Argument Against Trump
There should be no bitterness or hate where the sole thought is the welfare of the United States of
America. No man can occupy the office of President without realizing that he is President of all the
people ― Franklin D. Roosevelt (Goodreads). Franklin Roosevelt declares here that the President of
the United States should display extreme professionalism as a result of how they are elected to
represent and serve the citizens of America. Then, it can be implied from this quote that the president
should not overwhelmingly voice his own opinion, especially by being negative and targeting others.
Meaning, the president should put the interests of the people before his own wants or opinions. How
can the president achieve this in the age ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her article, Kang discusses the claim that Trump s phone creates a serious national security concern.
Primarily, his Android phone is very outdated and possibly unsecure. This means that his phone could
easily be hacked, exposing himself and the nation to threats, depending on what information is on his
phone (Kang par. 7). Also, if his phone is able to be hacked, there may be sensitive information that
could be leaked to the world, which could cause major issues with national security. Kang also makes
a main point about his phone being hacked through its internet connection, Twitter requires a
connection to the internet, which exposes the device to security vulnerabilities (Kang par. 6). This
means that his phone could easily be hacked through wireless internet connection. However, Toosi
attacks the topic from a different angle, analyzing how other countries could manipulate Trump s
actions as a result of his tweets. Toosi explains how Twitter has shown us the way that Trump works,
We re beginning to see what excites him, what angers him, what sets him off. We ve never had this
ability to read so much on what a president is thinking (Toosi par. 4). Other countries could easily
analyze what Trump says to provoke him into saying extremely unpresidential things about another
country through Twitter. They could do this by saying or doing certain things

I Will Take A Sony Dream Machine Model Icf Cs15ip Alarm Clock
Waking up in the morning is a difficult task for some people, whereas for others waking up may seem
like a natural routine. Well for those people who have a hard time waking up or just wanting to get up
at a specific time there was a device invented called the alarm clock. This device was originally
invented by ancient Greek philosophers around 250 B.C. and over the years mechanical alarm clocks
were invented by Levi Hutchins in 1787 (History of Clocks. (n.d.). Retrieved November 6, 2014.),
then came radio alarm clocks invented by James Reynolds (The History of Alarm Clocks
{INFOGRAPHIC}. (n.d.). Retrieved November 6, 2014.), and finally the modern alarm clocks with
IPhone or IPod docking bays. My objective is to write a proposal for option one on the final project, in
which I will take a Sony Dream Machine model ICF CS15iP alarm clock and discuss my experience
using and interacting with the device. Also I will examine how other people interact and review their
experience in using the Dream Machine. The methods I plan on using to accomplish this project will
be to explain in detail the ways I interact with the device and go over my experience with it too. The
first and second part of the project will be to gather information from various sources such as,
manufacturer s manual, Sony s website, and web sites that contains reviews from people that have
used or that is still using the Dream Machine. After, reading the reviews I will categorize them into

Quick Death in The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber...
Quick Death in The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber
Ernest Hemingway created a masterpiece of mystery in his story The Short Happy Life of Francis
Macomber . The mystery does not reveal itself to the reader until the end of the story, yet it leaves a
lot to the imagination. At the end of the story Margaret Macomber kills her husband by accident, in
order to save him from being mauled by a large Buffalo while on a safari in Africa. The mystery is
whether or not this killing was truly accidental, or intentional. If it was to be considered intentional,
there would certainly have to be evidence in the story suggesting such, with a clear motive as well.
What makes this mystery unique is that Hemingway gives the reader numerous ... Show more content

Robert Wilson seems to be right in his descriptions of the couple,
and their relationship throughout the story. If this is true, and
none of his presumptions about the couple are false, then he gains
more credibility towards the end of the story. It is at this point
that he becomes the advocate of Margot actions, despite the fact
that they were intentional. It is Wilson that gives the reader the
best description of the relationship between Francis and his wife.
It is his insight into Margot, however, that is the most detailed,
and which seems to suggest that she might be capable of such an
act.
From this astute analysis of the two, Wilson shows the reader
several very important things. One is the fact, although somewhat
machiavellian, that over her husband. Another observation that I
somewhat important is the This is the cruelty that Wilson observes
in the passage above. This, as she would soon see, was not the
case.
One of the most important passages in the story occurs in the
moments just before Francis and Robert Wilson go into the bush
after the buffalo. After Margot fires the fatal shot, further
evidence is given by Robert Wilson that supports the assertion
that the killing was intentional Hemingway 1411). Wilson, who
seems to be accurate in his assessment of the relationship, seems
a credible witness to the

A Report On Japanese Tea
As Japanese Tea Ceremony is an important part of Japanese food and culture, drinking tea was
initially popular in China since the fourth century. From history, tea plants did not grow in Japan
initially until the first seeds were brought from China during the Tang Dynasty (China 618 907).
During this period, the two countries were at their prime as they were experiencing growing
relationships and cultural exchanges between each other. In China, tea was esteemed for its medicinal
value and represented an elegant drink. According to legend, the history of tea in Japan was created
1,300 years ago by a Buddhist monk, named Bodhidharma. Uniquely, the story is that he would have a
daily routine of meditating for nine years just by staring at the wall of a cave. In his own personal
journey, he battled his occasional drowsiness where he has to drink tea to ease the pain. Eventually, he
came up with the idea of cutting off his eyelids, so his eyes would not close. Supposedly, on the place
where he placed his severed eyelids, the first tea bushes appeared. From this legend, it was reported
that this story is why the tea ceremony is so important to Zen Buddhism and Japanese culture as he
was an important role model. (Hays, 2013)
Initially, tea started as a powdered tea which were tea leaves that are steamed, dried, and then crushed
into powder. In addition, the tea developed the split bamboo whisk that was to be stirred into the hot
water. Throughout time, China replaced the powdered

Black Friday Consumerism Minus Civilization Analysis
Insane in the Membrane: Rhetorical Strategies in Leonard s Black Friday: Consumerism Minus
Civilization
As a country, America has forced the holidays to become a marketing technique. Valentine s Day,
Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas seem like just another way for companies to make even
more money than before. In the essay, Black Friday: Consumerism Minus Civilization by Andrew
Leonard published on wwnorton.com/write/fieldguidelinks, he argues the point that Black Friday and
Black Friday advertisements are taking away from Thanksgiving. Leonard s argument was somewhat
effective. He may have influenced American shoppers to focus less on the deals of black friday and to

That s insanity. He is saying things that make people think about their feelings. Feelings are one of the
best things to use when trying to convince people to believe something. With this specific quote he is
trying to show people just how drawn in they are. They waiting in line outside on a holiday just to
save a little bit of money, while on their cellular phones. He then declares these acts as insanity, which
makes the reader question themself on their sanity. Most of the article speaks on the sanity of people
within the advertisements, the main one being The Crazy Target Lady. In his essay he says, The Crazy
Target Lady is not a joke. Watch her cannibalize her gingerbread man, or strategize her reverse
psychology techniques, or show off her shopping utility belt: You cannot avoid the conclusion that a)
she is not a healthy woman, and b) she is America. She might be a lunatic, but it s culturally approved

