Certificates and Microcredentials • Microcredentials: • May require1-3 short classes • Classes are less expensive. • Classes teach skills, strategies, or self-improvement primarily for career growth (enhanced PD) • Certificates: • Specialized technology certificates may require as many as 21 hours of coursework • Other certificates (i.e. Cultural Inclusiveness, Leadership and Management, Agile Software design, etc.) could require as few as 12-15 hours of cousework. • Geared toward immediate career advancement.

Open Educational Resources A movement that: • May or may not require a registration or login to access resources • Allows scholars/others to create and share textbooks openly via Creative Commons Licensure • Rarely engages in using editors or soliciting feedback • Can be a springboard for publication • Can be a useful and money saving tool • Can be highly disappointing and a waste of learner time

Open Education Pedagogy Requires no registration or login Organized around a universally problematic concept Focuses on teaching and learning in the Open, with the goal of improving both Welcomes suggestions and models for improvement Expects participant contribution to the “goal”, including creation of curated lists, video, blogs, twitter chats, vlogs, etc. Accountability to the group and to personal group is managed by the learner (dropping in and dropping out).

Open Research • Communities are invited to be included • Twitter • Email list • Professional organizations • New Open Organizations • Research is shared in an open forum and commenting is turned on • Google Drive • Dropbox • Evernote • The community engages in feedback and discussion. • Drop-in drop-out culture • Strengthens Trustworthiness • Provides deep analysis through reflective discussion
