (lines 9, 12). How Did Pericles Build The Parthenon In approximately 450 BC Athens premier statesman, Pericles, initiated a program of works designed to embellish his city in order to demonstrate the superiority of the city of Athens3. This crowing achievement of this program was The Parthenon, supervised by Pheidias3. It was built on the Acropolis; a mass of rock sharply rising out of the plain around Athens. The Parthenon is a replacement for an unfinished earlier temple that was destroyed by the Persians; the archaic remains of this were partially used to construct this magnificent building. The construction began in about 447 BC and was completed by 432 BC3. The three major elements forming the sculpted ornament on The Parthenon consists of the metopes, pediments, and the frieze. In particular, the historical theory, which argues that the procession occurs before the Battle at Marathon, seems the most plausible for a number for reasons. It is probable that the Athenian people would want to demonstrate something that is culturally and historically significant, especially something so significant such as defeating a long time enemy the Persians. Even though this would be unusual for Greek art and architecture as it is not mythological, the present theories that relate to myth do not seem rather forced and do not make much sense compared to this alternative. It should be noted that many Greek gods are still portrayed in the east frieze, thus somewhat aligning with this norm. In addition, since the purpose Pericles s building program was to demonstrate the superiority of the city of Athens, it seems particularly conceivable that the frieze would have done just that. The Parthenon frieze is a unique monument, unmatched in size and complexity in Classical Greek relief sculpture; it makes sense that its designers were capable of representing something ... Therefore as portrayed, it can be really overwhelming for both a youth and their family when their child decides to join a gang. Gangs put society in an unsafe state filled with destruction. Lee states that A twenty one year old man was stabbed to death by several gang members (2). This is just a portion of the massive deterioration caused by a gang. Gangs tend to do things that are even more severe, especially youth gangs. Hagdorn justifies this by stating youth gangs destroy society both mentally and physically . (8) They destroy society physically by hurting people and killing innocent people. The mental obliteration takes a more sophisticated method. They use stereotypical comments that portray prejudice conceptions which pertain to mainly ethnic groups and different racial groups. Song Of Myself Poem Analysis As stated above, Song of Myself is one of the original 12 poems from the original publication of Leaves of Grass that eventually grew to encompass 52 sections of Whitman s expression of what he believed being an American truly meant in a way that caught to unite all people regardless of who they were or how they lived their life. The poem is centered around 5 themes, with those 5 being identity, Whitman s vision of an American in which everyone was equal and united as one, friendship, spirituality, and sexuality. The first theme, identity, is perhaps the most central theme of the poem, despite the word itself only appearing in the poem a handful of times. To elaborate, Whitman was drawn to the idea of the transcendentalist principal of the oversoul the soul that is connected to the souls of everyone on this earth; in his mind, private experiences and thoughts were nonexistent, instead, he believed that he experienced the pain and suffering as well as the joys and pleasures of the natural world and all of its inhabitance because he is connected to them by the oversoul and thereby was at one with them, or so to speak. This belief is greatly reflected through the poem, although, a good example of such can be seen in the first section of the poem, in which he states that he celebrates himself and assumes what you(the reader) shall assume because for every atom belonging to me as good belonging to you ; when he says he celebrates himself , he is actually referring ... It could be argued that it is reasonable for a devoted husband to take this course of action given the situation and the circumstances. He committed an act he otherwise would not have. Sister Agatha assessed and acted upon the situation immediately. She ran to grab towels and motioned for the men to leave. What felt like hours passed and the child was finally, safely born. Forgetting about small smiles, Sister Agatha went outside immediately with a large smile on her face showing the men all was well. Taking a few confident steps towards her, the Native man raised his right arm and motioned for her to follow him. Though she had no idea what his intentions were, she trusted him and did as he wished. Following him down the path to the river, where she would have expected to cross the river now stood a beautifully constructed bridge. On the simple rails were carvings of men carrying their dead and behind them Sister Agatha. She turned to look at the man who motioned his hands towards the entire bridge and pointed to her. She looked at him puzzled, and he then walked to the carving and pointed to the image of her. She understood, he had this built for her. She bowed her head and nodded with tears in her eyes, showing her appreciation and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Wireless Deployment Plan Wireless Deployment Plan Overview The wireless deployment plan overview is to list out the requirements for the deployment of a wireless infrastructure to a multi building campus for an education Institute. This campus has a single campus but has many other buildings that are part of this one campus. There will be several lands inside of this network and connecting them together we ll make this a win however when it comes to Camp assist it is called a can which stands for campus area network. There are many aspects to a wireless deployment phase and in the institution of a open network for the campus there has to be something put in place to cover every area and to be