Rent Simulation
After World War I, the demand for rental housing in New York City threatened to drive rents
higher. In order to keep rents from rising to their equilibrium levels, city officials imposed rent
ceilings. Over time, the implementation of rent ceilings caused a market shortage to occur
because the demand for rent controlled units exceeded the supply. According to the law of
supply and demand when the price decreases below the equilibrium point there is a move to the
right on the demand curve. Conversely, the decrease in price causes a move to the left on the
supply curve. Customers demand more of an item, in this case, housing, when the price is lower;
however, the suppliers are willing to supply less at the new lower price. This shift in New... Show

Someone renting in an upscale section of Manhattan might pay only $1,000 a month for a three
bedroom rent regulated apartment, yet the same apartment could garner upwards of $12,000 per
month in the free market (Mceachern, 2014). Since tenants in rent controlled apartments are
allowed to stay in their unit until they die and are permitted to leave their apartment to their heirs,
the incentive for renters to remain indefinitely in a rent controlled apartment is very high. Renters
financially benefit by keeping a rent controlled apartment, even in situations where the apartment
may no longer meet their needs. On the other hand, the landlord is certainly the loser in the rent
controlled situation and has an equally high financial incentive to try to get renters out of rent
controlled apartments. Landlords and building owners are not the only ones that fail to benefit in a
rent control scenario. Other renters that are lower income and unable to secure a rent controlled
apartment because the current renters of a rent controlled apartment hold onto them long term
(even when the have the income to afford the free market) also lose out in a rent control situation.
The actual renters of the rent controlled apartments, while they benefit financially, sometimes lose
out as well because the landlord does not keep up the quality of the apartment. As

Sandra Cisneros s Hope
Hope is something everyone needs to have to achieve their dreams and it often shows through
any dark time, but on rare occasions, it isn t always able to get there. Of Mice and Men by John
Steinbeck is a novella about two men living through hard times during the great depression. One
of these characters had extreme hope for the future and he even made other characters start to
feel hopeful like he had but it is diminished in everyone over time. In Only Daughter Sandra
Cisneros tells the story of how her hope led her to write her books and led her father to be as
proud of her as she had always wanted. In both Of Mice And Men and Only Daughter character s
hopefulness had a tremendous effect on other characters, the reader, and the theme. Hopefulness is

She wrote about how through hope and determination, she eventually got to where she wanted
to be with her father s support. To begin, she was lonely and felt isolated because of her father
not showing support for her. She had hope for her future because she kept trying to achieve the
goal she wanted to reach. This is first seen when she writes, when I was in fifth grade and shared
my plans for college with him, I was sure he understood. I remember my father saying Que
Bueno, mi ja, that s good. That meant a lot to me, especially considering my brothers thought the
idea hilarious. What I didn t realize was that my father thought that college was good for girls
for finding a husband (Cisneros 4). Cisneros wanted to go to college to become a writer and a
teacher but her father didn t see that future for her. In reality, he saw her opportunity to go
through college as a perfect way to get husband. This lack of belief in her never deterred her from
working to achieve her dreams and she never let her dreams be for nothing. The impact on her
father is shown when she changed her father s opinion on her dream so he now saw

1. John Smith tax issues:
a. How is the $300,000 treated for purposes of federal tax income?
In order to determining how the $300,000 fee was received as Federal income on the part Mrs.
John Smith, we first have to determine the requirements for income. According to Code Sec.
61(a)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) gross income includes all income from whatever
source derived, that is including the following items: compensation for services, including fees,
commission, fringe benefits and similar items (Intuit TaxAlmanac, 2006). In John s case, income
received from fees that were paid by his client from rendered services will meet that requirement of
gross income. Under Section ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John currently leases the property for $3,500 per month for total of $42,000 annual payments.
Payment under a lease is deductible (Smith, Harmelink, amp; Hasselback, 2013). Rent is any
amount you pay for the use of the property you do not own (IRS.Gov, 2011). John can deduct
rent as a business expense only if the rent for the property is used solely for business. If John
decides to purchase the building he will indeed benefit from the purchase versus leasing the
property. John will benefit from Code Sec. 179, which allows him as a taxpayer to immediately
expense a portion of the cost of newly acquired depreciable property rather than depreciation it over
multiple years (Smith, Harmelink, amp; Hasselback, 2013). A taxpayer may elect to treat the
cost of section 179 properties as an expense, which is chargeable to capital account (Cornell
University Law School, 2013). They are limitations as to dollar amount that need to be taken into
account under Section 179. If taxpayer places more than $2,000,000 worth of section 179
properties into service during a single taxable year, than under section 179 deductions is reduced,
dollar for dollar, by the amount exceeding $2,000,000 threshold (Cornell University Law School,
2013). This threshold is reduced to $560,000 for years beginning in 2012, and $200,000 thereafter
(Cornell University Law School, 2013). In addition for the purpose of

Hoovers Relief Efforts Essay
Hoovers Relief Efforts In the early years of the Great Depression, before 1932, President Herbert
Hoover was faced with a terrible problem. The entire country, and to a large degree the entire
world, was in the midst of one of the worst economic recessions in current history. All around the
country, people were out of work, down on their luck, and starving. One in every six American
males was unemployed, and the future outlook was not much better.
In 1930, drought struck Arkansas, worsening the already terrible conditions under which the poor
sharecroppers and landowners lived in. The Depression had already been had on these farmers, who
had seen the market value of their produce dwindle significantly. As conditions worsened,... Show

The local Red Cross leader met them outside, and told them that if they would wait a half hour he
would get them what they needed. He called his bosses in Little Rock, explained the situation to
them, and was granted permission to release the food to them. Thus, what could have been a
major tragedy was avoided, and the farmers and their families were fed. The national media,
however, portrayed it as a mob of starving angry farmers robbing and looting the town of England.
The negative portrayal of the scene led an already worn and frightened public to worry about unrest
and revolution.
The conditions were hardly better in the large cities. In Detroit, were the entire economy centered
on the auto manufacturing facilities of the Ford Motor Company, conditions were especially bad.
Mayor Murphy tried to give as many people welfare as he could, but soon the number of people
needing help forced the program, and the city with it, into desperate financial straights, but because
of Hoovers policies, there was no federal money to help them. The members of the communist
party, never numbering more than 2000, led thousands of workers in protests on Detroit streets.
One of these protest led the workers to the outskirts of Detroit, and the grounds of the Ford plant.
They were met there by the Detroit police and the armed plant guards, who warned them that they

19 September 2015
An Atrocity of a Deal: The P5+1 Agreement with Iran The P5+1 Agreement, an agreement struck
between Iran, China, Russia, France, United Kingdom, United States, Germany, and the European
Union. But, why, and what does this deal place on Iran, that can limit their nuclear abilities, as
displayed in the past. The deal brings forth rather easy sanctions relief for Iran, limits uranium
enrichment to a certain extent where Iran can still produce nuclear weaponry, and reduces the
enriched uranium stockpile that can be sold for more natural uranium which can be used to produce
more enriched uranium with its ability to still develop advanced centrifuges. The issues lies within
the broad and quite loosely held terms of this agreement. Knowing the terms of this agreement, the
expected result of these provisions, this deal will actually shorten the time to an Iranian nuclear
bomb and allow Iran to produce more nuclear bombs than it currently can construct using enriched
uranium and plutonium fuel stated Fred Fleitz from Fox News. The agreement puts the citizens of
many countries at high risk, and the evidence of this is incontrovertible, as Iran has access to
things that were previously denied of access. The question to ask is, should the senate support this
agreement? Sanction relief is the last thing Iran needs if the United States and the rest of the
countries are going to limit the proliferation of

American Dream Motivation
The American Dream
The American Dream is a dream to live in a place where someone s rights and freedoms can not be
taken away from them and where they can achieve their goals without anyone stopping them no
matter what their background is. People achieved the American dream through motivation and hard
work. Although as time passed, they became too lazy to actually work for it. Somewhere along the
way, people began to interpret the American dreamas a dream to live in wealth. Because of this, it
has made them think that happiness is defined by how much money they have. They also started to
find ways to get rich quick without working for it. Many people question whether or not the
American dream is attainable or too far fetched. The American... Show more content on

The Fifth Amendment For Theu.s. Constitution Essay
The sixth amendment to the U.S constitution guarantees a defendant in a criminal prosecution the
right to a speedy, public, and impartial trial by jury. Once it has determined that the trial will be
by jury, the next step in the criminal proceeding is the selection of the jurors. During this process
possible jurors receive a summons in the mall ordering them to appear in court at a specified time
and date the people who are summoned comprise the venire (the prospective jurors for cases). Voir
direLatin term meaning to speak the truth, this is an examination conducted by the courts or by the
attorneys of a potential juror or witness to determine if they would be proficient or qualified for
services. Jurors questionnaires reveals information disqualifying them from juryservice is only the
first step in the jury selectionprocess. Typical questions relate to whether prospective jurors know
the defendant, the attorneys, or any of the witnesses, whether they have read or heard about the
case in the media, and whether they have racial, nationality, or gender biases. Effective voir dire is
getting the prospective jurors to tell the court or attorneys what they need to know( Ferdico, J 2005).
During the voir dire process, the way jurors are removed is part logic and part legal strategy. The
judge determines that a potential juror is not likely to be fair to both sides in the case, than the
juror will be excused for cause. There are two possible ways prospective jurors may be

