Family Themes In David Copperfield
We are going to focus on the book David Copperfield out of all that concern the theme of family and
parenting issues, although Dickens s work is known for the transition from childhood to adulthood
theme, we can draw some scenes with the family theme and another theme that wasn t really a matter
in the time when Dickens wrote, the adoption which was added later in the Victorian time. Charles
Dickens also targeted the father figure in his works, how he was viewed and how children dealt with
the absent of a father figure.
Parents are important for the right upbringing of a child, their support and their care shape the child in
what it would be in the future; the way parents behave and talk, their temperament also has an
influence in the upbringing due to the fact that children copy what their parents do most of the times
and a bad influence in going to take them on the wrong path when they grown up.
As the book opens, we find out the David s father has passed away before the ... Show more content

Rotary Hoeing Research Paper
melbourneminidiggers.com.au Things to Remember When Hiring a Mini Digger
When you are excavating a property, it is important to hire the right piece of equipment for the task at
hand. A Dingo mini digger or excavator is just as effective, if not more so, than larger pieces of
excavation equipment for many types of situations. To ensure that you receive the right mini digger
for your particular task, you must consider the following things.
Type of Excavation
Understand that type of excavation is necessary for your project. The mini diggers are ideal for the
following tasks:
Trenching
Rotary Hoeing
Post Stump Holes
Stump Grinding
Soil Moving
Small Access Jobs
What Kind of Attachment Is Necessary
Along with the basic mini digger, you will need the right attachment to accomplish your project. The
trencher attachment will dig the hole and then reverse to cover over the trencher once you install the
cables, pipes or other necessary items in the trench. For the garden or other landscape project, the
rotary hoe attachment breaks up the soil to obtain the ideal texture for planting and seeding. Auger
attachments for the diggers come in different sizes to dig post stump holes to the exact dimensions for
your fence or other posts. With the stump grinder for this digger, the operator will be able to grind
right, left and forward, and this ensure that the machine will throw the debris away from the digger at
all times. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Often all these functions are necessary on the same project as far as soil moving is concerned. In
addition, these diggers will fit in tight places where larger machines will not fit to perform all of the

The Cost Of A Rent A Room
Task 1.
James collects £150 state pension per week, which means he receives £7,800 of state pension
annually; pension from his employer is £25,000 per year. These pensions are taxable and treated as
non saving incomes (Lymer and Oats, 2014).
James and his wife Jess let 40% of their house to a tenant, who pays £15,000 rent annually and there
are £2,000 allowable expenses. In this case the allowable expense is only 60% out of £2000 and Wear
and Tear is 10% of rental income. As James and Jess share property income the total income is halved
and James receives £6,150 (Lymer and Oats, 2014).
Another way of calculation is a rent a room scheme. If property income from lodger is higher than
£4,250 this scheme may be used for income ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But his income is higher than £27,000, therefore maximum allowance is constrained to £4,912.5. This
is less than the normal allowance; so he restricted only to £10,000 (Lymer and Oats, 2014).
According to all the workings, the taxable income is calculated and provided in a table below.
James and Jess bought a house in 1991 and lived there since purchasing time, this means that the
house is there only and main residence, therefore they will get qualified only with 60% relief of PPR,
as have let 40% of their house as a residential accommodation. Moreover, they can claim letting relief
either of the gain accruing during the letting period, £40,000 or total gain which is exempt under the
PPR requirements. What is more as husband and wife they have £22,000 CGT relief (split of £11,000
each). Finally Jess will be charged at 18% of CGT as she only has rental income, James s income is
lower than £31,865 and he will be taxed at 18% as well (Lymer and Oats,2014).
Task 2.
As Fred s business is expanding, he can employ one full time employee with an annual salary of
£25,000. Fred has to pay National insurance contribution under the Class 1 rules, as both employer
and employees pay contributions in such businesses (Lymer and Oats, 2014). According to Class 1,
Fred will pay NI of £2,337.72((£480.77 £155) x 13.8% x 52weeks), contribution rate is 13.8%
because employee s weekly income is higher than £155, according to 2105/16 tax rates (GOV.UK,

The Effects Of Drilling On Offshore Drilling
To spark a drastic change, typically something drastic and eye opening needs to occur. Looking back
in recent United States history, there have been many accidents, attacks, and natural disasters that have
sparked conversation as well as legislation for change. The BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, which
began on April 20, 2010 and raged on for months caused tremendous devastation and pollution to the
ecosystem. Discussion about offshore oil drilling and regulations was inevitable after the spill. In
President Obama s Oval Office speech after the spill, he makes a claim that offshore drilling must be
more strictly regulated, and a shift towards clean, renewable energy must be made. In light of this
disaster this is a controversial claim due to the United States current reliance on offshore drilling and
the scandalously close relationship between oil companies and the agency that regulates them.
Although Americans benefit from offshore drilling with cheaper oil prices and affordable energy, and
companies benefit from loose regulations with high profitability, ecosystems and natives suffering
through the spill would argue that these benefits do not outweigh the cost. When President Obama
claims that strict regulation on oil drilling and a shift toward renewable energy through policy
implementation, he threatens a powerhouse market that is a major player in the economy. He also
creates a divide in schools of thought over the reach government through regulation. This paper

