Biography Of Giovanni Boccaccio s Magnum Opus The...
There made its appearance that deadly pestilence, which, whether disseminated by the influences of
the celestial bodies, or sent upon us mortals by God in His just wrath by way of retribution for our
iniquities, had its origin some years before in the East, whence, after destroying an innumerable
multitude of living beings, it had propagated itself without respite from place to place, and so,
calamitously, had spread abroad into the West .
These are the lines from Giovanni Boccaccio s magnum opus The Decameron , which consists of
various tales narrated by seven young women and three young men seeking refuge in a secluded villa
outside Florence to escape from one of the greatest catastrophies in human history. The Black Death .
Miniature of the Decameron by Taddeo Crivelli from Ferrara (1467)
INTRODUCTION:
The most memorable example of what has been advanced, is afforded by agreat peatilence of
fourteenth century, which desolated Asia, Europe and Africa and of which the people yet preserve the
remembrance in gloomy traditions. It was an oriental plague marked by inflamatory boils and tumors
of glands such as break out in no other febrile disease. On account of these inflammatory boils and
from black spots, indicator of a putrid decomposition, which appeared upon the skin, it was called in
Germany and northern kingdoms of Europe, the Black Death and in Italy, la Mortelaga Grande , the
Great Mortality.
The Black Death was one of the most devastating

some being Dr. King, John F. Kennedy, and Lyndon B. Johnson. There were also significant events,
such as the Civil Rights Movement, the assassination of John F. Kennedy and the entry and war of
Vietnam. The sixties are known for being a controversial and politically challenge era, but there were
also many other activists that were important but lesser known. The sixties also represented the
movement of countercultures, identity politics and liberation movements. These challenges and
movements all summarized what is known as the era of the 60s.
There were many groups that opposed authority in a peaceful way such as marches and gatherings,
however, these groups certainly did not get along with authorities. The 1960 s was heavily influenced

The Black Panthers represented the ideologies of black power and that political and economic gains
can mainly be obtained through self empowerment and growth. The group was somewhat militant and
tended to cause tensions, sometimes resulting in jail time, however, the group did a lot their own
communities, such as free breakfast for children and educational programs for all.
Similar to the ideas of Black Power, the lesbian, gay, and the second wave feminist movements of the
1960 s were not ashamed instead they felt proud and empowered. The LGBT groups were urged to
engage with protests for radical changes while embracing and reducing criticism of who their sexual
preferences. The feminist ideologies of approaching these issues were to come out to family members,
friends, and colleagues, with no regret and living life openly as gay or lesbian. The Gay Liberation
movement had formed and radicalized in the late 60 s in response to the Stonewall riots of the 1960s,
in which a group of trans, lesbian, drag, and gay patrons resisted arrest during a raid in New York City.
After the Raid, many groups were formed such as the Gay Liberation Front and the Gay Activist
Alliance. These were just some other examples of how identity policies were relevant in shaping the
culture of the 1960s.
The feminist movement was also a common factor in shaping the 1960s and an ongoing process.

Regression Analysis of American Hotels Having Price as...
ABM PROJECT 2013 1. INTRODUCTION AND SUMMARY OF RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS It is
common knowledge that the prices people have to pay for accommodation in hotels vary enormously.
Furthermore, hotel revenue managers probably posses or more or less accurate intuition of what
causes room rates to diverge. However, they do not know how Online Travel Agent sites select the
leading hotels to be placed on their first search page. In this respect, some determinants are expected
to be associated with hotel prices in a more or less linear way. To say it differently, price differences
between hotels underscore the presence or not of some variables expected to influence the latter. It is
essential for hotels to understand how they can price ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Rhetorical Analysis On Want It All
Wanting It All Is Easy Recently Nike dropped a commercial titled Want It All and it is an extremely
interesting advertisement. Nike just became the new official sponsor of the National Basketball
Association (NBA) and it needed an advertisement to excite the fans of the league and get them
excited for the new season. Nike took the spot from one of its top rivals in the athletic wear world,
Adidas, so they needed to put out a strong front and show people that they were just as good if not
better than their competitor. Nike is an extremely well known distributor for athletic wear and sporting
goods. In the commercial, Nike uses a fictional person who goes by the name of Donte Grand and is
an extremely skilled basketball player. He grows up in the inner city and does not come from a lot, but
he excels in basketball and shows that no matter where you come from, if you want it all, you are
going to have to go and get it. Throughout the commercial, he transitions from his front yard to the
local outdoor court, to his high school, college, and eventually pro teams where he is playing in the
NBA Finals which is the championship with big time Nike sponsored players such as Kevin Durant
and Lebron James. The advertisement uses ethos and pathos to help convey its message. The first
rhetorical device that is obviously noticeable is the appeal to pathos in the advertisement. The first
thing you notice in the advertisement is the almost terrible conditions of the buildings and streets

challenging experiences. For example, during one s youth, balancing academics and maintaining
healthy relationships with both family and friends is perplexing. Nevertheless, imagine adding another
element on top of the boat load of responsibilities and expectations that growing up beckons mental
illness. In 72 Hour Hold by Bebe Moore Campbell, the main character, Trina, truly defines how much
of a rollercoaster life can be. As told through her mother s perspective, one will learn that Trina is a
eighteen year old female of African American decent and resides with her mother in Los Angeles,
California. Trina s parents, Keri and Clyde, provide their daughter with an upper/upper middle class
lifestyle due to her father s sudden successful career and her mother s successful resale clothing
business in Los Angeles. This well rounded and beautiful adolescent has recently graduated from high
school with high grades and was accepted to Brown University, however, due to her summer manic
episodes, Trina has not attended college yet. After her high school graduation, Trina began
experiencing manic episodes. These episodes consisted of Trina lashing out in various ways. Some
moments within the book described Trina as verbally and physically abusive towards her mother,
destructive by smashing glass cups, extreme paranoia, and wild nights out involving joints or alcohol.

