The major areas of environmental focus were stated as energy and greenhouse emissions reduction
(NatHERS Star ratings). NatHERS is the Nationwide House Energy Rating System now mandatory
for any housing development applications in NSW (New South Wales). It forms part of BASIX
which aims to reduce water consumption and effluent flows, improve internal environmental
quality (thermal, acoustic, air quality, light quality), and reduce materials consumption with focus
on materials that have environmental impacts in their production (see page 17).
In addition, on the 2 December 2004, Lend Lease Property Management Australia (LLPMA) and
EPA signed a sustainabilitycovenant, which was a commitment to the public that both organisations
will work together to protect and contribute to a more sustainable environment. The aim of this
declaration was to ensure that Lend Lease is empowered to develop a strategic approach to
sustainability issues. With this comes the responsibility to publicly report the progress towards
achieving the sustainability outcomes. Although this covenant was signed by Lend Lease, it is now
with General Property Trust, which was until 2005 part owned and managed by Lend Lease and is

RQ-7 Shadow
The continued development of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) creates new capabilities and
continually improves legacy platforms. A system in development over the years is the RQ 7
Shadow. This platform has a wide verity of uses and capabilities ranging from tactical to
strategic mission sets. The United States developed this system to provide Brigade (BDE)
commanders with improved capabilities and situational awareness within their area or
responsibility (AOR) (TC 2 22.7, 2011). Through these advancements UAS are improving the
capabilities within the geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) profession by helping to solve
GEOINT intelligence problem sets. The United States military used UAS technology during
WWII and the Vietnam wars. However, the development of the RQ 7 Shadow did not start until
1991. It was first flown by the Army for testing in 1992 and mass production began in 1999.
Manufacturers delivered the RQ 7 Shadow to army units in 2001 and began operations in 2002
(Military Periscope, 2014). The most common payload the RQ 7 carries is the Plug in Optronic
Payload visible/Infrared (P.O.P. visible/IR). The P.O.P. visible/IR payload gives the shadow
capabilities to shoot full motion video (FMV) day and night, daytime TV during the day, and Near
Infrared (NIR) throughout the night (TC 2 22.7, 2011). By... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Quality GEOINT analysis leads to proper area reconnaissance, BDA, IED/counter drug measures,
and targeting. However, the Shadow is not always the best option, because it can be unreliable
due to data link and weather issues, engine noise, and limited flight time. The US Army can also
use this asset to help and aid partnered countries. The Shadow continues to advance in capabilities
and technologies. Ultimately, the RQ 7 Shadow is an asset that can generate great results, because
it is easily accessible to the GEOINT

Summary Of Fast Entertainment And Multitasking In An...
Although progression across the world may have slowed at times, progress has constantly been
made in just about every field imaginable. Technology has exploded in recent years, and such
developments have meant a lot for the future of communication amongst the human race. Of course,
as with nearly every other rapidly expanding medium that leads to drastic changes for the way
humans interact, there are analysts following the change. One such analyst is S. Craig Watkins,
who wrote an essay titled Fast Entertainment and Multitaskingin an Always On World in his book
The Young and the Digital (2009). In the essay, which numbers about nine pages, Watkins discusses
recent technological advancements and what they mean for society. The article begins... Show more

While writing this essay, I continued to glance at my phone and would occasionally get lost in
conversation. Eventually, I had to move my phone to another room to keep the temptation out of
sight. Although anecdotal, even this is a powerful message as to the negative impact of fast
entertainment. As I was reading through the essays in Signs of Life in the USA, I couldn t resist
writing about this particular essay because of the personal relevance that it contains. In this
writing, the author touches on many points, and delivers a powerful message against the life style
that is provoked by fast entertainment. One idea from the text that I found most striking was the
train incident in which twenty five people lost their lives because the driver of the train had been
distracted with his cellular device. Of course, this is an upsetting figure, and it goes an extremely
long way for expressing the negative implications with society s current enthrallment of digital
speed entertainment. I found these ideas to be are exceptionally interesting, and aside from the
obvious don t text and drive, most of these ideas are new to me. This text conveys an incredibly
crucial message that astounding numbers of people are unaware of; Although our modern lifestyle
may seem to be nothing but harmless (especially in regards to speedy entertainment or text
messaging), the truth is there s a landslide of underlying

What is Body Mass Index?
By definition, Body Mass Index is a measurement representing the ratio of a person s body weight
to his or her height. The BMI describes the body weight relative to height, and it correlates strongly
(in adults) with the total body fat content.
A body mass index of less than 20 is considered to be underweight, while a body mass index
between 20 and 25 is considered healthy. A body mass index in the range of 25 to 30 is regarded as
overweight. A body mass index over 30 is regarded as obese. A body mass index of 100 or greater

I have developed the following exercise regimen to remain active at least 1 hour a day, for at least 5
days a week:
Lunges approximately 15 minutes of this exercise can burn approximately 500 calories.
Bicycling approximately 25 minutes of biking can burn approximately 1100 calories.
Stretching In an effort to increase flexibility, which will help with the short and long term effects
of moderate workouts, I will perform approximately 10 minutes of stretching before and after
workouts. This will also burn approximately 200 calories.
In total, based on a 1400 1600 calorie diet, and an exercise regimen that burns approximately 1800
calories, I can anticipate losing approximately 1 2 pounds a week.

Nics Have Been and Continue to Be the Driving Force of...
NICs have been and continue to be the driving force of globalisation. Discuss. An NIC stands for
a Newly Industrialised Country. It is a term used to describe a country that has moved away
from an agriculture based economy and into a more industrialised, urban economy. These
countries have a high growth rate. Current NICs include China, India, Brazil, Malaysia, Mexico,
South Africa, Philippines, Thailand and Turkey. The average growth rate between these countries
is approximately 7.64% compared to the world average of 3.7% (2011). The average Gross
Domestic Product (GDP) per capita for these NICs is US$10,769 compared to the world average

TNCs dominate industrial production including manufacturing and services, therefore further
dividing the gap between the rich and the poor, and being the main leader of globalisation as a
consequence. TNCs work to meet the demand for its good from HICs. For example, Toyota, like
many other TNCs undertakes much of its manufacturing in LICs in order to meet the high and
constant demand from HICs. Manufacturing in LICs is preferred as it provides these large
companies with cheap labour. Toyota was recorded as the fifth largest TNC in 2010. It has 51
overseas manufacturing companies in 26 countries and regions, it has Design and Research and
Development centres in the USA, Japan, Belgium, the UK, France, Thailand and Australia, and its
headquarters are in Japan. Globalisation inevitably increases pressure to liberalise trade and to
eliminate tariffs and non trade barriers. Liberalisation of trade within OPEC clearly resulted in
China (an NIC) for example, gaining a comparative advantage over the US (MIC) in the
manufacture of machinery products. Globalisation has also been a resulting factor for the dramatic
increase in technology. Bangalore, in the Silicon Valley of India is experiencing a remarkable IT
boom, that is transforming the prospects of India s economy. The internet is the fastest growing
tool of communications. It took just 4 years for the internet to reach 50 million years, in contrast to

