2. What Is A Political Allegory In Lord Of The Flies
World War II caused an amount of destruction and harm that no human being had ever seen
before, many were disgusted and outraged by the results of this war. It was a very memorable
event; one that authors tend to write about a lot, even to this day. One author in particular,
WIlliam Golding, uses his world famous piece of literature Lord of the Flies as a political
allegory to World War 2. In his classic novel, he shows little boys who are flown out to avoid the
danger of being bombed and become trapped on an island. While they are trapped, the boys
develop separate ways of leading each other which leads to conflict and violence, similar to the
governments in which were clashing with each other during World War 2 at the time. Through
the differences of these boys, Golding shows to us how they relate to the major leaders of World
War 2 (Hitler, Franklin Roosevelt, and Neville Chamberlain), and how democracy is the best
way to govern people. Hitler was the ruler of Germany during World War II, and he ruled over
his people in fear. Jack is commonly described to being similar if not exactly like Hitler. Golding
leaves many examples in the novel to show how Jack and Hitler are alike. Both of them
promised their citizens a better life, they both promise their country meat (Golding 140), and they
both lead as a dictator, taking their power with force and leading as the only chief of the state. Jack
is described in the book as a terror (Golding 189) and Hitler has been

3. The Importance Of Basketball
I ve always loved the game but just never really cared for it, if that makes sense. The game of
basketball and other sports, such as: football, floor hockey, soccer, baseball, lacrosse, and
everything else was just a bunch of things that i m great at doing so I took the time effort to put in
daily to trying to be the best at everything. I feel like without me really trying and practicing and
working out all the timei just feel like it payed off in the end. Because little did i know that when
you play so many other a better basketballplay sports it only makes you better in so many other
different ways, like football can make you a better basketball player, and playing baseball can
make you a better hockey player. It s always the little things that count and matter the most when
you re not expecting it. I never knew that growing up with all the talent that i had can take me
very far in life and it took me too long to realize that. I m not upset with myself but i do think
back on the times were I trotted around when i should ve been working my hardest when nobody
was around, and i just wish that time can go back. In life a lot of things happen that you can
never go back into time and fix it, but there is one thing that you can do, you can make up for it
and work 10x harder no matter what your doing always wantto compete and want to be number 1
at everything that you do. It was hard to really understand what i could do with my talent, and how
far I can take it. As a kid i

4. The Government Intervention And Its Effect On National...
I. Introduction
Never before has there been one single element that has the capacity to affect everything we do
today. From the privacy of your home to the office you occupy daily or from how services such as
gas and water are delivered to us. What began with the Industrial Revolution has now progressed
into what is now the Digital Revolution.
Cybersecurity is one of many important elements when it comes to information security and how to
protect it. From the laws and regulations to who is ultimately responsible and the one to assume
responsibility when breaches take place. Whether it is the government or the private sector,
someone has to take charge because we all have a vested interest in protecting our families, our
businesses and our nation s security in cyberspace.
In this paper I researched into what government intervention is in the works when it comes to
cybersecurity and protecting national security, the responsibility of the private sector as it pertains
to the protection of critical infrastructure in the support of national security, and a past reflection on
successful cyberattacks that stress the point that continued partnerships are required to be successful.
II. Governing Cybersecurity
The government when required have to make the tough decisions to pass the right legislation along
and regulations in the best interest of the safety and security of the nation. Unfortunately today the

Exploring How Alfred Hitchcock Manipulates The Audience In Psycho
Alfred Joseph Hitchcock is thought to be, by most, the greatest film director of all time. He was
born in Leytonstone, London on13 August 1899. He directed many great films such as The
Lodger, The Birds, Sabotage, Notorious, Rear Window, and of course one of his greatest
achievements ever, Psycho in 1960. He directed the first British sound film Blackmail. Alfred
Hitchcock once said, Audience reaction is more important than the content of the film . Throughout
and before the playing of Psycho, Hitchcock manipulates the audience in many ways.

Normans mother is dead, but is alive in the mind of Norman. She is therefore dominating Normans
mind. Alfred Hitchcock makes us infer that the mother was alive throughout the film. This
manipulates the audience throughout the film. The audience thinks that the mother is alive, and
therefore, she can potentially be the killer in the film. She is the killer in the film, yet is not the
killer. Hitchcock also makes some scenes in the film sound so immense, that he is unable to
describe it. As he describes something, he talks really fast, giving us an impression that it is a fast
scene. He also does not finish the sentences. This makes the audience want to see what really
happens in the film.