Using The Strategy Of Having Putting Customer Service Essay
There are many strategies in which a company can use in order to compete in today environment and
succeed. In order to implement the strategy you must first understand this dynamic business
environment today. With the stock market at an all time high, unemployment at 5.8 percent, last
quarter economic growth at 5 percent, relative mild consumer price inflation, and the bonanza of
cheap gas we see that there is increased optimism about the U.S. economy. Yet challenges abound,
both coming from the inside and from abroad. Participation in the labor force remains at the lowest
levels since the late 1970 s, with over 6 million less people in the workforce since President Obama
assumed office. We see that the US is going through a presidential election which has impacted the
way in which American view America as well the whole world. Throughout this paper we take a look
at by using the strategy of having putting customer service as a company number one object can help
the company maintain brand loyalty and always have high in profit margins.
Often the simplest changes can have huge improvements on your business. If you want your business
to succeed, forget about searching for secrets and focus on the following simple strategies. Understand
where your customers are coming from. Understanding where your customers are coming from gives

Diana Wynne Jones Biography
Diana Wynne Jones Biography
On August 16, 1934, Diana Wynne Jones was born to Marjorie and Richard Jones, who were both
teachers. Three years later, her younger sister Isobel was born. She also had another younger sister
name Ursula, though I was unable to find any information regarding her birthday. A few months after
she turned five, WWII broke out, and her family moved to Wales. In the years between their
evacuation to Wales, and their family s final settlement in Thaxted, Essex, in 1943, they moved from
Wales to Coniston Water, then to York, and then back to London.
As a child, Diana wished to become a writer, although her parents thought it a useless job for her, as
she was dyslexic. Despite the lack of the encouragement from her parents, she wrote two small stories
in journals during her teenage years. As a girl, she attended Friends School Saffron Walden, an
independent, co ed, Quaker school that teaches students from age three to eighteen. I find this slightly
amusing as Diana decided as a child that she was an atheist. After concluding her schooling there, she
attended Saint Anne s College in Oxford. During her time there, she was able to attend lectures by
both J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. At these lectures, she met her future husband, John ... Show more

The Oil Industry
In the oil industry, well testing is a very useful tool to be able to model and interpret what processes
are going on underground in a reservoir system and what effect it would have if drilled into. From
well testing, it is quite common to observe a pressure transient derivative signature showing an
upward continuous trend. These types of curves are presented by a pressure derivative versus time log
log scale plot in different software s with KAPPA being an example. This trend can be interpreted as
showing the presence of nearby no flow boundaries. However, comparing this data with such seismic
and geological evidence it is often concluded that these such boundaries appear too close to the well.
Another possibility to explain this type of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The objectives of this study are to: 1. Simulate reservoir production of 100% water with no oil or gas
production. 2. Observe reservoir production when water and oil is being produced at a constant rate. 3.
Observe reservoir behaviour when heterogeneity is introduced and multiple reservoir parameters are
altered to observe different well test pressure derivative response curves in KAPPA. The initial model
was based on the fact the reservoir was a homogeneous, corner point, Cartesian model which had no
oil and gas production initially but produced water at a constant rate of 10000 m3/day for a period of
31 days. This model then was then compared analytically with KAPPA to see if the data matched the
data that was inputted. The next step was to add oil into the system to be able to give a more relevant
model to real life scenarios otherwise the data used beforehand was meaningless and couldn t be
representative of a real life scenario. To accomplish this and to simulate with the initial conditions, the
rate was reduced due to the introduction of a bubble point pressure of 150 bar and an oil production
rate along with a water production rate. Finally, the last objective of this simulation was to change the
properties of the reservoir to make it become heterogeneous and then comparing the derivative
response curve with those of the parameters such as: change

Weather In The Great Gatsby
Weather in the book is used to convey a multitude of things, but rain in particular symbolizes some
sort of melancholy. Each time rain appears throughout the book, it sets the scene and adds to the mood
of the situation, recurring numerous times in order to solidify that symbolic relationship. One time
when the rain is prevalent is when Daisy and Gatsby first reunite. Their initial meeting is awkward
and forced, thus the rain was falling. This allows the reader to not only understand the predicament to
a greater extent, but also to visualize it. It had been five years since they were last together, and in that,
the rain represents the despair left over from their time apart. After they became more comfortable

Circuit Analysis Using Kirchoff s Voltage Law, Kirchoff s...
Have you ever wondered how or what makes an electric circuit function? A fact that many people don
t realize is that almost every electric circuit can be analyzed with three very important laws. Those
laws are Kirchoff s Current Law, Kirchoff s Voltage Law, and Ohm s Law. With some practice and the
above stated laws in your tool bag, you can feel assured that you too can analyze electric circuits with
the best of them. However, before we get into the nitty gritty of defining and using these laws, I
recommend that you first connect to the links that offer a little historical information about the two
men that defined these fundamental laws for electric circuit analysis. Gustav Robert Kirchoff was a
German physicist born on March 12, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using equipment of his own creation, Ohm determined that the current that flows through a wire is
proportional to its cross sectional area and inversely proportional to its length. Using the results of his
experiments, Georg Simon Ohm was able to define the fundamental relationship between voltage,
current, and resistance. These fundamental relationships are of such great importance, that they
represent the true beginning of electrical circuit analysis. Unfortunately, when Ohm published his
finding in 1827, his ideas were dismissed by his colleagues. Ohm was forced to resign from his high
school teaching position and he lived in poverty and shame. However, his research efforts gained allot
of support outside of Germany. In 1849, Georg Simon Ohm was finally recognized for his efforts by
being appointed as a professor at the University of Munich. First Kirchoff s Current Law. Kirchoff s
Current law can be stated in words as the sum of all currents flowing into a node is zero. Or
conversely, the sum of all currents leaving a node must be zero. As the image below demonstrates, the
sum of currents Ib, Ic, and Id, must equal the total current in Ia. Current flows through wires much like
water flows through pipes. If you have a definite amount of water entering a closed pipe system, the
amount of water that enters the system must equal the amount of water that exists the system. The
number of branching pipes does not change the

The Role Of Sexism In Advertising
Advertisements from the early 1900s to today s marketing propaganda have changed dramatically in
terms of picture and context through the years. Some similarities still remain through the evolution of
marketing merchandise, but many differences can be seen in more recent ads. The Palmolive soap
company s advertisements from the 1900s exemplify the issue of sexism that took place in that time
period. The ads primarily focus on the youth and beauty of women and how it appeals to men. The
advertisement creators target the insecurities of women and threaten the achievement of being loved
by a man. Women are made to believe that their intelligence does not contribute to a man s affection,
but only beauty will grant a woman the gift of eternal love ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Creators focus mainly on the appearance of the ads rather than presenting a contextual argument.
Advertisement agencies have almost completely dropped phrases and text on their ads and solely rely
on the quality of the picture to present their case. Coloration, symbolism, and other visual cues are
emphasized in today s ads to catch the audience s attention. Whereas the older ads depended almost
entirely on presenting their product through bombarding the endorsement with paragraphs of text. The
advancement of technology brings new ways to access more eye catching coloration and a better
quality of picture. Many people are more attracted to a brightly colored, provocative image rather than

