The History Boys Essay
The History Boys written by Alan Bennett is a play that explores the theme of love
between the characters. The action of the play takes place in all boys grammar
school in Sheffield, in the 1980 s where it focuses on a group of sixth intelligent
boys with fighting for the chance to gain scholarships to go to either Oxford or
Cambridge. Bennet gives an insight of what the education was like in the north of
England in the 1980 s. During this time the play was originated under Thatcher s
conservative regime. Throughout the play Bennett shows the relationship between
Hector one of the teachers and his students. Child, I am your teacher. Whatever I do
in this room is a token of my trust. I am in your hands. It is a pact. Bread eaten in
secret. I have put before your life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose

A personal connection with literature is one of the main tenets of Hector s teaching;
he puts lots of emphasis on learning excerpts from different texts by heart so his
students will remember what they have learned well after leaving school and
moving onto university. This is a perfect example of how different Hector s teaching
strategies are than Irwin s. Hector is passionate and does it to the love and trust of his
students, whereas Irwin is straight out with Hectors, Irwin implies the proper
educational strategies that need to be taught. Further through the play, in a heated
discussion between Headmaster and Mrs. Lintott, Headmaster is believed to criticise
yet again Hectors teaching views. Shall I tell you what is wrong with Hector as a
teacher? It isn t that he doesn t produce results. He does. But they are unpredictable
and unquantifiable and in the current educational climate that is no use. The

Creation Of Christianity In Theogony By Hesiod
Who Created Christianity?
How can a religion, Christianity, be popular when it is just a recreation of the old
classical mythology like ancient Greece. The creation of Christianity was not an
entirely new idea it has similar stories and beliefs of Classical Greek Mythology. it is
apparent that there are similarities. similarities such as Greek creation stories, the first
sin, the rebirth of mankind and their worshiping figures.
The Christian creation story is in the book of Genesis is very similar the Greek
creation story Theogony written by Hesiod. In the Christian bible the creation story
is the first story and says,

So the gods in both the Christian story and Greek myth wanted to end the world
and restart. This caused all the people to die as a flood covered the entire earth. In
the book of genesis And God saw the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and
that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And
it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his
heart (Genesis 6). And the Lord Said, I will destroy man whom i created from the
face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping things and the fowls of the
air; for repenteth me that i have made them (Genesis 6). But Noah found grace in
the eyes of the Lord. These are the generations of Noah: Noah was just a man and
perfect in all generations, Noah walked with God (Genesis 6). Then the story says
build an ark, And behold, I, Even, I, do bring a flood of water upon the earth to
destroy all flesh (Genesis
How The Internet Affects The Efficiency And Safety Of...
Using the internet has become an everyday task for many people in their day to day
lives but they don t think about the risk that could come with it. When people hear
the words youtube, twitter, pinterest or even craigslist they don t think about the
systems running these programs. When individuals use these social media platforms
or web based apps on their phones or computers often they re not thinking about the
big picture web 2.0running all these websites and web based applications.
Individuals don t factor in what is going to make that app run if it has any faults or
even the amount of threats they could be putting their computer, cell phone or even

viruses and threats that are after users information. One way hackers are able to
receive web users information is from a fault called injection flaws. This process
allows attackers to relay malicious code through an application to another system
(owasp). Injection flaws can happen to any website or application on web 2.0 that
uses external programs. Companies rely heavily on these external programs to
keep their information safe. If these external programs have one wrong coding slip
when a website filters through the http process a hacker can slip into the coding
slip and take over from there. There are many different types of injection flaws from
query language, LDAP, Xpath, XQuery and the most common SQL injection. SQL
injection is the most common and biggest threat of injection flaws. This attack
consists or insertion of a SQL query via the input data from the client to the
application (owasp). If this virus is successful it would give a hacker the information
they need to steal identities and change information stored on a computer. Hackers

Chinese herbal medicines are a major component in TCM practice and are used in
China both as monotherapy and in combination with Western medicine. In the United
States, Chinese herbs are categorized as dietary supplements by the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA), therefore, the efficacy, safety, and quality of these products
do not need to be proven. Also, it does not require to report any post marketing

In the early 1990s, the FDA started to develop stricter regulations for herbal
products, and in 1994, a bill passed by Congress called the Dietary Supplement
Health and Education Act (DSHEA). DSHEA defined dietary supplements as a
product containing one or more of the following: a vitamin, mineral, amino acid,
herb, other botanical, concentrate, metabolite, constituent, or extract (Cheng Deng,

of dietary supplements are required to state: this product in not intended to diagnose,

Eugene V. Debs Citizen and Socialist
Nick Salvatore s book Eugene V. Debs Citizen and Socialist provides a very detailed
account of the life and times and Eugene Debs. Debs was born in Terre Haute Indiana
and Salvatore emphasizes the important role that this played in Debs upbringing.
Terre Haute was ripe with religious fundamentalism from its founding. Religion
permeated everyday life throughout Terre Haute. Salvatore writes that, In newspaper
editorials, political speeches, civic dedications and Sunday sermons they assured the
kingdom of God had already arrived and that their town was destined to become the

He would be associated with this union for the next 18 years. By 1875 he had built
a reputation as an outstanding citizen and was named the secretary of the Vigo
County BLF, this would be his entry into the field of labor organization. During
this time he was closely associated with the railroad workers and saw their
consistent oppression by their capitalist employers. Despite this he was dedicated
to maintaining a union comprised of sober outstanding laborers who could best
serve their employers. By 1879 he was elected grand secretary of the BLF and
editor of the magazine. In this role he gained crucial experience in labor organizing
on a larger scale and elevated his status as a effective leader in the labor movement.
During this time he saw consistent wage cuts forced on these upstanding citizens and
workers which began to galvanize the idea within him that the corporations were not
interested in the quality of labor of their employees. Instead they were interested in
only creating a profit for themselves at any cost and reducing the value of a man to
his work.
Debs had not yet believed in or subscribed to socialist values at this time and as a
rising figure in Terre Haute he was elected as city clerk in 1879 on the democratic
ticket for two consecutive terms. He liked being closely associated with local politics
and his community in this position. In
Film Techniques In Psycho
Psycho is a 1960 American film directed by Alfred Hitchock. The screenplay of the
movie written by Joseph Stefano was inspired by the novel of the same name by
Robert Bloch on the year 1959. This film is categorized into the horror thriller
genre of film. The starring was Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates, Janet Leigh as
Marion Crane, Vera Miles as Lila Crane and John Gravin as San Loomis.
This film is a black and white film and the lighting is more towards dim effect which
terrified the audience. Music plays the biggest effect in the film. Bernard Hermann s
theme is used for this film because it uses mostly high pitched string instrument notes
so the suspense and horror mood can be formed to the audience.

