The Pros And Cons Of Public Education
From a historical perspective, compulsory public education is a relatively new concept. Prior to
establishing public schools, education was reserved for the privileged elite thought to have an innate
predisposition for learning. (Office of Education, 1965; Hazlet, 2011, Iorio, 2011, p3, Comer, 1996)
Consensus is difficult to achieve within a large and diverse population. Early colonial America was
comprised of a variety of cultures and religions. Agreement on the importance of a strong moral
education did not equate to agreement on the delivery system. Much of early moral education
occurred in the home with the mother serving as the teacher. (McClellan, 29) Not convinced the home
environment was ideal due to variations in parenting styles, and in an effort to assure uniform and
appropriate moral education, public schools were established (McClellan, 30, Hazlet, 2011 p1).
Agreement about the role and goals of public education was not forthcoming. The main challenge was
to create non denominational moral education allowing Sunday school to fill in the gaps for specific
denominational doctrine (McClellan, 29).
In his 1749 writing Proposals Relating To The Education Of Youth In Pennsylvania , when speaking
of establishing educational institutions for the youth of America, Benjamin Franklin wrote:
For though the American Youth are allow d not to want Capacity; yet the best Capacities require
Cultivation, it being truly with them, as with the best Ground, which unless well

Patricia Piccinini The Comforter Analysis
Patricia Piccinini is known for creating extraordinary pieces of work, her personal interest in science
has developed into a broader interest in capturing the aspects of relationships between humans and the
possible future genetic animal mutations in her art. Her sculptures are primarily constructed from
silicone and fiberglass, inviting us into a world where the advances of biotechnology along with
digital technologies are challenging the boundaries of humanity. She exhibits a personal perspective
into some of the most difficult ethical issues of our time (QAGOMA, 2018) as the audience is
confronted with the prospect of artificial technology, questioning our ethical obligations in caring for
these mutations. The political, social and moral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As biotechnology and genetic manipulation develop, it is only politically and ethically correct for the
creators of these creatures to take responsibility to ensure that the process and correct function of these
creatures is smooth. Much of Piccinini s work relates to the human condition. There are
representations of love, intimacy, trust, care and protection in her art. She captures in her work the
bonds formed between human and genetically modified mutations (QAGOMA, 2018) whether the
relationships are strong or weak. The Bond The Comforter and The Welcome Guest invite us to look
beyond the strangeness of the creatures to make connections in finding the beauty in a world not ruled
by the notions of perfection. The sculptures questions our ethical obligation in looking after these
creatures, in a place where technology has become so natural that it takes on a life of its

Detecting, Classifying And Tracing Non-Functional Software...
Summary of Detecting, Classifying, and tracing non functional software requirements The article was
written by Anas Mahmoud. The article speaks about the well organized method for detecting,
classifying and tracing non functional software requirements these are known as (NFRs). The
exploration of this article is centred on the main expectations that NFRs tend to be indirectly enforced
by the software systems functional requirements. Knowledge like this can be used to capture, model
and therefore be used to find the exact NFRs in the actual system. Specifically, a far reaching orderly
investigation of a progression of word semantic similitude strategies and bunching calculations was

Summary of Functional and non functional requirements prioritization: empirical evaluation of IPA,
AHP based, and HAM based approaches This article was written by Mohammad Dabbagh. The article
is mainly about methodologies and application. All the way through the fundamentals building stage
the way towards offering the priority to one necessity above others is very helpful to achieve and on a
predefined plan. This procedure is alluded to as fundamentals prioritization. Even though a lot of
research has been committed to proposing different ways to deal with and play out the fundamentals
prioritization, just few prioritization approaches have been as of late announced with the point of
considering both practical and non utilitarian requirements amongst prioritization organise. From the
article it tells us that the writers and authors have performed two progressive controlled investigations
with the point of assessing the present fundamentals prioritization approaches. In the primary
investigation they looked at the incorporated prioritization approach (IPA) with the other approach
called AHP based approach and within the second investigation IPA was contrasted and the other
cutting edge elective named HAM based approach. In the tests, the assessment depended on
measuring three properties: real time utilization, precision of results and usability. Also in this article
the authors and writers gave us an

Learning Outside The Classroom Rationale Report
This report will discuss the rationale for a unit of work, combining a class trip to Jodrell Bank. It has
been planned and considered for a Year 1 class, but is adaptable to suit any Key Stage 1 class. It
concentrates on the effective teaching of the foundation subjects, in particular, History and Art and
Design, supporting the use of Learning Outside the Classroom (LOTC).
The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) defines Learning Outside the Classroom ( LOTC ) as
... the use of places other than the classroom for teaching and learning (Council for Learning Outside
the Classroom, 2017: online). The use of LOTC in schools has proven to contribute to children s

Whilst the benefits of LOTC are clear it is important to note that it may only be effective when
relevant to the National Curriculum and planned for in the correct context (Beames et al, 2012).
Whilst the importance and benefits of LOTC has been reported by many educational and professional
bodies in the past, it has also been noted that some schools are reluctant to plan for LOTC due to the
pressure of a packed National Curriculum and time constraints (Maynard and Waters, 2007). However,
Ofsted has addressed these concerns, along with concerns about financial barriers and health and
safety aspects, in their report dated 2008. Suggesting that, where the LOTC activity directly related to
the curriculum and specific learning outcomes, the majority of the planning for the trip would already
be complete, reducing the demand of teachers.
Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre is a site 20 miles South of Manchester which was initially set up by
Bernard Lovell and the University of Manchester in 1945 as an observation station to monitor the
activity of cosmic rays. Today, Jodrell Bank still operates as a leading radio astronomy facility and
home to the Lovell Telescope (Jodrell Bank online).

Why Is Cal Mccaffrey Unethical
In today s day and age, mass media has completely changed the way in which we consume news. The
truthfulness of the millions of blogs and web pages makes it hard to trust what is true and what is not.
Newspapers are often an overlooked form of news, which is surprising considering that it is a
accurate, curated source of media. What sets newspapers apart from all the countless blogs and web
pages is the set of ethics that the reporters and editors are required to follow. In State of Play Cal
McCaffrey, a reporter for the Washington Globe, did not act in accordance to the code of ethics.