Essay on Revenge In Two Literary Works
Revenge as a theme is cleverly built upon throughout Hamlet; with it being the driving force behind
three of the key characters in the play. Revenge is a frighteningly vicious emotion, which causes
people to act blindly and without reason. In Poe s, The Cask of Amontillado , Montresor enacts
revenge for reasons unknown. Hamlet in contrast, has all the motive in the world to complete his task;
yet he constantly hesitates. The text reveals that the need for revenge creates a stranglehold on the
genuine emotions, thoughts, and actions of three characters: Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, Laertes; son
of Polonius, and Fortinbras; Prince of Norway. This hold makes the characters act beyond their
standard ethical positions and makes them helpless to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is obstructed from his genuine rational moral view and if he were morally coherent, he would have
seen that taking such drastic action removes himself from his genuine thoughts. In The Cask , the
perspective we are given on the story is limited; which allows for an open interpretation of what his
true motives for revenge are. As Baraban states Montresor elaborates a sophisticated philosophy of
revenge: I must not only punish, but punish with impunity (48) presenting the reader with a vibrant
view of what he intends to do. The question one begs is, for what reason? Most readers would finish
this story and assert that mentally, Montresor is insane. As Baraban states, Poe s intriguing silence
about the nature of the insult that made Montresor murder Fortunato has given rise to explanations of
Montresor s deed through insanity. Richard M. Fletcher, for example, maintains that Montresor s
actions are irrational and that therefore he is mad. (50) Montresor states at the opening of the story,
you,who so well know the nature of my soul ( are words likely said on his death bed to his confessor;
being that he committed this deed fifty years prior, it would make sense that he is finally coming
clean. Moreover, since he is commenting on the nature of his soul, it is plausible to assume that
Montresor has been deemed crazy

Types of spatial metadata
Spatial information is necessary to make sound decisions at the local, regional and global levels.
Therefore, the amount of spatial datasets being created and exchanged between organisations or

Manual Labour Movement Essay
The independent educational action of 1826 through 1876 emphasized the rise of the manual labor
movement and mechanics institutes. The contributions of several educational leaders and their
importance to the teaching field and vocational education are discussed. Other represented
achievements from the Morrill Act, the Hampton Institute, and the Kalamazoo Case are discussed and
their significance in the history of vocational education.
The Manual Labor Movement
During the early 1800 s, different schools served different functions. Mechanic s Institutes combined
practice with the study of science. Lyceums attended to cultural as well as educational needs and
aroused interest in agricultural and industrial education. The manual labor movement attempted to
meet the needs of the farmer, mechanic, vocational education, and a way of satisfying a practical need
of a population. In addition, Manual Labor Academies included academic studies as well as time
working in a shop. The Education committee felt this combination of studies and labor contributed to
the development of a better citizen. The combination of labor and education created a strong base for
vocational education. Although the manual labor movement lost momentum by the time of the Civil
War, it had set in motion significant developments concerning education of women, agricultural ...

Significance Of Boston Tea Party
Boston Tea Party was a major event in American history because this act of American colonial
disobedience served as a protest against taxation. British Parliament adjusted import duties with the
passage of the Tea Act on May 10, 1773. The Tea Act granted the British East India Company Tea a
monopoly on tea sales in the American colonies. Meetings were held and decisions were made. Taxes
has been raised so much and so many people did not like that. People did not like the idea of wasting
money and paying taxes for tea. As of why the parliament didn t get much respect. Tea crates were
being sent in and out. While this was happening all the colonists that were paying taxes, were also
paying for most shipments and for the tea to be going to the parliament. For them to be enjoying the
tea while the colonists were paying for it and the expenses were so high and the tea in stores were so
high as well because it was so popular. The Parliament became selfish because once they sold the tea
in stores it went to them as well and so no one bought it. Colonists had been complaining about the
taxes and mini acts of fighting had happened and people were not happy. People had been making

Many historians argue about the result of the reconstruction. By reading the sources I concluded that

Comparison of Li Po and Tu Fu s Poetry Essays
Comparison of Li Po and Tu Fu s Poetry During the Tang Dynasty, Li Po and Tu Fu have reigned the
literary world with their poetry. Their writing techniques and themes in their poetry allow them to
stand out amongst other poets at the time. With the unique aspects and images these poets write about,
they distinguish the similarities between themselves and contain different intensities in their poetry.
While Li Po has a more relaxed tone to his poetry, Tu Fu deals with the serious aspects of life such as
war, poverty, and suffering. Li Po s writing style is conventional and contains no new innovations.

Analysis Of The Book Joyas Voladoras By Published...
In the book Joyas Voladoras by published editor Brain Doyle, Doyle begins talking about humming
birds. The heart of a humming bird, and its physical aspects. Doyle then elaborates on the title that it
translates to flying jewels, which the first explorers named them. Doyle is talking about life, the center
of all living things life, the heart and the different aspects of the heart. The memory that can be stored
there, the heartbeats, the size and even how a heart can be broken. Doyle presents his ideas differently
but causes the reader to connect emotionally, factually, and fairly personally.
Doyle takes a different approach on this essay for the beginning, he makes a move on the reader.
Doyle provides the reader with the assumption that the short essay will cover hummingbirds. Leading
to the effect of grabbing the attention of different types of readers, ones who are interested in
humming birds or readers who know little and are just curious. Doyle states consider the hummingbird
for a long moment (147). Doyle s presentation of the beginning of his essay now affected specific
readers, it pulled in readers from an animal interest. Providing readers with the assumption that while
reading this essay they should consider the hummingbird, and causes them to imagine a hummingbird
for a moment. This move works in the text because the reader s focus is pin pointed to a specific topic
from the beginning, and from that intro Doyle explains in later sentences facts about the

Comparing Cimabue Enthroned Madonna And Child
In the early 13th century two paintings came to shape the view of the Christian faith and put their
stamp on history by ushering in two different styles of the same idea. Cimabue Enthroned Madonna
and Giotto Enthroned Madonna became iconic images that have stood the test of time. At a glance
they appear to be same but with a closer look very distinct differences are apparent and unmistakable.
The Cimabue Enthroned Madonna and child was painted around 1285 A.D. for the church of Santa
Trinita in Florence. The painting was massive measuring over twelve feet high and seven feet wide.
The painting is vivid and vibrant red, blue, and the gold color over powers the viewer and shades them

