Observational Essay Examples
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Observational Essay Examples" can be both challenging and
intriguing. The difficulty arises from the need to seamlessly blend descriptive narrative with
insightful observations. It requires keen attention to detail and the ability to convey a vivid
picture of the observed subject to the reader. The challenge lies not only in describing what you
see but also in interpreting and analyzing the significance of those observations.
To create a compelling observational essay, one must possess strong observational skills and an
understanding of how to articulate those observations effectively. It involves selecting the right
details, using vivid language, and weaving a coherent narrative that captures the essence of the
observed subject. Moreover, striking the right balance between objectivity and personal
reflection adds another layer of complexity.
The difficulty intensifies as the writer must navigate through the intricacies of transforming raw
observations into a cohesive and engaging essay. It demands a careful selection of words, a keen
sense of pacing, and the ability to draw the reader into the experience. Additionally, the challenge
extends to avoiding clichГ©s and ensuring that the essay remains fresh and original.
Despite the difficulty, writing an observational essay on this topic can be a rewarding
experience. It allows the writer to explore their own perceptions, challenge assumptions, and
present a unique perspective on the world around them. The process of observation and
reflection can be enlightening, leading to a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on "Observational Essay Examples" requires a combination of
observational prowess, linguistic finesse, and the ability to weave a compelling narrative. While
challenging, the process offers an opportunity for personal growth and a unique exploration of
the observed world.

Designing A Sales Subsidiary Structure
In the organizational context, I recommend Winch It to adopt Sales subsidiary
structure . I judged that it was the most appropriate stages to dive in among the four
stages of internationalization considering the company s situation and attitude. In the
staffing context, I recommend Winch It to take the ethnocentric approach in the
staffing context and the balance sheet approach in international compensation.
Finally, in international performance management, I listed several issues need to be
concerned and suggested adopt not TCN role conception but PCN role conception .
Introduction The main object of this portfolio is to provide the board with useful
advice for Winch It to develop an international business. Since they are uncertain of
what type of organizational structure they would build for international operations
and what country to expand, I reflected the board s demand and explanation of the
company s current situation mostly than other variables to compose my
recommendations. The organizational context I would like to recommend Winch It to
adopt Sales subsidiary structure . Typically, initial stage for manufacturing firms
entering international operations is exporting. Therefore, theoretically the optimal
organizational structure for Winch it which has no experience of in establishing any
form of oversea operation is Export department structure . However, I would like to
take a more realistic approach than this. The board is confident that Winch It

Dichlorodiphenylrichloroethane Research Paper
The atomic bomb of pesticides, the toxic compound you may or may not consider
on a day to day basis. What is this compound? It is Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane,
otherwise known as DDT, which is its abbreviation. This white and odorless
compound, consisting of benzene, chlorine, and alcohol , was banned in the June
of 1972. The use of DDT was forbidden due to its immense risk to the life of the
human race, flora and fauna (plants and animals), and most importantly, the world.
The long hearings that occurred prior to the ban helped to lead to the prevention of
terrible and nearly irreversible damage from the seemingly helpful insecticide.
Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) is an extremely powerful contact
insecticide that has a high toxicity. It can be swallowed or pass in through the
epidermis, also known as the skin. Some characteristics of the compound are that it
is odorless and colorless, usually found in a crystalline powder form. It is not water
soluble, but is fat soluble, which allows for it to accumulate inside of the tissues....

The shells would become so thin that when a bird sat on them, they d break,
hampering multiplication of the species. Even 4 decades after the ban, it is
making a negative impact on the eggs of condors . But birds are not the only
animals affected by DDT, for there were many more. The animals that DDT is
most toxic to are fish. It is so harmful to fish that it is extremely difficult to study.
In actuality, DDT grows less toxic within hotter water temperatures, which means
that tropical fish are not as loomed over by the dangerous shadow of DDT as much
as other fish. Sadly, since it is insoluble to water it wreaks havoc on the fish
population. The insecticide manages to find its way to a body of water by being
carried by runoff. It rarely can find its way into groundwater, and usually stays on the
top of the soil. With that being said, our next subject is approached: its
A Memoir Of The Senses By Isabel Allende
If you like cooking, food, sex and humor then you will most definitely enjoy The
Epicure s Lament by Kate Christianson and Aphrodite: A Memoir of the Senses by
Isabel Allende. I enjoyed both books for the most part. More so Epicure s Lament
than Aphrodite: A Memoir of the Senses. Here s my breakdown of both books and
how they differ and how they are similar. To start off both authors are women.
Although after reading both novels, both authors don t seem very similar to me.
Christianson comes off to me as more edgy and loose. And although her books
extremely sexual, I think Allende s is older, maybe middle age. The reason I think
that is when I read this bookI picture her as an older cougar who knows just what she
wants. I like Christianson better. She reminds me of myself and I think she would
be a lot of fun to hang out with. To be fair though I ve only read just these two
books by the authors. I do plan to read more of Christianson s work though.
I absolutely love Greek mythology. I actually took a Greek mythology class at
Tidewater Community College. So when I found out we had to read Aphrodite, I
was extremely excited. Aphrodite is supposed to be the goddess of love, desire and
beauty. But this book is not about Greek mythology. Although it does remind me
Aphrodite with all the sexual stories and pictures. If there was a Greek goddess that
had to do with food and sex that would of been perfect for this book.
Allende s book is supposed to be a memoir but it s more of
Analysis Of The Pigman
The Pigman written by Paul Zindel is based on two teenagers lives, it shows both
of their perspectives throughout the book. The genre of this book is young adult
fiction, which is targeted for teenagers. The Pigman was published in 1968, when
Paul was only 32 years old. The book went on to win a total of eight awards, being
Paul s second book to win any awards. There are many characters mentioned
throughout the book, but the most important ones are John Conlan, Lorraine
Jensen and Angelo Pignati. John and Lorraine find themselves to be bored often,
they wish to find excitement, in search of that they meet Angelo Pignati. John
Conlan comes from a family where there are many problems, his dad was an
alcoholic but stopped drinking because he was diagnosed with an illness. John
started drinking when he was younger, his dad would put on a show with John
drinking when he was younger. John aspires to be an actor but his father doesn t
seem to think its idealistic. Lorraine moved into Johns neighborhood at the start of
her freshman year with her mother. Her mother made Lorraine become insecure
with all of the comments she makes towards her like you re not pretty causing
Lorraine to be self conscious. Lorraine likes to read and one day wants to be a writer.
Angelo or The Pigmanis a older man who lives by himself and is often quite lonely
due to his wife dying. He likes to believe that one day his wife will come back from

Inflation Essay
Global economy has been changing significantly in past several decades which has
been affected by the goods and services in the national borders leading to the
movement of the country up and down in the international system economically. The
economy of the country is strictly hit by two important factors that are: deflation and
inflation. Deflation can be defined as the decrease in the price of the goods or
services provided. In the other hand, inflation can be defined as the increase in the
price of the goods and services. It is observed that the deflation increases the power of
purchasing and increase the value for the money whereas the inflation cause the
decrease in the economic power. Inflation plays the vital role for the fluctuation of the
economy in the country that directly affects the economy of the world. It actually
affects the various macroeconomics and microeconomics factor of the economy
leading to various consequences. The most important consequences is unemployment.
The phenomenon of inflation has been described in three different views: a)
general view, b) Keynesian view and c) modern view. According to the general
view it has been described as the increase in the price of goods and services but
decrease in the value of the money. According to Keynes, it is the states when there
is increase in the goods and prices as well as increase in the employment. The
inflation is caused due to the increase in the expenditure that causing the shortage of
the goods and
Supply Chain Management Of Supply Chains
Introduction
With the acceleration of global economic integration, the 21st century has become the
century of competition in the supply chain, not just a simple competition between
enterprises. In order to win the competition in the supply chain, which means it must
be through the management of the supply chain. Currently supply chains become
more integrated, more global, the high speed development of information technology
has become an important driving force. In this report will explore the development of
supply chain management technologies and important role.
Supply chain and technologies role
Supply chain is the logistic network among suppliers, manufacturing centers,
warehouses, distribution centers, retail and customers. It is about the flow and
inventory of raw materials, manufactured goods and fished goods. The core logistics
supply chain management is to satisfy customer needs. In order to meet requirements
it is necessary to minimize enterprises operating cost. It can make enterprises more
competitive, and is the key point of success supply chain management. However due
to the supply chain simultaneously connect suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and
even customers, is a complex network, each link have hidden many risks, is easily
affect the supply chain companies. Therefore, the use of the necessary control
measures to ensure the smooth operation of the supply chain become preconditions to
earn profit.
In order to achieve a success supply chain must to be
Soft Tissue Repair Case Study
Soft Tissue Repair Case Study: The Four Phase of Soft Tissue Healing and
Therapeutic Interventions that can be used to Aid Progression of Repair.
In this essay we will discuss the four different phases of the soft tissue healing process
and also explain all the components of each particular phase and how it functions.
This will also include sport therapeutic interventions that may contribute to the
healing process and that may maximise healing of soft tissue.
First Phase Bleeding
This particular phase is immediate and depending on the vascularity of the tissue that
is damaged although it only happens during the first few hours as demonstrated by
(Watson, 2006) in this illustration of the length of each phase.
The bleeding occurs following trauma to the tissue this could be an overload of a
tissue or even external force. One of the bodies first initial haemodynamic responses
to bleeding is vasoconstriction which narrows the blood vessels causing decreased
blood velocity, in 2008 (Watson) states that this is due to the release of
noradrenaline(norepinephrine); the reaction last lasts only a few seconds to a
minute. It is also explained by (Terkeltaub Ginsberg, 1988) that both lymphatic and
blood vessels are plugged to limit any fluid loss and platelet, aggregation is
stimulated by the presence of thrombin. Vasoconstriction responds primarily to
haemostasis which is a response to prevent blood loss and a platelet plug is formed
to support the prevention of excessive
Social Vulnerability In Emergency Management
When a disaster hits an area it does not discriminate on where it hits or who is
affected. When it comes to effective emergency management it is important that
managers take into account certain preimpact conditions in order to properly prepare,
mitigate, respond and recover from a disaster regardless of the magnitude. One
preimpact condition that is important to consider is the Social Vulnerability. Social
vulnerability is important because it assesses the resilience of communities and how
disasters or external stressors can impact them (Lindell et al, 2006, pg. 153). It is
important for emergency personnel to understand the social vulnerability of a
community in order to alleviate the amount of human suffering and economic loss
that can occur post disaster. In order to determine an areas social vulnerability the
Emergency Managementuses a system known as the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI)
for disaster management. The SVI take into account socioeconomic status, household
composition and disability, minority status and language as well as housing and...

