Despite contrasting contexts, a well developed understanding of the shared ideas between two texts
has been achieved through comparative study. The play King Lear (1606) but William Shakespeare
and the Japanese film adaptation Ran (1985) by Akira Kurosawa share similar values despite coming
from different parts of the world, and being written in different time periods. The concept of Chaos
highlights the need to respect the values of society, and Justice is used throughout both texts to explore

combination with symbolic blocking, the set and décor of this production create the perfect
environment to capture the inner turmoil of Jane and her relationship with the madness.
One expects when walking past the doors of a theatre to encounter a stage and perhaps someplace to
sit. However, when walking through the theatre doors one is confronted by a fabric wall and a dark
hallway created by hanging pieces of yellow curtains and blankets stitched together with visible seams
and patterns overlapping haphazardly. The people you saw enter before you disappear and you re
confronted by the question of where to go next. You walk along the dark makeshift hallway until you
find an open wooden door, through which you finally see the stage and realize that you were only a
few feet away from it the entire time. This makes up the audience s first interaction with the The

Ivan Ilych by Leo Tolstoy is an intriguing novel about a man who faces plenty of obstacles during a
painful two years. He comes across a sickness that ends up killing him. No death is ever easy, however
Ivans family was not there to support him when he needed them the most. Gerasim is a character that
came into play and showed Ivan what It feels like to have someone care for him. Tolstoy used many
details throughout his book to give a deeper insight on the message being used. One detail that
illustrated Gerasim characteristics was in chapter 7 page 118: Gerasim did everything easily, willingly,
simply, and with a goodness of heart that moved Ivan Ilyich. Health, strength, and vitality in other
