1. Comparison Essay Structure
Writing an essay on the topic of "Comparison Essay Structure" can be both challenging and
rewarding. The difficulty lies in the intricate process of comparing and contrasting two or more
subjects while maintaining a coherent and logical structure. Crafting a well-organized
comparison essay requires a thorough understanding of the chosen subjects, a keen analytical
mindset, and the ability to convey insights effectively.
The initial challenge arises from selecting suitable subjects for comparison. Whether it's
literature, history, science, or any other field, finding comparable elements that allow for
meaningful analysis requires careful consideration. Once the subjects are chosen, the task is to
delve into the details, extracting relevant information that will serve as the basis for the
comparison.
Structuring the essay adds another layer of complexity. A well-organized comparison essay
typically follows a clear introduction, body paragraphs focusing on specific points of
comparison, and a conclusion that synthesizes the key findings. Maintaining a balance between
discussing similarities and differences without sounding repetitive can be demanding. Each
paragraph must contribute to the overall coherence of the essay, guiding the reader through a
logical flow of ideas.
Furthermore, crafting insightful and meaningful comparisons requires analytical skills.
Identifying nuanced similarities and differences, and then articulating them in a way that adds
value to the reader's understanding, demands a higher level of critical thinking. It's not just about
listing features but about providing a deeper insight into the significance of those similarities and
differences.
Editing and revising the essay is yet another challenge. Ensuring that the essay is free from
grammatical errors, maintains a consistent tone, and effectively communicates the intended
message is a meticulous process that demands attention to detail.
In conclusion, writing a comparison essay on structure involves a multifaceted approach that
encompasses thoughtful subject selection, in-depth analysis, and skillful organization. While it
can be a challenging endeavor, the process offers a valuable opportunity for intellectual growth
and development. If you find the task overwhelming, there are resources available, such as
professional writing services like HelpWriting.net, where similar essays and more can be

4.1 Du Maurier s Literary Career
Daphne du Maurier, Lady Browning was born on May 13, 1907 in London . She
grew up in a literary and artistic domestic atmosphere. Her family and homeland
helped to establish her literary career. She was the granddaughter of the famous
artist and author George du Maurier, the daughter of Gerald Du Maurier, a brilliant
actor manager, and Muriel Beaumont, an actress, and the niece of an editor. 2
Moreover, J.M. Barrie, author of Peter Pan, and Edgar Wallace were both recurrent
visitors to their family.3

On one hand, she was an isolated and private person, who avoids complications, on
the other hand, she was also strong and has a self confident. Her two sides
characters are best explained in her novel Rebecca. She represents both, the
character of Rebecca who is brave, strong, and the character of Mrs. de Winter the
shy, isolated girl. Du Maurier was a very complex and interesting person. 8
Du Maurier had a long literary career started by her first novel The Loving Spirit
(1931), which depicted three generations of Cornish people. From the first novel Du
Maurier achieves a huge success, moreover it brought her the romantic concern of
Lieutenant Colonel Frederick Browning, who was impressed by the novel and travel
to meet the author of the book and then married Du Maurier in 1932. 9
Du Maurier s following novels, The Progress of Julius (1932), Jamaica Inn (1936),
and Rebecca (1938) increased her success rabidly. Rebecca, in particular, made Du
Maurier a brilliant name, especially after turning the novel into an Oscar winning
film starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine in 1940. 10 During the course of
her career, Du Maurier wrote many novels, short stories, and plays, including:
Frenchman s Creek (1941), Hungry Hill (1943), The Years Between (1945), The
Parasites (1949), My Cousin Rachel (1951), Mary Anne(1954), The Scapegoat
(1957), The Glass Blowers (1963), The Flight of the Falcon (1965), The House on
the Strand (1969), and
3. Salinger s Franny and Zoey Essay
Salinger s Franny and Zoey
It is the consensus of most critics that Seymour Glass is the most important
character and the leader of the Glass family. This is a point that is obvious from the
stories that Salinger has written about the Glass family. Seymour is looked up to and
revered by all the children in the family and is his mothers favorite, most intricately
calibrated, her kindest son (Franny 89). When catastrophe strikes in Franny and Zooey
, the only person Franny wants to talk to is Seymour. Why is Seymour the most
important person in the Glass family?
Seymour is the eldest child. Therefore, all will come after him. In a sense, nothing
new can be done after Seymour has done it. All that is left is to imitate and ... Show

Also, Buddy is a leader because he is naturally responsible and does what he is told.
The main difference between the children s reactions to the two is that of an equal
versus a parent. Buddy sounds like a parent but Seymour sounds like an equal.
Seymour is also the resident problem solver. We see the evidence of this in
Seymour when Buddy tells a story about his younger brother Waker. It was late on
the night of Walt and Waker s birthday when Seymour and Buddy came upon a
fight in the living room. Apparently the young Waker had given away his new
birthday present to a boy in the park. His parents were incensed that Waker had
given it away just because the boy had asked for it. When it becomes clear that the
argument will not be solved in this way, Seymour steps in and Buddy says ... and I
knew, from experience, that peace in our living room was about to be restored,
however miraculously (240).
The final reason why Seymour is considered the main character of the Glass family
narrative is that he continues to leave his mark on his family. As the eldest child
Seymour has affected everyone in his family. His suicide is their greatest tragedy. In
Franny and Zooey, we clearly see the evidence.
Throughout the bathroom scene between Zooey and Bessie, we see much of the
effects of Seymour s suicide on his mother. She was wearing her usual at home
vesture what her son Buddy... called
4. Reality of Sleep Paralysis Essay
The concept of sleep paralysis is not necessarily a concept, it is a reality. I have had
this occur to me numerous times for the better part of the past twenty years. What
makes this a concept is why and how it occurs. I do not believe it is not spoken of
enough, and I sincerely believe that more people would be interested in knowing what
exactly this condition is.
The conditon known as sleep paralysis is defined as the momentary inability to move
one s limbs, trunk and head despite being fully conscious. This can happen while
falling asleep (hypogogic sleep) or when waking up (hypnopompic sleep). In my
case, hypnopompic sleep is when I suufer this condition. Hypnopompic sleep is when