This act was both unethical and illegal because McCaffrey was not authorized to be in the morgue and
was invading the privacy of the dead victim. A journalist should never trespass on private property or
look at information that was not made public such as phone records. McCaffrey had an extreme
conflict of interest whilst covering the story of Sonia Baker, the leader researcher for an investigation
on PointCorp. McCaffrey was college roommate with Senator Stephen Collins, representing
Pennsylvania and on the investigation. McCaffrey also had a romantic relationship with Collins wife,
Anne Collins. This was a clear conflict of interest as McCaffrey was friends with the Collins and
would be motivated to giving them a favorable story. McCaffrey should not have been anywhere near
this story, because a reporter should never have a conflict of interest while covering a

HIPAA Compliance Essay
HIPAA Compliance
If you are in the healthcare industry, you have probably heard some rumblings about the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, coolly referred to as HIPAA. The word is your
medical practice will have to be HIPAA compliant by April 2003, but you re not exactly sure what this
act mandates or how to accomplish it. In very basic terms, HIPAA has two primary components to
which hospitals, health plans, healthcare clearinghouses, and healthcare providers must conform: 1)
Administrative simplification, which calls for use of the same computer language industry wide; 2)
Privacy protection, which requires healthcare providers to take reasonable measures to protect patients
written, oral, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
HIPAA doesn?t necessarily prescribe the solutions, but it does require physicians to look at all of the
ways that they use and access data today and determine whether that?s reasonable or not. to help you
begin your HIPAA compliance process, following are some practical ideas for rethinking how you
maintain and use patient information in your office. Appoint one or two staff members (depending on
the size of your office) to review the HIPAA act, determine the changes your practice needs to make,
and decide if you?ll need outside help. To keep this project manageable, do not wait until the last
minute. Remember: most of the healthcare industry will have to be HIPAA compliant by April 14,
2003. Furthermore, compliance is not optional. Those found in violation of the act will be penalized:
Civil penalties range up to $25,000 per violation of each standard. Criminal penalties range up to
$250,000 in fines and/or up to 10 years in prison. 3
An important part of HIPAA is the minimum use standard, which mandates that healthcare providers
use and disclose patient information in ways that are minimally necessary to accomplish the task. For
example, a billing clerk does not need access to a patient?s entire medical history to bill for a service
rendered, says Hole Curry. Therefore, you may want to divide patient files into sections, having an
office policy that clearly states who may access each section. Consider converting to pocket style
classification folders,

Rainsford Cocky Quotes
Jerry was a kid at high school, who thought that he was all that. There is a difference between having
skills and putting them to use, and being confident and cocky and being arrogant about it. Jerry on the
other hand didn t have skills, and was very arrogant about everything that he did, boasting about his so
called talents. Rainsford falls overboard a yacht and comes upon an island, Ship Trap Island, where he
meets General Zaroff and is forced to play a game with the general. During the hunt, the generals over
confidence and cockiness leads to Rainsfords victory. Rainsford s experience and intellect helps to

Interplanetary Theory Of Gender In The Picture Of Dorian...
Introduction For many, Oscar Wilde is seen as a prominent literary figure, known for his novel The
Picture of Dorian Grey and plays such as The Importance of Being Earnest. However, Wilde s literary
contributions make up only a small fraction of his complex life. Wilde s life consisted not just of
artistry and literary genius but passion, scrutiny and scandal as well. The drama and passion of his
narratives mirrored that of the life he lived; characters hid their true identities and struggled with their
image, just as Wilde did throughout his life. One of the struggles faced by Wilde was that of his
sexuality the the scrutiny he faced because of it. While Wilde s exact sexuality has been debated over
the years, it is a well known fact that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it is seen by many historians as a time of expansion, technological revolution, and cultural
shifts, it can also be viewed as one consisting of immense prejudices in an attempt to cling to
traditional values and norms. This can be seen in the vastly different views towards men and women
which presented themselves during this time. Although the term Interplanetary Theory of Gender is a
fairly new one, the effects of that mindset can be seen throughout history, seen most especially in the
Victorian Era. During this era, the sexes were not only viewed as vastly different, but were often times
viewed as different species altogether. According to Kathryn Hughes, the Victorian Era divided the
sexes more than any other era up until that point in history. Although many women had begun the
fight for their rights, gender inequity permeated all aspects of British life (Marsh). Women were
defined by the domestic life, many times barred from receiving an education or any legal rights. The
misogyny that limited women was one that was instilled at birth, allowing the idea that women should
be viewed lesser than men as unquestionable and and permanent fact in society s eyes. John Stuart
Mills wrote how early the youth thinks himself superior to his mother, owing her forbearance perhaps
but no real respect...

Audre Lorde Research Papers
Audre Lorde was born on February 18, 1934 in New York City to immigrant parents from the West
Indies. She learned to talk, read, and write somewhere around the age of four and wrote her first poem
in eighth grade, which was then published in Seventeen magazine. In 1962, Lorde married a man
named Edward Rollins and had two children before they divorced in 1970. However, in 1968 she
moved to Tougaloo, Mississippi and met her long term partner, Frances Clayton. Her earliest poems
were often romantic, but in the 1960s became more politically centered due to the amount of civil
unrest combined with confusion over her own sexuality. At the time many of her poems were written,

The idea of feminist criticism began in the 1960s, right around the time Lorde wrote and published
much of her work. She used feminist theory as a way to undermine traditional patriarchal systems and
unite women in a struggle against discrimination, oppression, racism, sexism, and patriarchy. Her
writing aims to examine and promote women s interests, as well as help women of various
backgrounds identify with one another through their commonality of systemic oppression and their
desire for basic human rights. In Lorde s words, I am defined as other in every group I m part of . This
phrase is a product of our society s notion that to be different means one can not associate oneself with
any given group unless they fit wholly into that and nothing else. As Lorde puts it, It is not our
differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.
Lorde was known to have criticized some feminists during the 1960s for focusing on the specific
experiences of white middle class women rather than women as a diverse group. Through her work,
she has observed that black women s experiences are often vastly different from those of white
women, and because being a white woman is considered normal, black women are often marginalized
and cast out of the woman identity . This is similar to the way lesbians are considered to be against
feminism for not fitting the mold of the

Offensive Word Essay
The main issue is the use of a word that many find offensive, in a book that many consider to be one
of the greatest American novels. To make the book more accessible to a greater number of people,
New South Books has reprinted Huckleberry Finn changing that offensive word to slave . The
argument has two sides, on one side of the argument we have the scholars who believe that removing
the offensive word from the book changes the book and makes the impact of the book less significant;
the other side of the argument is those who say changing the word to a less offensive word takes away
the impact and importance of the book. The first side who is in favor of the word being included in the
book believe that talking about the word is important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He read a quote from the book that puts Huck Finn and Jim on the same side and not against each

every time the word it read it does just that. Others feel that the use of the word 219 times in the book
is excessive and disrupts the message of anti slavery. Was Mark Twain just trying to capture the
manner in which people spoke back in Huckleberry Finn s time, which is what those in favor of
keeping the offensive language in the book believe? I get the sense that Byron Pitts does feel
uncomfortable with the word being used, for this reason he seems to sway towards the side in favor of
censoring the book. He seems to ask for more of an explanation from David Bradley than he does
from Williams, this is another reason I think he leans towards the censoring of the word. It is hard for
me to say which side I am on. Changing literature because people are offended by it does change the

Chartism
In Britain, the tough times of the late 1830s and 1840s, sometimes called the hungry forties , and the
underwhelming increase in voters in the Reform Bill of 1832 gave birth to a political movement
named Chartism. Chartism was a movement based on improving the political, social, and economic
conditions of the working class and is considered the first mass working class movement in the world.
The main points of the Chartist movement are defined in the People s Charter, a document calling for
six changes: universal manhood suffrage, the end of the property requirement for Parliament
members, annual elections, equal electoral districts, and an income for Parliament members (Doc. 1).

