Essay For Child Labour
Writing an essay on the topic of child labor can be a challenging task, as it involves delving into
a sensitive and complex issue that demands a careful and nuanced approach. Addressing the
ethical concerns, historical context, economic factors, and legal aspects surrounding child labor
requires thorough research and a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.
One of the difficulties lies in navigating through the emotional aspects of the topic. Child labor
is a grave issue that involves the exploitation and violation of children's rights, making it crucial
to strike a balance between presenting the harsh realities and maintaining a respectful tone.
Ensuring that the essay effectively communicates the urgency of addressing child labor without
sensationalizing or oversimplifying the matter is a delicate endeavor.
Moreover, crafting a compelling thesis statement that captures the essence of the issue and
guides the reader through the essay can be challenging. The need to provide a well-structured
argument, supported by credible sources and evidence, adds an extra layer of complexity.
Balancing statistical data, personal narratives, and expert opinions is vital to presenting a
comprehensive view of child labor.
Furthermore, maintaining objectivity while conveying the severity of the problem is essential.
The essay must avoid becoming overly biased or preachy, allowing the reader to form their own
informed opinions. Striking this balance requires careful consideration of language, tone, and the
overall rhetorical strategy employed.
In conclusion, writing an essay on child labor demands a careful navigation of emotional, ethical,
and factual dimensions. It requires a thorough understanding of the subject, a well-crafted
argument, and a nuanced approach to engage readers effectively. While challenging, tackling
this issue through informed and empathetic writing is crucial for raising awareness and
advocating for positive change.

being a member of a book club meant commanding respect in the society.
The society had a special place for the so called badge books. The works of James
Patterson did not enjoy similar status which resulted in lower readership amongst the
group of omnivorous readers.

are hardcover, paperback, electronic books, audio books. Hardcover books fetch the
maximum profits for the publisher and author.
Demands for E books are increasing as it is a low cost sales outlet. eBooks cost

Chemistry Of Airbags Lab Report
The chemistry of Airbags The airbags purpose is to move out quickly enough for a
head on collision, to prevent any harm to the individuals in the vehicle during a car
accident. The airbag system consists of a crash sensor(accelerometer),that detects
when a car decelerates very quickly, which then causes the ball(crash sensor) to
move forward and turn on the electrical circuit which causes the process of inflation
to occur. The gas generator in the airbag contains a mixture of NaN3, KNO3, and
SiO2.The current pulse heats up the sodium Azide, which then decomposes it into
sodium and nitrogen gas. Silicon dioxide, sodium oxide, and potassium oxide formed
then turn into glass. That fire triggered the chemical reaction that filled the nylon
fabric airbag... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Too little or lack of volume can cause no protection while too much will make the
airbag feel like a brick wall. The limiting reagent must be found (the amount of the
product is limited by this reagent) ,so the product would be just the right volume.
The amount of product needed can be calculated by the Ideal Gas Law. PV=nRT

The Government Of The United States Government
The United States government was created by the founding fathers to allow men to
be free, but to also have a governmental system that protects that freedom as well.
The United States government is problematic. It goes above and beyond the
necessity and, because of this, is dysfunctional at best. The government today has
gone beyond protecting the rights of American citizens. It has become a large
entity that is wholly useless. The government of the United States is too large,
therefore, this creates many problems with things like governmental overreach and
extreme inefficiency. A smaller government would be more functional and could
return to a more efficient, and likely constitutional basis of existence. It may be
difficult to move to a smaller government if the United States cannot figure out a
good way to do this. The size of the government has made it to be inefficient for
almost everyone to use. Unless one has insider knowledge, they must stand at the
back of a seemingly stagnant line to do simple tasks like applying for permits.
Some of this inefficiency is the result of errors made by the government which then
create more complications to fix. According to the Government Accountability
Office ( GAO ), the United States government spends about 45 billion dollars a year
on federal programs that are redundant (Ehley 2014). For a government that is about
18 trillion dollars in debt, that is an enormous amount of wasted money. The GAO
defines the federal programs as
Examples Of Religious Themes In The Hunchback Of Notre
Dame
In the modern era, most films are secular. They are not intended to present a
religious interpretation of life and we do not expect it from the film industry.
However, religion is a large part of the lives of most people, so it is realistic to
notice that religious references and ideas will be present in some films. William
Telford s religion and film model [1] makes it easier to depict if those underlying
religious themes are present. The movie most associated with religious themes
produced by Disney would have to be the Hunchback of Notre Dame . As stated by
Porter in the course notes [1], this film is a great fit for Telfords model. Claude
Frollo, is a deeply religious man who believes he is doing right by his religion by
taking in the seemingly unholy Quasimodo, after being judged by the Archdeacon.
He feels as though he is acting in a righteous manner when he adopts Quasimodo as
well as when he plans to commit genocide against all of the gypsies. As the plot
develops unlike Quasimodo, Frollo s belief in the church disappears, and this can
be seen in his determination to kill Esmeralda, believing if she is the source of his
lust and refuses to be with him romantically, she must die in a Hellfire . The
decisions of the main characters focused on right and wrong and good and evil
throughout the whole film, and how one will be judged solely by god, which is a
perfect parallel to this film and the very common Christian theme. Another film that
fits well with Telfords

The Theme Of Social Criticism In The House Of Mirth
The House of Mirth is a novel that condemns the elitist world of women and
promotes the idea that money can t buy happiness. Wharton wanted to present
American aristocracy when that aristocracy was doing so well. The novel
highlights each aspect of a person s social behavior because each detail can have
implications. Wharton wanted to mock the society, but also to show the tragedies in
it. Wharton considered New York society to be arrogant, trivial, and ridiculous. The
burden of tragedy to her often a humorous bitter satire of the ways of the wealthy is
related with Wharton s personal connection to this world. She is presenting a good
combination of criticism and social satire. According to Auchincloss, Wharton had a
firm grasp of what society, in the smaller sense of the word, was actually made up of.
She understood that it was arbitrary, capricious, and inconsistent; she was aware that
it did not hesitate to abolish its standards while most loudly proclaiming them. She
knew moneycould open doors and when it couldn t, when lineage would serve and
when it could be merely sneered at. Auchincloss continued: She realized that the

...And then there was the condemned meat industry, with its endless horrors. The
people of
Chicago saw the government inspectors from Packingtown [the meat packing district
of Chicago], and they all took that to mean that they were protected from diseased

selected at the request of the packing company, and that they were paid by the United
States government to ensure that all the diseased meat was kept in the state. They
had no authority beyond that; for the inspection of meat to be sold in the city and

level it prevailed in opposition to this ban plastic bags manufacturers. the Senate
voted in California by 22 votes in favor and 15 opposed to the bill, which must be
ratified by the Democratic Governor Jerry Brown by September 30, to become
valid. Brown did not announce his position on the bill. One of the supporter of the
bill said that the plastic bags once used not only contaminate our shores, but also
contaminate our mountains and rivers and the lakes as well. Under the law, which
was approved by the Governor of the state, located in the western United States,
would ban single use plastic bags in butcher shops and pharmacies, with effect
from the first of July 2015, and in neighborhood shops and department stores a year
from now. The law allows stores to impose a price 10 cents for paper bags or

strong government intervention in the affairs of small and medium sized companies,
while manufacturers of plastic bags stressed that this may lead to the exchange