The lighting there is much darker than outside without any light. There is a
medium shot from low angle facing the cellar door. Then, Lila opens the door and
slowly walks down the stairs and proceeds to another basement room. The scene of
walking steps from the door down into the room generates a mysterious mood and
it symbolizes that Lila is going deeper into the hidden secrets. The shot then edited
to another brighter room with lights on and a worn out setting continues with Lila
opens the door producing a creaking noise. Then, it shows a medium shot of a back
of a woman sitting on a chair with her hair tied in a bun. Lila then walks closer to
the woman and call Mrs. Bates. When she is walking, the camera is constantly stay
and Lila is getting closer and the focus point changes from the hanging light bulb to
her face. Her facial expression shows that she is curious about the appearance of
Mrs. Bates in the cellar. She taps on the right shoulder of the woman and the body
of the woman slowly jiggles back and turns over. There is still medium shot when
she taps on her shoulder and audience can see the shadow of the woman reflected on
the wall behind. Then, the shot is cut to a close up shot with the skeletal of the
woman s corpse with empty eye
Research Studies Associate Smallholders With Negative...
Studies associate smallholders with negative attitudes towards index based insurance
within prisms of limited prodding the existing manifold risks. This article analyses
perception of smallholders towards weather index insurance amid common risks and
coping strategies. The study was carried out in Embu County, Eastern Kenya using a
sample of 401 smallholders obtained following a multistage sampling technique. The
study established that the most important risks to the smallholder farmers were
drought, input costs and crop pests and diseases respectively while the least ranked
risks in the same order of importance were excess rains, floods and frost. Similarly,
the results reveal that the smallholder farmers ranked engagement in off farm work,
use of household savings and crop diversification as the most important strategies of
coping with drought. Borrowing from banks, food aid and stopping children from
attending school were also ranked as the least important strategies. In addition, the
findings do not strongly suggest a negative attitude towards weatherindex insurance
among smallholders thus controverting hitherto studies that do not overly explain
why? Furthermore the study rather postulates that other risks facing smallholders and
their riskresponses disposition may distort and override farmers attitude towards
weather index insurance. The Ordered probit model output reveals that sex of the

French Revolution Influence on the Arts
Late eighteenth century France was embattled with a mix of social and political
unrest. While the austerity of the citizenry hit new heights, the aristocracy and
royalty were smitten with their luxurious, palatial surroundings. Socioeconomic
instability and polarity, during this time, influenced artists to break norms and seek
meaningful art as a way to define the period. Illiteracy in eighteenth century Europe
created opportunities for art to be a tool for encouraging revolution fervor. Over the

the lines of style and the way in which materials were handled. One of the more

The Goals Of Love And Romantic Relationships
In a disquieting chapter on Love and Romantic Relationships, Kenrick, Neuberg,
Cialdini (2015) list the goals of love and romantic relationships as 1) obtaining
sexual gratification , 2) establishing a family bond , and 3) gaining resources and
social status (p. 246). The authors use the unconventional (p. 273) relationship of
Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo as a positive (p. 273) example of a love relationship.
Numerous questions and philosophical issues may be raised by the authors
perspective. One of which is that the goals listed above seem to be self focused. Are
love and romantic relationships truly about having one s own needs met? Questions
like this can best be answered by understanding the difference between selfishness,
selflessness, and altruism.
In a PowerPoint presentation (2010), Kenrick, Neuberg, Cialdini define pure altruism
as, behavior that benefits another intentionally for no external or internal reward
(slide 66). Neel Burton M.D. (2016) further clarifies,
An act should not be written off as selfish or self motivated simply because it
includes some inevitable element of self interest [or reward]. The act can still be
counted as altruistic if the selfish element is accidental; or, if not accidental, then
secondary; or, if neither accidental nor secondary, then undetermining... [This is the]
very heart of ancient virtue, which can be defined as the perfection of our nature
through the triumph of reason over passion. The truly altruistic act

Sympathy For Peace In The Film Hacksaw Ridge
The soldier above all others prays for peace, for it is the soldier who must suffer and
bear the deepest wounds and scars of war. (Douglas MacArthur). Soldiers are the
people who are the most adamant in praying for peace because they are the ones that
fight and die. These scenes of death and bravery and desiring peace are displayed in a
film by Mel Gibson titled Hacksaw Ridge. In the film, Hacksaw Ridge, director Mel
Gibson kept some events from The Battle of Okinawathe same but changed some of
the events leading up to the film in order to set the plotand create sympathy for the
characters The movie, Hacksaw Ridge, depicted true events from The Battle of

Summary of Defending Against the Indefensible Essay
In Neil Postman s Defending Against the Indefensible , he suggests that our society
has been culturally brainwashed. Therefore, Postman has given us seven key
elements of critical thinking to help us understand the English language and avoid
the manipulation of language: definition, questions, simplicity of words, metaphors,
reification, style and tone, and the non neutrality of media. Postman s first principle
is that a definition is only a means of helping us achieve our goals. Definitions do
not have the power to stop us from achieving our purposes. Definitions will always
have a bias. It is our job to spot that bias and questionwho wrote the definition, why,
and for what purpose. The word organic is seen quiet frequently... Show more content