I did in fact fall back to sleep, and I didn t mention it to anyone, because for all I
knew, no one else had ever felt this.
While researching the topic of sleep paralysis I learned that it is not a new kind of
disorder, brought on by cell phones, smog, or global warming it has been around
for centuries. Sleep paralysis was once attributed to evil presences, and it was even
referred to as old hag in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. I learned that, in most
cases, it is simply a sign that a person s body is not moving smoothly through sleep
(http://www.webmd.com/sleep disorders/sleep paralysis). Most cases refers to
hypnogogic sleep, whereas it happens to me when I am coming out of REM sleep.
There is not at this moment a known cure for sleep paralysis, yet there are
symptoms that are attributed to causing it. I found in Scientific American that
factors include: going to sleep while lying on the back, and also when feeling
stressed or experiencing a disruption in normal sleep patterns (jet la attributed g,
caffeine, alcohol). I found on Stanford University s website that good sleep hygiene
may prevent sleep paralysis. These preventive measures include: getting enough
sleep, reduction of stress, exercise regularly (but not too close to bedtime), and also
keep a regular sleep schedule

6. Nationalism in a Multicultural Society
Nationalism is exclusionary by definition. In a well argued essay, compare the
positive and negative effects of nationalism within a multicultural or multiethnic
society. In your answer, discuss the problems that a multicultural society poses to the
formation of national identity and why you do or do not believe that nationalism is
compatible with the liberal state s emphasis upon individual rights and freedoms.
The Age of liberal democracy is also the Age of nationalism (Bernard Yack, 2003) .
Throughout history, the relationship between nationalism and the emergence and
proliferation of the liberal democratic state has been closely intertwined. Examples of
democratic states that rose in tandem with nationalism are the French ... Show more

He carried out genocide on the German Jews in order to create the perfect Aryan race.
Hitler successfully turned the Germans against each other based on anti Semitic
ideals. From this point of view, nationalism and the politics of ethnic cleansing
represent the dark side of democracy (Bernard Yack, 2003) . National identity
becomes horribly wrong, especially in multinational societies, when people
sometimes rank identities hierarchically, leading to the rejection of another nation as
inferior.
The modernist theories imply that until the beginning of the 19th century, almost no
one had more than local loyalties. National identity and unity were originally imposed
from above, by European states, because they were necessary to modernize the
economy and society. In this theory, nationalist conflicts are an unintended side
effect. For state theorists, pervasive loyalty or devotion to the polity is purposefully
encouraged through the allocation of services and privileges, with the state
adjudicating disputes to bolster unity (Bernard Yack, 2003) . Ernest Gellner, a
philosopher and social anthropologist, argued that nations are a by product of
industrialization. Modernization theorists regard the printing press and capitalism as
necessary conditions for nationalism. The greater the group nationalism, the greater
the group homogeneity of attitudes, beliefs, language spoken and ways of behaving,
the greater is the group cohesiveness. Partly as a result of

characteristics of these successions, we propose a sequence stratigraphic framework
for the Eocene Miocene carbonate deposits in Jamaica. Figure xxx show the

observed with the increasing amount of algal material and benthic foraminifera. SB 3
lies in grainstones in Blowfire 1 and is dated approximately 33 Ma. After this
boundary sedimentation starts with photozoans, but with the increasing sea levels,
algae and benthic foraminifera become abundant that shows a transition in the
carbonate factory, where MFS 3 is also observed. The deposits overlaying SB 3 start
with photozoans that are micrite dominated and continues with a transition to
heterozoans. In upper sections, sedimentation continues with algae and benthic
foraminifera dominated carbonates. Also, common dolomitization in this section
marks an unconformity as the characteristics of this dolomitization represents a
subaerial exposure after deposition of this stack of carbonates. SB 4 is located at the
bottom of Ecclesdown 1 and occurs in heterozoan packstones. This shows a type II

this boundary, a transition between carbonate factories is observed and in this
transition, photozoan and heterozoan species are present. During the sedimentation
of this stack of sediments, due to tectonic reasons a photozoan section that belongs to
shallowing is present; however, with MFS 4, deepening starts and heterozoan

8. Miss Havisham Metaphors
A metaphor is a figure of speech identifying something as being the same as some
other unrelated object. In this case, the technique is used in line 3 at the beginning
of the poem /so hard I ve dark green pebbles for eyes/. For the reader, this causes a
greater understanding of the context within the poem Havisham , demonstrating
how hard Miss Havisham had prayed for her unrequited love dead. The choice of
the poet s words, in the third line suggests that Miss Havisham has a deep hatred
towards the man. Such as pebbles which portrays the hardness in her feelings and
dark because of her malevolent thoughts of revenge. In addition to this, green out
of jealousy of the man as he has a happier life. As a result of this, the poem s tone is
influenced by the function of the technique, providing an unkind element. An
oxymoron is a figure of speech in which two opposite ideas join to create an effect.
In this poem, the technique is used in /Love s hate behind a white veil; a red
balloon bursting/, which is shown in a line break between lines 12 and 13. This
causes confusion for the reader as the words love and hate both have contrasting
meanings, as well... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This technique s purpose is to create emphasis. In this case, it is used in stanza 4 in
line 2 /Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun/. This is due to the fact that the
narrator s grief is so extreme that it affects the way he sees his surroundings. From
this technique, the poem provides a sense of the narrator s grief and sorrow, as
well as portraying visual imagery. The poet s words such as stars, moon and sun are
generally romantic and pure images. However for the narrator, his grief and sorrow
is too strong for him therefore does not want to see anything but his mourning
instead. As a consequence of this, the poem s tone is influenced by the hyperbole as
it creates an emphasis and a deeper understanding of the narrator s

The threat of radical Islam and the deadlock in the Washington conferences forced the
Rabin govt. to change the Israeli rejection to negotiate with the Palestine Liberation
Organization (PLO). Subsequently, secret negotiations talks initiated between the
Israel and the PLO, which were held in Oslo, Norway. On 13 September 1993, in

declaration both states mutually recognized each other. It stated that during the 5
year period Israel would withdraw its military from the Jericho and the Gaza Strip,
also with its additional withdrawals from unspecified areas of the west bank. The
declaration also stated the other key issues like territories to be surrendered by Israel,
the status of Jerusalem, water rights, nature of Palestinian entity to be created, the
refugee problem and the future of Israeli settlers were kept aside for the final status
talks.