Cassius Dio s Roles Of The Empire And Augustus
Cassius Dio insists the empire and Augustus owe an extraordinary amount to Gaius
Maecenas, Marcus Agrippa, and to a lesser extent, Livia. While the empire had
problems with stability from time to time, the three of them had their roles in
cultivating prosperity. The role of lifelong friend and confidante is attributed to
Agrippa, as his loyalty ceased to cultivate throughout the years. The trifecta aided
Augustusin ruling and improving the empire, while sporadically corralling the
Octavian mindset inside of Augustus. Augustus single handedly appointed Agrippa to
settle disputes that arose on the frontier, and in Rome. He was the ultimate plug n
play general of the empire, and proved his worth early on until his death in 12 B.C
through military ventures and building projects. Gaius Maecenas had a profound
impact on Augustus decision to retain the power that he acquired after defeating
Marc Antony and Cleopatra, which shaped the government into what eventually
existed in Dio s time. He also handled important business in Rome while the emperor
was absent, acting as a sit in caesar, if you will. Livia attempted to promote the
women of Rome, while also helping Augustus soothe relationships with the latter s
enemies. However, mischievous presumptions loom from Dio around Livia regarding
certain disastrous events. Nonetheless, without Livia, Maecenas, and especially
Agrippa, Octavian might not have ever had the chance to rule Rome. Cassius Dio

Breast Feeding Persuasive Speech

think this is an important issue today for several women. How is it fair that we have

while acting on a natural habit such as breast feeding her infant? Society is full of
harsh hypocrites. It s ok for woman to be braless wearing a tight shirt with her

Abstract In this paper, performance metric of orthogonal frequency division
multiplexing (OFDM) system is analyzed over a composite fading channel i.e.
generalized K fading channel. Here, OFDM system is considered which include
repetition code to enhance the wireless link performance with simplicity. Symbol
error rate (SER) performance is evaluated using binary phase shift keying (BPSK) and
16 qardature amplitude modulation (16 QAM) over generalized K fading channel.
This channel model considers Nakagami m distribution to define multipath and
gamma distribution to represent shadowing. Simulation results demonstrate that
improved system performance can be achieved using repetition code in severely
faded environment. A comparative study of coded and uncoded system is also given
in this paper. Consequently, SER performance is improved with the increase in shape
parameters.

A Collaborative Nursing Practice And The Nursing...
The way in which we perceive the world shapes our entire existence and is based
on the accumulation of varying interactions. Tom Rath and Donald O. Clifton,
authors of How Full Is Your Bucket?, provides strategies on how to increase
positivity. Their approaches are based around research findings and personal
stories. The powerful strategies reviewed in the book can be applied to nursing in
today s complex healthcare environment. Nursing is based on a collaborative effort
and substantial leadership principles. A collaborative nursing approach provides
differing perspectives from various healthcare personnel in an effort to deliver
quality care. Occasionally, differing outlooks from professional personnel can
present with conflicts and be miscommunicated along the way. By application of
leadership strategies from this book, nurses can deliver quality care, prevent
conflict, and demonstrate individual growth and organizational development. How
Full Is Your Bucket? is an inspiring book that describes how daily interactions
impact our wellbeing, productivity, longevity, and interpersonal relationships. The
concept can be applied to clinical practice and the nursing profession. Donald O.
Clifton, grandfather of Tom Rath, recognized that the field of Psychology was
grounded with a negative model because it had always been focused on the study of
what is wrong with people. Clifton believed this model could be reversed to focus on
the study of what is right with

Task #3: SUBDOMAIN 209.3 PRECALCULUS
Competency 209.3.1: Complex Number System
Jennifer Moore
Western Governor s University
Complex does not mean complicated (Math is Fun, 2014). Complex means a
combination of numbers. These combinations of numbers that form a complex
number consists of real numbers and imaginary numbers. The complex number
system is an extension of the real number system because it introduces the imaginary
number system to the real number system. The complex number system can be
visualized in two dimensions and the numbers within the system can be plotted
using a Cartesian plane. However, the axes are not exactly the same as a traditional
Cartesian plane (x axis and y axis). To plot the... Show more content on

The real number system consists of five subsets of numbers (Blitzer, 2013). The
first subset is natural numbers; natural numbers consist of positive counting
numbers not including zero. The second subset is whole numbers; whole numbers
consist of zero and natural numbers. The third subset is integers; integers are
positive and negative whole numbers, as well as zero. The fourth subset is rational
numbers; rational numbers are numbers that can be written in fraction form. The
fifth and last subset is irrational numbers; irrational numbers are numbers that are
not a perfect square, do not have a repeating or terminating decimal, and are not
included in the whole numbers subset (Blitzer, 2013). Rational and irrational
numbers are often the most difficult to understand out of these 5 subsets of real
numbers. Simply put, rational numbers are any numbers that can be re written as a
simple fraction, and if a number cannot be defined as rational then it is defined as
irrational. For example, the number 7 is a rational number because it can be re
written as , which is a simple fraction. The number 2.5 is also defined as rational
because it can be re written as , which, again, is a simple fraction. However, if the
number ПЂ were defined, it would have to be irrational since it has neither a
repeating decimal nor a terminating decimal, and cannot be written as a simple
fraction.
The Rhetorical Analysis Of Viva La Vida
Titanium This song relates specifically to the scene at the end where he stands up
for himself by refusing to give back his signature. They attempt to coax him into
handing it over and signing it in order to convict the other people holding out.
Then at the last moment he takes a stand for himself and the others by defying the
court and being hanged... He let there empty threats ricochet of him as he stands
defiant against the evil and corruption of the court. When he answers, I did not
when asked if he saw anyone else with him, he is standing up for for his friends
and protecting them. This parallels to the general tone of the song and strongly
relates to the lyrics, I m criticized but all your bullets ricochet You shoot me down,
but I get up I m bulletproof nothing to lose Fire away, fire away .
Viva La VidaViva La Vida is a song of remembrance for a time when the King of
France had real authority and now he is washed up and no longer respected. This
directly reflects the loss of authority that occurs throughout the story as Hale loses
respect. Hale goes from the de facto authority on witchcraft and a chief member of
the Salem court... to a person who s pleas and reasoning is dismissed. This is
shown in two quotes that represent him at the beginning and the end; these quotes
are, There be no unnatural causes here. Tell him I have sent for Reverend Hale of
Beverly, and Mister Hale will surely confirm that and Now hear me, and beguile
yourselves no more. I will not
The Legacy Of Daniel Libeskind
Daniel Libeskind was born in Lodz, Poland on May 12, 1946, to Polish Jewish
parents the year after World War II ended. His parents were Holocaust survivors, but
living in postwar Eastern Europe they found that the formal end of the Holocaust did
not bring an end to Anti Semitism violence. As Libeskind told Stanley Meisler of the
Smithsonian, Anti Semitism is the only memory I still have of Poland. In school. On
the streets. It wasn t what most people think happened after the war was over. It was
horrible. As a child, his parents wanted him to learn an instrument but felt that
bringing a piano into the house would draw too much attention. Thus, they bought
him an accordion, an instrument that could easily be concealed. With this learned
skill, Libeskind reached a small amount of fame at a young age. Libeskind and his
family led a nomadic life: at eleven, he moved with his family to Israel. Here, he
switched to the piano and eventually won an American Israel Cultural Foundation
scholarship, which enabled the family to move to the United States. Consequently,
at thirteen years old, they moved to New York. As Libeskind recalls: I arrived by
ship to New York as a teenager, an immigrant, and like millions of others before me,
my first sight was the Statue of Liberty and the amazing skyline of Manhattan. I have
never forgotten that sight or what it stands for. Although Libeskind continued to
study music and the performing arts, as he grew older he found it to be less and
College Pressures By William Zinsser
Students Facing Obstacle During College Life
During the college life students have to deal with different types of obstacles. In the
article, College Pressures William Zinsser focuses on the pressure faced by the
college students. He talks about how the students are dealing with economic pressure,
parental pressure, peer pressure, and self induced pressure. College students are
worried about getting high paid jobs and being rich instead of relaxing and enjoying
now. Zinsser claims that students are worried about their future by using pathos.
According to Zinsser, one of the pressure students has to face in the college is
economical. Pathos have been used by the author to make the reader feel that how
students are dealing with economic problems. Student with scholarship are very
safe and doesn t have to worry about an economic problem. Zinsser states I tell