SVI also aids Emergency Managers in the response and recovery because based on
the known variables, they are able to plan, train and prepare for the disaster and
identify the communities that are vulnerable and provide the proper assistance. SVI
also effectively aids recovery measures as it identifies the specific areas that will need
continued support long after the
Allusions In The Crucible
You were supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them! You were supposed to bring
balance to the force, not leave it in darkness! This is what Obi Wan screamed at
Anakin before leaving him to burn almost to death on Mustafar. While this accusation
makes sense from a Jedi point of view, from the Buddhist point of view, it is entirely
unfounded. The Jedi, through their millennia of non virtuous actions, earned the non
virtuous actions that happened to them. In fact, Anakin was just used as the
instrument of karma in Revenge of the Sith. The Jedi are held up on a pedestal
throughout the entire saga, but they are not perfect heroes. Just during the course of
the movie, the Jedi lied and committed divisive speech, both of which are principle
verbal non virtues. There are many times that they lie, not only amongst themselves,
but also to the Chancellor and the Senate. Their biggest lies were in their omissions
of information about their inability to access the force as easily, and when they told
Anakin to lie to the Chancellor and spy on him. While the Chancellor is the
antagonist of the film, that doesn t change the fact that when the Jedi forced Anakin
to spy on his beloved friend, they were committing a non virtuous act. They were
willing to commit these non virtues because they had grown... Show more content on

The bad things that happened to the Jedi order were the results of their millennia of
non virtuous acts. The Jedi, throughout their many years of power, committed almost
every single non virtue, and did many of them with the wrong views and with a
harmful intent due to their arrogance. So Anakin was just an instrument of karma
that actually cleansed the bad karma that the Jedi had built up. In that way, he
fulfilled the prophecy, bringing balance to the force by balancing the karma of the
Jedi. Therefore, the true blame for the destruction of the Jedi lies with the Jedi, not
Flaws Of Evolutionism
Creationist believe that God created everything. It is founded on the belief that the
universe was created by the supernatural act of the Creator. The first passage of the
Bible in Genesis 1:1 states that, In the beginning God created the heaven and the
earth. All through Genesis 1, we read statements that show us that the Creator spoke
everything into existence. Also, in Psalm 33:6 the Bible tells us, By the word of the
Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by then breath of his mouth.
For he spake, and it was done. he commanded, and it stood fast. Evolutionist believe
in a molecule to man process that stems from organisms evolving over long periods
of time. There are several different beliefs that evolutionist hold... Show more content

Intelligent scientists felt that if they could reproduce life in a laboratory, then they
would prove that no intelligence was needed to create life in the beginning. A
scientist named Stanley Miller set out to prove this in a famous experiment in
1953. Miller took a mixture of gasses (ammonia, hydrogen, methane, and water
vapor) which he presumed might have composed the Earth s atmosphere millions
of years ago, and passed an electric current through them. This produced a mixture
of amino acids, although not the correct kind of amino acids need to support life.
However, there are several problems with this experiment. First off, Miller had no
proof that the gasses he used ever actually composed the earth s atmosphere. He
was also very careful to make sure that there was no oxygen present during his
experiment. Oxygen is a poisonous gas, and thus if it was present in the
atmosphere, the amino acids would not have formed. However, if oxygen were
NOT present, then the ozone layer would not have existed, and the ultraviolet
radiation from the sun would have destroyed the amino acids as soon as they were
formed. In addition to this, much like a human hand, there are two kinds, or
handedness, of amino acids. Human hands are the same in all respects except for
handedness, where one hand is a mirror image of the other. The same is true of
My First Day
Summer was great with the hot and steamy days, where you felt you could be
surrounded by water for hours, but school was a week away. My first day of middle
school was very close. That year I wanted to break out of my shell a little bit and
meet new people, although I was always more of an introvert. I had gone to the
school, I would see for a couple of years and had received my schedule. I now knew
who my teachers were going to be, relieved, but worried I would be alone. The
morning of my first day of school was fresh with a nice soft breeze. When I entered
the gate I saw my friends dressed in their new clothes and quickly walked to them.
We asked each other what our classes were, and fortunately, a couple of us had
classes together. One... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Isabella was very athletic and silly. Danielle was very intimidatingly smart. She
was also very artistic. I had seen a few of her drawings and they looked beautiful. A
month later, we had a new seating chart. I sat with a girl named Anachristina, a boy
named Thomas, and another girl named Ravyn. They had the same sense of humor
as I did. As a result, our table was like a bomb filled with laughter and with any
word said we would explode. We got along very well. Anachristina was always
cracking jokes and laughing. Thomas would laugh along and was always happy.
Ravyn was sarcastic and had attitude. I always became mad at myself for not
talking more to them or learning more of them. They were welcoming when we
greeted one another. A few months into the school year everyone in my classes
was comfortable with each other. It was no longer awkward between people
because we had all sat with each other and talked and laughed. Our classes were
always so fun and interesting. There was always something new to talk about in
class. Either about inside jokes or trends we thought had no point. We always
played little games where everyone was always competitive. My fifth and sixth
period class was my favorite. I have the fondest memories in that classroom. There,
we were always happy. My teacher was Mrs. Flanagan, she was great. I was glad I
had put myself out there a little more. Being more extroverted was interesting and
fun. I made new friends by just acting more like myself. Being
Violence In To Kill A Mockingbird
Meadow exposes Combo as a savage whilst the innocent Sandhu is being shown as
a civilised individual. Here in this particular scene, Combo uses violence as a way of
solving problems, whilst Sandhu shows a sense of rationality.
One crucial scene during the film is the scene when Combo turns his hate, envy and
prejudicial rage on another member of the group to disastrous effect, changing Shaun
s viewpoint in an instant. During this scene, we see Combo making references to
being an original skinhead and he talks to Milky about how being a skinhead during
that time was all about black and white harmony. According to a Film4 interview with
Meadows, the 1960s was a time when original skinheads got into the Jamaican and
West Indian scene, buying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meadows does a great job showing a sense of realism in his characters by
presenting them as average looking teenagers, that are being portrayed by
unprofessional actors, but also exposes an issue, which has never before been so
exploited before in cinemas nationwide, in which, England became well known for
its racist and violent nature towards the blacks and immigrants who took most of
the white British males jobs and that Thatcher was made responsible for the high
unemployment rates. Meadows have successfully approached an often overlooked
moment in cultural history and have exposed it for what it really is. It is also clear
that not all men behave the same way that Meadows presents his characters on
screen. In today s world, the new man has been created, which no longer bides with
masculine characteristics, but instead coincides with feminine characteristics such as
sensibility, loving and caring, which we see in the character of Woody and it proves
that the representation of men have changed greatly over the years. In my opinion, I
believe that the use of grittiness is what makes This Is England so powerful and
effective in being very realistic towards themes such as nationalism, racism and pride.
It has given a huge impact on audiences as it helps educate them about England s
past, a moment in British history which has been over looked. It also shows how
far England has come as a country, as we can see during the opening title sequence
to the film where a selection of stock footage from the 1980s is being used to give
the audience a visual idea of when and where the film s story is set. Most
importantly, this film has shown how far men have come and changed for the better.