When describing some scenes in the film, he uses hand movements to show twisting . This makes
us eager to see what happens. When Alfred Hitchcock reaches some parts of the set, he makes some

significant has happened there. This manipulates the audience because they know something is
going to happen, but do not know exactly what.
Music is also used to manipulate the audience during the trailer. Bernard Herrman composes the
main theme music used in Psycho. This music is very sinister,

6. Jonestown Massacre Research Paper
The Jonestown Massacre from 1978 was the biggest number of American lives lost caused by a
non natural occurrence before the 9/11 tragedy in 2001. Thousands of members were a part of
this San Francisco Temple, or as some call it, a cult. Harvey Milk and other local politicians were
members of the group led by Reverend Jim Jones. The cult moved to the South American jungle due
to the feeling of paranoia over the medias suspicions of questionable activities. Before the massacre,
Leo Ryan, a U.S. Congressman visited the South American site with concerns for the well being of

He persuaded the organization by using their children and armed guards as fear tactics.
Essentially, you had 3 options suicide, murder, or the idea of your children being ripped away.
Not only does leadership style play a big role in group conformity, but group size is also a
contributing factor. With bigger groups comes more conformity. If the majority of a group follows
along with the leader, the minority of the group will follow along with the majority. Especially
under stressful circumstances. The way things are communicated are also contributed to
conformity. If the leader of an organization has good communication skills that are persuasive, more

7. Informal Leadership In Sports Organizations
A leader is someone who directs a group where to go. This person exists in almost every team
and group (Vercillo, 2016). I have not been in a business organization, but I have been in a sports
organization, which have vast similarities. The entire program of a sports team is like a business
organization, and is supervised by a head director. In addition, the coaches are like the business top
managers and the players are like the employees in a business.
With sports, many leaders are within a team. I personally have been a coach, formal leader, and a
player, informal leader, when it comes to an organization, and I know that both are vastly
important. Through my experiences with dealing with sporting teams, I believe the best leaders are

addition, the informal leader, the player, wants what is best for the team to win at all costs. To
solve this problem, there has to be clear communication between the player and coach. Formal
leaders and informal leaders have to coexist in order for the betterment of the organization and team.
According to article, Leadership to the Power of 8, leaders have to manage and then lead self,

10,000 unburied bodies, and 40,000 sick, starving, or wounded. Thus proves this camp was one of
the most horrifying camps of the Holocaust.
Another camp called Treblinka was a pure killing center. This death camp opened in 1942,
making it one of the last death camps to open. The whole purpose of this place was to kill Jews.
They did this with 13 carbon monoxide chambers. The people were sent to the camp by trains,
unloaded, and sent into changing rooms. They were forced to give up their clothes and put new
ones on. They were sent to either so called quot;showers quot;, or a mass grave where they were
shot. The carbon monoxide chambers were disguised as the quot;showers. quot; As soon as the
Jews were in, they locked the doors and started pouring gas into them. This was the way they killed
the prisoners. The Nazis killed about 50,000 people per month, making it the most efficient
concentration camps ever made. This made Treblinka a pure killing center.
The most notorious concentration camp ever was Auschwitz Birkenau. Auschwitz was opened in
April of 1940. It became the first Annihilation death camp. It was also the largest death camp.

Pemberton Company, which gave him a huge salary, did not run so smoothly. The reason why
Pemberton s business did not run very well was due to the period of prohibition during the year
1885. Since Atlanta prohibited the use of alcohol in 1885, Pemberton had to swap the French
Wine Coca formula by removing the word French Wine (Biography John S. Pemberton Inventor

content for Coca Cola. Cocaine was then replaced with sugar, caffeine, starch, citric acid, and oil
fruits. For the main ingredient, Pemberton had to find and collect seeds cola plant native to
tropical regions of West Africa and the tree coca leaves from South Africa (Biography John S.

Pemberton made his business successful and the potion he had created was revealed as he had

11. Relationships Make Us Do Crazy Things
LoveRelationships make us do crazy things. The love that lies within relationships has led many
people to do irrational, erratic, erroneous, and unstable acts. People have killed, cheated, broken
people s hearts, ruined others lives, and ruined their own. Love is a rose. At first glance, and if
treated properly, it would look beautiful and romantic. However, when you get down to the roots
of it, pain stems and hurts you deeply, as the thorns pierce your skin. If you treat it properly,
cherish and nourish it, it will continue to live on and prosper. If disregarded and not cared for
correctly, it will slowly die away over time, and you will be left with nothing. Many people have
fell in love, and just as many have fallen out of it. It happens multiple times with the same
person, and it could very much happen with multiple people. As much as it is a thing of spirit
and unexplainable, there is some science behind the history of love and what it causes. What is
love, and why does it send us on an emotional rollercoaster through life without giving you the
slightest clue of when it will end? The answer is simple, actually. Love is usually explained as
magical and a thing of spirit, but science and psychology can very well explain how love can drive
us to do crazy things.