The Pros And Cons Of Thatcherism
Thatcherism is defined as the conviction politics, economic, social policy and political style of the
British Conservative politician and Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. An exponent or supporter of
Thatcherism is called a Thatcherite. Margaret Thatcher was born as Margaret Hilda Roberts on
October, 13 1925 in Grantham, England. Her family owned a grocery store and they lived in a flat
above the store. She was introduced to politics from an early age by her father who was a member of
the town s council. Margaret was a good scholar and graduated from Oxford University with a degree
in Chemistry. She married Denis thatcher, who was a wealthy businessman. Her husband did not only

The recessions brought about severe unemployment which has left lasting negative impacts on Britain.
Many industries went bankrupt and workers lost their jobs. Industrial production fell sharply. The
working class suffered the most during the recession. There were nearly 3.3 million people
unemployed in 1984 as compared to 1.5 million when Thatcher first came to power in 1979. This
divided the society into two distinct groups the rich and the poor. No other developed state, with the
exception of New Zealand suffered such a brutal widening of inequality. The Gini coefficient is a
measure of inequality in a society. A score of one would be a completely unequal society; zero would
be completely equal. Britain s Gini core escalated from 0.253 to 0.339 during the time of Thatcherism.
The effects were still felt years later when Thatcher resigned in 1990 and it was found that 28% of
children were still living below the poverty line. Pensioners were the worst hit with the number living
below the poverty line increasing drastically from 13% to 40%. It was also characteristic of a
developed nation to have a high life expectancy going down after the recessions. Unemployment is
very stressful and damaged, not only the morale of the people, but also affected their health. Medical
care was unaffordable resulting in early deaths. After Thatcher resigned, statistics revealed that life
expectancy increased again. People were happier, less stressed and, therefore, healthier. This merely
emphasises the impact that Thatcherism had on the British people. Crime increased during the
Thatcher regime as a direct consequence of unemployment and poverty. With the recession also came
the dissolving of many British families. Divorce rates increased due to financial strain. Thatcher had
no pity for the poor. She went on to say there is no such thing as society . She believed that each
person should learn to survive on their

Cheek Cells Lab Report
Analysis
In the experiment, the scientist observed a series of cells, the first one being cheek cells. After
swabbing the inside of their cheeks and preparing a slide, the scientists were able to see the cytoplasm,
nucleus and cell membrane of this undyed cell. While observing these cells under 400X, they noticed
that the cheek cells varied in shape, some being almost perfectly spherical, while others resembled an
oval figure. Additionally, these cells appeared to be grouped up and messily stacked on top of one
another. The team then observed the same cheek cells, but dyed them, allowing them to more clearly
see the different organelles. They noticed that the nucleus look more defined and the pigmented cell
membranes made it easier to distinguish the different cells from one another. Moreover, the biologists
could see specs within each of the cell s cytoplasm, probably resembling its various organelles. After
drawing what they observed through the compound light microscope, the scientists moved onto the
dyed and undyed onion cells.

previous cells. They noticed that the center of a bacteria blob appeared darkly colored, mostly likely
due to the bacteria cells piling up, while individual strands extending out of the middle. These bacteria
cells were very similar to the cheek cells, as both things were messily stacked, unlike the organized
layout of the onion cells. Although the biologists could distinguish a cell membrane and a cell wall,
they noticed that the cell did not contain a nucleus. The scientists also noticed that the cell did not
contain any visible membrane bound organelles, leading them to believe that this was a prokaryotic

Itp Research Paper
What is ITP? ITP stands for Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura which is a scientific way of saying
the body has an abnormally low number of platelets. These platelets are cells in the blood that help
blood clot. When these cells are present in low numbers excessive bleeding and bruising often occur.
A common symptom is red blotches on the skin that do not blanch. These spots are caused by bleeding
underneath the skin. ITP affects both adults and children. In children, it is normally a temporary
condition. In adults, the condition is often chronic. A diagnosis of ITP is a process of exclusion as
similar symptoms appear in a range of other conditions including HIV and lupus. Once these
conditions are ruled out, treatment begins. The first step to any sort of treatment is to speak with a
physician. Only a doctor is able to diagnose ITP and specialists often work for years or decades to
treat conditions such as ITP. As the condition is often chronic in adults and potentially life threatening,
the most important step to recovery is to see a physician. What is Traditional Chinese Medicine? ...