The most obvious difference is the way the painter arranged the images in the space of the painting.
Cimabue is one dimensional with no real floor, as represented by the angels standing taller than each
other with no elevated surface to speak of; as where Giotto has a natural incline to the painting and the
angels are kneeling on a solid floor. Cimabue painting all angels were mirror images of each other and
none look at the baby Jesus, and in contrast Giotto all angels have different faces, robes and hair styles
and all eyes are affixed on the baby Jesus. Jesus is close to the same with some stylistic differences in
appearance. One Jesus is more of a mini man and the other a baby. Giotto appeared to take a lot more

Contributions Of George Washington
George Washington (1789 1797) George Washington was born on February 22, 1732 to Augustine and
Mary Ball Washington in Pope s Creek, Virginia. Even though he was born in Pope s Creek,
Washington actually spent most of youth at a plantation called the Ferry Farm near Fredericksburg.
There, he grew up with his 6 brothers and 3 sisters. Three of his brothers were his half brothers and
one of sisters was his half sister from his father s first marriage. Washington was educated and went
schools near him. He was not able to afford the luxuries of private tutors and studying abroad because
his father died when he was 11. His formal education ended when he was 15. In 1959, he married
Martha Washington who he stayed until he died without any children of his own. Before becoming
president, Washington was a county surveyor as well as General in a soldier. He died on December 14,
1799 in Mount Vernon, Virginia.
On June 19, 1775, Washington was named Commander in Chief of the Continental Army by the

These parents are also more likely to not question their child s educational program, as they may
interpret it as challenging the teacher s authority and professionalism. This lack of understanding can

parents and educators results in miscommunication and deficit thinking. Since many parents of EBs do

Persuasive Essay On Why We Dream
In my paper I will ask exactly what it is to dream and give my best explanation based on what others
have learned and I have gathered on the subject. Even though scientists may not have many ways of
researching how and why we dream today with our current technology we can however talk to the
people who dream and study brain activity. In this paper I will address the research I have conducted
on why we dream. As of right now scientists are all puzzled by this question. Partly because the
technology we need in order to pinpoint a specific answer isn t developed at the current moment.
However, through psychological and behavioral research we can come to means with several theories
as to why we do dream. Whether it is the unconscious desires we get to experience at night or the
molded slice of pizza we had for dinner before we went to bed. Many of the scientist that are currently
working on this dilemma have asked some of the same questions. Like: what is dreaming, how does
dreaming work, what causes bad dreams or nightmares, and how can we conduct research to find out?
As of right now no one knows and there isn t an easy answer. However I can explain the stages of
sleep and how they affect us and when we dream. Due to the lack of technology today no answer will
come easy. However with enough persistence we may be able to establish a pattern and put meaning
to them. Researchers working with neurologists have already started taking dreams and converting

The Pros And Cons Of The Anti-War Movement
Thus in conclusion, the drafting of young American men by the American government and the
subsequent reaction of draft protests, added to the chaotic situation the Policy makers were facing due

power and ability to truly gain significant public support and be taken seriously. Such limitations will

By 1965 together with the staging of massive demonstrations, the teach in wave and draft protests by
students, the anti war movement in universities continued to evidence the war as a major political
issue and kept it in national spotlight (Hall 127). Although it might not have seemed apparent at the
time of the protests, the sustained activism against the war, maintained the vast pressure on the
administrations to bring the conflict to a close ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Historians argue the diversity of the movement and the tactics used were the major strengths the
movement had. Hall states that thanks to the large variety of activities (stated in the previous section)
and its diversity, the movement with its fluidity could sustain the pressure put on the Policy makers
(Hall 119). Jones additionally argues, that with the spread of the movement to other groups in society
beyond Universities, it became more effective producing a cumulative effect that sapped resistance
power of the policy makers (Jeffrey Jones 3, 223). The strengths Hall and Jones refer to however
address the entire movement as a whole, saying that the co operation of Student groups with many
different activist groups such as civil rights groups, feminist groups was what gave it

Touching Spirit Bear Character Analysis
Ben Mikaelsen s self realization novel Touching Spirit Bear is about a boy named Cole. Cole is a 15
year old, whom others see as angry and evil. They do not understand Cole is only using his anger in
the wrong way. The only people who understand Cole are two men, Garvey and Edwin. They
recognize the pain of having anger. Cole is banished to a remote island in Alaska after he attacks a boy
named Peter sending him to the hospital. Cole changes on the island helping himself and others along
his quest to self realization. A lesson Cole learns throughout the story is anger never leaves, but it
shapes one for the good or the bad; it is all a choice.
As the novel begins, Cole is bullying Peter, so Peter tells the school to get Cole in trouble. Instead of
apologizing, Cole becomes enraged and he, warned the skinny red haired boy, giving him a shove. He
laughed when he saw the fear in Peter s eyes... he attacked him and started hitting him hard in the face
with his bare fists (7). This line from the novel represents using anger in a horrid and gruesome
manner and Cole felt no remorse. Therefore, this segment of the book shows Cole before his
transformations and before he could control his anger. This demonstrates the choices Cole makes
before he realizes anger is a choice and he can control it. Cole s anger is like a wildfire and it spreads
to Peter. Peter now feels sheer hatred and anger towards Cole. The anger Cole ... Show more content

Ficer Corps And The Noncommissioned Officer
Abstract The officer corps and the noncommissioned officer corps in the Army go all the back to
before the founding fathers formed the country. Both of these corps have adapted and changed
according to wars and conflicts the nation has participated. The success of the Army is dependent on
the ability of officers and noncommissioned officers to work together. Training, education and
mentorship lead to officers and noncommissioned officer serving as the cornerstone of the Army.
Establishing roles and responsibilities It is important to understand the roles that officers and non
commissioned officers hold in the Army. Without this understanding, officers and non commissioned
officers become stranded and confused. The Army has continuously updated regulations, field
manuals, and other doctrine to keep up with the ever changing operational environment the Army
operates in. Army Doctrine Publication (ADP) 6 22 and Army Doctrine Reference Publication
(ADRP) 6 22 clearly establish the roles of the officer and the non commissioned officer. Additional
Army doctrine provides for other miscellaneous tasks or responsibilities that officers and non
commissioned officers either share or work together to accomplish. A simple example is Training
Circular (TC) 3 21, Drill and Ceremony. The non commissioned officer has the bulk of the
responsibility to conduct but the officer does have a role as the commander of troops. Although Drill
and Ceremony not does specifically address a

What Was The Second Industrial Revolution
The Second Industrial Revolution occurred in Europe towards the end of the 19th century around
1871. This was a moment in time when new products were created. This new products that were
invented revolutionize factories and people s lives (Spielvogel 691). The creation of these products
allowed workers to manufacture different products at faster speeds. It also created new job
opportunities for the people and a growth of machinery was seen. One of the first products that was
created during this time was the replacement of steel for iron (Spielvogel 691). These new ways of
molding the steel allowed for easier and faster construction of new and different devices. Inventions
such as railways, ships, military weapons and equipment were produced