Why Schools Should Provide Food Education Classes Essay
If asked, would you be able to explain in detail how the food you ate for dinner last
night was made and what ingredients it contained? Furthermore, would you be able
to identify the presence of corn in your meal? Unfortunately, the average American
would not be able to. Food is one of the most basic and essential human needs, yet it
is a topic that most of us know very little about. Tom Small believes that this should
change. Small asserts that parents nowadays do not have time to cook healthy meals,
let alone teach their kids how to shop for foodand cook. This dangerous new
phenomenon is compromising our health, our environment, and our consciousness. I
agree with Tom Small; schools should provide and require courses that teach students
how to cook and shop for themselves.
The first reason why schools should provide food education classes is because
nowadays, people do not know what they are eating. The majority of most
Americans would not be able to pronounce the names of the ingredients listed on
the package of the last snack food they consumed. Consumers ignore certain critical
questions about the quality and the cost of what they are sold: How fresh is it?
How clean or pure is it, how free of dangerous chemicals? ... When the food has been
manufactured or processed or precooked, how has that affected its quality or price or
nutritional value? (Berry, 24) It is of utmost importance that we understand what the
food that lines the grocery store shelves is actually
Dave Short Story Essay
Humans are the most extraordinary creatures in this whole universe. People are
capable of unimaginable things such as loving with all our heart, building
structures to the sky, and creating more people. But, sadly, no matter how much
love we give, how tall the buildings we create are, and no matter how many more
people we birth, we are and always be corrupt. We will always be full of evil. Full
of crime, and hate. We murder, we steal, and we lie. We are bringing hell onto the
earth once full of pure kindness. In the mass of all this hatred and crime, there are a
select handful of people who show this world that the earth isn t as bad as it may

He started to lay back and jumped when the nurse picked her perky attitude up. But,

Guidelines, Policies And Procedures Within England...
Unit 2.
Assessment Criteria 2.1.1.
Outline current legislation. Guidelines, policies and procedures within England
affecting the safeguarding of children and young people.
The Children Act of 1989 introduced comprehensive and wide reaching changes to
the legislation in England and Wales, which directly affected the wellbeing and
welfare of children and young people. It remains an important piece of legislation as
it s main focus is safeguarding children and the roles and responsibilities of the local
authorities.
The Every Child Matters Guidelines led to the Children Act of 2004, a revision of
The Children Act 1989, as a direct result of the death of Victoria Climbe`, and the
manner in which this was handled.
108 recommendations for change to the piece of legislation were made in order to
improve child protection and safeguarding within the United Kingdom. The 5 main
recommendations were, a closer working relationship between all agencies working
with children and young people, a central database of all children and to which
agencies they are known, an independent children s commissioner to protect the
rights of children and young people, a child and families board chaired by a
government minister, and finally OFSTED will set up a framework, which will
monitor all children centric services.
The United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child essentially states that

Figurative Language In Harry Hume s The Cough By Harry
Hume
The Cough Harry Hume s short story The Cough uses figurative language to show
that the father works as a miner and as a result is getting sick but cannot stop
working as his job is the only thing keeping the family afloat. The diction used in
this micro story illustrates how the father s job as a miner seeps into every part of
their life. The personification of the coughsets out to illustrate the father s illness not
as something evil or destructive, but simply as a nuisance. The symbolism of the
Orrery demonstrates how the author views their father s sickness as the core of
his world, responsible for making their lives function. Hume s is able to show an
entire family s state and story in a few paragraphs by using carefully selected words
and literary devices to make the reader infer the information rather than say it
explicitly. The personification of the cough shows that it is such a constant presence
in the family s life that it almost acts as a family member. The description of the
cough behaving like a childboth makes the reader view the cough as a member of
the author s family and implies that the author does not view the cough as necessarily
malignant. However, the cough is a nuisance much like a little kid is a nuisance
because it is always hungry and demand[ed] attention. The cough being always
hungry makes the reader think of a little kid wanting food rather than a lungdisease

makes the reader think of a pesky child rather than the constant sounds of the father
coughing. These descriptions fit in with the personification of a child and make
the reader see the cough as more of a helpless thing that needs to be taken care of
rather than insidious and evil. The personification of the cough as a child also acts
as if the author sees the cough as a part of the family, both emphasizing its constant
presence and the author s almost benign view of the cough. The imagery used in
The Cough illustrates the father s life as a miner. The father is first described as
walking down Ash Alley, which both makes the reader visualize a gray and dingy
alleyway while also drawing from the same imagery of a
Psalms 23
Psalms 23 is a verse that is indicated that God loves us and we should only pass one
love. This verse stood out to me because even though some people don t always get
along with me I will always have God to stand right by my side through all the
problems I endure. It s not telling you that you re not always going to like someone
and they re not always going to like you but you have to think, if you hold a grudge

Historical events have been recorded, developed, and critiqued to the extent that it
feels like people would be lost without this information. For centuries historians have
uncovered and recorded antient history and are now able to formulate a
chronological order of most events. History first seems to start when people begin to
write down and record annual or daily events. They are translated into religious
practices and beliefs among various religions, including Christianity. However, there
are some societies and religious that do not value historyin these ways and do not
participate in historical and chronological practices in the same ways as European
traditions. Deloria, a well educated man with an understanding of Indigenous and

to recognise these differences and accept them for what they are. Nations must face
plurality and understand that assimilation is not the only way to deal with it.
Deloria states that the problem is not in the Indigenous people, but in Western
societies. The minds and eyes of Western people have thus been permently closed to
understanding or observing religious experiences (Deloria 2003, 288). If Western
people are ever able to address the past and their differences and be open minded to
humanistic experiences, then nations will truly live in an accepting
Tortoiseshell Research Paper
Tortoiseshell describes a coat coloring found mostly in female cats. Cats of this
color are mottled, with patches of orange or cream and chocolate, black or blue. They
are sometimes called torties for short.
The term tortoiseshell is typically reserved for cats with brindled coats that have
relatively few or no white markings.
Those that are largely white with red and brown patches (rather than a brindled
aspect) are described as tortoiseshell and white (in the United Kingdom) or calico (in
Canada and the United States). Tortoiseshells and Calicos are not specific breeds of
cat. The Tortoiseshell markings appear in many different breeds as well as in non
purebred domestic cats. This pattern is especially preferred in the Japanese Bobtail
Methods Of Construction At 4.1 Pile Foundation
4. METHODS OF CONSTRUCTION 4.1 PILE FOUNDATION: Piles are
structural members that are made up of steel, concrete, or timber. They are used to
build pile foundations, which are deep and which cost more than shallow
foundations. Despite the cost, the use of piles often is necessary to ensure structural
safety. The following list identifies some of the condition that require pile
foundations. 1.When the upper soil layers are highly compressible and too weak to
carry the load transmitted by the superstructure, piles are used for transmitting the
load to underlying bedrocks or a stronger soil layer, as shown in figure(a). When
bedrock is not encountered at a reasonable depth below the ground surface, piles are
used to transmit the structural load to the soil. The resistance to the applied structural
load is derived mainly from the frictional resistance developed at the soil pile
interface (figure (b)). Figure 4.1 Pile Requirements 2. When subjected to horizontal
forces, pile foundations resist by bending while still supporting the vertical load
transmitted by the superstructure. This type of situation is generally encountered in
the design and construction of earth retaining structures and foundations of tall
structures that are subject to high wind and/or earthquake forces. 3. In many cases,
expansive and collapsible soils may be present at the site of a proposed structure.
These soils may extend to a
Switching To A Year Round School
Schools across the country are switching to a year round schedule. Little do they
know many others are switching back to the traditional school calendar. Whether it s
the parents, kids, or the teacher, change isn t easy on anyone. Many simply think of
it as more school and no breaks but it s kind of the exact opposite. Year round school
is simply the same number of days off just in between and throughout the year.
Ultimately switching to a year round schedule would cause a rise in costs, and greatly
affect kids who have summer jobs/vacations, thus creating a scheduling nightmare for
kids, parents, and teachers alike.
Although opposite to this view it is often argued that the addition of year round
schooling could be more or less, a time saver. ... Show more content on

One s schedule can get so messed up that no one would have any spare time left at
all not have enough time to take vacations without a long summer break (Chen, p.
9). But for the parents who manage getting students to school, practice, or whatever
it may be it can be a real scheduling nightmare. Plus it s not likely your employer
would negotiate with you on the days you can and can t come in due to school work.
Shorter and more frequent breaks can interfere with job opportunities. (Chen, p. 9) It
s either you re there or not!
Whether it s year round or traditional school they both have drawback, but a year
round schedule would be more devastating than many may think. The negative
effects of a year round schedule are enormous compared to that of a traditional
school calendar. Nothing is so painful to the human mind as a great and sudden
change (Quote Garden). Overall the cost would add up, kids would miss quality time
with their relatives, and moreover struggle with finding a normal
Freudian Slip Theory Essay
Introduction
Freudian slip theory was originally created by Sigmund Freud. He was an Austrian
neurologist and was better known as the founder of psychoanalysis (1856 1939).
Psychoanalysis can be defined as a set of psychological theories which includes the
Freudian slip theory. He believed that everyone possess an unconscious mind,
feelings, desires and memories in their lifetime. It is to be said that peoples will bring
their unconscious content on their mind to their conscious awareness and people will
be able to experience catharsis and gain insight into their current state of mind.

