On Bullshit Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "On Bullshit" poses a unique set of challenges, primarily
because the subject matter itself is both abstract and provocative. First and foremost, one must
grapple with the nuanced definition and conceptualization of "bullshit" as explored by the
renowned philosopher Harry G. Frankfurt. The task requires a deep understanding of
philosophical discourse and a keen ability to dissect the layers of meaning embedded in the text.
Moreover, the challenge lies in navigating the fine line between a mere summary of Frankfurt's
ideas and the development of an original and insightful analysis. The essay demands a careful
exploration of the implications of "bullshit" in various contexts, be it in everyday
communication, politics, or academia. This requires a comprehensive examination of the
philosophical underpinnings and a critical engagement with real-world examples.
Additionally, one must address the broader implications of Frankfurt's work, delving into
questions of truth, sincerity, and the nature of discourse in contemporary society. Balancing the
theoretical aspects with practical applications requires a deft touch and a thorough understanding
of the broader philosophical landscape.
Writing an essay on this topic also involves the challenge of maintaining a coherent and cohesive
argument. Given the abstract nature of the subject, it is crucial to weave together a narrative that
connects the dots seamlessly, guiding the reader through the complexities of Frankfurt's ideas
without losing sight of the overarching thesis.
In conclusion, composing an essay on the theme of "On Bullshit" demands intellectual rigor, a
nuanced understanding of philosophical concepts, and the ability to synthesize complex ideas
into a cohesive and compelling narrative. Successfully navigating these challenges can result in
an essay that not only captures the essence of Frankfurt's work but also contributes meaningfully
to the ongoing discourse on truth, language, and communication.
(At this point, I would like to emphasize the importance of academic integrity and discourage
the use of external services for completing assignments. Instead, I encourage individuals to
engage with the material, seek guidance from instructors, and develop their skills in essay
writing. Understanding and grappling with complex topics is a valuable part of the learning
process.)

When Attending College Is Not Worth It
Imagine after working hard the past four years of your life at college you graduate.
You are faced with the realization that the next 10 years of your life you ll be faced
with paying off all of your college debt. You will hardly have any income at all.
Students may decide college is not worth it because the debts are huge and difficult
for a young adult to pay off. Also, it is very possible for a determined high school
graduate to get a quality job to support themself without the expensive fees of
attending a college. Therefore, students should rethinks their goal of getting into a
quality college because attending college is not worth it.
College is not a wise investment because the debts are huge and they are a struggle
to pay off. According

Blackstone and the Sale of Citigroup s Loan Portfolio
Blackstone and The Sale of Citigroup s Loan Portfolio
In the second half of 2007, the banking industry and financial market showed signs
of considerable stress by raising the default rate of mortgage and the decline in the
value of residential mortgage backed securities. This had led to a re pricing of many
debt instruments. By the end of 2007, Citigroup declared that the fair value of its
U.S. sub prime related direct exposure could decline by 20%. This affected Citigroup
s financial results and would incur further losses in the future.
One of Citigroup s main concerns was the risk of their exposure from holding
leveraged loans. Due to the increasing risks and ... Show more content on

Therefore, it is reasonable that prices will recover, which, in the long run, would
benefit Blackstone.
Why is the Citigroup seeking to sell the portfolio of leveraged loan?
Citigroup s leveraged loan exposure is composed of two main risks. First, holding
these leveraged loans could be costly from a regulatory capital perspective because
they hold a 100 percent risk weight. Citigroup would need $80 million of capital for
every billion dollars of leverage loan. By selling these leveraged loans, Citigroup
would reduce capital requirement. Second, a decline in the leveraged loan index
(LCDX) value from 97 cents on the dollar to 92 cents on the dollar posed a $1.5
billion loss on its leveraged loan portfolio for the fiscal year ending on December 31,
2007.
Furthermore, Citibank did not intend to hold theses loans. Like many others,
Citigroup had suffered unprecedented losses and was facing the prospect of having
even more considerable losses. By selling these loans, the bank s image was greatly
improved.

information need to be changed, they might need to re fill forms. The annual
timetable will be set up at the beginning of the year. Based on the lesson schedule,
the manager will assign suitable staff and volunteers. Additionally, the advantages
of using paper based system are that making notes on files and sharing within a
large group easily. Also, the paper based system will have low requirements on the

system is that the manager has to check records manually, which may cause some
unnecessary errors. Another disadvantage is that the current system does not

Compare Contrast Gilgamesh and Beowulf
Comparison and Contrast Essay Final Draft: Gilgamesh vs. Beowulf
The epics of Beowulf and Gilgamesh are about a pair of heroes who had many
common characteristics as well as characteristics that contradict one another. Beowulf
is a Christian epic that roots from the Anglo Saxon culture. Throughout the plot, there
are numerous biblical allusions. Grendel who haunted the moors, the wild Marshes,
and made his home in a hell not hell but earth. He was spawned in that slime,
conceived by a pair of monsters born of Cain, murderous creatures banished By God,

Beowulf has numerous battles. He fights with Grendel, Grendel s mother, and a
dragon. Going into these fights, Beowulf already had God s favor, because
Grendel and his mother were descendants of Cain, and they were from hell. Hail to
those who will rise to God, drop off their dead bodies, and seek our Father s peace.
(from Beowulf part one, translated by Burton Raffel pg 23 lines 101 103).
Although Gilgamesh is favored by many gods and Beowulf is favored by one god,
it is this favor that makes them both heroes. In contrast, Beowulf and Gilgamesh
had different endings to their lives. Beowulf died after his battle with the dragon.
That final day was the first time when Beowulf fought and fate had denied him
glory in battle. (from Beowulf Part two translated by Seamus Heaney pg 45 lines

he went on a journey to find the secret to everlasting life. Seven days and nights I sat

of his nose.

In the novel Lord of the Flies William Golding uses many forms of symbolism to
point out the underlying conflicts in their society. By using these symbols he makes
the reader not only think about the problems that arise in the book, but also hints
towards problems in our society today. The story uses the conch, fire, and the glasses
to reference other meanings in the story. These symbols play a crucial part in the
story in which they provide the reader with information that isn t directly stated but is
inferred. The first symbolthat appears in the story is the conch which was found by

Shortly after a problem arises and they make another rule We ve got to have
special people for looking after the fire. Any day there may be a ship out there he
waved his arm at the taut wire of the horizon and if we have a signal going they ll
come and take us off. (Golding, 42). At this point in the novel their society has its
first hopes of rescue and success. The fire symbolizes the society wanting saved
from the island and the burning hope that it may one day happen. The Beast also
appeared throughout the story as the fear of the society not succeeding and the
apparent danger they were in. Piggy doesn t believe that the fear is real. He states
that I know there isn t no beast not with claws and all that, I mean but I know there
isn t no fear, either (Golding, 83). The beast represents the evil of the boys and the
darkness that surrounds the society. Jack on the other hand believes that the beast
is real and says Bollocks to the rules! We re strong we hunt! If there s a beast, we ll
hunt it down! We ll close in and beat and beat and beat ! (Golding, 102). Jack
believes that the beast can be hunted down but the beast is a symbolism for the fear
inside of each and every one of them. The beast cannot be hunted or killed because
the beast is them. Golding s great use of imagery confused readers at first but is deep
and meaningful in the plot. The use of the beast, fire, and the
The Queen Who Understood Her People
Alexandrina Victoria was destined to be Queen of England from the moment of
her conception. Commonly referred to as the queen who understood the people,
Victoria spent her entire childhood preparing to take the throne of England. In fact,
the future Empress of India didn t have much of a childhood. She was allowed
very little freedom in her early life, which caused her to ban her mother from court
upon her coronation (Turner). Victoria evidently liked to be in control of things and
certainly used this to make her mark on history. As the longest reigning monarch at
the time, Victoria had 60 years to influence England (All Empires). Queen Victoria
impacted history and the 19th Century in many ways, through culture, politics and
morality. Queen Victoria is perhaps most famous for popularizing the white
wedding dress (Woodham Smith). At the time, women were married in dresses of
almost any color. However, when pictures of the queen in a beautiful white dress
circulated, women began to imitate her example, just as they imitated her hairstyle
on the postage (Queen Victoria Penny Black Single). After it became evident that
Victoria and her new husband Albert were truly in love the white wedding dress
became a romantic symbol of true love. Indeed, Victoria was so in love with her
husband that she became quite useless for many years after his death. Her approach
to marriage was so different from most royals that it caused people to take notice.

The Importance Of Insect Population In Germany
Current Event: Week Eight According to an Off The Grid news site, the insect
population in Germany has decreased significantly in the last few decades. Nearly
seventy five percent of the insects in the nature reserves have been wiped out,
leaving only twenty five percent left. Due to this significant decrease, it is expected
for the food web to be widely affected since many other animals rely on these
insects as a source of food. One of the insects that are dying out is the honeybee,
which can affect humans since these bees are needed to pollinate crops. Honeybees
are a major pollinator of our food crops such as almonds, apples, cantaloupes,
cranberries, cherries, sunflowers, cucumbers, watermelon and much more. They

According to Ramstad, Alegra was put into detention because of a threat made to
another student, which was a complete misunderstanding. Alegra was simply
sticking up for herself after being bullied by the same student for the past year (9
News). As a result of the incident, the parents decided to hire an attorney named
Igor Raykin and may file a lawsuit against the school for the traumatization of their
daughter. Soon after the Douglas County School District General Counsel
provided a statement to the community mentioning that the safety and well being
of the students are a top priority. They also discussed how the detention room
allows freedom for students to work on their homework and leave the room when
needed. However, this freedom was not demonstrated when Ramstad arrived at the
school to see her daughter in one of the rooms. The incident sparks controversy of
the school s treatment of children and brings up the question of how many other
children were put into this cell and if these children s parents were aware of this
occurrence. If so, a lawsuit should be filed against the school against those parents
as well. It is sad to see the actions this elementary school decided to take in order to
fix these children s behavioral issues or in this case a misunderstood situation.
Hopefully, this news story will help the school realize their idea of detention is
inhumane and degrading.