E-Marketing Strategies at Kudler Foods
Executive Summary
There are several benefits of relying on e marketing strategies at Kudler Foods to better attract, sell
and serve customers over time. The intent of this executive summary is to evaluate them from the
standpoint of collecting primary and secondary customer data. In addition the challenges of collecting
data through the Internet is also assessment, in addition to expected early feedback from blogs or
profiles including those on social media. Finally a cost benefit analysis is provided. Web 2.0 serves as
the foundation of much of the social media and e marketing platforms being developed today.
Originally defined in 2006, the Web 2.0 design objectives have influenced every social network,
application and e marketing application since (Skiera, Eckert, Hinz, 2010). To see the Web 2.0 Meme
map which shows the key design criterion and objectives of this network, see the Appendix of this
analysis. One of the most influential aspects of this Meme Map is the fact that the Web is now the
operating system or platform and users own the data, participating freely and sharing it quickly acorns
many different workflows and strategies (O Reilly, 2006). The Web 2.0 design criterion and objectives
continued to have a major impact on how Kudler Foods will be able to capture primary and secondary
customer data. For an analysis of e marketing platforms based on Web 2.0 technologies see Appendix
B of this document. The potential exists to gain much greater insights and

Freedom Writers Movie Analysis
The movie, Freedom Writers, created in 2007, and directed by Richard LaGravenese, is an exceptional
movie about a class at Woodrow Wilson High School that was involved in gang violence in the early
90 s. The class s teacher, Erin Gruwell, changes their lives and shows them that life is not all about
gangs. Additionally, she has her class write in journals that later on get published into a book; the class
titles the book, Freedom Writers. Throughout the film, LaGravenese does a superb job of displaying
the students stories in a way that plays with one s emotions. Furthermore, LaGravenese also delineates
Gruwell s ability to change the students lives. Overall, this is an excellent movie because it shows how
a single person can make a difference, and how people can overcome the most horrific hardships. The
film is set in Long Beach, California, in the early 90 s, and is focused on Erin Gruwell, a new english
teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School. Erin was excited to teach, however her first day did not go
as well as she hoped. The students in her class are extremely rowdy and apathetic towards learning. As
the days go on, Erin tries different ways to try to relate to the kids to teach them. Nevertheless, the
kids were still unwilling to learn because they had no respect towards Erin. Eventually, Erin learns
that the kids do not even know what the Holocaust is. Additionally, Erin also purchases journals for
her students; she wants her students to write their own personal experiences in them, and gives her
students the option to let her read them. Most of them decided to do so. When Erin reads the journals
she learns about the horrific tragedies a lot of the students have had to face. This makes Erin more
passionate about her job, and makes her want to teach her students even more, so she decides to take
them on a field trip to a Holocaust museum. The field trip had a huge impact on the students, and
made them more driven to learn. As the year progresses, the students have more respect for Erin. Erin
has her students read the diary of Anne Frank; the students were so moved by the novel that they
fundraise to get the woman who housed Anne Frank, Miep Gies, speak at the school. After sometime,
Erin has her

Case A Retail Dry Cleaning Shop
A retail dry cleaning store cleans two piece suits for $12 each. Its patrons are individual walk ins.
There are several similar dry cleaners in the city and this firm offers no special services. The firm can
clean up to 1,000 suits per week. It has fixed costs of $3,500 per week (amortization on its equipment,
rent, taxes, and salaries) plus a cost of $4 per suit for chemicals, packaging materials, order
processing, and incidentals. Volume per week has been fairly constant at 600 suits.
A firm that operates three hotels in the city is asking the store to clean 150 two piece staff uniforms
per week at a price of $6.75 per suit. The process would be the same as the store uses on suits.
Because there are several dry cleaning stores ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why or why not?
The special job still should be accepted even if the hotel chain is only willing to pay $4.25 per
uniform. As mentioned previously, the price at $4.25 is still greater than the Marginal Cost at $4.00
and therefore it is still profitable for the firm to continue and make the uniform. The increase in
revenue would be $637.50 ($4.25*150), whereas the increase in costs would only be $600
($400*150). Therefore, even though the $4.25 is far below the $12.00 market price and the average
total cost of $8.67, it is still a profitable order.
Calculation below: =$4.25 =$4.00 =$8.67
3. Suppose the hotel chain is willing to negotiate the price. When you enter the negotiations, what is
the lowest price you are willing to accept (i.e., your reservation price)? (Of course, you will not
announce this price to the other party.)
Since this firm is in a perfectly competitive market, they must charge the same price in the industry to
be competitive. Since they have excessive capacity of up to 400 suits above their normal sales, the
incremental job allows them to negotiate a price anywhere revenue is greater than the variable cost per
shirt. The lowest price that the dry cleaning service should accept is the point where the Market
Price=Marginal Cost =Marginal Revenue, which is $4.00 per uniform. This is only the case because
the dry cleaning service has the excess capacity and

FOREIGN INTERNAL DEFENSE IN NORTH AFRICA

Terrorism and Counter Terrorism
May 15, 2016
In the United State s led Global War on Terror; the best battles are the ones won before they even start.
The way this is achieved is through a strategy called Foreign Internal Defense. Foreign Internal
Defense is the major military to military advisory effort under National Assistance 1. What that means
is Special Operations Forces and conventional military forces train, advise and assist, and equip
partner nation forces to carry out operations in their own area of operations. From Morocco to Libya,
Foreign Internal Defense is conducted to not only protect the host nation s citizens, but also to help
strengthen the security of the United States. With the growing threat the Islamic State presents to
North Africa, FID has been an excellent strategy to counter terrorism in the region by strengthening
partner nation forces and enhancing the trainer s skillset, building relationships between the United
States and partner nations, and successfully taking the fight to the Islamic State; however, its efficacy
has yet to be proven. The joint military definition of FID is participation by civilian and military
agencies of a government in any of the action programs taken by another government or other
designated organization to free and protect its society from subversion, lawlessness, and insurgency 2.
In short, military or civilian organizations

The Importance Of Expensing R D Expenditure
Some accounting committees and countries prefer expensing the R D expenditure to capitalization,
they concern about the conservatism rule, future economic benefit uncertainty and avoiding profit
manipulated of R D expenditure. However, expensing R D expenditure also cannot perfectly deal with
these problems as they expected. As the rapidly development of technology, especially in high tech
industry, intangible asset take up large number of the overall assets, whether the firm is successful or
not largely relay on these intangible assets, therefore, simple expensing all R D expenditure is
apparently inaccurate. One of the most important factors of expensing R D expenditure is the
uncertainty of R D. The Australian accounting profession s SAC 4 (1992) refers assets as future
economic benefits, which controlled by the entity as result of past transactions or other past events.
And the asset should be recorded in the statement of financial position when the expenditure of the
asset can be measured reliably and the future economic benefit generates from the asset is highly
likely backflow to the company. However, it is impossible of a company to accurately measure how
possibility of a firm can have future economic benefit generated by the asset. Moreover, the loose
concept of control of an asset that is the capacity of the entity to benefit from the asset in the pursuit of
the entity s objectives and to deny or regulate the access of others to that benefit. (Walker and

