Crisis management; BP
Introduction
When an organization is in a crisis, it dominates the organization s agenda and requires immediate
action. The way the organization responds to a crisis can differ in many ways. In this essay I would
like to discuss the crisis of the British concern British Petroleum (BP). At first I would like to provide
more information about the crisis and its consequences, then I will identify the kind of crisis we have
to deal with, I will discuss the several communication strategies BP have used, I will explain the
different reactions of the public on the crisis. At last, I will give the oil concern some advice, in case a
reoccurrence takes place.

BP made mistake after mistake and it seems like Tony Hayward did not attend any media training.
It is almost impossible to deny that a lot of things went wrong in the communication concerning the
explosion of the platform and the following oil spill of the British oil concern BP. In the first instance,
BP denied there was oil leaking out of the oil well. After that BP trivialized the consequences of the
ecocatastrophe. Even the CEO Tony Hayward made some dull statements. What did BP do wrong?
BP made a big mistake right after the explosion. They were not open and honest about the situation.
First they denied the oil spill. When it became clear that there was definitely an oil spill, BP denied
there would be any consequences for the environment and trivialized the situation later on. The Gulf
of Mexico is a very big ocean. The amount of volume of oil and dispersant we are putting into it is
tiny in relation to the total water volume said top executive Hayward, while scientists, biologists and
satellite images proved the opposite. The photo shopped images of the crisis did little good for the oil
concern.
In the first weeks of the crisis BP used two Nonexistence strategies . BP used the denial strategy which
means that they gave a simple statement denying that the crisis existed. After the denial strategy BP
used the clarification strategy . This strategy was an

Open Learner Model As A Tool For Self Regulated Learning
Open Learner Model as a Tool for Self regulated Learning
Research Question
An Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) is a computer assisted instructional system designed using
artificial intelligence to simulate a human tutor and customize instruction. Traditionally ITS had a
three component architecture: domain model, student model, and tutoring model (Self, 1990). Later, a
fourth component, user interface, was added, and now ITS is commonly known to have a four
component architecture. Domain model is the source of expert knowledge that can be used as a
standard to evaluate learner performance or to detect errors (Nkambou, Bourdeau, and Mizoguchi,
2010). Student model, the central component of an ITS, contains knowledge about the students ...

As the underlying modeling technology is used not only to inform the system of students learning but
also to reveal it to students for inspection, a key challenge for an OLM is to create an effective user
interface for presenting the model and supporting interaction (Bull and Kay, 2011).
Methods
The first round of search was done in SpringerLink using the expression ( open learn* model ) AND
(self regulated learn*) AND (Intelligent tutor*), the returned number of unique hits is 390. 25 articles
are selected for close reading. From the 25 articles, bibliographical search will be done for more
relevant articles. The criteria for including the articles are:
1. The article should be peer reviewed.
2. The article should deal in a substantial way with Open Learner Model or Self regulated Learning, or
both.
3. The paper can be a basic research, a review or an empirical study.
Self regulated Learning
Self regulation refers to the process of planning and cyclically adapting self generated thoughts,
feelings, and actions to the attainment of personal goals (Zimmerman, 2000). Pintrich and Zusho
(2002) defined self regulated learning as an active constructive process whereby learners set goals for
their learning and monitor, regulate, and control their cognition, motivation, and behaviour, guided
and constrained by their goals and the contextual features of the

Active Learning At The Heart Of Mathematics
ACTIVE LEARNING in practice for Processes in Mathematics in the Primary School. Frank Quinn
Module MCS 3017 8th December 2014 Cockcroft (1982) states that problem solving ability lies at the
heart of mathematics (p.73). The report also identifies in Para 243 the importance of offering the
opportunity to pupils to engage in problem solving including the application to everyday situations.
This has been further promoted through the importance of the Cross Curricular Skills of the Revised
Northern Ireland Curriculum which promotes using mathematics, using communication and using
information and communications technologies (uICT). The curriculum experience also requires the
development of each pupil in the domains of thinking skills and ... Show more content on

Problem solving stems from a constructivist approach where the children are required to construct and
contextualise their learning around different experiences rather than simply absorb the knowledge and
move onto the next topic. The majority of problems have more than one way of achieving the solution
so therefore they can be approached in a variety of ways. Due to the freedom of approach, problems
can be attempted individually or through peer learning. This active learning approach can make the
learning, and the teaching, more enjoyable, whilst create an environment for greater cross curricular
learning and understanding whilst promoting a positive attitude toward numeracy and creativity.
Problem solving in mathematics provides a window for the teacher to obtain a view of the child s
understanding of concepts within mathematics as they move through the childhood concept
development sequence (Charlesworth et al, 2011). The assessment of this information can be gained
through observing the child or using effective questions to draw out the child s cognitive creative
thinking as they develop the solutions for the problem. In the Foundation stage, children discover
problems through play based activities, for example, they use non standard units of measurement such
as blocks or Lego, to build a desired construct, thus they learn how to recognise and use informal
measurement. As the child grows and develops they

The Men Behind the Scences of the Civil Rights Era Essay...
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for millions of Americans is an iconic portrayal when discussing civil
rights and American democracy. His determination to change segregation through creative and savvy
ways to reach the public led to his stardom. However, there were many others who helped during the
civil rights era who do not get nearly as much praise as MLK Jr. Medgar Evers, James Meredith, A
Philip Randolph, Jesse Jackson are a few gentlemen that rarely received the magnitude of media
focus, popularity or scrutiny that the most charismatic civil rights leaders attracted. Instead they
played different positions either, making telephone calls, visiting numerous homes, organizing
community meetings and rallies. They tried building a large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Both parents preached to their children about the importance of self reliance, pride, and self respect,
values directly contradicting the customary values that African Americans were expected to assume

white men in a dispute an had managed to avoid white retaliation by escaping from town (Evers

his children: My family will be able to walk on the sidewalk. Whites will treat them with dignity. They
will be able to register to vote. There was a great emphasize on never being apologetic or ashamed of
being black. No matter the circumstance they should never deny their African American heritage and
culture. These lessons played a pivotal role on young Medgar and influenced the foundation for what
he would soon emerge into as a young adult. Medgar had a great bond with his older brother Charles.
They both were educated in segregated public schools in Decatur and Newton, Mississippi. Medgar
and Charles resented the fact that they had to walk to school while the white children were transported