balls and tea parties which are not very revolutionary like at all possibly to mimic the middle class and
to try and get rid of their perceived revolutionary beliefs (Doc. 6). An article in the Chartist, the
newspaper directed towards the moral force Chartists, on the Chartists who wanted to use violence
said that while the British do in fact have the right to rebel, it is not necessary for this movement (Doc.
3). A letter from Lord John Russell, the Prime Minister, to Queen Victoria in 1848 described the
deliverance of a petition by the Chartists. There was no violence, and even O Connor was more than
grateful towards the Commissioner of Police for allowing the march to happen (Doc. 10). Chartists
usually either tried using petitions, some of over 3 million signatures, or strikes, which were usually
very peaceful, to try and get what they wanted. The Chartists ultimately failed to pass the People s
Charter through Parliament. After 1848, many people began losing interest in the movement, so it
began to rapidly decline. Men began to now look towards labor unions as a way to achieve economic
change. One place where the Chartists did get some headway in early on was Australia when, in 1854,
miners in Victoria put forth Chartist demands. Within a year after the revolt, which was successfully
suppressed, Australia

The Discovery And Consumption Of Coffee Essay
Imagine waking up Saturday morning. It s a chilly day while the sun is barely rising and you re tug in

favorite coffee drink, Mocha, Frappuccino, Latte, Espresso, you name it, while you read a book or

history that you have never wondered or asked yourself like many of us. Most of us drink coffee for
many reason, but not many know the history behind the discovery of coffee. It might not be in the
interest of many, but having some knowledge of how coffee evolved in today s society will give you a
greater view of its early discovery and consumption. I drink coffee at least every morning to wake me

coffee in the early years. Coffee is not just a typical drink it has a long history behind it and it shapes

You may be asking yourself, why did opium even become an object of trade? Well, Opium originally
started becoming an object of trade when, Western traders, including those from the United States, had
long sought a variety of Chinese products (including furniture, silk and tea), but found there were few
products that China wanted from the West. (The Opening to China Part I: the First Opium War, the
United States, and the Treaty of Wangxia, 1839 1844) Before the war, Opium was very highly used in
trade, because the British couldn t find any other values which China wanted from them. The opium
started to become addictive to the Chinese creating a greater connection between Canton and Guangxi
Guangdong region. But Opium soon became unwanted in China because of the addictions, a majority
of the population, was just lethargic and also all of the silver in China was being poured into the
British banks through the Opium trade. The sums of money circulating in the southeast because of the
opium trade and the stock piling of silks and teas for export in turn brought heightened official
corruption and a rise in state revenues from transit dues and from taxation of legitimate foreign trade .

Hrm 534 Course Project Proposal
Science Application International Corporation (SAIC) is the organization I work for. It is a service
based company that provides its expertise to the Department of Defense and the Federal Government
as well as other smaller organizations. I ve been approved to work remotely and have been actively
doing it for over five years. My proposal for SAIC is to expand the ability to work remotely to a larger
group of employees.
Some reasons to expand remote work includes; saving time, saving money, and reducing resources
usage. Employees will have a better work/life balance, have improved productivity, and have the
flexibility to schedule work around personal needs. These employee improvements will lead to less
stress, better creativity, and higher performance, and better job satisfaction. Allowing more employees
to work from home can prevent a future need to expand to larger office spaces.

Yokuts California Case Study
The Yokuts: A California Case Study
The Yokuts inhabited the San Joaquin valley in California. There were over 40 independent groups
and each of them had a distinct name, dialect and territory. The San Joaquin Valley is bounded by
mountains on the east, west and south and to the north flow the Kern and San Joaquin rivers into the
ocean. The climate in the valley is hot with dry mild summers, semiarid winters and very minimal
precipitation. Originally, the area was rich in a network of rivers, streams, lakes and sloughs fed by
waters from Sierra Nevada to the east and it is very productive and rich in resources such as food,
wood for construction, firewood and manufacturing tools. After these rivers and streams were diverted
for agricultural purposes, the valley dried up and became a vast area of farmland. The foothills
elevations are higher and cooler and are occupied by some Yokuts groups. They managed their
environment both passively and actively to improve forage for deer, eliminate underbrush growth,
make it easy to traverse, and for hunters as well. Passively, they did religious ceremonies to ensure the
continuation of favorable conditions.
The Yokuts spoke the Penutian language but each mini tribe spoke a different dialect. The earliest
recorded contact with the Europeans was when the Spanish came looking or renegade soldiers.
Spanish expeditions to the San Joaquin took Yokuts to missions but then the United States seized
California from Mexico and the territory got

The Civil War still has major impacts on America today. For example, an immediate response to the
war was the ending of slavery and the beginning of equality in education, jobs, and many other aspects
of life. On the negative side, some traces of racism still exist today. Black people are still reminded of
their ancestors and their past of slavery before the war and segregation after the war. Marathon,
Greece is located about 22 miles from Athens, Greece. This is the site of the famous Battle of
Marathon which took place in 490 B.C. between the Athenians, led by Platea, and the Persians, led by
Datis and Artaphernes. The Persian War was sparked by the Greek involvement and support in the
Ionian revolt, Ionia was a small Greek polis. The Athenians sent forces to aid the Ionians in their
endeavor to overthrow Persian rule. King Darius I of Persia swore he would get revenge on the
Athenians. The Battle of Marathon marked a turning point in the Persian Wars, which ended the
Persian invasion. The Greeks took a victory over Persian in this battle and Persia was at a loss of more
than just dignity. They lost the chance of expansion which was necessary to acquire more resources
and wealth for their kingdom. To notify the city of defeat or victory a runner, Phaedippas was sent to
Athens and when he arrived he was able to get the word victory out and then collapsed and died. The
Greek word for victory is Nike and this is where the shoe company got its name.

The Earth’s Nuclear Core Essay

The Earth s core is like a massive nuclear reactor, burning uranium into lighter elements, and
producing much of the geological phenomenon observed on the Earth. This fission reactor is
responsible for producing most of the Earth s heat and energy, as well as, the phenomenon of

reactor derived from empirical data observed in the earth, and logical evidence to prove that the theory
is true.
The theory started when geologists in the fifties began whether natural occurring nuclear fission was
possible. Eventually, empirical evidence presented itself. In 1972 at the Oklo uranium mine in western

238. Uranium is the heaviest naturally occurring element on Earth and it is common in fission
reactions. Early in the Earth s formation, numerous elemental changes were taking place. Some
elements would combine with other elements to become stable. In the case of the newly formed Earth,
many elements looked for oxygen to become stable. However, early in the formation of the earth there
was little oxygen present. That meant that elements that combine with oxygen, such as uranium and
magnesium, would have no where to go, but into the Earth s core. It is estimated that from this
process, about 64 percent of the earth s uranium actually sank to the Earth s center. If these elements
were abundant enough and were allowed to gather over a long period of time they would be able to
initiate their own self sustaining fission reactions.
Much of what is known about the Earth s nuclear core can be learned from logical, mathematical
reasoning. A great deal is understood about radioactive decay, and fission so with basic knowledge of
the elemental pieces of the theory it is not difficult to make accurate estimates and predictions about
the quantity, and commonality of these processes in the earth. Today the core of the Earth would be an
estimated five miles in diameter.