At the point when Authors Tom Stanley and William Danko went to research on how
individuals get affluent, they discovered something odd. A considerable lot of the
general population who live in upscale neighborhoods and drive lavish autos don t

in upscale neighborhoods. The book gives experiences on what you can do to end up
distinctly well off and how wealth is not what you spend but rather what you amass.
The millionaires talked about in this book are monetarily free. They can live for quite
a long time without accepting one month s compensation check.
It is safe to say that you are pondering who gets to be distinctly rich in our general

the general population who get to be distinctly well off:

12. Human Pollination On Bees
Are we obligated to protect and secure the future of the bees? Humankind tends to
take for granted where our food comes from and do not think twice about it, let
alone the process of pollination. The manner in which we regard the bees not only
has an effect on us but, it also affects a multitude of species. However, we are able
to do our part to lessen our negative impact on the bees. If educating humankind
would alleviate suffering of many species such as bees, we would then be
obligated to save the them. Bees are some of the most feared insects on the planet
but aside from their sting they are quite a complex and beneficial creature. There
are over 20,000 species of bees on the planet (Spivak,2013). They are often
associated with honey however, they play a far more important role, they pollinate.
Bees are responsible for about 80 percent of pollination worldwide and a single
colony is able to pollinate upwards of 300 million flowers each day
(Greenpeace.org). Although there are ways for human pollination it is often a
painstaking and time consuming process. Studies have also shown that human
pollination is not as effective (Spivak, 2013)). With 90 percent of the worlds
nutrition dependent upon bees we need to support the bees with pollination
(Greenpeace.org). If we want to continue enjoying the many foods bees provide for

agriculture and encourage farmers to plant groundcover that bees use for

5. Groups including the Europeans thought it would be best for the United States to
colonize because they would be inputting their fair share . Britain and America
started to fight for independent. America ended up winning. Most of the Americans
don t like the idea of them colonizing like the other nations. Especially two groups of
Americans were outspoken in their support of imperialism. Imperialism is when you
extend your countries government and military, making it bigger and more powerful.
One group thought that the USA should fulfill their spot in this world. The
Europeans highly believed that they should colonize for these reasons. The other
group was made up of business interest and opened up new markets and trade
possibilities. In 1898 a war broke out, it was called the Spanish American War. In this
war America acquired the Philippine Islands, Puerto Rico, and Guam. When the
United Statesgained Philippine it touched off the topic of imperialism. President
McKinley was able to persuade a group of Methodists about his intentions about
educating Filipinos. The Filipinos on the other hand were not happy about
transferring one trade colonizer, that being the Spanish, for another that being the
Americans. Since the Philippine s accused the USA of saying that they would be
given independence directly after the Spanish American War, the USA had to plunge
a fierce struggle. In 1902 the USA defeated the Philippines and started to active

If the difference between the recorded times are more than 10%, add a third trial.
Repeat these steps with each size beaker. Calculate the average time for each
beaker and record the data. The next step of the lab exercise is determining the
exact volume of the beakers used in the burn time experiment. Fill a beaker to the
top with water. Carefully pour the water from the beaker into a graduated cylinder.
Reading the meniscus, record the exact volume into a data sheet. Repeat this step
with each size beaker until all volumes are recorded into the data sheet. The final
process of the Graphing and Estimating lab is plotting the recorded data onto a
graph. Using the data recorded for burn time, in seconds, place the data on the
vertical axis. Use the horizontal axis for the volume in milliliters. With the data points
plotted determine whether a straight line or a simple curve will best represent the
data. Now, obtain a jar and determine the volume. Fill the jar to the top with water.
Carefully pour the water into a graduated cylinder. Precisely record the data. Using
the plotted data on the graph and the simple curve or straight line to predict how
long it would take for the flame to burn out on the candle if it was covered with the
jar that was just measured.

Novel Ideas silent partners have numerous concerns with public officials calling
off layoffs including the hindrance of economic performance, an increase in
insolvency, and an inability to maximize company profits.. We realize that the
principal motive is to maximize profits. As investors in our company, we
understand why the silent partners tend to agree with the social responsibility
model of Milton Friedman. The silent partners, like Mr. Friedman, feel as if we
need to utilize our resources and engage in activities that diminish the economic
volatility our company is facing (Crawford, 9/20). A primary concern is to do
whatever it takes to maintain the company s solvency, while adhering and staying
within any legal boundaries. Another concern the silent partners may have is the
social responsiveness strategy that the officials from the local chamber of
commerce and local economic development group want us to utilize. The local
organizations want us to avoid layoffs, so the community can maintain economic
stability. However, we know that the silent partners are concerned that if we do not
fire one of the full time employees, we will not be maximizing our profits, and
again increasing the economic volatility of our business. As the silent partners have
mentioned, firing one of the full time employees would not be of concern as we
would save money, increase profits, and still maintain a satisfactory level of
customer service. However, many would categorize our strategy as