The Promotion Of Pupil Voice
The promotion of pupil voice is a complex task which demands the commitment of the entire school
community. Critically discuss the rationale for the development of pupil voice throughout all aspects
of school life and consider how teachers and senior managers can facilitate pupils in forming and
voicing opinions while also ensuring the equality of opportunity for all.
The term pupil voice refers to ways of listening to the views of pupils and/or involving them in
decision making. (Department for Education, 2014, p.1) The term and practice of Pupil Voice has
featured within the UK since the early 1990 s, when Professor Jean Rudduck pioneered the concept
with numerous ground breaking research projects throughout the UK. These series of research projects
investigated and presented how pupil voice strategies could be employed within the classroom and the
wider school context to enhance teaching, learning and the general experience of school for pupils.
Since this early research around this concept, the term and practice has considerably grown into a very
current topic within education today and is a concept which every enterprising school should be
aspiring to adapt within their day to day running of their school. Many schools choose to promote the
concept of pupil voice through the form of student councils. Whitty and Wisby (2007) present their
findings in a report for the Institute of Education, University of London that out of 2417 of pupils
surveyed, 85 per cent stated

What were the reasons as to why Australian enlistment rose at the outbreak of World War 1, but then
declined towards the end of the war?
At the outbreak of war, Australian enlistment numbers were high due to the fascination of war and
devotion to England, then fell due to the casualties.
Australia s relationship with Britain during World War One is a large reason as to why there was a
rush for young men to join the Australian Imperial Force. Many of the Australians in 1914 were of
close British decent, they felt it was a duty and responsibility of theirs to help fight alongside Britain
as not many people acknowledged Australia as a individual political entity. Others found that if they
didn t join the war effort that other countries would perceive Australia as a weak nation with cowardly
men, defending their country s honour, they enlisted also. One of Australia s war time prime ministers,
Andrew Fisher, created a saying, ... to the last man and last shilling. shows Australia s devotion to the
British Empire. Thus in summary shows that Australians rushed to enlist because of the devotion to
Britain and on the thought of what other countries may think of Australia. (Skwirk ... Show more

Animal Captivity Dilemma
The Dilemma of Animal Captivity Animal captivity is an extremely important, and often overlooked
problem that we, as human beings, have placed on nature and the animals that live in the endangered
environment. There are groups of people worldwide who are extremely against animal captivity
because of the drastic and permanent effects it leaves on the animals. These ideas of hatred against
animal captivity are expressed in small ways such as posting a picture on Instagram that represents
animal cruelty in captivity. Another way these ideas can be expressed is through large representations
such as movies. Films such as Jurassic World and Blackfish are prime examples of this. Both of these
films are representing the severe repercussions that can come from keeping large, dangerous animals
in captivity. Though Jurassic World is a fictional movie, it is able to send the message that having
animals that are dangerous in captivity is something that is very dangerous. Blackfish offers a real and
terrifying glimpse into what happens to the mindset of animals who are put into captivity and the
threat that those animals pose to not only other animals in captivity but also the humans who are in
charge of looking after these animals. This problem of taking animals away from their natural habitat
and placing them in captivity is a prime example of how humanity is trying to assert itself as dominant
of everything else. Mankind has thought of itself as a protector of the wild animals by

When coming of age, young adults will initiate to do things they want to do or get pressured in doing
things they don t want to do . Young adults can also be forced or be influenced to join the adult world
too early. For example, doing drugs, drinking alcohol, skipping class or school, smoking, cussing and
much more. Even so, the littlest choices can affect the rest of their lives on how they live. Another
example is having more ability to do things when going further in becoming a teen. Like as a child,
they are being told what to do and what not to do. When growing older, an adult will be more
independent to choose their path to a successful future or a miserable future. Another example choices
are part of coming in age is making a commitment. When wanting to be successful, people volunteer to
make choices that can benefit their academics and make a commitment for it.
Lastly, being responsible. When coming of age, young adults will get into the process where they are
more independent with themselves. When being responsible, Young adults tend to be more cautious to
take care of things around them and themselves. Also, when young adults hit at the legal age, young
adults will have the opportunity to get their own driver s licenses. At this rate, young adults can take
themselves to school or to any errand. Now, since they have a driver s license, they are responsible to
take themselves to wherever they desire to go. Another example of

Energy Detection Based Spectrum Sensing Method
In energy detector, the received signal is first filtered with a band pass filter in bandwidth to normalize
the noise variance and to limit the noise power. The output signal is then squared and integrated as
follows: for each in phase or quadrature component, a number of samples over a time interval are
squared and summed. The conventional energy detection method assumes that the primary user signal
is either absent or present and the performance degrades when the primary user is absent and then
suddenly appears during the sensing time. An adaptive method to improve the performance of Energy
detection based spectrum sensing method is proposed .In this proposal, a side detector is used which
continuously monitor the spectrum so as to improve the probability of detection. The Primary user
uses a QPSK signal with a 200 kHz band pass bandwidth (BW). The sampling frequency is 8 times
the signal BW. A 1024 point FFT is used to calculate the received signal energy. Simulation results
showed that when primary users appear during the sensing time, the conventional energy detector has
lower probability of detection as compared to the proposed detector. The performance of energy
detector is characterized by Receiver Operating curves usually. AOC (Area under the Receiver
Operating curves) is used to analyze the performance of the energy detector method over Nakagami
fading channels. Results showed that a higher value of fading parameter leads to larger average AUC,

How Important Was The Privy Council
How important was the Privy Council
It could be argued that the monarch was an important member of government however some may
disagree and put forward the idea that the Privy Council was more important. This is for several
reasons the first reason (for the monarch) was the fact that she could decide who could become a
member of the Privy Council this is because it meant that she had total power over those who that
would help run the country. However this did not mean that the monarch was the most important
figure as it could be argued that the monarch did in fact have a Back Seat with regards to running the

Realism In Theatre In The 1920s And 30s
In the 19th and 20th century, realism in theatre was a common occurrence. Realism is presenting a
person, thing, or event in its true colors ( Realism ). Even throughout the Great Depression, Broadway
and theaters managed to stay afloat. Its popularity began to surge, and there were 200 to 275 new
shows coming out per year (Early 20th Century Theatre). Most of these shows were strictly for
entertainment. Themes were often romantic, about happy endings and true love. However, some
productions began to turn away from the stereotypes of shows during this time. In the 1920s and 30s,
shows became more extravagant and helped influence some of the most iconic American productions
(Theatre of the 20th Century and Beyond). As a result, shows like

Embryonic Wars Essay
The specific objective of this major essay is to clarify and summarise the controversial debate
concerning the ethical decency of embryonic cloning for therapeutic purposes. This is the form of
cloning that is supposedly beneficial to a barrage of medical applications. We will identify the key
opposing ethical perspectives such as those of the justification of embryonic research based on the
normative theory of consequentialism. This paper will also probe into the relatively brief history of the
debate while gauging the particular stumbling blocks of disagreement which bioethicists have arrived