The Desolate City Annotations
After the repetition of the dream passage beginning in bar sixty, another interlude starts in bar sixty
eight that both transitions from the previous mood and prepares for the next. Continuity from the
previous section is seen with the arpeggiation and statements of a motive from the opening vocal
line. The interlude also helps to prepare for a more somber mood with the appearance of A@
minor, the parallel minor. The vocal line, in which the speaker outrightly admits doubt regarding the
ideal, is marked recitative, and its chordal accompaniment is appropriately sparse. The shift to this
section is quick, with an applied dominant seventh chordto B@ minor in bars seventy four and
seventy five. In a moment of truth, all attention is appropriately... Show more content on

Plato Homosexual Love Essay
deal with concepts of homosexual love. Sappho, the only ancient Greek female author whose
work survived, talks from the female point of observation, whereas Plato s work concentrates on
the idea of love among males. Though both of their perspectives are similar in ways such as their
ideas of physical attraction and desire, Platos work creates a better understanding of the nature of
love then Sappho s ideas. This understanding will be shown with three arguments and counter
arguments in order to demonstrate the dominance of Plato over Sappho. It will than be concluded
with an overview of the main idea and a recap of the three arguments made for Plato.
In the symposium, Pausanias (Greek geographer) conveys the second part which talks about a few
of the societal standards representing gay (homoerotic) relationships. The way that a companion
(an older man) and his lover ( a younger man) may act towards each other is largely based on
society s ethical code. It is shown that the tradition of this relationship is pursuer to the pursued; the
older man takes the initiative in the relationship and is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plato s work can be summarized by that the goal is essentially intellectual satisfaction, while
Sappho s objectives are directly linked with physical beauty and desire for physical attraction. Plato
s work provides a better understanding of love because the homoerotic relationship between an
older man and younger man creates positivity because it expands the virtue in the older man and the
wisdom in the younger man. Secondly, Pausanias shows the moral aspects are important within
homoerotic love because they are a guide to the right and wrong ways to satisfy desire. Lastly,
when you find you re other half, in turn you are finding yourself which is an amazing achievement.
Therefore, Plato s Symposium best explains the nature of

Percent Copper In Brass
Percent Copper in Brass
I. Introduction Have you ever been to any orchestra show or home improvement store before? If
you have, I m sure you have seen those fancy gold colored instruments or fancy door knobs or
faucets from the home improvement store. Have you ever wondered what they are made up of?
They are made up with the binary alloy called brass. Brass is a binary alloy made up of copper and
zinc with an additional amount of lead and tin(Brass in Focus, Angela Vessey,2004). Its density
is known as 8.3 to 8.7 g/cm3, and melting point is 1652 to 1724 В°F(Bell,2017). The
characteristics of the brass are varied on the amount of zinc and copper. The higher amount of
zinc seems to be cast easier while the lower amount of zinc can be cold worked easier; high
amounts of copper allow the brass to form a patina, coating of the thin oxide ... Show more content

In real world, we use Beer s law to find out the amount of copper or zinc in the brass. The most
accurate way to find the amount of copper is by drawing a calibration curve. When a calibration
curve is a straight line, we represent it using y=ОІ0+ОІ1x where y is the signal, Sstd, and x is the
analyte concentration, Cstd. The constants ОІ0 and ОІ1 are, respectively, the calibration curve s
expected y intercept and its expected slope. Because of uncertainty in our measurements, the best
we can do is to estimate values for ОІ0 and ОІ1, which we represent as b0 and b1. The goal of a
linear regression analysis is to determine the best estimates for b0 and b1. How we do this
depends on the uncertainty in our measurements(Harvey,2016). Meanwhile, all the brasses share
same characteristics of malleability and ductility. All the brasses are capable of being shaped and
can be drawn into a wire(Brass in focus, Angela Vessey,2004). In the real world, brass is used for
decoration, mechanical applications, as well as for musical instruments. Depends on the copper
percentage in brass,

Newton And Seurat Research Paper
The world that we live in is constantly innovating new ideas and methods to benefit the lives of
many. It is a fascinating opportunity to reflect on all the inventions that have been made throughout
each of our lifetimes. Two very important individuals that shaped the world we live in today is Sir
Isaac Newton and Georges Pierre Seurat.
Sir Isaac Newton was an English mathematician and physicist. There is a theory that Newton
discovered gravity when he saw a falling apple. Supposedly, when he was observing the apple he
was also thinking about the forces of nature. Newton realized that some force must be acting on
falling objects like apples because otherwise they would not start moving from rest. Newton also
realized that the moon would fly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, when you stand on something soft, the object caves in or is pushed down. This is the
reaction of one s force on the soft object, and the soft object s reaction to one standing on it.Seurat
painted the La Grande Jatte in three distinct stages. In the first stage, which was started in 1884,
Seurat mixed his paints from several individual pigments and was still using dull earth pigments
such as ochre or burnt sienna. In the second stage, during 1885 and 1886, Seurat dispensed with the
earth pigments and also limited the number of individual pigments in his paints. This change in
Seurat s palette was due to his application of the advanced color theories of his time. His intention
was to paint small dots or strokes of pure color that would then mix on the retina of the beholder to
achieve the desired color impression instead of the usual practice of mixing individual
pigments.Seurat s palette consisted of the usual pigments of his time such as cobalt blue, emerald
green and vermilion. Additionally, Seurat used then new pigment zinc yellow (zinc chromate),
predominantly for yellow highlights in the sunlit grass in the middle of the painting but also in
mixtures with orange and blue pigments. In the century and

Assessment And Management Of Leaky Wounds Following...
Assessment and management of leaky wounds following prosthetic joint replacements: a
retrospective study of prospective surveillance.
Authors: Sudhir Kannan, Jason Wilson, Grahame Taylor
University Hospitals Of Leicester.
Department of Musculoskeletal Surgery (Leicester General Hospital).
Introduction:
Persistent wound discharge following joint replacement is a known complication. Any
discharge from the wound for 4 days is defined as persistent leakage. Our literature
showed that the incidence of persistent discharge from the wound ranges up to
14.3%(Gaine et al), wound complication which require surgical treatment is
0.33%.(Galat et al).
Galat et al (2009) conducted a retrospective analysis of 17,784 primary total knees
replacements and report that the incidence of wound complications requiring surgical
treatment was 0.33%. Gaine et al reported that the incidence of superficial infection and
early deep infections following joint replacement were 14.3% and 1.1% respectively.
We could identify several classification systems for leaky wounds. However, these
classification systems have been devised by individual authors, which have not been
repeated between papers. To be specific there is no universally accepted classification
system.
The leaky wounds often lead to treatment dilemma, prolonged hospital stay and
delayed return to activity (Gaine et al). Besides, it causes stress to the patient and the
operating surgeon. There is also

Cyber criminals take full advantage of the anonymity and secrecy provided by The Onion Router

James Baldwin’s Critique of the Social Condition Essay
James Baldwin s Critique of the Social Condition James Baldwin was an African American
writer who, through his own personal experiences and life, addressed issues such as race,
sexuality, and the American identity. Notes of a Native Son is one of many essays that Baldwin
wrote during his lifetime. Within this essay, Baldwin talks about when his father died and the
events that revolved around it. His father s death occurs in the early 1940s, where oppression and
racism were still fairly prevalent in many cities across the nation. So amidst the events that revolve
around Baldwin s father s death, there are many riots and beatings taking place. This essay is

Immediately after the sentence, Baldwin describes the racial tension that exists between the
African Americans and the Whites. The people of Harlem as well as other cities are waiting for
that one injustice or catalyst that will push their tolerance over the top and lead them to
violently fight back through riot and protest. In one sentence, Baldwin manages to switch gears,
from one that is very private to a description of the general feeling felt among the people living in
Harlem. Baldwin, being a part of the community, takes his own feelings of waiting and applies it
to a general picture, where a lot of people were in fact waiting as well. Baldwin continues on and
says that blacks were being oppressed everywhere. ...Negro girls who set upon a white girl in the
subway because...she was stepping on their toes. Indeed she was, all over the nation (73). Not
only does this portray the ever growing tension felt among African Americans in a certain area, it
expresses the tension felt across the nation. African Americans everywhere were still continuously
looked down upon, causing agitation, which was the current social condition blacks and whites
faced. Soon after, the catalyst that ignites riots in Harlem, which was foreshadowed earlier in the
essay, takes place. The riots begins when a rumor spread claiming that a white police officer shot a
black soldier in the back, which wasn t the truth at all (81). The way

Dreams In Langston Hughes s A Raisin In The Sun
I hope you have been having a good day! I contacted you because I wanted to tell you about my
idea for the school play. I think that A Raisin in the Sun would be a great choice for our school
play for many reasons. The play is relevant because the American dream is a major theme in it,
important because it tackles racism, and entertaining because the internal family conflicts put the
viewer on edge.
The title of this play, A Raisin in the Sun, reveals relevance to The Covenant School. The name
of the play came from a poem by Langston Hughes about the outcome of dreams that do not
become reality. The selection relating to the title reads: What happens to a dream deferred?
/ Does it dry up / like a raisin in the sun? (Langston Hughes). This quote is relevant because it is
asking what happens when we put off our dreams. As a Covenant high school student, my peers
and I have dreams for the future, and many of them will not be achieved for many reasons, like
losing motivation or not having time. All the characters in A Raisin in the Sun have dreams,
such as Walter s dream to invest in a liquor store, or Beneatha s dream to become a doctor. Most
of these dreams in the play do not become a reality, similar to most dreams that high schoolers
have. So, seeing how other people deal with their dreams helps high schoolers in dealing with their
own dreams. For example, Walter s lack of patience ended up destroying his dream, because he
gave the money to someone that he should not