What was considered right to Hitler was very contrary to what was right to Churchill
during World War Two. Students who can understand the meanings of these small
words will be able to understand how the media, politicians, and preachers may try to
mislead or cover up. Fourth, students must realize how much metaphors are used in
the english language. Not only are metaphors used so commonly, they also greatly
influence the way we think about things. All subjects are based on metaphors.
Education is currently seen as a business with the students as the clients. Language is
a tree with deep roots. Metaphors are a cornerstone to how we grasp concepts and
understand the knowledge we have. We really only know things in relation to other
things, often by a metaphor Postman s fifth concept is reification. This is the
confusing of words with things. It is with reification, that we can manipulate
words to help us conceal ideas. Words like ethnic cleansing or final solution make a
concept sound like it is a good thing, yet it really involves the massacre of millions
of people. Reification displays to us that a person s word choice is profoundly
influential to how we perceive a concept. Style and tone is the sixth concept used by
Postman. All subjects of knowledge are like genres. They share certain qualities that
are distinctive to the subject matter. A man of science could not write about history
Palm Beach Story Sociology
One of the more interesting pieces of screwball comedy is a film directed by
Preston Sturges, The Palm Beach Story. Released seventy five years ago in 1942,
this film focuses on a married couple, Tom and Gerry, that is in a worn relationship
due to their financial problems. Gerry leaves Tom in order to marry a wealthy man
that could fund Tom s airport project. Through her trip, she meets a group of
millionaire members of a hunting club where things take a turn for the worse. With
the Great Depressionstill affecting millions of people, it s easy to see how
disgraceful these wealthy group of individuals act on the train. As well as, the
millionaire John D. Hackensacker III, that Gerry bumps into shows us that the film
does not take kindly to how these wealthy men spend their fortunes, as he purchases
thousands of dollars worth of clothes and jewelry. However, I want to focus mainly

This film may not show that all wealthy people are unpleasant, but the Ale and
Quail club members are mostly depicted in such a way to make the audiences
dislike them. Their singing, shooting, and barraging amount of disturbance caused

people. Also, with the film releasing so close after the Great Depression, it makes
it even more relatable to the audiences as they can see how these wealthy people
essentially throw away money by buying things or wasting them on other materials
that the average American may have a hard time saving up to do so. With that in

Nike is a multinational corporation founded by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman in
1964. Nike produces, markets and sells athletic footwear, apparel and other
accessories. Even though they have a great reputation with their products, Nike is
not seen as a good corporate citizen. Nike does not have enough campaigns that
they do globally, especially in Asia after allegedly being accused of Violating
Labour Laws in 1996. Nike was involved in Child labour. The only active campaign
they have running globally is the Active Schools Campaign.
There are many strategies and tactics that Nike could use to build back their
reputation and regain the consumer base they lost when this issue started. With the
large social media platforms Nike has, They are able to show the campaigns that they

causing problems for animals, sea creatures, and even humans. They have the ability
to cling and adhere to any man made, living, natural object, or creature when placed

characteristics, traits, and ways of thriving, surviving, and of course, unknowingly

example of victims affected by zebra mussels. Even though the mussels can kill
and wipe out creatures in water, they supply food for animals or birds on land.
Research suggests that ducks migrate towards areas where zebra mussels abide to
later devour them. In addition, because the mussels filtrate the water where they
occupy and sunlight is able to reach new depths, plants are able to grow in larger
areas making more habitats for young fish and
Children With An Intellectual Disability
I felt very privileged to be able to get the opportunity to listen to Jo and Jody talk
about their lives. Both of these individuals broaden my perspective on life and how
I can do things to impact others lives. I think overall the health of these individuals
have directly impacted their lives and longevity. It was amazing seeing how these
two interacted with each other and hearing about the great joy they both brought to
each other s lives. Things have not always been easy for this pair, but having each
other has been crucial when overcoming certain challenges and obstacles in their
lives. Jo began explaining what it was like having a child with an intellectual
disabilityfrom early on. When Jody was born, Jo and his wife were given to option
of whether or not they wanted to keep him. During this time, it was something that
was not uncommon for parents with children that were born with a disability to be
asked. Several of these parents had the choice of whether or not to keep and raise
their children or the child could be taken away and be put into an institution. In
these institutions, these children were treated poorly and did not receive the proper
treatment they needed or deserve. Jo described how this was not a choice for his
wife or him and that they were going to take Jody home and raise him like they
would another other child. This was the same attitude Jo and his wife had when
raising Jody and did everything they could to provide him with the best quality

How Did Leonardo Da Vinci Influence Renaissance Art
Renaissance painting and sculpture produced in Europe during the historical
Renaissance is considered to cover at least 200 years between 1400 and 1600. The
word renaissance is derived from the French and translated literally means rebirth.
The Renaissance period in art history resembles a time during the western age of
discovery and exploration. Art and sculpture, during this time, became appreciated as
a personal manner of communication and expression. Sculptors were the first to
present new Renaissanceforms during the early 15th century. The oldest sculptor was
Filippo Brunelleschi. Brunelleschi later became an architect and was widely known

the duration of the 15th and 16th century, the influence of the Renaissance spread all

Straits of Gibraltar, Mediterranean Outflow The Strait of Gibraltar is located between
the northern coast of Morocco and the southern coast of Spain. It is the only place
that allows the water of the Mediterranean to mix with the water from the Atlantic
Ocean. The Strait of Gibraltar is narrow strait separating peninsular Spain and
Gibraltar in Morocco and Europe from Morocco as well as the Ceuta/ Spain in

They include the upper layer of the Atlantic water flowing eastward above the
heavier and saltier Mediterranean water that flows eastwards into the Atlantic
Ocean. Also, it is referred to as the Mediterranean outflow water (Wesson Gregg,
2009). As the Mediterranean water flows to the sea it follows the rising sea floor
creating series of internal waves which are not easy seen because they do not
generate large waves, but rather horizontal surface currents that affect the roughness
of the sea surface. Internal waves can be seen from space suing special radar method
capable of detecting sensitive changes in the roughness of the water surface. The
direct link created by the Strait of Gibraltar between the Mediterranean and the
Atlantic Ocean is responsible for the generation of unique wave patterns and unique
flow. The unique patterns created as a result of the interaction between the global
evaporative and different regional forces, wind forces, and tidal forces (Robinson
Paola, 2005).
Inflow and outflow: the water flowing through the Strait are more or less continuous
in both the westward and the eastward directions. The larger amount of water
comprising of the surface water of lower density and salinity flows continually
eastwards (the Mediterranean inflow) while the smaller water amounts of deeper,
saltier and heavier water flows continually westwards (the Mediterranean outflow).