Milky Way Compare And Contrast
In about 4 billion years, the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies will collide. The two
neighbouring galaxies are located in a collection of other galaxies acknowledged as the local
group. This group contains more than 50 galaxies, with a majority of them being dwarf galaxies.
The largest and most massive of galaxies are the Milky Way, Andromeda, and the Triangulum
galaxy. All three of these have a gathering of satellite galaxies surrounding them. Just like how
planets orbit around the sun, these smaller galaxies contain billions of stars and orbit around the
galaxy s center. The satellite galaxies orbit these larger galaxies due to the great gravitational
attraction the larger galaxies emit.
The Milky Way galaxy has an assortment of approximately 30 satellite galaxies which include
Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy, Large Magellanic Cloud, and Small Magellanic Cloud, just to name a
few. The Andromeda galaxy has about 15 satellite galaxies, and the Traingulum galaxy has the

000 light years. The mass of the Milky Way is approximately more than 400 solar masses. The
center, Sagittarius A, is located about 26 000 light years from Earth and contains a supermassive
black hole. The other galaxy involved in the future collision is the Andromeda galaxy, or M31.
There are about 1 trillion stars and could possibly contain more dark matter than the Milky Way.
Its name comes from the constellation of Andromeda, which originated from the mythological
princes Andromeda. It is a spiral type galaxy with at least two spiral arms and a diameter of 260

Analysis Of Donald Trump s Politics As A Vocation
In the days following the United States presidential election, many Americans voiced their disbelief
that Donald Trump, a man longtime considered a political joke and nuisance, won the election. But
despite his brashness, entire lack of eloquence, and discriminatory tendencies, Trump was in fact
elected. Many of Trump s supporters attribute his success to his fundamentally different approach to
politics and leadership. Max Webers lecture, Politics as a Vocation, provides an explanation of
how Trump s campaign was successful, why he is perceived as refreshing and different by his
supporters, and how these same supporters were able to overlook Trump s flaws. Weber defines in
his lecture, three ideal types of authority; traditional, legal, and charismatic. Traditional authority
can be associated with Hillary Clinton and her institutionalized style of politics, while Trump is
aligned with charismatic authority. Trump s charismatic leadership style contrasts the traditional
American political approach which contributes to the perception of him as working against the
status quo rather than for it. Weber s description of how... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be sure, Weber s description of charismatic leadership does not account for all of the forces at
play during the election, but his theory does shed light on why many individuals view Trump s
style of leadership as different and necessary in this current political moment. Weber s discussion of
the charismatic leader as an infallible authority with a perceived legitimate claim of power
highlights why Trump supporters endorsed his rhetoric despite its many logical, political, and
ethical flaws. Yet, according to Weber, Trump s current style of leadership and authority cannot last
in the long term. This may be a comforting or concerning notion, but nonetheless, sheds light on
what may occur during the Trump

Neolithic Vs Paleolithic
The Paleolithic and Neolithic people both lived in the Stone Age, but they each had different ways
of living using primitive tools. The Paleolithic people lived first in the Old Stone Age, and the
Neolithic people lived next in the New Stone Age. Their cultures were very different, and the art
they created often reflected those cultures.
Paleolithic culture involved a nomadic and hunting lifestyle. The people were always on the move
and making their homes in caves, rocky overhangs, tents, and huts. Since the people were nomads,
there were many different nomadic parties with different traditions. Despite this, they were able to
increase the technology of their age. They created weapons and tools out of stone, and they were
able to create fire. The tools created with stone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most noticeable aspect of their art was the creation of the megaliths. The three types of
megaliths are menhirs, dolmens, and cromlechs. Menhirs were single stones standing upright in the
ground. Dolmens were two stones standing upright from the ground and supporting a large single
stone. Cromlechs were a combinations of menhirs and dolmens arranged in a circle or semicircle
formation. The megaliths were huge smooth stones that ended up being permanent structures. This
reflects the Neolithic lifestyle of creating permeant structures as homes. Stonehenge in England is a
cromlech formation that still lasts today.
The Paleolithic and Neolithic people both had unique cultures and the art they created is a way a
communicating their life to the people today. These people had to work and survive using simple
tools. Modern people have the gift of modern technology to make their lives go smoother, but the
Stone Age people worked hard every day to survive. Even if we don t live in the Stone Age, people
today should learn from their example and work just as hard to preserve our culture and

Revelation 20
The thousand years in Revelation is only used six times and only in chapter 20 between verses 2
7. In verse 7 it is a reference to after the thousand years and in this paper we will concentrate on
verses 1 6 which focus on the thousand years themselves. Since a thousand years equals a
millennium this term we will be used interchangeably from this point forward. The millennium in
Revelation 20 is only used in reference to the reign of Jesus Christ after Satan the devil has been
imprisoned. There are three main views on this millennial reign they are Amillennial,
Postmillennial, and Premillennial. While there is much debate over the differences, all three views

The classical postmillennial view sees the millennium as a near future event. The modern
postmillennial view sees us as currently in the millennium. The postmillennial millennium may
be an actual or symbolic (long time) thousand years. Both see that by spreading the gospel, the
church will cause the world to continuously improve till the entire world comes to Christ. The
conclusion of the millennium will be the second coming of Jesus Christ and the defeat of the
Devil. The view that the church needs to continue spread the gospel and should except Christ to
return at any time is correct. As for the world continuing to improve it would seem to this author
that the world is currently going in the wrong direction. Gay and lesbian marriage has been
legalized, abortion has been legalized, and President Obama has said that we are not a Christian
country. The Olivet Discourse (Matt 24; MK 13; LK 21) does not lead one to see peace on earth
before the return of Christ. It actually teaches the opposite. How can we have the millennial reign
of Christ and have false messiahs and prophets, wars, famines, pestilence, persecution, and
earthquakes? The postmillennial view requires that we ignore the world s current state, and
constrain the Olivet Discourse to the Jews of that time and the end of the world as they knew

Essay On Loving Vs Virginia
Although there were no federal laws regarding interracial marriage at the time of the dispute,
each state had their own stance and set of laws. In fact, Virginia [was] one of 16 States which
prohibit[ed] and punish[ed] marriages on the basis of racial classifications, and this practice of
banning interracial marriages arose[d] as an incident to slavery and [had] been common in Virginia
since the colonial period (Loving v. Virginia). Also, after the ratification of the Racial Integrity Act
of 1924, which stated that no caucasian person could ever mix bloods with any other race such as
African American or Native America in Virginia, miscegenation
was outlawed in Virginia in to the
hopes to maintain pure white bloodlines (Loving v. Virginia; Wolfe). The local Virginia government
later stated that it was not a racist or unequal law since both members, both white and black or
native american, who participated in an interracial marriagewould be punished (Loving v. Virginia).
However, times were changing, and as the Civil Rights progressed, ideas of separate but equal
brought about by the case Plessy v. Ferguson were no longer current.
Mildred Jeter was an African American and Native American woman who grew up in Central