Ethanol Fuel According to the Renewable Fuels Association, ethanol production in 2013 added
more than 87,000 direct jobs across the country, $44 billion to the gross domestic product, and
$30.7 billion in household income ( Ethanol Benefits and Considerations ). A nonrenewable
resource, gasoline, currently occupies the United States s spot as the main fuel source. This not
only means our fuel supply will eventually be depleted, but the country s main fuel supply is
harming the environment. Throughout the last decade, the idea of ethanol, a renewable resource,
starting to replace gasoline has been debated, but until the last few years, remained implausible.
Recent technology innovations, enhancing the performance of ethanol fuel, transformed this idea
into a reality. The adoption of ethanol as the main source of our country s fuel not only benefits the
country as a whole but individuals vehicles . Lower greenhouse gasemissions prevail as the main
benefit of ethanol fuel. Greenhouse gases contribute to global warming, which affects the Earths

Sigmund Freud and Friedrich Nietzsche offer prominent critiques of civilization and morality that
greatly differ from the commonplace views of ethics and virtue. Rejecting the idea that morality is
an instinctive or natural element of human life, they both argue that morality is a reactionary
construction to the realities of the humanexistence. While both Nietzsche and Freud share this view,
their views on the value of moralitydiffer greatly. Nietzsche argues that morality suffocates and
chokes humanity. Freud on the other hand, claims that morality is an essential component of
civilization and solely responsible for enabling humans to live together peacefully. The disparity

This will to power is the animalistic hunger for attaining more power. But it is explained by him
that there are those who cannot simply achieve that goal through force. So this will to power is
eventually turned inwards, where the deprivation and repression of the basic instincts is seen as
having power over them. This lifestyle is what Nietzsche describes as asceticism. A lifestyle of
monks, priests and nuns, he describes it as having an aura of seriousness. This process of
forgetting common sense, distrusting the instinct and withdrawing from the world is the same
part of the same slaves revolt in morality that he explains in his earlier essay. This ascetic ideal is
further embodied in the then flourishing world of science. He describes science as the most recent
and noblest form of the ascetic ideal (Nietzsche 3.25), adding that science is not opposed to religion
or morality, it is aiming for truth. His optimism about civilization s advancement towards the truth
is a sharp contrast to the bound discontent of Freud. Yet Nietzsche does have his own doubts about
the faith in science. Similarly to the scientist questions the priest s faith in God, Nietzsche
recommends the conscience to doubt even faith in truth. He is in no form a relativist, but he states
emphasizes that knowing as many different perspectives as possible

There is an understood social order and staying in one s place retains balance and order in a
community or even a country. The leaders at the top are recognized to be equipped with great

substantial men in all their glory sit atop a mountain out of reach to the common man. Never would
we encounter them misusing their power for personal gain or to act under the confines of tradition

Beyond Commercial Jazz Duke Ellington, one of the most influential musicians in jazz, was
known to have described his own unique brand of the genre as American Music. While the reach of
jazz ended up breaking past the western hemisphere, it was a definitively American phenomenon
(Dyas). The style of the jazzage, exemplified notably by Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, described
perfectly the commercial birth of jazz and the spontaneous lifestyle of the 20 s. However, the
commercial styles of jazz such as the Dixieland of the 20 s and swing of the 30 s and 40 s could be
viewed as an introductory phase in the evolution of jazz (Scaruffi). If people were to look past the

Here is when have Miles Davis, for the third time setting the stage for style of jazz with two back
to back albums In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew (Scaruffi). One might have assumed that fusion
was a grasp towards commercialism, with rock music being the leading sound at this period, but
these releases of Miles s still have the experimental heart of jazz. In a Silent Way boasts a regular
jazz quintet, but with two pianists, an organist, and a guitarist (Scaruffi). The result was a hushed,
curious ambient sound that was the quiet of the storm to Miles s more ambitious Bitches Brew.
Bitches Brew was the true kick start to fusion: the ambitious double LP blurred rock and jazz
together into a torrential, impressionistic landscape that inspired many musicians, and pushed the
agenda that the combination of jazz and rock could have artistic integrity (Scaruffi). Multiple
fusion bands formed as a result of Bitches Brew alumni. Electric pianist Joe Zawinul joined forces
with Wayne Shorter to start the fusion band The Weather Report, gaining a diverse group of players
such as the talented electric bassist Jaco Pastorius (Blumenthal 147). John McLaughlin, another
Bitches Brew alumni formed the band Mahavishnu Orchestra which has recorded notable albums
such as The Inner Mounting Flame (Scaruffi). An analysis of In a Silent Way states that ...wasn t

Economic development refers to the sustained actions of communities, federal, state, and local
governments that improve our standard of living through the creation of jobs, new technologies,

Australian economy and the Chinese economy provide a detailed and comprehensive view of both

recession, GDP is generally low. Australia is a mixed market economy, where the government plays
a major role in providing collective goods and services while the private sector makes most of the

most other cereals. Each year, Ethiopian farmers plant almost 1.4 million hectares of tefand they
produce 0.9 million tons of grain or about a quarter of the country s total cereals. The grain is
especially popular in the western provinces, where people prefer it to all other cereals and eat it
once or twice (occasionally three times) every day. In that area, tef contributes about two thirds of
the protein to a typical diet Unlike other orphan crops, tef is not in decline. Indeed, farmers have