Themes of Hopelessness in Herman Melville’s Bartleby the...
We can never be one hundred percent certain of the validity of our literary analyses. This is especially
the case with Herman Melville s Bartleby the Scrivener . Critics have been trying for decades to make
sense of the text and most will describe it as inscrutable . I don t claim to know better than the critics,
but instead offer my own interpretation of the work. Based on my observations and analysis, Melville
s use of many elements in his story first and foremost the character of Bartleby, but also the dead
letters, the many walls of Wall Street, and the state of Wall Street itself works well to develop a sense
of hopelessness, whether intentional or not, in the story as well as the narrator and consequently the
reader. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He [the lawyer] refers to Turkey as a most valuable person to me (p. 22) and to Nippers as a very
useful man to me (p. 25). Even Ginger Nut, the office boy, is useful in that his duty as cake and apple
purveyor (p. 27) pacifies Turkey and Nippers and thus keeps them working. In other words, the lawyer
considers his employees useful insofar as he can exploit them and make money from their labor.
(Wilson)
Bartleby, however, who prefers not to do any work after a short period of working in the office,
greatly discourages the lawyer because he does not prove useful in any way.
As a further character development, Melville encourages the reader to consider Bartleby himself as a
type of dead letter (Weinstock). Bartleby doesn t serve the purpose he intended to when he refuses to
do work, in the same way the dead letters (1111) that Bartleby used to work with did not serve the
function they were intended for. It is important to note that in a dead letter office, the letters are
undeliverable and so they have their content destroyed. Bartleby would prefer not to do anything and
thus wasted away to death a drawn out process of content destruction. In this case the content refers to
Bartleby s soul (1098) and hope, and eventually, self.
We can expect that the lawyer s prolonged exposure to an attitude such

Analyze Attitudes and Responses Toward the Poor in Europe...
During the mid 15th century to the early 18th century almost half of Europe s total population could
be considered poor and destitute. The attitudes of the clergy and the attitudes of the socially elite
toward these people varied from pity to disgust, and their proposed solution to these problems
differed. Some suggested helping all of the poor by giving them alms, some warned others to be
careful of whom the money was given to and some people believed that being poor was a voluntary
decision and if they wanted to get out of that situation, they do so without the help of others. In
particular the clergy supported alms giving, government officials and the nobility advocated controlled
giving, and some of the middle class were suspicious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(d 11) He notes that the poor often talk about how accustomed they were to that lifestyle in that they
can be independent and sleep where wherever they want because they have no worries. This view of
the poor can be debated because during the mid 1500s, a peasant revolt occurred and was violently
suppressed when Martin Luther expressed his distain for the stupid peasants and their
misinterpretation of his teachings. In 1625, cardinal Richelieu suggested that people should give
discerningly to the poor because the vagabonds were taking advantage of the situation and were being
helped out by the kindhearted. (d 8) As time progressed new ideas came into society. Instead of giving
freely to the poor, they should be made to work for their money, as Emperor Charles V expressed in
his imperial decree for Netherlands. (d 4) Experience shows that begging for alms . . . errors and
abused will result . . . therefore, he proposed that only the sick and those unable to work should
receive aid. An English doctor noted that beggars, who came to his house, expressed a desire to live a

Civil Rights Act Pros And Cons
Civil Rights Act Following violent demonstrations in Birmingham in 1963, President John F. Kennedy
proposed the Civil Rights Bill (Marsh, 2004). The president took the step as a measure to end the
negative publicity against authorities for using excessive force against protesters. The Civil Rights Act
was signed into law by Kennedy s successor in 1964. The Act was a major victory as it introduced
reforms that undermined the system of racial segregation. It outlawed racial discrimination in voting,
employment, and public service. It also authorized the federal government to take measures to prevent
racial discrimination. The Civil Rights Act was a controversial law given the nature of US politics at

reactions to the ruling. Rosa Park set the stage for civil disobedience and protests against racial

Tony Kushner s Angels in America Essay
Most of the characters in Tony Kushner s Angels in America struggle with their sexuality. Reflected in
this struggle, the homosexual characters are flawed to the degree at which they hide their sexuality.
Prior, Belize, Louis, Joe, and Roy all deal with this issue in the course of the play. Prior is the least
closeted homosexual while Roy is the most. Prior is chosen to be a prophet, is morally upright, and
represents good. Roy, the unlawful lawyer, represents evil. Belize, Louis, and Joe fall in between Prior
and Roy on the scale. By having these particular characters represent what they do, Tony Kushner
places a negative stigma on those in the closet and emphasizes his negative opinion on closeted
homosexuals.

(Kushner 160) and winks at Roy. Then after Roy says Belize has no reason to want to help him, Belize
says, ?Consider it solidarity. One faggot to another? (Kushner 161). The word faggot is typically
regarded as offensive. Being able to call oneself by something that is considered offensive generally
indicates one?s comfortability level with who one is. Through Belize?s comfort level with himself, his
openness about his sexuality reveals itself.
Because Louis is in a relationship with Prior, one would not think Louis would be considered
uncomfortable with his sexuality or closeted; however, in the first few scenes, the audience sees Louis
hiding his homosexuality from his family. When he and Prior are at Louis?s grandmother?s funeral,
the two talk about how Louis does not like to be open around his family. Louis says, ?Sorry I didn?t
introduce you to?.I always get so closety at these family things? (Kushner 25), to which Prior
responds with, ?Butch. You get Butch. ?Hi Cousin Doris, you don?t remember me I?m Lou, Rachel?s
boy.? Lou, not Louis, because if you say Louis they?ll hear the sibilant S? (Kushner 25 26). This
conversation proves Louis?s insecurity about his homosexuality when among family members.
Because of this, Louis cannot be considered completely open with his sexuality.
Joe is definitely not comfortable with his homosexuality. His marriage to Harper confirms his closeted
ness. In act two when Joe comes out to Harper, he flat out tells

