The document discusses OmegaGuard, a fish oil supplement from Shaklee. It summarizes that OmegaGuard delivers a full spectrum of ultra-pure omega-3 fatty acids, including EPA and DHA, which over 4,500 studies have shown to support heart, brain, and joint health. It undergoes a proprietary multi-step process to remove contaminants and maximize purity. Taking 2-3 softgels per day with meals can help reduce heart disease risk factors and maintain overall health and wellness.
Omega−3 fatty acids, also called Omega-3
oils, ω−3 fatty acids or n−3 fatty acids,
are polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs)
characterized by the presence of a double
bond three atoms away from the terminal
methyl group in their chemical structure.
They are widely distributed in nature, being
important constituents of animal lipid
metabolism, and they play an important
role in the human diet and in human
physiology.

Omega 3,6 & 9 Fatty AcidsOmega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are PUFAs and omega-9 fatty acids are usually MUFAs. The omega numbers simply reference how many carbons away from the methyl end of the fatty acid chain that the first carbon-carbon double bond appears. If the double bond is three carbons away, it's called an omega-3 fatty acid.,

Few years ago my father, who was CVD patient, passed away due to heart attack. He was only 61. Same thing happened with my mom in law. She was just 57. Then recently some distant relatives were affected by CVD/CAD. Many people are aware of this disease but I feel that they just live with it. Some do take precautions to avoid but may be it is not enough. I decided to learn more about this and learn how one can take precautions. This is a vast subject hence the presentation I put together is just a beginning of scratching the surface. Lot of information is available on the right websites and books. I refer to one such book.

Veganism is on the rise due to growing concerns about the environment and perceived health benefits. However, certain nutrients such as EPA & DHA are difficult to obtain from plant-based diets. Until recently, the only supplemental source of long-chain omega-3s was fish oil. Igennus has recently launched a vegan omega-3 product which combines algae-sourced EPA & DHA with the additional benefit of astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant.
In this hour-long webinar, Dr Danielle Crida discusses:
- The importance of omega-3s and the omega 6:3 ratio
- Vegan options for omega-3 supplementation
- Our new Vegan Omega-3 & Astaxanthin product
- How to assess omega-3 requirements and measure response to supplementation
- Ensuring optimal nutrition on a plant-based diet: common nutrient deficiencies and how to address them

New Directions in Targeted Therapeutic Approaches for Older Adults With Mantl...i3 Health
i3 Health is pleased to make the speaker slides from this activity available for use as a non-accredited self-study or teaching resource.
This slide deck presented by Dr. Kami Maddocks, Professor-Clinical in the Division of Hematology and
Associate Division Director for Ambulatory Operations
The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.
Target Audience
Hematology/oncology fellows, attending faculty, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL).
Learning Objectives
1.) Identify clinical and biological prognostic factors that can guide treatment decision making for older adults with MCL
2.) Evaluate emerging data on targeted therapeutic approaches for treatment-naive and relapsed/refractory MCL and their applicability to older adults
3.) Assess mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies for MCL and their implications for treatment selection

Ethanol (CH3CH2OH), or beverage alcohol, is a two-carbon alcohol
that is rapidly distributed in the body and brain. Ethanol alters many
neurochemical systems and has rewarding and addictive properties. It
is the oldest recreational drug and likely contributes to more morbidity,
mortality, and public health costs than all illicit drugs combined. The
5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM-5) integrates alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence into a single
disorder called alcohol use disorder (AUD), with mild, moderate,
and severe subclassifications (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
In the DSM-5, all types of substance abuse and dependence have been
combined into a single substance use disorder (SUD) on a continuum
from mild to severe. A diagnosis of AUD requires that at least two of
the 11 DSM-5 behaviors be present within a 12-month period (mild
AUD: 2–3 criteria; moderate AUD: 4–5 criteria; severe AUD: 6–11 criteria).
The four main behavioral effects of AUD are impaired control over
drinking, negative social consequences, risky use, and altered physiological
effects (tolerance, withdrawal). This chapter presents an overview
of the prevalence and harmful consequences of AUD in the U.S.,
the systemic nature of the disease, neurocircuitry and stages of AUD,
comorbidities, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, genetic risk factors, and
pharmacotherapies for AUD.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and the American
Heart Association (AHA), heart disease—specifically coronary
artery disease—is still the number one cause of death of men and
women in the United States. And while it was once considered
a man’s disease, today more women than men die from heart
disease. And unfortunately, at least 100 million Americans have
one or more risk factors for heart disease.
To reduce the risk of heart disease, the AHA recommends eating
two servings of fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids each week. But
most Americans eat fish only three times per month or less.
Moreover, there are growing concerns about unsafe levels of
contaminants such as mercury and lead that are now commonly
found in many fish.
• Over 4,500 research studies on omega-3 fatty acids’ effects on
overall health have been conducted in the last 25 years.
• The average American intake of EPA and DHA is only 0.1
to 0.2 g/day, even though the American Heart Association
recommends at least two fish meals per week to provide an
intake of about 0.3 to 0.5 g/day of EPA and DHA.
• Most American diets provide more than ten times as much
omega-6 than omega-3 fatty acids, even though there is
general scientific agreement that individuals should consume
more omega-3 and less omega-6 fatty acids to promote good
health.
• Research shows that high levels of omega-3 fatty acids
promote cardiovascular health and help retain normal blood
pressure and triglyceride levels.*
• According to the AHA, certain types of fish may contain high
levels of mercury, PCBs, dioxins, and other environmental
contaminants. Generally, older and larger fish contain higher
levels of contaminants.