The Low mass stars spend there main life as a fusion machine which turns hydrogen into helium and a
very slow and methodical pace. When the energy released by this fusion reaches the surface it is
released into space and this is the star luminosity. Over a long, long time sometimes billions of years a
low mass star consumes the hydrogen in its core and converts it to helium, at which point the core
starts to contract and shrink. Once all of the hydrogen inside the stars core begins to become totally
exhausted, the core pressure gives way to the crush of gravity because it has no more fusion occurring
in its core at that time. As the core shrinks rapidly and the outer layers start to expand the stars shape
begins to grow in size and its luminosity becomes extraordinary brighter due to the outer shell starting
to produce fusion more rapidly then the core did during the main sequence life of the star. As this
situation grows more rapidly and extreme the core starts to rapidly burn again and fuse its core helium
into carbon. Then just before its final death the star ejects its outer layers into space. This leaves only
the degenerate carbon core and since this core is still very hot it emits intensely powerful ultraviolet
radiation and glows brightly in what is known as a planetary nebula. The nebula fades and cools over
around a million or so years and we are left with a white dwarf cooling indefinitely till

Male Dominance In The Catbird Seat
Throughout history, it is of no surprise that men dominate in a majority of environments. Though
women made a movement to gain social and political rights during the nineteenth century, it was not
entirely successful. Women have begun to gain a larger percentage of the workforce yet men continue
to uphold dominance. In the short story The Catbird Seat , James Thurber write about how men have a
known superiority over women in the workplace by describing the relationship between Mr. Fitweiler
and Mrs. Barrows. The first time during the short story that Mr. Fitweiler has shown superiority over
Mrs. Barrows is at a party when the two originally meet. Mrs. Barrows took Mr. Fitweiler away from
the numerous men he was in conversation with. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fitweiler s superiority is shown over Mrs. Barrows is when he requests very little information from
Mr. Martin about the accusations against himself. Mrs. Barrows stormed into Mr. Fitweiler s office the
morning after Mr. Martin arrived at Mrs. Barrows home. Mrs. Barrows warned Mr. Fitweiler of the
things Mr. Martin had threatened the night before, but it was of no avail because Mr. Fitweiler had to
protect himself, not Mrs. Barrows. Mr. Fitweiler was incredibly worried that the affair would become
known; he had to do whatever possible to keep this from being revealed. The head of the filing
department, neat, quiet, attentive, stood in front of the old man s desk. Mr. Fitweiler was pale and
nervous. (5). This quote shows how concerned Mr. Fitweiler truly was about anyone discovering his
relationship with Mrs. Barrows. When Mr. Fitweiler brings Mr. Martin in his office to inform him on
what Mrs. Barrows had just accused him of, Mr. Fitweiler asks for very little information and a
minuscule amount of details to support his alibi. Mr. Martin did not lie when telling of his night, he
simply left of the most crucial events. Mr. Martin left out events that would have aided in Mrs.
Barrows being rescued of being made a complete fool of. Mr. Fitweiler is also much more
compassionate when talking with Mr. Martin as compared to Mrs. Barrows. When Mrs. Barrows
walked into her boss office, immediately the room was filled with shouting that could be

the chrysanthemums Essay
The Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck
The short story The Chrysanthemums shows how extraordinarily forward thinking the author, John
Steinbeck, was in his understanding of the pressures that women dealt with in his time. Through the
exploration and illustration of women s emotions, Steinbeck gives us a view into the struggle of
women in the early 20th century to find a place for themselves in society as well as establishing their
own sexuality(Charters, 502).
The story starts out with the description of a grey fog over the place where the story is set. The
significance of this is to set the mood of the story. It also is a possible representation of how the main

The world that she lives in is a man s world, and her husband is a man s man and this is illustrated in
his actions when talking to the men in suits They smoked cigarettes and studied the machine as they
talked . This idea of it being a man s world is a recurring theme in the story, another example of which
is Henry s attitude towards Elisa and the way he talks to her, like he is talking to someone beneath him
I ll get out the car. You can put on your coat while I m starting (The Chrysanthemums, 6).
Steinbeck gives us a clear understanding that Elisa isn t very happy with her position in life, this is
obvious when talking to the repairman, she says I wish women could do such things symbolizing her
discontent with not just her role but women s roles in society. And the fact that she argued over the
fact that women wouldn t like the repairman s work shows that she is willing to stand up for herself
and her beliefs. When Elisa is talking to the man about what it feels like when the plants bud, and tells
him about the stars and then when she reached out for his leg, and then was ashamed, this is her way
for expressing her sexual frustration. The fact that she felt ashamed shows that she saw sex and
anything of relation to it as a sin, even though it is something that she wanted. This is marked by the
fact that after the repairman left she

The Invention Of The Cotton Gin By Eli Whitney
During the colonial era, African slaves faced a life of struggle and fear. In 1793, the invention of the
cotton gin by Eli Whitney revolutionized economy as well as American slavery. This new machinery
enabled the separation of the seeds from the cotton, making the cotton production increase extremely.
However, with the increase of the white gold ( as it was called), there was a consequent increase on
the request of slave labor. Therefore, slaves worked long hours on the fields, while many women
slaves were confined to house duties, taking care of the masters family and home. Sadly, these women
didn t just work exhausting hours, but also suffered physical and sexual abuse by the hands of their
masters. Undoubtedly, African women were not just used for labor, but they were also used to satisfy
the sick fantasies of cruel men. In Colonial America, around the year 1619 in Point Comfort (now Fort
Monroe), Virginia, took place the first African slave sale. Ironically, it was John Rolfe, husband of
Pocahontas, who recorded the very first sale of West African people at Point Comfort, suggesting the
interesting ways in which diverse cultural narratives converge on this point (Barnett 607). The slave
trade was handled mostly by the Royal African Company, which brought a large number of Africans
to the American colonies. Such trade held a very important role for Britain because of the economic
benefits that derived from the collection of taxes on the slaves. Colonies, like South

Susan Beth Pfeffer in Ashes, Unless there s an earthquake or Martians invade. I think we can gamble

Reflection About Hunger
You ask me what is hunger? Listen to me. Here I am, famished, empty, and with every little feature of
my bones exposed and the rumbling of my stomach near you. I will tell you. Hear me out. This is not
a joke, nor a pleasant position to be in. Yet, when you think of hunger, you say to yourself, Oh yes, I
ve been hungry before. I ve missed breakfast. Then, my stomach starts to growl, big deal. No, you
have it wrong. Put yourself in my shoes where I desire just a morsel of food in the dumpster in the
alley.
Hunger is being thankful for the hamburger meal someone cheerfully gave to you. With my stomach
aching for a meal, an individual dressed in modesty spots me out from the busy crowd. My clothes
were covered in muck from laying on the grease smudged concrete from that night; however, that
individual approaches me with charm and politely asked how was my day. I told them I was doing
fine, but a meal right now would be great. The individual hands me their lunch they were going to
have for work and wishes me a great day. I looked at the bag like a child being loose in a candy store.
With glee, I opened the McDonald s bag and pulled out a Big Mac meal. I consume each bite
viciously, leaving no crumbs like it was my last time eating. I cried with gladness because I hope I can
thank that person again one day. It was my first meal since three days ago. Hunger is dumpster diving
in the alley behind a restaurant. It was a daily routine for me, and I must quickly get it before