The Vignette There Was An Old Woman
Do you believe minors need supervision to make sure they don t do anything? Yummy is about a kid
name Robert Sandifer who is 11 years old and had been involved in a gang named the Black
Disciples, and he tried to prove himself by shooting a rival gang member. When doing that, he missed
and shot Shavon Dean and killed her. After that he had been on the run for a long time trying to get
away from the cops. His own gang members had believed that he had drawn too much attention to
their gang the Black Disciples and eventually murdered him. The vignette There Was An Old Woman
is about how this woman named Rosa Vargas had lots of kids. Her kids did whatever they wanted,
Angel Vargas believed that he could fly and jumped of the roof and killed himself. The overall
message of Sandra Cisneros and Gregory Neri of these two stories was that minors need supervision
so they will not do things that can lead to horrible things happening.
Supervision is needed to make sure the minors don t do anything bad. In the vignette There was an
Old Woman it stated, But after a while you get tired of worrying about kids who aren t even yours.
Rosa Vargas kids did whatever they wanted and never listened to the neighbors, eventually the
neighbors gave up on trying to stop them from doing bad things. In Yummy, it reads that There were

Warren Court went too far in regulating the way police officials do their jobs. In my opinion Scorpio,
Dirty Harry s deadly adversary, engages in criminal behavior throughout the film that contributes
greatly in establishing and promoting this message. Scorpio s actions and statements in several scenes

The two court case rulings were made by the United States Supreme Court under chief justice Earl
Warren. The first being Escobedo v. Illinois 1964, which essentially gave suspects a Sixth Amendment
right to the assistance of counsel. The second being Miranda v. Arizona 1966, which held that
statements obtained through interrogation were valid only so long as it could be demonstrated that the
suspect had willingly waved his fifth amendment right not to incriminate his self. These Warren court
rulings, and Callahan s disobedience to modern law, combine to ensure that the evidence against
Scorpio is inadmissible and consequently he can go free. First, Callahan illegally searches the football
stadium because he didn t have a warrant. Second, he interrogates Scorpio without reading him his
Miranda rights. Lastly, he tortures a confession out of Scorpio. Thus, the case against Scorpio was
invalidated. Scorpio, a criminal, was protected by the very legal sanctions, which were set up to

What Is The Difference Between Donald Sterling And His...
My story is about Donald Sterling and his racists acts towards minors. He was fired because of his
raciest acts and the recording saying things about magic Johnson and all black people. This was not
his first legal offense against race crimes and I feel like because he got away with it many occasions
he felt it was okay to keep doing it. That was the first account of failure against him and the NBA. The
second account was the tape. This was a failure because for him to just be okay with saying the things
he said about people that supported his team. This was a great failure for any leader of any higher
status. The behavior traits that I felt Donald Sterling failed at most was leading by value. This is clear

Mobile Banking for the Unbanked
In many developing countries it s common for a person to have a mobile phone but not a bank
account. In fact, more than 1 billion people fit this description, and the number is only likely to
increase. To that end, many companies are considering how to give residents access to banking
services via their handsets. The GSM Association predicts that by 2012, nearly 300 million of the
previously unbanked will be using some form of mobile banking. The mistake a lot of us make is to
look at the folks at the base of the pyramid and assume that they must need the same types of services
we need. The Harvard Business School case study Mobile Banking for the Unbanked explores two
very different examples of mobile financial service models: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A subscription model doesn t appeal to the poor at all, Rangan says. They don t want to pay a fee for
something they might not use. Moreover, more than half of South Africa s population had no access to
a bank account. This was largely because half of the population lived below the poverty line, and
banks, understandably, were not eager to serve a moneyless customer base. Banks find it an
unprofitable proposition to serve people who make less than three dollars per day, Rangan says. Still,
WIZZIT s founders thought there was a noble and viable business model in bringing banking to the
poor, via a mobile banking platform that could be used on even the most primitive cell phone. They
succeeded in finding an engineer to develop the platform, but quickly ran into a major regulatory
roadblock. Per the South African government, only licensed banks were allowed to take deposits. The
cost of a license was the equivalent of $34 million a hefty fee for a startup and the South African
Reserve Bank was wary of issuing new permits. Hence, the WIZZIT execs began searching for an
established banking partner. Time and again the top tier banks turned

Causes of Genocide Essay
Genocide is an action that is not unique to any one set of specific circumstances. It knows no bounds
of time or location. From thousands or years ago to present day and on every civilized continent, the
eradication of entire groups of people has occurred. The current definition of genocide was established
by the United Nations in 1948: (a) Killing members of [a] group; (b) Causing serious bodily or mental
harm to members of the group; (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to
bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; (d) Imposing measures intended to prevent
births within the group; (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group with intent to