In 1981, Erdelyi found a Freudian slip in an article criticizing Freudian ideas.
Erdelyi had previously written an article titled: Let us not sweep repression under
the rug, a title which was itself a play on words. But when Loftus and Loftus (1980)
cited the paper, while arguing against repressed memories, they rendered the title as,
Let us now sweep repression under the rug. To Erdelyi, that was exactly what they
were trying to do, so he saw this error as an amusing Freudian slip.
In contrast, there are evidence that proves Freudian slips is unavoidable and
peoples will correct it if they say it or wrote it wrongly. It is clear that slips and
mistake are two different things as if ones who make a mistake and instantly he

making the same mistakes over and over again and he/she does not know how to
correct it, obviously that is a mistake made by the person. However, since Sigmund

disagree with his idea. Why?

Marxism Within Blt
Marxism Within Black Theology of Liberation. This study seeks to expose the
ways in which Black Theology of Liberation was shaped by Marxism through the

liberation of the poor African Americans from their repressive white racist

deprived of it by their white capitalist oppressors. The theme of this researched

He argues that Christ s ministry was centered at liberating the oppressed of his
time. This Black Liberation Theology belief was extracted from two biblical
verses, Isaiah 61:1 2 where the prophet Isaiah proclaims the coming of the year of
the Lord in which He will proclaim liberty to those spiritually captive, and Luke
4:18 19 where Christ declares that He has come to free those who are spiritually
captive. Black Liberation theologians are half correct when they state that Christ s
ministry was, in part, centered at liberating the oppressed, but they omit that Christ
referred to those spiritually oppressed not physically oppressed. In fact, the only
moment in which Christ witnessed violence throughout his three years ministry was
when his disciple Peter pulled out a sword and cut the ear of one of the soldiers who
had come to arrest Jesus, at that instant Jesus healed the injury and reminded Peter
that it was not by sword, but with the power of the Holy Spirit. Thus
Finding Emergency Housing After A Fight Essay
From trying to find a place to get her mother in law s hair permed to having to find
emergency housing after a fight erupted between two seniors (sisters, no less) over
dentures to spending Christmas in the emergency room instead of the living room,
Gail s firsthand experience shows how sticky it can get when you are in charge of
your parents.
The book is divided into 60 vignettes followed by questions, including Surviving the
Annual Family Reunion, To Tube or Not to Tube, That Is the Question, and When I
Will Means I Won t.
Gail, who also speaks and holds workshops on aging, says the questions get people
thinking about their own situations.
One problem is most people think they are going to just up and die. That s like 10
percent of people now, she says. This means that most of us will end up needing
care provided by others at some point, like it or not. It s the best of all worlds when
you are willing to broach it before the crisis, Gail says. What it brings up if you wait
is more fear. Death is undergirding everything to talk about.
Like Amy, Gail says a meeting is best. The first thing is to bring family together
after a letter or a phone call to tell them it s time to talk about end of life issues. She
also suggests using a facilitator, like a geriatric care manager, nurse or social worker
who will cover the basics because, sometimes, parents will refuse to talk.

The use of soap and water is regarded as the best form of hand hygiene. Hands
should be wet and then 3 to 5 ml of soap should be scrubbed into the hands for a

I recently had the opportunity to do just that. As part of my PPR, one of my goals
was to attend 20 hours of environmental safety courses. During the courses I had
learned of several methods used to prevent pollution. One of the discussions
centered on a list with subcomponents outlining ways that employees could help to
improve the environment and his or her role in preventing pollution. After I had
completed the courses I had a meeting with the department manager and discussed
the need to educate the employees in our department on environmental safety and
pollution prevention. Given the green light to develop a training course, I began
working on one specifically designed for my group, which consisted of office

Arguments In Crito
The reading passage Crito is about a conversation between Socrates and Crito. The
main idea of this passage is that after Socrates was announced death, his friend
Crito came and told him that plans were in place to prepare for his escape and
journey to another country (Crito 45b). However, Socrates refused to do so (Crito

of leaving with his friend and starting a new life in another country?
One of the biggest arguments between Socrates and his friend Crito is that why
Socrates have had to stay in jail and face and obey the unfair judgment? From Crito
s point of view, he wants Socrates to escape because he does not want lose a good

Comparison Of Shooting An Elephant And The Reluctant...
George Orwell and Mohsin Hamid in their works Shooting an Elephant and The
Reluctant Fundamentalist, respectively have a presence that is perhaps more
intimate than in any given story. Both write in first person, and both describe events
that somehow mirror their own lives; however, their narrative style differs in certain
ways that are critical to understanding their relationship to the imperialistic powers
they critique.
The most prominent difference between the two works is as simple as format.
Though both are written in first person, Hamid s The Reluctant Fundamentalist is
written as a dramatic monologue from a Pakistani man named Changez, and Shooting
an Elephant features an unnamed English narrator, likely Orwell himself, describing

In Hamid s novel, the protagonist Changez is speaking to an American stranger,
who contributes little to the story beyond suggestions of his feelings as observed
by Changez. This choice, like the one to have Changez narrate the novel, creates
an additional but distinct kind of distance for Hamid. Instead of delivering an
extended soliloquy, Changez is speaking directly to another person, which
suggests two things: first, that Changez must constantly be aware of others
reactions (particularly, an American s reaction) to what he s saying, and second,
that he might be slightly sugarcoating his views as a result. For example, as he
describes the 9/11 attacks in New York, Changez tells the American, I stared as one
and then the other of the twin towers of New York s World Trade Center collapses.
And then I smiled. Yes, despicable as it may sound, my initial reaction was to be
remarkably pleased. The phrase despicable as it may sound implies, to put it simply,
that Changez must be aware of how he sounds he is either reacting to an expression
or body movement from the stranger, or simply anticipating the stranger s reaction to
what he s said. The fact that Changez guesses that the American will find his
response to 9/11 despicable does not necessarily mean that Changez himself finds it
despicable; he is simply acknowledging the ardent,
Narrative Essay On A Mouse In The Mouse
Me and my friends just found a dead mouse in our classroom, and one of them
suggested we hide it in Mrs Pratchett s jars of sweets. I was given the honor of
putting the mouse in the jar. Before I did so, I made a last minute decision to turn
the tables of our secret plan, because I would have to face risky consequences. Once
we reached there, I ve started planning my own mouseplot by tricking my friends into
thinking that I put the mouse in, when in reality I hadn t. We barged in the sweet
shop, and we saw Mrs Pratchett s dissatisfied as usual. She grumbled because we
barged in her sweet shop like a pack of wild cattle. After that, she went to the
bathroom, making it the perfect time to put the mouse in. I told my friends to wait
outside so just in case she walks out, she won t be expecting any tomfoolery. This
was just step 1 of my scheme, and a wide, smug grin spread across my face as my
plan came together. When she came out of the bathroom, I asked her if I could go
there for a while. She stared at me for a full minute of silence, wiping the soot of
her chin, and said I could, but I had to clean up afterwards. Drooping my arms, I
headed to the bathroom and started desperately flushing the mouse in. Mrs
Pratchett heard all of the flushing, and she came to the door to see what was going
on. It was a miracle that her bathroom door had a lock option on it, because if there
wasn t , my plan could have been a total bust. I washed my hands twice to get the
mouse s germs off my hands (the water there wasn t very sanitary!), and came out
like nothing unusual happened. I was starting to get a jumpy feeling about how
my mouse plot was running so smoothly (though I can t really call it a mouse plot
anymore because I threw away the mouse.) I told my friends to come inside, and
they all have the same jumpy feeling like I did, with big, smiling faces on the
prank. I was chuckling quietly to see the look on their faces when they realize who
I really pranked. I whispered to Thwaites that the mouse was in the candy corn jar,
so he asked for a pound of them. I even pulled out a few bucks to emphasize the
prank. She unscrewed the jar and she didn t find any trace of mouse in there.
Confused, Thwaites asked her to keep