In July this year, scientists of the United Kingdom began to publicly exploit a loophole in the
Government s ruling of the rejection of spare part cloning research. The loophole allows the
researchers to continue with experiments by importing stem cells from cloned embryos which have
been created and destroyed in another country.
There is a rather surprising amount of medical benefits arising from therapeutic cloning research
which have to be weighed before we assess where the debate is currently at. Doctors lay well founded
expectations that by being able to study the multiple embryos developed through cloning, the causes
of disastrous spontaneous abortions can be determined and much human loss can be averted. A greatly
viable application lies in the field of clinical contraceptives. Leading contraceptive specialists perceive
that if they can determine the manner in which an embryo knows where to implant itself, a
contraceptive can be developed which will prevent embryos from implanting in the uterine wall. An
additionally important branch of therapeutic cloning research is embryonic stem cell development.
Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that can quot;evolve into almost any type of cell quot; (Lord 28)
within the human body. These cells are not attacked by a person s immune system because of their
rapid maturation and undifferentiated status. Many doctors have reason to believe that these stem

Maurice Ravel Tzygane
Tzygane
Composer: Maurice Ravel (7 March 1875 28 December 1937)
Dedicated to: Hungarian Jelly d Arányi, one of the great violinists of her time
First performed in London on 26 April 1924, with d Arányi on violin and Henri Gil Marchex at the
piano. Orchestral version first performed in Amsterdam on 10 October of that year, with Samuel
Dushkin taking the solo with the Concertgebouw under the baton of Pierre Monteux.
Ravel s musical talents showed themselves at an early age. Originally from the Basque region of
southern France, his family soon moved to the capital, where he spent 15 years at the Paris
Conservatoire.

Yet the star of the current work the violin is an instrument he never played or studied in his life,
making the fact he could produce such a technical virtuoso piece all the more remarkable.
It is generally agreed that the seed for Tzygane (meaning gypsy ) was sown on a trip to London during
which Ravel was treated to a private performance of traditional Hungarian folk music by the
accomplished violinist Jelly d Arányi, grand niece of the violin virtuoso Joseph Joachim and previous
dedicatee of violin sonatas by Bartók and Vaughan Williams. Little wonder, then, that the composer
dedicated the resulting work to Ms d Arányi, who took the lead when the piece premiered in London
to general acclaim.
Written in a single movement lasting around 10 minutes, this concert rhapsody for violin and piano
falls into two broad sections: a cadenza, generally interpreted as a snapshot of gypsy life, its hardships
and passions, hopes and dreams, and a post cadenza in lighter mood, reflecting the freedom and joy of
gypsy culture and dance through a loose set of

Domestic Violence And Domestic Abuse
My father was one of those men who sit in a room and you can feel it: the simmer, the sense of some
unpredictable force that might, at any moment, break loose, and do something terrible (Burnside).
Many family units silently suffer from domestic abuse inflicted by a parent figure. According to the
United States Department of Social Justice, domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior in any
relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate
partner. Even when an abused partner, typically the woman, is removed from the abusive situation,
pain does not cease. There are extensive emotional and psychological repercussions from domestic
abuse. As the most commonly abused sector of the population is made up of woman and children, they
will be the parties analyzed. This domestically abused sector requires aid from individuals, such as
social workers, who are educated in the area of domestic abuse and are trained to work through the
repercussions of domestic abuse. This paper discusses the history of domestic violence, the nature of
lingering pain in the psychological and emotional sense, what can be done to recover from the trauma,
and how Christian social workers should approach helping those who have been domestically abused.
Domestic violence has existed ever since Eve bit into the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, and
sin entered the world. Earthly relationships are fallen, and consequently domestic

Raising Drinking Or The Sale Of Alcohol
Organized efforts to control and limit drinking or the sale of alcohol have been persistent in the United
States since the early nineteenth century. For many years, before any public demonstration was made
against the liquor traffic, and for some years after, distilleries by many people were deemed a blessing
to the community. They provided a ready market for any surplus grain that was raised. The business
was considered respectable; and members of churches, and even deacons engaged in it without any
detriment to their moral character or standing in society. But, after a few years of temperance work, it
dawned upon the minds of some that these distilleries were a source of evil rather than good, for they

Globalism refers to connectedness and communication networks that span continents and bring the

Digital technology has increased globalism, global marketing and business opportunities, but this
growth doesn t mean that everyone gets a share of the wealth. There has been a growing gap between
the richest and poorest people that only seems to increase as globalism generates more opportunities.
The top fifth of U.S. households, for example, own 84 percent of the nation s wealth while the bottom

being able to identify fractions with greater or less value when comparing fractions.

During this activity students were very engaged, they created their own figures using the pattern

After creating these figures, they realized that they could have use tringles to make their figures

students started to make the same figures but this time only using tringles. However, I noticed that

wrote how many triangles were in a Hexagon, a rhombus, and in a trapezoid. Then he said I think that
I need 21 triangles. I thought that was very impressive for him to completely do something different
than his classmates. Then, I saw the opportunity to allow him to continue with the lesson while the
others were still figuring out how many triangles were needed to create the same figure. After

The Topic For My Capstone Project Was To Gain Introductory
The topic for my capstone project was to gain introductory knowledge for penetration testing. I had
little knowledge on the subject itself, but I was interested in it enough to base this project around it.
What I knew before hand was very basic information and I would need to learn a lot more before I
could consider myself fully introduced to penetration testing. The goal of my capstone was to learn
how to safely practice penetration testing, set up a virtual machine penetration lab, learn why a lab
would need to be set up, and lastly to find out why penetration testing is important.

Using these labels and their definitions explains the purpose of penetration testing a bit better. White
hats use the same methods and tools to break into networks as a black hat would, but they disclose the
security issue with the network owner. In a sense, a white hat imitates a malicious attack but there
would be no harm done to the network.
What are the vulnerabilities in which a penetration test would look for? Most penetration tests would
go through an information gathering state in which they look for as many different possible vulnerable
targets, and they may also capture the network traffic and investigate that as well. One example of an
attack could be infiltrating the file server and uploading a payload to that server. If an attacker can find
their way to accessing the file server, depending on what is kept on it, they could also have access to
secure files and any other sensitive information kept on it, possibly any of the configuration files to
that file server holding hashes for user passwords. Attackers may also look for any vulnerable
programs on network computers for more ways into the system. Depending on how much effort a
hacker wants to go through there is an endless amount of areas that they can check for vulnerabilities.
Anything from scanning port numbers to bypassing the firewall without being detected, networks can
be well secured but not to a point of being 100% safe from any

