Neoclassical architecture began in the mid-18th century as a rejection of Baroque and Rococo styles in favor of classical Greek and Roman architecture. There are three main styles: temple style draws from ancient Greek temples and features a peristyle; Palladian style is based on Andrea Palladio's villas and uses balustrades and balusters; classical block style features rectangular plans with classical details and repeated patterns of columns or arches. Famous examples include the Panthéon, British Museum, White House, and United States Capitol Building.