Dulce Et Decorum Est Similes
Wilfred Edward Salter Owen, author of Dulce et Decorum Est, was born on March 18, 1893 in the
city of Oswestry in the United Kingdom and died on November 4, 1918 at Sambre Oise Canal in
France (Wilfred). Between those years he was a soldier in the Trench War, otherwise known as the
first World War. He was one of the leading poets along with John McCrae. His poem Dulce et
Decorum Est was posthumously in a 1920 book called Poems (Wilfred). The title is in Latin and was
taken from the Roman poet Horace. The phrase translates into it is sweet and honorable... The phrase
also appears at the end of the poem followed by pro patria mori, which means to die for one s country
(Wilfred). Dulce et Decorum Est is essentially about a young soldier watching his comrade die in the
trenches, during a gas attack from the enemy during World War I. In Dulce et Decorum Est, Wilfred
Owen uses gruesome imagery and degrading and dark similes throughout his poem to show readers ...

The first simile compares the soldiers to beggars, or the homeless, which already creates a dark tone
about the soldiers. Owen states, Bent double, like old beggars under sacks (Owen line 1). The soldiers
are bent down in the trenches and compared to being like beggars under sacks (1). The soldiers are
harshly deprived of their dignity and health like the homeless who resort to begging for a living. The
second simile compares the soldiers to ugly, old women. Owen writes, Knock kneed, coughing like
hags, we cursed through sludge (2). The men who went into battle were, for the most part, young and
straight out of high school, yet after the war they looked old and ugly like hags. With this sentence,
Owen implies that the soldiers have health conditions that the readers back at home would never have
imagined to be so horrid. The war has made them ill and unstable like old

Habeas Corpus Research Paper
Introduction
How powerful is the law? The laws of armed conflict grandly and euphemistically called international
humanitarian law have never been better cultivated by so many jurists, yet somehow hundreds of
thousands of Iraqis managed to die after our 2003 invasion, with a perhaps greater number perishing
due to the economic sanctions between our Gulf Wars (Madar, 2014). Within today s society we have
criminals of all kinds. These criminal s may truly not be criminals, they are just labeled with this term

The United States adopted and ratified Habeas Corpus on September 17, 1787. With the Judiciary Act
of 1789 the U.S. Congress gave the federal courts the power to issue writs of Habeas Corpus. In the
War of 1812, General Jackson declared martial law and took several detainees and blocked their

Lambdin Milligan was sentenced to death in a military proceeding and used a Habeas petition to
challenge President Johnson s military commissions. In this case the Supreme Court ruled Ex Parte
Milligan that the military commissions didn t have any jurisdiction over the civilian and granted him
to freedom. As stated above in 1871 when the Ku Klux Klan Act was passed, President Ulysses S.
Grant suspended the writ of Habeas Corpus due to the several South Carolina counties that began to
riot in rage. Habeas Corpus was suspended in the Philippines in 1902 by President Roosevelt and the
governor of the Philippines due to ongoing rebellion. In 1941 the Congress authorized the governor of
Hawaii to temporarily suspend Habeas Corpus in response to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. In
the twentieth century, after the Oklahoma City Bombing, President Clinton signed the Antiterrorism
and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996, this limited the instances under which a federal court could

Essay on Confucianism vs. Buddhism
Confucianism vs. Buddhism
By Robert Truckle In this essay, two world religions will be compared to see how similar and/or how
different they are; these two religions are Confucianism and Buddhism. Confucianism speaks about
the wise thoughts that Confucius came across throughout his life. Buddhism speaks about how to
acquire great knowledge throughout life. Confucianism was founded by a Chinese man, but Buddhism
was founded by an Indian man. These quick comparisons show how the religions differ, but more
detailed comparisons will be seen throughout the essay. The origins and founders of these two
religions are quite similar, which will be explained in this paragraph. Confucianism was founded by a

Roberto Clemente
My five page paper is on a famous baseball star named Roberto Clemente. As he was very talented, he
also cared and loved for everyone. He would help those in need and enjoy it too. All around Roberto
Clemente was a wonderful man. In these next five pages I will be talking about his life and how he
was a good samaritan throughout his life.
Roberto Clemente was born in the summer in August 18, 1934. He was born in a house of concrete
and wood on an old country road in Barrio San Anton, Carolina, Puerto Rico. He was the youngest of
seven children. His father was a foreman overseeing sugar cane cutters and helped deliver sand and
gravel for a construction company. His mother did laundry, ran a grocery store and did other jobs on
the sugar cane plantation. Roberto did odd jobs so he could help the family and buy himself a bicycle.
Growing up, Roberto played baseball and participated in track and field. He won medals for the
javelin throw and short distance races. Throwing the javelin strengthened his arm for throwing a
baseball. Roberto was a very athletic boy.
Roberto Clemente had four brothers and two sisters. He did have to work with his father loading and
unloading trucks because his family was poor. He was very interested in baseball ever since he was
young and played against teams in his neighborhood. He went to Vizcarrondo High School in

John Wayne Gacy s Summary As A Killer Clown
Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary
In the 1970s, a prolific serial killer named John Wayne Gacy gained notoriety for being the Killer
Clown . Gacy raped and killed 33 young boys and men in Chicago. He would bury the victims in a
crawl space he dug or throw them into the Des Plaines River when the crawl space ran out of the
room. He pled not guilty by reason of insanity and claimed he lost count of how many victims he
buried in the crawl space. Even though he was well known in the community for his active
involvement in volunteer work and performing at events dressed up as Pogo the Clown , he was still
found guilty of all 33 murders and sentenced to death. The main reason the judge and jury didn t agree
to his plea of insanity is because of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an ordinary murder case, prosecutors have to prove not only that a person was killed, but that the
person charged with the crime intended for someone to die. In a depraved heart murder case,
prosecutors must prove instead that the suspect knowingly did something that was likely to kill, and
that he showed extreme indifference to the possible harm. Gacy would strangle his victims with a
rope, but tried to play it off as erotic a position, that he didn t know that the rope around the victim s
neck would end up suffocating them. This shows how he didn t care that an action he was taking could