Mahatma Gandhi
Join Us and the World Will be as One
You must be the change you wish to see in the world, said Indian civil rights leader Mahatma Gandhi.
Gandhi, along with Mother Jones and Melba Pattillo Beals wanted equality. Gandhi s mission was to
cease color prejudice, Mother Jones s mission was to achieve child labor rights and Melba s mission
was to make integration possible. These three individuals fought courageously for equal human rights
because they wanted to see a difference in the world. Gandhi was a pacifist whose mission in life was
to change racial inequality because he believed it was wrong for anyone to be treated differently by
their race or gender. For example, Gandhi bought a first class ticket on a train and was asked to be
removed from the first class section. Gandhi refused to move to the back and was eventually thrown
off. On that same night, he devoted to himself that he would be fighting the deep disease of color
prejudice ( Mahatma Gandhi ). During this time when Britain ruled over India, non white people were
discriminated. The reason Gandhi was casted out was because he was an Indian. Instead of using
violence to fight colored prejudice, Gandhi developed his philosophy of Satyagraha , or resistance
through non violent civil disobedience ( Satyagraha ). For instance, Britain passed an act which not
only prohibited Indians from collecting or selling salt...but imposed a heavy tax that hit the country s

Preventing Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections in Older Adults: Improving Health Outcomes
through Assessment, Intervention, and Prevention
Introduction
Through medical advances in technology and practice, nurses have been afforded the opportunity to
provide lifesaving care to patients. However, this lifesaving care comes with the risk of healthcare
associated infections (HAIs). Generally speaking, HAIs are infections directly related with the
delivery of healthcare and are often caused by viral, bacterial or ... Show more content on

First, neurological disorders can occur, as seen with Alzheimer s disease and Parkinson s disease,
which can lead to neurogenic bladder ( Neurology/Neurogenic Bladder, 2017). Next, physiological
disorders can occur as seen with enlarged prostate in men or shortening of the urethra in women
(Jaipaul, 2017). Anticipating the above changes appropriately will aid in understanding what leads to
urinary retention in older adults, the resulting need of catheterizations, and the CAUTIs that can
follow. Having a foundation to build on, it would be beneficial to explore what nurses can do prevent
urinary tract infections in patients who require catheterization.
Current Nursing Care
The first step nurses can take to decrease the incidents of CAUTIs in older adults is avoiding
unnecessary use of catheters altogether. Initially, this begins with nurses knowing both appropriate and
inappropriate situations in which a catheter should be utilized. According to (Gould et al., 2017), an
appropriate situation is one where a patient has acute urinary retention or bladder obstruction, whereas
an inappropriate situation is one where a catheter is being used a means of obtaining urine for culture
when the patient can voluntarily void. Nurses can also use basic techniques like palpation, percussion,
and inspection to effectively assess urinary retention, which is the main reason for catheterization as
mentioned earlier. When techniques like this do not achieve desired results,

Lather Song Analysis
Lather is song written by Grace Slick and performed by the psychedelic rock band Jefferson Airplane.
Its unusual theme and peculiar, folky sound are its most notable features. At a glance, the song is
about a man called Lather who is turning thirty, although he refuses to mature from his simple minded
and young at heart ways. Grace Slick revealed that the song was mean to poke fun at the thirtieth
birthday of the drummer of the band, Spender Dryden, who was the oldest member but most child like
in personality. Whether the meaning of the song is meant to be casual and comical, or an uncommon
perspective on a naïve man refusing to mature, it is still a very creative and somewhat bittersweet
piece. Slick says that Lather was thirty years old today, they took away all of his toys. The toys that
she is referring to could be either literal or figurative given Lather s childish, and unsophisticated
nature. Grace says that lather prefers to draw pictures of mountains that look like bumps and lie about
nude in the sand which is unusual, but striking imagery for the audience to imagine this
unsophisticated man child who enjoys thrashing the air with his hands Slick also refers to Lather as
baby wide and so nameless, that he hardly knows which game to play, which words to say, which
further displays his innocence and foolishness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many examples of both rhyme and slant rhyme, such as the rhyme bank and tank, sound and
town, and famous and nameless. Repetition is present in the song such as when Slick repeats twice
and I should have and Lather was thirty years old today. The song itself is also spoken in a somewhat
condescending way, to convey the simple minded theme. but wait, oh Lather s productive you know,
mountains that look like bumps, and his very own tank display this child like

distraction for the patients being a female with large breasts, always covering them up, or pulling them
close to her body as if to show she is not there for the patient s pleasure but there to help them on the
road to recovery. The ward is so meticulous about who works there that The doctors last three weeks,

has taken several years to acquire a single doctor, and three daytime black boys whom each work like
clockwork with her and do not have to be given verbal orders rather they just know when and where to
do their jobs and how their jobs should be done. Not only does the nurse use such a detailed plan to
run her ward, she also incorporates into this plan; group therapy. Group therapy as McMurphy puts is

Nt1310 Unit 1 The Environment Analysis
1) Factor 4:
The main aim of factor 4 is to decrease the level of materials utilization and usage of human resources
to one fourth level. The Factor 4 follows a set of guidelines for comparing design options and for
evaluating the performance of buildings and their component systems. Factor 4 suggests that for
humanity to live sustainably today, we must rapidly reduce resource consumption to one quarter of its
current levels. Fortunately, the technology to accomplish Factor 4 reductions in resource consumption
already exists and requires only public policy prioritization and implementation.
2) Factor 10:
Energy use by buildings would be reduced by a Factor 10 or more below that of conventional
buildings. The purpose of factor 10 is a long term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Natural Step provides a framework for considering the effects of materials selection on human
health. Robèrt suggested that many human health problems, particularly those of children, result from
materials we use in our daily lives. The extraction of resources such as fossil fuels and metal ores from
the planet s crust produces carcinogens and results in heavy metals entering the earth s surface
biosphere
8) Eco efficiency:
The concept of eco efficiency includes environmental impacts and costs as a factor in calculating
business efficiency. The WBCSD considers the term eco efficiency to describe the delivery of
competitively priced goods and services that satisfy human needs and enhance the quality of life while
progressively reducing ecological impacts and resource intensity throughout the products life cycles to
a level commensurate with the earth s estimated carrying capacity.