The Homelessness And Substance Abuse
Abstract
Homelessness and substance abuse are an issue for the U.S. and many other
countries. There are numerous studies that articulate substance abuse as the cause for
homelessness. Even though this may be true, this paper will explore how those who
are homeless may be introduced to substance abuse once on the streets. While there is
conflicting information of the cause and effect of both homelessness and substance
abuse, this paper will give the reader the necessary information to conclude that
substance can indeed lead to the abuse of various drugs and alcohol in many cases.
It will discuss the importance of treating both of these issues together and the role
that the church can have for those who are living on the streets and are abusing
drugs and alcohol. This paper discusses various topics to support this claim by
statistical research and research that has been given forehand by actual homeless
individuals who have become substance abusers. Research has been gathered from
various peer reviewed journal articles and textbooks. How Homelessness can Lead to
Substance Abuse
There are unfortunate events that may take place in someone s life, which can
lead to stress. Sometimes a crisis or a traumatic event can come without any
warnings. A crisis can be a problem that is too great for someone to handle, but it is
not always bad (Wright, 2011). Trauma is the response to any event that shatters a
person s safe world, so that it is no longer a place they can feel safe

Character Analysis Of Midaq Alley
The novel, Midaq Alley, written by Naguib Mahfouz, tells the story of various
characters living in a poor alley in Egypt during World War I. Of all the people in
Midaq Alley, Hamida is the one who lusts most for an escape from tradition and
poverty. She despises her traditional culture, and longs for a life free from the
social and cultural constraints that fall upon her. Hamida is introduced as a strong
character; however, the temptation of modernization guides her towards a more
enticing lifestyle. Hamida s character portrays how easy it is for one to abandon
their culture, traditions and values. It also portrays change in all aspects of
Egyptian life, including religion, wealth and traditions. The description Mahfouz
gives of Hamida makes her out to be the most beautiful girl in the alley.
Immediately, her beauty captures the reader s attention, and causes her to stand out
in the novel. In fact, her beauty created chaos among the men in the alley, and is
conveyed in the line she was constantly beset by a desire to fight and conquer...this
she showed in her pleasure in attracting men [Mahfouz, 39]. In the third chapter of
the novel, Hamida was described as a beautiful, shapely, dark eyed girl in her

Expansion And Dismantling Of The British Empire Case

Assess the significance of the role of individuals in bringing about the expansion and
dismantling of the British Empire in Africa in the period c1870 c1981.
The two factors that led to the formal occupation of North Africa in 1882 was
economic and political factors. Britain wanted to protect their economic interests
such as their investment in The Suez Canal. In 1875 Prime Minister Benjamin
Disraeli bought a 44% share in the Suez Canal this was ultimately beneficial for
Britain as this was a cheaper way to export goods into Egypt whilst simultaneously

What must be realized though, is that in the society of Gattaca, those who are

ABSTRACT
The bacterial spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi is the causative agent of the most
commonly reported arthropod borne illness in the United States, Lyme disease. Select
proteins produced by B. burgdorferi contain the von Willebrand Factor A (VWFA)
domain, which is responsible for cell adhesion via interaction with the extracelluar

colonize, transmit, and infect. BB0173, a VWFA domain containing protein, has been
evaluated based on topology and adherence to human ECM proteins and integrins, to
evaluate its role during the infection process. The confirmation of protein localization
was performed by cloning the each of the three BB0173 transmembrane domains

using lysates from B.
Nicotine Vs Nicotine Essay
The popularity of e cigarettes and vapes has grown exponentially within the last
couple of years. These two alternatives offer a safe way to consume nicotine or just a
substitute to regular cigarette smoking. These products omit water vapor instead of
tobacco smoke, constructing it as less of a health risk. Nicotinecan be added to the
mixture to help quit smokingor offer a healthier option to those with nicotine
dependence. There has not been widespread research on conventional e cigarettes, in
addition to data on vapes been relatively premature. These smoking devices have not
be regulated by the FDA yet, but the FDA has looked into e cigarettes and its
contents (FDA, 2015). Many e cigarettes that are thought to be free of nicotine, have

It is the most common addiction throughout the world with 1.1 trillion people
smoking currently, consisting about a third of the population over 15 years old.
While nicotine is the addictive substance in the tobacco that causes addiction,
tobacco will increase health risks of heart attack and vascular diseases. Nicotine
dependency is a complex brain disease, and we need to start thinking of it as such.
New ways of ingesting this substance have been created, that try to lure and appeal
to demographic, particularly younger, to consume nicotine. Regardless of how
many years someone has smoked, stopping at any point will valuable and improve
your quality of life. Changing the public s view on addiction is a subject of
importance, so many of others can view this as a brain disease more than a
personal decision. To fight this addiction, you have to rewire your behaviors in
your brain and have a drive to overcome this horrific addiction. The brain can luckily
keep changing and be trained to stop cravings with a multitude of different strategies.
Anyone can be affected by addiction, we need start treating addicts with evidence
based practices rather than jailing them. Through more education and laws enforced,
we can only hope that the number of tobacco users can decrease more and everyone
can learn to live a healthier, full life without addiction and the painful diseases that

The Bolsheviks and Marxism
Analyzing the Bolshevik State compared to Marxism can be difficult because Marx,
Engels and their followers gave relatively little thought to what the state would look
like after a socialist revolution. Engels famously wrote, the state is not abolished, it
withers away, which highlights the hazy and unfixed nature of Marx and Engle s
writings on the ultimate, classless society they envisioned. Further, what they did
write is subject to the differing interpretations by numerous socialist parties all
claiming to be Marxist. As discussed earlier, Lenin claimed he simply reshaped
Marxismto fit the conditions of Russia. Others argue his interpretation was not true
Marxism at all. However, the basic principles of a socialist state in the eyes of
Marx s are outlined in the Communist Manifesto as follows: 1. Abolition of property
in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.