23. The Best Principles Of Persuasion
To achieve a successful business interaction, it is important to persuade the best possible manner
ever. Several researchers have studied how to persuade effectively, but the best principles of
persuasions were described by Robert Cialdini and the principles include reciprocity, scarcity,
authority, commitment and consistency, consensus and liking.
Reciprocity is the expectation of getting a return for a favor offered. This simply implies that for
everything that is given out, there is a certain expectation from the receiving end. Basically, one
can give out money and expect goods or services in return. In a business context, I might have the
mind set of making a potential customer a repeat buyer and to make that happen, I offer to help
the buyer by giving a discount. If the buyer shows appreciation and still comes back to get more of
the products, that means the favor has been reciprocated.
Scarcity is another principle of persuasion. Scarcity can be described as the rare availability of an
item. As a seller, one of the ways to persuade and make a potential buyer purchase your product is
to remind them of how rare the product is, especially if it is ... Show more content on

Over the last thirty years the fight over assisted suicide has earned a spot in the national spotlight,
for both positive and negative reasons depending on your stance on the issue. There have been
challenges made based off the constitution, the right to privacy and moral reasons for both sides.
While there have been many notable persons of interest during this time some have helped the

There have been attempts to challenge physician assisted suicide based off the Fourteenth
amendment of the constitution and the Due Process Clause. Those in favor have argued that in
not allowing people access to physician assisted suicide is a violation of the Due Process Clause
which was heard during the case of Cruzan v. Director, Missouri Department of Health in which the
Supreme Court ruled it was the patients right to refuse medical treatment, even if refusal would lead
to death (Cruzan v. Director, MHD). The Supreme Court also heard the case of Washington v.
Glucksberg in 1997 during which time there were four physicians arguing that Washington s
assisted suicide ban was unconstitutional because it violated the Fourteenth Amendments Due
Process Clause by placing undue burden of the liberty. The case was being arguing on behalf of
four terminally ill patients. It was ruled by the Supreme Court at that time that assisted suicide is
not a right under the fundamental liberties of the amendment (Washington v. Glucksberg). The

25. Living Conditions of Industrial Cities in the 19th Century
What Were Living Conditions Like in 19th Century Industrial Cities?
The living conditions in the Industrial Revolution varied from city to city depending on how
much the factory owners cared for their workers or how much industry went on there. The
Industrial Revolution gained pace during Victoria s reign because of the power of steam. Victorian
engineers developed larger powerful machines that could run whole factories. This led to a massive
increase in the number of factories. Despite the growing wealth due to trade and commerce, many
of the working people, who actually produced the wealth, lived, worked and died in very poor
conditions. The Industrial Revolution was stimulated by Britain s gargantuan empire and its
growing level of trade. There was increased demand for the export of goods from Britain and
greater pressure on importing goods into Britain.
The industrialisation of Britain s towns and cities had a detrimental effect on the people who came
to live there. Living conditions in the 1800s were incredibly unequal. The rich and powerful factory
owners would live out in the quiet peaceful countryside with lots of creature comforts, whilst
their workers would return into smelly, dirty and minuscule back to back terraces at the end of a
long working day. These homes were usually built with no inside toilets or running water. People
either washed in a tin bath or at a pump outside. Many people decided not to wash at all as it was
the easiest option. There was a

7 naval expeditions to Southeast Asia, Middle East and east coast of Africa in the span of 28

The large treasure ships used during the expeditions were purported to be 440 feet long and 180
feet wide (Dreyer, p. 102). Throughout his travels, Zheng Hebrought Chinese tea, porcelain and silk

Therefore, the original and main purpose of Zheng He s expeditions to foreign countries was
political and diplomatic. Emperor Yongle intended to awe the rulers of Southeast Asia and the
Indian Ocean into sending tribute to China (Dreyer, p. 27). Zheng He and his fleets needed to
establish Chinese presence and influences in those countries in order to enforce the tributary
system. Although China had no interest in imperial expansion through oceanic exploration like
the Europeans did, navy power was traditionally associated with the strength of a nation.
Therefore, the gigantic treasure ships, the significant scale of Zheng He s crew as well as the
Chinese goods he brought to the foreign countries all served the political needs to display wealth
and power of the Middle Kingdom. In order to understand the political motives behind Zheng He
s expedition, it is important to look into the historical background of Emperor Yongle s reign.
Yongle did not inherit the throne from his father Emperor Hongwu. Soon after his father s death,
Yongle, the Prince of Yan at that time, initiated a military rebellion and overthrew his nephew
Emperor Jianwen. Because he usurped the throne, Emperor Yongle had a huge urge to suppress
rumors and legitimate his rulership during his early years of reign. During the rebellion, Emperor
Jianwen disappeared and he was rumored to survive the palace fire and flee overseas. Historians
argued that one of the original goals of Zheng He s