These heavy red coats were required and any straying from this strict dress code
was to be kept immaculate on pain of a flogging (119). The author suggests, The
uniform of the British soldier in 1775 might have been designed by some demonic
tailor who had sworn sartorial vengeance upon the human frame (118).
The military uniforms of the British also radiated a uniquely British quality. An air of
superiority was apparent in the dress of the British. The red coats were elaborately
embellished with lace, wings, buttons, loops, knots and incongruous heart shaped
badges on the coattail (121). This illustrates the gentility and superiority that the
British felt was inherant in them. Instead of wearing the crudely put together
uniforms of the various militias, the British attempted to exude an air of confidence
that was repugnant to the Americans.
Hackett Fischer goes to great lengths to establish this feeling of superiority that was
prevelant among the British soldiers. He includes quotes throughout the novel in
which the British commanders condemn the crudely organized millitias. One British
observer wrote It is a curious masquerade scene to see grave sober citizens, barbers

Analysis Of Pretty Hurt By Sia Furrler
Pretty Hurts Song Response to Text Essay Introduction The song, Pretty Hurts
written by Sia Furler is about girls showing the pain to be perfect isn t worth it, we

should focus more on our inner beauty. A metaphor is used by the author to show a

China s Reforms During The Soviet Union
China and Russia are both countries with strong state traditions who have favored
communist systems over the western idea of democracy. But, in the 1990 s, China
and Russia began to stray from their communist systems in their own ways. Russia
began the shift with rapid political liberalization under Gorbachev followed by the
fall of the Soviet Union. China, on the other hand, embarked on a managed transition
with step by step introduction of capitalism while the CCP remained the sole political
power. China s transition was hugely successful, experiencing astounding GDP
growth and the largest increase in human welfare in history. Russias reforms on the
other hand was a failure as the soviet lost half its territory and population. Following
the fall of the Soviet Union was an economic recession with an increase in crime and
death rates. China experienced a huge increase in human welfare while Russia saw a
huge downturn. After comparing China s and Russia s different path towards
modernization, China has seen stronger and stabled growth as opposed to Russia s
shortcomings.
Russia began its reform with political liberalization, and many believe that Russia s
failure was partly due to focusing on political reform first and they should have
begun with economic reforms which China had done. This lead to political turmoil
so severe that in 1989 1993 workers were politically neutralized and unable to stop
Yeltsin s liberal market reforms. But, a small group of oligarchs helped to

herpes simplex virus, HIV, staph, tetanus, tuberculosis (Tattoos). Tattoo inks have
been described as remarkably nonreactive histologically (Tattoos). Some cases of
allergic reactions to tattoo inks have been medically documented, particularly to
certain ink colors. Sometimes the presences of nickel in an ink pigment can
trigger a common metal allergy. A blood vessel can be hit sometimes in the
process of tattooing and a bruise or hematoma may appear (Tattoos). Certain ink
colors such as red, purple, pink, and orange, tend to cause more problems and
damage compared to other colors of ink. Red ink has caused severe flesh damage
that even the amputation of a limb has been necessary. If parts of a tattoo (especially
if it s red) begin to cause even minor troubles, like becoming itchy or worse, lumpy,
then Danish experts strongly suggest to remove the red parts

The Lake Isle Of Innisfree Analysis
We have read many poems so far ;however, a few really stood out The Lake Isle of
Innisfree (William Yates), Aunt Jennifer s Tigers (Adrienne Rich), and Those
Winter Sundays (Robert Hayden). These poems were among my favorites because
they all had amazing imagery which made it much easier to read and understand.
In the poem, The Lake Isle of Innisfree there was a few keywords that set the tone
for the poem such as alone and low sounds. It gave imagery that whomever was
speaking was alone and at peace and able to observe there surrounds for the first
time in while. They are very emerged into what is happening around them and we
get that from the keyword alone. I like this poem because it has wonderful imagery
with the pavements gray and water lapping . It makes you feel very serine and also
sets the tone to make you feel very calm and almost make you feel like you are
there. The line I hear it in the deep heart s core makes us think that this tranquility is
what the speaker has been longing for and they now feel complete.... Show more

This poem keeps you on the edge wondering what is going to happen next from the
second that it mentions tigers you are curious to find out if the speaker is talking
about literally or figuratively. In about the sixth line I came to the conclusion that
the tiger is the woman s significant other. I really liked this poem because it was so
powerful saying that even when the aunt is dead that she will still be married but,
her significant other will walk around as if nothing had even happened, and he will
move on. I liked this because it is something that happens in life that is inevitable.
Someone you love will pass or go away and you will be forced to move on and
continue your life almost as if it had never
Flowers For Algernon Dilemmas
Dilemmas happen everyday. Some dilemmas can be good, and some can be bad. A
dilemma is a situation in which a difficult choice has to be made between two or
more alternatives. In the story, Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes wrote a
story about a 37 year old man named Charlie who has a disability, he doesn t
understand thing that normal people can. He then is encouraged by his teacher to
get a surgery done to become smarter. Some people think that the surgery was a
good idea,or some think it was a bad idea. In my opinion, I think that Charlie made
the wrong decision about the surgery. Some people think that Charlie should of have
the operation to make his dream come true In my opinion, I think he shouldn t have
had the surgery because, people weren t expecting him to be new, it would not be
permanent, and he put his life in danger.
One reason why I think the surgery was a bad idea was because, no one was
expecting him as a friend. When Charlie got his surgery, some people at his work
were realizing that Charlie had changed, and was starting to have feelings. Look at
him. His face is red.He s blushing. Charlie is blushing.Hey, Ellen, what d you do to
Charlie? I never saw him act like that before . In this sentence Charlie s workmates
realized that Charlie s operation was actually working, and that Charlie was ... Show

He had the operation and it would not be permanent, it will make people not expect
him to be the Charlie he was, and he then had no friends, or jobs, and he put his life

pick something that may be a dream at first, and then have it become something that
wasnt expecting. When Charlie thought that the operation was going to make him
smarter, it turned out that everything he cared about, or was close to him,all slipped

Italian Immigrants Essays
Immigration began late for the Italian population. With the main period of
immigration coming in the late 19th century, Italians were already several steps
behind the Irish, German, and French immigrants (Nelli 38). This proved to be
detrimental to the Italians as the previous immigrants had already stitched themselves
to the flag producing a resolute hatred for incoming immigrants, one of which was
Salvatore Rossi. Having fled Italyin 1897 due to economic hardship, he pursued the
American Dream in New York, by obtaining an education and landing an uncommon
job within the U.S. Government. Italian immigrants in this period of time suffered
extreme racial prejudice and experienced numerous obstacles in their process of

These policies affected Salvatore and the Rossi family dearly. Salvatore, only
sixteen years of age, and his father, Franco, did much of the grunt work on the
family farm with Maria, Salvatore s mother, caring for his little brother, Angelo.
With the new taxes implemented, the Rossi family farm was required to give up
35% of their meager gains from the farm. This implementation harmed the family
much more than anticipated. These taxes and discriminatory policies toward
southern Italians entirety made the decision to immigrate to the United States much
more appealing. Salvatore and his Father were the first to voyage across the
Atlantic, leaving Maria and Angelo home until Salvatore and Franco had amassed
enough funds to bring them over as well. This course of action was common for
Italian immigrants at the time as they often arrived in America with less than $25 in
their pockets. The travel over the Atlantic was anything but inviting. Salvatore and
Franco were just two of over 200,000 that had emigrated to the U.S. from Italy in
1897 (Thernstrom 157). Franco, similar to many other Italian immigrants had no
knowledge of the English language; Salvatore learned what little he knew from a
seasoned missionary that had accompanied him on the ship. The voyage lasted a
week due to the advancements in steam powered vessels
Positive And Negative Effects Of The Maquiladora Industry
Positive and Negative Effects of the Maquiladora Industry
Nuvia Marquez Contemporary Issues Ersela Kripa 05/11/2016
Being a neighbor to the maquiladoras industry for a very large portion of my life,
never stopped to wonder what was the purpose of the maquiladoras? How do
maquiladoras relate to cheap labor and low economic opportunities? Can the pros and
cons of the maquiladora industry affect the global economies? Could our health be
affected by the maquilas? Also, regarding the placement of these industries does it
affect the infrastructure of our border cities?
The maquiladora industry has had a major impact on the lives of its employees. A
documentary from 2006 Maquilapolis, by Vicky Funario and Sergio de la Torre,
show different women talking about the type of products they assemble, from
filters, toys, batteries, and electrical parts to automobile parts. In 1965 the (BIP)
Mexico s Border Industrialization Program was put into effect, maquiladoras
emerging in border cities creating big business opportunities across the U.S. Mexico
border. The main point of this economic development was to encounter high
unemployment in border regions removing the United States from the bracero
program in 1964, meaning manual laborer or one who works using his arms. The
BIP program allowed limited entry of foreign capital into border regions, and in