I chose this site because I found the title The Rise of the Islamic Feminists Muslim
women are fighting for their rights from within Islamic tradition, rather than against it
very intriguing. The fact that women are actually using their Islamic identity as a
tactic in their movements was something I wanted to learn more about. This article,
by Elizabeth Segran explores how many women faced inequality in the Islamic world
but started to acquire their power through the Qur an and their religion. The author
states For decades many women believed they had to choose between their Muslim
identity and their belief in gender equality so they made a global movement called
Musawah, which means equality (1). This movement is powered by the ideals that
Islam does not favor men as many have thought to be the case. However, because
patriarchy has had a strong stance in Muslim countries these females believe it is
due to the way they have interpreted and read Islamic texts. As we have learned in
this course so far, there are numerous ways to interpret Islamic texts. It just so
happens that gender has a great effect on how it is understood by individuals. Stated
in this article Islam does not mandate injustice (1) which can be related to Al

19. The Legal Status Of The Human Body
In our present bio medical age, with the advancement of technology, the legal
definitions of persons and property have begun to endanger what it means to be
classified as a human. From organ donation, to surrogacy, and the research done on
bodily fluids and tissues, the human body is slowly becoming the propertyof the state
rather than the property of the person. In order to combat this legal status there
needs to an expansion of the property rights of legal persons, which would have to
encompass their body, including all by products that the body produces. Michael
Sandel, a professor at Harvard, has identified two arguments surrounding the idea of
surrogacy that can also be applied to organ donationor other areas of medicine and...

In our society the process of selling and buying children, body parts and their by
products will always seem morally corrupt even if the law changes to support that
market.
These two arguments help to show the problem with the purchase and sale of
children in relation to surrogacy. Sandel argues that a pregnant mother cannot
voluntarily enter into a contract to give her unborn child away once birthed
because she is unlikely to be fully informed of all the consequences and details.
Sandel goes on to say that treating a child as a commodity degrades them because
they are now used as a form of profit. Based on Sandel s two arguments, when an
issue arises over the products or processes of a human body there can be no way in
which the transaction could take place in an entirely voluntary matter. One party
will always be at a disadvantage in one way or another and societal norms will not
allow for transactions, where there appears to be no disadvantage present, to take
place.
Sandel s arguments can be seen during the appeal trial of the famous Baby M case,
but in the initial trial, adjudicated by Justice Sorkow, the reasoning behind the
judgement takes the opposite approach of Sandel s arguments. Justice Sorkow based
his decision in the trial partially on the fact that the surrogate consciously chose to
have a child for another couple. Justice Sorkow reasons that the

23. Analysis Of Learning To Read By Malcolm X
Learning how to read is one of the most common processes in the world. For me,
learning how to read is the most useful ability that I have learned throughout my
entire life. For others, most people learn how to read though different languages in
different ways. For Malcolm X, he found reading to be appealing and devoted so
much time to it. Malcolm X recounts his personal history of learning to read and
how he finds reading to be the most important skill and influence everything in his
life. He retells his history of reading several books and dictionaries and how th
process slowly affected his life. He elaborates how reading increases a performance
and efficiency to heighten their potential. In Learning to Read, by Malcolm X, he...

He repeats the various books that he read and it shows the variety of what he read.
For example, he repeats the sentence with I and goes on to talk about reading about
the horrors of slavery (165). It is not directly claimed, but it can be inferred that what
he read had an effect on his goals in later life. This even further shows how using
repetition reiterates a thought and drives the thought into the reader s mind. The
extensive examples prove that Malcolm X uses repetition along with anecdotes to
remind the reader that the events in the story happened to him and not anyone else.
Although Malcolm X s repetition does a splendid job of conveying his message, the
strongest tools in his arsenal are his anecdotes, or short stories. Because the text is a
narrative, it tells mostly of real events in his life. He tells this narrative through
anecdotes about his time in prison reading countless books and texts. For example, he
recounts the time that he read the dictionary, reciting countless volumes of words just
to learn new things (162). This demonstrates that all of these event that he mentions
happen to him and were true. When Malcolm X uses this anecdote he is saying that a
simple dictionary furthered a man that would become one of the most prominent civil
rights activists. This further proves his point that learning to read is the most
important and influential ability

Architecture

Medieval Civilization Section 11

Abbot Suger of St. Denis and the Rise of Gothic Architecture Religion has always
been a part of our identity. Today, the population wander around the world seeing
these wonderful churches and religious buildings all around us. The architectural
style of the Middle Ages was very prominent: high stone vaults, internal elevations of
multiple stories, rounded arches, and thick walls. This was characterized as
Romanesque architecture. Suger revolutionized everything. He reworked these ideas
and introduced, to the world, what is now known as the Gothic architectural style.
Although Gothic architecture played a prominent role during the Renaissance, ...

People were criticizing the new building and was not very keen of the idea of
renovation. Suger still pushed for his project and fulfill his dreams to glorify the
church. He began to rebuilt the church in 1137. One of the reasons behind this
construction was that he was not contended with the dark and sinister style of
Romanesque architecture. He wanted the church to be an expression of modernity
and enlightenment. (Verdon and Dally 190 191). Suger considered it as modern
because it was not heavy looking and inspiring. His critics, including Bernard of
Clairvaux, called it Gothic because it was unrefined, barbaric and non Roman
(Bradbury 295). These criticisms were all wrong because it was completely renewed
and this symbolized the top achievement of the medieval civilization. However, they
were right that it was completely not Roman. This building represented the apex of
achievement because, after centuries of being under the influence of the Roman
empire, Suger gave birth to something new, something extravagant and
26. Managing Work Life Balance
The current economic situation has been blamed for causing income loss,
extended working hours and intense stress in workplaces all over the world. Due
to this today people are being challenged to strike a balance between work life and
family life. People are overwhelmed by the demanding careers, demanding families,
a slow economy and so on. This has left people with little time for what they need
and want to do.
Motivation refers to the desire, effort and passion to achieve something (Paul,
Hoang, 2007). In business terms it is often referred to as the willingness to complete
a task or job with enthusiasm. There are different motivators for every person. Some
people are motivated by fears. Others are motivated by rewards. Many ... Show more