Pneumonia Is A Serious Disease
Introduction Globally, pneumonia is a serious disease that more often than not results in death.
However, with the exception of drug resistant strains, pneumonia is very preventable and easily
treated if caught early in the disease process. This is a summary of the disease process, clinical
presentation, and patient education about pneumonia. Pathophysiology Pneumonia is an infection of
the alveoli inside the lungs. It can have many causes including bacteria, viruses, fungi, or it may be a
consequence of another disease. The infection causes a purulent film to line the alveoli, which inhibits
gas exchange. It can be isolated to one lobe of the lungs (lobar pneumonia) or affect many areas of the
lungs (bronchopneumonia). The alveoli play the key role in gas exchange in the body and patients
may present with headache, vomiting and sweating, cough, dyspnea, and pleuritic pain. Causes
Pneumonia can have a variety of causes but the most common causes are viruses and bacteria.
Bacterial pneumonia is commonly caused by natural occurring bacteria that reside in the upper
respiratory tract and either through airborne droplet or defective defense mechanisms is able to
migrate into the lower respiratory tract and cause infection (Driver, 2014). Nair and Niederman found
the most common causes of bacterial pneumonia are Streptococcus pneumonia, Haemophilus
influenza type b, and Moraxella catarrhalis (2011). Viral pneumonia is generally caused by organisms
that originate in the

Salem Witch Theory Of Ergotism
In 1692, people started doing strange behaviors such as convulsing uncontrollably, or crying in fear
from a terrifying hallucination such as something dark and scary in their chimney. Due to the lack of
medical knowledge at that time, the citizens automatically assumed it was witchcraft and out of panic,
the Salem Witch Trials began. However, with advanced medical scientific experts around today, the
theory that actual witchcraft was a thing has been dropped. What remains a mystery is What was the
real cause of the strange behaviors? . The only thing that is certain is that it was not witchcraft. Even
though the reasons behind the strange behaviors is unknown, there are many theories. One of them is
the ergot poisoning theory. Ergot poisoning (also known as ergotism) comes from a fungus called
Claviceps purpurea. This harmful fungus often sprouts up around grains such as rye; and a lot of bread
is made from rye or wheat. Since bread was eaten a lot in Salem Massachusetts, this philosophy does
have some valid points. The symptoms of ergot poisoning match what the supposed victims of
witchcraft had as well; creating another supporting point to this theory. However, this philosophy also
has some questionable considerations as well such as the fact that animals used for meat could have
given the people alkoid poisoning from eating the fungus or the grains that it touched; or the fact some
scientists also say that the people of Salem Massachusetts were too healthy to have a

Knight And Squire In The Canterbury Tales Essay
The Canterbury Tales were written by Geoffrey Chaucer the 1300s, and told the story of twenty nine
travelers making a pilgrimage to Canterbury, England. The pilgrims wished to visit the relics of Saint
Thomas Becket, in the Canterbury Cathedral. In the prologue, the narrator depicts each character and
their demeanor. Two particular characters in Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the Knight and Squire, help
to exemplify the idea that wisdom and respect come with experience and age.
The Knight s wisdom and maturity above the Squire is proven not only through age, but he also
proved his traits through battle and hardships. The narrator tells of the Knight s voyages, stating that
he fought when Ayas and Attalia fell (Chaucer 60), embarked with ... Show more content on

By describing the Knight like this, the narrator also establishes the Knight as a model citizen who
demonstrates chivalry and enthusiasm to do the right thing, similar to the Squire. Rather than the
Squire s childish persona, the Knight is presented as a figure of maturity, formality, and authority, due
to his title as a knight. The Knight s maturity and genuinity illustrates how the Knight s wisdom and
respect comes from his experience and age above the Squire.
The narrator established that both the Knight and Squire acted as model citizens, but he also exposed
their motives for those actions, with the Knight s motives being more wise due to his age and
experiences. The narrator depicts the Knight as being genuinely kind, while the Squire has ulterior
motives. The Knight is said to have noble graces (Chaucer 50) and pure intentions with his actions.
This exposes the Knight s drive to act as a proper knight and leave the most honorable legacy possible
for himself. In contrast, the Squire is described as being motivated to act in hopes of winning a lady s
grace (Chaucer 90). The Squire is a younger knight in training, so it would be logical that his
intentions aren t as pure as those of a true knight, like his father. This is a demonstration of the Squire
s lack of wisdom, due to his naive motivation of courtship and his lack of driven motivation for his
future as a knight. The Squires lack of drive and

Genocide In The Cambodian Genocide
Genocides are defined as a large group of killings often of a specific ethnic group or nation. Genocides
targeting specific groups happen all over the world. Sometimes they are well known, while in other
cases they are hidden and not published as much. Unlike the Holocaust, The Khmer Rouge Regime
caused a smaller scale genocide in the heart of Cambodia. Beginning in the late 1960s the Khmer
Rouge Regime came into power. Their leader Pol Pot committed atrocities, killing a little over two
million innocent people. Pol Pot believed that this new society was becoming evil. He decided to
bring the city of Phnom Penh back to the middle ages with communal farming. He murdered every
intellectual of the country. He killed anyone who had any education, or even worse, glasses. He
isolated the city and everybody in it. There are many stories coming from the victim s point of view
and how they felt as 2.2 million of their own were killed. There are also reasons of why the
Cambodian government s committed this atrocity. Finally, there are the views from America and its
feelings towards watching the genocide go down from outside the country. Looking through all of
these different lenses of this genocide help get a big picture of how and why something so horrific
could have happened.
In Cambodia in the 1960s The Khmer Rouge Regime rose to power, which lead to the Cambodian
genocide in the 1970s. Pol Pot, the leader of this group, believed in a new country without evils. He
describes evils such as money and religion as the cause for the corrupt and terrible world he lives in.
Pol Pot s goal was to bring Cambodia back to the middle ages. Pol Pot dreamed of a perfect Cambodia
in which the society build a prosperous and happy Cambodian society in which all enjoy equality,
happiness and a society free from all class or individual forms of exploitation, in which everyone
strives to increase production and to defend the country (pg 415) . He began enforcing communal
farming as a new way of living. Pol pot states When we have rice, we can have everything is their
slogan (Journal of Contemporary Asia pg 414). Pol Pot along with the rest of the Khmer Rouge
Regime believed strongly in the perks that come out of farming. They

The Sun Also Rises By Gertrude Stein Act
Emily Friis Hansen Bowden 3 AP/GT English IV 12 18 14 Floating I Saw Only the Sky Introduction
You are all a lost generation is the opening prelude of the novel, The Sun Also Rises. Those six words
by Gertrude Stein act as a foreword for the novel, a story about a wandering group of expatriates,
drowning their sorrows in liquor and bullfights and glittering Paris lights, but also as the defining label
for an entire generation of doomed youth coming to age in a society deeply affected by World War I s
atrocities, characterized by hedonism, excess, and disillusionment with life itself. The men and women
who were flung headfirst into the horrific violence of war, whether it be through serving king and
country on the frontlines, nursing soldiers who had lost blood, limbs, or their minds, or even
witnessing the horrors of war secondhand through brothers, fathers, and husbands back home, became
psychologically and morally lost as they wandered aimlessly in a world that appeared meaningless.
The years following World War I was defined by a society in which people thought that the world they
lived in could no longer support their traditional ideas on love, life, happiness and contentment.
However, it was during this age that some of the most celebrated pieces of modernist art, literature,
and music emerged, with the epicenter of this movement based in a community of American
expatriates in Paris who produced works of astonishing range, incredible depth, and striking emotion.