Disagreeing With Online Dating
What is one commonality that we can get people to agree with worldwide? This is the fact that the
idea and practice of dating is very difficult. Finding that special someone to share a life with is
something that many people dread because we are never more vulnerable then when we are trying to
date. Traditionally we would have to go through many rigorous and almost ritualistic steps when
trying to find a mate. We would have to put on our best outfit, go somewhere public, and interact with
strangers to try and impress them enough that they do not want to walk away within the first thirty
seconds of meeting you. Within todays society however the ideas of dating have changed. Because we
have become so reliant on technology to do many of our activities we have also adapted our methods
for dating. We can now search for the perfect partner on the internet. Dating online has ... Show more

Does My Island Have A Free Market Economy
I think that my island has a free market economy. The government controls very little of my island.
The production of products is based on supply and demand at that time. Also, we are not organized by
a certain authority, unlike a command economy. The people own the land and resources. Prices are set
by the seller, based on supply and demand, they go up and down naturally. There are no restrictions set
by the government on pricing and how much or too little to sell. The United States has a capitalist
economy. That means that trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit. My island has
a market economy. One similarity is that both economies have little or no control from the
government. Also,

Analyse the Dramatic Uses of the Chorus in Greek Tragedy;...
The full influence of Greek tragedy upon our modern theatre is incomprehensible, with the mainstays
of theatrical convention largely demonstrating roots within Greek tragedy. The choric function is just
one of these conventions. This essay hopes to explore various uses of the Chorus within Greek
tragedies by Aeschylus and Sophocles, and then to analyse how traits of a Greek Chorus, and the
choric function can be found within 20th Century Theatre. The Chorus in Greek tragedy was a large
group (it is suggested between 12 and 30) of people who sang or chanted songs and poems that helped
set the scene of the play, bring the audience up to date with the events preceding the play and inform
the audience of any political or social consequences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They explain, ‘Fear s a good gateman to stand guard of the passions (page 100).
For Sophocles the Chorus has yet again a more reduced role, as more actors are introduced into his
plays. The focus yet again turns towards dialogue between characters, and away from interaction
purely between actor and Chorus. The Sophoclean Chorus is not emotionally separate from the action,
it is involved emotively with the story being portrayed, and can show sympathy (and in contrast,
hatred) towards the events on the stage. In Sophocles Oedipus the King the Chorus function as
witnesses to the downfall of Oedipus from proud monarch to blind, helpless man. The Chorus first
speech to Oedipus describes the plague that has infected the city. As Oedipus insists he wants to find
the murderer of Laius, the Chorus suggest that he ask Teiresias (page 194). The Chorus here prompts
the actor to step further towards his impending fate. The Chorus also prove to be a calming influence,
trying to mediate between Teiresias, Oedipus, Creon and Jocasta at various points within the play.

On the night of October 3rd, 1974 at approximately 10:45 p.m. Edward Garner was shot by Officer
Hymon in an attempt to stop him from escaping a crime scene. Garner died on the operating table due
to the gunshot wound on the back of his head. His crime was burglary and he was found with a mere
ten dollars and a purse. The case was argued on October 30th, 1984 and a decision was made on
March 27th, 1985. The father of Edward Garner believed his son s constitutional rights were violated
by the defendants Officer Hymon, the Police Department, and the Mayor of the city of Memphis. With

The Book Of Revelation, The Final Book Of The Bible
The book of Revelation, the final book of the bible, is one of the most interesting and symbolic
readings for many. With an unknown author, apocalyptic foreshadowing, and obscure meanings, it has
been interpreted a number of different ways. Starting with the history, the symbolism, and ways to
interpret it, the aim of this paper is to give the reader a better understanding of the book. We know for
a fact that the book was written by John to the seven churches of Asia Minor I, John, your brother and
partner in the tribulation and kingdom and patience that are in Jesus, was on the island which is called
Patmos, because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. Revelations 1:9 10 There is
speculation that John was imprisoned on Patmos for the crime of not worshiping the Roman emperor.
It is a popular tradition for many to believe John the apostle to be the author of revelation, however
the writer of revelation never claimed to be an apostle. The literary form in this book is called
apocalyptic writing. This means that the book is not straight forward in delivering its message. The
actual message is concealed in symbols, numbers, and images. It is also considered a prophecy by
Catholics. This is stated in Revelation 1:3. Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of
this prophecy, and keep the things that are written therein; for the time is at hand. The purpose of the
letter was to contact the seven churches of Asia Minor, present day Turkey. It is

The large scale system of currents that carry large bodies of water globally throughout the world is a
major factor that has to be considered when the construction of an AUV is in effect. This enormous
system of currents is known as the global conveyor belt . Not only is the global conveyor belt a huge
importance to bear in mind, but also in which part of the global conveyor belt will the AUV be
exploring. The global conveyor belt is greatly affected by the thermocline layer of the ocean. The
thermocline layer of the ocean is between the deep water layer of the ocean and the mixed water layer,
which lies at the top of the sea near the surface. Based on which layer of the ocean the water is in can
induce many different properties such as temperature and density and can influence different
components of the global conveyor belt. Although the thermocline layer of the ocean is a huge
influence on the way the global conveyor belt flows, there are many other factors that contribute to the
natural movement of the large scale currents (University of Illinois, 2010, n.p.). This widespread
system of currents starts its cycle all the way up in the North Atlantic near the North Pole. In the
beginning of its cycle the water begins on the surface of the ocean and is low in temperature due to the
freezing conditions in the Northern

pay more attention to the environmental issues. One of the most concerned issues is global warming
which is mostly caused by the greenhouse gases emissions. Global warming will lead to long lasting
changes in our climate and may threaten people s health and welfare for current and future

large areas of farmland will be ruined because of floods.
Besides, the changes in the weather will do the damages to the various kinds of crops grown in
different parts of the world. Many plants, such as maize and sugarcane, do not grow in higher
temperature. Changes in the amount of rainfall will also harm many plants grow. This will lead to

their afro hair. Not only in my hometown, but nearly everywhere I have been to and even in the media.
I want to know why dyed straight hair is more common than dyed afro hair. Whether that must do
with the effects hair dye has to natural hair. Or the price and extended effort of taking care of dyed
hair. Or even the way hair trends are portrayed in the media and by celebrities When dyeing darker
hair, bleach is needed to lighten the color for the actual hair dye to color the hair. Bleach is harmful to
the hair as it causes dryness and breakage. Natural hair is usually dark and would need to be bleached
if it were going to be dyed, but the last thing it needs is more dryness. From experience, my type of
hair dries out easily and needs numerous other products to keep it moisturized. Hair dye is purely
chemical which might affect curl patterns and the overall look of the hair. Convenience stores don t

The patriotic symbol of the American dream has numerous times dissented from the ruling political
powers. Steve Rodgers lives the life of a patriot through and through, but it is important to understand
what it means to live patriotically. Captain America s patriotism doesn t hinge on blind passion of one
s country right or wrong or on the us versus them mentality produced during war times. These types of
patriotisms prevent the betterment of the world at large. These exclusionary patriotisms neglect the
dignity of other peoples and creates the illusion that anyone who thinks differently belongs to the them
party. Instead, Cap s patriotism lies of Stephen Nathanson s philosophic moderate patriotism, which
balances devotion to one s country with ethical demands to care for all (White 147). Captain America
embraces the shared humanity of people across national borders. He would strongly support
Nathanson s claim that so long as devotion to one s country do not lead to immoral actions, then
patriotism can be laudable. When concern for the own country blinds people to the legitimate needs
and interests of other nations, then patriotism becomes a vice (White147). Captain America believes
countries have the right to pursue its interest, but this should be done with consideration of other
nations and peoples and not at the cost of the countries principles. Captain America s cosmopolitan