Analyzing Abortion Essay
Analyzing Abortion In 1973, Roe versus Wade instigated an ongoing debate in the United States
concerning the implementation of abortion (Rubin 1). Prior to Roe, abortion was illegal, however it
was practiced. In 1846, a few blocks south of Manhattan s Greenwich Village, Madame Restell
performed illegal abortions to cure female irregularities, or pregnancies (Rubin 1). After Restell, a
group called Jane , also known as the Abortion Counseling Service of the Chicago Women s
Liberation Union, performed more than 11,000 illegal abortions from 1969 73 in Chicago alone (Horst
1). Though the Court decision lawfully settled the argument, the abortion issue developed further

As of 1997, 49 countries, including many industrialized European countries, have abortion legislations
similar to the United States (Henshaw et al. 58).
The abortion debate is controversial because it predominantly centers on society s religious and moral
beliefs. Religion is the leading variable of individuals opposing legalized abortion in the United States
(Kelley). Furthermore, Kristin Luker believes that the moral positions of activists on both sides of the
abortion issue reflect their individual worldviews on sexuality, family life, technology and the
importance of the individual; however, the pro choice and pro life movements are not effective in
changing people s moral beliefs on abortion (Luker). The key issue our candidate must address is the
federal government s participation in funding state sponsored sex education programs and greater
coverage of abortion costs.
The public s stance on abortion has remained relatively stable since the Roe decision. Fifty six percent
of the general public feels that abortion should be legal in certain circumstances such as rape, incest or
health complications. Overall, pro life advocates views on abortion tend to be congruent across the
board. Ninety eight percent of abortion opponents feel it is morally wrong in all circumstances (Scott).
However, the pro choice movement is more fragmented in its opinions. Twenty seven percent of pro
choice people support abortion even though they believe it is morally

Pioneer HDJ-1000 Review
Pioneer HDJ 1000 Review
HDJ 1000 stand next to the heavyweights of DJ cans. But these are meant solely for DJs working in a
noisy club. If you are an audiophile, this may not be the best pick for you.
Sound Quality 7.5/10
HDJ 1000 has a specifically colored output. The mid bass are given a big enhancement at the cost of
other parts of the spectrum. The lower parts of the bass can sometimes be totally lost. Vocals often
become shrill and treble becomes very prominent.
That said, the cans do deliver what they promise. By enhancing mid bass they allow you to mix your
tracks while another track is playing loudly over the club sound system. It is the kick that matters the
most for you at that point in time.
Design 8/10
It was probably the first set of DJ cans that got the look right. As a DJ, the sound may be the most
important aspect of your work, but you also want to take pride in the equipment you own. The
prominent color schemes that HDJ 1000 introduced addressed this very well.
The fold down feature was, and still is, a great hit with the DJs. But even bigger hit is the switch that
allows you to switch to a mono output. You can have the headphone over one ear and listen to the
environment sounds with the other and be sure that you are listening to the whole sound, not just one
half of it.
HDJ 1000 lets you listen in with a single ear by letting you folding one earcup up. It also lets you twist
the headband so the earcup fits behind your ear. The switch works like a

Essay about Job Outsourcing
The economy is one of the most varied topics on the political frontier that is constantly debated,
though there is no obvious solution to the United States perpetual economic problems. Held within the
crumbling economy of today, are many ongoing controversial issues that plague our once healthy
nation. One such problem is job outsourcing, an issue with many schools of thought giving the topic
its controversial nature.
The exportation of jobs offshore is job outsourcing. This, to some, is believed to be a benefit to our

Though in the very distant future we can reap the benefits of that outsourcing, largely, Americans have
no jobs and often in this lazy economy, go without for months on end. This just hurts our current

economic despair. Outsourcing is a way for greedy corporations to make more profits, lay off more
workers who have seniority and corresponding wages, and to end up bringing in new workers at
starting salary. According to the president of eInnovate, Bill Bryant, America is losing more than two
thousand jobs a day across every field due to outsourcing . Outsourcing is affecting American industry

Gender Roles And The Medias Influence On Gender
Jared Magnone

Professor Schiber
Thought Paper #1
Gender roles, sex roles and the medias influence on gender have always seemed to play a key role in
society. They define the outcomes for the men and woman that are growing up in today s age. men are
taught to be strong, willing and show no emotion. Meanwhile woman are taught to be beautiful, kind
and delicate. These concepts show that the over powering force of society and that the media have
immense control of how boys and girls grow up with a heavy burden to bare.
Gender roles are very strong chains to break, they define what is and isn t allowed. During the 2008
campaign trail senator Hillary Clinton was bombarded with various forms of verbal abuse. When
speaking to a crowd of her supporters a couple of men in the crowd began to chant a variety of
demeaning phrases at the former secretary of state. This form of actions shows that people aren t
accepting of different genders. The idea of gender roles being able to decide whether or not a
candidate is suitable ultimately based on what he/she identify as is a devastating blow to any feminist
movement in the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Les Demoiselles D Avignon Vs The Starry Night
Les Demoiselles d Avignon VS The Starry Night Case Study 1: The Starry Night by Vincent Van
Gogh is one of his most known artworks, it portrays his uniqueness from other artists during his time,
and it shows the viewer into some of his deepest emotions. Van Gogh had suffered personal turmoil
that reached a high in December of 1888, where he then had a brief stay at an Arles hospital (Sayre
53). Within a few months van Gogh had been committed to a mental hospital, which is where he
painted The Starry Night (Sayre 53). The website Artble analyzes that it seems as though van Gogh is
creating a contrast between life and death with the bright sky and the dark, quiet town. The Starry
Night features a cypress tree, a tree known to mark graves, which gives the viewer a sense of death.
The church in the painting can be a representation of both life and death. Life can be observed from
the church because it brings its followers together and can provide them with a sense of peace and
happiness. Death can be observed because the church is a place where the heavens are worshiped and
the dead are buried to ascend into heaven. Soth has interpreted the Starry Night as a religious picture,
a sublimation of impulses that, since Van Gogh s loss of faith... could not find their outlet in
conventional imagery. He concluded: Unable to paint The Agony in the Garden, Van Gogh projected
its emotional content onto nature and created a sublimated image of his deepest feelings. At its most