Perhaps one of the most relevant examples of genocide denial is in the United States history. It is
estimated that in 1500 there were some 12 million Native Americans living in North America, but by
1900 this number had been reduced to 237,000 (Lewy). Yet while mass murders of American Indians
were all too common during this time period, Ward Churchill, in his book A Little Matter of Genocide:
Holocaust and Denial in the Americas 1492 to the Present, explains discussion of these occurrences is
limited in early education and the media to only a few events such as the 1864 Sand Creek Massacre
and the 1890 Wounded Knee Massacre so they may be dismissed as anomalies (2). He also explains
that this denial is furthered in two more fashions. The first is the underestimation of the number of
Native Americans living in North American prior to European colonization because the deaths of
people who never existed need not be explained (2). The second is the image of the warlike and
aggressive American Indian, which permits the murders of such savages to be portrayed as defensive
and necessary when the true source of Native American aggression was more likely due to settlers
ceaselessly encroaching on their homelands (3). Churchill likens this scenario to a hypothetical

My Story Of The School Year Of 2010-2011
My story begins in the school year of 2010 2011. I was a fifth grader, eleven years of age, at Santa Fe
5/6 Center. As per requirements we had to take a music class, and I knew that I could not sing, so an
instrument it was. Most of that year I spent experimenting with wind and string instruments to find out
if I belonged in band or orchestra. I was never really interested in any of the wind instrument so I
atleast knew I was going to be in orchestra. The year ended with me being skeptical to if I should play
an instrument or not.
With the next school year approaching fast I had to make my decision. A few days before sixth grade
started, Santa Fe hosted a little music assembly for the students and their parents to come and enjoy
music and also to provide instruments for the students to try out and possibly buy. I remember walking
around a tad bit nervous looking for an instrument and that s when I heard someone start playing the
cello. I turned to look and saw a man, Mr. Stanley, who later I found out was my cello teacher, playing
the cello. He played so beautifully it inspired me. The warm, rich tone of the cello filled the room and
I remember almost everyone stopped what they were doing just to listen to him play. I think mother
saw the glint in my eyes when I first listened to the cello and she knew that was my choice. After Mr.
Stanley s little performance was done, I approached him and bombarded him with questions. In the

threadbare furniture, and ugly curtains and she wants to be envied, attractive in a house with large,
silent anterooms, with elegant valets and large drawing rooms draped in the most expensive silks with
fine end tables of inestimable value . These adjectives are enough to show Mathilde s unrealistic
awareness of her situation with innate pride, which is not expected to come true. This bibliography is

Differences Between Early China And Qing Dynasty
Early China and the Qing Dynasty are not too different from each other. Which is surprising,
considering they Early China is at the beginning of recorded history for China and the Qing Dynasty is
the last dynasty to rule. Although, gender equality can be considered the same for both societies, they
are actually different since the Qing Dynasty started to change during the end of its reign. Both Early
China and the Qing Dynasty went through major changes in history. Early China is the beginning of
the dynasties, as we know it, so a bunch of new items and product were founded during this period.

13. XYZ Affair
President John Adams had sent several delegates, one of them being John Martial, to France to help
sort out the issues between France and the US, such as the United States not honoring the Franco
American Treaty, formed back during the American Revolution, when France had its revolution, by
meeting with minister Talleyrand of France. Three of Talleyrand s men met with the delegates and told
them Talleyrand refused to meet unless a large amount of money was payed. The delegates returned
home and informed President Adams, who was outraged. The name of the Affair comes from the
substituting of the three French men s names with X, Y, and Z in a Congress report.
This event was significant to the United States during this time because, instead of helping our
relations with France, like the US had hoped for after they accused us of allying with the British when
Jay s Treaty was formed, it only made things worse. The United States was enraged by France s
outrageous demands, and France was still angered by lack of promised US support during the French
Revolution.

An Intervention to Prevent Binge Drinking Among College Students
Binge drinking is defined by the Center for Disease Control (2017) as 5 or more alcoholic drinks for
males or 4 or more alcoholic drinks for females on the same occasion Our team believes that this
matter is something that we could address within our own community at the University of Hawaii at
Hilo. In this paper, we will provide supporting evidence that binge drinking is indeed a problem on
our college campus. Next, we will propose an intervention to help reduce incidence and provide
support for those individuals that are affected by binge drinking. We will then explore the rationale
behind our intervention and how it might work to benefit those afflicted. Finally, we will explore how
we can evaluate the success or failure of said intervention.

Stereotypes Of Stock Characters In Film And Modern Family
A stock character is a fictional character in literature, film, theatre or television that is based on a
stereotype that is familiar to many people. Stock characters rely heavily on cultural types, manner of
speech, and other characteristics. They are an important component of any play or story because it
provides relationships and interactions that people will recognize immediately. People can summarize
the characters role in the story in a sentence or less and people will know exactly what you are talking
about. They vary from widely known cultural types and mannerisms, and every culture has its own set
of stock characters. An example of a stock character is a Jewish Mother. She nags, is overprotective

The audience can be very entertained by The Soldier in Roman comedy because he is not bright and

women are in love with him. This character is very amusing to watch because he is so airheaded that
he could never actually be a real and respected soldier in an army.
The Slave in Roman comedy also plays a very large part in the humor aspect of the show. He may not
seem like a stock character in this present style of sitcoms, but back then the slave was a very popular
character. He is very smart, clever, always up to some scheme, and he is always plotting to be made
free. I find this very ironic because the slave should be the character who is dumb and stupid but
instead, he portrays himself as the one with the higher status rather than lower status because he
knows that he is smarter than the soldier and he always succeeds when he tricks the Soldier into doing