The Turkish Letters Essay
The Turkish letters date back to 1555 1562, and is referencing the Ottoman empire s
progression to the throne. During this time, the state building of the Ottoman empire
was increasing and expanding immensely, due to Suleiman s rule. Suleiman led the
golden age of the Ottoman empire during his rule. The text displays the interactions
of the Sultan s laws and encounters among the people. The text explains that the
Sultan s hall was crowded with many people, and the Janissaries were in charge of
protecting him. The event that was taking place was an assembly discussing about
the Turkish Monarchs going to war, and the fear of Persia impacting the Ottoman
empire. This source represents the time period because while the Janissaries were

The author was trying to accomplish an insight on what life was like during the 15th
century, not only for the civilians, but the army and the Sultan. The author may have
had ulterior motives. One being that the janissaries did not like their job and did not
want to fight in war, but rather learn, study, and prosper through the years peacefully,
rather than violently.
The main idea of this text is the relationship between the people and the ruler of the

people living in the Ottoman Empire were concerned for their empire during war,

John Adams Contributions
John Adams once said, Always stand on principle... even if you stand alone ( ). John
Adams helped our nation get through some of its most difficult times, and he
accomplished that by always standing for what he believed in. He was very popular
during his political career, in fact, he had the leading role in the adoption of the
Declaration of Independence. Adams was the first vice president and second
president of the United States. People knew him to be very straight forward with his
thoughts, and that his pride often got in the way of giving the people what they
wanted. Adams was anything but a cold man, and those who knew him well, loved
him. But his bluntness, impatience, and vanity made more enemies than friends
(Hutson). Not many people knew John Adamsto be the caring and affectionate type,
but he certainly was in his diary and personal letters. Whether people favored John
Adams or not, he played an important role in making our government and country
what it is today.
John Adams was born on October 30, 1735 in Braintree, now Quincy, Massachusetts.
John was named after his father who was a farmer, shoemaker, and a militia officer.
His mother, Susanna Boylston was from a family of merchants and physicians from
Brookline and Boston. John Adams great great grandfather, Henry Adams migrated
from England with thousands of Puritans wanting to escape their homeland. As a
child, John helped his father on the farm with doing chores. John was the oldest of

Romero Jilyan Carrera Date: 01 05 14 1.Introduction: Imagine the confusion
among chemists during the middle of the nineteenth century. By 1860, more than
60 elements had been discovered. Chemists had to learn the properties of these
elements as well as those of the many compounds that they formed a difficult task.
And to make matters worse, there was no method for accurately determining an
element s atomic mass or the number of atoms of an element in a particular
chemical compound. Different chemists used different atomic masses for the
same elements, resulting in different compositions being proposed for the same
compounds. This made it nearly impossible for one chemist to understand the
results of another. Everything around us is made of atoms. Most objects are
mixtures or compounds of different types of atoms, but some common items
consist of only a single type of atom. Each image here represents a common item
that is composed of only one or a few elements. Pennies were once made of just one
element copper. Today, zinc is also a major component of pennies. If we could
look very closely at a copper penny, we would see that every atom is the same.
Typically, items in stores have been arranged so that it is easy to find what you are
looking for, and similar products are usually grouped together. This makes finding an
item simpler than if the items were just thrown

Essay about Eliyahu M. Goldratt s The Goal
The Goal
Here are the principles behind the dramatic turnaround story in The Goal.
The goal of a manufacturing organization is to make money. Jonah poses this as a
question: What is the goal? and Rogo actually struggles with it for a day or two, but
any manager or executive that can t answer that question without hesitation should be
fired without hesitation.
But then again, the goal isn t clear to everyone. One of the characters in the book, an
accountant, responds to an offhand comment about the goal with a confused The

their work in smaller chunks. Under a cost accounting model, this hurts their
efficiency by removing certain economies of scale. But you have much faster turn
around time. Everyone s more flexible. Work flows more smoothly. (Well, this is
what the book says.)