Executive Order Research Paper
Evaluation The president of the United States has always been viewed as someone who holds a large
amount of power within the United States. This power spans to a number of areas, but perhaps one of
the most commonly heard of is executive order. However, though many have inevitably heard these
words how many can say that they truly know what they mean? Not only this, but once an
understanding of this power has been set in place the question of what types of checks and balances
are set in place to keep this power in line with the Constitution is still present. Therefore, through the
course of this paper these two questions will be addressed. To begin, a definition of executive orders
will be given, as well as, an explanation of the authority under which this power works. So, an

A man who was a Justice is the one who established a tripartite scheme for determining if a president
overstepped his or her bounds. This tripartite boiled down to the presidents power to act if Congress

matter, and the presidents ability to act in his or her own domain disputed Congress s objection. This
framework is one that has withstood the test of time and ultimately helped Congress establish when an
executive order is still in line with the Constitution and when it is not. In the end, the reason why these
checks and balances have to be in place is because without them the president could attempt to act
outside of what this power actually provides. Historically this has already happened, and that is why
Justice Jackson created a way to decide whether or not the president had overstepped his grounds with

The Positive And Negative Aspects Of Social Media
As defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary, social media is: forms of electronic communication
(such as websites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online
communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (Merriam Webster s
online dictionary 2017). Social media is commonly used in today s society. Platforms like Facebook,
Instagram, and Twitter have taken over, building a community with many active users. Social media is
especially popular among adolescents. (Radovic et al.). Further, such sites as these allow for an easy
way to communicate and stay updated on the latest trends. However, it comes with many problems as
well. With all the time that is spent on social media, it can make people less concentrated on the real
world , and the access to an abundance of information can lead to self esteem issues. Therefore, social
media has more negative aspects than positive for the younger generations in particular. As mentioned
previously Social media does indeed have positive aspects, with the main one being easy
communication with the vast majority of the world. Moreover, Social media platforms make it so
simple to access unlimited information and to keep in touch with many more people than was thought
ever possible. Even though online interactions do differ from seeing someone in person, social media
platforms allow an easy form of interaction (Noor Al Deen and Hendricks 12). Communicating

A Brief Note On Poultry Industry And Nepal
Abstract Poultry Industry in Nepal One of the most important aspects of livestock production is
ensuring producers have adequate biosecurity for their facilities. Biosecurity is procedures or
measures designed to protect the population against harmful biological or biochemical substances.
Whether it be small scale or large scale, the easiest way to maintain the cleanliness of a facility and
ensure the health of the animal is through proper sanitation. This is extremely important in Nepal as
the poultry industry accounts for 4% of the gross domestic product (GDP). In fact, there are over 50

Natural Disaster Indonesia Essay
Disaster, both natural and man made, are increasing in their frequency and catastrophic impact in
Indonesia. Natural hazards like landslides, avalanches, floods and debris flows can result in enormous
property damage and human casualties in mountainous regions (Matternicht, 2005). Earthquake,
flood, landslide, subsidence are only a few to mention (Walter et al., 2008; Abidin et al., 2009, Chini
et al., 2008; US. Geology Survey, 2006; Tsuji et al., 2009). The term natural disaster has been brought
as a common vocabulary to our daily life as news bringing information on natural disaster is occurring
in any parts of our planet recently. Planet Earth provides us with the air, food, warmth, and materials
we need to thrive. But Earth can also generate catastrophic disasters, from tsunamis and landslides to
tornadoes and wildfires, that kill people, damage the environment, destroy property, and disrupt
normal life. Such disasters may be sudden and violent, like an earthquake or flood, or gradual, like
drought or the spread of a deadly disease. Due to the lack or inadequate disaster prevention and
mitigation strategies in Indonesia, the impact of disasters which they do occur is much greater than in
other developed countries. Disaster detection and monitoring are essential aspect in disaster mitigation
and it s conventionally done by ground survey. Nowadays, remote sensing plays important role in
disaster mitigation.

Marie Antoinette s Influence On The French Revolution
In 1755, Josèphe Jeanne Marie Antoinette was born as the daughter of Empress Maria Theresa; the
sovereign who ruled the Hapsburg Lorraine House in Austria. As a princess and a member of the
Hapsburg dynasty, she inherited good looks which earned her a title of youthful goddess of beauty and
virtue upon her arrival in France. At her age of fourteen, her mother sent her off to faraway France to
married Dauphin, later known as Louis XVI, in order to secure a diplomatic alliance through marriage
with France, a former enemy of Austria. Initially, Marie Antoinette had charmed the French people
with her delicate looks; however, as she became the queen, slanderous accusations piled continuously
which eventually damaged her reputation and led to her death. Why the French people hated Marie
Antoinette so much and what are the sinful things she did in order to earn their wrath? From the
existing pamphlets published before the French Revolution up to Coppola s film Marie Antoinette, the
press demonized the once adored lady into a highly lascivious whore. Marie Antoinette s sexual abuse
were caused by the public perception as a sexualized body, a hidden fear towards all publicly active
women and the potential power of their bodies, in which they use their sexual advantages toward men
to gain an access to political power. First, the queen was an unwelcome guest in French people s eyes.

Character Analysis Of Midaq Alley
The novel, Midaq Alley, written by Naguib Mahfouz, tells the story of various characters living in a
poor alley in Egypt during World War I. Of all the people in Midaq Alley, Hamida is the one who lusts
most for an escape from tradition and poverty. She despises her traditional culture, and longs for a life
free from the social and cultural constraints that fall upon her. Hamida is introduced as a strong
character; however, the temptation of modernization guides her towards a more enticing lifestyle.
Hamida s character portrays how easy it is for one to abandon their culture, traditions and values. It
also portrays change in all aspects of Egyptian life, including religion, wealth and traditions. The
description Mahfouz gives of Hamida makes her out to be the most beautiful girl in the alley.
Immediately, her beauty captures the reader s attention, and causes her to stand out in the novel. In
fact, her beauty created chaos among the men in the alley, and is conveyed in the line she was
constantly beset by a desire to fight and conquer...this she showed in her pleasure in attracting men
[Mahfouz, 39]. In the third chapter of the novel, Hamida was described as a beautiful, shapely, dark