Child s Play
Child s Play is an odd film when you think about it. Who exactly was it made for? It certainly
couldn t have been made for kids, due to the vulgar language from Chucky, so unless you are
sneaking a peek at the film or if you are like me and were allowed to watch them at a young age,
the film must be for adults. Right? I don t know, cause doesn t you think most people wouldn t
have given the film a chance when they heard the plot? A story about a child s doll coming to life
and killing people? Most people would roll their eyes and scoff at the idea of seeing it.
However, that s today and not 1988 when the film came out. People must have been more
forgiving back then and thank god for that or else this film may not have received the appreciation

Reflections of a Soul: The Repercussions of Immorality in The Picture of Dorian Grey.
The Victorian Era was that of high moral intellect. During this time in history society looked upon
its self as having the right to judge anything and anyone who did not share this outlook as being
irrevocably reprehensible. The term Victorian morality has described any values that marry sexual
restraint, a low tolerance for crime and a strict social code of conduct. The Victorian era is
regarded by historians as a time of many contradictions, between the child labor, and prostitution,
yet high society had the constant outward appearance of dignity and restraint. In the novel The
Picture of Dorian Gray, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dorian Gray is a young and impressionable man who Lord Henry has taken a liking to and insists
on impressing upon him, his personal points of view; though he doesn t actually follow these rules
that he sets forth for Dorian. In the story Dorian falls in love with his youth, with the prospect of
losing his good looks, Dorian prays that his portrait be the one who ages so that he can keep his
beauty. Inevitably his prayer is answered and he goes about his life in pursuit of everything that
makes him happy regardless of how his actions affect others around him. The first of these is the
rejection of Sybil Vane who he fell in love with only because of her incredible beauty and her
exceptional acting skills. When he realizes that she can no longer act because the stage is no
longer her reality after she has fallen in love with Dorian, he rejects her; causing her to commit
suicide because her love for him was rejected. Dorian soon regrets his actions towards Sybil and
wants to reconcile with her only to find that she has ended her life, which he quickly gets over
attributing this as a great tragedy in which he had a large part of but didn t directly affect him.
At this point in the story is when Dorian starts to completely live his life for the pursuit of what
makes him feel good. He becomes obsessed with his portrait which ages and shows the ugliness
of his soul, while his own face reflects none of his reprehensible actions. Dorian hides his portrait
from the world so he is the only one who can witness the degradation of his soul. Eventually,
Dorian shows his portrait to Basil who is appalled by the site of it that he tries to get Dorian to
repent his sins. Dorian gets so mad at Basil for this that

Song Analysis Of ILl Be Missing You
I ll Be Missing You I ll Be Missing You is a rap ballad by Puff Daddy and Faith Evans featuring R B
group 112. This song was written in memory of renowned rap artist Christopher Wallace who
many may also know him as Biggie Smalls, Big papa, or The Notorious B.I.G. He was gunned
down and murdered in Los Angles in March of 1997. Almost immediately following his death, Puff
Daddy and Wallace s widowed wife, Faith Evans, team up to say their farewells. What started out
as a tribute to Wallace, ended up having a much bigger impact on the world than expected. On
March 9, 1997, Christopher Wallace s life was cut short at the age of twenty four in a drive by
shooting in Los Angles. Wallace was a close friend to Puff Daddy and husband to Faith Evans.
Distraught by Wallace s death, they wanted to perform a song in memory of him and also to
help gain closure for their selves. Within the past decade, Hip Hop has become increasingly
sought after both in popular music and in a genre of its own. When Puff Daddy released the
song it went above both the genres of rock and hip hop. The song, I ll Be Missing You , features
leading vocals from Wallace s widowed wife, Faith Evans, and background vocals from the famous
R B group, 112. Wallace and Evans did not write the song, I ll Be Missing You was actually written
by multiple people. He took the lyrics from a Brooklyn rapper Todd Sauce Money Gaither. Todd

Into The Woods By Stephen Sondheim
Into the Woods is a musical that was written by songwriter, Stephen Sondheim and director, James
Lapine. In this musical, several Disney stories are humorously re told by creatively combining
their stories into one interrelated adventure. This show opened on November 5, 1989 and ran 764
performances before this film of the musical was released in 1990. Into the Woodswas one of
Sondheim s most popular works in over 25 years. He is known to be the giant of musical theatre
during his time for such a creative style. Sondheim combines several fairytales to explain what
happens in an adult mind after happily ever after. Lapine and Sondheim harmonize their theatrical
talents of an adult fairy tale through portrayal of adventure, comedy, tragedy, and reality. Like all
Broadway performances and morality, Into the Woods forms pure quality and very little suffering
through establishment.
The fairy tale stories altered to meet the wisdom of an adult while incorporating relative childhood
stories. Danielle Ferland performed as Little Red Riding Hood, Ben Wright as Jack and the

The Belle Of New York Music Analysis
The late nineteenth century was a time of extraordinary theatrical bounty , and the initial stages
of nonsensical musical comedy. Shows that had loose plots concerning ordinary characters and
settings were prevalent. Most of which, would never experience American revival. (Musicals

comedy period. When people ponder the Gay 90 s , The Belle of New York is unquestionably a
show that comes to mind (Musicals101 Gay 90 s ). The Belle of New York is a musical comedy
in two acts, produced at the Casino Theater in New York, New York, on September 28th, 1897
(Ewen). Music was written by Gustave Kerker (Hischak 57), the book and lyrics by Hugh
Morton, and staging by George W. Lederer (Ewen). The musical was a modest success in the
United States, with only 56 performances during its run (Ewen). The show was evidently more
popular in Europe, becoming the first American musical to relish unqualified success in Great

Examples Of Causative Verbs
Causative verb is used when talking about something that someone else did for another person. It
means that the subject caused the action to happen, but didn t do it themselves. Maybe they paid,
or asked, or persuaded the other person to do it. Causative verbs express an action which is
caused to happen. In other words, when someone has something done for me him cause it to
happen. In other words, he does not actually do anything, but asks someone else to do it for him.
This is the sense of causative verbs. Intermediate to advanced level English learners should study

causative verbs, in no particular order: let, help, allow, have, require, allow, motivate, get, make,

The Concepts Of At Risk And Risk Of Young People s Lives...
Introduction
The concepts of at risk and risk are prominent in much of the literature on the sociology of youth.
The objective of this essay is to explore the positive and negative sides of focusing on risk in young
people s lives, and contend that although the concepts may help us to understand youth behaviours,
there is a need to be cautious in its implementation, as they carry a number of implicit assumptions.
Firstly, the approaches of at risk and risk taking are defined; in order to understand the different
ways the concepts are related to young people. These positive aspects include of the identification of
at risk youth for prevention measures and Stephen Lyng s edgework notion to comprehend
individuals voluntary risk taking . Secondly, discussions the usefulness of the concepts in
promoting our comprehension of young individuals behaviours are provided. Lastly, limitations of
the approaches are discussed to highlight the precautions needed when applying the concepts, as it
may lead to placing the blame on at risk youth, higher degree of scrutiny for young women than
their men and the normalised assumption on behalf of the risk taking notion.
The concepts of at risk and risk taking
There are two main concepts in the literatures of the sociology of youth, which linked risk and
young people together. The first concept is at risk and the term is often used to identify or describe
young people who, due to difficulties and disadvantaged situations,

Abraham Lincoln s Political Legacy
In chapter eight of the book Abraham Lincoln s political legacy is looked at. It goes in depth on
how during the Reconstruction, the republican party essentially ruined the South for twelve years
by instituting puppet governments that constantly raised taxes but provided very few public
benefits (7). This chapter talks also talks about how the republican partystole money from the raised
taxes. It seems like the main goal for the government at this point was to become an empire under
Abraham Lincolnand his business supporters. Lincoln s own Reconstruction ideas made a
mockery of democracy (227). He believed that at least 10 percent of the southern population
probably had Unionist sympathies, and he wanted representatives of that group to be put into
place by the Republican Party as the governors, mayors, and local public officials of the Southern
states after the war (227). Abraham Lincoln seems like he is trying to get all the power he can by
taking control of the south and making them do certain duties after the war is over. Lincoln was
trying to explore Central Government according to Richard Bensel (232).
Chapter nine describes Lincoln s economic legacy (7). Lincoln was trying to get easy votes from
the majority of the people and he knew he can do that with the northern states. The south on the
other hand did not agree with his policies and the American System he wanted to establish. The
only things that were standing in his way to have complete power was, the

Macbeth-Struggle for Power
It is indeed evident that the play, Macbeth is ultimately about the struggle for power. Power is
something many desire where people often change and become evil in their attempts to acquire it
and during this play the characters go through many changes which lead to disaster. The two main
characters mostly influenced by power in this Shakespearean play are Macbethand Lady Macbeth.
Macbeth is swayed by the prophecy made by the witches and also by Lady Macbeth who holds
great control over her husband. Through the analysis of characters and techniques it can be seen
that the desire of gaining power is evident in the play, Macbeth and that the characters stop at
nothing to achieve their goals.