The Goal A Process Engineering Novel
I read Eliyahu M. Goldratt s novel The Goal the other night, instead of sleeping.
The book has two parts. In the first 264 pages, a manufacturing plant manager turns
his failing plant into a tremendous success. That part of the book ends with the
manager s promotion to a position with oversight over several failing plants. In the
second part of the book (73 pages), the manager prepares for his new job by trying to
deduce a repeatable process of ongoing improvement. He s trying to make sense of
what happened in the first part of the book so he ll have half a chance of repeating
that success on a greater scale.
For now, I ll set aside considerations of why The Goal is a novel, how effective it is
as a book, whether it succeeds as literature, and so on. This article is primarily about
the ideas behind the book, and why some are valuable while others are probably quite
useless.
How to Turn Around a Failing Plant
The first part of the book is about a manufacturing plant.
How Did Social Darwinism Influence Hitler
Social Darwinism was a sociological theory popular in late nineteenth century
Europe and the United States. It merged Charles Darwin s theory of natural
selection and Herbert Spencer s sociological theories to justify imperialism, racism,
and laissez faire (conservative) social and economic policies. Adolf Hitler was
amongst those inspired and spurred on by Social Darwinism, which he used as a
foundation for Nazi theory and race policies in the years leading up to the
Holocaust. In this paper I will discuss the profound influence of Darwinism on
Hitler s ideology, and examine the ways that the Nazi racial and biological policy
grew out of a well established and generally accepted scientific tradition.
There is little doubt that the history of ethnocentrism, racism, nationalism, and
xenophobia has been also a history of the use of science and the actions of
scientists in support of these ideas and social movements. In many cases it is clear
that science was used merely as raw material or evidence by ideologically interested
political actors as proof of preconceived notions.

Social Darwinists argued that individuals and groups, just like plants and animals,
competed with one another for success in life. They used this idea to justify the status
quo by claiming that the individuals (or groups of individuals) at the top of social,
economic, or political hierarchies belonged there, as they had competed against others
and had proven themselves best adapted. Any social or political intervention that
weakened the existing hierarchy, they claimed, would undermine the natural
The Operating System ( Os )
The operating system (OS) has two view points it provides services to:
1.User view
2.System view
User view: From user point of view operating system should be convenient and easy
to use and interact with. It should be better performance vice. Following are the two,
some of important services provided by the operating system that are designed for
easy to use computer system.
a)Program Execution: The major purpose of the operating system is to allow the user
to execute programs easily. The operating system provides an environment where
users can conveniently run or execute programs and as well as able to end programs.
Running programs involves memory management (the allocation and de allocation
memory), device management, processor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
sensors, motion detectors etc.). Almost all programs require some sort of input and
produces output. This involves the use of I/O operations. The operating system hides
the low level hardware communication for I/O operations from the user. User only
specifies device and the operation to perform, and only see that I/O has been
performed (i.e. choosing one of the printer in office for printing service). For security
and efficiency, user level programs cannot control I/O operations. Therefore, the
operating system must facilitate these services.
System view: From a system point of view operating system should allocate
resources (use system hardware) in a fair and efficient manner. This includes
algorithms for CPUs scheduling and avoiding deadlocks etc. Following are two
services for system hardware.
a)Resource Allocation: Modern computers are capable of running multiple programs
and can be used by multiple users at the same time. Resources allocation
/management is the dynamic allocation and de allocation by the operating system of
(hardware) including processors, memory pages, and various types of bandwidth to
the computation that compete for those resources. Operating system kernel, in which
all these functions, algorithms and services reside, is in charge of taking care of
resource allocation. The objective is to allocate resources so as to optimise
responsiveness subject to the finite resources available.
Fashion Design Piracy Essay
One of the biggest driving forces in the fashion industry nowadays is the continuous
introduction of new trends and the opportunity for designers to display their
creativity. So, when that individuality is stolen or copied from a designer, it can
produce uneasy consequences. Known as design piracy , this widespread
reproduction of designs has actually been around for decades. Not much has been
done at a federal level to prevent the moral and economic repercussions that stem
from it. However, despite the fact that designers lose both independent recognition
and profit for their work, in the long run, fashionpiracy actually helps grow the
industry by swiftly moving styles through society to make way for the next line of

Typically, these factories are located outside of the United States, and with cheap
and readily available labor, the knockoff designs can be created in a matter of
hours and shipped to stores months before the original version. These companies
are able to replicate the original designs almost perfectly, and for much less money,
as well. In turn, chain retailers like Bloomingdale s, Urban Outfitters, and Forever
21 then purchase hundreds of these clothes and promptly sell them to consumers
way before the original designs even have a chance to make their debut (Wilson).
The biggest problem with this is that fashion design is an art form in itself, and with
duplicates, the creative and original credit of the designers are lost. American
consumers can no longer tell what garments in a store are original and which have
been duplicated ( Stop Fashion Design Piracy ). From a moral perspective, this is
essentially burying the recognition that independent designers deserve for their work.
In addition, the widespread financial gap between the costs of production of
originals and knockoffs causes design piracy to have some economic ramifications.
Because the knockoff designs are manufactured at lower costs, they tend to sell for
much less; for example, a replicate might sell for up to one third the price of the
original design (Wilson). This lowered price, combined with the fact that the copied
design would hit store shelves first, causes consumers to deviate more

The flash fiction selection I chose for my performance is the story Mythologies

However, upon reading the story I was drawn in by the world surrounding the text.
A single paragraph of context is all that is given about why the story is being told.
The rest is dedicated to a boring drive to West Virginia and the trivialities of the

apparent lack of a central message is what really drew me towards the story.

committed to the principles of freedom (Mises 95). Throughout George Orwell s

While much of the society around him mindlessly follows the Party and Big Brother,
Winston finds himself stopping to question what makes mankind free. As he begins

Analysis Of The Sampler By Ira V. Morris

1984 The definition of a paradox is, A statement that on the surface seems a
contradiction, but that actually contains some truth. In George Orwell s, 1984, the
use of paradoxes is exemplified in an attempt to allow the reader to understand the
true intentions of a totalitarian government. By using war as a method of keeping
peace in the society or even going so far as to further the degree of ignorance to

In Oceania, there are no means of comparison, as communication is under the Party s

their annihilation. Knowledge grows through the education of the people, however
this is hindered by the enforcement of various literary features. The motif,
Newspeak, recurs throughout the novel, and illustrates how the government restricts
knowledge through the limitation of language. Newspeak is a language that has a
narrowed vocabulary in an attempt to exclude words that can raise awareness of
any suppressive behavior that the Party exerts. Don t you see that the whole aim of
Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thought crime
literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. This
quote best illustrates the Party s intentions for Newspeak in regards to this slogan.
The first sentence establishes how this motif is increasing ignorance, by narrowing
the range of thought. In doing so, the second sentence holds true as the more
ignorance that is spread through society, the more strength and power the Party gains

The Invention Of China s Inventions
On a daily basis, people come across hundreds of inventions that are made around
the world. Each one of these inventions have profoundly affected the way people live
their lives. China is one of the leading providers to the United States. They have also
made various inventions that people benefit from today.
One of China s earliest inventions was paper. This invention was developed in 105AD
and has become a product people still use today. The ingredients that were used to
make paper was a variety of fibrous materials, birch leaves, and wood pulp. The
process of making paper would take up to thirty days to construct. The production of
paper was a rigorous process that China held secret for hundreds of years.