Grappling With Grief By The Survivor Essay
Grappling with Grief Guilt is perhaps the most painful companion of death, (Brainyquote.com, 2016).
Life in this day and age may often seem unkind, society is inherently violent, as demonstrated in
popular films and television series. Many individuals seek to obtain professions that require the
employee to regularly stake their own livelihood and safety on the line. Accompanied by the risk
necessary to earn nominal wages, exists the probability that friends and co workers, with whom one
may have developed a personal closeness and affection, will from time to time be injured and killed in
the line of duty. With added longevity in that career, death comes part and parcel. Chalking it up to
being the nature of the beast, may be a successful defensive posture for a period of time. For many
people, however, the day will inevitably come when reflection and introspection become more
frequent, guilt sets in for having lived while many others perished. The fairness of life being called
into question by the survivor, the long term psychological effects become insurmountable
(Goodtherapy.org, 2016). The bereavement just described is a condition known as survivor s guilt, and
is just one of many symptoms that can be expected when grappling with loss of life complexities.
Conceptually, death is often regarded as somewhat of a forbidden topic; this attitude may lend itself to
limited awareness of grieving processes that can cripple the bereaved. Regardless of career choice,
death is

Frida the movie was released in 2002 and directed by Julie Taymor. The cast included Salma Hayek as
(Frida), Alfred Molina as (Diego Rivera), Ashley Judd, Antonio Banderas, Edward Norton, Mia
Maestro, and Geoffrey Rush. The film is a biography of the life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. She is a
woman who came from a very simple background. Kahlo rose to fame as an artist with an unique
vision for her craft. She endured a difficult relationship with her husband/mentor Diego Rivera. Many
of her paintings are based on her experiences in life. She is also an artist who from the opinion of
many, painted from her soul. Director Julie Taymor was able to capture and visually show us the life
of Frida by using creative and dynamic angles to bring Frida s paintings to life.
Frida s rise to success was defined by the challenges she faced throughout her life. She had this sense
of durability, strength and resilience. She was rude, bold and also smoked and drank like the men
around her. At first Frida painted what she felt, but it wasn t for anyone to see or to be sold. She would
paint it and express every tragedy that affected her. In my opinion, her rise began once she witnessed
her husband having and affair with her sister. It hurt her so much inside the only way to describe how
she felt and let it out was she had to paint it. After that, she went on her own and continued painting
her pain. Through out her life she went through many hardships that caused her pain internally.

