Objectives:
Learners will understand the components of a narrative paragraph
Learners will be able to use a graphic organizer to plan their writing
Learners will understand a “take home message”
Learners will feel comfortable using various grammatical structures in their writing
Learners will be able to address Wh- questions in their writing
1. Components of a narrative paragraph (5 minutes)
a. Pg. 26 (course pack)
b. What is a narrative paragraph? What do you know about paragraph writing
already?
i. About 150 words.
ii. Needs to have a clear main idea.
iii. Answers the Wh- questions.
c. Let’s do the activity on page 26 together (10 minutes)
2. Read and analyse a sample paragraph (15 minutes)
a. Answer the Wh- questions
b. What’s the main idea?
3. What makes a good topic for a narrative paragraph? (5 minutes)
a. Something that is important to you
b. Something that is meaningful
c. Something you can write a lot about.
4. What’s the difference between a title and a topic sentence? (10 minutes)
a. Practice 1 on page 31 in the course pack
5. How do we write good topic sentences? (10 minutes)
a. Practice 2 on page 32 in the course pack

7. Brainstorming activity (10 minutes)
8. Graphic Organizer (20 minutes)
a. Fill out the graphic organizer on page 29 in the course pack ON YOUR OWN
9. Tell your story to a partner (30 minutes)
a. Using the graphic organizer as your guide, tell your story to your partner.
b. Partners, while you are listening carefully to the story, write down as many
details you hear
i. Use page 30 as a guide for taking down your notes
ii. When they have finished telling their story, ask any questions you may
have
10. Writing the first draft (30 minutes)
a. Don’t worry about every spelling or grammar mistake
b. Use your graphic organizer and your partner’s notes to help guide your writing
11. Wrap-up - What did we learn today?