However the anti knocking properties of diesel is measured by its cetane number. The cetane number
is the measurement of the anti knocking and the combustion quality of diesel. It is the equivalent of
octane number for gasoline. The average value of cetane number for a diesel fuel ranges from 42 to 45
but for premium diesel cetane number can be up to 60. Another important property of fuels is the
calorific value. The calorific value is the amount of heat or energy produced when the fuel is
combusted. Therefore the calorific value determines the output power produced by the fuel. It is either
measured as either gross calorific value or net calorific value. The most commonly method of
comparing calorific values of fuels is net calorific value. The net calorific value of gasoline is 44400
KJ/Kg. This means that 44400 kilojoules of energy is produced for every kilogram of fuel burnt. In
comparison, the calorific value of diesel is 43400 (Bureau of Energy efficiency, p.4). The calorific
value of diesel is lower than the calorific value of gasoline and hence gasoline has a higher output
power than diesel. The output power is one of the most important factors on which efficiency is
dependent. Hence it can be said that the efficiency if petrol is higher than that of diesel. Since early
20th century the popularity of electric vehicles have been raising. Electric cars were prevalent in early

Salinger s Nine Stories
Jerome David Salinger, one of the most renown authors of the twentieth century. Salinger s short
stories Nine Stories was written after the WWII from the perspective of the war veterans. He
successfully manages to create nine different short stories that all carry a theme of innocence.
Meanwhile, Salinger expresses both this theme and his mysterious style of writing. Innocence is
demonstrated in short stories, such as A Perfect Day for Bananafish , Uncle Wiggly in Connecticut ,
For Esmé with Love and Squalor . The appearance of children throughout the variety of short stories
supports this innocence of a theme. A Perfect Day for Bananafish is a fictional short story which
includes a few characters, but most importantly Seymour Glass

The Supreme Court, Which Does Overrule Its Precedent From
The Supreme Court, which does overrule its precedent from time to time, does not need to do a
lengthy analysis of each precedent s viability in every case. Rather, through its certiorari jurisdiction
(certiorari an order by which a higher court reviews a decision of a lower court), it selects cases and
issues that allow it to reconsider precedent on its own time. When the Court decides that a previous
decision may be in jeopardy, it often asks the parties to brief whether precedent should be overruled.4
The Court must still confront petitions questioning precedent, but it can dispose of these quickly and
without explanation if it so chooses through a simple denial of certiorari. This shows that horizontal
stare decisis is upheld in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In their opinions it stated In approaching this problem, we cannot turn the clock back to 1868 when
the Amendment was adopted, or even to 1896 when Plessy v. Ferguson was written. We must consider
public education in the light of its full development and its present place in American life throughout
the Nation. Only in this way can it be determined if segregation in public schools deprives these
plaintiffs of the equal protection of the laws. They never say they overturn or change their minds on a
decision. They simply state that even though at the time of Plessy v. Ferguson the idea of it was
theoretically possible to be separate but equal, but when it was enforced the outcome did not support
that.
Here are the main arguments for the opposing side. The Supreme Court views it as a non mandatory
judicial policy. Stare decisis has an effect on collegiality within the Supreme Court justices. Schauer s
studies indicate that stare decisis has a rare and weak influence on the Court and most Supreme Court
decisions have not taken their predecessors seriously.
One of the main opposing arguments is that The Supreme Court has viewed horizontal stare decisis as
a non mandatory judicial policy. Example: Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v.
Casey. The Court chose not to overturn Roe v. Wade 8 despite its conflicted feelings about the
decision. Horizontal stare decisis is not applied with equal vigor in all cases.

The Death Of The Funeral Business
Sandy Hingston offers many intriguing views of a funeral service from the conventional method of a
service in a church and the burial of the deceased to a service that more so relates to a party than a
funeral. The Death of the Funeral Business also raises many questions to be pondered by the reader.
Hingston says, A societal changeover from burial to cremation is momentous for our culture. It signals
a cataclysmic shift in how we think about our bodies and ourselves (38). The questions that arise from
this quote are what parallels may Hingston be trying to draw between the trend in cremation and the
way we think about our bodies and ourselves? Why may she be trying to develop these connections?
These are the questions I will be focusing on and how they relate to what I think the purpose of the
article is. I believe the purpose of this article is to show how our generation is changing the way we
view death and how the use of technology has greatly impacted the way funerals are done. The
question what parallels may Hingston be trying to draw between the trend in cremation and the way
we think about our bodies and ourselves is a pretty loaded one. The quote, the rise of cremation
dovetails neatly with the increase in those of us who have no religious affiliation (38) answers this
question nicely. Without religion, and a sense of my body matters traveling through people s heads,
people are going to realize that there isn t a point to being buried only to be

Activated Charcoal Case Summary
1. Signs of opiate toxidrome that this patient is exhibiting includes: hypothermia, bradycardia,
hypotension, bradypnea, hypoxia, miosis, and unresponsiveness.
2. Narcan, also known as naloxone hydrochloride, is a pure competitive opioid antagonist used in the
treatment of severe opioid toxicity. Naloxone s mechanism of action is to bind to all opioid receptors
including mu, kappa, and delta, and prevent the actions of opioid agonists resulting in reversal of life
threatening respiratory depression commonly caused by opioid overdose. This antagonist is most
potent at the mu receptor. Routes of administration include: intravenous, intramuscular, intranasal,
subcutaneous, endotracheal, inhalation, and intralingual.

Activated charcoal is the gastrointestinal decontamination technique that should be used in this patient
to help adsorb to any NSAID that hasn t been absorbed since a large amount was consumed.
2. Diagnostic tests that are indicated with NSAID ingestion include: chemistry panel which will
evaluate any kidney dysfunction and to determine the anion gap to calculate for any acidosis, hepatic
function tests to determine degree of liver inflammation, and a serum acetaminophen level. An EKG
should also be placed on the patient to evaluate for any co ingestants that may have affected the
cardiovascular system.
3. At this time the patient does not require intubation or mechanical ventilation since his respiratory
rate appears to be in the normal range of 12 25 breaths per minute and his oxygen saturation of 95% is
within the normal range of 95 100%.
4. Anion Gap = Na (Cl + HCO3) Anion Gap: 138 (103+16): 19 mEq/L. The anion gap reference range
is 8 16 mEq/L and is elevated in this patient. The increased anion gap indicates an increased amount of
unmeasured ions are present in the blood. This patient most likely has a wide anion gap acidosis, since
there is decreased bicarbonate on the chemistry panel, but the clinician would have to confirm by
ordering an arterial blood