  • 2. Crisis management; BP Introduction When an organization is in a crisis, it dominates the organization s agenda and requires immediate action. The way the organization responds to a crisis can differ in many ways. In this essay I would like to discuss the crisis of the British concern British Petroleum (BP). At first I would like to provide more information about the crisis and its consequences, then I will identify the kind of crisis we have to deal with, I will discuss the several communication strategies BP have used, I will explain the different reactions of the public on the crisis. At last, I will give the oil concern some advice, in case a reoccurrence takes place. The BP oil spill The BP oil spill was a big natural disaster in the Gulf of Mexico ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... BP made mistake after mistake and it seems like Tony Hayward did not attend any media training. It is almost impossible to deny that a lot of things went wrong in the communication concerning the explosion of the platform and the following oil spill of the British oil concern BP. In the first instance, BP denied there was oil leaking out of the oil well. After that BP trivialized the consequences of the ecocatastrophe. Even the CEO Tony Hayward made some dull statements. What did BP do wrong? BP made a big mistake right after the explosion. They were not open and honest about the situation. First they denied the oil spill. When it became clear that there was definitely an oil spill, BP denied there would be any consequences for the environment and trivialized the situation later on. The Gulf of Mexico is a very big ocean. The amount of volume of oil and dispersant we are putting into it is tiny in relation to the total water volume said top executive Hayward, while scientists, biologists and satellite images proved the opposite. The photo shopped images of the crisis did little good for the oil concern. In the first weeks of the crisis BP used two Nonexistence strategies . BP used the denial strategy which means that they gave a simple statement denying that the crisis existed. After the denial strategy BP used the clarification strategy . This strategy was an ... • 3. Open Learner Model As A Tool For Self Regulated Learning Open Learner Model as a Tool for Self regulated Learning Research Question An Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) is a computer assisted instructional system designed using artificial intelligence to simulate a human tutor and customize instruction. Traditionally ITS had a three component architecture: domain model, student model, and tutoring model (Self, 1990). Later, a fourth component, user interface, was added, and now ITS is commonly known to have a four component architecture. Domain model is the source of expert knowledge that can be used as a standard to evaluate learner performance or to detect errors (Nkambou, Bourdeau, and Mizoguchi, 2010). Student model, the central component of an ITS, contains knowledge about the students ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 301). As the underlying modeling technology is used not only to inform the system of students learning but also to reveal it to students for inspection, a key challenge for an OLM is to create an effective user interface for presenting the model and supporting interaction (Bull and Kay, 2011). Methods The first round of search was done in SpringerLink using the expression ( open learn* model ) AND (self regulated learn*) AND (Intelligent tutor*), the returned number of unique hits is 390. 25 articles are selected for close reading. From the 25 articles, bibliographical search will be done for more relevant articles. The criteria for including the articles are: 1. The article should be peer reviewed. 2. The article should deal in a substantial way with Open Learner Model or Self regulated Learning, or both. 3. The paper can be a basic research, a review or an empirical study. Self regulated Learning Self regulation refers to the process of planning and cyclically adapting self generated thoughts, feelings, and actions to the attainment of personal goals (Zimmerman, 2000). Pintrich and Zusho (2002) defined self regulated learning as an active constructive process whereby learners set goals for their learning and monitor, regulate, and control their cognition, motivation, and behaviour, guided and constrained by their goals and the contextual features of the ... • 4. Active Learning At The Heart Of Mathematics ACTIVE LEARNING in practice for Processes in Mathematics in the Primary School. Frank Quinn Module MCS 3017 8th December 2014 Cockcroft (1982) states that problem solving ability lies at the heart of mathematics (p.73). The report also identifies in Para 243 the importance of offering the opportunity to pupils to engage in problem solving including the application to everyday situations. This has been further promoted through the importance of the Cross Curricular Skills of the Revised Northern Ireland Curriculum which promotes using mathematics, using communication and using information and communications technologies (uICT). The curriculum experience also requires the development of each pupil in the domains of thinking skills and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Problem solving stems from a constructivist approach where the children are required to construct and contextualise their learning around different experiences rather than simply absorb the knowledge and move onto the next topic. The majority of problems have more than one way of achieving the solution so therefore they can be approached in a variety of ways. Due to the freedom of approach, problems can be attempted individually or through peer learning. This active learning approach can make the learning, and the teaching, more enjoyable, whilst create an environment for greater cross curricular learning and understanding whilst promoting a positive attitude toward numeracy and creativity. Problem solving in mathematics provides a window for the teacher to obtain a view of the child s understanding of concepts within mathematics as they move through the childhood concept development sequence (Charlesworth et al, 2011). The assessment of this information can be gained through observing the child or using effective questions to draw out the child s cognitive creative thinking as they develop the solutions for the problem. In the Foundation stage, children discover problems through play based activities, for example, they use non standard units of measurement such as blocks or Lego, to build a desired construct, thus they learn how to recognise and use informal measurement. As the child grows and develops they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Men Behind the Scences of the Civil Rights Era Essay... Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for millions of Americans is an iconic portrayal when discussing civil rights and American democracy. His determination to change segregation through creative and savvy ways to reach the public led to his stardom. However, there were many others who helped during the civil rights era who do not get nearly as much praise as MLK Jr. Medgar Evers, James Meredith, A Philip Randolph, Jesse Jackson are a few gentlemen that rarely received the magnitude of media focus, popularity or scrutiny that the most charismatic civil rights leaders attracted. Instead they played different positions either, making telephone calls, visiting numerous homes, organizing community meetings and rallies. They tried building a large ... Both parents preached to their children about the importance of self reliance, pride, and self respect, values directly contradicting the customary values that African Americans were expected to assume (Evers Williams, Marable, 30). As a Child Medgar was told how, his great grandfather had killed two white men in a dispute an had managed to avoid white retaliation by escaping from town (Evers Williams, Marable, 30) Myrlie Evers Williams now relates James Evers would constantly preach to his children: My family will be able to walk on the sidewalk. Whites will treat them with dignity. They will be able to register to vote. There was a great emphasize on never being apologetic or ashamed of being black. No matter the circumstance they should never deny their African American heritage and culture. These lessons played a pivotal role on young Medgar and influenced the foundation for what he would soon emerge into as a young adult. Medgar had a great bond with his older brother Charles. They both were educated in segregated public schools in Decatur and Newton, Mississippi. Medgar and Charles resented the fact that they had to walk to school while the white children were transported on school buses. Medgar s early childhood was typical for any African American child in his community (Evers Williams, Marable, 30). When Medgar was 14 years old, a neighborhood friend of his father s got into ... The Low mass stars spend there main life as a fusion machine which turns hydrogen into helium and a very slow and methodical pace. When the energy released by this fusion reaches the surface it is released into space and this is the star luminosity. Over a long, long time sometimes billions of years a low mass star consumes the hydrogen in its core and converts it to helium, at which point the core starts to contract and shrink. Once all of the hydrogen inside the stars core begins to become totally exhausted, the core pressure gives way to the crush of gravity because it has no more fusion occurring in its core at that time. As the core shrinks rapidly and the outer layers start to expand the stars shape begins to grow in size and its luminosity becomes extraordinary brighter due to the outer shell starting to produce fusion more rapidly then the core did during the main sequence life of the star. As this situation grows more rapidly and extreme the core starts to rapidly burn again and fuse its core helium into carbon. Then just before its final death the star ejects its outer layers into space. This leaves only the degenerate carbon core and since this core is still very hot it emits intensely powerful ultraviolet radiation and glows brightly in what is known as a planetary nebula. The nebula fades and cools over around a million or so years and we are left with a white dwarf cooling indefinitely till ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Male Dominance In The Catbird Seat Throughout history, it is of no surprise that men dominate in a majority of environments. Though women made a movement to gain social and political rights during the nineteenth century, it was not entirely successful. Women have begun to gain a larger percentage of the workforce yet men continue to uphold dominance. In the short story The Catbird Seat , James Thurber write about how men have a known superiority over women in the workplace by describing the relationship between Mr. Fitweiler and Mrs. Barrows. The first time during the short story that Mr. Fitweiler has shown superiority over Mrs. Barrows is at a party when the two originally meet. Fitweiler s superiority is shown over Mrs. Barrows is when he requests very little information from Mr. Martin about the accusations against himself. Mrs. Barrows stormed into Mr. Fitweiler s office the morning after Mr. Martin arrived at Mrs. Barrows home. Mrs. Barrows warned Mr. Fitweiler of the things Mr. Martin had threatened the night before, but it was of no avail because Mr. Fitweiler