In today s times people apart from money also look for time offs so that they can
spend their time with their family. Awarding them with holidays as rewards
provided work does not suffer is also a good way of reducing stress and motivating
people. Another really effective way for rewarding and motivating people at work is
to recognize them for any great achievements. A pat on the back goes a long way.
An immature manager/boss provides negative stress or distress which arises out of
unreasonable targets and deadlines which affects the health of the employees
adversely. According to Rensis Likert, (1967), these leaders are exploitative
autocratic who do not trust their employees and so order them to perform by putting
pressure of performance by using threat and punishments (Paul, Hoang, 2007).
Negative stress comes with a cost. It is estimated billions of pounds every year in lost
production in UK due to stress at work (ANI, 2008).
Managers who distress their employee fail to realize that with long working hours
and unrealistic goals employees in the organization are not only losing on their
standard of living but also their quality of life.
Another important way in which a manager can help employees cope with stress is
through work life balance. A 2001 study of women working in telecommunications
companies found that investment in work life balance was closely correlated with
higher retention
27. Billy Mitchell Research Paper
Considered an aviation pioneer by many, Billy Mitchell (1879 1936) recognized
the potential of air power as an integral part of national defense. His strong beliefs
led to a court martial for insubordination in the 1920s. The key role played by air
defense during the Second World War II vindicated him. William ( Billy ) Mitchell
was born in Nice, France, on December 28, 1879. He was the eldest of ten children
born to John Lendrum Mitchell, who came from a politically active Wisconsin
family, and Harriet Mitchell. When Mitchell was three years old, the family
returned to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Growing up in Milwaukee, Mitchell spoke
French just as fluently as English. He and his siblings also learned German,
Spanish, and Italian. In The Billy Mitchell Affair, biographer Burke Davis noted
that Mitchell was small, wiry, and utterly fearless. His nanny spent a good deal of
her time trying to control him. When he was told not to climb the family
greenhouse, Mitchell attempted to scale it on an almost daily basis. He also
enjoyed guns and horses. Mitchell s father was elected to Congress in 1891 and to
the Senate in 1893. Important guests were often invited to the Mitchell home and, as
Davis noted, There was an air of freedom in the household which encouraged the
young Mitchells to grow up in their own way. The children... Show more content on

many messages that can be related to various readers. It is very straightforward going
through the life of the narrator as he faces the challenges of life and experiences the
consequences that result from them. It is written in a way that it can be reached to
many audiences with different personalities. In this poem, the anonymous author uses
foreshadowing, personification, and situational ironyto suggest that the standards of
life can changewith age and time. It begins with the promise that is shared, but is
never kept. It all starts when the sonin the story is faced with the difficult task of
choosing his life career. His parents have personal thoughts and feelings on the
inside, but on the outside, they tell their son that he can be whatever he chooses to
be in life. In the end, he decides to be a photographer, but that s when his parents
reveal their true feelings about everything. The narrator argues, Look! I became
what I pleased I tell them/ But what of us? They tell me/ I will take care of you, I
reply ( Poem of Standards 9 11). At an early age , the narrator decides his path for
life, not knowing how much it will change. Still, his family is concerned with how he
is handling everything. They are worried not only about his future, but about their
own futures as well. His assurance is not convincing enough for them, and after he

Before the eighth century, England was a pagan society, the English originated from
a society marred in idolatry and polytheism. The intermingling of Christian and pagan
elements in Beowulf are consistent with the attitudes toward religion that are found
in Bede s Ecclesiastical History of the English People. Beowulf was written in the
Middle Ages (500 1000) on Scandinavia, which was a highly pagan society, however
the narrator is telling this story within the timeframe of medieval Anglo Saxon
Britain, which was undergoing Christianization. Hence, within the author s structure

It was under kingship of Ethelbert that the English first converted to Christianity in
Bede. Letters from Pope Gregory King Ethelbert highlight the problem of idol
worship that persisted in the English society during their first conversion to
Christianity. Even those who converted to Christianity such as king Redwald often
got apostatize(d) back by their societies, as most people were still ingrained in
paganism. For Redwald, it was wife who led him back into pagan practice. After
his reversion to pagan practice Redwald tried to serve both Christ and the ancient
gods, and he had in the same shrine an altar for the holy sacrifice of Christ side by
side with a small altar on which victims were offered to devils. It is such
amalgamation of practices that illustrates the intermingling of Christian and pagan
elements in both the sources. Areas such as the East Saxons and Essex often lapsed
back into paganism. For instance, the East Saxons appostized under king Sigbert and
reconverted to Christianity by the preaching of Cedd. Another example is that of the
Northumbrians who returned to paganism in 634 C.E after the death of king Edwin.
This reversion to paganism was evident in Beowulf when Grendel terrorized the
Danes, who resultantly turned back to idol worship even though they acknowledge
the existence of the Christian God and his power of creation in a song they sang about

The district court ruled against Mr. Comerford s claim that the evidence brought

U.S., Kyllo v. U.S, and Katz v. U.S. will be used to suggest to the Court that
Comerford had no reasonable expectation of privacy in his evening drug runs, and
Smith v. Maryland will be used to prove that there is no expectation of privacy
regarding the phone numbers dialed. Together, these two cases prove that the

All tracking of Comerford carried out by the federal agents could have been
completed using visual surveillance from public areas without The Chum, making
his claim of privacy invalid. Comerford claims that the evidence seized from his
car and home was the fruit of an unreasonable search, and could not be held against
him in court. However, Comerford is really only arguing against efficiency of the
law enforcement since the same tracking results are achievable through visual
surveillance. In United States v. Knotts, Justice Rehnquist states, Insofar as
respondent s complaint appears to be simply that scientific devices such as the
beeper enabled the police to be more effective in detecting crime, it simply has no
constitutional foundation. We have never equated police efficiency with
unconstitutionality, and we decline to do so now . 460 U.S. 1, 3 (1983). Mr.

