What is NOUN?
 Of all the parts of speech, nouns are perhaps
the most important. A noun is a word that
identifies a person, animal, place, thing, or
idea. Here, we’ll take a closer look at what
makes a noun a noun, and we’ll provide some
noun examples, along with some advice for using
nouns in your sentences.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF
NOUN
COMMON NOUN
 All nouns can be further classified
as PROPER or COMMON. Common nouns are
words used to name general items rather than
specific ones.
 EXAMPLE S:
1.You broke my favorite mug
2. I really want a new pair of jeans.
3. I wish I could remember the name of
that painter.
PROPER NOUN
 It has two distinct features: They name
specific one-of-a-kind items, and they begin
with capital letters, no matter where they
occur within a sentence. Here, we’ll take a
closer look at proper nouns, provide proper noun
examples, and help you learn how to use a
proper noun the right way.
 EXAMPLES:
1. Agatha Christie wrote many books.
2. Cleopatra is the cutest kitten ever.
CONCRETE NOUN
 A concrete noun is a noun which refers to
people and to things that
exist PHYSICALLY and can be seen, touched,
smelled, heard, or tasted.
 Examples:
dog, building, coffee, tree, rain, beach,
tune.
ABSTRACT NOUN
 It refers to ideas, qualities, and conditions-
things that cannot be seen or touched and
things which have no physical reality.
 Examples:
1.I love my husband
2.Sarah could taste cilantro in the salsa.
COLLECTIVE NOUNS
 It refer to groups of people or things.
 Examples:
1. A class of students.
2.A choir of singers.
4.A crew of sailors.
COUNT AND MASS NOUN
 It either can be
COUNTABLE or UNCOUNTABLE. Countable
nouns (or count nouns) are those that refer to
something that can be counted. Uncountable
nouns (or mass nouns) do not typically refer to
things that can be counted and so they do not
regularly have a plural form.
 Examples:
Countable: a boy, a kitten, a rose, an ear,
three boys, seven kittens, twelve roses, two
ears
Uncountable: cappuccino, oil, smoke, oxygen,
rice, sugar, salt, cement, gravel