The effect of ambition on Macbeth drives him into his contemptible acts in order to assume the
throne. He falls into a deep obsession which consumes his rational thought and he becomes very
evil and conniving. Is this the dagger which I see before me, the handle towards my hand? (ACT
II scene 1, line 33 34) This foreshadowing illustrates the subconscious thoughts of Macbeth and
how they materialize in front of him. He starts to visualize this dagger, predicting the malicious
tasks ahead which add the disturbing atmosphere. Macbeth chooses to abuse his power over
others and he becomes a hated king. This is caused not only by his cruelty but also the many
superstitions by people who think he killed Duncan which greatly depleted his power. Lady
Macbeth is quick to become evil in her ways as she is the mastermind behind the killing of
Duncan. He that s coming must be provided for, and you shall put this night s great business into
my dispatch (ACT I scene 6, lines 64 66). These heartless puns convey Lady Macbeth s merciless
intentions for the night s gathering. Being provided for often takes on the meaning of being fed but
in this case Lady Macbeth is referring to the death of King Duncan. Putting the night s business into
her dispatch appears to be something along the lines of carrying out the welcome of the guests and
of course she is indicating that Macbeth must follow her instruction in order to kill King Duncan.

research done in phase 1 and the interview results gathering in phase 2 is combined to formulate the
Opportunities, threats and uncertainties in Intra Asia container trade. Finally in the last section of

We had tailored our interview questions to gather professional opinions on the future outlook of
Intra Asia and Intra Asia container shipping and how they could impact and affect the shipowners
and operators (Appendix D).
Based on the interviews results (Appendix E) we had gathered, 80% of the respondents believe
that the current shipping market is now in its recovery from the longest downturn in three
decades in the shipping industry. It is largely due to the cause of overcapacity of ships in the
market that have depressed freight rates since the end of a shipping boom in 2008 (Shipping
Industry sees an end to five year downturn, 2014). The current recovery seem to be fragile in
Europe, though it is gaining traction in the US and UK, while emerging market is showing signs of
slow growth (Howard, 2014). All the main shipping segments remain heavy on the supply side,
causing great volatility in freight rates (Figure 10). Fortunately, the industry has now improved its

Rhetorical Analysis Of Mark Pagel s How Language...
Language can be seen as a communication barrier for some. Sometimes it may be difficult to talk

Challenges For Russia As A Super Power
CHALLENGES FOR RUSSIA TO BECOME A SUPER POWER
Introduction
1.A turning point was observed in international politics after the elimination of bipolar structure of
the world. Three major accidents happened at the end of cold war.
(a)The collapse of Soviet Union
(b)United States became the sole superpower
(c)Unipolarity in the international politics and imbalance of power
2.In recent years, Russia is involved in transformation of its economic and political policies As a
result of these positive policies Russia has once again on the way to emerge as rising power in
international politics. Following is a list of different potential challenges in the path of Russia to
become a super power again.
Challenges for Russia
3.The main challenges Russia is facing are:
4.Economic collapse. The developing Cold War 2.0 is expected to be a financial war and it is

The Cold War
With the end of the Cold War , the hypothesis of war between states declined and created
opportunities for peace and security. However, new types of conflicts, new challenges for
maintaining international security and new threats to peace emerged. The U.S. attacks on
September 11, 2001, marked a before and after in international relations, security concepts, and the
emergence of new threats. Governments have had the necessity to change and to design new
strategies to address these new threats. Furthermore, it has been necessary to modify the roles of
the Armed Forces.
The paper analyzes the role of the armed forces combating the new threats in Peru. First, it explains
the new threats that Peru is facing and the role of the armed forces combating them, its
employment, and legal issues that allow its participation. After that, this paper analyzes the
strengths and weaknesses of military participation. Finally, it recommends measures to strengthen
its participation.
The last white paper on national defense, April 2005, recognized the external and internal threats
that Peru is facing. As external threats, those generated if someone tries to apply security doctrines
incompatible with the rule of international law, threats that could emerge from the crisis regarding
scarcity of natural resources of strategic value, terrorism, drug trafficking, and international crime.

Alternative Dispute Resolution ( Adr )
Introduction
Since litigation particularly in High Court is both expensive, time consuming and also the
disadvantage of process being conducted to the public. Different parties with disputes have sought
after other means of dispute resolution which is generally known as alternative dispute resolution
(ADR).
Alternative dispute resolution is basically a way of solving civil dispute. It is the collective term
for the ways that parties settle civil disputes, with the assistance of an autonomous third party and
without the need of a court hearing which often leads to a mutual understanding between both
parties. In situations where mediation does not decide the case, a variety of other options which
includes conciliation, arbitration, adjudication and private judging which is a rare option of ADR.
Regardless of the historic opposition to ADR by many parties and their advocates, ADR has since
gained widespread acceptance among both the public and the legal profession in contemporary
years. In addition to this, courts now advice some parties to resort to ADR which includes
mediation before approving the parties cases to be tried in court. The first practical use of
alternative dispute resolution procedures began in the 1970s as a possible way for the disabling
court backlogs and also a way to resolve environmental and natural resource disputes. In 1985, the
Attorney General issued a directive identifying the need for ADR to drastically reduce the time and
cost of litigation.

Environmental Issues Of Human Rights Violations
At both the international and domestic levels, defining the environmental issues as human rights
violations in legal terms is a complex task. However, in the last decade, petitions and suit cases
against climate change issue were gradually filed. In 2006, the first suit case against the
Environmental Protection Agency was reached to the U.S Supreme Court (Aminzade, 2006). A
petition claimed that climate change through emissions and air pollutants caused harm to public
health and welfare. This case grabbed the attention of multiple environmental agencies; it also
gained support from political and human rightsactivists figures (Aminzade, 2006). Another petition
in 2004 by Inuit claimed that the U.S climate change policy violated the human rights to life, the
right to health, and movement (Goldberg Wagner, 2004). The Inuit petition describes how climate
change is affecting the Arctic environment on which the Inuit depend. It argued that climate change
violates the Inuit rights, including the right to life, health, and property. Based on the petition, the
Inuit s right to life is violated because critical food resources are threatened by climate change, and
unpredicted weather events can cause loss of life (Knox, 2009). The Inuit community also argued
that climate change interferes with their right to health by damaging fish on which they depend on
for nutrients, and by diminishing the quality of their drinking water and increasing the spread of
diseases (Knox, 2009).

Similarities Between Locke And Hobbes
Most people in the eighteenth century believed in Newtonian science. Newton established natural
laws of the universe which then led people to compile a general list of laws that were from human
behaviors. In the chapter, there were two theories that were discussed. One being liberty while the
other being political. The political contract based in natural law was influenced by two English
philosophers, Thomas Hobbesand John Locke. The two shared diverse views. For example, Hobbes
believed that human being are selfish, greedy, and warlike. On the other side of the spectrum,
Locke believed that human beings have the natural ability to justify the common good, and to be
equal. The two philosophers believed that the government should be based

Radish Essay
Abstract: The objective throughout this radish report is to determine the growth affects of using
Osmocote fertilizer compared to not using fertilizer on the growth of Radishes, focusing on the
radish root size, root weight, leaf area, and the SPAD. For growing Radishes with and without
fertilizer, you need six four inch starter pots filled lightly with soil, then determine which pots will
be the control, and which will be the test group. The easiest way to keep track of these two groups
is by labeling them, using tags to identifying the date, name of plant, and whether it is your control
or test. Next, gather Radish seeds and begin planting them four per pot about a half inch under the
soli and then cover lightly, always remember to water your seeds after planting them to begin...

The Detrimental Effects of Concussions
In recent years concussions have become more and more of a topic due to their effects on the
people who receives them. Concussions can cause a multitude of problems for a person later in
their life whether they suffered from a major concussion or just a minor concussion. These
problems can occur if a person ended up with multiple concussions over a lifetime or if they only
have had one single concussion The problems a person can encounter are all somewhat connected
but very diverse at the same time. Most of the problems a person will encounter will be due to a
change in that person s brainbut they can range from simple memory problems to suicidal problems.
The problem with concussions are that not everybody takes them serious enough. Some people
like football players will just blow it off. After taking a big hit and barely being able to get to the
sidelines they will be right back in the game on the next possession. Others like coaches might not
take a player s concussion serious because they know without that player they might not be able to
win thus putting the players long term health into effect. Concussions are very devastating and
cause many people future problems no matter what some doctors say.
The brain is an organ that is essential to everything people do. Whether it is remembering
something or just talking to someone the brain is in charge of it. So when a person takes a blow
to the head or body the brain shakes inside of the skull and they can have a

Alexander Mosaic
Discussion of Badian Alexander Mosaic In the section A Note on the Alexander Mosaic Ernst
Badian attempts to give his own interpretation of the Alexander Mosaic. Badian first gives Goethe
s explanation of the mosaic. Goethe believes that Alexander appears as a conqueror while Darius
is in horror. Badian, in this paper, attempts to show that Darius is in the prominent position and
Alexander does not appear a conqueror or a hero. Badian starts his argument by discussing the
similarities of a realistic action painting, like this Mosaic, and a snapshot. This means that the artist
is focusing on one moment in time, and chooses what he wants to show. Badian then start to talk
about the mosaic. He shows how the movement is from right to left, or... Show more content on

