The endocrine system is made up of glands that secrete hormones which regulate bodily functions. Key glands include the pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid gland, adrenal gland, pancreas and gonads. The pituitary gland controls other endocrine glands and regulates growth, metabolism, reproduction and lactation. The thyroid gland regulates cellular activity and calcium levels. The parathyroid regulates calcium levels in response to the thyroid. The adrenal gland regulates stress response and metabolism, and the pancreas regulates blood sugar. The gonads are responsible for sex hormones.