2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.

3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.

4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.

5. Centralization of credit in the hands of the state, by means of a national bank with
State capital and an exclusive monopoly.

6. Centralization of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the
State.

7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State; the
bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in
accordance with a common plan.

8.
Forced Migration
Immigrants all around the world come to the United States. Most people who
immigrated to the U.S. come from Mexico because they want to work to send money
back home to their families. Some immigrants leave their countries because they
want to live in another place. One of the worst reasons immigration happens is
because of forced removal. Young immigrants come to school to enhance their future
to start a new life here because of war or the economy in their country. About 11.4
million undocumented immigrants residing in the U.S. paid $11,840,943,000 in state
and local taxes in 2012. If all 11.4 million undocumented immigrants were granted
legal permanent residence as well as granted permission to work in the country
legally, their state and
Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome
The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism describes alcoholism as a
disease whose signs and symptoms include:
* craving for alcohol
* loss of control, with difficulty or inability to stop drinking once alcohol
consumption begins
* physical dependence, causing alcohol withdrawal symptoms (such as nausea,
anxiety, tremors, and diaphoresis) after alcohol intake ceases
* alcohol tolerance the desire or need to consume greater amounts of alcohol to obtain
the same effect.
Alcohol consumption is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. Worldwide, the
mortality attributable to alcohol is at 3.8%. (Thebault, Falcoff, Favre Rigal, 2015).
According to the World Health Organization s statistics, alcohol kills 2.5 million...