Darius is taller than everyone else and learns forward towards the enemy. The horror on his face
is from his seeing the sacrifice his noble made for him. Alexander, however, cannot seem to be
able to control his horse and his helmet has fallen off. This makes him appear as unheroic. The
tree in the mosaic is another piece of Baldin s argument. In order for Darius to use his cavalry,
Darius cleared the ground of the battlefield. This means the tree in the composition was obvious
added by the artists and therefore must have a meaning. One interpretation Baldin gives is that
the tree signifies the destruction of Alexander s wars. Badian ends by discussing the artist. He
identifies the commissioner as Cassander, a King of Macadoia from 305 297 BC, and who
Alexander treated poorly. Badian believes this poor treatment caused Cassander to have a bias
while commissioning the mosaic. Therefore, he wanted a piece that did not glorify Alexander, even
if he won every war against the persians. Finally, this explains why the mosaic show a time when
the Persians are dominating the action and while Alexander looks unheroic, even though Alexander
wins in the

Over Concentration Of Services Essay
This study identifies four strands of thought that outline the factors which can lead to the over
concentration of services; traditional trade theory, new trade theory, new economic geography
theory and the interplay between globalisation and competition. It is from this four factors in which
the negative effects of the over concentration of services are created. These negative effects will be
discussed and analysed in a bid to understand what can done to reduce them. Polycentricity and
territorial cohesion policy, and the measures associated with their implications, are identified as the
tools for reducing the negative effects of over concentration. The study also questions the extent of
success of these tools. Europeis viewed as the best platform to comprehend the relevant concepts
and thus will provide the context in which to carry out the study.
Traditional trade theory explains the over concentration of services through variations in labour
skills and other contributions to production (Heckscher 1919; Ohlin 1933), or in productivity
(Ricardo 1917). These differences establish comparative advantages (Ricardo 1917) between cities,
regions and countries. Thus, trade allows the concentration of services to grow and shrink in
reaction to these advantages.
In reality, cities, regions and countries may have different production arrangements but similar
production technologies (Krugman 1991a). Post Fordist countries predominantly trade goods of a
similar product type, i.e.

The Rise of a Mash-up Culture Essay
A great deal has been said about the move from physical media to a ubiquitous, digital culture.
Some decry the downfall of the vinyl record, falling compact disc sales, the cheapening and
degrading of an art form. I ll try to stay away from unverifiable judgements about the direction
modern culture is moving in. More interesting is the way musical creation is changing as a result of
new technologies, whether we like it or not. What comes to mind is hyperrealitywhat Jean
Baudrillardcalled the generation by models of a real without origin or reality (166). Digital
representations, originally intended to recreate the original sound waves of the music, are losing
their point of origin and becoming musical works on their own.... Show more content on

Its pointless to look for the original blueprint of a digital representation, because it s independent of
the hardware it s stored in, and meaningful only in the information it encodes. Hyperreality results
from a loss of distinction between the representations and the things they re intended to represent.
In our culture, the separation between a song and the digital file of a song is becoming trivial.
Computers allow information to be torn free of its original context, and reinterpreted upon retrieval.
Representation engines are the ideal enablers of hyperreality, giving almost limitless power to
reorder simulacra upon simulacra.
The internet takes the representational capacities of computers, and spreads them over a vast
symbolic network. Anyone with an internet connection instantly gains manipulative control over a
whole world of digital abstractions. These have the unique property of not being tied down to any
specific physical origin. It follows that they re infinitely recreatable, and intimately tied to their user
defined context. This decontextualization began, to a lesser extent, with the advent of audio
cassettes, allowing the creation of mix tapes. A mix tape lets the listener take small parts (usually
whole songs) from different physical source material (records), and combine them into a new
whole, consisting of copied parts. This process, known as dubbing, creates an experience that is, at
least in part, distinct from each

The Battle Of Team Desobry At The Town Of Noville
INTRODUCTION
This mission command analysis evaluates the battle of Team Desobry at the town of Noville,
Belgium. These events took place 18 19 December 1944, and later impacted the battle fought at
Bastogne during World War II. It is the goal of this review to discuss and analyze three mission
command principles displayed during this battle: Create shared understanding, exercise disciplined
initiative, and the acceptance of prudent risk. One of the main characters that took part in this story
was the 20th Armored Infantry Battalion, 10th Armored Division. The commanding officer of this
element was Major William R. Desobry. During the events of World War II, the German forces
were trying to gain control of the Ardennes to cut off the allies supply lines in order to isolate
British forces from the American troops. A pivotal task for German forces to attain this goal was
to gain access and take control of the Belgian town of Bastogne. However, an important strategic
stepping stone to get there was Noville, which is just seven kilometers northeast of Bastogne. Two
main reasons made Noville such a critical location for the Germans: First, it had a junction of roads
that were important for displacement of German forces to the West. Second, it provided an
alternative road to access Bastogne from the north.1
DESCRIPTION OF THE BATTLE On 17 December, 1944, five German divisions were able to
push through the VIII Corps defensive line 100 miles east of Bastogne nullifying

A Short Note On The De La Literatura
La infidelidad, como hemos visto hasta ahora, es un tГіpico que por su controversialidad continГєa

silencio, vergГјenza y pena (Gough, 2000).

Why Is Balance Control Important
How Important Is Ankle Proprioception for Balance Control in Sport Performance and Injury
Abstract
Balance control improvement is one of the most important goals in sports and exercise. Better
balance is strongly positively associated with enhanced athletic performance and negatively
associated with lower limb sports injuries. Proprioception plays an essential role in balance control,
and ankle proprioception is arguably the most important. This paper reviews ankle proprioception
and explores possible links with balance control, specifically in a sport context. Central processing
of ankle proprioceptive information, along with other sensory information, enables integration for
balance control. Care must be taken when assessing ankle proprioception to ensure that the method
used has ecologically valid and allows proprioceptive signals to be integrated in the central nervous
system and reflects the signal noise nature of central processing. Ankle proprioceptive intervention
concepts driven by the central processing theory are further proposed and discussed for the
improvement of balance control in sport.

The relationship between poor balance control and heightened injury risk was identified 30 years
ago. In 1984 Tropp et al. (17) found ankle injuries were almost 4 times more prevalent in soccer
player with poor balance comparison to those with normal balance ability. Similarly, Watson (18)
found hurdling athletes and Gaelic football plays with poor balance had nearly twice as many
ankle injuries relative to their counterparts with normal balance. In addition, balance ability was
found to be significantly associated with ankle injury risk in both younger male and female
basketball players (19). A recent systematic review summarized the available evidence and
suggested that poorer balance ability is an intrinsic factor associated with increased ankle injury risk

Invention Of The Camera And How It Revolutionized History
The Invention of the Camera and How it Revolutionized History Sense the invention of the camera
in 1826 photography has been used to document everything from family portraits, social injustice,
sporting events, world news, expressions of joy and sorrow, and hundreds of monumental moments.
The camera has given man the power to reveal the truth visually. Throughout history photographs
have made enormous impacts on social consciousness and ultimately shaped public opinion on
many pressing issues in society. Although photographyis often considered a casual pastime, the
invention of the camerahas contributed to many aspects of history, science, and other important
pieces of todays world.
Before the invention of the camera, news traveled through word of mouth, writing, telegrams, and
other forms of communication. Often times important moments were depicted through paintings,
and drawings. Unfortunately, because of opinion and misinterpretation, many of those moments,
had been depicted incorrectly. Take, for example the Boston Massacre which took place in the late
1700 s before the invention of the camera. In order to inform people of what is now known as the
shot heard around the world, Paul Revere, a famous American revolutionist made an engraving of
the scene.
People are accustomed to trusting the accuracy of historic documents, however the composition of
this the engraving contains several inaccuracies that serious researchers should be aware of. In Fact

Recruitment of competent RN staff will ensure safe patient care (Markey, 2012). It is important to
fully evaluate each candidate and not rush to fill the position.
Current Recruitment Process The facility I work in has a posting and selection policy that we
follow in order to ensure that candidates are fairly identified and considered for employment,
promotion, or transfer opportunities. This applies for both internal and external candidates. The
first step is for the nurse manager to make a request from upper management the need to post an
opening. Upon receiving approval, the nurse manager then decides whether to post approved open
positions within the department for three (3) calendar days or to post within the organization for
seven (7) calendar days. Appropriate approvals authorize recruitment activity for up to six (6)
months.
Internal Recruitment and Selection Process If posted within the department, applicants submit an
Internal Application form directly to the hiring manager within the three days the position is posted
within the department. If posted within the department and there are no qualified applicants, the
Position Request form is submitted to Human Resources and the position is posted organization
wide for four (4) calendar days. Applicants for positions posted organization wide submit an online

Amazon Chapter 10 Study Guide
SUMMARY OF CH.10
Pricing strategies:
Price: is an amount of money that the consumer is paying for a product or a service.
Costumer value based pricing: to determine the price of product or service we have to consider the
customer expectations of the value not the seller s cost.
Good value pricing means the balance between good quality and service, decent price for both the
customer and the company in order for it to gain profit. It also means, the marketer cannot make a
decision in the marketing program before the product design and the prices are set. Value added
pricing: is the pricing plan which depends on expected values for the consumer. Rather than

My Mother Essay
In most cases, we develop some outstanding qualities and attributes through training and learning.
However, my mother attained those unique qualities through life experience. From a very humble
background, she has struggled with life, passed through a lot to be the person she is today. She
always tells us that experience is the best teacher. Also, through proper parenthood. My
grandparents were very strict and observant. They laid a good foundation to my motherthrough
teaching her on good moral, and how to be responsible. Our parents always act as our role models,
so when they teach us good life techniques, there is the possibility of us being better than them.

