African films (referred to as Nollywood) consist of films produced in
Nigeria. Its history dates back to as early as the late 19th century
which means it has been around for a long time. Due to this, the
films are hugely popular within the West-African community in
London, however, that is all it amounts to. There are various big
production and distribution companies on Nigeria which have
produced very good films.
3. SILVERGROUP
DISTRIBUTION
‘Silvergroup’ distribution is a Nigerian multi-national media
and entertainment company headquartered in Lagos. The
company was established in 1980 by Ben Murray-Bruce and
has gone on to be one of the most popular entertainment
companies in Nigeria and beyond.
4. BLUE PICTURES
‘Bluebird Pictures’ is a leading film distribution & consulting
company based in Nigeria with a link to West African territories.
Since its launch in 2006, Blue pictures has established a good
working relationship with independent studios worldwide and act as
Sub distribution Consultant to the major studios like Walt Disney,
Warner Bros and 20th Century Fox. This showcases how African
films are starting to evolve.

Nyong’o)
5. FILM ONE
DISTRIBUTION‘FilmOne’ is an independent distributor of filmed entertainment
providing top-end film release services with emphasis in Nigerian
territory. They also distribute a wide-range of mainstream films.
This is the one of the biggest and main company in Nigeria.
Examples of films: ‘Gone Too Far’ ‘FIFTY’ ‘Out of Luck’.
6. All of these distribution and production companies are very
popular within Nigerian but they are independent which
means the films produced do not have as much money to
spend as the ‘Big Six’ studios which is how they produce
blockbusters.
In 2009, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organization (UNESCO) rated Nollywood as the
second biggest film industry in the world in terms of output
which is a well-deserved achievement.
