meter because the continuo, played by the double bass, could be counted into

polyphonic and each section had their own parts that worked together to make the
piece. The piece could also be considered a call and response in the Bouree and

The Second Great Awakening was a time period where there was a lot of
conversion to Christianity and if not converted, you were a sinner for it and did
not deserve forgiveness. In 1836, Charles G. Finney wrote a sermon called Sinner
Bound to Change Their Own Lives . With this sermon, Finney believed that men
were not the sinful creature and that there was salvation to get closer to God. In
this sermon, he gives the reader the idea that Christianity and liberty can not live
without each other. He also indicates that just like in religion, there is a good and a

Pearse read a proclamation of the Irish Republic. The British military responded

rebels surrender on April 29. In England at the time, W. B. Yeats learned about the
Rising mostly through newspapers and through letters from his friend and
patroness, Lady Gregory. As the British forces imposed martial law and, in early
May, executed fifteen of the Rising s leaders, some of whom Yeats knew
personally, the events in Ireland moved Yeats to begin writing the poem which
became Easter, 1916. On May 11, Yeats wrote to Lady Gregory that he had