Reflection Notes On The Book Of Amos
Reflection #3
After reading chapters 5 and 6 from the text, please read the following passages and thoughtfully
reflect on the questions. Upload your paper before the beginning of class on Monday, October 2.
1. Read Second Samuel 9 20 and First Kings 1 2. After having read this story, which most modern
interpreters consider a single literary unit, reflect on and discuss the main characters: David,
Bathsheba, Nathan, Joab, and Absalom. What adjectives come to mind in describing them? Are there
any sympathetic characters? What, if any, timeless qualities do you find in the story?
Sympathetic: joab, 2. Read the Book of Amos. A. In the Book of Amos, as in a number of the
prophetic works in the Hebrew Bible, God seems to show special regard for the poor and ire against
those who oppress them. Comment on passages in Amos that relate this. B. Imagine a contemporary
Amos appearing suddenly in the US. What would he say about the behaviors and patterns of today?
How might people (e.g. leaders, media) respond to his message?

Tetra Compare And Contrast
Tetra fish are one of the most easily available groups of fish in the hobby. There are many types of
tetra fish, and some are perfect for newcomers to fishkeeping. Other species are much more
challenging, and best avoided unless you ve kept tetras before.
Choosing The Best Tetras
Before you buy any tetra, know this: tetras are schooling fish. This means they prefer to be kept in a
group. Most species of tetras are happiest in groups of six or more of their own kind. Since you are
buying multiple fish, it is even more important to check the size the tetras you want will grow to. Six
six inch bucktoothed tetras will need a lot more room than six 1.2 1.5 inch Neon Tetras.
It is also good to know that most tetras are happiest in somewhat acidic water, although water
requirements vary greatly by species. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neon tetras used to have an excellent reputation for hardiness, but now the vast majority of them are
mass bred in the far east with no attention paid to health or quality. This means that the Neon Tetras
you buy now are often carrying this parasite when you buy them and die quickly. If you can get
disease free Neons, they are great fish, but Neons with this disease aren t worth buying no matter how
low the price. I wouldn t knowingly take Neons with this disease if they were free.
Neon Tetras are notoriously susceptible, but danios, cichlids, and most charachins can be susceptible
to Neon Tetra disease as well.
The most common recognizable symptom of Neon Tetra disease, Pleistophora hyphessobryconis, is a
loss of coloration with pale or white patches of skin, most commonly below the dorsal fish. There are
also other symptoms that include spinal curvature, emaciation, fin deterioration and erratic swimming.
Do not buy any fish that shows these signs!
Just to make life more complicated, there is a False Neon Tetra disease that shows many of the same
symptoms. This is a bacterial infection that can be cured by

The Importance Of A Natural Disaster
Disagreeing with this statement is the argument of scale and how this could be used to justify why a
natural disaster could exist. A devastating natural event could provide worldwide disruption and no
one could do anything to mitigate against it. This is what could be used to describe a natural disaster.
Nothing human increases the impact in such a way that could without human interference it would be
just another natural event. An example of this is the Yellowstone volcano. With predictions of the
eruption being VEI 8, this event would cause a worldwide destruction, covering the USA in thick ash
which by itself would cause devastating consequences to the entire country. This is noted in Keller and
DeVecchio s Natural Hazards book when they state that a quantity of 100km3 of pyroclastic debris
including ash would cover the size of Manhattan to a height of 1.6km which is 1000 times the amount
emitted by Mt St. Helens in 1980. This size of eruption would have a thickness of 100m near the
crater of Yellowstone and 1m thick up to 60mi away from the crater. (Keller and DeVecchio, 2012).
This size of eruption would cause health problems and fatalities all across the North of America and
could seriously affect global weather patterns. The 1991 Mt. Pinatubo eruption was a VEI 6, and
caused a global cooling of temperature down by 0.4°C (Self, Zhao, Holasek, Torres, King, 1999). This
had extremely catastrophic consequences in terms of agriculture which caused a large amount of

