Spanish and English together when you learned both languages at the same time, my
mother signals to her head in agreement because for over the past few years of my
life she has learned to better understand my Spanglish.
Growing up between two cultures I always wonder whether I am worthy enough to
be part of the Latino community. Both of my parents are immigrants from Mexico by
crossing the border to the United States with little knowledge of speaking English. I
grew up in a predominantly African American suburb so I grew up learning mostly

cases even college. While the prevalence may not be as intense as it is in middle or
high school, it seems clear that college students are dealing with cyber bullies as

to cyber bullying. The thought was that kids would be kids, and that they would

makes it easier for someone to be more callous towards another than they usually

The Literary And Artistic Romanticism Movement
John Constable was a 18th and 19th century English artist whose work has
coincided with the literary and artistic Romanticism movement. His works
included many painting and sketches of the natural world and environment which
was one of the hallmarks of Romantic works. A lot of his work did not cover the
theme of ruins until later in his life and especially after the death of his wife. His
oil on canvas painting, Hadleigh Castle, The Mouth of the Thames Morning after
a Stormy Night depicts the ruins of a medieval stronghold known by the same
name of Hadleigh Castle after a storm has ravaged the area over night. However, it
is important to note the context in which this work was created in. In 1828,
Constable s wife had passed away and this led to a shift in his own artistic work. In
addition, Constable had also been inducted into the Royal Academy but he was

My Personal Literary Theory Of Literature
It is amazing how the same piece of literature can offer different insight,
interpretation, and understanding to a person at different stages of their life. I ve
been able to see this throughout my own life as increased knowledge and experience
has led to the evolution of my approach to literature. As of late, I tend to apply the
following personal literary theorywhen presented with a literary work. First, I try to
search for morals and lessons that I can draw from the text. I enjoy doing this
because I can learn new things and gain new insights. Second, I try to make
connections to the text by comparing characters, descriptions, or situations to either
myself, the world around me, or other works of literature that I have encountered.
Third, I pay attention to the literary devices employed by the author, such as similes,
metaphors, repetition, and personification. Lastly, I look for symbols. I will now

The beginning of the novel expresses an abundance of foreshadowing and dramatic
irony, creating an entertaining read for those already familiar with the traditional
concept of vampirism, which has largely developed and evolved from this book.
For instance, the complete absence of mirrors in the castle (Stoker 16) and, later,
the Count s lack of a reflection (Stoker 21) should act as significant red flags to
readers of the modern day. Similarly, the Count s peculiarly sharp white teeth
(Stoker 15), which Harker notices but disregards, would be key indicators of the
Count s true inhuman identity if his name was not already commonly
recognizable. As a reader, I enjoyed being able to anticipate many of these
foreshadowed instances that Harker and the other characters were ignorant to. This
presiding knowledge of the fantastical elements of the book is contrasted by Stoker
s ability to make each entry seem as real and raw as possible. As mentioned in the
previous paragraph, the introduction to the novel states that all the records chosen
are exactly contemporary (Stoker vi), reiterating the notion that the accounts
recorded are very much real and recent; there is no true way to prove how authentic
(Stoker 326) subjective pieces of text may be, so these excerpts are, in turn, simply
no different from real records of personal statements. I love this resulting
juxtaposition of reality and fantasy and find it makes Bram Stoker s Dracula all the

Introduction When I was a freshman in high school, I had one of my worst group
experiences within my entire educational career. I was assigned a project in my
World History course and was assigned to a group with one of my best friends and
two boys who were known for their lack of goals in school. I wouldn t call this a

was clear to my friend and I that this was going to be a tough process because we

Society s view on sexuality has played a pivotal role in the equality of the gay
community. Their existence is often ignored as there is a stigma against their
lifestyle and those who choose to reveal their identity are either attacked or shunned
away. The fatality of Matthew Shepard during the late 90s proved to show that some
parts of society had not yet accepted homosexuality. Whether or not acceptance is
relevant today, the play works to address the issues of sexuality through Matthew and
have the audience understand the reality of the lives tormented by hate.
Shepard s character reveals to the audience the issues of sexuality by serving as a
martyr for the gay community. Sadly his death would then only bring the attention
needed to recognize anti gay hate crimes and awaken the movement needed to
replace hate with understanding and acceptance. As an audience, we regrettably
understand that when a tragic event occurs, only then do we decide to act. Most
people are unaware that they have the power to prevent hate crimes by educating
their communities about sexuality and taking away the dogmatic view that only
heterosexuality is normal. One could think of Matthew as a Christ figure, whom
he is sacrificed for the sake of change considering that his death received national
attention to anti gay sentiment. Throughout history there have been worse crimes
but never received as much attention as Laramie. To have one person represent the
struggles of the gay community is not acceptable and the audience needs to
understand that there will be more crimes. The residents Laramie declare they
have a live and let live mentality as opposed to the rest of Wyoming. Whether this
mentality is relevant for the rest of the United States, it reaches out to the audience

they present, college and universitytendencies in sexual assault prevention and
response play a direct role in decreasing levels of campus safety nationwide. Though
the higher educationsystem has much room for improvement in many areas pertaining
to sex crimes, specific issues such as the weak relationship between campus crisis
centers and universities, increasing leniency in perpetrating student athletes, and the
overabundance of response rather than prevention programs on campus are a few

There is so much controversy about physician assisted suicide. There is even
controversy about the wording itself. Some call it physician assisted suicide, while
others refuse to use the word suicide at all, in correlation to the meaning of this
subject, which I will discuss later. There are a few different ways to say it, but all
mean basically the exact same thing; deathwith dignity, end of life option, aid in

When the address was read out over the airwaves, my heart sank. It was my brother
who was performing CPR on my mother. This call was in our district, and
immediately I was given permission by the officer in charge to leave and head
over to the hospital that my mother was being transported to. She was revived, but
in critical condition and the outlook was very grim. My mother is a pride filled,
and spiritual woman, however her devotion to the Lord had no impact on her fate.
If the option to have a physician assisted death was available, no doubt in my mind
that she would have elected it. She wanted to go on her terms, with minimal pain.
Three long, tear filled days passed as she moaned in pain until Annette Vine took
her final breath surrounded by family. I am forever grateful that our family was
there in her final moments, however I wish she could have passed with more pride
and dignity. Not an easy subject, and a lot of controversy. If my mother could have
the choice to decide, and the benefit of a doctor to advise and educate, it would have
been a less painful, more peaceful, and sacred ending for her.
Taking this option off the table for patients like my mother, the medical world is
denying patients the ability to pass in peace and when they are truly ready to face the

She states that her life It s had tacks in it, and splinters (Hughes 3 4). She is
representing the rough times in her life, including the misery and heartaches. Tacks
and splinters she shows some of life her troubles that where short and long term pains.