Persuasive Essay About Smoking
Italy is one of the most beautiful countries in the world but unfortunately it is the
nation that has the most number of baby smokers in Europe. Many teens in Italy
start to smoke because they want to feel like adults or they want to show off infront
of their friends. We must also say that in Italy smokingis more of a social thing too;
for example when you want to hang out with a friend, sometimes you ask if he or
she wants to smoke a cigaret in company. I tried my first cigarettewhen I was only 15
years old and looking back at it now I regret it so much. My best friend at that time,
offered me a cigaret and the ignorant and immature me did not want to refuse it and
appear a loser in front of all my other friends. That, unfortunately, become the first
of many and many other cigarettes. It was not until 17 that I got addicted and
dependent from smoking, after having heard a false myth about how cigarettes
make you lose weight in a blink of an eye. At first smoking was like a game, trying
to feel adults and going against what my parents were telling me and then I became
so addicted to cigarettes that I am still here those days struggling to get out of this bad
habit, that was just harming my health.
One of the biggest problems in my life that I am still working today after almost
two years in trying, it is to quit smoking. I am so addicted to the smell, the taste and
the action of bringing the cigarette to my mouth that it seems almost impossible for
me to get out of this bad habit. The biggest reason why I am so determined in trying
to put to an end on my smoking addiction is because it causes harm to my health,
both physically and mentally. A cigarette contains a pretty high number of substances
that are harmful to our body. The adverse effects of these substances can lead to
tumor, strokes and heart attacks, a decrease in oxygenation of tissues,
carcinogenicity. This are only some of the many negative effects that cigarettes have
on our body. Carbon monoxide is in my opinion the most dangerous of the substance
that composes a cigarette. Carbon monoxide is a very toxic gas that borns from the
combustion of nicotine and adversely affects the transport of oxygen though my body,
which is why I sometimes

Regression Analysis
Regression Analysis and Business Rules of thumb, instinct, convention, and simple
financial analysis are frequently no longer adequate for addressing such common
decisions found in business such as make versus buy, facility site selection, and
process redesign. Generally, the forces of competition are commanding a need for
more efficient decision making at all levels in companies. Decision analysts provide
quantitative support for the decision makers in all areas including engineers, analysts
in planning offices and public agencies, project managementconsultants,
manufacturing process planners, financial and economic analysts and experts
supporting medical and technological diagnosis (Tools for Decision Analysis:
Analysis of Risky Decisions, 2012). Modeling for decision making comprises two
distinct entities, one is the decision maker and the other is the model builder who is
known as the analyst. The function of the analyst is to help the decision maker in
their decision making process. Consequently, the analyst must be outfitted with more
than a set of analytical methods. Specialists in model building are frequently lured to
study a problem, and then go off by themselves to develop a complex mathematical
model for use by the manager. Unfortunately the manager may not comprehend this
model and may either use it blindly or decline it all together. The specialist may feel
that the manager is too uninformed and unsophisticated to be grateful for the model,

Female Athletes And Gender Roles
There are so many issues when it comes to gender roles, gender norms, and gender
identities. Many men and women in today s society freely choose the way they
want to present themselves to society; which is either masculine or feminine. A lot
of these characteristics are accepted, and a lot are not accepted in society today.
There are many social stigmas that come along with being a female athlete;
meaning there is major social criticism with how they choose to present themselves
to society. Gender is a symbol for a strong system of norms that analyzes and leads
the behavior of men and women (Schur 1984; Blinde and Taube 1992). So why are
female athletes portrayed in such a polarized fashion? Female athletes are strong,
powerful, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I m also going to discuss societies views of why and how female athletes portray
themselves and why it s not acceptable. Gender Polarization Gender polarization is
an idea that discusses how American society describes the difference between
femininity and masculinity. According to Krane (2004), female athletes are
expected to fulfill certain hegemonic femininity while refraining from any
masculine ways. Common behaviors construct and reinforce gendered practices as
well as differential distribution of privilege, power, and resources. Behaviors that
are acceptable for men are, and should not be seen as suitable behaviors for
women. In western culture, it is stressed that a womanly body figure and behavior
contradicts with a body and behavior of an athlete (Krane et al. 2004). The theory
of gender polarization extends from explaining the difference between sex and
gender. Sex is what you are born as (i.e. man or woman). Gender is how one
chooses to present themselves society. Women in today s society hold up to certain
qualities that they should maintain. Sometimes it s hard for a female athlete to
convey these qualities because of how they carry themselves. Carty (2005) says that
images perceived to be more of a traditional feminine role (i.e. sensual, dependency,
value the importance of family and relationships, etc.) are downplayed. That way the
female athletes can promote

how much literature is diversifying. It is especially pleasing that, while the LGBT
themes are very frequent throughout the book, they aren t the whole story. To those

Review of Literature
According to Fain (2017), in order to validate the need for a study, an updated
literature review is vital. The cited literature is all pertinent to the research
problem. The literature review defines the knowledge gap and it is clearly
understood how the researcher reached the objective. The concept of the literature
review is included which states that knowledge of institutional guidelines and how
they are perceived and adhered to by nurses is limited. A brief summary of relevant
literature and implications to the research reveals five professional practice
guidelines for VAP prevention and chose the three that were used most often to
describe adherence guidelines as well as explore how user factors, guideline
qualities, and contextual factors influence adherence (Kiyoshi Teo et al., 2014).
The resources used are primarily primary sources which, according to Fain (2017)
means they are written by the person who developed the theory or conducted the
research (p. 88). There appears to be no secondary sources which is good because an
appropriate literature review mainly reflects the use of primary sources (Fain, 2017,
p. 88).
Theoretical Framework
In a study based on theory, the framework is usually referred to as theoretical
framework (Fain, 2017, p. 103). The theoretical framework was presented clearly in
the objective statement of the article, To identify factors that influence adherence to

The Poetry Of Pablo Neruda
Ricardo EliГ©cer NeftalГ Reyes Basoalto, also known as Pablo Neruda was born on
July 12, 1904 in a small town in Chile. Neruda s mother died shortly after his birth,
leaving him in the care of his father. Neruda began to write at the age of ten.
Gabriela Mistral, who would later become a Nobel Prize winner, recognized
Neruda s talents by giving him books and encouragement he did not have at home.
In his early teen years, he began to publish his writings under the name of what we
know as Pablo Neruda in memory of the Czechoslovak poet, Jan Neruda, but also to
avoid his father s disapproval of Neruda s interests in literature. This essay will

Because of Garcia Lorca s death, Neruda joined the Republican movement, starting
off in Spain then in France, Neruda worked on a collection of poems called EspaГ±a
en el CorazГіn, or, Spain in our Hearts. When these poems were written, Neruda
seemed to be in a very difficult place and it seemed like he would be for a very
long time. For example, his poem, Cursed states, Bring, bring the lamp, see the
soaked earth, see the blackened little bone eaten by the flames, the garment of
murdered Spain. Just by that excerpt, you can tell that the tone of this poem is
very dark. In fact, the majority of Neruda s poems in this book seemed as if they
all had the same tone; gloomy and pessimistic. His poems reflected this tone from
the 1940 s and onward, showing the political struggle in South America. This does
show that life experiences can really affect the way that poets write. A
disheartening event can lead a poet to write very depressing poems, and vice versa.
Even though Neruda wrote a lot about the political struggle, he also wrote a lot of
poems about love, such as, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair. One love
poem that he wrote, Your Laughter, was intriguing. The poem reveals how the person
in the poem is obviously struggling in life. But, the laughter of their significant other
s motivates them to keep driving through whatever darkness they are going through,
and keeps them happy as well. A small excerpt of the poem states, My struggle

they think that the person he or she is stalking is theirs in some way it is important
to protect oneself first. In today s world of popularity of movie stars and political

This decision should also apply to the person who is under protection. Not all people

Use of Force
The use of force has always been a questionable tactic in law enforcement and
security fields. Everyone always questions how much force is needed, was the force
justifiable and could the officer have done something differently to deter the use of
force. By teaching officers and protection agents what is the appropriate level of
force and in what situations force can be stronger will help to prevent unnecessary
questioning by the public and the media. Most agencies have guidelines and policies
that outline the use of force. These guidelines describe the escalating continuum that
is appropriate for officers and agents to use.
The use of force continuum is designed into five separate levels. Level one is the
simple presence of an officer or agent. The agent is non threatening and
professional, and the mere presence of the agent is to act as deterrence for an
attacker. Level two is the verbalization level. This is when an agent uses verbal
commands such as please step back, stop, or do not move to make the individual to
stop his or her approach. This is a non physical stage and is used to let the attacker
know that there is someone present to stop him or her if he or she continues. Level

the environment. It is therefore important for businesses to make strategic decisions
on how to either reduce or make the effect of the risk less severe as much as possible.
Businesses have to identify and manage their risks to ensure their success and
continuation. According to the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the
Treadway Commission (COSO), Uncertainties present both risks and opportunities,
with potential to erode or enhance value. Risk management is an increasingly
important business driver and stakeholders have become much more concerned
about risk. The 2008 2009 global financial crisis and the rapidly deteriorating
global economy has created a context in which companies now face risks that are
more complex, more interconnected, and potentially more devastating than ever
before. Failure to adequately acknowledge and effectively manage risks associated
with decisions being made throughout the organization can and often do lead to
potentially catastrophic results. Risk may be a driver of strategic decisions, it may
be a cause of uncertainty in the organization or it may simply be embedded in the
activities of the organization. A good Risk Management program means that the
company is able, first of all to identify, then to measure risks, to project, to set limits
and to keep losses
Elphaba In Maguire s Novel
Elphaba embodies feminist characteristics throughout the novel. She is strong
minded and passionate in what she believes in. She sacrifices her happiness in
order to fight for the rights of Animals. She displays determination and
perseverance in a cause that deals with discrimination of a species. Maguire uses
this opportunity to show that women should engage in gaining their freedom or
stand up for a cause they believe in. This is reflected through Elphaba s actions as
she defends the rights of Animals. Elphaba also expresses her strong will when she
encountered the Wizard. She demandingly asks the Wizard to change the way
Animals were treated even though she is aware of his authority. So what? Elphaba
said. I m mad. (Baum 104). She... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Glinda is presented as feminine and well groomed. She wears extravagant dresses
that are colorful and loud in order to impress as well as climb the social hierarchy.
She exposes her wealth through her appearance and clothing. Galinda was glad for
the natural advantages of her flaxen hair, and stood by a window so the light could
dazzle itself off her curls (Maguire 42). She uses beauty to her advantage in order
to attain whatever she desires. Elphaba in the other hand wears darker and plain
clothing. Her clothes are simple and do not attract any attention. Munchkinlander
girls had a habit of quieter dress, so understated that they were often mistaken, in
Shiz, for servants. (Maguire 53). Her ranking in society is based on clothing which
is a very typical thing for a woman to be judged by. Most of the time, women are
based on their appearances rather than their intellect. Elphaba is able to convince
Glinda, before known as Galinda to think rather than use her beauty to marry a
rich man and be successful in life. I require a statesman or a banker from Ozma

to climb the social ladder rather than using her own intelligence. By having Elphaba
as a roommate, Glinda learned how to think for herself and not rely on her beauty.
Elphaba helping Glinda see her potential, empowers both characters since they do not