By this time paper mills had been invented in other countries which caused the paper
to go from a complex recipe that was one held secret by the Chinese to a ubiquitous
production with the use of machinery.
People have come far in the innovation of paper. One component that has been altered
are the ingredients that go into the paper. Although some ingredients remain the same,
paper factories use more chemicals to manufacture paper rather than the traditional
ingredients. With this technology and different ingredients, making paper has now
become much easier and faster when compared to ancient times. It is now one of the
most used item in our daily lives.
Another Chinese invention that has had a profound affect in people s lives is
gunpowder. It was first invented in 142 AD by Wei Boyang (quart) and has
become a greatly used product around the world. Like many of China s inventions,
it was kept a secret. It was not until 1100s AD that this secret was discovered. The
first to hear about the discovery of the gunpowder was the Islamic empire. It was
then discovered by the Roman empire and soon made its way to Europe.
China first discovered gunpowder could be used as a weapon when they put
gunpowder on one end of a bamboo tube and a metal item on the other end. This
caused the gunpowder to explode and shoot the metal item from the other end. This
was the start of the weapons we use today.
The first ingredients that gunpowder was made with was a mixture of sulfur,
Corruption In Barn Burning
A bond between two people can be a powerful yet delicate force, and more often
than not, it can be abused. Throughout human history, young and innocent minds
have been manipulated by higher powers in attempts to create a population
unaware of the immoral activities carried out by those in charge. Many religious
cults and fascist governments have used this to create followers who blindly accept
their corrupt rules and policies. A simple relationship or bond could be used as a
method of control. However, this control sometimes fails, and some see through the
corruption at the trutt. Following that, is a fight for independence. In the case of
Sarty Snopes, his independence was gained through the struggles he faced with his
father, Abner. His forced loyalty to his father s crimes eventually pushes him to
break away, but at the price of his father s life. The story Barn Burningfocuses on the

On December 7th, 1941, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, causing it to become one of
the most infamous days in American history. Although numerous Americans
grieve the event each year, many people do not know what caused the tragedy to

enlarged breasts. This is because no incision will have to be made on the breasts, as
the implants are passed through the navel of the individual to the breasts. Here are
more reasons why most people are opting to get a TUBA breast lift.
This is a relatively safer option than surgery. This makes it a low risk option for
individuals who would rather not get undergo surgery. It will save you from the stress
and discomfort you will experience when you go through surgery.
It takes a short time to carry out the procedure. It can be safely done in under an hour.

Life Is The Most Important In Life
Why are we here, what is the purpose of life? Questions like these have haunted
human beings for millennia. How people answer questions such as these can
determine the course of their lives. The answers, of course, are as individual as are
people. For me, the answers revolve around three things that I consider the most
important in life: to know God, to know yourself, and to know your part or calling.
Know God
Knowing God is foremost because relationship with God is what people are
primarily made for. Loving God is the most enjoyable, fulfilling, energizing,
foundational relationship in life; nothing else compares. Being rooted and established
in [His] love (Ephesians 3:17, New International Version) anchors one in a way that
nothing else can. Since it is what people were created for, relationship with God
fulfills one s nature. Without an authentically experienced intimate relationship with
God, nothing in life will be right.
Know Yourself
The next most important thing in life is to know oneself. Without knowing
oneself, one will not be able to know God or anything else in life very well. If one
does not know what one wants or what one s desires, [motivations], dreams, likes,
and dislikes (Scazzero, 2006, p. 69) are, one will not know if one wants God or
even what one wants out of life. Socrates points out that the life which is
unexamined is not worth living (as cited in Hergenhahn, Henley, 2014, p. 41).
Knowing who you are can lead to a more fulfilling life.

Battle Of Shiloh Essay
nbsp; The Battle of Shiloh, also known as the Battle of Pittsburg Landing, was a
major battle in the Western Theater of the American Civil War, fought April 6 7,
1862, in southwestern Tennessee. A Union force known as the Army of the
Tennessee under Major General Ulysses S. Grant had moved via the Tennessee
River deep into Tennessee and was encamped principally at Pittsburg Landing,
Tennessee on the west bank of that river, where the Confederate Army of Mississippi,
under General Albert Sidney Johnston and second in command Pierre G. T.
Beauregard, launched a surprise attack on Grant s army from its base in Corinth,
Mississippi. Johnston was mortally wounded during the fighting; Beauregard, who
thus succeeded to command of the army, decided against pressing the attack late in
the evening. Overnight Grant was reinforced by one of his own... Show more content

Johnston hoped to defeat Grant s army before the anticipated arrival of General
Buell s Army of the Ohio. The Confederate battle lines became confused during the
fierce fighting, and Grant s men instead fell back to the northeast, in the direction of
Pittsburg Landing. A Union position on a slightly sunken road, nicknamed the
Hornet s Nest, defended by the men of Brig. Gens. Benjamin Prentiss s and William
H. L. Wallace s divisions, provided critical time for the remainder of the Union line
to stabilize under the protection of numerous artillery batteries. Wallace was mortally
wounded when the position collapsed, while several regiments from the two
divisions were eventually surrounded and surrendered. General Johnston was shot in
the leg and bled to death while personally leading an attack. Beauregard, his second
in command, acknowledged how tired the army was from the day s exertions and
decided against assaulting the final Union position that
Dreaming Vs. Reality In Descartes s Meditations
Descartes explores the idea of dreaming versus reality in his writings Meditations.
He describes how there are times when you lose sense of reality and enter a dream
like stage where everything seems real. He explains how to decipher the signs in
determining which state one has succumbed to. In accordance with the order of
my though perception; thus my meaning was that so far as I was aware, I knew
nothing clearly as belonging to my essence, expecting that I was a thing that
thinks, or a thing that has in itself the faculty of thinking (Haldane). Descartes is
saying that as long as he can clearly and distinctively perceive his long term
memory and subconscious as well as be aware of his living experiences the he is
in fact awake and not dreaming. Based on the proof of God s existence, he believes
that God does exist and is perfect. God will not deceive only pure truth. Descartes
first uses the radical doubt method to doubt about everything in the world and even
about his own existence. He has doubt about everything that exists before him such
as metaphysical Philosophy, theology of the Catholic Church, and theology of
Thomas Aquinas. To get a fresh, correct view of life, so no one can deny or object
to this way of viewing. Then he will build up his knowledge that is immune from
any doubt. This knowledge is the foundation for science development and helps
ending wars between religion and science. Descartes said, he is a thing that thinks, a
thing that doubts, affirms, denies. They are merely ways of thinking, and exist
inside of him (Haldane). Descartes figures out that he exists because he is aware of
his thinking. This is a great first step to build up knowledge that is immune from
doubt, and till this point, he can be immune from doubting about his own existence.
Next, Descartes is absolute in his knowledge that he is thinking but questions if he
can be certain in being absolute (Haldane). Till this point, knowing that only he exists
but doesn t know for sure about the existence of others around him. So it means that
Descartes might just be dreaming at this point and doesn t know anything about the
real world. If he can t go through the transition, he has no way to know about the
existence of other beings