Even though there was still to a certain extent a paternalistic tenor in the diction of the event

The reason being is that I am caucasian and I am a female. This is not the traditional traits for a

is traditionally violent and vulgar. For this reason, many parents and grandparents are
completely against this genre. However, tap is very popular among youth and that is why it
needs to change. We cannot change what music children and teens like but we can change what
the music is saying. It is not good for a child or teen s head to be filled with the negativity,
vulgarity, and violence that is often exhibited in mainstream rap songs. I believe that music
should build it s listener up through positivity. This is where I see myself as an agent of change.
When I write music, I include positive topics and clean lyrics that are appropriate for any age. I
look to make a difference with every song I make. I seek to shift the genre of rap from being a
negative influence to being a positive influence. I see myself as an agent of change in this music
epidemic that infiltrates the minds of children, teens, and even adults. Music should be positive
and uplifting. It should also be real and appropriate for any age. I strive to start a tidal wave of

Stoics And Aquinas
Throughout the many arguments regarding the relationship between the virtuous man and passions
discussed by St. Thomas Aquinas, one argument, in particular, stands out for its agreement with the
philosophical view of the Stoics. While Aquinas is a prominent Catholic philosopher and theologian
known for his argumentative style of defending and teaching Catholic doctrine as well as providing
insightful and compelling outlooks regarding ethical matters, the Stoics are known for their staunch
and what can be perceived as restrictive views on emotions, passions, and matters of the same

Aquinas identifies the virtuous man as the one who really lives out his function and acts in accord
with reason, but even desires in accord with reason. Both the Stoics and Aquinas would agree that
the virtuous man has the virtues; temperance, fortitude, courage, and justice which are all properly
ordered with his reason. When reason is removed or blurred the virtuosity of the person is called
into question. Virtue cannot be fulfilled without reason, and vice versa, however the one factor that
can alter or affect reason, is passion. The Stoics characterized passion as any emotions in disaccord
with or exceed reason and Aquinas defined passions as any movement from the sense appetite.
Aquinas believes that if all passions belong to the sense appetite, then passions can be moderated
and perfected by reason. These two varying definitions of passion show the rigidity of the Stoic
view by portraying the virtuous man as the passionless man, which by default means the virtuous
man lacks antecedent passions. Aquinas would disagree that the virtuous lacks passion but, he
would state that passions can perhaps negatively affect the judgement of reason. Nonetheless both
he and the Stoics agreed that the virtuous man lacks what are called antecedent passions.
Antecedent passions according to Aquinas, obscure the judgement of reason, on which the
goodness of the moral act depends, they diminish the goodness of the act. In other words antecedent
passions

What Does The Poem Represent The Hardship Of Child Labor...
Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience represent the hardship of child labor during the mid

emotions and situations for the two boys in Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience shows
their hope, religion, and the way their stories end. In Songs of Innocence the chimney sweeper
had an overall positive outlook on life but has a bittersweet ending. The boy had a dream showing

Core Competencies For Healthcare Professionals
My Leadership SMART Goal
The Institute of Medicine has defined five core competencies for healthcare professionals. These
competencies are to provide patient centered care, work in inter professional teams, employ
evidence based practice, apply quality improvement, and utilize informatics. (Finkelman, 2012, p.
214). Nurse leaders recognize that the need to put the patient first is at the heart of patient centered
care and is significant in all aspects of nursing care. Patient centered care incorporates collaboration
with the patient and family and takes into consideration cultural diversity or issues that will affect
the patient s ability to manage and maintain their health. Keeping the lines of communication open
with our patients involves assuring that they are kept abreast of their health management and
provided with up to date education to help them utilize measures to maintain their health. As nurses
we are accountable to our patients and need to stay current with our own education and commit to
lifelong learning (Fights, 2012) to be sure we are passing on up to date and relevant information.
Acquiring certification is an important way of validating our practice and proving our commitment
to providing quality patient centered care. Fights challenges us to ask ourselves if we are
committed to lifelong learning or furthering our education. Signing up at Chamberlain to obtain my
BSN was an important step for me but I will not let this be the end of learning.

Weight Loss Profile
Identifying your Health and Weight Profile for Successful Weight Loss
Even though there are some people who gain weight for genetic reasons, typically the main cause
of having excess pounds on your frame comes from the type of lifestyle that you lead. This means
that if you want to lose weight, you need to step back and see where your health flaws in your
lifestyle lay.
If you are the type of person to indulge in fast food, sweets and other high calorie indulgences on a
regular basis, you can probably safely say that your weight issues are not genetic or health related.
If you want to honestly see what your health and eating habits are, you can always make yourself up
a health and weight profile to see exactly where your flaws are.
To start out, go ahead and make a chart that shows for every day what you ate, when you ate it and

Dispersed throughout Australia s short history there are ten policies which impacted the Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander people. These policies began with Colonisation in 1788 and are ongoing
today within the Indigenous Advancement Strategies. Throughout the duration of this essay the
impact that two of the ten policies, Colonisation (1788 1880) and Assimilation (1950 1960) had,
will be discussed. Analysis of how these policies affected First Peoples contemporary health and the

For a non indigenous person health means the condition of the body and the degree to which it
is free from illness, or the state of being well (Cambridge University Press, 2017). However, for
First People the definition of health and wellbeing is much more than a physical form. Kinship,
Descent, Connection to land and Country as well as tradition are all factors which combine
towards a balanced life (REF). With disruption of these factors the balance is tilted and
subsequently there is a decline in health. Therefore, with destruction of land, communities and
tradition colonisation dismantled the meaning of health for the First People leading to increased
illness and deceased. This disruption is still affecting First Peoples health today as the
disconnection to the above factors are ongoing. This disconnection has lead to First peoples
having 1O year life gap to their non indigenous counterparts (Australian Bureau Statistics, 2013).
Between 1950 and 1960 the Assimilation Period occurred in Australia . This policy was a, policy
of absorbing Aboriginal people into white society through the process of removing children from
their families. The ultimate intent of this policy was the destruction of Aboriginal society.
(George G. and George K. , 2013) This policy was adopted after segregation as the First People

How Do You Explain The Steps Involved In The Urinary System
To explain how diabetes affects the different systems, we need to know how the act normally. The
urinary system normal function is to maintain the acid base balance, conserve fluids, regulate the
amount of salts and water in the blood and eliminate liquid waste, known as urea. The urinary
system works together with the lungs, skin and intestines to maintain the balance of chemicals and
water in the body. The typical adult urinates approximately twenty seven to sixty eight fluid once a