The Ongoing Issue of Animal Cruelty, Abuse, and Animal...
Animal cruelty is an ongoing issue in today s society. When we listen to the news and hear about these
animals being starved, beaten, and treated poorly our hearts drop and we get a lump in our throat
holding back the tears. We see these animals suffer, we see the pain in their eyes begging for our help,
we want to put an end to this but we fail to see the bigger picture. Animal cruelty is a more severe and
extreme than we think it is. Animal cruelty just is not owners beating their pets. Animal cruelty is
animal testing. Scientist performs experiments on these animals that have no voice, no control, no way
to stop what is happening to them. These animals are helpless, innocent creatures that have no idea
why this is happening to them. These animals are enduring pain they are being deformed, having body
parts mutilated, and many are killed. There are many organizations today such as PETA fighting to
improve animal welfare but cruelty still continues. Animal testing needs to be completely banned or
modified so the animals do not suffer. Scientific experiments on animals are cruel and unethical.
These tests done on animals do not yield positive results that are beneficial to humans.
Animal testing has been round since early Greek and Roman civilization. Animal dissection was
performed in order to obtain more knowledge of the human anatomy. Animal anatomy is similar to
human anatomy but while performing these operations on animals. Physicians feel no sympathy for
these

Yosemite Valley Painting By Pablo Munoz
YOSEMITE VALLEY S MOST FAMOUS VIEW
Have you ever wonder why an artwork is so important for some people? There are many answers to
this question, but one is that an artwork is important because it portrays some kind of feelings.
Without art, our lives would simply become plain, boring and lifeless. Through art, artists can express
emotions, such as happiness, love, sadness or grief. Each form of art is different, but they somehow
connect to our souls and emotions. Therefore, if you want to feel an environment of tranquility,
harmony, and relaxation you should visit the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and see the beautiful
Yosemite Valley painting by Pablo Munoz. The artist concentrated his painting on distant mountains,
and rushing streams that invites viewers to admire the beauty of nature. Pablo Munoz used some
elements of art in his painting such as color, light, and line to show his viewers different emotions.
One element of art that Munoz used in his painting is color. He used color in his painting for many
reasons. For example, he used local colors, which are the colors we understand to be like the
greenness of the grass and trees, and the blueness of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be used to suggest shape, pattern, form, structure, depth, distance, rhythm, movement and a
range of emotions. For example, in the Yosemite Valley the horizontal lines of the mountains represent
distance, but also impact a sense of peacefulness. Each line has a different personality and
communicates different emotions. For example, when the lines are thin, they can represent delicate,
timid or weak, and diagonal lines show action, falling or growing. Every time when artists used lines
for nature like mountains and trees, people probably feel happy because humans have a special love
for nature because we evolved in it. For example, a person enjoys being on a place fill with many trees
when she is stress because nature helps her to