Good Germs, Bad Germs
Many books that can be read will captivate you, can give you another world to live in, can sweep you
off of your feet and never set you back down again. Rarely can a book alter your view so entirely
about the world you live in, just by giving you more information about what exactly your world is
made up of. The book Good Germs, Bad Germs did this for me. Each chapter strategically broke
down the history of microbes and bacteria and how they have been perceived (or not perceived)
throughout history. Each expanding step lists the theories that were building blocks for the future of
the study of microbes. From Nurse Nightingale, Colonel George Waring, Antoni van Leeuwenhoek
and Bonnie Bassler there were medical advances that helped the field of medicine greatly. Even
groups who did not believe in the germs made large steps to clean up the population. Each person
mentioned in the book had some sort of contribution to the start of fighting against bacteria and
viruses, with Nurse Nightingale disinfecting the work area, Waring started cleaning up the streets and
created the way to keep sewage separate from the drinking water and Leeuwenhoek who identified
bacteria in the first place. This entire book gives as much information as possible without the reader
needing a medical degree. It gave an in depth look at the formation and the ability of bacteria to live
within the body and outside the body and how the body actually collects the bacteria. From attaining
bacteria from the

Descriptive Essay About Trail Riding
Do you ever have a dream where you re falling, and it feels so real that your body wakes you up? Well
this was not a dream. I was falling, and there was no bed for me to wake up in.
Growing up I was always around horses. My mom got into horses as a teenager, and they never left
her heart. The minute I was born I was put up in the saddle. Where most families would bond by going
swimming, hiking, or to watch a movie, my family bonded by going horseback riding. (Or as we call
it, trail riding.) The first horse I remember riding was a beautiful mare (girl horse) named Angel. She
was a sweet old white quarter horse who took care of everyone who rode her. I went on many trail
rides with her and when she passed away I learned at the early age of six that people s deaths aren t
the only deaths we morn. Eventually I moved on and started riding a new horse whose name was
Tanka.
Tanka was a stubborn and sassy sorrel mare. I really didn t ride her on my own because she probably
would ve taken advantage of me being a beginner. Since I couldn t ride her on my own my sister Lisa
usually rode along on Tanka while I sat behind the saddle, holding on to the edge of it for dear life.
One cloudy mid September day my mom decided we should go on a trail ride. Since we didn t have
enough horses for everyone who wanted to come on the ride, my mom came up with a plan.
She planned that me, Lisa, and my mom s friend Lori should ride down the road to meet my mom and
her other friends at their house

Difference Between Social Media And Media
Gurung3
Karma Chheten Gurung Professor Sharifian Govt 2305 71013 10/25/2017 Social Media and the USA
Presidency As we all know that social media has been one of the best source for proper means of
communication, people have been using it to communicate with each other, and not only that but they
are posting various things on social media as well. 1 Twitter and Facebook are one of the most popular
social media which are used by most of the people. It has been widely popular that even celebrities
and politician uses them on a regular basis. The only difference between normal people using a social
media and celebrities or politician using a social media is that the politician or celebrities have to be
more careful while posting their thoughts. They are the famous people in the society and are followed
by most people. Their posts are been looked upon by thousands of people and are criticized as well. If
one s post something that is very unacceptable or offending than his/her reputation is going to fall way
beyond the line. As they are represented as the successful person in the society, they have to be very
careful on taking every steps in their life because people will be watching them every time trying to
make a headline. Same goes to the elected leaders because we have seen them being active on social
media where they are talking about different topics and posting about it.
I think that the social media is a great platform for the politicians to communicate with the citizens

Essay about Online Education Versus Traditional Education
With high speed internet available to potential students of all economic levels, schools are opting to
implement online classes into their traditional teaching curriculum. As a result, our society is divided
in two different ways of thinking on the education. Some believe the modern method is better than the
traditional method of teaching. Personally, I believe both methods should balance one another instead
of attempting to substitute one another; this way their purpose of educating will be far more
successful.
Online education, also called long distant learning, can be defined as a new method of learning
through a computer network. This modern way of teaching gives students an opportunity to take
classes online. Bill Gates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Barbara Means, the study s lead author and an educational psychologist at SRI
International, online education ultimate goal, is to provide learning experiences that are more tailored
to individual students than is possible in classrooms. That enables more learning by doing, which
many students find more engaging and useful.
However, advocates of classroom learning believe the online method isolates the students from one
another as well as their professor minimizing the overall value of taking the course. They also claim
that students learn better when working together with their instructor and their fellow classmates.
Students learn better when they are given the opportunity to ask questions, join in class discussions,
and they move the process of learning forward through their participation. Face to face advocates
firmly believe that this kind of interaction is not possible over the Internet; and for many types of
education, e learning will never meet the potential of live human interaction in the classroom. An
article in the New York Times titled, Second Thoughts on Online Education, backs up the points made
above. A recent research published by the National Bureau of Economic Research, comes to the
conclusion; A rush to online education

One important reason for studying and analyzing any literary work is to come up with its meaning
(message) and to get a literary competence. Therefore, in order to comprehend the meaning any
literary work thematic analysis is important.
Theme is the central idea or meaning of the story. According to Melakneh Mengistu (2006:62), theme
is a preoccupation and broad idea in story and message the author is conveying . This show that
themes is message what the author intended to transfer to the readers from broad concept.
Novel, as part of literature, it can express religion, history, and politics of a given society. According
toCastel s English Dictionary, novel is a fictionist narrative in prose usually of sufficient length to fill
a volume, portraying characters and situations from real life. From this question, we can understand
that novel expresses the life situation of community which is in pros e form and through characters
.Further more, as Chamber sTwentieth century dictionary, novel is a fictious prose narrative or tale
presenting a picture real life especially of the emotional crisis in the life history of men and women
portrayed .This indicates that by using fiction , novel can reflect what really exist in the society
concerning the life story of both women and men.
There are many types of novel like pastoriala novel, epistolary novel, horror novel

The Missouri Supreme Court Has Interpreted
The Missouri Supreme Court has interpreted highway to apply to any roads where the public is
accustomed to travel. Covert, S.W.3d at 75. The Missouri courts will look at the following factors to
determine if a road is a highway: its (1) accessibility by (a) emergency vehicles, (b) delivery vehicles,
and (c) members of the public; (2) its regulation, Id. at 74,75; (3) maintenance of the road, and (4) its
usage for travel and as a thoroughfare, State v. Gittemeier, 400 S.W.3d 838, 844 (Mo. Ct. App. E.D.
2013). Furthermore, the courts have determined that a privately maintained road may still be
considered a highway if it is still accessible to the public. Covert, S.W.3d at 77.
In Covert, the court concluded that the defendant was on a highway. Id. In Covert, the police patrolled
the subdivision. Id. at 73. It can be inferred that the court reasoned that police patrolling of the area
was important because police enforce public rules. Id. at 75. Mail delivery services delivered

having access was important because it shows that the streets where intended to be utilized by
businesses. Id. at 75. Members of the public could freely drive onto the roads as desired. Id. at 73. The
court reasoned that access by the public was important because it shows that the streets were intended