Although we believe limiting carbon omissions by 15 percent in the next five years will reduce our oil

Bipolar Disorder And Manic Depression
Bipolar Disorder, formally known as Manic Depression, is a mental disorder where an individual
suffers from abnormal mood swings, experiencing both highs and lows (Hockenbury others, 2015, pg.

their manic states they are not, these manic episodes are extreme and can be debilitating to not only
the individual but their family as well. Post mania state, these individuals will then fall into a severely

A Lexical Pragmatic Analysis of Proverbs in Femi...
This essay is a pragmatic reading of moral and socio political decadence in Femi Osofisan s Midnight
Hotel. It does this by analyzing ten out of twenty five proverbs deployed in the text. In analyzing the
proverbs, this essay observes that each has at least an ad hoc constituent which requires semantic
modulation to get at the meanings of the proverbs. This modulation is not arbitrary, but contextually
negotiated until the reader reaches his optimal relevance.
Wilson and Carston argue that metaphors are cases of ad hoc constructions (7), for instance, when a
speaker says, The boy is a lion . While a literary scholar would see this as metaphorical, Wilson and
Carston believe that the above sentence is a case of the use of an ad hoc ... Show more content on

One of such is with Ossie Onuorah Enekwe where he says that:
To get desperately close to the spectator, to each and every one I have trapped in the darkness or half
light, to penetrate very close and intimate, like a knife in the ribs. I want to make that spectator happy
but uncomfortable. I want to turn him open, guts and all, spice him, cook him in the filthy, stinking
broil of our history. I want him washed inside out, in the naked truth, and then I sew him back again a
different man. (18)
The playwright s closeness to a reader of Midnight Hotel is predicated on the contemporary subject
matters raised in the text. It is true the essence of the play is to effect a social change (as it is with most
literary works), but this change cannot occur if the reader finds it difficult to comprehend what the text
says. Thus this essay lends a hand in that direction, by working out an easy, systematic, pragmatic
format for understanding Osofisan s Midnight Hotel.
Commenting on the playwright s art, Awodiya submits that Osofisan is prolific and theatrically fertile
in creating flexible dramatic forms that have great stage adaptability (15). Awodiya further notes
Osofisan s penchant for invoking traditional African elements of music, dance, songs, mime and
improvisation (15). One of such is proverbs with which he attaches the African sense. Awodiya
acknowledges that

The Importance Of Gothicism In Jane Austen s Novel...
The class of the novel started just in the eighteenth century however since its exceptionally beginning
it grew quickly. Distinctive sorts of the class rose, for instance a novel of conduct, a household novel
or a Gothic novel. The Gothic novel is a well unmistakable sort among the others and has a critical
effect on the improvement of the entire type of the novel. In opposition to Neoclassicism which
adulated realism, Gothicism did not trail the principles of etiquette, did not matter instructive
highlights but rather put highlight on secret, ponder and sublimity. Along these lines, Gothic fiction
increased tremendous prevalence among the users. In any case, after numerous books of the kind
being distributed, they ended up being regular too every one of the stories connected a similar
arrangement of highlights for the setting, plot and characters. That brought a rush of feedback of the
Gothic novel and started the act of satirizing its traditions. One of the best parodists of Gothic moved
toward becoming Jane Austen with her novel Northanger Abbey. This exposition exhibits the essential
highlights of Gothic fiction and Jane Austen s techniques for mocking them.