Sequo Della Signoria And Doges Palace Research Paper
Palazzo della Signoria (fig.13.15) and Doges Palace (fig.13.32) clearly differ in
appearance, however also in purpose. In this essay project I will attempt to describe
these differences, explain how artists, social economics and political factors might be
used to account for these differences as well.
Starting with Doge s Palace, this monument was put under construction in Venice in
1340 (Davies et al. 464). The design of the building had open space and an airy
atmosphere, like most of the other buildings in Venice, the construction lacked a
battle ready impenetrability about itself with little to no defensive design whatsoever
(464). The safe and prestigious appearance of the Doge s Palace was influenced by
Islamic, Gothic, and Byzantine architecture (Davies et al. 465). When it was closer to
St. Mark s Cathedral, the Venetian Palace was expanded in size and space because a

It has been enlarged and remolded in later years also. When the ruling Medici
family moved to another palace in the 16th century, the building was also called
the Palazzo Vecchio (translation: old palace) (448). The Palazzo della Signoria
was given a more protected appearance, attributed by its heavy parapets, sturdy
stone walls, few windows, and a high tower (448). The stones in the Palazzo della
Signoria are purposefully left to be rough and rusticated in order to convey
fortification and strength (448). However, the two upper stones reveal smoother
masonry and more graceful windows, which were pointed (Davies et al.448). The
tall tower is intended to be symbolic of civil pride and to provide a safe vantage
point for observation (448). Though rigid in its appearance the Palazzo della Signoria
is not without its furnishing as it has fresco painting by Giorgio Vasari and sculptures
from Michelangelo
The Farming Of Bones And The Brief Wondrous Life Of
Oscar Wao
Past history reveals the various tragedies of many lives lost while under the rule of
the dictator, Trujillo. The Farming of Bones and The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar
Wao were two different stories of innocent characters who lived and were affected
during Trujillo s reign. These stories targeted the central problems that the characters
went through and the amount of impact it caused them through this cruel leadership.
During that time, many were oppressed and were forced to cope with the life style
that Trujillo created. Oppression played a significant role in the characters because
it led to a loss of identity; however, the two stories shared the various characters
power of hope, belief, and silence as a means of reconstructing... Show more content

Not only just for these two characters, other minor characters were able to cope
with their loss of identity through different mechanisms. Hope is a reassuring
feeling reflected in both Amabelle and Oscar. Regardless of how oppressed and
different they were, they were able to have hope, knowing that it would be a strong
foundation to live on. Amabelle rebuilt her identity through hope by remembering
her past. Her memories acted as a resistance against oppression and remained
strong and faithful. She stated, for so long, this had been my life, but it was all the
past. Now we all had to try and find the future (Danticat, 184). Even though she was
going through so much, she remained optimistic. She shifted her attention towards
water, a tangible object and remembrance of her past, which to her, represented
Heaven my heaven is the veil of water that stands between my parents and me. To
step across it, and then come out is what makes me feel alive (Danticat, 264).
Rather than seeing water as a destructive force that took away her parents,
Amabelle was able to acknowledge and embrace it. Throughout the novel,
Amabelle was able to divert from sulking in oppression and be hopeful for the
future in order for her to fully accept and move on. Oscar s hope was more evident
towards the end of the novel. Oscar was able to finally develop some sort of
romantic relationship with a girl named Ybon. Although he was beaten and warned
Death Valley Essay
Death Valley is a native American reservation located in Utah and approximately a
30 minute drive from the Army s Dugway Proving Ground, a military installation less
than 100 miles from Salt Lake City, Utah. On the early morning of March 15, 1968,
thousands of sheep within the town started showing signs and symptoms of an odd,
peculiar disease; they were unable to come to their feet and without the ability to
keep their necks straight, soon after, they were lying dead in the farms across the
town. This incident, which became known as The Dugway Proving Ground Accident,
generated national attention, in an era marred by public political unrest and an
American public highly suspicious of their government. The majority of Death Valley

There has been a lot of speculation, but significant efforts by Utah State University
and the Department of Agriculture scientists have not been able to name an exact
causal chain association between the testing conducted on March 13 1968 and the
deaths of the sheep. Filled with emblematic value in the state of Utah, the Dugway
sheep incident is constantly raised up at public hearings as one of the main reasons
the people of Utah have not trust in the Government and more specifically the Unites
States

  • 2. Designing A Sales Subsidiary Structure In the organizational context, I recommend Winch It to adopt Sales subsidiary structure . I judged that it was the most appropriate stages to dive in among the four stages of internationalization considering the company s situation and attitude. In the staffing context, I recommend Winch It to take the ethnocentric approach in the staffing context and the balance sheet approach in international compensation. Finally, in international performance management, I listed several issues need to be concerned and suggested adopt not TCN role conception but PCN role conception . Introduction The main object of this portfolio is to provide the board with useful advice for Winch It to develop an international business. Since they are uncertain of what type of organizational structure they would build for international operations and what country to expand, I reflected the board s demand and explanation of the company s current situation mostly than other variables to compose my recommendations. The organizational context I would like to recommend Winch It to adopt Sales subsidiary structure . Typically, initial stage for manufacturing firms entering international operations is exporting. Therefore, theoretically the optimal organizational structure for Winch it which has no experience of in establishing any form of oversea operation is Export department structure . However, I would like to take a more realistic approach than this. The board is confident that Winch It

  • 5. Dichlorodiphenylrichloroethane Research Paper The atomic bomb of pesticides, the toxic compound you may or may not consider on a day to day basis. What is this compound? It is Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane, otherwise known as DDT, which is its abbreviation. This white and odorless compound, consisting of benzene, chlorine, and alcohol , was banned in the June of 1972. The use of DDT was forbidden due to its immense risk to the life of the human race, flora and fauna (plants and animals), and most importantly, the world. The long hearings that occurred prior to the ban helped to lead to the prevention of terrible and nearly irreversible damage from the seemingly helpful insecticide. Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) is an extremely powerful contact insecticide that has a high toxicity. It can be swallowed or pass in through the epidermis, also known as the skin. Some characteristics of the compound are that it is odorless and colorless, usually found in a crystalline powder form. It is not water soluble, but is fat soluble, which allows for it to accumulate inside of the tissues.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The shells would become so thin that when a bird sat on them, they d break, hampering multiplication of the species. Even 4 decades after the ban, it is making a negative impact on the eggs of condors . But birds are not the only animals affected by DDT, for there were many more. The animals that DDT is most toxic to are fish. It is so harmful to fish that it is extremely difficult to study. In actuality, DDT grows less toxic within hotter water temperatures, which means that tropical fish are not as loomed over by the dangerous shadow of DDT as much as other fish. Sadly, since it is insoluble to water it wreaks havoc on the fish population. The insecticide manages to find its way to a body of water by being carried by runoff. It rarely can find its way into groundwater, and usually stays on the top of the soil. With that being said, our next subject is approached: its
  • 6. A Memoir Of The Senses By Isabel Allende If you like cooking, food, sex and humor then you will most definitely enjoy The Epicure s Lament by Kate Christianson and Aphrodite: A Memoir of the Senses by Isabel Allende. I enjoyed both books for the most part. More so Epicure s Lament than Aphrodite: A Memoir of the Senses. Here s my breakdown of both books and how they differ and how they are similar. To start off both authors are women. Although after reading both novels, both authors don t seem very similar to me. Christianson comes off to me as more edgy and loose. And although her books extremely sexual, I think Allende s is older, maybe middle age. The reason I think that is when I read this bookI picture her as an older cougar who knows just what she wants. I like Christianson better. She reminds me of myself and I think she would be a lot of fun to hang out with. To be fair though I ve only read just these two books by the authors. I do plan to read more of Christianson s work though. I absolutely love Greek mythology. I actually took a Greek mythology class at Tidewater Community College. So when I found out we had to read Aphrodite, I was extremely excited. Aphrodite is supposed to be the goddess of love, desire and beauty. But this book is not about Greek mythology. Although it does remind me Aphrodite with all the sexual stories and pictures. If there was a Greek goddess that had to do with food and sex that would of been perfect for this book. Allende s book is supposed to be a memoir but it s more of