28. Racial Racism In Gary Disher s The Divine Wind
Gary Disher s socially provocative Australian historical drama novel The Divine Wind (1998) set
in the Australian pearling town of Broome, provides a thought provoking and contemporary
outlook on racial prejudice, isolation and the loss of rights to adulthood during the onset of World
War11. Disher establishes this through a range of characters of differing ages and cultural
backgrounds, evoking a war devastated Australia and its effects on young adults forced to leave
their childhood behind. Written as a series of melancholic recollections, the seemingly simple
novel conveys the messages of a violent history, as it explores the complexity of the relationships
between racially diverse characters during the onset of WW11. The novel follows a young and
ambitious Hartley Penrose who faces challenges with discovering his maturity/identity, serving as a
transition from his past to his future. The Divine Wind utilizes the characters ideas, experiences,
beliefs, and values to explore the central themes, the racial prejudice between the white raceand
other ethnicities, the regional and urban divide and the growing up and loss of rights to adulthood.
The Divine Wind utilizes conventions and ideas from the drama genre to communicate these central
themes which are still prevalent in today s modern society.
The racist attitudes of the time are personified by the subordinate characters in the book.

Defense mechanism, in psychoanalysis, any of a variety of unconscious personality reactions
which the ego uses to protect the conscious mind from threatening feelings and perceptions.
Sigmund Freud first used defense as a psychoanalytic term (1894), but he did not break the notion
into categories, viewing it as a singular phenomenon of repression. His daughter, Anna Freud,
expanded on his theories in the 1930s, distinguishingsome of the major defense mechanisms
recognized today. Primary defense mechanisms include repression and denial, which serve to

The defenses can also give us insight into our own mental processes sometimes mental gymnastics
or contortions. All defenses involve distortions of reality; they are ways of feeling better by fooling
ourselves. If we realized these defenses in our lives, we might handle reality better. Almost all
adjustment books mention these defense mechanisms, even the writers who are arrogantly critical
of Freud. An excellent text about Sigmund and Anna Freud and the ego defenses is by Christopher
Monte (1980).
Repression: shoving thoughts and urges that are unacceptable or distressing into our unconscious.
This is what happens to the unacceptable urges of childhood the ego represses them. Taboo ideas,
like incest, would probably never get into consciousness or, if they got there, they d be quickly
repressed. Sometimes dreams or slips of the tongue or attempts at humor reveal our unconscious
motives. For example, if a teacher ridiculed you in class, you might dream he/she had a horrible
auto accident. Or, trying hard to say something nice to the teacher a few days later, you comment
after class, each of your lectures seems better than the next. Or, if you were unfortunate enough to
be asked to introduce your former teacher at a symposium and said, I d like to prevent huh I mean

31. The Theory Of The Entrepreneurship Process
The entrepreneurship process is continually changing due to the aspect of globalisation. It is in this
regard that the definitive term of the entrepreneurship process is becoming hard to derive. Various
individuals are strategically coming up with innovative ideas that have effects on the economies of
various countries. Entrepreneurs are known to create various types of ventures that range from
lifestyle organisations to rapid growth corporations (Morris, Schindehutte Allen, 2005, p. 730). The
ventures can either be regarded to be a profit making venture, or a business that is more focused on
promoting certain values in the society. The basis in which an individual takes up the
entrepreneurship task depends on the motivation of the individual and the motivation that they
have. There are various theories that try to define the twenty first century entrepreneur, and these
models have helped significantly in identifying the individuals who formed the basis of this
research. Many economists describe the concept of entrepreneurship differently; additionally, the
core characteristics of an entrepreneur vary with different definitions. Kuratko (2008, p. 20) defines
an entrepreneur as an individual who comes up with products, in the form of goods and services,
that are in demand by the public but are not being supplied. The traditional ways of defining an
entrepreneur is changing with the different ventures that people are undertaking in the society

The female characters within a novel many times fall into this archetype of The Mad Woman. In
different novels, there are a multitude of reasons as to why these women are driven mad, from
alcohol to societal expectations. Specifically, in Wide Sargasso Sea, Rhys explores this Mad
Woman archetype in relation to the loss of identity being the factor that drove the woman mad.
Wide Sargasso Seashows a continued story of a woman driven mad by society s expectations on
marriage and her own behavior. When she fails to meet these social norms, she is forced into
isolation as to punish and to cure her. However, the isolation only makes the madness worse. Thus,
the woman can no longer conform to society and shows that the harmful expectations of society
ultimately broke her until she killed herself. The story of the Mad Woman archetype begins with
Antoinette Mason when both her childhood and society negatively affect her. As the story
progresses, it becomes clear that Antoinette Mason s descent into madness is directly caused by her
loss of identity through alcohol, Mr. Rochester, and marriage expectations. Antoinette Mason

sent a gondola full of skiers tumbling to the ground. All three articles also confirmed that there were
twenty victims. The Mirror and Newsweek gave more detail about this aspect. The Mirror stated
that the victims were nine women, 10 men and one child. Newsweek also stated that the tourists