My Dreams Of My Life
I grew up in a small southern town, so my parents have this image of what they
expect my life to be like. They expect their baby girl to go to college for teaching or
agriculture. They also expect that I will be stable enough to be on my own and
completely support myself by the age of twenty one. They even expect for me to
marry a country boy who can help out around home if need be. So far I have not
met their expectations at all, and they still manage to be proud of just about every
decision I make.
Although my parents wanted me to go to school for teaching or agriculture, I started
nursing school my senior year of high school. They didn t think that I would stick
with nursing so it was no big deal when I was sixteen or seventeen, and decided
that was the path I wanted to take with my life. A year after high school graduation
and I was 19 graduating with my LPN. My parents were way more proud of me
than I could have ever dreamed of. They brag to their friends to this day about all
the stress I got myself through and all of the hard work and dedication I had to put
in too accomplish this dream of mine. Not only did I accomplish one dream of
mine but I am going back to school full time to get my RN while working full time
in doctor s office, this makes their face light up every time they brag to their
friends or family about it. I may not be the a farmer like my parents wanted, but I
am a teacher in a certain way. I teach people how to take care of their wounds. I teach
Democracy and Government
Democracy is defined as the belief in freedom and equality between people, or a
system of government based on this belief, in which power is either held by elected
representatives or directly by the people themselves. So by the very definition, these
governments are enlisted to advocate for the interest of its citizens regardless of
gender, race or age. All democracies are governmentby a specific document which
outline the method in which they are run and what rights they protect. A common
facet in all these documents is a clause that states that the government runs solely on
the will of the people, wand when will differs, the majority will prevail. However the
purpose of democracyis that it allows the ideals of minorities to be expressed. This
balanced system allows for all to have a voice. Unfortunately many times Lobbyists
and political parties can generalize the will of the people, serving industries more
than citizens. However this is often checked up on, and with recent emergence of
third parties, the voice of people can be heard.
Democracies are set to address the issues which adolescents believe are important,
and many have infrastructure to deal with adolescent issues. One of the popular
examples of this is the United States We the People online petitions, an interactive
way that allows the White House keep a pulse on important issues. Any petition that
is signed by more than one hundred thousand people, will be officially and publicly
addressed by the
George Herbert Mead s Concept Of The Self
Me
George Herbert Mead focused on the idea of the self. He breaks the self down into
two main sections, the me and the I . The two go hand in hand with each other.
Applerouth and Edles (2012) explains the me as a sense of who we are that is
created, sustained, and modified throughout interaction with others. (308). In this
sense it is the person you are once you take into account what others will think
about you. The best way to understand Mead s concept of the I is best described by
Applerouth and Edles (2012) when stated, The I reacts or answers to the me, the
phase of the self that one is conscious of. (Applerouth and Edles 2012: 308).
Thinking through the me is a daily act that all of us participate in, from picking out
clothes, to deciding where we want to eat dinner, we go through scenarios about
what others will think, and how this will affect us. The I is less predictable than
the me , we can try to plan out our actions, but responses are in the moment
interaction with others, which are far harder to anticipate. While they both play a
role in who we are today, I focused on Mead s idea of the me in relation to reasons
why there is gender inequality in STEM fields. As stated before the me has a huge
influential power over our lives. Mead explains the me using a basketball example,
there is a boy who has the ball and he sees his teammates waiting for him to pass the
ball, the boy knows the expectations his teammates have for him (Mead 1934:
The Negative Impact Of Prohibition
On January 16, 1920 the United States went dry. The 18th Amendment was fully in
effect and the country would test this Noble Experiment for the next thirteen years
until its repeal in 1933. It is the only amendment to ever be repealed partly for all the
havoc it created. During the 1930 s Prohibition had caused an increase of crime,
higher consumption of alcohol and weakened the economy.
This movement was supported partly because people thought drinking was a cause of
corruption and was aimed to improve lives. All breweries, distilleries, and saloons
were forced to shut down immediately. The purpose of this law was to ban the
manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors. While it was the 18th
Amendment that established Prohibition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When prohibition took effect, there was total destruction of the brewing and
distilling industry (Blocker). The closing of breweries, distilleries and saloons led
to the elimination of thousands of jobs, and in turn, thousands more jobs were
eliminated for barrel makers, truckers, waiters, and other related trades. The hope
was that revenue from alcohol would shift towards other businesses instead the
opposite happened, having a terrible effect on society (Blocker). One of the most
profound effects of Prohibition was on government tax revenues. Before
Prohibition, many states relied heavily on excise taxes on liquor sales to fund
their budgets. In New York, almost 75% of the state s revenue was derived from
liquor taxes (Lerner). With Prohibition in effect, that revenue was immediately
lost. At the national level, Prohibition cost the federal government a total of $11
billion in lost tax revenue, while costing over $300 million to enforce (Lerner).
The Great Depression was chiefly responsible for the end of prohibition. From
1930 to 1931, income tax revenues fell by 15 percent. In 1932 they fell another 37
percent; 1932 income tax revenues were 46 percent lower than just two years earlier
(Lerner). And by 1933 they were fully 60 percent lower than in 1930 (Lerner). With
no end of The Great Depression in sight, The government looked for another source
of income to generate money so
The Influence of the Western Culture on the
Introduction
Culture is a broad term which has been described by various philosophers since
decades. It has been claimed by Raymond Williams to be ...one of the two or three
most complicated words in English language (Williams, 1976). Different definitions
of the term, culture may have distinct descriptive ways and criterion to evaluate
human activity. It is important to define the broad base of the sophisticated term
culture , in the sense used later in the paper, to narrow down the discussion on our
topic.
Culture is a word stemming from a Latin word cultura which means to cultivate
(Harper, 2008). It is defined by Findley and Rothney as, systems of symbols and
meanings that even their creator contest, which lack fixed boundaries, ... Show more

At the same time Globalization allows different cultures to combine and integrate
through having common social activists, labor organizers, journalists, academics and
many others (Sundaram, 2006). Music, theater and the film industry has also been
broadly influenced by the increased globalization.
Music has been a center stone of the sub continental background. It has been
traditionaly been based on the simple melodies and is regarded as one of the most
well developed systems of the classical world. The classical beats of the
conventional music provide the true cultural and the traditional taste to the sub

under the influence of the Islamic presence. There is a faction who believes that
the classic sub continental traditional music dates back to Amir Khusro, one of the
singers in the Mughal Empire. The remarkable poetry by some famous poets
brought the traditional music to new hieghts. However the first influence of the sub
continental music of such kind was widely evident in the 1960 s when it found its
way in the form of some extra ordinary play of the sitar (a voiln type instrument) by
Ravi Shankar on the famous Beatles album, Sgt. Pepper s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
The sub continental music made its way into the west with the well known players
such as Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan. This was the first time
The Role Of Interest Groups In America
One of the common roles that interest groups play in America is through
representation, which ultimately stems from the reason why these groups were
created in the first place. Interest groups are groups of individuals that come together
to influence public policy decisions. The most effective way interest groups can
influence policy making and bring issues to a larger audience is by focusing on
maintaining and expanding their membership. Citizens are able to find representation
in an interest group, regardless of their geographical location; as well as aligning
themselves with the group which best suits them. Educating policymakers on issues
that are important to them is possible the main intent of an interest group. Quite

Formal And Informal Modes Of Organizational
Communication...
ASSIGNMENT 1
Q1) Theoretical underpinnings of formal and informal modes of organizational
communication.
a) Formal and informal modes of communication are explained below Formal modes
of organizational communication are of four types they are: 1) Upward 2)
Downward 3) Horizontal 4) Diagonal
1) Upward Communication:
Upward communication is the process of flowing information from lower levels to
higher levels in an organization. It helps the employees to share their ideas, views,
requirements and feelings to the top level management to make decisions .It also
alerts the top level management about to changes in the requirements in an
organization.
2) Downward Communication:
Downward communication is the process of flowing information from higher levels
of hierarchy to bottom levels. So the higher level management is to be very skilled to
motivate the bottom level employees to maintain the organization in a proper way.
Generally downward communication consists of rules and regulations passed by a
higher authorities in a company to their employees like sending emails or assigning
projects to the employees.
3) Horizontal Communication:
Horizontal communication is the sending of information between people,
departments, divisions or units within the same level of organizational hierarchy. In

Utah Symphony Research Paper
Utah Symphony
The Utah Symphony is a hierarchy based organization. The organization was founded
in 1940 by Maurice Abravanel, who led and transformed the symphony over his 32
year reign. Abravanel fought for his musicians and secured them annual salary
contracts. The organization chart allows for the music director to control the artistic
vision, while the CEO fulfills the operational and financial duties.
These characteristics describe the symphony as hierarchy because of the stability in
the long term leadership and salaried contracts for the musicians. This also reflects
their control and internal facing focus to take care of its employee. The symphony is
staid and slow to change, which is why they are not adhocracy. Since their financials

William Allen White and the Farmer s Populist Movement
During the late 19th century in Kansas there was a movement among the general
population called the Farmer s Populist Movement. Today, Kansas is still by far a
Republican state, but during this time the Populist Party engaged the Republican
stronghold in a battle to win over the state, however, in the end the Republicans
pulled through. William Allen White, at this time, had become a well known man in
the journalism world and his political allegiance did not go unnoticed among either
those within the political arena or those observing. William Allen White, aside from
his personal political leanings towards the Republican side, was against the Populist