Inflation Essay Global economy has been changing significantly in past several decades which has been affected by the goods and services in the national borders leading to the movement of the country up and down in the international system economically. The economy of the country is strictly hit by two important factors that are: deflation and inflation. Deflation can be defined as the decrease in the price of the goods or services provided. In order to win the competition in the supply chain, which means it must be through the management of the supply chain. Currently supply chains become more integrated, more global, the high speed development of information technology has become an important driving force. In this essay we will discuss the four different phases of the soft tissue healing process and also explain all the components of each particular phase and how it functions. This will also include sport therapeutic interventions that may contribute to the healing process and that may maximise healing of soft tissue. First Phase Bleeding This particular phase is immediate and depending on the vascularity of the tissue that is damaged although it only happens during the first few hours as demonstrated by (Watson, 2006) in this illustration of the length of each phase. The bleeding occurs following trauma to the tissue this could be an overload of a tissue or even external force. One of the bodies first initial haemodynamic responses to bleeding is vasoconstriction which narrows the blood vessels causing decreased blood velocity, in 2008 (Watson) states that this is due to the release of noradrenaline(norepinephrine); the reaction last lasts only a few seconds to a minute. It is also explained by (Terkeltaub Ginsberg, 1988) that both lymphatic and blood vessels are plugged to limit any fluid loss and platelet, aggregation is stimulated by the presence of thrombin. Vasoconstriction responds primarily to haemostasis which is a response to prevent blood loss and a platelet plug is formed to support the prevention of excessive
  • 11. Social Vulnerability In Emergency Management When a disaster hits an area it does not discriminate on where it hits or who is affected. When it comes to effective emergency management it is important that managers take into account certain preimpact conditions in order to properly prepare, mitigate, respond and recover from a disaster regardless of the magnitude. One preimpact condition that is important to consider is the Social Vulnerability. Social vulnerability is important because it assesses the resilience of communities and how disasters or external stressors can impact them (Lindell et al, 2006, pg. 153). It is important for emergency personnel to understand the social vulnerability of a community in order to alleviate the amount of human suffering and economic loss that can occur post disaster. In order to determine an areas social vulnerability the Emergency Managementuses a system known as the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) for disaster management. The SVI take into account socioeconomic status, household composition and disability, minority status and language as well as housing and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... SVI also aids Emergency Managers in the response and recovery because based on the known variables, they are able to plan, train and prepare for the disaster and identify the communities that are vulnerable and provide the proper assistance. • 12. Allusions In The Crucible You were supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them! You were supposed to bring balance to the force, not leave it in darkness! This is what Obi Wan screamed at Anakin before leaving him to burn almost to death on Mustafar. While this accusation makes sense from a Jedi point of view, from the Buddhist point of view, it is entirely unfounded. The Jedi, through their millennia of non virtuous actions, earned the non virtuous actions that happened to them. In fact, Anakin was just used as the instrument of karma in Revenge of the Sith. The Jedi are held up on a pedestal throughout the entire saga, but they are not perfect heroes. Just during the course of the movie, the Jedi lied and committed divisive speech, both of which are principle verbal non virtues. There are many times that they lie, not only amongst themselves, but also to the Chancellor and the Senate. Their biggest lies were in their omissions of information about their inability to access the force as easily, and when they told Anakin to lie to the Chancellor and spy on him. While the Chancellor is the antagonist of the film, that doesn t change the fact that when the Jedi forced Anakin to spy on his beloved friend, they were committing a non virtuous act. They were willing to commit these non virtues because they had grown... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bad things that happened to the Jedi order were the results of their millennia of non virtuous acts. The Jedi, throughout their many years of power, committed almost every single non virtue, and did many of them with the wrong views and with a harmful intent due to their arrogance. So Anakin was just an instrument of karma that actually cleansed the bad karma that the Jedi had built up. In that way, he fulfilled the prophecy, bringing balance to the force by balancing the karma of the Jedi. Therefore, the true blame for the destruction of the Jedi lies with the Jedi, not
  • 13. Flaws Of Evolutionism Creationist believe that God created everything. It is founded on the belief that the universe was created by the supernatural act of the Creator. The first passage of the Bible in Genesis 1:1 states that, In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. All through Genesis 1, we read statements that show us that the Creator spoke everything into existence. Also, in Psalm 33:6 the Bible tells us, By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by then breath of his mouth. For he spake, and it was done. he commanded, and it stood fast. Evolutionist believe in a molecule to man process that stems from organisms evolving over long periods of time. Intelligent scientists felt that if they could reproduce life in a laboratory, then they would prove that no intelligence was needed to create life in the beginning. A scientist named Stanley Miller set out to prove this in a famous experiment in 1953. Miller took a mixture of gasses (ammonia, hydrogen, methane, and water vapor) which he presumed might have composed the Earth s atmosphere millions of years ago, and passed an electric current through them. This produced a mixture of amino acids, although not the correct kind of amino acids need to support life. However, there are several problems with this experiment. First off, Miller had no proof that the gasses he used ever actually composed the earth s atmosphere. He was also very careful to make sure that there was no oxygen present during his experiment. Oxygen is a poisonous gas, and thus if it was present in the atmosphere, the amino acids would not have formed. However, if oxygen were NOT present, then the ozone layer would not have existed, and the ultraviolet radiation from the sun would have destroyed the amino acids as soon as they were formed. In addition to this, much like a human hand, there are two kinds, or handedness, of amino acids. Human hands are the same in all respects except for handedness, where one hand is a mirror image of the other. The same is true of

My first day of middle school was very close. That year I wanted to break out of my shell a little bit and meet new people, although I was always more of an introvert. I had gone to the school, I would see for a couple of years and had received my schedule. I now knew who my teachers were going to be, relieved, but worried I would be alone. The morning of my first day of school was fresh with a nice soft breeze. When I entered the gate I saw my friends dressed in their new clothes and quickly walked to them. My fifth and sixth period class was my favorite. I have the fondest memories in that classroom. There, we were always happy. My teacher was Mrs. Flanagan, she was great. I was glad I had put myself out there a little more. Being more extroverted was interesting and fun. I made new friends by just acting more like myself. Being
  • 15. Violence In To Kill A Mockingbird Meadow exposes Combo as a savage whilst the innocent Sandhu is being shown as a civilised individual. Here in this particular scene, Combo uses violence as a way of solving problems, whilst Sandhu shows a sense of rationality. One crucial scene during the film is the scene when Combo turns his hate, envy and prejudicial rage on another member of the group to disastrous effect, changing Shaun s viewpoint in an instant. During this scene, we see Combo making references to being an original skinhead and he talks to Milky about how being a skinhead during that time was all about black and white harmony. Meadows does a great job showing a sense of realism in his characters by presenting them as average looking teenagers, that are being portrayed by unprofessional actors, but also exposes an issue, which has never before been so exploited before in cinemas nationwide, in which, England became well known for its racist and violent nature towards the blacks and immigrants who took most of the white British males jobs and that Thatcher was made responsible for the high unemployment rates. Meadows have successfully approached an often overlooked moment in cultural history and have exposed it for what it really is. It is also clear that not all men behave the same way that Meadows presents his characters on screen. In today s world, the new man has been created, which no longer bides with masculine characteristics, but instead coincides with feminine characteristics such as sensibility, loving and caring, which we see in the character of Woody and it proves that the representation of men have changed greatly over the years. In my opinion, I believe that the use of grittiness is what makes This Is England so powerful and effective in being very realistic towards themes such as nationalism, racism and pride. It has given a huge impact on audiences as it helps educate them about England s past, a moment in British history which has been over looked. It also shows how far England has come as a country, as we can see during the opening title sequence to the film where a selection of stock footage from the 1980s is being used to give the audience a visual idea of when and where the film s story is set. Most importantly, this film has shown how far men have come and changed for the better. In

Furthermore, would you be able to identify the presence of corn in your meal? Unfortunately, the average American would not be able to. Food is one of the most basic and essential human needs, yet it is a topic that most of us know very little about. Tom Small believes that this should change. Small asserts that parents nowadays do not have time to cook healthy meals, let alone teach their kids how to shop for foodand cook. This dangerous new phenomenon is compromising our health, our environment, and our consciousness. I agree with Tom Small; schools should provide and require courses that teach students how to cook and shop for themselves. The first reason why schools should provide food education classes is because nowadays, people do not know what they are eating. The majority of most Americans would not be able to pronounce the names of the ingredients listed on the package of the last snack food they consumed. Consumers ignore certain critical questions about the quality and the cost of what they are sold: How fresh is it? How clean or pure is it, how free of dangerous chemicals? ... When the food has been manufactured or processed or precooked, how has that affected its quality or price or nutritional value? (Berry, 24) It is of utmost importance that we understand what the food that lines the grocery store shelves is actually