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Public Education From a historical perspective, compulsory public education is a relatively new concept. Prior to establishing public schools, education was reserved for the privileged elite thought to have an innate predisposition for learning. (Office of Education, 1965; Hazlet, 2011, Iorio, 2011, p3, Comer, 1996) Consensus is difficult to achieve within a large and diverse population. Early colonial America was comprised of a variety of cultures and religions. Agreement on the importance of a strong moral education did not equate to agreement on the delivery system. Much of early moral education occurred in the home with the mother serving as the teacher. (McClellan, 29) Not convinced the home environment was ideal due to variations in parenting styles, and in an effort to assure uniform and appropriate moral education, public schools were established (McClellan, 30, Hazlet, 2011 p1). Agreement about the role and goals of public education was not forthcoming. The main challenge was to create non denominational moral education allowing Sunday school to fill in the gaps for specific denominational doctrine (McClellan, 29). In his 1749 writing Proposals Relating To The Education Of Youth In Pennsylvania , when speaking of establishing educational institutions for the youth of America, Benjamin Franklin wrote: For though the American Youth are allow d not to want Capacity; yet the best Capacities require Cultivation, it being truly with them, as with the best Ground, which unless well ... The article speaks about the well organized method for detecting, classifying and tracing non functional software requirements these are known as (NFRs). The exploration of this article is centred on the main expectations that NFRs tend to be indirectly enforced by the software systems functional requirements. This procedure is alluded to as fundamentals prioritization. Even though a lot of research has been committed to proposing different ways to deal with and play out the fundamentals prioritization, just few prioritization approaches have been as of late announced with the point of considering both practical and non utilitarian requirements amongst prioritization organise. From the article it tells us that the writers and authors have performed two progressive controlled investigations with the point of assessing the present fundamentals prioritization approaches. In the primary investigation they looked at the incorporated prioritization approach (IPA) with the other approach called AHP based approach and within the second investigation IPA was contrasted and the other cutting edge elective named HAM based approach. Introduction For many, Oscar Wilde is seen as a prominent literary figure, known for his novel The Picture of Dorian Grey and plays such as The Importance of Being Earnest. However, Wilde s literary contributions make up only a small fraction of his complex life. Wilde s life consisted not just of artistry and literary genius but passion, scrutiny and scandal as well. The drama and passion of his narratives mirrored that of the life he lived; characters hid their true identities and struggled with their image, just as Wilde did throughout his life. One of the struggles faced by Wilde was that of his sexuality the the scrutiny he faced because of it. While Wilde s exact sexuality has been debated over the years, it is a well known fact that ... Although it is seen by many historians as a time of expansion, technological revolution, and cultural shifts, it can also be viewed as one consisting of immense prejudices in an attempt to cling to traditional values and norms. This can be seen in the vastly different views towards men and women which presented themselves during this time. Although the term Interplanetary Theory of Gender is a fairly new one, the effects of that mindset can be seen throughout history, seen most especially in the Victorian Era. During this era, the sexes were not only viewed as vastly different, but were often times viewed as different species altogether. According to Kathryn Hughes, the Victorian Era divided the sexes more than any other era up until that point in history. Although many women had begun the fight for their rights, gender inequity permeated all aspects of British life (Marsh). Women were defined by the domestic life, many times barred from receiving an education or any legal rights. The misogyny that limited women was one that was instilled at birth, allowing the idea that women should be viewed lesser than men as unquestionable and and permanent fact in society s eyes. Her writing aims to examine and promote women s interests, as well as help women of various backgrounds identify with one another through their commonality of systemic oppression and their desire for basic human rights. In Lorde s words, I am defined as other in every group I m part of . This phrase is a product of our society s notion that to be different means one can not associate oneself with any given group unless they fit wholly into that and nothing else. As Lorde puts it, It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences. Lorde was known to have criticized some feminists during the 1960s for focusing on the specific experiences of white middle class women rather than women as a diverse group. Through her work, she has observed that black women s experiences are often vastly different from those of white women, and because being a white woman is considered normal, black women are often marginalized and cast out of the woman identity . Chartists usually either tried using petitions, some of over 3 million signatures, or strikes, which were usually very peaceful, to try and get what they wanted. The Chartists ultimately failed to pass the People s Charter through Parliament. After 1848, many people began losing interest in the movement, so it began to rapidly decline. The San Joaquin Valley is bounded by mountains on the east, west and south and to the north flow the Kern and San Joaquin rivers into the ocean. The climate in the valley is hot with dry mild summers, semiarid winters and very minimal precipitation. Originally, the area was rich in a network of rivers, streams, lakes and sloughs fed by waters from Sierra Nevada to the east and it is very productive and rich in resources such as food, wood for construction, firewood and manufacturing tools. After these rivers and streams were diverted for agricultural purposes, the valley dried up and became a vast area of farmland. There is substantial reason to believe that the center of the Earth is a massive nuclear reactor derived from empirical data observed in the earth, and logical evidence to prove that the theory is true. The theory started when geologists in the fifties began whether natural occurring nuclear fission was possible. Eventually, empirical evidence presented itself. Uranium is the heaviest naturally occurring element on Earth and it is common in fission reactions. Early in the Earth s formation, numerous elemental changes were taking place. Some elements would combine with other elements to become stable. In the case of the newly formed Earth, many elements looked for oxygen to become stable. However, early in the formation of the earth there was little oxygen present. That meant that elements that combine with oxygen, such as uranium and magnesium, would have no where to go, but into the Earth s core. It is estimated that from this process, about 64 percent of the earth s uranium actually sank to the Earth s center. If these elements were abundant enough and were allowed to gather over a long period of time they would be able to initiate their own self sustaining fission reactions. Much of what is known about the Earth s nuclear core can be learned from logical, mathematical reasoning. A great deal is understood about radioactive decay, and fission so with basic knowledge of the elemental pieces of the theory it is not difficult to make accurate estimates and predictions about the quantity, and commonality of these processes in the earth. Finding that special someone to share a life with is something that many people dread because we are never more vulnerable then when we are trying to date. Traditionally we would have to go through many rigorous and almost ritualistic steps when trying to find a mate. • 22. Analyse the Dramatic Uses of the Chorus in Greek Tragedy;... The full influence of Greek tragedy upon our modern theatre is incomprehensible, with the mainstays of theatrical convention largely demonstrating roots within Greek tragedy. The choric function is just one of these conventions. This essay hopes to explore various uses of the Chorus within Greek tragedies by Aeschylus and Sophocles, and then to analyse how traits of a Greek Chorus, and the choric function can be found within 20th Century Theatre. The Chorus in Greek tragedy was a large group (it is suggested between 12 and 30) of people who sang or chanted songs and poems that helped set the scene of the play, bring the audience up to date with the events preceding the play and inform the audience of any political or social consequences ... For Sophocles the Chorus has yet again a more reduced role, as more actors are introduced into his plays. The focus yet again turns towards dialogue between characters, and away from interaction purely between actor and Chorus. The Sophoclean Chorus is not emotionally separate from the action, it is involved emotively with the story being portrayed, and can show sympathy (and in contrast, hatred) towards the events on the stage. In Sophocles Oedipus the King the Chorus function as witnesses to the downfall of Oedipus from proud monarch to blind, helpless man. The Chorus first speech to Oedipus describes the plague that has infected the city. As Oedipus insists he wants to find the murderer of Laius, the Chorus suggest that he ask Teiresias (page 194). The Chorus here prompts the actor to step further towards his impending fate. The Chorus also prove to be a calming influence, trying to mediate between Teiresias, Oedipus, Creon and Jocasta at various points within the play. They also are still optimistic when the truth is nearly out, telling Oedipus to, ‘hope, until you hear from the