31. Types Of Anesthesia As A Patient
What is anesthesiology? Breaking this word down will help define it, that way it is
easier to understand. In medical terms, the word anesthesiology is constructed of
three different words, each having a specific definition: an is defined as being
without, or the absence ; esthesia means feeling ; and ology is defined as the study
of. So when these three words are constructed together it is defined as the study of the
absence of feeling. Knowing that definition of anesthesiology is one thing, but there
are other things that must be known, such as the different types of anesthesia. There
are several types of anesthesia. The form of anesthesia a patient will receive will be
determined by the medical state and the surgical procedure the patient will undergo.
Along with anesthetics, a patient may receive a sedative administered by the
anesthesiologist. The three main forms of anesthesia include: local anesthesia;
regional anesthesia; and general anesthesia.
Local anesthesia is used when a patient is undergoing a minimally invasive
procedure like a port placement, or some carpal injections. The most common
forms of local anesthesia are: infiltration anesthesia; nerve blocks; haematoma
blocks; intravenous regional block; and extradural and spinal anesthesia. These
procedures are relatively quick and rarely take longer than a few minutes. It is used
on a select area of the body to briefly stop the sense of pain. A benefit of local

In order to get the proper tools, you need to first fully understand yourself and

33. The Prospect Theory, A Behavioral Economic Theory
Prospect theory is a Behavioural Economics Theory which tries to understand how
people take decisions in terms of two alternatives, which have a probabilistic nature.
These decision making processes and their respective outcomes also involve risk. An
important point of the Prospect Theory is that it considers the fact that the outcomes
of the alternatives are known. The basic idea behind the theory is that people base
their decisions on potential gains and losses, rather than thinking about the final
outcome. The theory is of the idea that people make such decisions about gains and
losses with the help of heuristics. The theory has been very critical in its application
as it tries to bring forth a model which is much more realistic in nature,... Show more

In the equation, xi refers to the total number of possible outcomes and pi shows the
probability of those respective outcomes. In the equation w is referred to as the
weighing function for the probabilities which therefore shows that people tend to
overreact to certain situations of smaller probability as compared to larger
probabilities.
MAJOR FEATURES
1) The coefficients of values are just gains and losses which are not to be confused
with final wealth. 2) The model is able to represent greater sensitivity towards losses
as compared to gains.
3) The function is convex for losses that would occur out of the possible outcomes
and concave for any sort of gain.
4) Weighing function helps to overweigh smaller probabilities.
APPLICATIONS OF PROSPECT THEORY
Barberis (2013) paper is a review of the applications of Prospect Theory. As some
argue that the Prospect Theory only works well under a laboratory setting, the

well made to be directly applied. The paper is able to trace down the various
advancements that have come up in terms of Prospect

A specific subset of recycled aggregates is recycled concrete aggregates (RCA)
where the masonry content is limited to not more than five per cent. The
performance characteristics of RCA are better than RA and consequently there are
fewer restrictions on the use of RCA in concrete (BS 8500 2)
According to a 2004 FHWA study, 38 states recycle concreteas an aggregate base; 11
recycle it into new Portland cement concrete. The states that do use recycled concrete
aggregate (RCA) in new concrete report that concrete with RCA performs equal to
concrete with natural aggregates
It is now predominantly accepted that there is a significant potential for reclaiming
and recycling demolished debris for use in value added applications to increase
economic and environmental benefits. As a direct result of this, recycling
industries in many part of the world, including South Africa, at present converts
low value waste into secondary construction materials such as a variety of
aggregate grades, road materials and aggregate fines. Mostly these materials are
used in as road construction, backfill for retaining walls, low grade concrete
production, drainage and brickwork and block work for low cost housing (M C

The recycled pavement has been designed for a traffic loading of 35 million

39. An Analysis Of The Mumps-Measles-Rubella Vaccines
In 1998, a British doctor named Andrew Wakefield published an article stating that
the MMR (Mumps Measles Rubella) vaccine was linked to autism in young children.
Later several different studies were performed to test Mr.Wakefeild s research and
Asthepreponderanceofevidencefromaroundtheworld has accumulated showing no
relationship between MMR vaccineand autism (Miller and Reynolds 169).Though
disproved this claim caused mass hysteria making parents question vaccinating their
children and leading some to choose against it. Today, there are thousands of children
in the United States whose parents have chosen to not have vaccinated. These
unprotected children are the result of their parent s fear of vaccinations and their side
effects. Due... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vaccines have been credited the annihilation of one major disease smallpox, and
though this was a life saving accomplishment there are still many dangerous diseases
out there. Diseases such as whooping cough and measles are still being fought today
kept alive by those who are not protected via vaccination against them. Even with
vaccines Whooping cough still causes approximately 8,000 (Vaccines and
Immunizations) deaths annually in the United States and measles one of the most
contagious diseases ever known and is an important cause of death and disability
among young children worldwide (Measles and Rubella). These disease are still
very much alive and can be deadly to those who do not take precautions against
them. Though the people involved in this anti vaccine movement try to play down
the danger of the disease that people are vaccinated for it is very dangerous to sit
back and ignore the threat in front of you that can very easily affect those your love
or you directly.
Though a fear of vaccination can be sometimes understood it is not justified,
sometimes we have to take risk for the sake of everyone. Vaccination does have
some risk but it is still a necessity to protect not only our families but families
everywhere, it has saved countless lives and will save countless more we cannot let

America s Sweetheart
According to the Official Website of Amelia Earhart, Amelia Earhart has been
quoted as saying, Never interrupt someone doing something you said couldn t be
done. The woman who was an inspiration to all, and whose disappearance is still one
of America s greatest mysteries. She flew her way into the hearts of many by
traveling over the Atlantic Ocean twice (Shore). Earhart has broken plenty more than
four aviation records (Shore). She also had an impeccable sense of determination,
and she did what she felt would benefit her and the one s she cared about, no matter
the status quo. The first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, Amelia Earhart