Quick Death in The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber Ernest Hemingway created a masterpiece of mystery in his story The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber . The mystery does not reveal itself to the reader until the end of the story, yet it leaves a lot to the imagination. At the end of the story Margaret Macomber kills her husband by accident, in order to save him from being mauled by a large Buffalo while on a safari in Africa. The mystery is whether or not this killing was truly accidental, or intentional. If it was to be considered intentional, there would certainly have to be evidence in the story suggesting such, with a clear motive as well. Robert Wilson seems to be right in his descriptions of the couple, and their relationship throughout the story. If this is true, and none of his presumptions about the couple are false, then he gains more credibility towards the end of the story. It is Wilson that gives the reader the best description of the relationship between Francis and his wife. It is his insight into Margot, however, that is the most detailed, and which seems to suggest that she might be capable of such an act. • 7. A Report On Japanese Tea As Japanese Tea Ceremony is an important part of Japanese food and culture, drinking tea was initially popular in China since the fourth century. From history, tea plants did not grow in Japan initially until the first seeds were brought from China during the Tang Dynasty (China 618 907). During this period, the two countries were at their prime as they were experiencing growing relationships and cultural exchanges between each other. In China, tea was esteemed for its medicinal value and represented an elegant drink. According to legend, the history of tea in Japan was created 1,300 years ago by a Buddhist monk, named Bodhidharma. Uniquely, the story is that he would have a daily routine of meditating for nine years just by staring at the wall of a cave. In his own personal journey, he battled his occasional drowsiness where he has to drink tea to ease the pain. Eventually, he came up with the idea of cutting off his eyelids, so his eyes would not close. Supposedly, on the place where he placed his severed eyelids, the first tea bushes appeared. From this legend, it was reported that this story is why the tea ceremony is so important to Zen Buddhism and Japanese culture as he was an important role model. (Hays, 2013) Initially, tea started as a powdered tea which were tea leaves that are steamed, dried, and then crushed into powder. In addition, the tea developed the split bamboo whisk that was to be stirred into the hot water. Throughout time, China replaced the powdered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The question one begs is, for what reason? Most readers would finish this story and assert that mentally, Montresor is insane. After assembling 20,000 tiny muscle cells in an in vitro environment and spending $375 000 it was a success the world had there first lab grown meat product. Cruelty free and with little damage on the environment it stood as a beacon of hope. Back 2011when this research was just being done Willem Van Elen one of the top researchers on lab grown meat gave an interview with the New Yorker 2011 explaining how the process worked. In vitro ... • 29. Freedom Writers Movie Analysis The movie, Freedom Writers, created in 2007, and directed by Richard LaGravenese, is an exceptional movie about a class at Woodrow Wilson High School that was involved in gang violence in the early 90 s. The class s teacher, Erin Gruwell, changes their lives and shows them that life is not all about gangs. Additionally, she has her class write in journals that later on get published into a book; the class titles the book, Freedom Writers. Throughout the film, LaGravenese does a superb job of displaying the students stories in a way that plays with one s emotions. Furthermore, LaGravenese also delineates Gruwell s ability to change the students lives. Overall, this is an excellent movie because it shows how a single person can make a difference, and how people can overcome the most horrific hardships. The film is set in Long Beach, California, in the early 90 s, and is focused on Erin Gruwell, a new english teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School. Erin was excited to teach, however her first day did not go as well as she hoped. The students in her class are extremely rowdy and apathetic towards learning. As the days go on, Erin tries different ways to try to relate to the kids to teach them. Nevertheless, the kids were still unwilling to learn because they had no respect towards Erin. Eventually, Erin learns that the kids do not even know what the Holocaust is. Additionally, Erin also purchases journals for her students; she wants her students to write their own personal experiences in them, and gives her students the option to let her read them. Most of them decided to do so. When Erin reads the journals she learns about the horrific tragedies a lot of the students have had to face. This makes Erin more passionate about her job, and makes her want to teach her students even more, so she decides to take them on a field trip to a Holocaust museum. The field trip had a huge impact on the students, and made them more driven to learn. As the year progresses, the students have more respect for Erin. Erin has her students read the diary of Anne Frank; the students were so moved by the novel that they fundraise to get the woman who housed Anne Frank, Miep Gies, speak at the school. After sometime, Erin has her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Case A Retail Dry Cleaning Shop A retail dry cleaning store cleans two piece suits for $12 each. Its patrons are individual walk ins. There are several similar dry cleaners in the city and this firm offers no special services. The firm can clean up to 1,000 suits per week. It has fixed costs of $3,500 per week (amortization on its equipment, rent, taxes, and salaries) plus a cost of $4 per suit for chemicals, packaging materials, order processing, and incidentals. Volume per week has been fairly constant at 600 suits. A firm that operates three hotels in the city is asking the store to clean 150 two piece staff uniforms per week at a price of $6.75 per suit. The process would be the same as the store uses on suits. Because there are several dry cleaning stores ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why or why not? The special job still should be accepted even if the hotel chain is only willing to pay $4.25 per uniform. As mentioned previously, the price at $4.25 is still greater than the Marginal Cost at $4.00 and therefore it is still profitable for the firm to continue and make the uniform. The increase in revenue would be $637.50 ($4.25*150), whereas the increase in costs would only be $600 ($400*150). Therefore, even though the $4.25 is far below the $12.00 market price and the average total cost of $8.67, it is still a profitable order. Calculation below: =$4.25 =$4.00 =$8.67 3. Suppose the hotel chain is willing to negotiate the price. When you enter the negotiations, what is the lowest price you are willing to accept (i.e., your reservation price)? (Of course, you will not announce this price to the other party.) Since this firm is in a perfectly competitive market, they must charge the same price in the industry to be competitive. Since they have excessive capacity of up to 400 suits above their normal sales, the incremental job allows them to negotiate a price anywhere revenue is greater than the variable cost per shirt. The lowest price that the dry cleaning service should accept is the point where the Market Price=Marginal Cost =Marginal Revenue, which is $4.00 per uniform. This is only the case because the dry cleaning service has the excess capacity and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Foreign Internal Defense Of North Africa FOREIGN INTERNAL DEFENSE IN NORTH AFRICA Michael Watson Terrorism and Counter Terrorism May 15, 2016 In the United State s led Global War on Terror; the best battles are the ones won before they even start. The way this is achieved is through a strategy called Foreign Internal Defense. Foreign Internal Defense is the major military to military advisory effort under National Assistance 1. What that means is Special Operations Forces and conventional military forces train, advise and assist, and equip partner nation forces to carry out operations in their own area of operations. From Morocco to Libya, Foreign Internal Defense is conducted to not only protect the host nation s citizens, but also to help strengthen the security of the United States. With the growing threat the Islamic State presents to North Africa, FID has been an excellent strategy to counter terrorism in the region by strengthening partner nation forces and enhancing the trainer s skillset, building relationships between the United States and partner nations, and successfully taking the fight to the Islamic State; however, its efficacy has yet to be proven. The Importance Of Expensing R D Expenditure Some accounting committees and countries prefer expensing the R D expenditure to capitalization, they concern about the conservatism rule, future economic benefit uncertainty and avoiding profit manipulated of R D expenditure. However, expensing R D expenditure also cannot perfectly deal with these problems as they expected. As the rapidly development of technology, especially in high tech industry, intangible asset take up large number of the overall assets, whether the firm is successful or not largely relay on these intangible assets, therefore, simple expensing all R D expenditure is apparently inaccurate. One of the most important factors of expensing R D expenditure is the uncertainty of R D. The Australian accounting profession s SAC 4 (1992) refers assets as future economic benefits, which controlled by the entity as result of past transactions or other past events. And the asset should be recorded in the statement of financial position when the expenditure of the asset can be