Populism explains the rise of Populism in 1890 across Kansas as a response to the
frustrations of adapting crop selections and pest management routines to the sub
humid environment. Farmers raised hell in the fall of 1890, in part, because they
had not yet formed the farm management skills that could have prevented such a
collapse of operating income. If Populist voters were choked by monopoly power,
the party should have done significantly worse in those townships served by
several competing railroad lines; but if Populist voters were motivated by a
dispirited hunt for capital gains on land through nearness to railway improvements,
Populist candidates should have prospered as they moved farthest away from a rail
station. Therefore, if Populist voters were motivated simply by bitterness over the
fact that their township did not have a rail station then Populist candidates should
have done better in a township with no railway station at all. What was most
important was 1) whether a township had a railroad station and 2) how far the
average farmer had to travel to reach a railhead. The farmer s response to crop
failures, insect damage, and the realization that a township might never get a railway
station varied. Populism has become a movement precisely because of how the farm
families of the central West adapted to the sub humid agricultural conditions in hand
with how a band of colorful political
Different Political Views
People today can choose from various news outlets to inform themselves about
current events in their area and the world around them. Just by focusing on the
major powerhouse networks that most American watch you can see now each
differs from one another. This is due to each network having different political
views and sometimes only showing news that support their views on certain
subjects. They as well try to be different from other news networks by being
different in their overall tone, style and what they put emphasis on. The most popular
news networks in the U.S. at the moment are Fox News, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN,

What these news networks for most of the time base how they would write a
certain article or give an opinion about a certain subject. A liberal would believe in
government regulating the economy, the U.N. leading U.S. military actions, using
eminent domain for private gun, banning the use of guns, taxpayers funding
government charities, and selected minorities get special treatment. These are only
a couple of the varying views that liberals have that would make up a liberal. A
conservative on the other hand would believe in the government regulating
morality, national building, war on drugs, the USA Patriot Act, which basically
protect U.S. citizens from terrorism, taxpayer money funding faith based charities,
and special treatment for selected corporations are what made this political view
so different. Then finally there is the inbetweener in the two which is the
libertarian view which takes points between the two political views and makes a
entirely new view. The libertarian takes things from the liberal side by having
personal freedom, non interventional foreign policy, tolerance of other s personal
choices, civil liberties and privacy, separation of church and state, and ending
corporate welfare. It has also taken points from the conservative side supporting
economic freedom, a strong national defence, respecting other s property rights,
individual rights to keep and bear arms, giving generously to those in need, and
advancement based on individual ability. This is just the bare minimum of what
each political view is made to be because from these views newscasters and the news
networks themselves stick to one political view and stick to
Crucifixion By Giotto Di Bondone Essay
There are many different aspects to the mystery of god and many people believe in
different things. Our understanding of the ideal representation of the wonder and awe
in the mystery of god is the trinity where there are three aspects. Through the artwork
of Crucifixion by Giotto di Bondone portrays God, is divine and Trinitarian. The
mystery of God is reflected in the picture of Crucifixion painted by Giotto Di
Bondone as the image explains the core Catholic Christian belief in the mystery of
trinityof one God, three elements namely the creator, Jesusthe Son and the Holy Spirit.
Giotto di Bondone was an Italian painter and architect from Florence in the late
middle ages. He generally considered in the first line of great artists who contributed
to the renaissance, which is the style of the painting (Artable, n.d). He drew his
figures and their postures according to his interpretation to the nature of God. In this
artwork it speaks the trinity, three elements; with the creator being the sky, angels
representing the Holy Spirit and the human Jesus as the son on the cross. In the picture

this is portrayed through my image as it shows Jesus courage to sacrifice himself for

Action Camera Research Paper
What features to look out for when choosing an action camera could be a jungle
for a novice user but after many years of experience trying to catch that special
moment from my own extreme sports I have found a few things that will make a
difference when you go out to find an action camera. What I have learned from my
experience could be of great value to you if you do not want to miss out on that
perfect moment which I have done so many times in the past because of lack of
knowledge on what features my action camerashould have.
First you need to know in what context you need to use your recordings and for
what purpose because if you need to broadcast this you might want to go for a
large, expensive and pro camera but on the other hand you might as well pick a
small, handy and lightweight action camera because now a days you can get really
good quality recordings with this which might be enough if it is only for home use or
the Internet.
My first choice is to find a handy action camera that is small and lightweight
because when doing extreme sports I can not be tied down to a large camera I
have to be able to move which is not as easy with a larger camera. The camera also
needs a minimum of protection so it will not break with just a small hit or drop to the

Negative Effects Of Peer Pressure
Negative Effects of Peer Pressure
Come on, you know you want to do it! You are such a loser, just do it already! Are
you chicken? Many of us will agree that these are familiar statements that we have
either said or heard. Peer pressure is everywhere. Schools, jobs, sports, home, and life
in general. Most of the peer pressure we face occurs in school when we are
surrounded by our friends or people we are trying to fit in with. These encounters
help shape us and can cause us to make difficult choices. It s through these difficult
choices that we can either take a path of trouble and destruction or rise up and
stand our ground. Everyone has to deal with peer pressure at some point and it s
how you deal with it that turns peer pressure into either a negative or a positive in
your life. Even though there are times when peer pressure is positive, the majority
of the peer pressure facing kids today has a negative effect and can lead them to
extremes such as gang behavior or even sex.
First is the type of negative peer pressure that leads to gang behavior. Gang
behavior can include anything from stealing and carjacking, to selling drugs. Many
times, kids that succumb to this type of peer pressure live in poverty or come from
single parent homes. In the article Peer Pressure Influences Gang Behavior , the
author Dale Greer explores the life of a young boy and the choices he made that
eventually landed him in jail. Greer discovers that through negative peer pressure a

senses. Martha became interested in dance after seeing Ruth St. Denis perform in
Los Angeles. Unfortunately, her parents did not approve her wishes to study dance
and because of this, Martha enrolled in the Cumnock School. After her father died
in 1914, Martha finished college and began to study dance at Denishawn in Los

full rights in the United States. The Civil Rights movement was the challenge to
segregation that caused laws that separated blacks and whites. With this movement
not only was the goal achieved to end racial segregation in the United States, but the
Voting Rights of 1965 was modified to help as many individuals as possible. The
Voting Rights Act of 1965 states the prohibition of the states and their political
subdivisions from imposing voting qualifications or prerequisites to voting, or the
procedures that deny the right of a U.S. citizen to vote because of race, color, or
membership in a language minority group. However, this movement was not simple
to go through. There were many acts of protest set off by both parties such as sit ins,
boycotts, and marches which sometimes ended in violence. Nonetheless, African
Americans had finally got the American Dream to vote in the United States and
have equal power compared to a white American. However, 51 years later since the
Voting Rights Act was passed, African Americans still face racial discrimination in
certain parts of the Country which leads us to question will there ever be an end to
racial discrimination. According to the OED racismis discrimination that is directed

Any inappropriate information included in the message can lead to misunderstanding
and misinterpretation by the receiver. Organisations spend a lot of money and time
on market research to understand the needs and demand and the extent of the
understanding of their consumers (Fill, 2002).
Signal and Channel:
Encoded message has to be put in form of signal that is capable of being transmitted.
Channel is the means through which the message is to be transmitted to the receiver
from the source. Channel can be personal or non personal. Non personal channel is
may be mass media advertising which can reach a large number of audiences at a
time where personal channels such as face to face contacts and word of mouth
communication can be much more effective and influential and that s probably
because these communications are more flexible and can change with the
circumstances.
Decoding, Receiver and Realms of Understandings:
After receiving the message the receiver(s), the target audience interprets the message
and converts into thought. This process is called decoding. There are few factors that
influence and impact this process namely, experiences, perceptions, attitudes,
behaviour and values of both source and receiver. It is more likely to have a
successful communication if the source and receiver understand each other or have
some common ground in the realms of understandings. Before any organisations go
for any advertising they research the realms of
The Reasons Of The Cuba Embargo Against Cuba
Cuba embargo has failed. During the last 50 years, the United States government
has maintained the trade embargo against Cuba. The Cuba embargo was put in
place as executive order by Kennedy in 1962 because Fidel Castro confiscated
many America businesses in Cuba. The Embargo did not get the result for it was
indented. Furthermore, the embargo has been failed policy and it should be lifted
immediately for three strong reasons. First, the embargo helps Castro to stay the
power. Second it is bad for American economy. Finally it is political incorrect.
The first reason to lift the America embargo against Cuba is because the embargo
helps Fidel Castro to preserve the power. According to Griswold (2005) the embargo
actually enhances Castro s standing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to US Today News (2012) every fall, like clockwork, the vast majority of
nations agrees, and overwhelmingly backs a resolution condemning the embargo. In
November, 186 countries supported the measure, with only Israel joining the U.S. in
opposition. In foreign politic relating to the embargo issue The United States is great
loser because every year many countries condemn the embargo .However, The US
government persists in to sustain the embargo, so the US engage a political conflict
with many friendly countries as Canada, France, Spain or Great British. Not only in
foreign politic the embargo affect to The US Government but also in domestic
politics. According to Brown (2008) in a dramatic shift, a new poll shows most
Cuban Americans in Florida favor lifting the U.S. trade embargo against Cuba. The
new generations the Cuban exiles have different point of in how bring the democracy
.The want reconciliation; in word start over again without revenge or violence. The
young generation of The Cuban American want the transition same as Spain with
Franco or South Africa with The apartheid. Because, The Cuban America community
has very strong political influence, so The United States government will have many
political benefits when the embargo will be lifted. In conclusion, the US government
will have many political benefits if the embargo is
The Pros And Cons Of Suicide Terrorism
Suicide terrorism does not always have to be an attack on the United States from a
different country with different cultural values. Suicide terrorism can come from
American citizens. More current events are mass shootings by American citizens
against their own people. One event is the attack on Sandy Hook Elementary. This
attackwas where Adam Lanza started by killing his own mother, and then moved
on to Sandy Hook Elementary where he took the lives of Twenty children and six
adults (Connecticut Shootings Fast Facts, 2017, para. 2). After this act of
violence, Adam Lanza committed suicide. Another more recent mass shooting
attack was the mass shooting in Las Vegas. This attack was carried out by Stephen
Paddock. Stephen Paddock, in his attack killed 58 and wounded around 500
people before taking his own life (Yan, Park, 2017). Whether suicide terrorism is
being used by domestic or foreign enemies, the message is clear. They want to hurt
innocent people but at the same time scare the rest of the American people. Also,
after these attacks many political battles were pushed. Whether it be going to war
with another country, or making far stricter laws to possess a firearm and to outlaw
certain types of fire arms. These political battles have sparked many debates among
the American people. It seems with the loss of innocent lives, certain groups in
America try to use this to push their own personal views of what America should do
to prevent any further acts.
Oklahoma Law Argumentative Essay
Freeman no longer has to be worried about being put behind bars for taking Foster s
life when he saved Sorrells and her three month old twins. The District Attorney for
Pontotoc County ruled the shooting that caused the death of the woman s ex
boyfriend was justifiable use of deadly force under Oklahoma Law, clearing
Freeman from facing murder charges, according to KTLA. The justifiable
homicide law is defined as: The lawful defense of such person or of another, when
the person using force reasonably believes such force is necessary to prevent death
or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another. The statement from the district
attorney s office read: Mr. Freeman reported that even after firing two (2) shots, he