Meticulous, ongoing assessment is critical for early identification of symptom
severity and potential complications so appropriate treatment can be provided, and
the patient evaluated in terms of overall progress. Nurses should recognize clinical
features of alcohol withdrawal in any patient admitted to the hospital. Timely
sedation will prevent the onset of convulsion or progression to delirium tremens.
The most effective regimen is to control the agitation, sweating, and tremor with
symptom triggered dosing. Nurses assessment skills are central to use of symptom
triggered dosing in any setting. While standing orders are common for fixed dose
scheduling, the skilled nurse is able to provide optimal care through symptom
triggered dosing. Under the provider s orders, benzodiazepines should be
administered when the patient shows early signs of withdrawal to prevent
progression of the symptoms. The goal is to keep the patient mildly sedated or in a
calm, tranquil state while still allowing easy arousal (Donnelly, Kent Wilkinson Rush,
The Italian Culture And Its Impact On Western Culture
Italy, European nation with a long Mediterranean coastline, has left an intense stamp
on Western culture and cooking. Its capital, Rome, is home to the Vatican and
additionally historic point craftsmanship and antiquated remains. The Italian culture
is maybe one of the wealthiest societies in the whole southern Europe. It has an
extremely rich history in regard to its popular customs, traditions, great design and
workmanship. . According to Fouberg there can be a lot of different things that you
consider a custom. (Fouberg 114) History Italy, which means the whole peninsula
south of the Alps, is known in that capacity from about the first century BC. A few
centuries sooner, when the name initially shows up, it is utilized just of the region in
the outrageous south the toe of the landmass. In the first century BC Italy is under
the control of a single power, Rome, and it will remain so until the fifth century AD.
The peninsula again turns into a political substance, as the modern country of Italy,
in 1861. In every single other time of ancient times and history this most attractive of
domains has been shared and battled about by various adversary gatherings. Around
700 BC most of the tribes in Italy are moderately late entries, either via arrive from
the north or via ocean over the Adriatic. They are Indo Europeans, talking the
subgroup of language known as Italic. Be that as it may, the predominant gathering
right now, the Etruscans, are of some unique birthplace. Where
Intrinsic And Extrinsic Motivations
4.What motivates you extrinsically? What are your intrinsic motivations? How do
you balance extrinsic and intrinsic motivation in your life?
In terms of extrinsic motivations, I think that I am motivated by praise, reputation,
and financial gain. While money is not the most important aspect of a career, I
would like to earn a salary that helps me maintain a modest living. Being self aware,
I realize that I want a career where I can help others, which is an intrinsic motivation.
This is another reason why I was unhappy in my accounting co op position,
because it was very difficult for me to accomplish tasks that didn t help others. As a
result, I wouldn t take a lucrative job offer if it didn t provide me with benevolent
job responsibilities. In order to balance my intrinsic and extrinsic motivations, I think
that compromise is key. Since life s challenges can interfere with one s morals, I
realize that it may be difficult to compromise in certain situations. However, I think
that success in the business world ultimately stems from ethical actions, because it
will cultivate trust within your customers. As a result, my goal is to work for
companies who care about their stakeholders, because the results will pay off in the
long run.
Not to sound like a millennial clichГ©, but I want my work to be meaningful for
others and myself. This objective stems from my intrinsic motivations, but praise
from colleagues, superiors, and customers will ensure that my work is meaningful.
Masculinity For Guys
For many years, beard has been an emblem of masculinity for men. Their facial
hair and rugged aura has been an indicator that they are capable and competent.
Their beard, matched with proud and brawny physique is a distinct representation
of their manly gender. Fact: Guys can have sensitive skin too. And it can be worse
to them because they are designed to have hair glands surrounding the lower half of
their face. Imagine stubbles growing on the upper and lower moth as well as the
chin. This can be a double whammy for then and takes an extra effort for them to
achieve a smooth, good looking skin. Yes, even men want that! Men with sensitive
skin can experience redness, itchiness, irritation and believe it or no, even dandruff
on areas where hairs grow. And with the call of neatness, religious shaving can
aggravate the skin condition.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of essential oil for beards is now gaining attention and getting a lot of
positive responses from the people who tried it. Come to think of it, beards should be
given an equal attention as the hair growing in the
What Is Authorial Reticence In Chronicle Of A Death
Foretold
Chronicle of a Death Foretold, published in 1981, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, is a
narrative about a Colombian of Arabic descent by the name of Santiago Nasar who
was murdered 27 years ago for supposedly deflowering Angela Vicario when she
was returned by her groom on her wedding night she was asked who had taken her
virginity in an improper state pf mind she hastily names Santiago thus serving a
catalyst when her brothers, Pedro and Pablo, set out to kill him in order to restore
her honor. While a work of fiction, it was infact based on a true story, and most still
holds true in society today. As mentioned in our interactive oral, on January 22, 1951
Cayetano Gentile Chimento, was murdered by the Chica brothers who like the
Vicario brothers killed Chimento... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By definition, authorial reticence is the intentional suspension of information in order
to put emphasis on something of greater importance. In this narrative Marquez
intentionally leaves out the identity of the narrator and setting of the plot in order to
emphasize the murder itself along with why people let the murder go on as planned
and why a man was killed for something he may have not even done. In the novel it is
frequently exclaimed that the townspeople had thought Santiago had prior
knowledge of the murder since everyone in the town knew and someone was
bound to tell him, however since everyone expressed this same ideology they had
failed to warn him of such. This is still seen in society today and is known as the
bystander effect, which is the social psychological phenomenon that suggests that an
individual is less likely to act on something when a large amount of people are
present since they feel it isn t their responsibility to do so and that someone else will
take it upon themself to do so
The Dangers Of Deer Overpopulation
In the early twentieth century, hunter funded state and federal conservation programs
rescued deer, elk, bears, turkeys and more from disappearing. Hunting benefits the
environment and the economy due to the risk of overpopulation of animals, the taxes
on hunting license and hunting equipment, jobs, along with the crops planted by
hunters feeds the animals. In the early twentieth century, there were approximately
500,000 white tailed deer inhabiting the United States. (Swihart) Since then, several
studies have been conducted proving that there are problems with deer
overpopulation. Research has displayed that there are three prominent units that the
causes come from; human overpopulation, elimination of their natural predators ,
along with lack of huntingto control the population. (Lane) Human overpopulation
has affected the deer population due to the fact that as the human population has
increased the need for homes, food and water supply, as well as other extra things
such as malls, highways and much more. The need for those has resulted in humans
cutting down trees and destroying the habitats of the deer which has lead to the
population moving to other areas and causing disease because the population is to
high none area. The eradication of their natural predators is the result of removing the
deers natural predators; this would result in the deer overpopulating. The lack of
hunting to control the population would lead to an increase in the population in urban
Consequences And Development Of The DNA And The
Polymerase...
We start with a piece of DNA to the direction of 3 to 5 strand of DNA is called the
template strand. Initiation begins at the promoter region or the consensus sequences.
The promoter region of the DNA is at the beginning of the gene. Two important
finding regions occur at 10 base pairs and 35 base pairs upstream of transcription.
Both sequences are important as mutations can prevent initiation. Common in
Bacteria is the 10 region also known as the pribnow box. It is a series of thymine and
adenine residues. The pribnow box is important for the recognition of the promoter
region, other 10 and 35 consensus sequences exist but are recognized in a different
manner. Another important locator on the DNAstrand is the initiation site or... Show

In a given cell order there are numerous types of sigma factors. Under normal
condition or under stress different sigma factors recognize different promoter regions.
Now that the holoenzyme is complete, the formation of the transcription bubble can
take place. The RNA polymerase unwinds the DNA by itself. In order to start
transcription energy from a ATP or GTP is required, where the ribose from the
triphosphate provides a 3 hydroxyl to attack the first phosphate in the first nucleotide,
this displaces the pyrophosphate. The new RNA therefore has a triphosphate at its 5
end. Once transcription has started the sigma factor falls off.
The next stage is elongation. Elongation occurs when approximately 12
nucleotides have been added to the RNA strand and the sigma subunit is
dissociated and the polymerase has started to move from the promoter region.
When the RNA is synthesized it is made in opposite polarity to the template DNA
strand, meaning the 3 end of the RNA faces the same direction at the 5 end of the
DNA. Inside the transcription bubble nucleotides come inside the RNA polymerase
to make a complementary strand to the template strand of DNA. Here all base pairs
match up like in DNA synthesis only instead of thymine uracil is paired with
Adenine for RNA synthesis. Constant unwinding can lead to supercoiling of the
DNA, which is like a telephone cord that is twisted at one end. Eventually stress in
the middle of