One of the difficulties lies in navigating through the emotional aspects of the topic. Child labor is a grave issue that involves the exploitation and violation of children's rights, making it crucial to strike a balance between presenting the harsh realities and maintaining a respectful tone. Ensuring that the essay effectively communicates the urgency of addressing child labor without sensationalizing or oversimplifying the matter is a delicate endeavor. Chemistry Of Airbags Lab Report The chemistry of Airbags The airbags purpose is to move out quickly enough for a head on collision, to prevent any harm to the individuals in the vehicle during a car accident. The airbag system consists of a crash sensor(accelerometer),that detects when a car decelerates very quickly, which then causes the ball(crash sensor) to move forward and turn on the electrical circuit which causes the process of inflation to occur. The gas generator in the airbag contains a mixture of NaN3, KNO3, and SiO2.The current pulse heats up the sodium Azide, which then decomposes it into sodium and nitrogen gas. • 5. The Government Of The United States Government The United States government was created by the founding fathers to allow men to be free, but to also have a governmental system that protects that freedom as well. The United States government is problematic. It goes above and beyond the necessity and, because of this, is dysfunctional at best. The government today has gone beyond protecting the rights of American citizens. It has become a large entity that is wholly useless. The government of the United States is too large, therefore, this creates many problems with things like governmental overreach and extreme inefficiency. A smaller government would be more functional and could return to a more efficient, and likely constitutional basis of existence. It may be difficult to move to a smaller government if the United States cannot figure out a good way to do this. The size of the government has made it to be inefficient for almost everyone to use. Unless one has insider knowledge, they must stand at the back of a seemingly stagnant line to do simple tasks like applying for permits. Some of this inefficiency is the result of errors made by the government which then create more complications to fix. According to the Government Accountability Office ( GAO ), the United States government spends about 45 billion dollars a year on federal programs that are redundant (Ehley 2014). For a government that is about 18 trillion dollars in debt, that is an enormous amount of wasted money. The GAO defines the federal programs as
  • 6. Examples Of Religious Themes In The Hunchback Of Notre Dame In the modern era, most films are secular. They are not intended to present a religious interpretation of life and we do not expect it from the film industry. However, religion is a large part of the lives of most people, so it is realistic to notice that religious references and ideas will be present in some films. William Telford s religion and film model [1] makes it easier to depict if those underlying religious themes are present. The movie most associated with religious themes produced by Disney would have to be the Hunchback of Notre Dame . As stated by Porter in the course notes [1], this film is a great fit for Telfords model. Claude Frollo, is a deeply religious man who believes he is doing right by his religion by taking in the seemingly unholy Quasimodo, after being judged by the Archdeacon. He feels as though he is acting in a righteous manner when he adopts Quasimodo as well as when he plans to commit genocide against all of the gypsies. As the plot develops unlike Quasimodo, Frollo s belief in the church disappears, and this can be seen in his determination to kill Esmeralda, believing if she is the source of his lust and refuses to be with him romantically, she must die in a Hellfire . The decisions of the main characters focused on right and wrong and good and evil throughout the whole film, and how one will be judged solely by god, which is a perfect parallel to this film and the very common Christian theme. Another film that fits well with Telfords

Wharton wanted to present American aristocracy when that aristocracy was doing so well. The novel highlights each aspect of a person s social behavior because each detail can have implications. Wharton wanted to mock the society, but also to show the tragedies in it. Wharton considered New York society to be arrogant, trivial, and ridiculous. The burden of tragedy to her often a humorous bitter satire of the ways of the wealthy is related with Wharton s personal connection to this world. She is presenting a good combination of criticism and social satire. According to Auchincloss, Wharton had a firm grasp of what society, in the smaller sense of the word, was actually made up of. She understood that it was arbitrary, capricious, and inconsistent; she was aware that it did not hesitate to abolish its standards while most loudly proclaiming them. • 14. Cassius Dio s Roles Of The Empire And Augustus Cassius Dio insists the empire and Augustus owe an extraordinary amount to Gaius Maecenas, Marcus Agrippa, and to a lesser extent, Livia. While the empire had problems with stability from time to time, the three of them had their roles in cultivating prosperity. The role of lifelong friend and confidante is attributed to Agrippa, as his loyalty ceased to cultivate throughout the years. The trifecta aided Augustusin ruling and improving the empire, while sporadically corralling the Octavian mindset inside of Augustus. Augustus single handedly appointed Agrippa to settle disputes that arose on the frontier, and in Rome. He was the ultimate plug n play general of the empire, and proved his worth early on until his death in 12 B.C through military ventures and building projects. Gaius Maecenas had a profound impact on Augustus decision to retain the power that he acquired after defeating Marc Antony and Cleopatra, which shaped the government into what eventually existed in Dio s time. He also handled important business in Rome while the emperor was absent, acting as a sit in caesar, if you will. Livia attempted to promote the women of Rome, while also helping Augustus soothe relationships with the latter s enemies. However, mischievous presumptions loom from Dio around Livia regarding certain disastrous events. Nonetheless, without Livia, Maecenas, and especially Agrippa, Octavian might not have ever had the chance to rule Rome. Cassius Dio portrays Marcus Vispanius Agrippa

Here, OFDM system is considered which include repetition code to enhance the wireless link performance with simplicity. Symbol error rate (SER) performance is evaluated using binary phase shift keying (BPSK) and 16 qardature amplitude modulation (16 QAM) over generalized K fading channel. This channel model considers Nakagami m distribution to define multipath and gamma distribution to represent shadowing. Simulation results demonstrate that improved system performance can be achieved using repetition code in severely faded environment. A comparative study of coded and uncoded system is also given in this paper. Consequently, SER performance is improved with the increase in shape parameters. Keywords Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), Generalized K fading, binary phase shift keying (BPSK), 16 qardature amplitude modulation (16 QAM), symbol error rate (SER). Tom Rath and Donald O. Clifton, authors of How Full Is Your Bucket?, provides strategies on how to increase positivity. Their approaches are based around research findings and personal stories. The powerful strategies reviewed in the book can be applied to nursing in today s complex healthcare environment. Nursing is based on a collaborative effort and substantial leadership principles. A collaborative nursing approach provides differing perspectives from various healthcare personnel in an effort to deliver quality care. Occasionally, differing outlooks from professional personnel can present with conflicts and be miscommunicated along the way. By application of leadership strategies from this book, nurses can deliver quality care, prevent conflict, and demonstrate individual growth and organizational development. How Full Is Your Bucket? is an inspiring book that describes how daily interactions impact our wellbeing, productivity, longevity, and interpersonal relationships. The concept can be applied to clinical practice and the nursing profession. Donald O. Clifton, grandfather of Tom Rath, recognized that the field of Psychology was grounded with a negative model because it had always been focused on the study of what is wrong with people. Clifton believed this model could be reversed to focus on the study of what is right with