  • 2. Biography Of Giovanni Boccaccio s Magnum Opus The... There made its appearance that deadly pestilence, which, whether disseminated by the influences of the celestial bodies, or sent upon us mortals by God in His just wrath by way of retribution for our iniquities, had its origin some years before in the East, whence, after destroying an innumerable multitude of living beings, it had propagated itself without respite from place to place, and so, calamitously, had spread abroad into the West . These are the lines from Giovanni Boccaccio s magnum opus The Decameron , which consists of various tales narrated by seven young women and three young men seeking refuge in a secluded villa outside Florence to escape from one of the greatest catastrophies in human history. The Black Death . Miniature of the Decameron by Taddeo Crivelli from Ferrara (1467) INTRODUCTION: The most memorable example of what has been advanced, is afforded by agreat peatilence of fourteenth century, which desolated Asia, Europe and Africa and of which the people yet preserve the remembrance in gloomy traditions. It was an oriental plague marked by inflamatory boils and tumors of glands such as break out in no other febrile disease. On account of these inflammatory boils and from black spots, indicator of a putrid decomposition, which appeared upon the skin, it was called in Germany and northern kingdoms of Europe, the Black Death and in Italy, la Mortelaga Grande , the Great Mortality. The group was somewhat militant and tended to cause tensions, sometimes resulting in jail time, however, the group did a lot their own communities, such as free breakfast for children and educational programs for all. Similar to the ideas of Black Power, the lesbian, gay, and the second wave feminist movements of the 1960 s were not ashamed instead they felt proud and empowered. The LGBT groups were urged to engage with protests for radical changes while embracing and reducing criticism of who their sexual preferences. The feminist ideologies of approaching these issues were to come out to family members, friends, and colleagues, with no regret and living life openly as gay or lesbian. The Gay Liberation movement had formed and radicalized in the late 60 s in response to the Stonewall riots of the 1960s, in which a group of trans, lesbian, drag, and gay patrons resisted arrest during a raid in New York City. After the Raid, many groups were formed such as the Gay Liberation Front and the Gay Activist Alliance. These were just some other examples of how identity policies were relevant in shaping the culture of the 1960s. The feminist movement was also a common factor in shaping the 1960s and an ongoing process. Starting from the We Can Do It! poster starring Rosie the Riveter in 1943 to merging ... INTRODUCTION AND SUMMARY OF RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS It is common knowledge that the prices people have to pay for accommodation in hotels vary enormously. Furthermore, hotel revenue managers probably posses or more or less accurate intuition of what causes room rates to diverge. However, they do not know how Online Travel Agent sites select the leading hotels to be placed on their first search page. In this respect, some determinants are expected to be associated with hotel prices in a more or less linear way. To say it differently, price differences between hotels underscore the presence or not of some variables expected to influence the latter. • 6. Rhetorical Analysis On Want It All Wanting It All Is Easy Recently Nike dropped a commercial titled Want It All and it is an extremely interesting advertisement. Nike just became the new official sponsor of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and it needed an advertisement to excite the fans of the league and get them excited for the new season. Nike took the spot from one of its top rivals in the athletic wear world, Adidas, so they needed to put out a strong front and show people that they were just as good if not better than their competitor. Nike is an extremely well known distributor for athletic wear and sporting goods. In the commercial, Nike uses a fictional person who goes by the name of Donte Grand and is an extremely skilled basketball player. He grows up in the inner city and does not come from a lot, but he excels in basketball and shows that no matter where you come from, if you want it all, you are going to have to go and get it. Throughout the commercial, he transitions from his front yard to the local outdoor court, to his high school, college, and eventually pro teams where he is playing in the NBA Finals which is the championship with big time Nike sponsored players such as Kevin Durant and Lebron James. The advertisement uses ethos and pathos to help convey its message. The first rhetorical device that is obviously noticeable is the appeal to pathos in the advertisement. • 10. Diana Wynne Jones Biography Diana Wynne Jones Biography On August 16, 1934, Diana Wynne Jones was born to Marjorie and Richard Jones, who were both teachers. Three years later, her younger sister Isobel was born. She also had another younger sister name Ursula, though I was unable to find any information regarding her birthday. A few months after she turned five, WWII broke out, and her family moved to Wales. In the years between their evacuation to Wales, and their family s final settlement in Thaxted, Essex, in 1943, they moved from Wales to Coniston Water, then to York, and then back to London. As a child, Diana wished to become a writer, although her parents thought it a useless job for her, as she was dyslexic. Despite the lack of the encouragement from her parents, she wrote two small stories in journals during her teenage years. As a girl, she attended Friends School Saffron Walden, an independent, co ed, Quaker school that teaches students from age three to eighteen. I find this slightly amusing as Diana decided as a child that she was an atheist. After concluding her schooling there, she attended Saint Anne s College in Oxford. • 12. The Oil Industry In the oil industry, well testing is a very useful tool to be able to model and interpret what processes are going on underground in a reservoir system and what effect it would have if drilled into. From well testing, it is quite common to observe a pressure transient derivative signature showing an upward continuous trend. These types of curves are presented by a pressure derivative versus time log log scale plot in different software s with KAPPA being an example. This trend can be interpreted as showing the presence of nearby no flow boundaries. However, comparing this data with such seismic and geological evidence it is often concluded that these such boundaries appear too close to the well. Another possibility to explain this type of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The objectives of this study are to: 1. Simulate reservoir production of 100% water with no oil or gas production. 2. Observe reservoir production when water and oil is being produced at a constant rate. 3. Observe reservoir behaviour when heterogeneity is introduced and multiple reservoir parameters are altered to observe different well test pressure derivative response curves in KAPPA. The initial model was based on the fact the reservoir was a homogeneous, corner point, Cartesian model which had no oil and gas production initially but produced water at a constant rate of 10000 m3/day for a period of 31 days. This model then was then compared analytically with KAPPA to see if the data matched the data that was inputted. The next step was to add oil into the system to be able to give a more relevant model to real life scenarios otherwise the data used beforehand was meaningless and couldn t be representative of a real life scenario. To accomplish this and to simulate with the initial conditions, the rate was reduced due to the introduction of a bubble point pressure of 150 bar and an oil production rate along with a water production rate. Finally, the last objective of this simulation was to change the properties of the reservoir to make it become heterogeneous and then comparing the derivative response curve with those of the parameters such as: change ... • 14. Circuit Analysis Using Kirchoff s Voltage Law, Kirchoff s... Have you ever wondered how or what makes an electric circuit function? A fact that many people don t realize is that almost every electric circuit can be analyzed with three very important laws. Those laws are Kirchoff s Current Law, Kirchoff s Voltage Law, and Ohm s Law. With some practice and the above stated laws in your tool bag, you can feel assured that you too can analyze electric circuits with the best of them. However, before we get into the nitty gritty of defining and using these laws, I recommend that you first connect to the links that offer a little historical information about the two men that defined these fundamental laws for electric circuit analysis. Gustav Robert Kirchoff was a German physicist born on March 12, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using equipment of his own creation, Ohm determined that the current that flows through a wire is proportional to its cross sectional area and inversely proportional to its length. Using the results of his experiments, Georg Simon Ohm was able to define the fundamental relationship between voltage, current, and resistance. These fundamental relationships are of such great importance, that they represent the true beginning of electrical circuit analysis. Unfortunately, when Ohm published his finding in 1827, his ideas were dismissed by his colleagues. Ohm was forced to resign from his high school teaching position and he lived in poverty and shame. However, his research efforts gained allot of support outside of Germany. In 1849, Georg Simon Ohm was finally recognized for his efforts by being appointed as a professor at the University of Munich. First Kirchoff s Current Law. Kirchoff s Current law can be stated in words as the sum of all currents flowing into a node is zero. Or conversely, the sum of all currents leaving a node must be zero. As the image below demonstrates, the sum of currents Ib, Ic, and Id, must equal the total current in Ia. Current flows through wires much like water flows through pipes. If you have a definite amount of water entering a closed pipe system, the amount of water that enters the system must equal the amount of water that exists the system. Some similarities still remain through the evolution of marketing merchandise, but many differences can be seen in more recent ads. The Palmolive soap company s advertisements from the 1900s exemplify the issue of sexism that took place in that time period. The ads primarily focus on the youth and beauty of women and how it appeals to men. The advertisement creators target the insecurities of women and threaten the achievement of being loved by a man. • 16. The Promotion Of Pupil Voice The promotion of pupil voice is a complex task which demands the commitment of the entire school community. Critically discuss the rationale for the development of pupil voice throughout all aspects of school life and consider how teachers and senior managers can facilitate pupils in forming and voicing opinions while also ensuring the equality of opportunity for all. The term pupil voice refers to ways of listening to the views of pupils and/or involving them in decision making. (Department for Education, 2014, p.1) The term and practice of Pupil Voice has featured within the UK since the early 1990 s, when Professor Jean Rudduck pioneered the concept with numerous ground breaking research projects throughout the UK. These series of research projects investigated and presented how pupil voice strategies could be employed within the classroom and the wider school context to enhance teaching, learning and the general experience of school for pupils. Since this early research around this concept, the term and practice has considerably grown into a very current topic within education today and is a concept which every enterprising school should be aspiring to adapt within their day to day running of their school. Many schools choose to promote the concept