had to protect himself, not Mrs. Barrows. Mr. Fitweiler was incredibly worried that the affair would become known; he had to do whatever possible to keep this from being revealed. The head of the filing department, neat, quiet, attentive, stood in front of the old man s desk. Mr. Fitweiler was pale and nervous. (5). This quote shows how concerned Mr. Fitweiler truly was about anyone discovering his relationship with Mrs. Barrows. When Mr. Fitweiler brings Mr. Martin in his office to inform him on what Mrs. Barrows had just accused him of, Mr. Fitweiler asks for very little information and a minuscule amount of details to support his alibi. Mr. Martin did not lie when telling of his night, he simply left of the most crucial events. Mr. Martin left out events that would have aided in Mrs. Barrows being rescued of being made a complete fool of. Mr. Fitweiler is also much more compassionate when talking with Mr. Martin as compared to Mrs. Barrows. • 8. the chrysanthemums Essay The Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck The short story The Chrysanthemums shows how extraordinarily forward thinking the author, John Steinbeck, was in his understanding of the pressures that women dealt with in his time. Through the exploration and illustration of women s emotions, Steinbeck gives us a view into the struggle of women in the early 20th century to find a place for themselves in society as well as establishing their own sexuality(Charters, 502). The story starts out with the description of a grey fog over the place where the story is set. The significance of this is to set the mood of the story. It also is a possible representation of how the main character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The world that she lives in is a man s world, and her husband is a man s man and this is illustrated in his actions when talking to the men in suits They smoked cigarettes and studied the machine as they talked . This idea of it being a man s world is a recurring theme in the story, another example of which is Henry s attitude towards Elisa and the way he talks to her, like he is talking to someone beneath him I ll get out the car. You can put on your coat while I m starting (The Chrysanthemums, 6). Steinbeck gives us a clear understanding that Elisa isn t very happy with her position in life, this is obvious when talking to the repairman, she says I wish women could do such things symbolizing her discontent with not just her role but women s roles in society. And the fact that she argued over the fact that women wouldn t like the repairman s work shows that she is willing to stand up for herself and her beliefs. When Elisa is talking to the man about what it feels like when the plants bud, and tells him about the stars and then when she reached out for his leg, and then was ashamed, this is her way for expressing her sexual frustration. The fact that she felt ashamed shows that she saw sex and anything of relation to it as a sin, even though it is something that she wanted. This is marked by the fact that after the repairman left she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Invention Of The Cotton Gin By Eli Whitney During the colonial era, African slaves faced a life of struggle and fear. In 1793, the invention of the cotton gin by Eli Whitney revolutionized economy as well as American slavery. This new machinery enabled the separation of the seeds from the cotton, making the cotton production increase extremely. However, with the increase of the white gold ( as it was called), there was a consequent increase on the request of slave labor. Therefore, slaves worked long hours on the fields, while many women slaves were confined to house duties, taking care of the masters family and home. Sadly, these women didn t just work exhausting hours, but also suffered physical and sexual abuse by the hands of their masters. Undoubtedly, African women were not just used for labor, but they were also used to satisfy the sick fantasies of cruel men. In Colonial America, around the year 1619 in Point Comfort (now Fort Monroe), Virginia, took place the first African slave sale. Ironically, it was John Rolfe, husband of Pocahontas, who recorded the very first sale of West African people at Point Comfort, suggesting the interesting ways in which diverse cultural narratives converge on this point (Barnett 607). The slave trade was handled mostly by the Royal African Company, which brought a large number of Africans to the American colonies. Such trade held a very important role for Britain because of the economic benefits that derived from the collection of taxes on the slaves. Colonies, like South ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the story, Ashes , Ashleigh has to make a huge decision whether to steal money for her Dad s new job or stay with mom for the rest of her life. Ashleigh didn t take the money because she doesn t see her Dad very often, she can t always count on him, and her mom is always prepared. To start off, Ashleigh only sees her Dad Tuesday and Thursday nights. Ashleigh has no idea what he could be doing when she isn t with him. I think we can gamble neither of those things will happen before Friday., (Pfeffer 4). In the story Ashes, Susan Pfeffer states, With Mom, there are a lot of rainy days and she takes a grim sort of pleasure in being ready for them., (Pfeffer 1). This shows Ashleigh describing how prepared her mom is for many situations. According to Susan in Ashes, The flashlight with working batteries for a blackout. • 11. Reflection About Hunger You ask me what is hunger? Listen to me. Here I am, famished, empty, and with every little feature of my bones exposed and the rumbling of my stomach near you. I will tell you. Hear me out. This is not a joke, nor a pleasant position to be in. Yet, when you think of hunger, you say to yourself, Oh yes, I ve been hungry before. I ve missed breakfast. Then, my stomach starts to growl, big deal. No, you have it wrong. Put yourself in my shoes where I desire just a morsel of food in the dumpster in the alley. Hunger is being thankful for the hamburger meal someone cheerfully gave to you. With my stomach aching for a meal, an individual dressed in modesty spots me out from the busy crowd. My clothes were covered in muck from laying on the grease smudged concrete from that night; however, that individual approaches me with charm and politely asked how was my day. I told them I was doing fine, but a meal right now would be great. The individual hands me their lunch they were going to have for work and wishes me a great day. I looked at the bag like a child being loose in a candy store. With glee, I opened the McDonald s bag and pulled out a Big Mac meal. I consume each bite viciously, leaving no crumbs like it was my last time eating. I cried with gladness because I hope I can thank that person again one day. The soldiers are harshly deprived of their dignity and health like the homeless who resort to begging for a living. The second simile compares the soldiers to ugly, old women. Owen writes, Knock kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge (2). The men who went into battle were, for the most part, young and straight out of high school, yet after the war they looked old and ugly like hags. Van Gogh had suffered personal turmoil that reached a high in December of 1888, where he then had a brief stay at an Arles hospital (Sayre 53). Within a few months van Gogh had been committed to a mental hospital, which is where he painted The Starry Night (Sayre 53). The website Artble analyzes that it seems as though van Gogh is creating a contrast between life and death with the bright sky and the dark, quiet town. The Starry Night features a cypress tree, a tree known to mark graves, which gives the viewer a sense of death. The church in the painting can be a representation of both life and death. Life can be observed from the church because it brings its followers together and can provide them with a sense of peace and happiness. Death can be observed because the church is a place where the heavens are worshiped and the dead are buried to ascend into heaven. Soth has interpreted the Starry Night as a religious picture, a sublimation of impulses that, since Van Gogh s loss of faith... could not find their outlet in conventional imagery. Why the French people hated Marie Antoinette so much and what are the sinful things she did in order to earn their wrath? From the existing pamphlets published before the French Revolution up to Coppola s film Marie Antoinette, the press demonized the once adored lady into a highly lascivious whore. • 35. Grappling With Grief By The Survivor Essay Grappling with Grief Guilt is perhaps the most painful companion of death, (Brainyquote.com, 2016). Life in this day and age may often seem unkind, society is inherently violent, as demonstrated in popular films and television series. Many individuals seek to obtain professions that require the employee to regularly stake their own livelihood and safety on the line. Accompanied by the risk necessary to earn nominal wages, exists the probability that friends and co workers, with whom one may have developed a personal closeness and affection, will from time to time be injured and killed in the line of duty. With added longevity in that career, death comes part and parcel. Chalking it up to being the nature of the beast, may be a successful defensive posture for a period of time. For many people, however, the day will inevitably come when reflection and introspection become more frequent, guilt sets in for having lived while many others perished. The fairness of life being called into question by the survivor, the long term psychological effects become insurmountable (Goodtherapy.org, 2016). The bereavement just described is a condition known as survivor s guilt, and is just one of many symptoms that can be expected when grappling with loss of life complexities. • 37. Frida, By Julie Taymor Frida the movie was released in 2002 and directed by Julie Taymor. The cast included Salma Hayek as (Frida), Alfred Molina as (Diego Rivera), Ashley Judd, Antonio Banderas, Edward Norton, Mia Maestro, and Geoffrey Rush. The film is a biography of the life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. She is a woman who came from a very simple background. Kahlo rose to fame as an artist with an unique vision for her craft. She endured a difficult relationship with her husband/mentor Diego Rivera. Many of her paintings are based on her experiences in life. She is also an artist who from the opinion of many, painted from her soul. Director Julie Taymor was able to capture and visually show us the life of Frida by using creative and dynamic angles to bring Frida s paintings to life. Frida s rise to success was defined by the challenges she faced throughout her life. She had this sense of durability, strength and resilience. She was rude, bold and also smoked and drank like the men around her. At first Frida painted what she felt, but it wasn t for anyone to see or to be sold. She would paint it and express every tragedy that affected her. In my opinion, her rise began once she witnessed her husband having and affair with her sister. It hurt her so much inside the only way to describe how she felt and let it out was she had to paint it. After that, she went on her own and continued painting her pain. Through out her life she went through many hardships that caused her pain internally. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
