6. Objectives of the programme
Create and safeguard over 1,000 jobs in Greater Manchester by March 2019.
Bridge the gap between global retailers and SME’s, and increase the number of Greater Manchester “home grown”
firms operating internationally
Create private sector leverage within the manufacturing sector in the UK
Support the sustainable growth of Private Sector enterprise in Greater Manchester by facilitating export-led growth
Support “new-to-export” companies to achieve their first international orders
Support existing exporters to increase the volume of their international sales.
7. Programme components
The GM Export Fund has two components:
Greater Manchester Export Grant Fund - £7M package of capital and revenue support to invest in the areas critical
for international development and export-focussed business growth. It will elevate businesses to a point where they
can either start to trade overseas or scale up their export operations to new markets.
Greater Manchester Export Loan Fund - £2.5M revolving loan fund providing short-term trade finance to companies
who have been refused export finance elsewhere. It will provide short-term working capital to enable companies to
fulfil export orders.
All eligible companies will also be referred to UK Trade & Investment North West for additional information, advice
and support regarding international trade.
8. Who is eligible?
Small and Medium sized enterprises within the manufacturing sector, although other sectors may be considered
where there is a strong case for support
Businesses located within the 10 Greater Manchester Local Authorities
Applications must demonstrate how the funding will both create/safeguard jobs and increase international activity
Grant funded Projects must be completed and funding claimed by May 2017 at the latest
Projects must create Private Sector Leverage. The Programme must achieve an overall public to private leverage
ratio of 1 to 4.

15. Realisation that to make £1 million I would have
to sell 50,000 boxes (that’s 136 a day!)
If I was going to make it in the business world, I
needed a big idea!
18. What we learnt:
• Would need a lot more money to scale a tech
platform.
• Someones won’t invest in our salaries whilst we think
of an idea.
BUT….
• Myself and Craig worked well together.
• We had also met an experienced mentor.
• With the right idea, we knew we could fly.
20. Began to ask what was wrong with Digital space…?