The second subset is whole numbers; whole numbers consist of zero and natural numbers. The third subset is integers; integers are positive and negative whole numbers, as well as zero. The fourth subset is rational numbers; rational numbers are numbers that can be written in fraction form. The fifth and last subset is irrational numbers; irrational numbers are numbers that are not a perfect square, do not have a repeating or terminating decimal, and are not included in the whole numbers subset (Blitzer, 2013). Rational and irrational numbers are often the most difficult to understand out of these 5 subsets of real numbers. Simply put, rational numbers are any numbers that can be re written as a simple fraction, and if a number cannot be defined as rational then it is defined as irrational. For example, the number 7 is a rational number because it can be re written as , which is a simple fraction. The number 2.5 is also defined as rational because it can be re written as , which, again, is a simple fraction. They attempt to coax him into handing it over and signing it in order to convict the other people holding out. Then at the last moment he takes a stand for himself and the others by defying the court and being hanged... He let there empty threats ricochet of him as he stands defiant against the evil and corruption of the court. When he answers, I did not when asked if he saw anyone else with him, he is standing up for for his friends and protecting them. This parallels to the general tone of the song and strongly relates to the lyrics, I m criticized but all your bullets ricochet You shoot me down, but I get up I m bulletproof nothing to lose Fire away, fire away . Viva La VidaViva La Vida is a song of remembrance for a time when the King of France had real authority and now he is washed up and no longer respected. This directly reflects the loss of authority that occurs throughout the story as Hale loses respect. Hale goes from the de facto authority on witchcraft and a chief member of the Salem court... to a person who s pleas and reasoning is dismissed. This is shown in two quotes that represent him at the beginning and the end; these quotes are, There be no unnatural causes here. Tell him I have sent for Reverend Hale of Beverly, and Mister Hale will surely confirm that and Now hear me, and beguile yourselves no more. I will not
  • 21. The Legacy Of Daniel Libeskind Daniel Libeskind was born in Lodz, Poland on May 12, 1946, to Polish Jewish parents the year after World War II ended. His parents were Holocaust survivors, but living in postwar Eastern Europe they found that the formal end of the Holocaust did not bring an end to Anti Semitism violence. As Libeskind told Stanley Meisler of the Smithsonian, Anti Semitism is the only memory I still have of Poland. In school. On the streets. It wasn t what most people think happened after the war was over. It was horrible. As a child, his parents wanted him to learn an instrument but felt that bringing a piano into the house would draw too much attention. Thus, they bought him an accordion, an instrument that could easily be concealed. With this learned skill, Libeskind reached a small amount of fame at a young age. Libeskind and his family led a nomadic life: at eleven, he moved with his family to Israel. Here, he switched to the piano and eventually won an American Israel Cultural Foundation scholarship, which enabled the family to move to the United States. Consequently, at thirteen years old, they moved to New York. As Libeskind recalls: I arrived by ship to New York as a teenager, an immigrant, and like millions of others before me, my first sight was the Statue of Liberty and the amazing skyline of Manhattan. I have never forgotten that sight or what it stands for. Although Libeskind continued to study music and the performing arts, as he grew older he found it to be less and

In the article, College Pressures William Zinsser focuses on the pressure faced by the college students. He talks about how the students are dealing with economic pressure, parental pressure, peer pressure, and self induced pressure. College students are worried about getting high paid jobs and being rich instead of relaxing and enjoying now. Zinsser claims that students are worried about their future by using pathos. According to Zinsser, one of the pressure students has to face in the college is economical. Pathos have been used by the author to make the reader feel that how students are dealing with economic problems. Student with scholarship are very safe and doesn t have to worry about an economic problem. Zinsser states I tell them to relax. They can t. Zinsser is trying to convince students not take the pressure, but he/she won t be able to relax because college demands too much of money. Just to pay for the college, students have to work during the weekends or whenever there is a free time. Zinsser supports his stamen by proclaiming Tuition, room, and board at most private colleges now comes to at least $7,000, not counting books and fees. This might seem to suggest that the colleges are getting rich. But they are equally battered by inflation. Tuition covers only 60% of what it costs to educate a student, and ordinarily the remainder

He was very popular during his political career, in fact, he had the leading role in the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Adams was the first vice president and second president of the United States. People knew him to be very straight forward with his thoughts, and that his pride often got in the way of giving the people what they wanted. Adams was anything but a cold man, and those who knew him well, loved him. But his bluntness, impatience, and vanity made more enemies than friends (Hutson). Not many people knew John Adamsto be the caring and affectionate type, but he certainly was in his diary and personal letters. Interpreting the periodic Table Lab partner s name: Priscila Baque Scarleth Romero Jilyan Carrera Date: 01 05 14 1.Introduction: Imagine the confusion among chemists during the middle of the nineteenth century. By 1860, more than 60 elements had been discovered. Chemists had to learn the properties of these elements as well as those of the many compounds that they formed a difficult task. And to make matters worse, there was no method for accurately determining an element s atomic mass or the number of atoms of an element in a particular chemical compound. Different chemists used different atomic masses for the same elements, resulting in different compositions being proposed for the same compounds. This made it nearly impossible for one chemist to understand the results of another. Everything around us is made of atoms. Most objects are mixtures or compounds of different types of atoms, but some common items consist of only a single type of atom. Each image here represents a common item that is composed of only one or a few elements. Pennies were once made of just one element copper. Today, zinc is also a major component of pennies. If we could look very closely at a copper penny, we would see that every atom is the same. Typically, items in stores have been arranged so that it is easy to find what you are looking for, and similar products are usually grouped together. This makes finding an item simpler than if the items were just thrown

In the second part of the book (73 pages), the manager prepares for his new job by trying to deduce a repeatable process of ongoing improvement. It merged Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection and Herbert Spencer s sociological theories to justify imperialism, racism, and laissez faire (conservative) social and economic policies. Adolf Hitler was amongst those inspired and spurred on by Social Darwinism, which he used as a foundation for Nazi theory and race policies in the years leading up to the Holocaust. In this paper I will discuss the profound influence of Darwinism on Hitler s ideology, and examine the ways that the Nazi racial and biological policy grew out of a well established and generally accepted scientific tradition. There is little doubt that the history of ethnocentrism, racism, nationalism, and xenophobia has been also a history of the use of science and the actions of scientists in support of these ideas and social movements. In many cases it is clear that science was used merely as raw material or evidence by ideologically interested political actors as proof of preconceived notions. Social Darwinism ... Following are the two, some of important services provided by the operating system that are designed for easy to use computer system. a)Program Execution: The major purpose of the operating system is to allow the user to execute programs easily. Running programs involves memory management (the allocation and de allocation memory), device management, processor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... sensors, motion detectors etc.). Almost all programs require some sort of input and produces output. This involves the use of I/O operations. The operating system hides the low level hardware communication for I/O operations from the user. User only specifies device and the operation to perform, and only see that I/O has been performed (i.e. choosing one of the printer in office for printing service). For security and efficiency, user level programs cannot control I/O operations. Therefore, the operating system must facilitate these services. System view: From a system point of view operating system should allocate resources (use system hardware) in a fair and efficient manner. This includes algorithms for CPUs scheduling and avoiding deadlocks etc. Following are two services for system hardware. a)Resource Allocation: Modern computers are capable of running multiple programs and can be used by multiple users at the same time. Resources allocation /management is the dynamic allocation and de allocation by the operating system of (hardware) including processors, memory pages, and various types of bandwidth to the computation that compete for those resources. Operating system kernel, in which all these functions, algorithms and services reside, is in charge of taking care of resource allocation. The objective is to allocate resources so as to optimise responsiveness subject to the finite resources available.