able to give the students the connection that they properly need. The network ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because this is going to incorporate a whole campus there will be a wireless receiver at the top of every building. However we will have them all in together so that way they work as one and a student will be able to access any of them from any location and allow them to transition from one to another with ease. We will also incorporate a repeater on the bottom floor to allow for full building coverage and to extend the network throughout the campus itself. The Only Exception will be for the library and in the library we will have a strict Network that will allow for the students to be able to access specific training material and the library s internal architecture. The equipment itself will be a very good Mount of switches and routers to allow for easy authentication and access. The equipment will be scattered throughout each building and we will ensure that there is proper coverage of the wireless network and proper capability of the staff meeting to be able to handle the amount of devices inside of the ... • 42. Scientific Structures An Analysis on Scientific Structures In recent times, there have been three individuals who have provided their interpretations on that structures of science. Thomas Kuhn developed the idea of paradigms, which are nested concepts for looking at the world, and later would propose the idea paradigm shifts for what he called the Kuhn Cycle. Following Kuhn s work, Imre Lakatos and Larry Laudan created their own analysis on scientific structures using Kuhn s work as a base for their own. Lakatos and Laudan both attempted to rationalize and improve on Kuhn s work. In this essay, I will attempt to analyze the differences in Kuhn s work as compared to Lakatos and Laudan and explain which account of scientific structures is the most persuasive to believe in. Paradigms are really just conceptual frameworks through which we interpret the world. In this case, Kuhn applies the concept of paradigms to the sciences to create the Kuhn Cycle. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One interpretation of the Kuhn Cycle depends on how one views the concept of incommensurability, which is the concept that standards of evalution such as rules or laws change or even shift from generation to generation and cannot be compared to one another. With a strong interpretation of incommensurability, knowledge is relative to each paradigm and as a result it becomes difficuilt to figure out if science truly makes progress. There is no reason to prefer one paradigm as being superior to another. With a weak interpretation of incommensurability, science does make progress as knowledge increases and is not relative. The fact that Kuhn relies on the concept of incommensurability in order to save his account of the structure of sciences is enough to prove that his account is not reliable. His account is the byproduct of a historical paradigm; therefore, its truth value will depend on one s interpretation of incommensurability. If so, how can we really say Kuhn s account is ... • 43. The Ever Changing Definition Of Home The Ever Changing Definition of Home (change title) I guess one might call it naivete, but at first, I simply associated home with the single definition of where an individual lived or as something synonymous to an address. As I progressed into high school, and moved yet once again, I realized that was not the case. Now I believe home is an atmosphere created by the people that are surrounding me. I can be anywhere and feel at home as long as I m with those people. My home is ever changing and developing as new people come in and out of my life. The unforgettable memories and feelings of comfort and love created by the people surrounding me are the cornerstone of my idea of home. My house was teepeed or toilet papered during my last week in California. My older sister and I both woke up disoriented, to our dog barking. We sleeply opened the front door assuming he had to pee, but when we stepped out of the house we saw white. There were countless rolls of toilet paper hanging from the countless number of trees. We stood there stunned. Already frazzled, I remembered how my mom had warned us that if we wanted to get our security deposit returned on our rented house, the house would have to be in tip top condition for the inspection. Our house had never been t ped before. Why did it have to be tped the day of the inspection? Our backyard was huge, so I marveled at the amount of time, effort, and toilet paper the pranksters had exhausted to cover the large ground stretching ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Evolution And Adaptive Value Of Brood Parasitism Within... The Evolution and Adaptive Value of Brood Parasitism within Cuckoo Birds. Abstract Brood parasitism is a unique behavior performed by some species that tricks another host species into raising its young. This is a fairly common behavior among the Cuculidae family of which 53 of the 136 species perform brood parasitism. My question and what I hope to review within this paper is, what has caused brood parasitism, what has shaped it, and what are the adaptive values of Cuckoo brood parasitism? Within Cuckoo s, this strange behavior has ultimately been shaped through environmental pressures and has become advantageous. Ecological changes forced Cuckoo s to change migrational patterns, habitat, range size, and foraging, which lead to brood parasitism. Once brood parasitism arose, a coevolutionary arms race began between the Cuckoo s and hosts. Due to parasitic egg rejections, Cuckoo eggs that closely resembled host eggs were selected for, leading to higher success rates of the behavior. This gives Cuckoo s many advantageous , as there is no longer a need for investing time and energy into raising their young. Brood parasitism also gives Cuckoo s the advantage of exploiting diverse breeding habitats; reduced diet restraints, and foraging. Ultimately this behavior provides many benefits to Cuckoos and allows them successfully raise young while providing no parental care.
