Distribution of a film is crucial in order for a film to be successful. The
Distribution of the film is the section in which the marketing, advertising and
where the film is made available for the audience to use. The big 6 are the
main distributes of global films, they are Universal, 20th Century Fox, Warner
Bros, Paramount, Columbia, and Walt Disney Studios will be the distributers
that put out tent pole films. However I would not be able to use such a large
platform for my film, I would have to use a small, more local distributer such
as , BBC, Film 4, Microwave, Lionsgate, Pathe or Studio Canal.
3. LIONSGATE
Lionsgate is a Canadian/American film production
and distribution studio. It focuses on foreign and
independent films, it is also the distributer of the
world famous Twilight film series. Lionsgate is the
largest and most successful mini-major film
studio in North America.
4. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer

distributers. It was founded in 1924 by
entertainment entrepreneur Marcus Loew. MGM
now co-produces, co-finances, and co-distributes
a large portion of their films with Sony Pictures
Entertainment, however this is not an agreement
exclusive as MGM has partnered with Paramount
Films on a few films.
5. Film 4
Film4 is a UK television channel that is run by the
Channel Four Television Corporation. The channel
screens film to the television, it screens some big
release films, such as Up and Avatar, however it
also screens some less known named films.
6. Paramount

studio based Paramount Pictures Corporation is a
Hollywood based film studio that has been a subsidiary of
American media conglomerate Viacome since 1994.

decide to only distribute their films on a digital platform
in 2014. Paramount is the distributer of some of the
biggest films, such as Star Trek and Titanic.
7. BBC Films
BBC Films is the feature film-making company owned by
the BBC. It was founded in 1990 and based in London, it is
known for its British films and has produced or co-
produced some of the most successful British films in
recent times, including An Education, StreetDance
3D, Fish Tank, Nativity!, , Billy Elliot and Brooklyn. BBC
Films co-produces around eight films a year, working in
partnership with major international and UK distributors.
8. My Distribution
From these Distributers, I would use BBC films and MGM for my distribution,
the reasons for this being. My film is a spy film that is shot in England, using
English actors and many iconographies of the British Culture, furthermore
shows a very modern day thought process in it, by portraying women as just
as able and powerful as men, it also shows people of other ethnic origins in a
good nature as Nina is working at a legitimate office job. This would fit the
ethos and reputation of the BBC as it would help to “inform, educate,
entertain” their viewers, which is fits perfectly with their mission statement.
MGM is a large distributer that is the most widely used distributer for film in
my genre, it is used by the most recognisable franchise in the genre in James
Bond.