The action of the play takes place in all boys grammar school in Sheffield, in the 1980 s where it focuses on a group of sixth intelligent boys with fighting for the chance to gain scholarships to go to either Oxford or Cambridge. Bennet gives an insight of what the education was like in the north of England in the 1980 s. During this time the play was originated under Thatcher s conservative regime. Throughout the play Bennett shows the relationship between Hector one of the teachers and his students. Child, I am your teacher. Whatever I do in this room is a token of my trust. Hector is passionate and does it to the love and trust of his students, whereas Irwin is straight out with Hectors, Irwin implies the proper educational strategies that need to be taught. Further through the play, in a heated discussion between Headmaster and Mrs. Lintott, Headmaster is believed to criticise yet again Hectors teaching views. The authors use the unconventional (p. 273) relationship of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo as a positive (p. 273) example of a love relationship. Numerous questions and philosophical issues may be raised by the authors perspective. One of which is that the goals listed above seem to be self focused. Are love and romantic relationships truly about having one s own needs met? Questions like this can best be answered by understanding the difference between selfishness, selflessness, and altruism. In a PowerPoint presentation (2010), Kenrick, Neuberg, Cialdini define pure altruism as, behavior that benefits another intentionally for no external or internal reward (slide 66). Neel Burton M.D. (2016) further clarifies, An act should not be written off as selfish or self motivated simply because it includes some inevitable element of self interest [or reward]. The act can still be counted as altruistic if the selfish element is accidental; or, if not accidental, then secondary; or, if neither accidental nor secondary, then undetermining... It was found that La can greatly enhance the cytotoxicity and photocatalytic activity of ZnO nanoparticles towards various cell lines and paracetamol drug. These nanoparticles were characterized by various spectroscopic and other techniques which clearly revealed the presence of lanthanum ions. The UV vis spectroscopy displayed the absorption edge shifts towards the visible region after doping with La which is extremely favorable for absorbing the visible light. We compared the enhancing effect of La ions and found that La doped ZnO nanoparticles is more effective than ZnO nanoparticles in promoting the generation of hydroxyl radicals, holes and the photocatalytic activity of
  • 16. Summary of Defending Against the Indefensible Essay In Neil Postman s Defending Against the Indefensible , he suggests that our society has been culturally brainwashed. Therefore, Postman has given us seven key elements of critical thinking to help us understand the English language and avoid the manipulation of language: definition, questions, simplicity of words, metaphors, reification, style and tone, and the non neutrality of media. Postman s first principle is that a definition is only a means of helping us achieve our goals. Definitions do not have the power to stop us from achieving our purposes. Definitions will always have a bias. It is our job to spot that bias and questionwho wrote the definition, why, and for what purpose. The word organic is seen quiet frequently... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What was considered right to Hitler was very contrary to what was right to Churchill during World War Two. Students who can understand the meanings of these small words will be able to understand how the media, politicians, and preachers may try to mislead or cover up. Fourth, students must realize how much metaphors are used in the english language. Not only are metaphors used so commonly, they also greatly influence the way we think about things. All subjects are based on metaphors. Education is currently seen as a business with the students as the clients. Language is a tree with deep roots. Metaphors are a cornerstone to how we grasp concepts and understand the knowledge we have. We really only know things in relation to other things, often by a metaphor Postman s fifth concept is reification. This is the confusing of words with things. It is with reification, that we can manipulate words to help us conceal ideas. Words like ethnic cleansing or final solution make a concept sound like it is a good thing, yet it really involves the massacre of millions of people. Reification displays to us that a person s word choice is profoundly influential to how we perceive a concept. Style and tone is the sixth concept used by Postman. All subjects of knowledge are like genres. They share certain qualities that are distinctive to the subject matter. A man of science could not write about history

ABSTRACT The bacterial spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi is the causative agent of the most commonly reported arthropod borne illness in the United States, Lyme disease. Select proteins produced by B. burgdorferi contain the von Willebrand Factor A (VWFA) domain, which is responsible for cell adhesion via interaction with the extracelluar matrix (ECM), glycoproteins, and metalloproteases. Such interactions are often an integral part of the infection process and may be especially important for B. burgdorferi, which relies on environmental changes in both the vector and host to colonize, transmit, and infect. BB0173, a VWFA domain containing protein, has been evaluated based on topology and adherence to human ECM proteins and integrins, to evaluate its role during the infection process. The confirmation of protein localization was performed by cloning the each of the three BB0173 transmembrane domains upstream of the luminal P2 domain of the integral membrane protein leader peptidase found in Escherichia coli. Gene expression was investigated via immunoblot assays using lysates from B.

  • 42. The Bolsheviks and Marxism Analyzing the Bolshevik State compared to Marxism can be difficult because Marx, Engels and their followers gave relatively little thought to what the state would look like after a socialist revolution. Engels famously wrote, the state is not abolished, it withers away, which highlights the hazy and unfixed nature of Marx and Engle s writings on the ultimate, classless society they envisioned. Further, what they did write is subject to the differing interpretations by numerous socialist parties all claiming to be Marxist. As discussed earlier, Lenin claimed he simply reshaped Marxismto fit the conditions of Russia. Others argue his interpretation was not true Marxism at all. However, the basic principles of a socialist state in the eyes of Marx s are outlined in the Communist Manifesto as follows: 1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.
 2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
 3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.
 4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.
 5. Centralization of credit in the hands of the state, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.
 6. Centralization of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the State.
 7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State; the bringing into cultivation of waste lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.

Most people who immigrated to the U.S. come from Mexico because they want to work to send money back home to their families. Some immigrants leave their countries because they want to live in another place. One of the worst reasons immigration happens is because of forced removal. Young immigrants come to school to enhance their future to start a new life here because of war or the economy in their country. About 11.4 million undocumented immigrants residing in the U.S. paid $11,840,943,000 in state and local taxes in 2012. If all 11.4 million undocumented immigrants were granted legal permanent residence as well as granted permission to work in the country legally, their state and

Meticulous, ongoing assessment is critical for early identification of symptom severity and potential complications so appropriate treatment can be provided, and the patient evaluated in terms of overall progress. Nurses should recognize clinical features of alcohol withdrawal in any patient admitted to the hospital. Timely sedation will prevent the onset of convulsion or progression to delirium tremens. The most effective regimen is to control the agitation, sweating, and tremor with symptom triggered dosing. Nurses assessment skills are central to use of symptom triggered dosing in any setting. While standing orders are common for fixed dose scheduling, the skilled nurse is able to provide optimal care through symptom triggered dosing. Under the provider s orders, benzodiazepines should be administered when the patient shows early signs of withdrawal to prevent progression of the symptoms. The goal is to keep the patient mildly sedated or in a calm, tranquil state while still allowing easy arousal (Donnelly, Kent Wilkinson Rush,