Parents are important for the right upbringing of a child, their support and their care shape the child in what it would be in the future; the way parents behave and talk, their temperament also has an influence in the upbringing due to the fact that children copy what their parents do most of the times and a bad influence in going to take them on the wrong path when they grown up. David discovers the error of his assumptions, finding he has misread the nature of the bonds between the boat s inhabitants: I was very much surprised that Mr. Peggotty was not Ham s father, and began to wonder whether I was mistaken about his relationship to anybody else there (38) (Furneaux, Paternal passions: queer boats and hands on foster fathering in mid Victorian fiction). For David and probably Victorians too, adoption and single parenting was kind of taboo topic but Dickens wanted to show a revolutionary writing topic and didn t care what his critics will say. David was surprise since he never heard nor nobody ever explained to him about adoption and Dickens tries to show readers that this kind of relationship can exist in the society and should be view with good ... • 5. The Cost Of A Rent A Room Task 1. James collects £150 state pension per week, which means he receives £7,800 of state pension annually; pension from his employer is £25,000 per year. These pensions are taxable and treated as non saving incomes (Lymer and Oats, 2014). James and his wife Jess let 40% of their house to a tenant, who pays £15,000 rent annually and there are £2,000 allowable expenses. In this case the allowable expense is only 60% out of £2000 and Wear and Tear is 10% of rental income. As James and Jess share property income the total income is halved and James receives £6,150 (Lymer and Oats, 2014). Another way of calculation is a rent a room scheme. According to all the workings, the taxable income is calculated and provided in a table below. James and Jess bought a house in 1991 and lived there since purchasing time, this means that the house is there only and main residence, therefore they will get qualified only with 60% relief of PPR, as have let 40% of their house as a residential accommodation. Moreover, they can claim letting relief either of the gain accruing during the letting period, £40,000 or total gain which is exempt under the PPR requirements. What is more as husband and wife they have £22,000 CGT relief (split of £11,000 each). Finally Jess will be charged at 18% of CGT as she only has rental income, James s income is lower than £31,865 and he will be taxed at 18% as well (Lymer and Oats,2014). Task 2. As Fred s business is expanding, he can employ one full time employee with an annual salary of £25,000. Fred has to pay National insurance contribution under the Class 1 rules, as both employer and employees pay contributions in such businesses (Lymer and Oats, 2014). According to Class 1, Fred will pay NI of £2,337.72((£480.77 £155) x 13.8% x 52weeks), contribution rate is 13.8% because employee s weekly income is higher than £155, according to 2105/16 tax rates (GOV.UK, ... • 6. The Effects Of Drilling On Offshore Drilling To spark a drastic change, typically something drastic and eye opening needs to occur. Looking back in recent United States history, there have been many accidents, attacks, and natural disasters that have sparked conversation as well as legislation for change. The BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, which began on April 20, 2010 and raged on for months caused tremendous devastation and pollution to the ecosystem. Discussion about offshore oil drilling and regulations was inevitable after the spill. In President Obama s Oval Office speech after the spill, he makes a claim that offshore drilling must be more strictly regulated, and a shift towards clean, renewable energy must be made. In light of this disaster this is a controversial claim due to the United States current reliance on offshore drilling and the scandalously close relationship between oil companies and the agency that regulates them. Although Americans benefit from offshore drilling with cheaper oil prices and affordable energy, and companies benefit from loose regulations with high profitability, ecosystems and natives suffering through the spill would argue that these benefits do not outweigh the cost. When President Obama claims that strict regulation on oil drilling and a shift toward renewable energy through policy implementation, he threatens a powerhouse market that is a major player in the economy. He also creates a divide in schools of thought over the reach government through regulation. This paper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Margaret was a good scholar and graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Chemistry. She married Denis thatcher, who was a wealthy businessman. The recessions brought about severe unemployment which has left lasting negative impacts on Britain. Many industries went bankrupt and workers lost their jobs. Industrial production fell sharply. The working class suffered the most during the recession. There were nearly 3.3 million people unemployed in 1984 as compared to 1.5 million when Thatcher first came to power in 1979. This divided the society into two distinct groups the rich and the poor. No other developed state, with the exception of New Zealand suffered such a brutal widening of inequality. The Gini coefficient is a measure of inequality in a society. A score of one would be a completely unequal society; zero would be completely equal. Britain s Gini core escalated from 0.253 to 0.339 during the time of Thatcherism. The effects were still felt years later when Thatcher resigned in 1990 and it was found that 28% of children were still living below the poverty line. Pensioners were the worst hit with the number living below the poverty line increasing drastically from 13% to 40%. It was also characteristic of a developed nation to have a high life expectancy going down after the recessions. Unemployment is very stressful and damaged, not only the morale of the people, but also affected their health. Medical care was unaffordable resulting in early deaths. After Thatcher resigned, statistics revealed that life expectancy increased again. People were happier, less stressed and, therefore, healthier. This merely emphasises the impact that Thatcherism had on the British people. Crime increased during the Thatcher regime as a direct consequence of unemployment and poverty. With the recession also came the dissolving of many British families. Divorce rates increased due to financial strain. Thatcher had no pity for the poor. • 8. Cheek Cells Lab Report Analysis In the experiment, the scientist observed a series of cells, the first one being cheek cells. After swabbing the inside of their cheeks and preparing a slide, the scientists were able to see the cytoplasm, nucleus and cell membrane of this undyed cell. While observing these cells under 400X, they noticed that the cheek cells varied in shape, some being almost perfectly spherical, while others resembled an oval figure. Additionally, these cells appeared to be grouped up and messily stacked on top of one another. The team then observed the same cheek cells, but dyed them, allowing them to more clearly see the different organelles. They noticed that the nucleus look more defined and the pigmented cell membranes made it easier to distinguish the different cells from one another. Moreover, the biologists could see specs within each of the cell s cytoplasm, probably resembling its various organelles. After drawing what they observed through the compound light microscope, the scientists moved onto the dyed and undyed onion cells. Under 400x, the scientists discovered ... • 9. Itp Research Paper What is ITP? ITP stands for Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura which is a scientific way of saying the body has an abnormally low number of platelets. These platelets are cells in the blood that help blood clot. When these cells are present in low numbers excessive bleeding and bruising often occur. A common symptom is red blotches on the skin that do not blanch. These spots are caused by bleeding underneath the skin. ITP affects both adults and children. In children, it is normally a temporary condition. In adults, the condition is often chronic. A diagnosis of ITP is a process of exclusion as similar symptoms appear in a range of other conditions including HIV and lupus. Once these conditions are ruled out, treatment begins. The first step to any sort of treatment is to speak with a physician. Only a doctor is able to diagnose ITP and specialists often work for years or decades to treat conditions such as ITP. • 10. Themes of Hopelessness in Herman Melville’s Bartleby the... We can never be one hundred percent certain of the validity of our literary analyses. This is especially the case with Herman Melville s Bartleby the Scrivener . Critics have been trying for decades to make sense of the text and most will describe it as inscrutable . I don t claim to know better than the critics, but instead offer my own interpretation of the work. Based on my observations and analysis, Melville s use of many elements in his story first and foremost the character of Bartleby, but also the dead letters, the many walls of Wall Street, and the state of Wall Street itself works well to develop a sense of hopelessness, whether intentional or not, in the story as well as the narrator and consequently the reader. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He [the lawyer] refers to Turkey as a most valuable person to me (p. 22) and to Nippers as a very useful man to me (p. 25). Even Ginger Nut, the office boy, is useful in that his duty as cake and apple purveyor (p. 27) pacifies Turkey and Nippers and thus keeps them working. In other words, the lawyer considers his employees useful insofar as he can exploit them and make money from their labor. (Wilson) Bartleby, however, who prefers not to do any work after a short period of working in the office, greatly discourages the lawyer because he does not prove useful in any way. As a further character development, Melville encourages the reader to consider Bartleby himself as a type of dead letter (Weinstock). Bartleby doesn t serve the purpose he intended to when he refuses to do work, in the same way the dead letters (1111) that Bartleby used to work with did not serve the function they were intended for. It is important to note that in a dead letter office, the letters are undeliverable and so they have their content destroyed. Bartleby would prefer not to do anything and thus wasted away to death a drawn out process of content destruction. In this case the content refers to Bartleby s soul (1098) and hope, and eventually, self. We can expect that the lawyer s prolonged exposure to an attitude such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the mid 15th century to the early 18th century almost half of Europe s total population could be considered poor and destitute. The attitudes of the clergy and the attitudes of the socially elite toward these people varied from pity to disgust, and their proposed solution to these problems differed. Some suggested helping all of the poor by giving them alms, some warned others to be careful of whom the money was given to and some people believed that being poor was a voluntary decision and if they wanted to get out of that situation, they do so without the help of others. Yet while mass murders of American Indians were all too common during this time period, Ward Churchill, in his book A Little Matter of Genocide: Holocaust and Denial in the Americas 1492 to the Present, explains discussion of these occurrences is limited in early education and the media to only a few events such as the 1864 Sand Creek Massacre and the 1890 Wounded Knee Massacre so they may be dismissed as anomalies (2). He also explains that this denial is furthered in two more fashions. The first is the underestimation of the number of Native Americans living in North American prior to European colonization because the deaths of people who never existed need not be explained (2). The second is the image of the warlike and aggressive American Indian, which permits the murders of such savages to be portrayed as defensive and necessary when the true source of Native American aggression was more likely due to settlers ceaselessly encroaching on their homelands (3). Three of Talleyrand s men met with the delegates and told them Talleyrand refused to meet unless a large amount of money was payed. The delegates returned home and informed President Adams, who was outraged. The name of the Affair comes from the substituting of the three French men s names with X, Y, and Z in a Congress report. This event was significant to the United States during this time because, instead of helping our relations with France, like the US had hoped for after they accused us of allying with the British when Jay s Treaty was formed, it only made things worse. The United States was enraged by France s outrageous demands, and France was still angered by lack of promised US support during the French Revolution. 14. The audience can be very entertained by The Soldier in Roman comedy because he is not bright and easily misled by flattery, which makes his character pretty hilarious to watch. He is always chasing after women, even if they are married, he thinks he is extremely handsome, and believes that all of the women are in love with him. This character is very amusing to watch because he is so airheaded that he could never actually be a real and respected soldier in an army. The Slave in Roman comedy also plays a very large part in the humor aspect of the show. He may not seem like a stock character in this present style of sitcoms, but back then the slave was a very popular character. He is very smart, clever, always up to some scheme, and he is always plotting to be made free. I find this very ironic because the slave should be the character who is dumb and stupid but instead, he portrays himself as the one with the higher status rather than lower status because he knows that he is smarter than the soldier and he always succeeds when he tricks the Soldier into doing ... • 36. A Lexical Pragmatic Analysis of Proverbs in Femi... This essay is a pragmatic reading of moral and socio political decadence in Femi Osofisan s Midnight Hotel. It does this by analyzing ten out of twenty five proverbs deployed in the text. In analyzing the proverbs, this essay observes that each has at least an ad hoc constituent which requires semantic modulation to get at the meanings of the proverbs. This modulation is not arbitrary, but contextually negotiated until the reader reaches his optimal relevance. Wilson and Carston argue that metaphors are cases of ad hoc constructions (7), for instance, when a speaker says, The boy is a lion . I want him washed inside out, in the naked truth, and then I sew him back again a different man. (18) The playwright s closeness to a reader of Midnight Hotel is predicated on the contemporary subject matters raised in the text. It is true the essence of the play is to effect a social change (as it is with most literary works), but this change cannot occur if the reader finds it difficult to comprehend what the text says. Thus this essay lends a hand in that direction, by working out an easy, systematic, pragmatic format for understanding Osofisan s Midnight Hotel. Commenting on the playwright s art, Awodiya submits that Osofisan is prolific and theatrically fertile in creating flexible dramatic forms that have great stage adaptability (15).