of pupil voice through the form of student councils. At the outbreak of war, Australian enlistment numbers were high due to the fascination of war and devotion to England, then fell due to the casualties. Australia s relationship with Britain during World War One is a large reason as to why there was a rush for young men to join the Australian Imperial Force. Many of the Australians in 1914 were of close British decent, they felt it was a duty and responsibility of theirs to help fight alongside Britain as not many people acknowledged Australia as a individual political entity. Animal Captivity Dilemma The Dilemma of Animal Captivity Animal captivity is an extremely important, and often overlooked problem that we, as human beings, have placed on nature and the animals that live in the endangered environment. There are groups of people worldwide who are extremely against animal captivity because of the drastic and permanent effects it leaves on the animals. These ideas of hatred against animal captivity are expressed in small ways such as posting a picture on Instagram that represents animal cruelty in captivity. Another way these ideas can be expressed is through large representations such as movies. Films such as Jurassic World and Blackfish are prime examples of this. Both of these films are representing the severe repercussions that can come from keeping large, dangerous animals in captivity. Though Jurassic World is a fictional movie, it is able to send the message that having animals that are dangerous in captivity is something that is very dangerous. Blackfish offers a real and terrifying glimpse into what happens to the mindset of animals who are put into captivity and the threat that those animals pose to not only other animals in captivity but also the humans who are in charge of looking after these animals. • 25. Energy Detection Based Spectrum Sensing Method In energy detector, the received signal is first filtered with a band pass filter in bandwidth to normalize the noise variance and to limit the noise power. The output signal is then squared and integrated as follows: for each in phase or quadrature component, a number of samples over a time interval are squared and summed. The conventional energy detection method assumes that the primary user signal is either absent or present and the performance degrades when the primary user is absent and then suddenly appears during the sensing time. An adaptive method to improve the performance of Energy detection based spectrum sensing method is proposed .In this proposal, a side detector is used which continuously monitor the spectrum so as to improve the probability of detection. The Primary user uses a QPSK signal with a 200 kHz band pass bandwidth (BW). The sampling frequency is 8 times the signal BW. A 1024 point FFT is used to calculate the received signal energy. Simulation results showed that when primary users appear during the sensing time, the conventional energy detector has lower probability of detection as compared to the proposed detector. The performance of energy detector is characterized by Receiver Operating curves usually. In July this year, scientists of the United Kingdom began to publicly exploit a loophole in the Government s ruling of the rejection of spare part cloning research. The loophole allows the researchers to continue with experiments by importing stem cells from cloned embryos which have been created and destroyed in another country. There is a rather surprising amount of medical benefits arising from therapeutic cloning research which have to be weighed before we assess where the debate is currently at. Doctors lay well founded expectations that by being able to study the multiple embryos developed through cloning, the causes of disastrous spontaneous abortions can be determined and much human loss can be averted. A greatly viable application lies in the field of clinical contraceptives. Leading contraceptive specialists perceive that if they can determine the manner in which an embryo knows where to implant itself, a contraceptive can be developed which will prevent embryos from implanting in the uterine wall. An additionally important branch of therapeutic cloning research is embryonic stem cell development. Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that can quot;evolve into almost any type of cell quot; (Lord 28) within the human body. Most penetration tests would go through an information gathering state in which they look for as many different possible vulnerable targets, and they may also capture the network traffic and investigate that as well. One example of an attack could be infiltrating the file server and uploading a payload to that server. If an attacker can find their way to accessing the file server, depending on what is kept on it, they could also have access to secure files and any other sensitive information kept on it, possibly any of the configuration files to that file server holding hashes for user passwords. Attackers may also look for any vulnerable programs on network computers for more ways into the system. Depending on how much effort a hacker wants to go through there is an endless amount of areas that they can check for vulnerabilities. Anything from scanning port numbers to bypassing the firewall without being detected, networks can be well secured but not to a point of being 100% safe from any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Mahatma Gandhi Join Us and the World Will be as One You must be the change you wish to see in the world, said Indian civil rights leader Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi, along with Mother Jones and Melba Pattillo Beals wanted equality. Gandhi s mission was to cease color prejudice, Mother Jones s mission was to achieve child labor rights and Melba s mission was to make integration possible. These three individuals fought courageously for equal human rights because they wanted to see a difference in the world. Gandhi was a pacifist whose mission in life was to change racial inequality because he believed it was wrong for anyone to be treated differently by their race or gender. For example, Gandhi bought a first class ticket on a train and was asked to be removed from the first class section. Gandhi refused to move to the back and was eventually thrown off. On that same night, he devoted to himself that he would be fighting the deep disease of color prejudice ( Mahatma Gandhi ). During this time when Britain ruled over India, non white people were discriminated. The reason Gandhi was casted out was because he was an Indian. Instead of using violence to fight colored prejudice, Gandhi developed his philosophy of Satyagraha , or resistance through non violent civil disobedience ( Satyagraha ). For instance, Britain passed an act which not only prohibited Indians from collecting or selling salt...but imposed a heavy tax that hit the country s poorest particularly hard... ( Mahatma Gandhi ). During this course I worked on acquiring basic counseling and communication skills, have an awareness of multicultural differences, awareness of professional identity and have a basic understanding of the dynamics in psychotherapy. Each week I was asked to hold counseling sessions with my peers and other week we taped our counseling session for review and transcription. During these tapings I was asked to demonstrate communication and counseling skills learned in this course. I was also expected to transcribe five minutes of taping as well as submit a reflection paper with my transcription and tape. In this paper, I will discuss some of the things I learned during this counseling and communications class. My experience coming into this class, some of the skills I learned, and a few of the things I found helpful. Experience Coming into this counseling course I had little practice in the counseling role with adults. I was nervous and uncomfortable coming into this class. Knowing that I was to be analyzed and taped during counseling sessions was the source of my nervousness and discomfort. My counseling skills were minimal and I was conscious of the fact that I was a complete novice in the counseling role. I needed to learn basic therapeutic factors (Young, 2013) and gain practice in order to feel comfortable in my counseling skills with adults. Furthermore, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Next, physiological disorders can occur as seen with enlarged prostate in men or shortening of the urethra in women (Jaipaul, 2017). Anticipating the above changes appropriately will aid in understanding what leads to urinary retention in older adults, the resulting need of catheterizations, and the CAUTIs that can follow. Having a foundation to build on, it would be beneficial to explore what nurses can do prevent urinary tract infections in patients who require catheterization. Current Nursing Care The first step nurses can take to decrease the incidents of CAUTIs in older adults is avoiding unnecessary use of catheters altogether. Initially, this begins with nurses knowing both appropriate and inappropriate situations in which a catheter should be utilized. According to (Gould et al., 2017), an appropriate situation is one where a patient has acute urinary retention or bladder obstruction, whereas an inappropriate situation is one where a catheter is being used a means of obtaining urine for culture when the patient can voluntarily void. Nurses can also use basic techniques like palpation, percussion, and inspection to effectively assess urinary retention, which is the main reason for catheterization as mentioned earlier. When techniques like this do not achieve desired results, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Lather Song Analysis Lather is song written by Grace Slick and performed by the psychedelic rock band Jefferson Airplane. Its unusual theme and peculiar, folky sound are its most notable features. At a glance, the song is about a man called Lather who is turning thirty, although he refuses to mature from his simple minded and young at heart ways. Grace Slick revealed that the song was mean to poke fun at the thirtieth birthday of the drummer of the band, Spender Dryden, who was the oldest member but most child like in personality. Whether the meaning of the song is meant to be casual and comical, or an uncommon perspective on a naïve man refusing to mature, it is still a very creative and somewhat bittersweet piece. Slick says that Lather was thirty years old today, they took away all of his toys. The toys that she is referring to could be either literal or figurative given Lather s childish, and unsophisticated nature. Grace says that lather prefers to draw pictures of mountains that look like bumps and lie about nude in the sand which is unusual, but striking imagery for the audience to imagine this unsophisticated man child who enjoys thrashing the air with his hands Slick also refers to Lather as baby wide and so nameless, that he hardly knows which game to play, which words to say, which further displays his innocence and foolishness. ... When we listen to the news and hear about these animals being starved, beaten, and treated poorly our hearts drop and we get a lump in our throat holding back the tears. We see these animals suffer, we see the pain in their eyes begging for our help, we want to put an end to this but we fail to see the bigger picture. Animal cruelty is a more severe and extreme than we think it is. Animal cruelty just is not owners beating their pets. Animal cruelty is animal testing. Scientist performs experiments on these animals that have no voice, no control, no way to stop what is happening to them. These animals are helpless, innocent creatures that have no idea why this is happening to them. These animals are enduring pain they are being deformed, having body parts mutilated, and many are killed. There are many organizations today such as PETA fighting to improve animal welfare but cruelty still continues. Animal testing needs to be completely banned or modified so the animals do not suffer. Scientific experiments on animals are cruel and unethical. These tests done on animals do not yield positive results that are beneficial to humans.