  • 46. Intrinsic And Extrinsic Motivations 4.What motivates you extrinsically? What are your intrinsic motivations? How do you balance extrinsic and intrinsic motivation in your life? In terms of extrinsic motivations, I think that I am motivated by praise, reputation, and financial gain. While money is not the most important aspect of a career, I would like to earn a salary that helps me maintain a modest living. Being self aware, I realize that I want a career where I can help others, which is an intrinsic motivation. This is another reason why I was unhappy in my accounting co op position, because it was very difficult for me to accomplish tasks that didn t help others. As a result, I wouldn t take a lucrative job offer if it didn t provide me with benevolent job responsibilities. In order to balance my intrinsic and extrinsic motivations, I think that compromise is key. Since life s challenges can interfere with one s morals, I realize that it may be difficult to compromise in certain situations. However, I think that success in the business world ultimately stems from ethical actions, because it will cultivate trust within your customers. As a result, my goal is to work for companies who care about their stakeholders, because the results will pay off in the long run. Not to sound like a millennial clichГ©, but I want my work to be meaningful for others and myself. This objective stems from my intrinsic motivations, but praise from colleagues, superiors, and customers will ensure that my work is meaningful.

Their beard, matched with proud and brawny physique is a distinct representation of their manly gender. Fact: Guys can have sensitive skin too. And it can be worse to them because they are designed to have hair glands surrounding the lower half of their face. Imagine stubbles growing on the upper and lower moth as well as the chin. This can be a double whammy for then and takes an extra effort for them to achieve a smooth, good looking skin. Yes, even men want that! • 48. What Is Authorial Reticence In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold Chronicle of a Death Foretold, published in 1981, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, is a narrative about a Colombian of Arabic descent by the name of Santiago Nasar who was murdered 27 years ago for supposedly deflowering Angela Vicario when she was returned by her groom on her wedding night she was asked who had taken her virginity in an improper state pf mind she hastily names Santiago thus serving a catalyst when her brothers, Pedro and Pablo, set out to kill him in order to restore her honor. While a work of fiction, it was infact based on a true story, and most still holds true in society today. As mentioned in our interactive oral, on January 22, 1951 Cayetano Gentile Chimento, was murdered by the Chica brothers who like the Vicario brothers killed Chimento... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By definition, authorial reticence is the intentional suspension of information in order to put emphasis on something of greater importance. In this narrative Marquez intentionally leaves out the identity of the narrator and setting of the plot in order to emphasize the murder itself along with why people let the murder go on as planned and why a man was killed for something he may have not even done. In the novel it is frequently exclaimed that the townspeople had thought Santiago had prior knowledge of the murder since everyone in the town knew and someone was bound to tell him, however since everyone expressed this same ideology they had failed to warn him of such. This is still seen in society today and is known as the bystander effect, which is the social psychological phenomenon that suggests that an individual is less likely to act on something when a large amount of people are present since they feel it isn t their responsibility to do so and that someone else will take it upon themself to do so
  • 49. The Dangers Of Deer Overpopulation In the early twentieth century, hunter funded state and federal conservation programs rescued deer, elk, bears, turkeys and more from disappearing. Hunting benefits the environment and the economy due to the risk of overpopulation of animals, the taxes on hunting license and hunting equipment, jobs, along with the crops planted by hunters feeds the animals. In the early twentieth century, there were approximately 500,000 white tailed deer inhabiting the United States. (Swihart) Since then, several studies have been conducted proving that there are problems with deer overpopulation. Research has displayed that there are three prominent units that the causes come from; human overpopulation, elimination of their natural predators , along with lack of huntingto control the population. (Lane) Human overpopulation has affected the deer population due to the fact that as the human population has increased the need for homes, food and water supply, as well as other extra things such as malls, highways and much more. The need for those has resulted in humans cutting down trees and destroying the habitats of the deer which has lead to the population moving to other areas and causing disease because the population is to high none area. The eradication of their natural predators is the result of removing the deers natural predators; this would result in the deer overpopulating. The lack of hunting to control the population would lead to an increase in the population in urban
  • 50. Consequences And Development Of The DNA And The Polymerase... We start with a piece of DNA to the direction of 3 to 5 strand of DNA is called the template strand. Initiation begins at the promoter region or the consensus sequences. The promoter region of the DNA is at the beginning of the gene. Two important finding regions occur at 10 base pairs and 35 base pairs upstream of transcription. Both sequences are important as mutations can prevent initiation. Common in Bacteria is the 10 region also known as the pribnow box. It is a series of thymine and adenine residues. The pribnow box is important for the recognition of the promoter region, other 10 and 35 consensus sequences exist but are recognized in a different manner. Another important locator on the DNAstrand is the initiation site or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a given cell order there are numerous types of sigma factors. Under normal condition or under stress different sigma factors recognize different promoter regions. Now that the holoenzyme is complete, the formation of the transcription bubble can take place. The RNA polymerase unwinds the DNA by itself. In order to start transcription energy from a ATP or GTP is required, where the ribose from the triphosphate provides a 3 hydroxyl to attack the first phosphate in the first nucleotide, this displaces the pyrophosphate. The new RNA therefore has a triphosphate at its 5 end. Once transcription has started the sigma factor falls off. The next stage is elongation. Elongation occurs when approximately 12 nucleotides have been added to the RNA strand and the sigma subunit is dissociated and the polymerase has started to move from the promoter region. When the RNA is synthesized it is made in opposite polarity to the template DNA strand, meaning the 3 end of the RNA faces the same direction at the 5 end of the DNA. Inside the transcription bubble nucleotides come inside the RNA polymerase to make a complementary strand to the template strand of DNA. Here all base pairs match up like in DNA synthesis only instead of thymine uracil is paired with Adenine for RNA synthesis. Constant unwinding can lead to supercoiling of the DNA, which is like a telephone cord that is twisted at one end. Eventually stress in the middle of