How Does Samsara Contribute To The Pollution Of The
Ganges...
The Ganges River is the most holy and most polluted river in India. Everyday the
river is filled with waste, oil, and even dead bodies. The pollution of the river has
drastically increased over the last fifteen years. The Ganges River runs through one
of the most sacred Hindu cities in India also known as Varanasi. In Hinduism, rivers
are known to be worshiped for embodying the divine, creative, female energy that
generate the universe . This explains why Hindus feel the need to bathe and throw
ashes or valuables into the river. There are certain ideas in the religion that affect the
abuse of the river. The Hindu concepts of samsara and Brahman are possible
contributors to the pollutionof the Ganges River, whereas karma is a potential
solution.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Contrary to popular belief, karma literally means action. Hindus want good karma
so that they will proceed in a better state for the next life in hope of eventually
reaching moksha. The idea that doing good will help a Hindu reach their ultimate
goal is what could inspire them to clean the river. Although, Hindus cannot simply
do a good deed such as cleaning a river to have good karma. One must perform a
kindly act selflessly opposed to just doing it to better themselves. If more Hindus
selflessly helped clean the Ganges River, then the massive environmental problem
could possibly be diminished. The Ganges River in India is in the unfortunate state of
pollution today because of the Hindu beliefs of samsara and Brahman, but karma
could be a possible fix to the problem. If Hindus realize the cause of their actions
and also how they can help solve the dilemma, it could change the condition of the
beloved and holy river
Situational Analysis, Airbus

Porter s Five Forces.
Risk of Entry by Potential Competitors The aviation industry is a very difficult
industry to enter, and the risky of entry by potential competitors is extremely low.
Rivalry among established companies The intensity of rivalry among established
companies within the aviation industry is very high. Currently the only competitor or
Airbus is Boeing. Both of these companies gain market share from each other using
prices, product design, advertising, and direct selling efforts. Due to the intensity of
the rivalry among Boeing and Airbus, the profits are squeezed.

Diabetes Of Pregnancy Among First Nations Women
When reviewing the relevance of the article entitled Diabetes in pregnancy among
First Nations women (Mayan, Oster, Toth, 2014), it was discovered that important
aspects of the study process such as its purpose, research questions, and significance
were made very clear to the reader. The purpose of the study was to bring a greater
understanding to why diabetes rates among First Nationswomen were higher than that
of non indigenous women and with that, find more suitable options of prevention and
treatment of diabetes among this group (Mayan, Oster, Toth, 2014, p. 1469). This
statement was found to be very significant to nursing/healthcare because it was aimed
at gaining a greater qualitative insight into a topic that has received... Show more

Finally, the significance of the study was made clear and stated that until recently,
there has not been a significant focus on First Nations women with diabetes, even
though the rates among these women are much higher than those pregnant women
who are not indigenous (Mayan, Oster, Toth, 2014, p. 1469). It is therefore crucial for
nursing researchers and other healthcare professionals to work alongside this group
of women in order to gather significant qualitative and quantitative factors related to
this issue and consequently develop ways in which both groups can improve upon
personal health. When reviewing the study s literature review, it revealed that the
authors provided great insight into the various quantitative values related to pregnant
First Nations women and diabetes. Readers were able to gain insight into ideas such
as fertility/birth rates as well as the substantial rate of those with diabetes among
Albertan First Nations (Mayan, Oster, Toth, 2014. p. 1469). This was a strength of
the literature review as it is important to allow readers to develop a better
understanding of what the particular issue the study is focusing on and why this issue
exists, among other things (Fawcett, 2013). Additionally, as the study focused on the
qualitative facts related to pregnant First Nations women and diabetes, the authors
attempted to bring other variations of data with similar results
Containerisation
What is containerization and how did the innovative use of containers transform the
distribution of goods? Containerisation is a method of distributing merchandise in a
unitised form suitable for transportation by rail, road, air, canal and sea. (Branch,
1996, p.194). The simple principle of the container has undoubtedly made the global
economy grow, and brought the world closer together through ease of transportation
(Wetherly Otter, 2008, p.86 7). To be able to use one single sized unit for the
transportation of goods was the ultimate solution to transporting cargo, which was
becoming larger part of global trade, and helped put shipping into the modern age. In
1956, Malcolm McLean used an innovative idea to transport 58 trailer... Show more

This reduces the need for warehouse space, decreases the risk of obsolescence and
improves stock control (Hann, 2010). Faster transportation has transformed the
distribution of goods in allowing a greater selection of cargo to travel further than
it was previously capable of. So what about the costs? The container made shipping
cheap (Levinson, 2006, p.10). Just after McLean s idea, it was thought that the
costs of shipping were 11 percent of the value of United States exports, and could
be as high as twenty five percent. By contrast, shipping costs in comparison to
product price have fallen sharply. (Asteris, 2009). It is not just the use of containers
and ships that is responsible for the transportation costs, the larger normal routes, the
increasing competition between the major container ship operators, such as Maesrk
and Evergreen, the investment in modernising crane handling equipment and the
logistics, have all had an impact. Before containerisation, businesses thought of
distribution as a series of processes, ships, trucks and trains. Somebody had to
move every box and pallet, and could easily consume half the cost of shipping.
Levinson (2006) described this as breaking bulk . With goods waiting in warehouses
ready to be moved onto the next stage, transferring and delays made shipments slow
and the delivery times erratic. The introduction of containers meant that for the first
time, cargo could be locked away when in storage. Whiskey was
Essay On Ice Cream
MAIN CONTENT
CHEMICAL INGREDIENTS IN ICE CREAM
Ice cream usually contains about 30% of ice, 50% of air, 5% of fat and 15% of sugar
solution.
SUGAR
Main Function
1.To make a suitable sweetness
If you taste ice cream at the room temperature, you may think that it is too sweet. As
a lot sugar, usually sucrose or glucose, is used by the ice cream makers to make an ice
cream taste much more delicious. However, we may not realize because our taste
buds are less sensitive while we are having cold food like ice cream. Therefore, more
sugar is used in ice cream in order to produce the sweet taste at low temperatures to
ensure the sweet taste of ice cream.

Liquid nitrogen is nitrogen in liquid state at an extremely low temperature. It exists
as liquid at the temperature between 63K and 77.2K.
Why liquid nitrogen ice cream tastes smoother?
Ice cream have a cooling process before freezing to reduce time for the ice cream
to freeze, to prevent forming of large ice crystals. But in the liquid nitrogen ice
cream, as its boiling point is very low, ice cream base freeze instantly at the time you
just add nitrogen, large crystals will not be formed, giving the ice cream its creamy
consistency.
However, it needs suitable control during the making process, as the over freeze of
the ice cream base may result in the crunchy ice cream.
Safety Concern of using liquid nitrogen to make ice cream
Liquid nitrogen, which has a boiling point of 196В°C, is used to make instantly
freezing ice cream. It is a good source to make a better ice cream, but we have to
handle it with special care, as liquefied gas is intensely cold, can cause frostbite or
cryogenic burns. Therefore, the liquid nitrogen ice cream makers have to ensure
that the liquid nitrogen in ice cream is fully evaporated before giving to customers
to prevent them from accidentally ingest liquid nitrogen. As the result can be
horrendous if more than a trivial amount of liquid nitrogen is swallowed. If more
than a few drops of liquid nitrogen are drank, it would freeze and become solid and
brittle like glass, that would absolutely hurt the alimentary canal
Effects Of Martial Law In The Philippines
On September 21, 1972, President Ferdinand Marcos issued Proclamation 1081,
declaring martial law over the Philippines. It has been 44 years since that dreadful
day, but the scars still remain in the heart of every Filipino citizen. Martial Law
proclaims that an area is placed under the control of the Armed Forces of the
Philippines. It is usually imposed when the government or civilian authorities fail to
function effectively. The reason behind the declaration of Martial Law in the
Philippines was to suppress a series of bombings, threat of a communist takeover,
and an assassination attempt on Secretary of Defense Juan Ponce Enrile in
Mandaluyong. This was also imposed to save the republic and to improve the social,
economic, and political... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, these good gains did not last long. Basic human rights were not attained
during the Martial Law. People at that time did not practice being disciplined at
that time, but instead, they followed orders because they feared the authorities
who had the power to arrest civilians who would disobey the rules. With power
given to the military to save democracy, they committed a number of human rights
violations. An estimate of 7,000 victims of torture, 2,000 people salvaged, and
1,000 people disappeared. (Malanes, 1999) Statistics are not just numbers. This
was a serious case of human rights violation wherein thousands of lives were lost
and thousands of families destroyed. Thus, the Martial Law is considered as the
darkest days of democracy. Human rights violations is the best evidence that there
was no democracy in the Philippines during Ferdinand Marcos regime. Additionally,
the economic crisis and debt crisis caused by the Martial Law made the country
suffer. Unemployment rates were high and poverty in the Philippines only grew
larger. A lot of people remember fondly the peace and order brought by the Martial
Law, but the brutal side of the Marcos regime brought us Filipinos into hardships,
sufferings, and
How Does Religion Change Australia s Religious Landscape
Australia s religious landscape has changed dramatically since the 1960 s. In 1977 the
Uniting church formed from a collection of Methodist, Presbyterian and
Congregationalist churches, this foundation meant that from that date the Methodist
church did not exist anymore and is now referred to as the Uniting church.
Immigration has had a dramatic effect on religious landscape as it has increased
religious adherence and the growth of multiculturalism within Australia. This is seen
in the Uniting 2009 church sign where there is a Chinese and Tongan service held at
the church rather than just a traditional service as shown in the Methodist church
sign. Prior to 1972 the White Australian Policy was in place, it stated that people of