Secretion is when ions pass from the capillaries into the renal tubule, this becomes urine. The
urine passes through the ureters, and drain into the bladder. The bladder is where urine is
collected and stored until an urge to release it. When emptying the bladder sphincter open and
urine flows, which travels down the urethra that passes outside the body. Glucose should not be
filtered out of the body by the kidneys; therefore, if glucose is found in the urine it is a symptom
that the cells aren t utilizing the glucose affectively. The high amount of glucose in the urine
provide an increase production of bacterial and fungal growth. Urinary tract infections and yeast
infections are two of the most common bacterial and fungal infections that can be cause by type

that contract poorly. The poor contraction allows for urine to remain in static pools for long
periods of time. This provides luxurious ponds for bacteria to grow in. Bladder problems are
another problem for diabetic. An overactive bladder is common this is caused by damaged nerves

The Prohibition Of The 18th Amendment
With the 18th amendment passed came about a new era, an era where the government was unable
to enforce the laws. The 18th amendment had banned alcohol creation and consumption. The
reason the amendment was passes was because workers became addicted to liquor ultimately
becoming ineffective workers. The 18th amendment gave young desperate men the chance to make
big money selling liquor. Eventually selling liquor will become the gateway for these men to
becoming gangsters. Through the years of the Prohibition three men would lead the gangster into a
new style of organized crime unseen ever before. Al Capone, Dutch Schultzand Charles Lucky

Although many gangsters came from an impecunious and or illiterate families, Al Capone s

What is a leader and what is a follower? In any organized structure, business, or grouping these
two key positions will be represented. Chaleff (2009) stated that if one looked up the subject of
leadership they would be bombarded with numerous titles on the subject, but if one looked up

Medieval Art Essay
Medieval Art
In the art world, the medieval periods were traditionally though to be the unproductive phase of
Europe between the decline of Rome and the Renaissance. Our modern feelings toward medieval
art are far more appreciative. The main intent of Medieval art was to express Christianity which
was also a common bond between a wide spread and diverse Europe. For this reason most of the
art found from medieval times originated in monasteries and churches. European art during the
Middle Ages can be divided into four periods. These four periods include Celto Germanic art which
ranged from 400 to 800 A.D. and was important in metal work. Carolingian art ranged from 750 to

The Carolingian style is of small dimensions. Most of this style pulls its influence from Byzantine
artwork. An explanation for the sudden change from Celto Germanic styling can be attributed to the
new minuscule form of writing, remarkable for its clarity and form (Pioch). Metal work from this
time period is rare although writings tell us that goldsmiths and enamel workers remained active.
Romanesque The art of the Romanesque period was characterized by the revival of sculptures and
fresco painting. These were common elements of architecture. Along with those architectural
advancements the period produced frequent examples of realism as well as a heightened emphasis
on emotion and fantasy. The crusades acted as a main contributor to this time period lending more
religious and revolutionary imagery. Examples of Romanesque sculpture are dated back to the last
decade of the eleventh century and then first decades of the twelfth. The primary source of artistic
patronage was provided by the monastic institutions, for whom sculptors executed large relief
carvings for the decoration of church portals and richly ornate capitals for cloisters (Cleaver 156)
Another aspect of the Romanesque revival was the production of metalwork objects, of which many
outstanding examples, such as crucifixes, reliquary shrines, and candlesticks, are still preserved in
church treasuries. It was

Lies Exposed Into Reality, By Umberto Edo
One of the recurring themes in the story, although a perverse notion, is how lies could somehow
actually be turned into reality. Baudolino explains, When you say something you ve imagined,
and others then say that s exactly how it is, you end up believing it yourself. Abdul, one of
Baudolino s friends expressed a similar whim, The vision was an illusion, but what I now felt
inside was not; it was true desire. When you feel it, it s not an illusion. It s real (Eco, 2002).
Umberto Ecosuggests that fabricated lies are able to shape reality; even the liar convinces himself
/herself that those lies are the truth . In reality, almost everyone tells lies, basically to benefit one s
own interests. However, in trying so hard to convince others, one may end up believing that very lie
. For example, a student overwhelmed by his/her tasks would ask someone else s help with the
assignments. All the credit is given to that student and in the end would actually believe that he/she
was really the one who conceived the answer. When one is guilty for having committed something
wrong, one would usually pretend to be innocent or reason out that he/she had no other choice. One
s own justifications then brainwashes one s self although still subconsciously knows it s a lie....

The Changing of American Families
Television reflects how American families are viewed. Leave it to Beaver and
The Brady Bunch were the ideal families in the 1960 s and 1970 s, and in the 80 s, it was Family
Ties. When the 1990 s approached us, television shows took on a whole new outlook on American
Families. There were shows such as Full House, which was about a single father raising three

More and more women were pushed into the work force. The 1960 s and 1970 s became an era
of diversity and identity politics as a host of others sought recognition and liberation from the
constraints of discriminatory laws, social policies, and negative stereotypes (Erera 354). As more
women were entering the work force, they were becoming financially independent and were able to
live on their own. This led to many women who were unhappy in their marriage to divorce their
husbands and raise their children on their own. As more and more women became financially
independent, the more appealing single life became to them. Soon women all over were adopting
and fostering children, and many also decided to give birth while still remaining single. With the
increasing numbers and visibility of single parent, step, and adoptive families, the gay liberation
movement opened the way for the emergence of gay and lesbian families (Erera 355). Gay and
lesbian families were starting to become more common as the seventies had passed.
The eighties and nineties were a time when everyone was arguing over what a family really was.

while voices on the left look to the family to provide the basis for a more communitarian society
(Erera 356). People were starting to blame the increase of family diversity to almost anything they

it may seem like a terrible job to have, it is the only thing keeping people from from living in

The Effects Of Emotional Abuse
The effects emotional abuse has on a victim will stick with them for their entire life. Even the
smallest event can, and usually will, trigger horrific memories that create anxiety and makes it a
struggle to interact with others. It causes the victim to withdraw from society because they feel
they are not worry of social interaction. When a person is repeatedly told they are stupid, worthless
or any other degrading comments, they begin to believe them. Even worse, they start to believe
they deserve the comments and think they have to change who they are as a person to fit the

It can make a person truly think they are worthless instead of just having a feeling. When the

assailant does not even have to speak; the victim becomes so scared of punishment that they do
what is expected of them. When emotional abuse changes over to mental abuse, the attacker is
reinforcing their control over the victim. The mental attacks are meant to force the victim to

that matches the assailant s expectations and desires. This is why victims of domestic abuse

want to enrich are less abundant than those who want to get rich. This phenomenon occurs because
wealth is more easily attainable than enrichment. Wealth requires one lucky day at the New York
Stock Exchange or the acquisition of an emerging franchise. Enrichment requires an acute mind
and patience because social change often takes generations to root in the minds of people. The
solution to both Adams and Fairlie s sinful society rests in patience. People should not try to
perform a lifetime of actions in a fraction of their lifetime. Adams then reveals the twisted prototype
for the space age hero through the character traits of Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect. Arthur was born