How come he was always alone? How was it that he gave, and gave everything he had but when he needed someone... not even his sister was around. • 20. Figurative Language In Harry Hume s The Cough By Harry Hume The Cough Harry Hume s short story The Cough uses figurative language to show that the father works as a miner and as a result is getting sick but cannot stop working as his job is the only thing keeping the family afloat. The diction used in this micro story illustrates how the father s job as a miner seeps into every part of their life. The personification of the coughsets out to illustrate the father s illness not as something evil or destructive, but simply as a nuisance. The symbolism of the Orrery demonstrates how the author views their father s sickness as the core of his world, responsible for making their lives function. Hume s is able to show an entire family s state and story in a few paragraphs by using carefully selected words and literary devices to make the reader infer the information rather than say it explicitly. The personification of the cough shows that it is such a constant presence in the family s life that it almost acts as a family member. The description of the cough behaving like a childboth makes the reader view the cough as a member of the author s family and implies that the author does not view the cough as necessarily malignant. However, the cough is a nuisance much like a little kid is a nuisance because it is always hungry and demand[ed] attention. The cough being always hungry makes the reader think of a little kid wanting food rather than a lungdisease that forces the father to constantly cough and the cough demand[ing] attention makes the reader think of a pesky child rather than the constant sounds of the father coughing. These descriptions fit in with the personification of a child and make the reader see the cough as more of a helpless thing that needs to be taken care of rather than insidious and evil. The personification of the cough as a child also acts as if the author sees the cough as a part of the family, both emphasizing its constant presence and the author s almost benign view of the cough. The imagery used in The Cough illustrates the father s life as a miner. The father is first described as walking down Ash Alley, which both makes the reader visualize a gray and dingy alleyway while also drawing from the same imagery of a

They are used to build pile foundations, which are deep and which cost more than shallow foundations. Despite the cost, the use of piles often is necessary to ensure structural safety. The following list identifies some of the condition that require pile foundations. 1.When the upper soil layers are highly compressible and too weak to carry the load transmitted by the superstructure, piles are used for transmitting the load to underlying bedrocks or a stronger soil layer, as shown in figure(a). When bedrock is not encountered at a reasonable depth below the ground surface, piles are used to transmit the structural load to the soil. The resistance to the applied structural load is derived mainly from the frictional resistance developed at the soil pile interface (figure (b)). Figure 4.1 Pile Requirements 2. When subjected to horizontal forces, pile foundations resist by bending while still supporting the vertical load transmitted by the superstructure. This type of situation is generally encountered in the design and construction of earth retaining structures and foundations of tall structures that are subject to high wind and/or earthquake forces. 3. In many cases, expansive and collapsible soils may be present at the site of a proposed structure. These soils may extend to a

Whether it s the parents, kids, or the teacher, change isn t easy on anyone. Many simply think of it as more school and no breaks but it s kind of the exact opposite. Year round school is simply the same number of days off just in between and throughout the year. Black Liberation theologians are half correct when they state that Christ s ministry was, in part, centered at liberating the oppressed, but they omit that Christ referred to those spiritually oppressed not physically oppressed. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Hamid s novel, the protagonist Changez is speaking to an American stranger, who contributes little to the story beyond suggestions of his feelings as observed by Changez. This choice, like the one to have Changez narrate the novel, creates an additional but distinct kind of distance for Hamid. Instead of delivering an extended soliloquy, Changez is speaking directly to another person, which suggests two things: first, that Changez must constantly be aware of others reactions (particularly, an American s reaction) to what he s saying, and second, that he might be slightly sugarcoating his views as a result. For example, as he describes the 9/11 attacks in New York, Changez tells the American, I stared as one and then the other of the twin towers of New York s World Trade Center collapses. And then I smiled. Yes, despicable as it may sound, my initial reaction was to be remarkably pleased. The phrase despicable as it may sound implies, to put it simply, that Changez must be aware of how he sounds he is either reacting to an expression or body movement from the stranger, or simply anticipating the stranger s reaction to what he s said. The fact that Changez guesses that the American will find his response to 9/11 despicable does not necessarily mean that Changez himself finds it despicable; he is simply acknowledging the ardent,

I was given the honor of putting the mouse in the jar. Before I did so, I made a last minute decision to turn the tables of our secret plan, because I would have to face risky consequences. Once we reached there, I ve started planning my own mouseplot by tricking my friends into thinking that I put the mouse in, when in reality I hadn t. We barged in the sweet shop, and we saw Mrs Pratchett s dissatisfied as usual. She grumbled because we barged in her sweet shop like a pack of wild cattle. After that, she went to the bathroom, making it the perfect time to put the mouse in. I told my friends to wait outside so just in case she walks out, she won t be expecting any tomfoolery. This was just step 1 of my scheme, and a wide, smug grin spread across my face as my plan came together. When she came out of the bathroom, I asked her if I could go there for a while. She stared at me for a full minute of silence, wiping the soot of her chin, and said I could, but I had to clean up afterwards. Drooping my arms, I headed to the bathroom and started desperately flushing the mouse in. Mrs Pratchett heard all of the flushing, and she came to the door to see what was going on. It was a miracle that her bathroom door had a lock option on it, because if there wasn t , my plan could have been a total bust. I washed my hands twice to get the mouse s germs off my hands (the water there wasn t very sanitary!), and came out like nothing unusual happened. I was starting to get a jumpy feeling about how my mouse plot was running so smoothly (though I can t really call it a mouse plot anymore because I threw away the mouse.) I told my friends to come inside, and they all have the same jumpy feeling like I did, with big, smiling faces on the prank. I was chuckling quietly to see the look on their faces when they realize who I really pranked. I whispered to Thwaites that the mouse was in the candy corn jar, so he asked for a pound of them. I even pulled out a few bucks to emphasize the prank. She unscrewed the jar and she didn t find any trace of mouse in there. Confused, Thwaites asked her to keep

Paul Reveres Ride Essay Paul Reveres Ride Paul Revere s Ride is a collection of historical accounts centering around Paul Revere s midnight ride to warn the countryside of the battles that occurred. The novel is made up of narrative accounts that tell the whole story of the midnight ride. David Hackett Fischer goes to great lengths to cover every possible angle in telling the story. Fischer illuminates the figure of PaulRevere, a man far more complex than a simple artisan and messenger(3). By adding different perspectives he allows the reader to see not only the American idealistic point of view, but we get a chance to hear British accountsof these particular events. These heavy red coats were required and any straying from this strict dress code was to be kept immaculate on pain of a flogging (119). The author suggests, The uniform of the British soldier in 1775 might have been designed by some demonic tailor who had sworn sartorial vengeance upon the human frame (118). The military uniforms of the British also radiated a uniquely British quality. An air of superiority was apparent in the dress of the British. The red coats were elaborately embellished with lace, wings, buttons, loops, knots and incongruous heart shaped badges on the coattail (121). This illustrates the gentility and superiority that the British felt was inherant in them. Instead of wearing the crudely put together uniforms of the various militias, the British attempted to exude an air of confidence that was repugnant to the Americans. Hackett Fischer goes to great lengths to establish this feeling of superiority that was prevelant among the British soldiers. He includes quotes throughout the novel in which the British commanders condemn the crudely organized millitias. One British observer wrote It is a curious masquerade scene to see grave sober citizens, barbers and tailors who never looked fierce before, strutting about in their Sunday wigs with muskets on their shoulders...if ever you saw a goose assume an air of consequence, you may catch some faint

But, in the 1990 s, China and Russia began to stray from their communist systems in their own ways. Russia began the shift with rapid political liberalization under Gorbachev followed by the fall of the Soviet Union. China, on the other hand, embarked on a managed transition with step by step introduction of capitalism while the CCP remained the sole political power. China s transition was hugely successful, experiencing astounding GDP growth and the largest increase in human welfare in history. Russias reforms on the other hand was a failure as the soviet lost half its territory and population. Following the fall of the Soviet Union was an economic recession with an increase in crime and death rates. China experienced a huge increase in human welfare while Russia saw a huge downturn. After comparing China s and Russia s different path towards modernization, China has seen stronger and stabled growth as opposed to Russia s shortcomings. Russia began its reform with political liberalization, and many believe that Russia s failure was partly due to focusing on political reform first and they should have begun with economic reforms which China had done. This lead to political turmoil so severe that in 1989 1993 workers were politically neutralized and unable to stop Yeltsin s liberal market reforms. But, a small group of oligarchs helped to

In this essay project I will attempt to describe these differences, explain how artists, social economics and political factors might be used to account for these differences as well. Starting with Doge s Palace, this monument was put under construction in Venice in 1340 (Davies et al. 464). The design of the building had open space and an airy atmosphere, like most of the other buildings in Venice, the construction lacked a battle ready impenetrability about itself with little to no defensive design whatsoever (464). The stones in the Palazzo della Signoria are purposefully left to be rough and rusticated in order to convey fortification and strength (448). However, the two upper stones reveal smoother masonry and more graceful windows, which were pointed (Davies et al.448). The tall tower is intended to be symbolic of civil pride and to provide a safe vantage point for observation (448).