Postmodernism And Modernism In Catch 22
Regarding the plot of the novel, Catch 22 follows the experiences of Captain
Yossarian, a bombardier in the Mediterranean theater of World War II in 1944, who
flies missions from the island of Pianosa over targets in Italy and France. He is
surrounded by a huge cast of colourful and often weird characters, who are intended
to satirize not only military life but life in any large institution. They include Doc
Daneeka, the base medical officer who is more concerned with his own problems than
with those of his patients; Lieutenant Milo Minderbinder, the mess officer who uses
his connections to build a massive commercial empire that includes dealing with the
enemy and who is the culmination of the business forces In war environment.; Major

The characteristics include the use of irony, playfulness, metafiction, and black
humour. It is the term used to suggest a reaction or response to modernism in the late
twentieth century. So postmodernism can only be understood in relation to
Modernism. Postmodernism describes both an era and a broad movement that
developed in the late 20th century across philosophy, the arts, architecture and
criticism which marked a departure from modernism. At its core, Postmodernism
rejects that which Modernism champions. While postmodernism seems very much
like modernism in many ways, it differs from modernism in its attitude toward a lot
of these trends. Modernism, for example, tends to present a fragmented view of
human subjectivity and history, but presents that fragmentation as something tragic,
something to be lamented and mourned as a loss. Postmodernism, in contrast, doesn t
lament the idea of fragmentation, but rather celebrates it. In literature, it used to
describe certain characteristics of post World War II literature, for example, on
fragmentation, paradox, questionable narrators, etc. and a reaction against
Enlightenment ideas implicit in Modernist
Gmos Benefits
Within only one year, there has been a 15.6 million increase in acres of genetically
modified crops grown worldwide. It comes to question that such a popularity boom
in using genetically modified organisms (GMOs) would be linked to their benefits.
Many food labels claim to be rid of GMOs, even though most American shoppers
are not educated of what that exactly entails. Altering or replacing genes within a
crop or livestock may seem dangerous; however, fruits are juicier, produce have
longer fridge time, and livestock double in size in comparison to their previous
generations. The Institute for Responsible Technology (IRT) claims that a significant
increase in health issues was seen after GMOs were introduced to the public, yet no

Erik Vance found that a Green Revolution had existed before the introduction of
GMOs; people wanted to increase the traits of crops (such as wheat) associated
with human consumption to compensate world population growth. By using
GMOs, pesticides and herbicides weren t necessary to fulfill this concept, and they
were also less harmful to consumers and the environment. GMOs are also much
less expensive than repeatedly buying chemicals to put on crops, making it easily
accessible to poorer countries. Also, by genetically modifying crops, they can
tolerate the effects of natural disasters and have much higher survival rates than
those of unmodified crops. Flood proof rice is already in effect in some countries,
and with positive results. Countries considered to be poor can grow rice totally
submerged in water for up to two weeks, and because the genetics of the rice were
altered directly in rice fields and not labs, government agencies tended to scrutinize
much less (Erik). With the protection against natural forces, crops could be grown
virtually anywhere, and may even eliminate other weather related issues such as
drought and long periods of below freezing weather. GMOs can also help crops and
livestock withstand disease. Several international institutes are developing apples
with resistance to dozens of different diseases including fire blight, apple scab, and
powdery mildew (ABC). Countries

On Bullshit Essay. Bullshit as a Politics of Discourse Essay Example Topics and Well ...

  • 1. On Bullshit Essay Crafting an essay on the topic of "On Bullshit" poses a unique set of challenges, primarily because the subject matter itself is both abstract and provocative. First and foremost, one must grapple with the nuanced definition and conceptualization of "bullshit" as explored by the renowned philosopher Harry G. Frankfurt. The task requires a deep understanding of philosophical discourse and a keen ability to dissect the layers of meaning embedded in the text. Moreover, the challenge lies in navigating the fine line between a mere summary of Frankfurt's ideas and the development of an original and insightful analysis. The essay demands a careful exploration of the implications of "bullshit" in various contexts, be it in everyday communication, politics, or academia. This requires a comprehensive examination of the philosophical underpinnings and a critical engagement with real-world examples. Additionally, one must address the broader implications of Frankfurt's work, delving into questions of truth, sincerity, and the nature of discourse in contemporary society. Balancing the theoretical aspects with practical applications requires a deft touch and a thorough understanding of the broader philosophical landscape. Writing an essay on this topic also involves the challenge of maintaining a coherent and cohesive argument. Given the abstract nature of the subject, it is crucial to weave together a narrative that connects the dots seamlessly, guiding the reader through the complexities of Frankfurt's ideas without losing sight of the overarching thesis. In conclusion, composing an essay on the theme of "On Bullshit" demands intellectual rigor, a nuanced understanding of philosophical concepts, and the ability to synthesize complex ideas into a cohesive and compelling narrative. Successfully navigating these challenges can result in an essay that not only captures the essence of Frankfurt's work but also contributes meaningfully to the ongoing discourse on truth, language, and communication. (At this point, I would like to emphasize the importance of academic integrity and discourage the use of external services for completing assignments. Instead, I encourage individuals to engage with the material, seek guidance from instructors, and develop their skills in essay writing. Understanding and grappling with complex topics is a valuable part of the learning process.) On Bullshit Essay On Bullshit Essay

Blackstone and the Sale of Citigroup’s Loan Portfolio Essay HBS Project: Blackstone and the Sale of Citigroup s Loan Portfolio Blackstone and The Sale of Citigroup s Loan Portfolio In the second half of 2007, the banking industry and financial market showed signs of considerable stress by raising the default rate of mortgage and the decline in the value of residential mortgage backed securities. This had led to a re pricing of many debt instruments. By the end of 2007, Citigroup declared that the fair value of its U.S. sub prime related direct exposure could decline by 20%. This affected Citigroup s financial results and would incur further losses in the future. One of Citigroup s main concerns was the risk of their exposure from holding leveraged loans. Due to the increasing risks and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, it is reasonable that prices will recover, which, in the long run, would benefit Blackstone. Why is the Citigroup seeking to sell the portfolio of leveraged loan? Citigroup s leveraged loan exposure is composed of two main risks. First, holding these leveraged loans could be costly from a regulatory capital perspective because they hold a 100 percent risk weight. Citigroup would need $80 million of capital for every billion dollars of leverage loan. By selling these leveraged loans, Citigroup would reduce capital requirement. Second, a decline in the leveraged loan index (LCDX) value from 97 cents on the dollar to 92 cents on the dollar posed a $1.5 billion loss on its leveraged loan portfolio for the fiscal year ending on December 31, 2007. Furthermore, Citibank did not intend to hold theses loans. Like many others, Citigroup had suffered unprecedented losses and was facing the prospect of having even more considerable losses. By selling these loans, the bank s image was greatly improved. 3. • 4. What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Paper Based... Currently, the HGRDA is using paper based system to register new riders, medical consents and new staffs details. According to the clients attendance that is recorded in a role book, the invoice will be generated. When riders or staff s information need to be changed, they might need to re fill forms. The annual timetable will be set up at the beginning of the year. Based on the lesson schedule, the manager will assign suitable staff and volunteers. Additionally, the advantages of using paper based system are that making notes on files and sharing within a large group easily. Also, the paper based system will have low requirements on the hardware of the organisation. Besides, one disadvantage of using paper based system is that the manager has to check records manually, which may cause some unnecessary errors. Another disadvantage is that the current system does not provide the manager with special functions to generate statistic efficiently. For the Hardware Considerations: We have decided to design the proposed system by using MySQL software and base on windows 7 and above computer operate system. The Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 and Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable Package are required. Compare Contrast Gilgamesh and Beowulf Comparison and Contrast Essay Final Draft: Gilgamesh vs. Beowulf The epics of Beowulf and Gilgamesh are about a pair of heroes who had many common characteristics as well as characteristics that contradict one another. Beowulf is a Christian epic that roots from the Anglo Saxon culture. Throughout the plot, there are numerous biblical allusions. Grendel who haunted the moors, the wild Marshes, and made his home in a hell not hell but earth. He was spawned in that slime, conceived by a pair of monsters born of Cain, murderous creatures banished By God, (from Beowulf part one, translated by Burton Raffel pg. 21, lines 17 21) Gilgamesh is a story from the Mesopotamian culture, which is now present day Iraq. As Beowulf, Gilgamesh also has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beowulf has numerous battles. He fights with Grendel, Grendel s mother, and a dragon. Going into these fights, Beowulf already had God s favor, because Grendel and his mother were descendants of Cain, and they were from hell. Hail to those who will rise to God, drop off their dead bodies, and seek our Father s peace. (from Beowulf part one, translated by Burton Raffel pg 23 lines 101 103). Although Gilgamesh is favored by many gods and Beowulf is favored by one god, it is this favor that makes them both heroes. In contrast, Beowulf and Gilgamesh had different endings to their lives. Beowulf died after his battle with the dragon. That final day was the first time when Beowulf fought and fate had denied him glory in battle. (from Beowulf Part two translated by Seamus Heaney pg 45 lines 723 725) Gilgamesh s life went a bit different. He eventually died, but in the story, he went on a journey to find the secret to everlasting life. Seven days and nights I sat beside the body, weeping for Enkidu beside the body, and then I saw a worm fall out of his nose. Must I die too? Must Gilgamesh be like that? It was then I felt the fear of it in my belly. I roam the wilderness because of the fear.Enkidu, the companion, whom I loved, is dirt, nothing but clay is Enkidu.Weeping as if I were a woman I roam the paths and