40. The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis
In The Great Divorce, C.S. Lewis provides an allegorical description of a dreamers journey from
hell to heaven. The Narrator of the book takes a journey on a bus from the grey town, hell, to
just outside of heaven. While he is making this trip from the grey town to heaven, he converses
with some of his fellow travelers. These travelers are all different, yet all have the mindset of not
being able to leave the darkness of the grey town and go to the joy that is heaven. Through his talent
in story telling and writing, C.S. Lewis provides many thoughts and questions to be discussed and
pondered upon. He leaves ideas open for interpretation through allegorical writing, providing room
for the reader to be brought into the story through thought. He gives the reader a thought of what
Heaven and hellare like, and how they relate to each other; along with images of how God works
in the world and afterlife, and what is waiting for us after we die through the images of the
afterlife. The opening of the book brings the reader into the story through the eyes of the
narrator. It is as if the reader is the narrator and is going through the grey town himself. We see
the book and the images of heaven and hell by the way that the narrator experiences and describes
it. This is a great way to go about writing this story, because it has a more intimate connection
between the reader and the story. The narrator goes around the grey town and into the bus talking to
all the characters he sees.

41. New Sound Equipment During The Film Industry
Once the Vitaphone staked its claim in the film industry the research and application of new sound
equipment began to grow rapidly. First moving to even louder speakers for the audience to enjoy
the music even more. Then moving to stereo speakers having different sounds coming from
different speakers. Then moving to surround sound where the audience is engulfed in musicand
sound effects from all around them. Finally to our current technology of IMAX sound adding even
more speakers and pushing sound to the point of shaking the seats in the theaters. One of the most
important contributions that the talkies provided was the technique of sound mixing. Going back
to the rituals of the Sumerians and through Greek and Roman period through classical and romantic
opera the instrumentalist would either have to play soft or not at all when there was singing or
talking because the instruments would drown out the voices. Now with sound mixing that is not
the case. They can always raise the voice and lower the instrumental music from machines instead
of the singers trying to sing over the orchestra. A perfect example of this explanation was given by
one of the greatest filmmusic composers of his time Bernard Herrmann, For by separately recording
music and sound and voice, we are able to mix them together at the proper volume. The speaking
voice and the music can achieve a perfect balance. That is the greatest contribution of the genuine
sound film . Without this invention the

42. Nuclear Essay
The UK civil nuclear power industry initially started in 1946 followed by the establishment of one
of the world s first nuclear power plant in 1956 [23 24]. This commercial scale reactor was built in
southwest Scotland and given a name MAGNOX due to the fuel cladding (magnesium non
oxidising alloy) used to contain the fuels. The MAGNOX reactor uses natural uraniummetal fuel to
generate thermal energy while using graphite bricks to moderate the fast moving neutrons within
the core. Two types of graphite bricks are used in MAGNOX design; these are Pile Grade A (PGA)
and Pile Grade B (PGB). The former is used as a neutron moderator due to its high density and
lower neutron absorption, whereas the latter is mostly used as a reflector [23].... Show more content

Currently, there are fifteen operating reactors in the UK with a combined total output around 8883
MWe, and one under construction [27]. Fourteen of the fifteen operating reactors are AGRs and
located at seven different power stations, making the AGRs the most dominant nuclear reactors in
the UK. The remaining two reactors (including the one under construction) are based on PWR
design.
AGRs are the second generation of the UK nuclear power plants, and initially designed to improve
the steam cycle efficiency of the early reactor design (MAGNOX). This type of reactors exists
only in the UK and operated by EDF Energy (formerly British Energy). Since the AGRs first
operation in 1976 they have become the UK s most dominant reactor after showing an increased
economic benefits and steam cycle efficiency approximately 42% compared with MAGNOX
reactor, which has approximately 31% efficiency [25]. AGRs are capable of producing peak fuel
temperature approximately 800 В°C and the coolant gas temperature approximately 650 В°C at
40 bars. The steam generated by the AGRs can reach up to 540 В°C at 165 bar, which is capable of
driving the standard 660 MW turbines.