The Pros And Cons Of Republicanism
terms of demography and territory in the Ethiopian state, were targeted for destruction, and instead
forced to glorify the identities and cultures of the oppressive group (xxx, xxx).
Meanwhile, the notion of the nation was introduced to Europe in a powerful way during the
Revolution and the subsequent Napoleonic period (xxx, xxx). After Napoleon was finally subdued,
European monarchs and their representatives assembled in Vienna to chart a more peaceful order
for themselves (xxx, xxx). They blamed the mayhem that Europe endured between the early 1790s
and 1815 on the notion of popular sovereignty and thus agreed to proscribe Republicanism (xxx,
xxx). At the same time, however, they began conceding the idea of nation by binding the ruled and

The inconsistencies in the implementation even partly contributed to the outbreak of the Second
World War (xxx, xxx). The European powers mobilized their African subjects with propaganda
vilifying the racial supremacist ideology of the Fascist powers. This set in motion a process in
which Fascist nationalism produced the opposed reality of anti Fascism; and anti Fascism became
antiracism; and antiracism led in due course to an end of colonization (Davidson, 1992). The
result was the erasure of European colonial rule from large swathes of the African continent within
a relatively short period of time (xxx, xxx). Consequently, this led to the development of a
decolonized version of the self determination concept. The decolonization version of self
determination was based on the following three principles: i) all dependent peoples are entitled to
freedom; ii) the peoples so entitled are defined in terms of the existing colonial territories, each of
which contains a nation; and iii) once such a people has come to independence, no residual right of
self determination remains with any group within it or cutting across its frontiers (Emerson 1964).
This version of self determination had numerous implications. The concerned entities often did not

The Argument Against The Hip-Hop Group Public Enemy
Imagine a mind changing tour into ghetto life in the United States, the drugs, the violence, the
hopelessness. Think about political movements, riots, cries for change. Think of some of the
greatest modern artists among us. All these ideas stem from, bring awareness of, and originate in
classic hip hop. The advocacy of societal change, the inspiration its artists got from their songs, and
its impact on future artists have cemented Classic hip hop as the most influential music genre of all
time.
Classic hip hop s debatable and political content advocates for societal change. The explicit
content which permeated classic hip hop was something that the music industry hadn t
experienced yet. However, many of these rap protest records are not without cause. An anthem of
anger for blacks growing up in the streets of Compton and Los Angeles, N.W.A. released a song
in which they took part in a fictional trial against the L.A.P.D ( N.W.A. ). The song highlights
offenses of brutality among police to the minorities living in such areas. By addressing a relevant
and scary issue at the time, its lyrics ignited victims of such heinous crimes. In turn, it called for a ...

Racial ideology and injustice is an issue which spans across all generations. Public Enemy s
protest songs voiced protest of these societal issues, making them unforgettable ( Public Enemy ).
By appealing to those oppressed in inner city and project life they reached an audience who felt
there needed to be a serious change in how society handles racial profiling.( Gangsta Rap ). A lot
of poverty lies within these areas of the United States, which many Americans are oblivious to. By
highlighting our biggest downfalls as people, many classic hip hop songs can inspire both the
insider and outsider alike to make a change. The fearlessness to recognize societal dilemmas caused

Examples Of Id Ego And Superego In Lord Of The Flies
Sigmund Freud created the structural model of personality that describes the id, ego, and
superego parts of a person. Id is represented as the devil and based on the pleasure and benefiting
themselves. Ego is the angel and devil together, where there is balance of good and bad. Lastly,
superego is shown as the angel with good behavior and morals. In Golding s book Lord of the
Flies, he uses Jack, Ralph, and Piggy to represent Sigmund Freuds theory of the three personalities:
id, ego, and superego.
Throughout the book, it can be noticed that Jack has the id personality. He wants to kill the pigs
not for the benefit of the group, but for himself. He can also be seen as the devil because of how
he acts. When Ralph and Jack were talking to each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the group were discussing about the fire, Piggy says, Cos the smoke s a signal and we
can t be rescued if we don t have smoke (173). Piggy is working to help out the boys by trying to
inform them about their situation, and how they can fix it together. Piggy is the voice of reason
out of all the boys by telling them how things will affect them as a group, and that is just like
how the superego tells the ego on how the action will influence society. Piggy always wants what
is best for the group, and wants them all to get off the island safely. When the group decided to
move the fire from the mountain, Golding describes, Piggy was so full of delight and
expanding liberty in Jack s departure, so full of pride in his contribution to the good of society,
that he helped to fetch wood (129). Piggy wants to guide the boys on the right path of survival,
and enjoys when he is able to help. His involvement in book by helping Ralph and the other boys
is based on the focus of the superego to help the needs of society.
Golding s Lord of the Flies takes the structural model of personality and uses it to represent Jack,
Ralph, and Piggy in the novel. He uses them to show how they interact with each other in society.
He wants the readers to understand that the id makes decisions and actions that feels good for
themselves, and not for others. The superego wants to help out society, and follow good morals,
but often gets overpowered and ignored by the id. Lasty, the ego is a balance of the two, and

Michael And Salhab s The Knights Templar
In the book The Knights Templar of the Middle East, The Hidden History of the Islamic Roots of
Freemasonry, the authors Michael and Salhab assert that Hughes de Payens family background
was rooted in Shiite and Sufi mysticism (p. 68). Hughes de Payens was the co founder and Grand
Master of the Knights Templar. Like the early history of the Templars, little is known about
Payens since sources about his life are certainly lacking. So we are left to wonder where Michael
and Salhab has gotten this tantalizing detail. Sufism itself seems to have strong Gnostic undertones
in the belief that Muslim seeker is striving for hidden, divine knowledge and love through direct
personal revelation from God (or Allah), without the need for a priest, vicarious... Show more

This view was upheld by many including the great poet, Dante Alighieri. However, as the
Enlightenment period dawned on the great thinkers, the Templars were seen more as victims of
heresy as there was a strong Gnosticizing trend in eighteenth century thought. This was also
evident in the mystical illumination roots of the Enlightenment area in the hermetic traditions of
Renaissance Neo Platonism and Cabbalism. Indeed, many of these thinkers, including Albert
Pike and Purgstall claimed that the Templars were secretly Johannite Gnostics who also
venerated Zoroaster and Manes. They were essentially a secret society totally opposed to the
Church but outwardly were completely loyal to the Church and the Pope. Partner writes, Their
spiritual independence of the Church was not based on any low or vulgar magical powers of
conjuring, but on the possession of a veritable house of knowledge, a Temple of wisdom which
was symbolized by the name of their Order (xviii). Then there is the view that the Templars were
not at war with Islam but were in fact in league with the Ismaili sect of the Assassins, who were
secret philosopher mystagogues who initiated the Templars in the precepts of their House of
Wisdom. Purgstall would wonder the same thing, when he wrote: What wonder that those knights
confederated with the Assassins and imbued with their nefarious doctrine and, passing time in
Syria, affected by the error of the Syrian sects, waging war in the Orient, indulged the same defect