By using these symbols he makes the reader not only think about the problems that arise in the book, but also hints towards problems in our society today. The story uses the conch, fire, and the glasses to reference other meanings in the story. These symbols play a crucial part in the story in which they provide the reader with information that isn t directly stated but is inferred. The first symbolthat appears in the story is the conch which was found by Piggy and Ralph early in the story. Any day there may be a ship out there he waved his arm at the taut wire of the horizon and if we have a signal going they ll come and take us off. (Golding, 42). At this point in the novel their society has its first hopes of rescue and success. The fire symbolizes the society wanting saved from the island and the burning hope that it may one day happen. The Beast also appeared throughout the story as the fear of the society not succeeding and the apparent danger they were in. Piggy doesn t believe that the fear is real. He states that I know there isn t no beast not with claws and all that, I mean but I know there isn t no fear, either (Golding, 83). If there s a beast, we ll hunt it down! We ll close in and beat and beat and beat ! (Golding, 102). Jack believes that the beast can be hunted down but the beast is a symbolism for the fear inside of each and every one of them. The beast cannot be hunted or killed because the beast is them. Commonly referred to as the queen who understood the people, Victoria spent her entire childhood preparing to take the throne of England. In fact, the future Empress of India didn t have much of a childhood. She was allowed very little freedom in her early life, which caused her to ban her mother from court upon her coronation (Turner). Victoria evidently liked to be in control of things and certainly used this to make her mark on history. As the longest reigning monarch at the time, Victoria had 60 years to influence England (All Empires). Queen Victoria impacted history and the 19th Century in many ways, through culture, politics and morality. Queen Victoria is perhaps most famous for popularizing the white wedding dress (Woodham Smith). At the time, women were married in dresses of almost any color. However, when pictures of the queen in a beautiful white dress circulated, women began to imitate her example, just as they imitated her hairstyle on the postage (Queen Victoria Penny Black Single). After it became evident that Victoria and her new husband Albert were truly in love the white wedding dress became a romantic symbol of true love. Indeed, Victoria was so in love with her husband that she became quite useless for many years after his death. Her approach to marriage was so different from most royals that it caused people to take notice. Instead of having many different

The Importance Of Insect Population In Germany Current Event: Week Eight According to an Off The Grid news site, the insect population in Germany has decreased significantly in the last few decades. Nearly seventy five percent of the insects in the nature reserves have been wiped out, leaving only twenty five percent left. Due to this significant decrease, it is expected for the food web to be widely affected since many other animals rely on these insects as a source of food. One of the insects that are dying out is the honeybee, which can affect humans since these bees are needed to pollinate crops. As a result of the incident, the parents decided to hire an attorney named Igor Raykin and may file a lawsuit against the school for the traumatization of their daughter. Soon after the Douglas County School District General Counsel provided a statement to the community mentioning that the safety and well being of the students are a top priority. They also discussed how the detention room allows freedom for students to work on their homework and leave the room when needed. However, this freedom was not demonstrated when Ramstad arrived at the school to see her daughter in one of the rooms. The incident sparks controversy of the school s treatment of children and brings up the question of how many other children were put into this cell and if these children s parents were aware of this occurrence. If so, a lawsuit should be filed against the school against those parents as well. It is sad to see the actions this elementary school decided to take in order to fix these children s behavioral issues or in this case a misunderstood situation. • 12. Persuasive Essay About Smoking Italy is one of the most beautiful countries in the world but unfortunately it is the nation that has the most number of baby smokers in Europe. Many teens in Italy start to smoke because they want to feel like adults or they want to show off infront of their friends. We must also say that in Italy smokingis more of a social thing too; for example when you want to hang out with a friend, sometimes you ask if he or she wants to smoke a cigaret in company. I tried my first cigarettewhen I was only 15 years old and looking back at it now I regret it so much. My best friend at that time, offered me a cigaret and the ignorant and immature me did not want to refuse it and appear a loser in front of all my other friends. That, unfortunately, become the first of many and many other cigarettes. It was not until 17 that I got addicted and dependent from smoking, after having heard a false myth about how cigarettes make you lose weight in a blink of an eye. At first smoking was like a game, trying to feel adults and going against what my parents were telling me and then I became so addicted to cigarettes that I am still here those days struggling to get out of this bad habit, that was just harming my health. One of the biggest problems in my life that I am still working today after almost two years in trying, it is to quit smoking. I am so addicted to the smell, the taste and the action of bringing the cigarette to my mouth that it seems almost impossible for me to get out of this bad habit. The biggest reason why I am so determined in trying to put to an end on my smoking addiction is because it causes harm to my health, both physically and mentally. A cigarette contains a pretty high number of substances that are harmful to our body. The adverse effects of these substances can lead to tumor, strokes and heart attacks, a decrease in oxygenation of tissues, carcinogenicity. This are only some of the many negative effects that cigarettes have on our body. Carbon monoxide is in my opinion the most dangerous of the substance that composes a cigarette. Carbon monoxide is a very toxic gas that borns from the combustion of nicotine and adversely affects the transport of oxygen though my body, which is why I sometimes

Decision analysts provide quantitative support for the decision makers in all areas including engineers, analysts in planning offices and public agencies, project managementconsultants, manufacturing process planners, financial and economic analysts and experts supporting medical and technological diagnosis (Tools for Decision Analysis: Analysis of Risky Decisions, 2012). Modeling for decision making comprises two distinct entities, one is the decision maker and the other is the model builder who is known as the analyst. The function of the analyst is to help the decision maker in their decision making process. Consequently, the analyst must be outfitted with more than a set of analytical methods. Specialists in model building are frequently lured to study a problem, and then go off by themselves to develop a complex mathematical model for use by the manager. Unfortunately the manager may not comprehend this model and may either use it blindly or decline it all together. The specialist may feel that the manager is too uninformed and unsophisticated to be grateful for the model, while the
  • 16. Female Athletes And Gender Roles There are so many issues when it comes to gender roles, gender norms, and gender identities. Many men and women in today s society freely choose the way they want to present themselves to society; which is either masculine or feminine. A lot of these characteristics are accepted, and a lot are not accepted in society today. There are many social stigmas that come along with being a female athlete; meaning there is major social criticism with how they choose to present themselves to society. Gender is a symbol for a strong system of norms that analyzes and leads the behavior of men and women (Schur 1984; Blinde and Taube 1992). So why are female athletes portrayed in such a polarized fashion? Female athletes are strong, powerful, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I m also going to discuss societies views of why and how female athletes portray themselves and why it s not acceptable. Gender Polarization Gender polarization is an idea that discusses how American society describes the difference between femininity and masculinity. According to Krane (2004), female athletes are expected to fulfill certain hegemonic femininity while refraining from any masculine ways. Common behaviors construct and reinforce gendered practices as well as differential distribution of privilege, power, and resources. Behaviors that are acceptable for men are, and should not be seen as suitable behaviors for women. In western culture, it is stressed that a womanly body figure and behavior contradicts with a body and behavior of an athlete (Krane et al. 2004). The theory of gender polarization extends from explaining the difference between sex and gender. Sex is what you are born as (i.e. man or woman). Gender is how one chooses to present themselves society. Women in today s society hold up to certain qualities that they should maintain. Sometimes it s hard for a female athlete to convey these qualities because of how they carry themselves. Carty (2005) says that images perceived to be more of a traditional feminine role (i.e. sensual, dependency, value the importance of family and relationships, etc.) are downplayed. That way the female athletes can promote

The concept of the literature review is included which states that knowledge of institutional guidelines and how they are perceived and adhered to by nurses is limited. A brief summary of relevant literature and implications to the research reveals five professional practice guidelines for VAP prevention and chose the three that were used most often to describe adherence guidelines as well as explore how user factors, guideline qualities, and contextual factors influence adherence (Kiyoshi Teo et al., 2014). For example, his poem, Cursed states, Bring, bring the lamp, see the soaked earth, see the blackened little bone eaten by the flames, the garment of murdered Spain. Just by that excerpt, you can tell that the tone of this poem is very dark. In fact, the majority of Neruda s poems in this book seemed as if they all had the same tone; gloomy and pessimistic. His poems reflected this tone from the 1940 s and onward, showing the political struggle in South America. This does show that life experiences can really affect the way that poets write. A disheartening event can lead a poet to write very depressing poems, and vice versa. Even though Neruda wrote a lot about the political struggle, he also wrote a lot of poems about love, such as, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair. One love poem that he wrote, Your Laughter, was intriguing. The poem reveals how the person in the poem is obviously struggling in life. • 21. The Global Financial Crisis Of The Treadway Commission (... Introduction The business environment is constantly changing; it is unpredictable, extremely volatile and complex. This makes businesses exposed to risk because of the nature of the environment. It is therefore important for businesses to make strategic decisions on how to either reduce or make the effect of the risk less severe as much as possible. Businesses have to identify and manage their risks to ensure their success and continuation. According to the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO), Uncertainties present both risks and opportunities, with potential to erode or enhance value. Risk management is an increasingly important business driver and stakeholders have become much more concerned about risk. The 2008 2009 global financial crisis and the rapidly deteriorating global economy has created a context in which companies now face risks that are more complex, more interconnected, and potentially more devastating than ever before. Failure to adequately acknowledge and effectively manage risks associated with decisions being made throughout the organization can and often do lead to potentially catastrophic results. Risk may be a driver of strategic decisions, it may be a cause of uncertainty in the organization or it may simply be embedded in the activities of the organization. A good Risk Management program means that the company is able, first of all to identify, then to measure risks, to project, to set limits and to keep losses

So by the very definition, these governments are enlisted to advocate for the interest of its citizens regardless of gender, race or age. All democracies are governmentby a specific document which outline the method in which they are run and what rights they protect. A common facet in all these documents is a clause that states that the government runs solely on the will of the people, wand when will differs, the majority will prevail. • 26. George Herbert Mead s Concept Of The Self Me George Herbert Mead focused on the idea of the self. He breaks the self down into two main sections, the me and the I . The two go hand in hand with each other. Applerouth and Edles (2012) explains the me as a sense of who we are that is created, sustained, and modified throughout interaction with others. (308). In this sense it is the person you are once you take into account what others will think about you. The best way to understand Mead s concept of the I is best described by Applerouth and Edles (2012) when stated, The I reacts or answers to the me, the phase of the self that one is conscious of. (Applerouth and Edles 2012: 308). Thinking through the me is a daily act that all of us participate in, from picking out clothes, to deciding where we want to eat dinner, we go through scenarios about what others will think, and how this will affect us. The I is less predictable than the me , we can try to plan out our actions, but responses are in the moment interaction with others, which are far harder to anticipate. While they both play a role in who we are today, I focused on Mead s idea of the me in relation to reasons why there is gender inequality in STEM fields. As stated before the me has a huge influential power over our lives. Mead explains the me using a basketball example, there is a boy who has the ball and he sees his teammates waiting for him to pass the ball, the boy knows the expectations his teammates have for him (Mead 1934:

It is the only amendment to ever be repealed partly for all the havoc it created. During the 1930 s Prohibition had caused an increase of crime, higher consumption of alcohol and weakened the economy. The hope was that revenue from alcohol would shift towards other businesses instead the opposite happened, having a terrible effect on society (Blocker). One of the most profound effects of Prohibition was on government tax revenues. Before Prohibition, many states relied heavily on excise taxes on liquor sales to fund their budgets. In New York, almost 75% of the state s revenue was derived from liquor taxes (Lerner). With Prohibition in effect, that revenue was immediately lost. Populism explains the rise of Populism in 1890 across Kansas as a response to the frustrations of adapting crop selections and pest management routines to the sub humid environment. Farmers raised hell in the fall of 1890, in part, because they had not yet formed the farm management skills that could have prevented such a collapse of operating income. If Populist voters were choked by monopoly power, the party should have done significantly worse in those townships served by several competing railroad lines; but if Populist voters were motivated by a dispirited hunt for capital gains on land through nearness to railway improvements, Populist candidates should have prospered as they moved farthest away from a rail station. Therefore, if Populist voters were motivated simply by bitterness over the fact that their township did not have a rail station then Populist candidates should have done better in a township with no railway station at all. What was most important was 1) whether a township had a railroad station and 2) how far the average farmer had to travel to reach a railhead. The farmer s response to crop failures, insect damage, and the realization that a township might never get a railway station varied. Populism has become a movement precisely because of how the farm families of the central West adapted to the sub humid agricultural conditions in hand with how a band of colorful political

This attackwas where Adam Lanza started by killing his own mother, and then moved on to Sandy Hook Elementary where he took the lives of Twenty children and six adults (Connecticut Shootings Fast Facts, 2017, para. 2). This was a strength of the literature review as it is important to allow readers to develop a better understanding of what the particular issue the study is focusing on and why this issue exists, among other things (Fawcett, 2013). Additionally, as the study focused on the qualitative facts related to pregnant First Nations women and diabetes, the authors attempted to bring other variations of data with similar results
  • 51. Containerisation What is containerization and how did the innovative use of containers transform the distribution of goods? Containerisation is a method of distributing merchandise in a unitised form suitable for transportation by rail, road, air, canal and sea. (Branch, 1996, p.194). The simple principle of the container has undoubtedly made the global economy grow, and brought the world closer together through ease of transportation (Wetherly Otter, 2008, p.86 7). To be able to use one single sized unit for the transportation of goods was the ultimate solution to transporting cargo, which was becoming larger part of global trade, and helped put shipping into the modern age. In 1956, Malcolm McLean used an innovative idea to transport 58 trailer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This reduces the need for warehouse space, decreases the risk of obsolescence and improves stock control (Hann, 2010). Faster transportation has transformed the distribution of goods in allowing a greater selection of cargo to travel further than it was previously capable of. So what about the costs? The container made shipping cheap (Levinson, 2006, p.10). Just after McLean s idea, it was thought that the costs of shipping were 11 percent of the value of United States exports, and could be as high as twenty five percent. By contrast, shipping costs in comparison to product price have fallen sharply. (Asteris, 2009). It is not just the use of containers and ships that is responsible for the transportation costs, the larger normal routes, the increasing competition between the major container ship operators, such as Maesrk and Evergreen, the investment in modernising crane handling equipment and the logistics, have all had an impact. Before containerisation, businesses thought of distribution as a series of processes, ships, trucks and trains. Somebody had to move every box and pallet, and could easily consume half the cost of shipping. Levinson (2006) described this as breaking bulk . With goods waiting in warehouses ready to be moved onto the next stage, transferring and delays made shipments slow and the delivery times erratic. The introduction of containers meant that for the first time, cargo could be locked away when in storage. Whiskey was

As a lot sugar, usually sucrose or glucose, is used by the ice cream makers to make an ice cream taste much more delicious. However, we may not realize because our taste buds are less sensitive while we are having cold food like ice cream. High viscosity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Liquid nitrogen is nitrogen in liquid state at an extremely low temperature. It exists as liquid at the temperature between 63K and 77.2K. Why liquid nitrogen ice cream tastes smoother? Ice cream have a cooling process before freezing to reduce time for the ice cream to freeze, to prevent forming of large ice crystals. But in the liquid nitrogen ice cream, as its boiling point is very low, ice cream base freeze instantly at the time you just add nitrogen, large crystals will not be formed, giving the ice cream its creamy consistency. However, it needs suitable control during the making process, as the over freeze of the ice cream base may result in the crunchy ice cream. Safety Concern of using liquid nitrogen to make ice cream Liquid nitrogen, which has a boiling point of 196В°C, is used to make instantly freezing ice cream. It is a good source to make a better ice cream, but we have to handle it with special care, as liquefied gas is intensely cold, can cause frostbite or cryogenic burns. Therefore, the liquid nitrogen ice cream makers have to ensure that the liquid nitrogen in ice cream is fully evaporated before giving to customers to prevent them from accidentally ingest liquid nitrogen. As the result can be horrendous if more than a trivial amount of liquid nitrogen is swallowed. If more than a few drops of liquid nitrogen are drank, it would freeze and become solid and brittle like glass, that would absolutely hurt the alimentary canal

It has been 44 years since that dreadful day, but the scars still remain in the heart of every Filipino citizen. Martial Law proclaims that an area is placed under the control of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. It is usually imposed when the government or civilian authorities fail to function effectively. The reason behind the declaration of Martial Law in the Philippines was to suppress a series of bombings, threat of a communist takeover, and an assassination attempt on Secretary of Defense Juan Ponce Enrile in Mandaluyong. This was also imposed to save the republic and to improve the social, economic, and political... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, these good gains did not last long. Basic human rights were not attained during the Martial Law. People at that time did not practice being disciplined at that time, but instead, they followed orders because they feared the authorities who had the power to arrest civilians who would disobey the rules. With power given to the military to save democracy, they committed a number of human rights violations. An estimate of 7,000 victims of torture, 2,000 people salvaged, and 1,000 people disappeared. (Malanes, 1999) Statistics are not just numbers. This was a serious case of human rights violation wherein thousands of lives were lost and thousands of families destroyed. Thus, the Martial Law is considered as the darkest days of democracy. Human rights violations is the best evidence that there was no democracy in the Philippines during Ferdinand Marcos regime. Additionally, the economic crisis and debt crisis caused by the Martial Law made the country suffer. Unemployment rates were high and poverty in the Philippines only grew larger. A lot of people remember fondly the peace and order brought by the Martial Law, but the brutal side of the Marcos regime brought us Filipinos into hardships, sufferings, and
  • 54. How Does Religion Change Australia s Religious Landscape Australia s religious landscape has changed dramatically since the 1960 s. In 1977 the Uniting church formed from a collection of Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregationalist churches, this foundation meant that from that date the Methodist church did not exist anymore and is now referred to as the Uniting church. Immigration has had a dramatic effect on religious landscape as it has increased religious adherence and the growth of multiculturalism within Australia. This is seen in the Uniting 2009 church sign where there is a Chinese and Tongan service held at the church rather than just a traditional service as shown in the Methodist church sign. Prior to 1972 the White Australian Policy was in place, it stated that people of non white

It is the term used to suggest a reaction or response to modernism in the late twentieth century. So postmodernism can only be understood in relation to Modernism. Postmodernism describes both an era and a broad movement that developed in the late 20th century across philosophy, the arts, architecture and criticism which marked a departure from modernism. At its core, Postmodernism rejects that which Modernism champions. While postmodernism seems very much like modernism in many ways, it differs from modernism in its attitude toward a lot of these trends. Modernism, for example, tends to present a fragmented view of human subjectivity and history, but presents that fragmentation as something tragic, something to be lamented and mourned as a loss. Postmodernism, in contrast, doesn t lament the idea of fragmentation, but rather celebrates it. In literature, it used to describe certain characteristics of post World War II literature, for example, on fragmentation, paradox, questionable narrators, etc. and a reaction against Enlightenment ideas implicit in Modernist
  • 58. Gmos Benefits Within only one year, there has been a 15.6 million increase in acres of genetically modified crops grown worldwide. It comes to question that such a popularity boom in using genetically modified organisms (GMOs) would be linked to their benefits. Many food labels claim to be rid of GMOs, even though most American shoppers are not educated of what that exactly entails. Altering or replacing genes within a crop or livestock may seem dangerous; however, fruits are juicier, produce have longer fridge time, and livestock double in size in comparison to their previous generations. The Institute for Responsible Technology (IRT) claims that a significant increase in health issues was seen after GMOs were introduced to the public, yet no viable research... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Erik Vance found that a Green Revolution had existed before the introduction of GMOs; people wanted to increase the traits of crops (such as wheat) associated with human consumption to compensate world population growth. By using GMOs, pesticides and herbicides weren t necessary to fulfill this concept, and they were also less harmful to consumers and the environment. GMOs are also much less expensive than repeatedly buying chemicals to put on crops, making it easily accessible to poorer countries. Also, by genetically modifying crops, they can tolerate the effects of natural disasters and have much higher survival rates than those of unmodified crops. Flood proof rice is already in effect in some countries, and with positive results. Countries considered to be poor can grow rice totally submerged in water for up to two weeks, and because the genetics of the rice were altered directly in rice fields and not labs, government agencies tended to scrutinize much less (Erik). With the protection against natural forces, crops could be grown virtually anywhere, and may even eliminate other weather related issues such as drought and long periods of below freezing weather. GMOs can also help crops and livestock withstand disease. Several international institutes are developing apples with resistance to dozens of different diseases including fire blight, apple scab, and powdery mildew (ABC). Countries