43. Clinical Signs Of Bvdv Infection
Laboratory diagnosis The clinical signs of BVDV infection are highly variable and there are
many factors that affect severity of infection like viral strain, age of affected animals, immune
status, reproductive stage and mixed infection. Therefore, diagnosis based on history, clinical
signs and postmortem examination should be considered only as preliminary diagnosis. The
accurate and confirmatory diagnosis of BVDV infection depends only on laboratory diagnosis. 1
Virus isolation BVDV isolation in cell culture, followed by identification, is considered as the
most reliable method for diagnosis. Many different clinical samples are suitable for BVDV
isolation during the viremia stage as nasal discharges, peripheral blood leukocytes, serum, semen,
aborted fetuses and feces. However, presence of maternal antibodies in serum and buffy coat
samples from newly born animals may neutralize the virus and decrease the sensitivity of virus
isolation. Virus isolation methods are labor intensive and may take several weeks. Furthermore,
virus isolation cannot differentiate between PI animals and transiently infected animals. The FBS
used as supplement for propagation of cell lines should be tested for BVDV contamination before
usage to avoid false positive results. Dubovi et al. 2013 stated that there are many factors that may
affect the success in BVDV isolation and discussed the misconception that BVDV isolation is the
gold standard for diagnosis. Some of those factors are variation

44. The Development Of New Zealand
New Zealand is a country which for the most part is made up of hills and mountains area. These
hilly and mountainous natures cover about 18 million hectares in land. This means that about
69% of the country land has slopes greater than 12В°, and got the country to be nicknamed the
hill country . This 69% hilly land is further divided into two based on the sloppiness of the land.
The land with slope between 12 28В° is called hill land ; thus, the land whose slope exceeds 28В°
is themed steepland (DSIR 1980). The diversity in New Zealands hill country physical regimes
creates ranges of slope and altitude, coupled with a extensive latitudinal range, a mid oceanic
setting surrounding the subtropical with cooling moderate climates, and complex geologic and
tectonic regimes. As a consequence of this diversity, the productive potential of New Zealand s hill
country, and its response to climatic events, created the use of sustainable land us act to be used
across the country.
Out of these 18 million hectares, 6.3 million hectares in the North Island comprises of majorly
soft rock and crushed soft rock terrain (Mclvor, Douglas, Dymond, Eyles and Marden. 2011).
About 23% of the 18 million is made up of volcanic ash and loess mantled terrain comprises

The above question invited the knowledge question: what are the fundamental causes for
disagreements within a discipline? I have chosen history and mathematics as my areas of
knowledge to investigate the causes of disagreement referring to various ways of knowing to prove
my claim. I think that there are several causes why there are disagreements within a discipline, one
of the main reasons being emotion. Emotion is a strong feeling such as joy or anger, it can also be
an instinctive feeling distinguished from reasoning or knowledge. Knowledge is made up of
facts, information and skills a person has acquired through experience or education. Reasoning is
an explanation or justification; we use it whenever we make a decision. Reasoning is very closely
linked to emotion as our past experiences can influence the decisions we make. I have chosen to...

To answer the question: given access to the same facts how is it possible that there can be
disagreement between experts in a discipline , it is very possible that there can be disagreements
between experts in a discipline because even though normally a fact is a fact which is the truth
however sometimes facts allow for your own interpretation which causes disagreements. Emotion is
the biggest cause of disagreement as emotions can subconsciously affect you which means that
without you knowing it your opinion gets changed. Reasoning can also cause disagreements
because experts might have different interpretations however the fact will still be the same. In
mathematics disagreements are not accepted, as there is no interpretation that can be made on
other the other hand, in history disagreements are more common, because there is some room for
interpretation however, historians try to be as objective as they can so that the information we read

46. The Theory Of Social Enterprise
When I first start on this module, I feel really odd about what exactly a social enterprise is. In our
daily life, there are tens of thousands businesses among us, but I have never thought about what
makes those business exits, what aims they are trying to achieve and what kind of business they
are. When thinking of social enterprise, I feel interested in how they run the businessin a long term
if it is not profit driven, and how they maintain the daily operation with perhaps very little social
capital investment. My understanding of this module built upon everyday readings, seminar
preparations and workshops, as well as group discussions, Gregson Centre s visit and learning
packs of various social concepts from different groups day by day.
What gave me the deep impressions at first is the three system of economy model proposed by
Pearce (2003). The diagram is totally new to me but it is not that hard to understand. The
diagram divides the economy into three systems and each of which can be seen to be based on
deferent principles and values. Each system is about a different way of managing the economy.
The first system can be referred to as the private sector, it is profit driven and their principle is to
maximize returns for private shareholders. The first system operates through the free marketplace,
meeting needs through the production of goods and the provision of services by companies. The
second system can be conventionally referred to as the public sector. It is

47. Examples Of Negligence In Sports
Upon being injured in his first rugby game, Jim Smith decided to sue his university for negligence.
He believed that the school did not provide him with proper medical attention upon suffering a
concussion during his game. Negligence can be defined as failing to do something that a
reasonable, prudent, and up to date person would have done under the same/similar conditions or
doing something that a reasonable, prudent and up to date person would not have done (Dougherty,
Goldberger, Carpenter, 2007, p. 187). Despite these acts being unintentional, one can seek
compensation from the courts under tort law. For a tort lawsuit to be successful, it must have all