How Did Buddy Holly Influence Popular Music
Even Though Bob Dylan and Buddy Holly are both singer/song writers, their journeys have taken
them down completely different paths. One has had a long career in the industry and the other has
unfortunately has had a short career. Both have had wonderful and successful lives and are still
well known for what they accomplished with their music. Buddy Hollyplayed rock n roll for a few
short year but the music he recorded in that time has made a major and forever lasting impact on
popular music. Not only did he write his own music, but he was also the first to exploit advanced
studio techniques such as double tracking, (rockhall.com). Bob Dylanon the other hand is a
recognized poet laureate of the rock n roll era and the pre eminent singer/songwriter of modern
times. No matter if he is singing topical folk songs, exploring rootsy rock and blues, or delivering
one of his abstract, allegorical compositions, he is always demonstrating a rare ability to reach
listeners with his lyrics, (rockhall.com).
Buddy Holly was born on September 7th, 1936 in Lubbock, Texas. His birth name was Charles
Hardin Holley, he is the youngest out of four children. He got the name Buddy from his mother,
who felt his birth name was too big for a young boy. Holly learned to play the piano and the fiddle
when he was pretty young, and his brothers taught him how to play the guitar. After Buddy
graduated High School, he formed a band that played country and western songs on the radio. He

The Is Not Always Better, And Favors The Underdogs
In the discussions of underdogs, one controversial issue has been that being the underdog means
you hold less power and rarely win. On the one hand, Gladwell argues, more is not always better,
and favors the underdogs. On the other hand, In Derksen s story on the Three strike Law
contends Reynolds, who was not considered an underdog, held much power in being able to help
successfully establish the law in honor of his murder daughter. Others even maintain that s
power hold no position for winning or losing, it s how you play the game. Admiring the Derksen
family who didn t have much power or say, and were just very grateful for finding their child s
body after weeks of not knowing what had happen to her. It helped bring the family closure. My
own view is when you have more you can do more. William Petit who was much like Reynolds,
used his power and voice to make a change in the honor of his deceased family. Whether the
change last forever or its tempary, it still can makes a different in somebody life at that moment.
Gladwell critizesed Reynolds and the others who helped enforced the Three Strike Law, because
of what he described as a domino effect. They illustrate the fact that more is not always better;
there comes a point, in fact, when the extra resources that the powerful think of as their greatest
advantage only serve to make things worse. (Gladwell 238) Gladwell is talking about the inverted

Civil Rights Movement Essay
The Civil Rights Movement, also known as the American Civil Rights, was a mass movement
during the 1950s and 1960s. It was one of the most intricate social movements of mankind. The
Civil Rights Movement was a period where African Americans did not have the same equal rights
or treatment as the whites. Instead, African Americans were segregated from whites by not going
to school together, having to sit in the back of the bus, not being able to move freely, or not having
the right to vote. Over the past few decades, the Civil Rights Movement has evolved to restructure
the equality amongst all races across the world.

Another one of Martin Luther King Jr. non violent protest was the Little Rock Nine . The Little
Rock Nine was nine African Americanstudents who went to Little Rock Central High school and
were treated very unethically by many of the whites in the school. This gave rise to the Supreme
Court s Decision in the Brown V. Board of Education which later resulted in the desegregation of
schools. This was another one of the Civil Rights Movement that was successful. Back then, Martin
Luther King Jr. and his non violent protest required gathering of people to his reason. During this
period, hundreds of thousands of people marched in front of the Lincoln Memorial, to beg the
federal government to support desegregation. The movement was to reestablish the rights of
citizenship guaranteed by the 14th and 15th amendments. The 14th Amendment of the constitution
gave blacks equal protection under the law and the 15th amendment granted blacks the right to
vote. During the protest at the Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. gave his, I have a dream
speech, which helped change the Civil Rights Movement. Ultimately, however, the movement
changed the nation for the better and improved lives of millions of Americans. This helped the
African Americans to attain assurance in their capability to form and to effect political change.

Essay On The Woman Warrior
A typical warrior is a medieval knight in shining armor fighting for his life and homeland. Today,
the definition of what it means to be a warrior has become ambiguous. Often times, we view
those willing to sacrifice their lives for others soldiers, police officers, or firefighters as warriors.
Even expanded in this way, the warrior still has a connotation of physical bravery, masculine
strength, and unhindered confidence. However, the word warrior can have an entirely new
meaning when we use it in a literary context. It can be defined as a person who is simply fighting
for convictions and values that are morally and ethically right. As associated with women, some
real, some legendary, some with evident power, some seeming to be weak.... Show more content on

This story ignited this internal conflict that began within Maxine. She began contemplating this
balance between the strict Chinese tradition, and its relation to her American values. Nonetheless, a
key theme that emerges is acknowledging the power that Maxine s mother held as the storyteller.
Her interpretation of the events characterized Maxine s aunt as a repulsive person. Maxine was
NOT [to] tell anyone because it risked bringing exposure and shame to the family (1). After hearing
the events through her mother s perspective, Maxine understood that her mother controlled the
way events unraveled. This realization showcases how Maxine was able to think outside the
framework her mother was providing for her. Maxine imagined that in order to sustain being in
love, [her aunt] often worked at herself in the mirror (6). Her innocence and ability to recognize
what her mother was trying to invoke fear in her actually directed Maxine to think in a
contradictory way. As a result of this evolved critical thinking, Maxine never once characterized her
dead aunt as a humiliation. From her narrative, Maxine overlooked her actions and commended her
resilience. Although directly not stated within the text, Maxine expanded the definition of what it
meant to be a warrior and gave this insight that her aunt can be characterized

This research is performed after preliminary evidence suggesting effectiveness of the drug has
been obtained. The intention of this research is to gather additional information with regard to
effectiveness and safety and attempts to be conclusive with answers about the drug as far as

are created and the basic guidelines for definition and public informative information is finalized.
These studies may include several hundred to several thousand people. At any point in time in the
research process, CDER can impose a clinical hold if a study is unsafe or if the detail is clearly
insufficient in meeting its stated objectives. Great care is taken to ensure that this determination is
not made in isolation, but reflects current scientific knowledge, agency experience with the design

CDER is responsible for doing is approving generic drugs. A generic drug product is one that is
comparable to an original drug product and is identified in the FDA s list of approved drug
products with therapeutic equivalence evaluations. They are comparable in dosage form, strength,
route of administration, quality, performance characteristics and intended use. A term to be familiar

An Overview Of Barings Bank
вћўOverview of Barings Bank
Barings Bank was founded in 1763 and known as the oldest merchant bank in London until its
collapse in 1995. The bank not only accepted deposits and provided financial services to its
clients but also traded on its own account. Over the years it became quite successful and in 1980 it
set up brokerage operations in Japan. Soon after, it expanded its operations to include a handful of
other Asian countries and in 1992 it activated its seat on the SIMEX (Singapore International
Monetary Exchange) with Nick Leeson as general manager. However, Leeson used his position to
engage in both fraudulent behavior and risky speculation on futures and options, and ended up
losing ВЈ1.4 billion of the funds capital, which finally caused the bank s insolvency in 1995.
Barings bank was purchased by, the Dutch bank, ING for the nominal price of ВЈ1.