measured reliably and the future economic benefit generates from the asset is highly likely backflow to the company. However, it is impossible of a company to accurately measure how possibility of a firm can have future economic benefit generated by the asset. • 34. Pneumonia Is A Serious Disease Introduction Globally, pneumonia is a serious disease that more often than not results in death. However, with the exception of drug resistant strains, pneumonia is very preventable and easily treated if caught early in the disease process. This is a summary of the disease process, clinical presentation, and patient education about pneumonia. Pathophysiology Pneumonia is an infection of the alveoli inside the lungs. It can have many causes including bacteria, viruses, fungi, or it may be a consequence of another disease. The infection causes a purulent film to line the alveoli, which inhibits gas exchange. It can be isolated to one lobe of the lungs (lobar pneumonia) or affect many areas of the lungs (bronchopneumonia). The alveoli play the key role in gas exchange in the body and patients may present with headache, vomiting and sweating, cough, dyspnea, and pleuritic pain. Causes Pneumonia can have a variety of causes but the most common causes are viruses and bacteria. Bacterial pneumonia is commonly caused by natural occurring bacteria that reside in the upper respiratory tract and either through airborne droplet or defective defense mechanisms is able to migrate into the lower respiratory tract and cause infection (Driver, 2014). Nair and Niederman found the most common causes of bacterial pneumonia are Streptococcus pneumonia, Haemophilus influenza type b, and Moraxella catarrhalis (2011). Viral pneumonia is generally caused by organisms that originate in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Salem Witch Theory Of Ergotism In 1692, people started doing strange behaviors such as convulsing uncontrollably, or crying in fear from a terrifying hallucination such as something dark and scary in their chimney. Due to the lack of medical knowledge at that time, the citizens automatically assumed it was witchcraft and out of panic, the Salem Witch Trials began. However, with advanced medical scientific experts around today, the theory that actual witchcraft was a thing has been dropped. What remains a mystery is What was the real cause of the strange behaviors? . The only thing that is certain is that it was not witchcraft. Even though the reasons behind the strange behaviors is unknown, there are many theories. One of them is the ergot poisoning theory. Ergot poisoning (also known as ergotism) comes from a fungus called Claviceps purpurea. This harmful fungus often sprouts up around grains such as rye; and a lot of bread is made from rye or wheat. Since bread was eaten a lot in Salem Massachusetts, this philosophy does have some valid points. The symptoms of ergot poisoning match what the supposed victims of witchcraft had as well; creating another supporting point to this theory. However, this philosophy also has some questionable considerations as well such as the fact that animals used for meat could have given the people alkoid poisoning from eating the fungus or the grains that it touched; or the fact some scientists also say that the people of Salem Massachusetts were too healthy to have a ... Knight And Squire In The Canterbury Tales Essay The Canterbury Tales were written by Geoffrey Chaucer the 1300s, and told the story of twenty nine travelers making a pilgrimage to Canterbury, England. The pilgrims wished to visit the relics of Saint Thomas Becket, in the Canterbury Cathedral. In the prologue, the narrator depicts each character and their demeanor. Two particular characters in Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the Knight and Squire, help to exemplify the idea that wisdom and respect come with experience and age. The Knight s wisdom and maturity above the Squire is proven not only through age, but he also proved his traits through battle and hardships. The narrator tells of the Knight s voyages, stating that he fought when Ayas and Attalia fell (Chaucer 60), embarked with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By describing the Knight like this, the narrator also establishes the Knight as a model citizen who demonstrates chivalry and enthusiasm to do the right thing, similar to the Squire. Rather than the Squire s childish persona, the Knight is presented as a figure of maturity, formality, and authority, due to his title as a knight. The Knight s maturity and genuinity illustrates how the Knight s wisdom and respect comes from his experience and age above the Squire. The narrator established that both the Knight and Squire acted as model citizens, but he also exposed their motives for those actions, with the Knight s motives being more wise due to his age and experiences. The narrator depicts the Knight as being genuinely kind, while the Squire has ulterior motives. The Knight is said to have noble graces (Chaucer 50) and pure intentions with his actions. This exposes the Knight s drive to act as a proper knight and leave the most honorable legacy possible for himself. In contrast, the Squire is described as being motivated to act in hopes of winning a lady s grace (Chaucer 90). The Squire is a younger knight in training, so it would be logical that his intentions aren t as pure as those of a true knight, like his father. This is a demonstration of the Squire s lack of wisdom, due to his naive motivation of courtship and his lack of driven motivation for his future as a knight. The Squires lack of drive and ... Genocides targeting specific groups happen all over the world. Sometimes they are well known, while in other cases they are hidden and not published as much. Unlike the Holocaust, The Khmer Rouge Regime caused a smaller scale genocide in the heart of Cambodia. Beginning in the late 1960s the Khmer Rouge Regime came into power. Their leader Pol Pot committed atrocities, killing a little over two million innocent people. Pol Pot believed that this new society was becoming evil. He decided to bring the city of Phnom Penh back to the middle ages with communal farming. He murdered every intellectual of the country. He killed anyone who had any education, or even worse, glasses. He isolated the city and everybody in it. There are many stories coming from the victim s point of view and how they felt as 2.2 million of their own were killed. There are also reasons of why the Cambodian government s committed this atrocity. Finally, there are the views from America and its feelings towards watching the genocide go down from outside the country. Looking through all of these different lenses of this genocide help get a big picture of how and why something so horrific could have happened. In Cambodia in the 1960s The Khmer Rouge Regime rose to power, which lead to the Cambodian genocide in the 1970s. Pol Pot, the leader of this group, believed in a new country without evils. He describes evils such as money and religion as the cause for the corrupt and terrible world he lives in. Pol Pot s goal was to bring Cambodia back to the middle ages. Pol Pot dreamed of a perfect Cambodia in which the society build a prosperous and happy Cambodian society in which all enjoy equality, happiness and a society free from all class or individual forms of exploitation, in which everyone strives to increase production and to defend the country (pg 415) . • 39. The Sun Also Rises By Gertrude Stein Act Emily Friis Hansen Bowden 3 AP/GT English IV 12 18 14 Floating I Saw Only the Sky Introduction You are all a lost generation is the opening prelude of the novel, The Sun Also Rises. Those six words by Gertrude Stein act as a foreword for the novel, a story about a wandering group of expatriates, drowning their sorrows in liquor and bullfights and glittering Paris lights, but also as the defining label for an entire generation of doomed youth coming to age in a society deeply affected by World War I s atrocities, characterized by hedonism, excess, and disillusionment with life itself. The men and women who were flung headfirst into the horrific violence of war, whether it be through serving king and country on the frontlines, nursing soldiers who had lost blood, limbs, or their minds, or even witnessing the horrors of war secondhand through brothers, fathers, and husbands back home, became psychologically and morally lost as they wandered aimlessly in a world that appeared meaningless. The years following World War I was defined by a society in which people thought that the world they lived in could no longer support their traditional ideas on love, life, happiness and contentment. However, it was during this age that some of the most celebrated pieces of modernist art, literature, and music emerged, with the epicenter of this movement based in a community of American expatriates in Paris who produced works of astonishing range, incredible depth, and striking emotion. ... A devastating natural event could provide worldwide disruption and no one could do anything to mitigate against it. This is what could be used to describe a natural disaster. Nothing human increases the impact in such a way that could without human interference it would be just another natural event. An example of this is the Yellowstone volcano. With predictions of the eruption being VEI 8, this event would cause a worldwide destruction, covering the USA in thick ash which by itself would cause devastating consequences to the entire country. This is noted in Keller and DeVecchio s Natural Hazards book when they state that a quantity of 100km3 of pyroclastic debris including ash would cover the size of Manhattan to a height of 1.6km which is 1000 times the amount emitted by Mt St. Helens in 1980. This size of eruption would have a thickness of 100m near the crater of Yellowstone and 1m thick up to 60mi away from the crater. (Keller and DeVecchio, 2012). This size of eruption would cause health problems and fatalities all across the North of America and could seriously affect global weather patterns. The 1991 Mt.