Waivers are legally binding contracts which states that the coach or whoever else is in charge is
not liable for any injuries. These hold up as defense in court, unless it is applied to gross
negligence. Jim s case files under gross negligence since the school made a conscious and
voluntary disregard of the need to use reasonable care, which is likely to cause foreseeable grave
injury or harm to persons, ( gross negligence, 2008). The University made the conscious decision to
not make sure that there was medical assistance at the rugby game, knowing that some type of
injury was bound to occur. Despite the school committing gross negligence, the school still has the
defense of assumption of risk. It means that an individual recognizes that an activity comes with
certain inherent risks. Inherent risks are risks that cannot be eliminated without fundamentally
altering the very nature of the activity (Dougherty et al., 2007, p. 190). Rugby by nature is a
violent contact sport, where the players have almost no padding to protect them. The only way to
remove some of the risk of it would change the sport entirely. Given that Jim voluntarily decided to
participate, was aware of the nature of the sport what risks went along with it, and that his injury
possibly could have come from the inherent risk not the negligence, the

1950 s Culture Exposed in The Catcher in the Rye
J.D. Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye is a remarkable book that gives readers a unique and
perhaps gloomy perspective of the 1950 s through Holden Caulfield, a cynical and peculiar teenager.
Through The Catcher in the Rye Salinger describes important aspects of the 1950 s. Salinger
emphasizes several key characteristics of the 50 s and criticizes them through Holden. In addition,
Holden Caulfield is a very interesting character with several traits that put him at odds with society.
Holden attacks various weaknesses in the 50 s society. He criticizes nearly everything that he
observes, and refuses to pull punches. Often Holden uses his brilliant talent of ... Show more content

When Holden takes a cab to Ernie s in Greenwich Village he has a conversation with the cab driver,
Horwitz. Salinger demonstrates the paranoia of the 50 s by emphasizing how angry Horwitz is that
Holden is asking him so many questions.
Throughout The Catcher in the Rye Holden complains that the people around him are all phony.
This view probably stems from the extensive trend of conformity that infected the 1950 s. The
reader can understand Holden s reason for hating these phonies. Holden describes any person
that embraces the popular culture as a phony and disdains them for it. This is clear when Holden
goes to see The Lunts with Sally Hayes and is absolutely disgusted by the people around him.
When Holden meets Sally s acquaintance, George, he immediately recognizes him as a phony,
strictly ivy league. Big deal. (p.127) Holden cannot stand people who do not think for themselves.
Although Salinger never states his opinion directly, one can assume by Holden s statements that
Salinger was also critical of the 50 s theme of conformity, or at least aware of it.
Holden meets a handful of people in his adventure that he categorizes as pure and sincere. These
people include his love, Jane Gallagher, his sister, Phoebe, and two nuns that he meets on the
street. Holden recognizes that during the 1950 s there were very few people who were true to
themselves. Holden never addresses this conformity as a unique

Do you have what it takes to become a secret service agents? What are the requirements to
become a secret service agent? What are different types of agencies that an agent could work for?
Well a secret service is an agent that protects and carry executive orders from their commanders to
carry on their missions. The U.S Secret Service has two major areas they are required to do. They
are to prevent financial crimes and protection who harms or threat our homeland which is the
United Statesof America. They have missions that take place all over the world. Agents have
different agencies they could work for like the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration). The DEA
which is the (Drug Enforcement Administration) was created by Richard Nixon through an
Executive order in 1978. When the DEA was first created it had about 1,740 secret agents and a
budget less than $75 million. Now in present time the agency now has about 5,000 agents and a
budget that had increase to $2 million.

53. A New Form Of Imperialism
During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the United States pursued an aggressive
policy of expansionism, extending its political and economic influence around the globe. Reasons
for this were the strong desire for military strength, the thirst for new markets in order to stimulate
the economy and trade, and the core belief in cultural superiority (QUOTE). During that time
United Statesbecame an expansionist nation, so by late nineteenth century America s thrust into
Imperialismhad already begun. A new form of imperialism to an extent, the policy still involved
extending its country authority and control over foreign countries as a medium of obtaining and
maintaining an empire. Imperialism usually involves a stronger nation (emerging world power
U.S.) extended control over a weaker nation. But different from the previous European empires of
the colonialist time, which were formal administrative systems founded on social, economic and
political control, the American Empire was in one way or another a voluntary association,
established in improving international mass market. United States imperialism is mainly prevalent
in Latin America, which the Spanish American War of 1898, marks the beginning of. The war
marked the emergence of the United States as an externally focused world power. Post war the
United States was left with a commercial and physical empire and a strong momentum for
American nation building activities. This era which marks the new