Additionally, in his novel Squirrel INC., Stephen Denning states that a story can communicate a
company s brand (56). Also, a personal story can communicate who you are as an entity (54). We
decided that a compilation of personal stories would be the best method to communicate the
values and outcomes of the SDP, and therefore, show administrators how valuable the program is
to people. Denning further supports this idea when he states that effective companies spark
change when Groups possess analogous who we are stories, which are less about the leader s
personal experiences and attitudes and more about the joint experiences and attitudes of the
people within the organization and their shared beliefs (Denning 58). Therefore, the sections of
the interviews we chose to include in the video help paint a picture of the organization as a
whole. Also, we added in a few photos of the participants activities, so as to not only let our
viewers hear the benefits of the program, but also see visual proof of how the program is a
beneficial entity. Denning states that In performing the story, the storyteller relives the story and
makes it fresh as if the viewers were there at those particular, specified moments (Denning 26).
Our goal was to have our audience feel as though they were apart of each participants activities

Some Of Common Misconceptions In Lullaby By Leslie Marrman...
1.)What are some of the common misconceptions about indigenous writers? In what ways do the
writers we ve read play on those stereotypes? Some of the common misconceptions is that
indigenous writers are that they could not speak English, uneducated, all lived in teepees, and
their medicine was primitive. The writers that we have read about dealt with these stereotypes
was by including hints and lines that these stereotypes are false. Lullaby by Leslie Marmon
Silko has a line about where the Indians stayed showing that they did not live in teepees. In this
story they lived in a boxcar shack where the rancher let the Indians live (pg 1545). Pawn Shop by
Sherman Alexie is a very short work that demonstrates that Indians are civilized. The man in the
story goes into a bar looking for all of his friends but can not find them so he leaves after the
bartender gives him a free drink for all of his troubles. I leave, searching the streets, searching
storefronts, until I walk into a pawn shop, find a single heart beating under glass, and I know
who it used to belong to, I know all of them (pg 1647). This works demonstrates that Indians are
just like normal people who go to shops, bars, and lose people along the way that they miss
dearly. 2.) Select one writer and write an extended reader response to his/her work. Why did you
like/dislike the work? Why? Lullaby by Leslie Marmon Silko is a work that is depressing. There
is real truth within it but it is saddening. The beginning of the story a woman is remembering
happier times and her family members. Jimmie, which I was not able to identify the relationship
between the women and Jimmie was being remembered and thought upon by the women. She
realizes that she should not dwell on him since he is not dead. Yet, one day a dark blue sedan
with white writing on its doors pulled up in front of the boxcar shack where the rancher let the
Indians live. A man in a khaki uniform trimmed in gold gave then a yellow piece of paper and
told them that Jimmie was dead (pg. 1545). The fact this woman found of that Jimmie was dead
and she was just telling herself that he was still alive to give herself hope is heartbreaking. I did
not like the work, the themes of death and