So, when that individuality is stolen or copied from a designer, it can produce uneasy consequences. Known as design piracy , this widespread reproduction of designs has actually been around for decades. Not much has been done at a federal level to prevent the moral and economic repercussions that stem from it. These companies are able to replicate the original designs almost perfectly, and for much less money, as well. In turn, chain retailers like Bloomingdale s, Urban Outfitters, and Forever 21 then purchase hundreds of these clothes and promptly sell them to consumers way before the original designs even have a chance to make their debut (Wilson). The biggest problem with this is that fashion design is an art form in itself, and with duplicates, the creative and original credit of the designers are lost. American consumers can no longer tell what garments in a store are original and which have been duplicated ( Stop Fashion Design Piracy ). From a moral perspective, this is essentially burying the recognition that independent designers deserve for their work. In addition, the widespread financial gap between the costs of production of originals and knockoffs causes design piracy to have some economic ramifications. Because the knockoff designs are manufactured at lower costs, they tend to sell for much less; for example, a replicate might sell for up to one third the price of the original design (Wilson). This lowered price, combined with the fact that the copied design would hit store shelves first, causes consumers to deviate more

From the 1990 s, one would easily categories Anderson s cinematic style as one that incorporates more quirky comedy and the whimsical motifs in terms of allowing nostalgia to supremely reign, staging children to have existential importance, designing families to meet in strangest of the places, incorporation of strange human conversation and interaction, presentation of art as being more important than any other thing in the world, staging obsessed and self absorbed characters, providing for every other thing to be extraordinarily rectilinear and the presentation of children as more adult than adults. Anderson s films are known for allowing nostalgia to supremely reign. This is one of the strongest characteristics of
  • 42. Pearl Harbor Bombing Effect On December 7th, 1941, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, causing it to become one of the most infamous days in American history. Although numerous Americans grieve the event each year, many people do not know what caused the tragedy to occur. In 1937, Japan invaded China, where many Americans had gone to be missionaries. Quickly, Japan seized much of Indochina and was planning on acquiring more ( History of Pearl Harbor ). The Japanese began bombing and hit a U.S. Navy ship. As a result, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt moved the Navy s Pacific Fleet from California to Pearl Harbor to keep a better eye on the Japanese (Allen, 11 12). • 44. Life Is The Most Important In Life Why are we here, what is the purpose of life? Questions like these have haunted human beings for millennia. How people answer questions such as these can determine the course of their lives. The answers, of course, are as individual as are people. For me, the answers revolve around three things that I consider the most important in life: to know God, to know yourself, and to know your part or calling. Know God Knowing God is foremost because relationship with God is what people are primarily made for. Loving God is the most enjoyable, fulfilling, energizing, foundational relationship in life; nothing else compares. Being rooted and established in [His] love (Ephesians 3:17, New International Version) anchors one in a way that nothing else can. Since it is what people were created for, relationship with God fulfills one s nature. Without an authentically experienced intimate relationship with God, nothing in life will be right. Know Yourself The next most important thing in life is to know oneself. Without knowing oneself, one will not be able to know God or anything else in life very well. If one does not know what one wants or what one s desires, [motivations], dreams, likes, and dislikes (Scazzero, 2006, p. 69) are, one will not know if one wants God or even what one wants out of life. Socrates points out that the life which is unexamined is not worth living (as cited in Hergenhahn, Henley, 2014, p. 41). Knowing who you are can lead to a more fulfilling life.

Grant had moved via the Tennessee River deep into Tennessee and was encamped principally at Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee on the west bank of that river, where the Confederate Army of Mississippi, under General Albert Sidney Johnston and second in command Pierre G. A Union position on a slightly sunken road, nicknamed the Hornet s Nest, defended by the men of Brig. Gens. Benjamin Prentiss s and William H. L. Wallace s divisions, provided critical time for the remainder of the Union line to stabilize under the protection of numerous artillery batteries. Wallace was mortally wounded when the position collapsed, while several regiments from the two divisions were eventually surrounded and surrendered. General Johnston was shot in the leg and bled to death while personally leading an attack. Beauregard, his second in command, acknowledged how tired the army was from the day s exertions and decided against assaulting the final Union position that
  • 47. Dreaming Vs. Reality In Descartes s Meditations Descartes explores the idea of dreaming versus reality in his writings Meditations. He describes how there are times when you lose sense of reality and enter a dream like stage where everything seems real. He explains how to decipher the signs in determining which state one has succumbed to. In accordance with the order of my though perception; thus my meaning was that so far as I was aware, I knew nothing clearly as belonging to my essence, expecting that I was a thing that thinks, or a thing that has in itself the faculty of thinking (Haldane). Descartes is saying that as long as he can clearly and distinctively perceive his long term memory and subconscious as well as be aware of his living experiences the he is in fact awake and not dreaming. Based on the proof of God s existence, he believes that God does exist and is perfect. God will not deceive only pure truth. Descartes first uses the radical doubt method to doubt about everything in the world and even about his own existence. He has doubt about everything that exists before him such as metaphysical Philosophy, theology of the Catholic Church, and theology of Thomas Aquinas. To get a fresh, correct view of life, so no one can deny or object to this way of viewing. Then he will build up his knowledge that is immune from any doubt. This knowledge is the foundation for science development and helps ending wars between religion and science. Descartes said, he is a thing that thinks, a thing that doubts, affirms, denies. They are merely ways of thinking, and exist inside of him (Haldane). Descartes figures out that he exists because he is aware of his thinking. This is a great first step to build up knowledge that is immune from doubt, and till this point, he can be immune from doubting about his own existence. Next, Descartes is absolute in his knowledge that he is thinking but questions if he can be certain in being absolute (Haldane). Till this point, knowing that only he exists but doesn t know for sure about the existence of others around him. So it means that Descartes might just be dreaming at this point and doesn t know anything about the real world. If he can t go through the transition, he has no way to know about the existence of other beings