Fatigue
Parenthood is usually meant to involve two players, that is husband and wife. To some cases, the
man may be irresponsible, or the woman may be single. My mother was always physically,
emotionally and spiritually worn out because of multitasking and overthinking. As a family, we
depended on her, and to some point, she had no power to provide on to us. She had to balance
work and her health, which was very challenging. She could not get ways to take a breather or
refresh, as she was all committed to giving us the best. She could not have enough sleep, as she
was to wake up early in the morning, prepare us and go to work.
My Mother s Impacts on to my Life
My mom inspired me on being hard working, responsible and accountable. Her perseverance in
life gave me the inspiration for putting more effort in any activity I undertake and get the best out
of my life. She had a goal of giving us a decent and comfortable life, and she made us proud of her.
Again, she impacted me with love and respect to other people. Since she was compassionate and
empathetic, I inherited an attribute of loving anyone despite their social background. In fact, I
wondered how she managed everything perfectly. She also surprised me of her kind nature.
Sometimes I could offend her, hurt her, but she still had that parental

  • 2. Rent Simulation After World War I, the demand for rental housing in New York City threatened to drive rents higher. In order to keep rents from rising to their equilibrium levels, city officials imposed rent ceilings. Over time, the implementation of rent ceilings caused a market shortage to occur because the demand for rent controlled units exceeded the supply. According to the law of supply and demand when the price decreases below the equilibrium point there is a move to the right on the demand curve. Conversely, the decrease in price causes a move to the left on the supply curve. Customers demand more of an item, in this case, housing, when the price is lower; however, the suppliers are willing to supply less at the new lower price. This shift in New... Someone renting in an upscale section of Manhattan might pay only $1,000 a month for a three bedroom rent regulated apartment, yet the same apartment could garner upwards of $12,000 per month in the free market (Mceachern, 2014). Since tenants in rent controlled apartments are allowed to stay in their unit until they die and are permitted to leave their apartment to their heirs, the incentive for renters to remain indefinitely in a rent controlled apartment is very high. Renters financially benefit by keeping a rent controlled apartment, even in situations where the apartment may no longer meet their needs. On the other hand, the landlord is certainly the loser in the rent controlled situation and has an equally high financial incentive to try to get renters out of rent controlled apartments. Landlords and building owners are not the only ones that fail to benefit in a rent control scenario. Other renters that are lower income and unable to secure a rent controlled apartment because the current renters of a rent controlled apartment hold onto them long term (even when the have the income to afford the free market) also lose out in a rent control situation. The actual renters of the rent controlled apartments, while they benefit financially, sometimes lose out as well because the landlord does not keep up the quality of the apartment. As ... • 3. Sandra Cisneros s Hope Hope is something everyone needs to have to achieve their dreams and it often shows through any dark time, but on rare occasions, it isn t always able to get there. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is a novella about two men living through hard times during the great depression. One of these characters had extreme hope for the future and he even made other characters start to feel hopeful like he had but it is diminished in everyone over time. In Only Daughter Sandra Cisneros tells the story of how her hope led her to write her books and led her father to be as proud of her as she had always wanted. In both Of Mice And Men and Only Daughter character s hopefulness had a tremendous effect on other characters, the reader, and the theme. She wrote about how through hope and determination, she eventually got to where she wanted to be with her father s support. To begin, she was lonely and felt isolated because of her father not showing support for her. She had hope for her future because she kept trying to achieve the goal she wanted to reach. This is first seen when she writes, when I was in fifth grade and shared my plans for college with him, I was sure he understood. I remember my father saying Que Bueno, mi ja, that s good. That meant a lot to me, especially considering my brothers thought the idea hilarious. What I didn t realize was that my father thought that college was good for girls for finding a husband (Cisneros 4). Cisneros wanted to go to college to become a writer and a teacher but her father didn t see that future for her. In reality, he saw her opportunity to go through college as a perfect way to get husband. This lack of belief in her never deterred her from working to achieve her dreams and she never let her dreams be for nothing. The impact on her father is shown when she changed her father s opinion on her dream so he now saw ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. You Decide Week 4 Your Decide Assignment Week 4 ACC 553 1. John Smith tax issues: a. How is the $300,000 treated for purposes of federal tax income? In order to determining how the $300,000 fee was received as Federal income on the part Mrs. John Smith, we first have to determine the requirements for income. According to Code Sec. 61(a)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) gross income includes all income from whatever source derived, that is including the following items: compensation for services, including fees, commission, fringe benefits and similar items (Intuit TaxAlmanac, 2006). In John s case, income received from fees that were paid by his client from rendered services will meet that requirement of gross income. Under Section ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John currently leases the property for $3,500 per month for total of $42,000 annual payments. Payment under a lease is deductible (Smith, Harmelink, amp; Hasselback, 2013). Rent is any amount you pay for the use of the property you do not own (IRS.Gov, 2011). John can deduct rent as a business expense only if the rent for the property is used solely for business. If John decides to purchase the building he will indeed benefit from the purchase versus leasing the property. John will benefit from Code Sec. 179, which allows him as a taxpayer to immediately expense a portion of the cost of newly acquired depreciable property rather than depreciation it over multiple years (Smith, Harmelink, amp; Hasselback, 2013). A taxpayer may elect to treat the cost of section 179 properties as an expense, which is chargeable to capital account (Cornell University Law School, 2013). They are limitations as to dollar amount that need to be taken into account under Section 179. If taxpayer places more than $2,000,000 worth of section 179 properties into service during a single taxable year, than under section 179 deductions is reduced, dollar for dollar, by the amount exceeding $2,000,000 threshold (Cornell University Law School, 2013). This threshold is reduced to $560,000 for years beginning in 2012, and $200,000 thereafter (Cornell University Law School, 2013). In addition for the purpose of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Hoovers Relief Efforts Essay Hoovers Relief Efforts In the early years of the Great Depression, before 1932, President Herbert Hoover was faced with a terrible problem. The entire country, and to a large degree the entire world, was in the midst of one of the worst economic recessions in current history. All around the country, people were out of work, down on their luck, and starving. One in every six American males was unemployed, and the future outlook was not much better. In 1930, drought struck Arkansas, worsening the already terrible conditions under which the poor sharecroppers and landowners lived in. The Depression had already been had on these farmers, who had seen the market value of their produce dwindle significantly. As conditions worsened,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The local Red Cross leader met them outside, and told them that if they would wait a half hour he would get them what they needed. He called his bosses in Little Rock, explained the situation to them, and was granted permission to release the food to them. Thus, what could have been a major tragedy was avoided, and the farmers and their families were fed. The national media, however, portrayed it as a mob of starving angry farmers robbing and looting the town of England. The negative portrayal of the scene led an already worn and frightened public to worry about unrest and revolution. The conditions were hardly better in the large cities. In Detroit, were the entire economy centered on the auto manufacturing facilities of the Ford Motor Company, conditions were especially bad. Mayor Murphy tried to give as many people welfare as he could, but soon the number of people needing help forced the program, and the city with it, into desperate financial straights, but because of Hoovers policies, there was no federal money to help them. The members of the communist party, never numbering more than 2000, led thousands of workers in protests on Detroit streets. One of these protest led the workers to the outskirts of Detroit, and the grounds of the Ford plant. • 6. The P5 + 1 Agreement With Iran Jonathan Conlin Dr. Currie American National Government 19 September 2015 An Atrocity of a Deal: The P5+1 Agreement with Iran The P5+1 Agreement, an agreement struck between Iran, China, Russia, France, United Kingdom, United States, Germany, and the European Union. But, why, and what does this deal place on Iran, that can limit their nuclear abilities, as displayed in the past. The deal brings forth rather easy sanctions relief for Iran, limits uranium enrichment to a certain extent where Iran can still produce nuclear weaponry, and reduces the enriched uranium stockpile that can be sold for more natural uranium which can be used to produce more enriched uranium with its ability to still develop advanced centrifuges. The issues lies within the broad and quite loosely held terms of this agreement. Knowing the terms of this agreement, the expected result of these provisions, this deal will actually shorten the time to an Iranian nuclear bomb and allow Iran to produce more nuclear bombs than it currently can construct using enriched uranium and plutonium fuel stated Fred Fleitz from Fox News. The agreement puts the citizens of many countries at high risk, and the evidence of this is incontrovertible, as Iran has access to things that were previously denied of access. The question to ask is, should the senate support this agreement? Sanction relief is the last thing Iran needs if the United States and the rest of the countries are going to limit the proliferation of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