The power and will it takes not to let that kind of fame go to one s head is
tremendous, but somehow, she managed. Earhart still refused to take any credit
for her flight in the Friendship (Shore). She frequently helped people in need and
would contribute to charity often (Shore). Even when times got tough, she refused
to give up hope for what she believed in. According to Bio.com, Earhart ... became
the 16th woman to be issued a pilot s license. In a time when it was uncommon for
women to even have jobs, Earhart stuck to what she believed and did what she
wanted to do. Amelia also had big aspirations and ideas. In 1929, Amelia Earhart
helped form a women s flight group called the Ninety Nines ( Ninety Nines Inc. ).
After its formation, she became president in 1931 ( Ninety Nines Inc. ). She also
planned an around the world flight ( Bio.com ). This flight was her most daring, and

Influence of Colonization Politics on Modern Field work...
Hell bent on expansion, the British Empire insisted on the exhaustive domination of
one people over another, and in doing so, fostered hatred and friction between
cultures in the late nineteenth/early twentieth centuries. Cultural friction has presented
a large disruption in the anthropological relationship between observer and participant
in historical fieldwork, and moreover, the bulk of social and cultural anthropological
field work has been done in colonial settings (Cohn, 1). The colonization politics of
the British Empire instilled severe prejudices among people and frustrated
anthropological encounters of this time and still chase after our conceptions of
anthropology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Empire s unrelenting appetite for wealth ignored personal experience; it
rendered white men biased and broken, even as each man struggled to retain self
integrity. Angry feelings of displacement and violence were ...normal by products
of imperialism... for Orwell and other envoys of the British Empire in India
(Orwell, 2). Forced compromises between a man s integrity and the Empire s
fabricated realities birthed racism and prejudice. Orwell was ...stuck between [his]
hatred of the empire [he] served and [his] rage against the evil spirited little beasts
who tried to make [his] job impossible (Orwell, 2). In supporting the needs of the
Empire, Orwell fed the hatred between European culture and that of India. Thousands
of Indians burned against him and people of his skin color. Wrought from greed, the
mindset of the superior white man poisoned the entire Empire. Enter an
anthropologist into this den of contempt.
Prejudice is indeed a powerful poison in anthropology. When respectful understanding
between cultures is replaced with ideas of ethnic hierarchy, truth is distorted, as
evidenced in Gould s Mismeasure of Man. Furthermore; societies built on unjust
domination refuse to yield to progressive change. Even scientists, figures traditionally
obedient to objective truth and study, bend over backwards to sustain the tenants of
racism.
Fruitful encounters between observers and participants are impossible when

Bridge Building Project
By Maryum Sheikh Hi, my name is Maryum and the bridges that I researched about
are the Golden Gate Bridge, the Batman Bridge, the Auckland Harbor Bridge, the
Bixby Creek Bridge, and the Quebec Bridge.
First, I would like to tell you about the Golden Gate Bridge. I m pretty sure many of
you may know about this bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge and
was built in San Francisco, California in 1937. The Golden Gate Bridge spans or
crosses the Golden Gate strait which is a mile wide and 3 miles long. The weight of
the roadway is hung from 2 cables that pass through two main towers and are fixed in
concrete at each end. Each cable is made of 27,572 strands of wire. There are 80,000
miles of wire in the main cables. These cables help support the bridge because of the
big distance. The bridge also has approximately 1,200,000 total rivets. So my opinion
about the bridge is that it is a very well made bridge and it also has a very good
design.
The second bridge I will be talking about is the Batman Bridge. The Batman Bridge
is a cable stay bridge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Quebec Bridge is a cantilever bridge with the structure of a riveted steel truss.
The Quebec Bridge was built in Quebec City in Canada in 1917. The Quebec
Bridge spans or crosses the Saint Lawrence River. The Quebec Bridge failed twice
and the cost was of 88 lives. The bridge was successfully made in 1917 after the 2
attempts. The Quebec Bridge is 987 m long, 29 m wide, and 104 m high. The
cantilever arms are 177 m long and support a 195 m central structure, for a total
span of 549 m the Quebec Bridge is still the longest cantilever bridge span in the
world. It was the all categories longest span in the world until the Ambassador
Bridge was completed in 1929. It is the easternmost complete crossing of the Saint
Lawrence River. My opinion about the Quebec Bridge is that it is very well made
bridge and is pretty
44. The Benefits Of Hiking And Trekking
Why should you use hiking poles? Is the primary question that you ask yourself,
especially when you are a beginner in hiking. Before you get the right answer for
this question you need to consider two things and that is Safety and Comfort. Hiking
poles are just balancing sticks which help you maintain good balance that is closely
related to your overall safety and comfort. When you use two polesyou move as you
have four legs which allow you better comfort and safety. Hikingexperts say that
using hiking poles makes you switch to a 4x4 driving mode, by using your two legs
and two hands.
As far as safety is concerned, a pair of hiking poles helps you prevent frequent fall
downs on uncertain tracks, avoiding aches in ankle or knee or even back; ... Show

You must use hiking poles especially when you are on your first hike. And, I think
next time you will yourself carry these sticks with you by seeing their countless
benefits.
Thousands of people who have already used (or still using!) hiking poles for years
could not be wrong and this is the reason that poles are considered the traditional way
to move on uncertain tracks while maintaining good stability. Although, hiking poles
have countless benefits but below given are some significant benefits which enforce
us to use them every time we go on hiking and trekking:
Safety Safety is the main reason of using hiking poles. Hiking poles allow your
extra pair of legs to maintain stability on uncertain trails and when crossing fast
streams or difficult terrains. Without having hiking poles you may fall down that
may end up in injuries and accidents, and if you don t fall even then ache in knees
or ankles is a common mishappening you may face. When you have hiking poles
with you, they keep you safe by preventing fall downs, bad steps which may cause of
sprained ankle or knee.
Indeed, safety and convenience are the main reasons for using these hiking and
trekking poles. Let s see some other benefits/advantages of using

Abstract
This paper is a response to the First Phase Companies Ordinance Rewrite

action (the CDA) currently retained by sec. 168BC (4) in the amended Companies
Ordinance (2004).