A system in development over the years is the RQ 7 Shadow. This platform has a wide verity of uses and capabilities ranging from tactical to strategic mission sets. The United States developed this system to provide Brigade (BDE) commanders with improved capabilities and situational awareness within their area or responsibility (AOR) (TC 2 22.7, 2011). Through these advancements UAS are improving the capabilities within the geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) profession by helping to solve GEOINT intelligence problem sets. The United States military used UAS technology during WWII and the Vietnam wars. However, the development of the RQ 7 Shadow did not start until 1991. It was first flown by the Army for testing in 1992 and mass production began in 1999. Manufacturers delivered the RQ 7 Shadow to army units in 2001 and began operations in 2002 (Military Periscope, 2014). The most common payload the RQ 7 carries is the Plug in Optronic Payload visible/Infrared (P.O.P. visible/IR). The P.O.P. visible/IR payload gives the shadow capabilities to shoot full motion video (FMV) day and night, daytime TV during the day, and Near Infrared (NIR) throughout the night (TC 2 22.7, 2011). Technology has exploded in recent years, and such developments have meant a lot for the future of communication amongst the human race. Of course, as with nearly every other rapidly expanding medium that leads to drastic changes for the way humans interact, there are analysts following the change. One such analyst is S. While writing this essay, I continued to glance at my phone and would occasionally get lost in conversation. Eventually, I had to move my phone to another room to keep the temptation out of sight. Although anecdotal, even this is a powerful message as to the negative impact of fast entertainment. As I was reading through the essays in Signs of Life in the USA, I couldn t resist writing about this particular essay because of the personal relevance that it contains. In this writing, the author touches on many points, and delivers a powerful message against the life style that is provoked by fast entertainment. One idea from the text that I found most striking was the train incident in which twenty five people lost their lives because the driver of the train had been distracted with his cellular device. Of course, this is an upsetting figure, and it goes an extremely long way for expressing the negative implications with society s current enthrallment of digital speed entertainment. I found these ideas to be are exceptionally interesting, and aside from the obvious don t text and drive, most of these ideas are new to me. This text conveys an incredibly crucial message that astounding numbers of people are unaware of; Although our modern lifestyle may seem to be nothing but harmless (especially in regards to speedy entertainment or text messaging), the truth is there s a landslide of underlying ... Analysis Of Donald Trump s Politics As A Vocation In the days following the United States presidential election, many Americans voiced their disbelief that Donald Trump, a man longtime considered a political joke and nuisance, won the election. But despite his brashness, entire lack of eloquence, and discriminatory tendencies, Trump was in fact elected. Many of Trump s supporters attribute his success to his fundamentally different approach to politics and leadership. Max Webers lecture, Politics as a Vocation, provides an explanation of how Trump s campaign was successful, why he is perceived as refreshing and different by his supporters, and how these same supporters were able to overlook Trump s flaws. Weber defines in his lecture, three ideal types of authority; traditional, legal, and charismatic. Traditional authority can be associated with Hillary Clinton and her institutionalized style of politics, while Trump is aligned with charismatic authority. Trump s charismatic leadership style contrasts the traditional American political approach which contributes to the perception of him as working against the status quo rather than for it. The Paleolithic people lived first in the Old Stone Age, and the Neolithic people lived next in the New Stone Age. The people were always on the move and making their homes in caves, rocky overhangs, tents, and huts. Since a thousand years equals a millennium this term we will be used interchangeably from this point forward. The millennium in Revelation 20 is only used in reference to the reign of Jesus Christ after Satan the devil has been imprisoned. The conclusion of the millennium will be the second coming of Jesus Christ and the defeat of the Devil. The view that the church needs to continue spread the gospel and should except Christ to return at any time is correct. As for the world continuing to improve it would seem to this author that the world is currently going in the wrong direction. Gay and lesbian marriage has been legalized, abortion has been legalized, and President Obama has said that we are not a Christian country. The Olivet Discourse (Matt 24; MK 13; LK 21) does not lead one to see peace on earth before the return of Christ. It actually teaches the opposite. How can we have the millennial reign of Christ and have false messiahs and prophets, wars, famines, pestilence, persecution, and earthquakes? Aquinas identifies the virtuous man as the one who really lives out his function and acts in accord with reason, but even desires in accord with reason. Both the Stoics and Aquinas would agree that the virtuous man has the virtues; temperance, fortitude, courage, and justice which are all properly ordered with his reason. When reason is removed or blurred the virtuosity of the person is called into question. Virtue cannot be fulfilled without reason, and vice versa, however the one factor that can alter or affect reason, is passion. The Stoics characterized passion as any emotions in disaccord with or exceed reason and Aquinas defined passions as any movement from the sense appetite. Aquinas believes that if all passions belong to the sense appetite, then passions can be moderated and perfected by reason. These two varying definitions of passion show the rigidity of the Stoic view by portraying the virtuous man as the passionless man, which by default means the virtuous man lacks antecedent passions. Aquinas would disagree that the virtuous lacks passion but, he would state that passions can perhaps negatively affect the judgement of reason. Nonetheless both he and the Stoics agreed that the virtuous man lacks what are called antecedent passions. Antecedent passions according to Aquinas, obscure the judgement of reason, on which the goodness of the moral act depends, they diminish the goodness of the act. • 31. Medieval Art Essay Medieval Art In the art world, the medieval periods were traditionally though to be the unproductive phase of Europe between the decline of Rome and the Renaissance. Our modern feelings toward medieval art are far more appreciative. The main intent of Medieval art was to express Christianity which was also a common bond between a wide spread and diverse Europe. For this reason most of the art found from medieval times originated in monasteries and churches. European art during the Middle Ages can be divided into four periods. These four periods include Celto Germanic art which ranged from 400 to 800 A.D. and was important in metal work. An explanation for the sudden change from Celto Germanic styling can be attributed to the new minuscule form of writing, remarkable for its clarity and form (Pioch). Metal work from this time period is rare although writings tell us that goldsmiths and enamel workers remained active. Romanesque The art of the Romanesque period was characterized by the revival of sculptures and fresco painting. These were common elements of architecture. Along with those architectural advancements the period produced frequent examples of realism as well as a heightened emphasis on emotion and fantasy. The crusades acted as a main contributor to this time period lending more religious and revolutionary imagery. Examples of Romanesque sculpture are dated back to the last decade of the eleventh century and then first decades of the twelfth. The primary source of artistic patronage was provided by the monastic institutions, for whom sculptors executed large relief carvings for the decoration of church portals and richly ornate capitals for cloisters (Cleaver 156) Another aspect of the Romanesque revival was the production of metalwork objects, of which many outstanding examples, such as crucifixes, reliquary shrines, and candlesticks, are still preserved in church treasuries. • 32. Lies Exposed Into Reality, By Umberto Edo One of the recurring themes in the story, although a perverse notion, is how lies could somehow actually be turned into reality. Baudolino explains, When you say something you ve imagined, and others then say that s exactly how it is, you end up believing it yourself. Abdul, one of Baudolino s friends expressed a similar whim, The vision was an illusion, but what I now felt inside was not; it was true desire. When you feel it, it s not an illusion. It s real (Eco, 2002). Umberto Ecosuggests that fabricated lies are able to shape reality; even the liar convinces himself /herself that those lies are the truth . In reality, almost everyone tells lies, basically to benefit one s own interests. However, in trying so hard to convince others, one may end up believing that very lie . For example, a student overwhelmed by his/her tasks would ask someone else s help with the assignments. All the credit is given to that student and in the end would actually believe that he/she was really the one who conceived the answer. When one is guilty for having committed something wrong, one would usually pretend to be innocent or reason out that he/she had no other choice. Henry Fairlie agrees with this definition and offers an eloquent sentiment: The be all and end all of life should not be to get rich, but to enrich the world (26). However, Fairlie s plea is unheard due to the deafening materialism of modern society. It is a sad fact, but a fact nonetheless, that those who want to enrich are less abundant than those who want to get rich. This phenomenon occurs because wealth is more easily attainable than enrichment. Wealth requires one lucky day at the New York Stock Exchange or the acquisition of an emerging franchise. Enrichment requires an acute mind and patience because social change often takes generations to root in the minds of people. The solution to both Adams and Fairlie s sinful society rests in patience. Also, a personal story can communicate who you are as an entity (54). We decided that a compilation of personal stories would be the best method to communicate the values and outcomes of the SDP, and therefore, show administrators how valuable the program is to people. Denning further supports this idea when he states that effective companies spark change when Groups possess analogous who we are stories, which are less about the leader s personal experiences and attitudes and more about the joint experiences and attitudes of the people within the organization and their shared beliefs (Denning 58). Therefore, the sections of the interviews we chose to include in the video help paint a picture of the organization as a whole. Also, we added in a few photos of the participants activities, so as to not only let our viewers hear the benefits of the program, but also see visual proof of how the program is a beneficial entity. Denning states that In performing the story, the storyteller relives the story and makes it fresh as if the viewers were there at those particular, specified moments (Denning 26). Our goal was to have our audience feel as though they were apart of each participants activities through the various photos. Furthermore, we decided to begin our video with a brief introduction into the program by one of the former chairs of the SDP, and what it essentially accomplishes because a traditional narrative has a beginning, a middle, and an ending. • 51. Some Of Common Misconceptions In Lullaby By Leslie Marrman... 1.)What are some of the common misconceptions about indigenous writers? In what ways do the writers we ve read play on those stereotypes? Some of the common misconceptions is that indigenous writers are that they could not speak English, uneducated, all lived in teepees, and their medicine was primitive. The writers that we have read about dealt with these stereotypes was by including hints and lines that these stereotypes are false. Lullaby by Leslie Marmon Silko has a line about where the Indians stayed showing that they did not live in teepees. In this story they lived in a boxcar shack where the rancher let the Indians live (pg 1545). Pawn Shop by Sherman Alexie is a very short work that demonstrates that Indians are civilized. The man in the story goes into a bar looking for all of his friends but can not find them so he leaves after the bartender gives him a free drink for all of his troubles. I leave, searching the streets, searching storefronts, until I walk into a pawn shop, find a single heart beating under glass, and I know who it used to belong to, I know all of them (pg 1647). This works demonstrates that Indians are just like normal people who go to shops, bars, and lose people along the way that they miss dearly. 2.) Select one writer and write an extended reader response to his/her work. Why did you like/dislike the work? Why? Lullaby by Leslie Marmon Silko is a work that is depressing. There is real truth within it but it is saddening. The beginning of the story a woman is remembering happier times and her family members. Jimmie, which I was not able to identify the relationship between the women and Jimmie was being remembered and thought upon by the women. She realizes that she should not dwell on him since he is not dead. Yet, one day a dark blue sedan with white writing on its doors pulled up in front of the boxcar shack where the rancher let the Indians live. A man in a khaki uniform trimmed in gold gave then a yellow piece of paper and told them that Jimmie was dead (pg. 1545). The fact this woman found of that Jimmie was dead and she was just telling herself that he was still alive to give herself hope is heartbreaking. I did not like the work, the themes of death and ...