American Dream Motivation The American Dream The American Dream is a dream to live in a place where someone s rights and freedoms can not be taken away from them and where they can achieve their goals without anyone stopping them no matter what their background is. People achieved the American dream through motivation and hard work. Although as time passed, they became too lazy to actually work for it. Somewhere along the way, people began to interpret the American dreamas a dream to live in wealth. Because of this, it has made them think that happiness is defined by how much money they have. They also started to find ways to get rich quick without working for it. Many people question whether or not the American dream is attainable or too far fetched. The American... • 8. The Fifth Amendment For Theu.s. Constitution Essay The sixth amendment to the U.S constitution guarantees a defendant in a criminal prosecution the right to a speedy, public, and impartial trial by jury. Once it has determined that the trial will be by jury, the next step in the criminal proceeding is the selection of the jurors. During this process possible jurors receive a summons in the mall ordering them to appear in court at a specified time and date the people who are summoned comprise the venire (the prospective jurors for cases). Voir direLatin term meaning to speak the truth, this is an examination conducted by the courts or by the attorneys of a potential juror or witness to determine if they would be proficient or qualified for services. Jurors questionnaires reveals information disqualifying them from juryservice is only the first step in the jury selectionprocess. Typical questions relate to whether prospective jurors know the defendant, the attorneys, or any of the witnesses, whether they have read or heard about the case in the media, and whether they have racial, nationality, or gender biases. Effective voir dire is getting the prospective jurors to tell the court or attorneys what they need to know( Ferdico, J 2005). During the voir dire process, the way jurors are removed is part logic and part legal strategy. The judge determines that a potential juror is not likely to be fair to both sides in the case, than the juror will be excused for cause. There are two possible ways prospective jurors may be ... The Desolate City Annotations After the repetition of the dream passage beginning in bar sixty, another interlude starts in bar sixty eight that both transitions from the previous mood and prepares for the next. Continuity from the previous section is seen with the arpeggiation and statements of a motive from the opening vocal line. The interlude also helps to prepare for a more somber mood with the appearance of A@ minor, the parallel minor. The vocal line, in which the speaker outrightly admits doubt regarding the ideal, is marked recitative, and its chordal accompaniment is appropriately sparse. The shift to this section is quick, with an applied dominant seventh chordto B@ minor in bars seventy four and seventy five. In a moment of truth, all attention is appropriately... Sappho, the only ancient Greek female author whose work survived, talks from the female point of observation, whereas Plato s work concentrates on the idea of love among males. Though both of their perspectives are similar in ways such as their ideas of physical attraction and desire, Platos work creates a better understanding of the nature of love then Sappho s ideas. This understanding will be shown with three arguments and counter arguments in order to demonstrate the dominance of Plato over Sappho. It will than be concluded with an overview of the main idea and a recap of the three arguments made for Plato. In the symposium, Pausanias (Greek geographer) conveys the second part which talks about a few of the societal standards representing gay (homoerotic) relationships. The way that a companion (an older man) and his lover ( a younger man) may act towards each other is largely based on society s ethical code. It is shown that the tradition of this relationship is pursuer to the pursued; the older man takes the initiative in the relationship and is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Plato s work can be summarized by that the goal is essentially intellectual satisfaction, while Sappho s objectives are directly linked with physical beauty and desire for physical attraction. Plato s work provides a better understanding of love because the homoerotic relationship between an older man and younger man creates positivity because it expands the virtue in the older man and the wisdom in the younger man. Secondly, Pausanias shows the moral aspects are important within homoerotic love because they are a guide to the right and wrong ways to satisfy desire. • 12. Percent Copper In Brass Percent Copper in Brass I. Introduction Have you ever been to any orchestra show or home improvement store before? If you have, I m sure you have seen those fancy gold colored instruments or fancy door knobs or faucets from the home improvement store. Have you ever wondered what they are made up of? They are made up with the binary alloy called brass. Brass is a binary alloy made up of copper and zinc with an additional amount of lead and tin(Brass in Focus, Angela Vessey,2004). Its density is known as 8.3 to 8.7 g/cm3, and melting point is 1652 to 1724 В°F(Bell,2017). The characteristics of the brass are varied on the amount of zinc and copper. The higher amount of zinc seems to be cast easier while the lower amount of zinc can be cold worked easier; high amounts of copper allow the brass to form a patina, coating of the thin oxide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In real world, we use Beer s law to find out the amount of copper or zinc in the brass. The most accurate way to find the amount of copper is by drawing a calibration curve. When a calibration curve is a straight line, we represent it using y=ОІ0+ОІ1x where y is the signal, Sstd, and x is the analyte concentration, Cstd. The constants ОІ0 and ОІ1 are, respectively, the calibration curve s expected y intercept and its expected slope. Because of uncertainty in our measurements, the best we can do is to estimate values for ОІ0 and ОІ1, which we represent as b0 and b1. The goal of a linear regression analysis is to determine the best estimates for b0 and b1. How we do this depends on the uncertainty in our measurements(Harvey,2016). Meanwhile, all the brasses share same characteristics of malleability and ductility. All the brasses are capable of being shaped and can be drawn into a wire(Brass in focus, Angela Vessey,2004). In the real world, brass is used for decoration, mechanical applications, as well as for musical instruments. Depends on the copper percentage in brass, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a fascinating opportunity to reflect on all the inventions that have been made throughout each of our lifetimes. Two very important individuals that shaped the world we live in today is Sir Isaac Newton and Georges Pierre Seurat. Sir Isaac Newton was an English mathematician and physicist. There is a theory that Newton discovered gravity when he saw a falling apple. Supposedly, when he was observing the apple he was also thinking about the forces of nature. In the first stage, which was started in 1884, Seurat mixed his paints from several individual pigments and was still using dull earth pigments such as ochre or burnt sienna. In the second stage, during 1885 and 1886, Seurat dispensed with the earth pigments and also limited the number of individual pigments in his paints. This change in Seurat s palette was due to his application of the advanced color theories of his time. His intention was to paint small dots or strokes of pure color that would then mix on the retina of the beholder to achieve the desired color impression instead of the usual practice of mixing individual pigments.Seurat s palette consisted of the usual pigments of his time such as cobalt blue, emerald green and vermilion. Additionally, Seurat used then new pigment zinc yellow (zinc chromate), predominantly for yellow highlights in the sunlit grass in the middle of the painting but also in mixtures with orange and blue pigments. Gaine et al reported that the incidence of superficial infection and early deep infections following joint replacement were 14.3% and 1.1% respectively. We could identify several classification systems for leaky wounds. However, these classification systems have been devised by individual authors, which have not been repeated between papers. To be specific there is no universally accepted classification system. The leaky wounds often lead to treatment dilemma, prolonged hospital stay and delayed return to activity (Gaine et al). His father s death occurs in the early 1940s, where oppression and racism were still fairly prevalent in many cities across the nation. In one sentence, Baldwin manages to switch gears, from one that is very private to a description of the general feeling felt among the people living in Harlem. Baldwin, being a part of the community, takes his own feelings of waiting and applies it to a general picture, where a lot of people were in fact waiting as well. I think that A Raisin in the Sun would be a great choice for our school play for many reasons. The play is relevant because the American dream is a major theme in it, important because it tackles racism, and entertaining because the internal family conflicts put the viewer on edge. The title of this play, A Raisin in the Sun, reveals relevance to The Covenant School. The name of the play came from a poem by Langston Hughes about the outcome of dreams that do not become reality. The selection relating to the title reads: What happens to a dream deferred? / Does it dry up / like a raisin in the sun? (Langston Hughes). This quote is relevant because it is asking what happens when we put off our dreams. As a Covenant high school student, my peers and I have dreams for the future, and many of them will not be achieved for many reasons, like losing motivation or not having time. All the characters in A Raisin in the Sun have dreams, such as Walter s dream to invest in a liquor store, or Beneatha s dream to become a doctor. Most of these dreams in the play do not become a reality, similar to most dreams that high schoolers have. So, seeing how other people deal with their dreams helps high schoolers in dealing with their own dreams. She hired a carpenter to build a new birdcage (Ibid:65 68) . Three causative verbs are exceptions to the pattern described above. Instead of being followed by a noun/pronoun and an infinitive, the causative verbs have, make and let are followed by a noun/pronoun and the base form of the verb (which is actually an infinitive with the to left off). Causative verbs also indicate that some person or thing helps to bring about a new state of affairs In other words, a causative verb shows that someone or something somehow causes something to happen. The verb might be strong in meaning and imply force. The Longman Grammar of Spoken and Written English divides causative verbs into two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Concepts Of At Risk And Risk Of Young People s Lives... Introduction The concepts of at risk and risk are prominent in much of the literature on the sociology of youth. The objective of this essay is to explore the positive and negative sides of focusing on risk in young people s lives, and contend that although the concepts may help us to understand youth behaviours, there is a need to be cautious in its implementation, as they carry a number of implicit assumptions. Firstly, the approaches of at risk and risk taking are defined; in order to understand the different ways the concepts are related to young people. These positive aspects include of the identification of at risk youth for prevention measures and Stephen Lyng s edgework notion to comprehend individuals voluntary risk taking . Secondly, discussions the usefulness of the concepts in promoting our comprehension of young individuals behaviours are provided. Lastly, limitations of the approaches are discussed to highlight the precautions needed when applying the concepts, as it may lead to placing the blame on at risk youth, higher degree of scrutiny for young women than their men and the normalised assumption on behalf