Because the company is a separate legal entity, if something wrong is done to the
company, only the company itself can sue and that is the so called Proper Plaintiff
Rule.
The effect of this rule is to eliminate vexatious litigation by troublesome minority
shareholders. However, the rule was also criticized by many researchers. If the
directors of the company do something wrong, they will of course not have the
incentive to make the company bring law suits against themselves. Therefore the
minority shareholders cannot have the rights to get the wrongdoers to pay remedies
to the company and it is to some extent unfair.
Due to this reason, later, four exceptions to the rule were established to try to solve
this problem. It is held that the Proper Plaintiff Rule will not apply if the relevant
transaction О»is ultra vires or illegal; О»requires the sanction of a special majority;
46. О»infringes the personal rights of a shareholder; or О»amounts to a fraud on the
minority.
1.3 The Common Law Derivative Action
The exceptions to the Proper Plaintiff Rule in Foss v Harbottle allow the minority
shareholders under some limited conditions to sue on behalf of the company. The
common law derivative action (the CDA) is applied based on these exceptions.
There are two basic requirements for applying the CDA: The alleged wrong or
breach of duty cannot be ratified by a simple majority of the members; The alleged
wrongdoers are in control of the company,
47. Grignard Reaction Lab Report
Discussion The Grignard reaction involves the use of a Grignard agent, or an
organomagnesium halide, to an aldehyde or a ketone to form either a secondary or
tertiary alcohol, respectively. Using this reaction with formaldehyde leads to a
primary alcohol. Grignard reagents can also be used in important reactions such as
in the addition of an excess of a Grignard reagent to an ester to give a tertiary alcohol
so that the two alkyl groups are symmetrical. Grignard reagents are formed though the
interaction of magnesiummetal with alkyl or alkenyl halides. They are extremely
good nucleophiles, reacting with electrophiles such as carbonyl compounds, like
aldehydes, esters, carbon dioxide, ketones, etc., and epoxides. Grignard reagents are

The Grignard reagent can be made through adding the halogenolkane to small pieces
of magnesium in a flask that contains diethyl ether. The lone pair electrons from two
ether molecules form a complex with the magnesium in the Grignard reagent to
stabilize the organometallic compound in order to increase the reagents ability to
react. The mixture in the flask was warmed over a water bath for 30 minutes after the
flask has been fitted to a reflux condenser. Everything should have remained dry with
minimal exposure to air because Grignard reagents react with water. If this happens,
the final results can be contaminated. The Grignard reactions cannot be classified as
nucleophilic substitutions, even though the reactions are clearly substitution
reactions. The functional carbon atom was reduced, resulting in the polarity of
functional group being inverted; an electrophilic carbon became a nucleophilic
carbon. This resulted in the alkyl halide and the Grignard reagents being excellent
nucleophiles. The basic reaction of the Grignard reaction involves the nucleophilic
attack of the carbanionic carbon in the organometallic reagent to the electrophilic
carbon in the carbonyl to form

Lecturer Date: 2016 03 17 Abstract The impact of the clearance thickness proportion
on the hole flanging procedure was researched to decide the event of pressing. A 2
mm thick 1000 series aluminum alloy sheet was considered. An elastic plastic limited
component model utilizing remeshing alternative was created. Tests were directed to
confirm the dependability of the created limited component model. A critical
clearance thickness proportion which is a farthest point between two states of hole
flanging was discovered: hole flanging with edge extending and hole flanging with
pressing in which the metal is crushed between the punch and the bite the dust. The
impact of the hole flanging condition on the punch stack, the shaping kinematics, the
spine geometry and the exhausting quality was contemplated. The limited component

Catherine was born March 25, 1347, as the 23rd child of Jacopo and Lapa
Benincasa. She grew up as a cheerful, intelligent and intensely religious person.
When she was 6, she had a vision of Christ at the Siena San Dominic Church. By
the age of 7, she had a vow of chastity to never get married. Catherine cut off her
hair in order to protest against her mother in order to improve her appearance to
attract a husband. Her father supported her and gave her a room in order to pray
and mediate in peace. She joined the Dominican Third Order at 18 and spent three
years in prayer, austerity and seclusion. She died in April 29, 1380 St Catherine of

50. Garden Of The Forking Paths Analysis
In the story The Garden Of Forking Paths by Jorges Luis Borges takes the basic
aspects of the spy thriller, plays with them to create a spy thriller that doesn t
follow the rules of the genre exactly. One example of this is in most spy thrillers,
the protagonist is portrayed as nearly superhuman, and invulnerable, while in
Garden Of The Forking Paths the main character is arrested and killed at the end of
the story. Another aspect of the spy thriller that Borges distorts is the motivation for
the spy to continue his duties. Instead of doing it out of love for his country, he does
it out of spite and wanting to prove himself. The third way Borges twists the standard
spy thriller is instead of working to prevent an enemy, Dr, Yu Tsun is

In standard spy thrillers the main character will complete the task out of love for
there country and protection of its citizens. In The Garden Of Forking Paths Dr.
Tsun holds no love for Germany, as he is not even a native German and is looked
down upon by many of the Germans he works will. Because of this his drive to
complete his mission is based out of spite for his commanding general and a need
to prove himself. I care nothing for a barbarous country which imposed upon me
the abjection of being a spy. Besides, I know of a man from England a modest man
who for me is no less great than Goethe. I talked with him for scarcely an hour, but
during that hour he was Goethe... I did it because I felt the Chief somehow feared
people of my race for the innumerable ancestors who merge within me. I wanted to
prove to him that a yellow man could save his armies. (1) While compared to the
normal spy, who has pride in the side he is fighting for, Dr. Tsun hates the people
he is fighting for, but also has a need to prove to them he is worthy. This also casts
mystery over the character, because he never explains why he is working for the
Germans, only that he was forced into the position by something out of his control,
further distancing him from the normal spy character and showing his weakness. The
third aspect of the story that strays from the normal spy