man who saw what happened (page 216). The Chorus within ... With an unknown author, apocalyptic foreshadowing, and obscure meanings, it has been interpreted a number of different ways. Starting with the history, the symbolism, and ways to interpret it, the aim of this paper is to give the reader a better understanding of the book. We know for a fact that the book was written by John to the seven churches of Asia Minor I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and kingdom and patience that are in Jesus, was on the island which is called Patmos, because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. Revelations 1:9 10 There is speculation that John was imprisoned on Patmos for the crime of not worshiping the Roman emperor. It is a popular tradition for many to believe John the apostle to be the author of revelation, however the writer of revelation never claimed to be an apostle. The literary form in this book is called apocalyptic writing. This means that the book is not straight forward in delivering its message. The actual message is concealed in symbols, numbers, and images. It is also considered a prophecy by Catholics. This is stated in Revelation 1:3. The large scale system of currents that carry large bodies of water globally throughout the world is a major factor that has to be considered when the construction of an AUV is in effect. This enormous system of currents is known as the global conveyor belt . Not only is the global conveyor belt a huge importance to bear in mind, but also in which part of the global conveyor belt will the AUV be exploring. The global conveyor belt is greatly affected by the thermocline layer of the ocean. The thermocline layer of the ocean is between the deep water layer of the ocean and the mixed water layer, which lies at the top of the sea near the surface. Based on which layer of the ocean the water is in can induce many different properties such as temperature and density and can influence different components of the global conveyor belt. Although the thermocline layer of the ocean is a huge influence on the way the global conveyor belt flows, there are many other factors that contribute to the natural movement of the large scale currents (University of Illinois, 2010, n.p.). This widespread system of currents starts its cycle all the way up in the North Atlantic near the North Pole. However the anti knocking properties of diesel is measured by its cetane number. The cetane number is the measurement of the anti knocking and the combustion quality of diesel. It is the equivalent of octane number for gasoline. The average value of cetane number for a diesel fuel ranges from 42 to 45 but for premium diesel cetane number can be up to 60. Another important property of fuels is the calorific value. The calorific value is the amount of heat or energy produced when the fuel is combusted. Therefore the calorific value determines the output power produced by the fuel. It is either measured as either gross calorific value or net calorific value. The most commonly method of comparing calorific values of fuels is net calorific value. The net calorific value of gasoline is 44400 KJ/Kg. This means that 44400 kilojoules of energy is produced for every kilogram of fuel burnt. In comparison, the calorific value of diesel is 43400 (Bureau of Energy efficiency, p.4). The calorific value of diesel is lower than the calorific value of gasoline and hence gasoline has a higher output power than diesel. The output power is one of the most important factors on which efficiency is dependent. Hence it can be said that the efficiency if petrol is higher than that of diesel. When the Court decides that a previous decision may be in jeopardy, it often asks the parties to brief whether precedent should be overruled.4 The Court must still confront petitions questioning precedent, but it can dispose of these quickly and without explanation if it so chooses through a simple denial of certiorari. • 42. The Death Of The Funeral Business Sandy Hingston offers many intriguing views of a funeral service from the conventional method of a service in a church and the burial of the deceased to a service that more so relates to a party than a funeral. The Death of the Funeral Business also raises many questions to be pondered by the reader. Hingston says, A societal changeover from burial to cremation is momentous for our culture. It signals a cataclysmic shift in how we think about our bodies and ourselves (38). The questions that arise from this quote are what parallels may Hingston be trying to draw between the trend in cremation and the way we think about our bodies and ourselves? Why may she be trying to develop these connections? These are the questions I will be focusing on and how they relate to what I think the purpose of the article is. I believe the purpose of this article is to show how our generation is changing the way we view death and how the use of technology has greatly impacted the way funerals are done. The question what parallels may Hingston be trying to draw between the trend in cremation and the way we think about our bodies and ourselves is a pretty loaded one. The quote, the rise of cremation dovetails neatly with the increase in those of us who have no religious affiliation (38) answers this question nicely. Without religion, and a sense of my body matters traveling through people s heads, people are going to realize that there isn t a point to being buried only to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Good Germs, Bad Germs Many books that can be read will captivate you, can give you another world to live in, can sweep you off of your feet and never set you back down again. Rarely can a book alter your view so entirely about the world you live in, just by giving you more information about what exactly your world is made up of. The book Good Germs, Bad Germs did this for me. Each chapter strategically broke down the history of microbes and bacteria and how they have been perceived (or not perceived) throughout history. Each expanding step lists the theories that were building blocks for the future of the study of microbes. From Nurse Nightingale, Colonel George Waring, Antoni van Leeuwenhoek and Bonnie Bassler there were medical advances that helped the field of medicine greatly. Even groups who did not believe in the germs made large steps to clean up the population. Each person mentioned in the book had some sort of contribution to the start of fighting against bacteria and viruses, with Nurse Nightingale disinfecting the work area, Waring started cleaning up the streets and created the way to keep sewage separate from the drinking water and Leeuwenhoek who identified bacteria in the first place. This entire book gives as much information as possible without the reader needing a medical degree. It gave an in depth look at the formation and the ability of bacteria to live within the body and outside the body and how the body actually collects the bacteria. From attaining bacteria from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Descriptive Essay About Trail Riding Do you ever have a dream where you re falling, and it feels so real that your body wakes you up? Well this was not a dream. I was falling, and there was no bed for me to wake up in. Growing up I was always around horses. My mom got into horses as a teenager, and they never left her heart. The minute I was born I was put up in the saddle. Where most families would bond by going swimming, hiking, or to watch a movie, my family bonded by going horseback riding. (Or as we call it, trail riding.) The first horse I remember riding was a beautiful mare (girl horse) named Angel. She was a sweet old white quarter horse who took care of everyone who rode her. I went on many trail rides with her and when she passed away I learned at the early age of six that people s deaths aren t the only deaths we morn. Eventually I moved on and started riding a new horse whose name was Tanka. Tanka was a stubborn and sassy sorrel mare. I really didn t ride her on my own because she probably would ve taken advantage of me being a beginner. Since I couldn t ride her on my own my sister Lisa usually rode along on Tanka while I sat behind the saddle, holding on to the edge of it for dear life. One cloudy mid September day my mom decided we should go on a trail ride. Since we didn t have enough horses for everyone who wanted to come on the ride, my mom came up with a plan. She planned that me, Lisa, and my mom s friend Lori should ride down the road to meet my mom and her other friends at their house ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay about Online Education Versus Traditional Education With high speed internet available to potential students of all economic levels, schools are opting to implement online classes into their traditional teaching curriculum. As a result, our society is divided in two different ways of thinking on the education. Some believe the modern method is better than the traditional method of teaching. Personally, I believe both methods should balance one another instead of attempting to substitute one another; this way their purpose of educating will be far more successful. According to Barbara Means, the study s lead author and an educational psychologist at SRI International, online education ultimate goal, is to provide learning experiences that are more tailored to individual students than is possible in classrooms. That enables more learning by doing, which many students find more engaging and useful. However, advocates of classroom learning believe the online method isolates the students from one another as well as their professor minimizing the overall value of taking the course. They also claim that students learn better when working together with their instructor and their fellow classmates. Students learn better when they are given the opportunity to ask questions, join in class discussions, and they move the process of learning forward through their participation. Face to face advocates firmly believe that this kind of interaction is not possible over the Internet; and for many types of education, e learning will never meet the potential of live human interaction in the classroom.