of the risk taking notion. The concepts of at risk and risk taking There are two main concepts in the literatures of the sociology of youth, which linked risk and young people together. • 33. Abraham Lincoln s Political Legacy In chapter eight of the book Abraham Lincoln s political legacy is looked at. It goes in depth on how during the Reconstruction, the republican party essentially ruined the South for twelve years by instituting puppet governments that constantly raised taxes but provided very few public benefits (7). This chapter talks also talks about how the republican partystole money from the raised taxes. It seems like the main goal for the government at this point was to become an empire under Abraham Lincolnand his business supporters. Lincoln s own Reconstruction ideas made a mockery of democracy (227). He believed that at least 10 percent of the southern population probably had Unionist sympathies, and he wanted representatives of that group to be put into place by the Republican Party as the governors, mayors, and local public officials of the Southern states after the war (227). Abraham Lincoln seems like he is trying to get all the power he can by taking control of the south and making them do certain duties after the war is over. Lincoln was trying to explore Central Government according to Richard Bensel (232). Chapter nine describes Lincoln s economic legacy (7). Lincoln was trying to get easy votes from the majority of the people and he knew he can do that with the northern states. The south on the other hand did not agree with his policies and the American System he wanted to establish. The only things that were standing in his way to have complete power was, the ... Power is something many desire where people often change and become evil in their attempts to acquire it and during this play the characters go through many changes which lead to disaster. The two main characters mostly influenced by power in this Shakespearean play are Macbethand Lady Macbeth. Macbeth is swayed by the prophecy made by the witches and also by Lady Macbeth who holds great control over her husband. (ACT II scene 1, line 33 34) This foreshadowing illustrates the subconscious thoughts of Macbeth and how they materialize in front of him. He starts to visualize this dagger, predicting the malicious tasks ahead which add the disturbing atmosphere. Macbeth chooses to abuse his power over others and he becomes a hated king. This is caused not only by his cruelty but also the many superstitions by people who think he killed Duncan which greatly depleted his power. Lady Macbeth is quick to become evil in her ways as she is the mastermind behind the killing of Duncan. He that s coming must be provided for, and you shall put this night s great business into my dispatch (ACT I scene 6, lines 64 66). These heartless puns convey Lady Macbeth s merciless intentions for the night s gathering. Being provided for often takes on the meaning of being fed but in this case Lady Macbeth is referring to the death of King Duncan. Finally in the last section of this chapter, we will forecast the future outlook of Intra Asia for the next five years. 4.1 Analysis of Intra Asia Market We had tailored our interview questions to gather professional opinions on the future outlook of Intra Asia and Intra Asia container shipping and how they could impact and affect the shipowners and operators (Appendix D). Based on the interviews results (Appendix E) we had gathered, 80% of the respondents believe that the current shipping market is now in its recovery from the longest downturn in three decades in the shipping industry. It is largely due to the cause of overcapacity of ships in the market that have depressed freight rates since the end of a shipping boom in 2008 (Shipping Industry sees an end to five year downturn, 2014). The current recovery seem to be fragile in Europe, though it is gaining traction in the US and UK, while emerging market is showing signs of slow growth (Howard, 2014). Alternative dispute resolution is basically a way of solving civil dispute. It is the collective term for the ways that parties settle civil disputes, with the assistance of an autonomous third party and without the need of a court hearing which often leads to a mutual understanding between both parties. In situations where mediation does not decide the case, a variety of other options which includes conciliation, arbitration, adjudication and private judging which is a rare option of ADR. In 2006, the first suit case against the Environmental Protection Agency was reached to the U.S Supreme Court (Aminzade, 2006). A petition claimed that climate change through emissions and air pollutants caused harm to public health and welfare. This case grabbed the attention of multiple environmental agencies; it also gained support from political and human rightsactivists figures (Aminzade, 2006). Another petition in 2004 by Inuit claimed that the U.S climate change policy violated the human rights to life, the right to health, and movement (Goldberg Wagner, 2004). The Inuit petition describes how climate change is affecting the Arctic environment on which the Inuit depend. It argued that climate change violates the Inuit rights, including the right to life, health, and property. Based on the petition, the Inuit s right to life is violated because critical food resources are threatened by climate change, and unpredicted weather events can cause loss of life (Knox, 2009). Badian first gives Goethe s explanation of the mosaic. Goethe believes that Alexander appears as a conqueror while Darius is in horror. Badian, in this paper, attempts to show that Darius is in the prominent position and Alexander does not appear a conqueror or a hero. Badian starts his argument by discussing the similarities of a realistic action painting, like this Mosaic, and a snapshot. This means that the artist is focusing on one moment in time, and chooses what he wants to show. Badian then start to talk about the mosaic. He shows how the movement is from right to left, or... Alexander, however, cannot seem to be able to control his horse and his helmet has fallen off. This makes him appear as unheroic. The tree in the mosaic is another piece of Baldin s argument. In order for Darius to use his cavalry, Darius cleared the ground of the battlefield. This means the tree in the composition was obvious added by the artists and therefore must have a meaning. One interpretation Baldin gives is that the tree signifies the destruction of Alexander s wars. Badian ends by discussing the artist. He identifies the commissioner as Cassander, a King of Macadoia from 305 297 BC, and who Alexander treated poorly. Badian believes this poor treatment caused Cassander to have a bias while commissioning the mosaic. Therefore, he wanted a piece that did not glorify Alexander, even if he won every war against the persians. Over Concentration Of Services Essay This study identifies four strands of thought that outline the factors which can lead to the over concentration of services; traditional trade theory, new trade theory, new economic geography theory and the interplay between globalisation and competition. It is from this four factors in which the negative effects of the over concentration of services are created. These negative effects will be discussed and analysed in a bid to understand what can done to reduce them. Polycentricity and territorial cohesion policy, and the measures associated with their implications, are identified as the tools for reducing the negative effects of over concentration. The study also questions the extent of success of these tools. Europeis viewed as the best platform to comprehend the relevant concepts and thus will provide the context in which to carry out the study. Traditional trade theory explains the over concentration of services through variations in labour skills and other contributions to production (Heckscher 1919; Ohlin 1933), or in productivity (Ricardo 1917). These differences establish comparative advantages (Ricardo 1917) between cities, regions and countries. Thus, trade allows the concentration of services to grow and shrink in reaction to these advantages. In reality, cities, regions and countries may have different production arrangements but similar production technologies (Krugman 1991a). More interesting is the way musical creation is changing as a result of new technologies, whether we like it or not. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its pointless to look for the original blueprint of a digital representation, because it s independent of the hardware it s stored in, and meaningful only in the information it encodes. Hyperreality results from a loss of distinction between the representations and the things they re intended to represent. In our culture, the separation between a song and the digital file of a song is becoming trivial. Computers allow information to be torn free of its original context, and reinterpreted upon retrieval. Representation engines are the ideal enablers of hyperreality, giving almost limitless power to reorder simulacra upon simulacra. The internet takes the representational capacities of computers, and spreads them over a vast symbolic network. Anyone with an internet connection instantly gains manipulative control over a whole world of digital abstractions. These have the unique property of not being tied down to any specific physical origin. It follows that they re infinitely recreatable, and intimately tied to their user defined context. This decontextualization began, to a lesser extent, with the advent of audio cassettes, allowing the creation of mix tapes. A mix tape lets the listener take small parts (usually whole songs) from different physical source material (records), and combine them into a new whole, consisting of copied parts. These events took place 18 19 December 1944, and later impacted the battle fought at Bastogne during World War II. It is the goal of this review to discuss and analyze three mission command principles displayed during this battle: Create shared understanding, exercise disciplined initiative, and the acceptance of prudent risk. One of the main characters that took part in this story was the 20th Armored Infantry Battalion, 10th Armored Division. The commanding officer of this element was Major William R. Desobry. During the events of World War II, the German forces were trying to gain control of the Ardennes to cut off the allies supply lines in order to isolate British forces from the American troops. A pivotal task for German forces to attain this goal was to gain access and take control of the Belgian town of Bastogne. However, an important strategic stepping stone to get there was Noville, which is just seven kilometers northeast of Bastogne. Two main reasons made Noville such a critical location for the Germans: First, it had a junction of roads that were important for displacement of German forces to the West. Second, it provided an alternative road to access Bastogne from the north.1 DESCRIPTION OF THE BATTLE On 17 December, 1944, five German divisions were able to push through the VIII Corps defensive line 100 miles east of Bastogne nullifying ... Why Is Balance Control Important How Important Is Ankle Proprioception for Balance Control in Sport Performance and Injury Abstract Balance control improvement is one of the most important goals in sports and exercise. Better balance is strongly positively associated with enhanced athletic performance and negatively associated with lower limb sports injuries. Proprioception plays an essential role in balance control, and ankle proprioception is arguably the most important. This paper reviews ankle proprioception and explores possible links with balance control, specifically in a sport context. Central processing of ankle proprioceptive information, along with other sensory information, enables integration for balance control. Care must be taken when assessing ankle proprioception to ensure that the method used has ecologically valid and allows proprioceptive signals to be integrated in the central nervous system and reflects the signal noise nature of central processing. Ankle proprioceptive intervention concepts driven by the central processing theory are further proposed and discussed for the improvement of balance control in sport. Introduction ...
